Michael Dawson To Arsenal??

August 8, 2010

Even with the collective relief of the Arsenal community that ‘Cescgate’ is put to bed for another transfer window, the nightmares of defensive performances of last season have not faded. The need for quality defensive reinforcements should still be a priority for Arsene Wenger.  The Arsenal manager has more scouts working for him than what Michael Jackson had lawyers. They are based all over the world and watched hundreds of players in dozens of divisions so I dont believe for one minute we can’t find anyone who fits the bill of what we need. The urgent acquisition of a commanding goalkeeper and a commanding centre half is staring the entire fan base in the face, with Wenger going on record as saying he doesn’t know his number one and admitting we were looking thin at the back.. Although the start of the season is almost here and the excitement is unbearable, there are questions still to be answered by Wenger in building a squad capable of not just finishing in the top four, but strongly challenging for trophies on all fronts.

Wenger said we were able to reject Barca’s advances because we are in a strong position financially. Well if we are so strong then lets prove it further by adding more depth to the team..

Personally I would love to see a top player brought in for both positions.

It’s been obvious for a while that Joe Hart and Shay Given can’t both be number one next season and neither will be happy to be on the bench. Here lies a perfect opportunity for Wenger to pounce and I’m praying that Wenger’s delay in fixing our ‘keeping worries is a result of Man City’s delay in announcing their number one for next season. Hart has told his bosses if he’s not top dog, he’s going..So watch this space.. I’d have him as our top dog any day..

However, it is highly unlikely Wenger will splash the cash on both, and a CB will be his priority.

The majority of Arsenal fans want to see a big, strong, dominant CB who just likes to defend..Names such as Shawcross, Cahill, Hangelaand and Mertezacker have been thrown into the mix but one name that I haven’t heard is Michael Dawson..

I know he plays for the Sp*ds, but I don’t think there’s any Gooner who wouldn’t agree that the Dawson/Tommy CB combo would be a worldbeater..This lad has everything we are looking for at the back. He’s got years of PL experience under his belt and he’s quickly becoming one of England’s top CB’s. Woodgate and King are good but they are crocks. Dawson is the stalwart of the Sp*rs defence and in my opinion, with Rio Ferdinand’s career practically over, Dawson is top of the list to replace him in the England first eleven..

I know this may raise a few eyebrows, but he does tick all the boxes and I have no doubts that if Dawson knew a team like Arsenal were interested in him he would listen. Arsenal are a massive club, much bigger than Sp*rs and they will be financially crippled in a few seasons anyway after Old StickyFingers has finished with them. So he might as well get out now while he can.. Wenger should offer £15mil and say take it or we’ll come back in a year when Fagin is paying his debt to society and Sp*rs are on their arse and we’ll get him for half that amount

Imagine the look on the Sp*ds fans faces if this deal happened. They spend all summer laughing at us over Cesc and then two minutes after Cesc declares he’s staying, we go steal their best CB.

The signing would be a huge confidence boost to the club and fans as a whole..

Sp*rs now think they are a top 4 club..Stealing Dawson would strengthen us, weaken them and put them back in their place..Watching them rejoice in the glory of finishing 4th last year gave me de ja vu of Pompey all over again and Dawson is the only player I would say is good enough for our team. So lets get him now before the firesale begins..

Remember what happened the last time we took their best defender?? I know they do…

Joe Hart and Michael Dawson are the missing pieces of the jigsaw and Wenger’s got more than enough money and time to get them..

Wenger Announces Minimal Signings and Spurs Qualify for CL..

May 6, 2010

After another season that has seen us fail and collapse miserably, Arsenal fans now find their nightmare continues..

Last night we witness the Swamp Dwellers celebrating like they had won a trophy.. Quite pathetic really, but given the quality (or lack of) I guess it’s quite an achievement for them. Its going to be fun watching them crash and burn in the preliminary rounds.

More to the point and what makes it more worrying, is that it shows they are bridging the gap on us. We haven’t improved at all from last year. We’ve lost more games, conceded more goals, been smashed by every big team we’ve faced and have the same points (albeit with one game left) and now the Spuds are right up our backsides. Not only this but we find ourselves in a frightful situation where if we don’t pull our fingers out on Sunday we could lose 3rd place to them.. A month ago people would have laughed at the idea but such is our ‘mental strength’ over the past few games, this is now becoming more and more a reality..They are on a roll and we are in freefall so we can’t rule it out..

To add insult to injury and totally rubbing salt into the wounds. Arsene Wenger has spoken out over the signings he will be making.. According to Arsenal.com, Wenger has said all the words we feared..

“I think we have been in the race this year with the team we had. We will be stronger next year just with the internal improvement and with the experience these players will have now. The additions will be minimal but if there are some they have to be really top class.”

Now we all know Wenger likes to blow smoke up everyone’s behinds, but there’s a certain de ja vu about all this..Only a few weeks ago (around season ticket renewal time) Wenger was declaring the financial restraints had been lifted and we could buy the players we need..Now hes using the words “experience”,  “stronger”, “internal improvement” and “minimal signings” all in the same sentence…

After 5 years of the same script we all know whats coming next.. A freebie signing, a couple of 12 year olds and then the words “we couldn’t find anyone” and the window closes…

If Wenger thinks certain players in this team really have improved and we need minimal signings in the summer im afraid to say he’s losing the plot.

Like I say though lets hope it’s all a smokescreen because we really do need fresh faces this summer..We all know Chamakaka is coming, but he’s free so he doesn’t count..The fact he’s free also makes it possible for us to use the money Wenger says we have to sign another player or 5 in key areas, especially a  goalkeeper, which is most certainly a priority..

Its not looking too promising though is it??

The Devil or the Deep Blue Sea?

May 5, 2010

Afternoon Roadsters.

What is the result that the Arsenal faithful wants to see this evening?

Would you rather see Man City win so they can get Champions League football and with their finances go on and sign the some of the best players in the world and fast track themselves into one of the strongest teams  or would you like to see ‘arry’s Spuds get fourth.

Morally I suppose it should be the Spuds at least they haven’t used outside investment to buy their way up the League, the somehow show a profit in their trading, but they are not holier than thou, the way they stole “One Day” Ramos from Sevilla and sacked Jol before a game without even telling the guy.

But  they may just be one season wonders like Everton in the Champions League and will disappear back down to where they came from.

Man City they are a different entity, they will carry on building and will sack and recruit until they are successful, they have already shown how ruthless they can be in the way they sacked Hughes, there is already talk of them unloading Tevez, Bridge and our old favourite Slaggybayor.

Who will I be supporting ??

😉

He’s back…..

April 9, 2010

The news we have all been waiting to hear has finally broken, Robin van Persie is fit, healthy and raring to go. What a game to welcome him back to, a tasty little away fixture at our local rivals.

Don’t suppose for one minute he will start, but just imagine what a lift it will be to the side seeing him sat on the bench ready to come on and grab the winner and keep our league chances alive. Yes, the perfect scenario but to be honest I won’t care who scores our winner, as long as its scored.

Tottingscum have a cup match at the weekend, I hope it is a hard-fought one, one they lose and on the way get absolutely cream crackered and battered. Confidence rock bottom and ready for the arrival of the best team in London.

Two other players are close to a return, Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou which is more good news, I know we only have five games left but having been out for so long both should be eager to get their Arsenal shirts back on and help see us over the line in this very tight run in.

Matt Le Tissier has been talking up Theo Walcott again saying he should definitely go to the World Cup, funny really as this comes after that jerk Richards Keys made a massive gaff and slated the same player during our Champions League game while the microphone was left on!! He should be sacked in my opinion, commentators should keep their traps shut!!

Little bit of news about the ladies, having thumped the Chavs 4-0 on Monday to secure their place in the FA Cup Final, they got themselves up into second place in the league after beating Milwall last night 3-1 away from home. That puts them four points off the league leaders Leeds but with two games in hand. Looks very much like they will be winning the league again…

Lets hope the first team can make it a double celebration..

Have a great day all, I’m off for the weekend to dip my toes in the sea, catch you all on Monday…

Its Raining Men…

October 31, 2009

Well it will have to if the big city of London has had the rainfall we have had here in Berkshire!!

The Daily Telegraph, well the Belfast version reports Cesc has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barca! Worried for a second, but then I saw the word ‘Adeybayor’ in the same sentence – you know him, the one who feels he has the right to an opinion about us! Well I soon dismissed it from my mind! I wish he would just mind his own……!!

There are a couple of other snippets around, but today is about the biggest game yet in our season, we HAVE to beat Spurs today otherwise my week and yours will be just dreadful, in fact until we were able to get revenge I would feel dreadful. But it’s not going to happen, we are going to win!

Good old ‘Arry has added his pennies worth to the rubbish that Robbie Keane has spouted this week.
He reckons, not that his opinion is worth anything, that we won’t win the premiership with a team of kids – Arry, this is not a CC game, the kids won’t be on the park! You will see Cesc, Arshavin, Rosicky, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Van Persie, Eduardo, Song and a few others !

Where are the kids in there ‘Arry? Go and worry about your own team, but thanks for giving our side an extra bit of fuel to fire them up for today’s game, just what the doctored ordered!

Arsene says he has already chosen his goal keeper – “I’ve decided who will start but I won’t tell you,” he said at Friday’s press conference.
The manager also confessed that while Mannone has got the nod recently, Almunia has given him a persistent dilemma.

“I’m always tempted to start with Almunia,” said the Frenchman. “But he was sick for a long time and it takes some time to come back. That says to me that it will be Mannone 😉

The back five kind of picks itself, I don’t think he will play Eboue because of his last game against the spuds and I don’t think he will ‘risk’ Gibbs at left back – I would though personally as Lennon is out.

Mannone
Sagna Gallas TV Clichy

On to the midfield – as long as the names Eboue and Diaby are not in there, I will be happy. We have so much talent available, start playing them instead of persisting with the two mentioned, please Arsene!!

If he plays 4-3-3 – I hope he plays

Cesc Song Rosicky/Merida

And then the front three

Van Persie Eduardo Arshavin

Or front two in a 4-4-2

Nasri Cesc Song Rosicky/Merida

Van Persie Arshavin

The Spuds are going to play Bentley, he will up for this in a big way, just because it’s us, and because he will soon be sold and will be putting himself on the market for a big club – maybe Bolton or Blackburn, I’m sure fat Sam would have you David! Song needs to put him in his place early!

Arshavin needs to show a bit more interest, if he doesn’t will we have a strong bench and I hope he is substituted early enough for the oncoming player to have a chance to get involved. In fact the same goes for any of our team today.
It’s a Derby and a big one, we fans are ready for this, let’s hope the players are! TV and Gallas need to be on fine form and keep Crouch at bay, he is their big threat in the air but if we as a team stop him being provided with the ball we will win.
If Robbie Keane gets in the penalty area, no dodgy tackles please and no sneezing, he will go down for a penalty at the slightest touch or breeze he feels 😉

So that’s it, just over five hours to go until kick off, it’s live on Sky Sports so that is good news for those of us who can’t go to the game, those who are lucky enough, I hope it’s a fantastic game of football with many a goal scored by us.

I hope we get to see Gomes picking the ball out of his net many many times.

In my heart I am going for a win, maybe even a convincing win too.

But my head tells me….. It will abandoned due to the dreadful weather..

I reckon we will see a few tricks for them to deal with, but a few treats for us fans…. 😛

Have a great day Roadsters, let’s hope today gives us three very big points..
