Arsene’s A*se is Well and Truly Bitten.

September 26, 2010

I thought it was about time I awoke from my blog slumber and made an effort to put my hands on a keyboard, to be honest I felt like doing it last Wednesday after we beat the Marsh Landers, but although it was nice to beat the Spuds, the stopping of the gobbing off and text messages was more akin to scraping something unpleasant off the bottom of my shoe, they are just an unnecessary irritation. Not a reason for celebration.

We have spent five years blooding youngsters in the Mickey Mouse cup and making excuses when we are knocked out, then we field a half decent side to win a game and we act like we have done another double..

Pathetic, That’s double standards the Spuddies are not our rivals anymore, Real Madrid, Juve, Barca etc they are. The Emirates Cup is just as important as the Carling at least we play decent teams in that pre season competition, well except Rangers of course.

To top it off and to prove Arsene right in the way that he used to rest the first team in the MM Cup, on Tuesday we fielded a strong team considering our injury problems culminating in resting key players yesterday who are vital to the team, especially while Cesc is out, so we went on to lose our next Premiership game.

What happened yesterday is so sickening, where does it go so wrong?
The pundits on Talk Sh**e on the radio were talking of Arsenal and Chelsea going through the season unbeaten (again in our case), Almunia was a reformed character, and the Squillaci and Kosceilny are the greatest CB’s since sliced bread (Hovis and Kingsmill the famous double winning pairing), well at least we don’t have to wait for the Chavs to knock us off our pedestal.
Yesterday we just got beat, no humiliated at home by a team whose town has a Building Society more famous than their football club.

It always goes wrong when Diaby plays, does anyone know the players who started in the games we lost last year? I am sure he was on the team sheet for most of them, coincidence.. mmm

It goes wrong when Eboue plays at anything other than right back.

If Cesc plays we can afford to drop the creative players and the better passers of the ball. When he is out we need Rosicky, Wilshere and dare I say it “gulp” Denilson in the starting line up.

Song, Diaby and Eboue don’t work… any one of them in midfield with the others is just bearable but any two and we stifle Arshavin and Nasri of any creative linking up.

We normally wait for Chelsea or the Man U games for Arsene to try out that sort of line up. But yesterday the mighty WBA beat us, and beat us fair and bloody square.

I have only watched the game on a mosaic quality stream and I will try to re-watch the game before I do some player ratings.

I watched some of the game again on Sky before I fell asleep (I knew the world of pop concerts at my age would catch up with me), but I saw exactly what was happening, no creativity only from Nasri, this caused Sagna to be our main attacking option, this is where we need a DM to sit to allow the CH’s to cover the full backs when thay are upfield. But Song was in the WBA penalty area.
Basically we were pulled out of shape.

Almunia. 4 .. Had his worse game in an Arsenal shirt and he saved a penalty. We all know he has to go, Arsene never helped his confidence in the summer and the fans are certainly not helping him now, but we need to back him at least until the transfer window opens in January or it could be season over.

Sagna. 7.. I thought he played well, he was the main attacking force and never got anyone to link with or cover his defensive duties.

Squllaci. 6. The best of the centre halves I think he will partner Tommy when he is back.

Kosceilny.. 5.. He was at fault for the chance that lead to the penalty decision, he has a touch of the Sendersarous about him, he gets too close and can be turned when he charges in.

Clichy. 6.5.. 100% effort cannot always turn a game, he needs to link up better with the midfield.

Song.. 6.. Why he is playing so far up the pitch? I really don’t understand, Arsene needs to have a word and get him back in his best position.

Eboue. 5. He spends the whole game running a diagonal from the half way line to the edge of the “D” not allowing the creative midfielder space or helping Sagna out defensively… back to the bench please.

Diaby 4.5.. No effort, no creativity, lapsidazical performance,

Nasri. 8.. The only player worthy to play in the red and white yesterday, would have got an extra point if we were a winning side.

Chamakh..6.5.. Things weren’t happening on the ground for him and he never got the perfect cross to head a goal.

Arshavin.. 6.5. It is easy to mark him down when we losebecause he looks lazy and uncaring, yet when we win we love his arrogance, hit the post eary on that could have changed the games outcome.

Subs .

Rosicky.. 6
.. I am still waiting for the old Thomas to come back to his true form that should make him one of the first choices on the team sheet, he had one of the best shots in the Premiership back in those days, fingers crossed with a bit of confidence after one screams in he will be back.

Wilshere. 7
.. We shouldn’t be relying on Jack as much as we do, if Cesc isn’t playing he is our midfield general. I really hope we can keep him happy and his head doesn’t get turned by the bigger wage packet boys.

Vela..4.5. Too lightweight, he always manages to look good for the cameo rolls when is comes on in a winning side, but start him or expect him to change a game .. nil points..

This time last season we went through the same thing, with defeats to the two Manchesters, this year it feels much worse, drawing to Sunderland and losing at home..
Still onwards and upwards, lets hope the Red Sox lose today and damage is limited.

Arsenal Win End of Season Pre-Season Friendly.. (yawn).

May 10, 2010

Arsenal XI   4-0  Fulham XI..

Well to be fair there was a lot more depending on this game than a friendly, but anyone looking in from the outside would not believe that judging by the lack of effort and commitment from both teams.
Fulham rested players and to be honest I don’t know there first team apart from Hangerland and Zamora, Oh and Duff and Murphy, the team that they put out lacked commitment and was a insult to the Fulham support that turned out.
These guys pay for a ticket by giving their employers five hours of there life just to walk through the turnstiles yet they couldn’t even be bothered to put a tackle in.

This was typical Arsenal, glossing over all that is wrong with the team, we can roll over average teams all day long, yet when we come up against any team who dare close us down and match us for skill we are shown up.

We started out with a Keystone Kop of a goal by AA, he chipped the ball over the Fulham keeper and instead of over passing the ball into the net turned selfish and decided to score himself .. So Arsenal always want one more pass then Andrey is too selfish.. make your mind up you commentators.

The next goal had a bit of luck too. van Persie managed to get in a shot that was too close to the Fulham keeper Schwartzer so he got his hand on it and deflected it onto the bar, the rebound found Robin’s head and get in!

Theo was running around like the headless chuck, and showed he perhaps has potential, yet it all seems a bit false.
At one stage he did create a great chance for RvP yet again though Robin is not clinical enough and allows the keeper to save twice.

Just before HT we managed to get a OG off Baird, this never happens to us in important games, Is it fate or karma? Who knows but we never get the rub of the green when anything depends on it.

We backed off the throttle a bit second half, which is understandable and we got a fourth goal from an exquisite chip from the sub Vela, another mystery of an Arsenal fans life.. Good enough for Mexico, yet only 2 starts in a season for us..

To be honest, we couldn’t gain anything from our performance yesterday as Fulham just went through the motions of a game, yet if we had of played a team of northern cloggers or a top 8 team we wouldn’t have had such a convincing result. It may of been better if we lost at least the fans could have shown their unhappyness and Arsene may  have to act upon it.
We had a scare this year with the Spuds getting a tad too close and this need to be amended in the close season.

St Totts day was far too late by Arsene’s very high standards sort it please..

Fabianski.. 4   Hold your hand up who wanted him as Arsenal No 1!!

Sagna . 7.. No defending to do really and his attacking is average.

Campbell, 8 He must be a contender for our player of the season.. what does that say when a 35 year old not match fit player can even come close.

Silvestre.. 6 .. I just hope.. thanks goodbye.

Clichy.. 7.. Good not great. But not a game for defending.

Diaby.. 5  I am sure I saw him once or twice, he is so frustrating because you know he is capable of doing it.

Nasri.. 7  Just okay, needs a few more team players around him.

Enid Walcott 7.. Good and bad, Some times he looks great then does the most stupid errors, I would unload him and use him as bait in a deal for a better player.

Eboue. 5.. Sick of his diving and antics, I said it last year and I tried to like him. Name his best moment this season, I can’t..

Arshavin.. 7   He is class, I am unsure of his attitude, should he shut up or demand better from the Arsenal, is he selfish or a realist?

RvP… 7 . Showed he is a good player, scores goals but should have scored three times the amount he did. Oh and give some of the free kicks up unless you are bullying Nasri etc..

Djourou.. Great to see you back, you should sue the Sky commentator who likened you to Senderslug..

Lansbury… Didn’t see too much, you could tell he was from the Arsene’s acadamy..

A Poke in the Eye of the Tigers…..

March 14, 2010

Hull 1 Arsenal 2.. (Arsenal win on away goals).

It’s getting to the stage where we can scrap the team coach and hire a mini bus to take our fit players to away games. We are savaged with injuries, which as usual the media choose to forget.
A lot of  the pundits are knocking Bendtner, even after the infamous Porto “hat trick” and 6 goals in the last 5 starts and in his favoured position at last.
He, and watch my lips is not our main striker, he is behind RvP in the pecking order, that’s like knocking Michael Owen for Man U. or N.Gog for the Dippers, he is far, far better than them and his all round play and work rate is superb and he is improving every game.

Onto the game, we started as we usually do, passed a bit, misplaced passed a bit, then settled in and scored at the fifteen minute mark with a opportunity from our Russian secret weapon. He just runs at players and plays the percentages that a break will come his way and it did. 1-0..

Then as usual, the game starts to come easy, we create, we think we are in a training session and we piss ourselves laughing as yet another chance goes over the bar. But the reality is we are always one balls up from a equaliser. The balls up initially came from the linesman, although standing in line missed the Hesselinkson bloke beyond our back four.

So he had the head start on Sol and as Sol plays catch up he clatters into the back of the bloke with the long name, (clatters is by far too strong a word) . Should Sol see red? . No (a) because two wrongs don’t make a right (well a bit) and (b) the attacker has to be in a goal scoring position. How can you score a goal when the ball is two feet behind your head would be some feat)?

Anyway. Bullard penalty 1-1..

The game re-starts and soon becomes ill tempered and for some reason a handbags session breaks out on the half way line that involved Nikki getting tugged, poked in the face and whacked.. and he got a yellow for that along with the perpetrator. Boetang

Just before half time Boetang decides to tattoo Sagna’s knee with his studs and he walks with just two yellows, which in reality is better for us than a straight red as we don’t see any benefit from a three match ban.

HT, Hull down to ten men. We should piss this, but I still never felt good about it.

The main talking point for the 40 minutes of the second half was a tackle by Sol in which he won the ball, luckily the ref must have had regrets about his first half penalty decision and Sol just gave a free kick away, much to the disgust of the KC mob.

The crowd became boisterous, the tension started to build and we never looked like scoring. Eboue was replaced with Theo and we started to dominate as the game went on and our passing game wore Hull 10 men down, but with no real chances. but  Hull started to be forced back.

Out of the blue the fourth official stuck up a six minute of injury time on his board and that was the belief we needed to win the game, that must be an omen, we never get that sort of gift. Sure enough three minutes in Bendtner is the first to react from a ? Denilson? Shot and we score in +3 mins Phew!!..

At this point of writing I turned on MOTD and I expect a anti Arsenal reaction but, hold up,  Shearer and Hansen are backtracking and are saying similar to what I have already wrote “offside” “Not a red for Sol” “well timed tackle” I am stunned, perhaps the League is our destiny and they are giving in. The force is with us..

Almunia.. 7.. Hardly saw him, no Manuel moments whatsoever.

Sagna.. 7.. Perhaps we could have rested him yesterday and played Eboue at right back and we would have had more attacking options, he did okay..

Campbell..7.. He looked a little cumbersome and tired at times, I don’t understand why he should have been sent off, or the problem with his tackle. (apart from he is Arsenal)

Vermaelen 7.5.. Roma’s new centre half for next season had his usual good game, usual tenacity and desire to win.

Clichy. 7.. Back to normal, fast, and wants to win. He seems to have settled next to Vermaelen a lot better now.

Denilson.. 5 .. yep he was there.

(in fairness he made the  winner, after his shot was poorly saved by the Hull keeper)

Diaby 6.5.. Frustrating that he cannot show up every week, he should be running rings around this lot. But he never played badly.

Nasri.6.5.. He was trying his best, but he just ain’t Cesc..

Arshavin.. 7.25 Brilliant, Frustrating, Clinical, wasteful,  whatever the mix, bloody exciting, I love the fella.

Eboue.7. Okay performance, perhaps he was struggling after a midweek game in Europe more than most as he isn’t used to them.

Bendtner.. 8 My MOTM, never gave up, looks clumsy sometimes but manages to use the ball really well, First to react for the winner, cheers Nikki.

Subs.

Theo.7... Did really well, good crosses, just needs to know that the players running in are not mind readers..

Eduardo?  Difficult to give a mark to, as he wasn’t on for long, but showed well and needs a good run out next to Nikki, but can you leave the AA man out?

We will get these sort of games if we are to win the Premiership, it’s never plain sailing. But 3 points are 3 points.

The Dane did Great!

March 10, 2010

The media wasn’t convinced and readied themselves for a caning, the fans were a little apprehensive, there was no Cesc, we had never turned a first leg defeat around since General Custer lost at Little Big Horn, the pressure was building.

Oh dear what a let down for the Arsenal knockers, we cruised it. As I write this I am setting my alarm for 6 in the morning so I can listen to Brazil to eat some.

This was a performance that will put fear into other clubs around Europe, a performance that will make the fans and the players believe. It could pull us through to an amazing double.

The line up looked as good as Arsene could have got it, no Theo and no Denilson. Song was the anchor, Nasri, Diaby, Rosicky and Arshavin all had to be a little bit of Cesc and it worked, we were creative and solid and we got the early breakthrough from a break in which AA ran straight into the heart of the Porto defence, after a clash of a Porto defender and the goalkeeper the ball broke to Bendtner who got one of his outstretched legs on it to poke it away.

The script was set, you just knew a hat trick was on, on, on.

Goal two came from the same source, AA the provider, he twisted and rolled a ball across the six yard line for Nikki to poke in his second.

We were well on top but we needed an extra goal. The second was more like a half because of the away goal rule.

Porto made a HT change and from the off they looked much better, or we took our foot of the gas as usual, they started to create, the closest they came to a goal the MOTM Nasri cleared off the line from a corner.

We were under the cosh, but the pressure valve was released when Super Samir Nasri burst into the box with a run where you thought this just can’t end in a goal, it’s too good, but somehow it did and it will go into one of the best Arsenal goals of all time alongside DB10’s and that other bloke who took our money and run.

Soon after another Porto corner came in and we cleared to AA on the left and he showed the world why we paid so much for him (and the Spuds) he ran directly  into Poto’s half and passed to the only man who kept up with him, Eboue?? (who replaced Rosicky) Only for Emmanuel to drill home a left footed shot. The story was beginning to sound more like a fairy tale now.

Eboue’s confidence had now reached a higher level and as he burst into the box his leg was er caught and we had a penalty, there was always only going to be one taker, yep Super Nik. And after some delaying tactics by the ref it was buried into the bottom right corner out of the keepers reach.

5-0.. nice..

After the game the pundits made up of failed managers were chatting and Souness said “ I don’t know why Arsenal don’t get more penalties” I could see Big Tone starting to laugh, I could just see him rolling around on the floor crying and shouting “after what your mob did to Eduardo”

What a night and it is great to see some so-called experts chew on a bit of humble for at least a night. IF AC beat the Man Urinaters tonight it will be a great week in Europe.

Almunia. 7.5 Did what he had to do and did it well, I caught his pre match interview on Sky and have to agree with Big Tone, what a nice bloke. It’s no wonder Lehmann didn’t like him.

Sagna. 7 Strong in defence, not so offensive last night, but he never needed to be, the force was coming from the left.

Sol. 8. This man is going to prove Arsene and his madness right and the doubters wrong. He is so strong and gaining pace and fitness in every game before our very eyes. I can only hope that he talks to any player that feels they can do better than being at the Arsenal and sobs his heart out with the old ‘Our Tune’  jingle playing in the background.

Tommy Vermaelen. 8.5 Outstanding, he really is the real deal. Hangerland who? Kompany? Upson.. nah,

Clichy. 8. Needs drug testing after every game, he’s like Iggy Pop without the microphone.

Song.8 Great performance, He could have been needed as the main man, but Porto were disappointing so he could show some flair coming forwards as well as his defensive duties.

Diaby.8. He is starting to look the real deal at last, whether that is because of the inferior opposition or his improvement I am not so sure, but nice!

Nasri.9.5. A super performance from a player who is still developing (athough Theo has cornered the developing market) only one year older than Theo andplaying in a different country,

Rosicky 8. Put in a great shift for the team, He is going to be one of the main men in the run in.

Arshavin 8.5. Direct, the creator extraordinaire. Was it four assists?

Nikki Bendtner. 9.5. I’d much rather have Kevin Davies as our main striker, eh Durham.. lol.

Sub Eboue 8..  Scored a great goal, good and solid, squad depth is the answer to our title run in.

sub Theo.. 7 bit of a cameo apperance but you can tell his confidence was high.

Have a great day Roadsters and enjoy..

ONE AARON RAMMMMSEY!

February 28, 2010

The last weekend in Feb strike’s again!
When is this crap that Arsenal don’t like it up’em going to end?
That’s 3 times in five years that we have been the victims of similar incidents.
I think I speak for everyone when I say all our thoughts go out to our Rambo at least when we win the league he will get a medal. He has 7 starts and 11 subs.
On to the game.. The only surprise in the line up was the inclusion of Ramsey tho he did play very well v the makems.
So we started badly and then Song who didn’t put his brain in till half time saved a corner and put his clearance out for a throw on.

Fool!

Surely this must be the first thing you say to the team, don’t give away throws in your half v Stoke. The curse of the ACN strikes another player
So the shiner threw it in and for some reason we set up as if it was a not Delap throw in, no one on the back post, what would you know Song goes to sleep.
1-0 down, plenty of time left I thought. We started to get going a little but not a lot.
Clichy “The Hurricane” was quality.
‘Here comes the story of the hurricane….” – he just read play beautifully and won the ball of some potter, this lead to an attack but not much came from it.

We looked like we’re getting more control, as Stoke sat back, they made it hard for us by pressing and not giving us anything, the ref thought this was ok and there were quite a few “pressings” that were debatable.
Delap then thought he’d won a throw near the box and was just shining up the ball with that fucking towel of his when Clichy ran over ripped the towel and the ball out of his hand.
I hadn’t seen the ref give the throw the other way so I thought Clichy had had enough of the shiner and was gonna nut him and burn his towel too. thankfully he’s got less of a hot head than me and took the quick throw.
We were saying the script was written about how history repeats itself, but always brings a new twist.
It looked like one of those games where we’re gonna do everything pretty but still not score.
The team was pushing for the goal and pushing up the pitch. Sol was so solid and kept Fuller in check, there was some crunching tackles and no nonsense defending.
We looked a little slow and couldn’t really turn Stoke, the one time we did and Faye snuffed out a Bendtner chance, another chance fell to Cesc and he worked Sorensen from outside the box.
I was thinking, we just aren’t at the races today and then bang Cesc sends a beautiful ball in to the box (forget all those pretty triangles) Bendtner still had a lot to do with the header but he cushions it across the goal, into the top corner..

What a HEADER!

1-1 game on
Marmaduke duke, marmaduke duke

We got into it a little, Eboue made a nice run to the edge of the box, but was fouled Cesc took the freekick but into the wall.
Stoke then found themselves in our box and I thought we we are doing everything to keep them there, finally Sol stepped in and hoofed it away
Another Song moment.

HT 1-1

I missed the opening minutes of the first half I know I missed a penalty shout, but all I can tell you is it was a 50/50, sometimes you do sometime you don’t, it was ramsey who went down .
We started hot and really look like we could score at will, Ramsey especially he must of been wound up by Wenger.
Eboue was finding the most space with the ball, but running into cul de sacs and then falling over like Stevie-G, and not passing, he needs a run of games.

Then Eboue showed me why Wenger plays him in midfield “he can shoot”. This lead to Cesc having a pop shot from range too.

Anything you can do….

The Hurricane was picking up speed and turning in to a proper Katrina, I pity any fool on the opposite right flank for the rest of the season..

Song then got the softest yellow I’ve ever seen in me life, if anything Delap fouled him, so that’s his tenth yellow so he’ll miss Burnley and Hull. The good news is it means he’ll be fresh for Porto.
Then it happened, it is still a bit too sore to recall and you don’t need me to explain it,the faces of Cesc, Bendtner and TV were as white as ghosts.

I think most people would have turned colour if you had been that close You know Shawcross didn’t mean it and was horrified at what he did. Apparently Pulis said Shawcross’s mum came to pick him up from the ground..
Credit goes to Glenn Whelan he sat there and shouted at the bench and stayed with Rambo till the medics came and rushed him to hospital.
Really you have to blame the ref for not clamping down on loose tackles. It is strange that 2 years ago in the last game in Feb that Dudu’s injury happened.
Yet back then we dropped two goals and lost our five point lead and the title now this season we have cut the lead from five to three points.
(standing at the time of 1-1 five points)
And we’re gonna win the league.

They drew first blood, so on came THE ARSENAL, Rosicky on for Rambo it obviously it took a while for us to get going again and stoke got some joy down the left, a cross along six yard box was well left by TV.

Dudu then came on for Sami and he almost had instant impact, but he was in on his right and went with his left he missed wide.
Then what would you know a pen, Bendtner has a shot and blocked by Pughs hand and ref pointed to the spot. Maybe what I said about us getting a pen in every game untll then end of the season is coming true.
Cesc steps up, this guys got cojones! and not quite bang, but much like his last pen he placed it in the corner.

1-2
Capitán Fábregas

7 mins injury time came up on the board, I was hoping we could play nice triangles in our own half with lots of lovely percussion, but oh no we push for more.
Bendtner get tumbled over in the box, it would have been a soft penalty.
Then Rosicky takes a shot that works Sorensen, he palms it wide, Cesc is there to pick up the pieces, he uses his head as always, slides the ball across to TV and he can’t miss from there.

1-3
THERES ONLY ONE AARON RAMSEY……

That was for Rambo, you know it you could see it in TV’s face

The group huddle was telling. This no longer a 3 horse race for the title
It’s our Destiny

We’re gonna win the league,
And now you’re gonna believe us…

The Cream Beat the Black Cats and Claw Back Up the Table..

February 21, 2010

Arsenal 2-0  Sunderland

I suppose this match was always going to be an anti climax compared to the run of games that we have just had, but how important it could turn out to be.
Everton had already given us a helping hand and a win for us would put us just 2 points behind the Salford’s.
I kind of sort of knew how the game would pan out even before it started. The ingredients were all in place, we were at home, just had a midweek game away in Europe with only two days rest, an average team coming to town, injury crisis. Blah blah, belief, blah blah..

When the teams were announced it brightened things up a tad. Ramsey in for Diaby, Song back to replace the Crabman, Theo in for Rosicky and what turned out to be the most exciting change Eboue in for Sagna.

The first goal came from great work from EE, he put it on a plate for Nikki to tap in from 3 yards out.

We did our usual 66% possession and missed a hatful of chances, It was one of those games where it would be better if the opposition scored first or equalised, then we would have focused, but the longer the game went on there was always that niggling doubt in the back of our minds that Sunderland could sneak a goal back and when they got a free kick when normal time was nearly up, I thought we could blow it.

Instead a minute later, Fabregas just got to the line of the penalty box and got tripped, I would have swapped it for the shout Rosicky had in the week, but none the less we were given something that was as rare as hens, Fabbie stepped up to do the business. I watched his goal celebration, he doesn’t look like a man packing his bags to me..

Almunia… 7.. I know he isn’t everyones cup of tea, but thank the lord he is back.. Did quite well when needed.

Eboue.. 8.5.. If he could play like this every week he would be the number one right back choice. We either need a more energetic midfielder who could cover him going forward or Sagna will always get the nod in the bigger games.

Vermaelen.. 7.5.. An excellent performance even though he looked a little awkward at times on the right hand side.

Silvestre.. 6.. One of his best displays in an Arsenal shirt, I am sure I heard the commentator say we have offered him a new contract.. Not the best plan for an ambitious club..

Clichy.. 7.. He went back to basics, he is a defender foremost and yesterday he defended, and quite well

Song.. 7.5.. He had another good game, he is setting high standards now and consistent. Would you swap him for Cana?

Fabregas.. 8.. Really he was the best player on the park, but for him a average performance, I don’t see how he managed to find his way into the refs book.

Ramsey.. 6.5.. He does some great stuff, yet his work can be undone with his over elaborate keeping of the ball in dangerous area’s.. He must wear different boots when he plays for Wales, he cannot hit the target for us.

Nasri.. 7.5.. A very tidy, but Hleb like performance.. End product please.

Walcott ..6.. Oh Theo, if only you could play the final ball, how many final passes did you cock up?

Bendtner.. 7.. When he stood in the wall defending the 89th minute free kick you could see he is clearly 6”-7” taller than either Vermaelen or Song, he just needs commitment and confidence he could be a monster in the air and with good feet for a big guy..

The Subs were not on for long so no marks given.

All in all a good days work, considering the midweek European hangover…

So all you gloom merchants plaster up you wrists and join us for a title run in and we are involved.. This is what supporting is all about, it doesn’t ever get much better than this. Enjoy the ride.

Individual errors prove costly..again!!!

February 18, 2010

I’m not normally one to hide behind excuses when the lads get beat. To be honest I find them all incredibly boring. Every year we hear the same things such as our injuries hampered us, we’ve got no money, the media are against us and the referees are anti arsenal. After so long I lose interest in debating with these people because that’s what footballs about. You are going to get injuries but you have to build a squad to be able to cope with them. You may have no money but you have to work with the resources you have. The media have always been the same and will say anything to sell a story or attract ratings, only the very feeble minded will listen to washouts like Redknapp, Hansen and co (who themselves were never good enough to make managers) and believe everything they say. Then of corse you’ll always get the odd ref who acts like a total spaz. No matter what it may be, excuses are for losers. It’s a way of hiding behind your deficiencies and pointing the finger at someone else always appears to be the best option, but it doesn’t help. Excuses just lead to that smug attitude and complacency and it doesn’t solve the problems at hand. I find a bit of constructive criticism better. Sod the excuses. Like I said it’s for losers and quitters. Winners tackle the problem head on and evaluate where THEY went wrong and pull all the stops to fix it.

I could adopt the latter attitude to last nights game but i wont. Why?? Because it’s probably one of the biggest acts of football corruption I’ve ever witnessed in recent times. Quite simply we were robbed. This is not an excuse, it’s a fact..

Ok. I’ll admit that some of our players didn’t turn up last night but neither did the ref. We still controlled large parts of the game and we deserved to take at least a draw..

I found the first half very entertaining. Both sides going after each other from the off with Big Sol rolling back the years with some super tackles and a nice little goal..

Fabianski’s mistake to concede an early opener for the home side was very school boy and the second goal we conceded was just a comical farce, can’t really totally put blame on him for that. All I’ll say is next time that happens kick it. Don’t take the risk, if in doubt give it a clout.

What is it about our lads and own goals recently?? Why don’t we have a keeper who has safe hands and not butterfingers?? Maybe it’s a problem for Wenger to address in the summer, but for now we are stuck with what we’ve got. There’s an old saying in football that a good keeper will win you matches. Our keepers gift the opposition goals at ease at the minute and its very concerning. How can we expect to win medals when our top 2 choice keepers look barely capable of tying their own shoelaces?? These individual errors need to be cut out, or at least cut down. Every player makes mistakes but our players are making massive ones in crucial games and they are all leading to goals. It’s got to be said it’s not a sign of a team challenging for silverware..

I know this is a bit different from a match report, but seeing as though the ref thought everyone was there to watch him I’d really like to concentrate on his contribution and give him a rating. Wouldn’t want to steal the limelight from the players now would we???

1..Cesc was getting hammered left right and centre. It was obvious to most neutrals that after a bright start by Porto, they had become tired from matching us blow for blow by the end of the first half, so proceeded to what can only be called assault our star man. Constant foul after foul, the majority from behind and from one man in particular, Fernando. I counted at least 5 times he hacked down Cesc so why did the ref only give him a yellow in the last ten minutes when Diaby got carded for his first clumsy tackle in the first half???

2..How the hell did the ref not see the foul on Rosicky in the box? Every man and his dog saw it was a pen. You didn’t need a replay to make sure it was it was stone wall. Stevie wonder would have seen it but I guess after ‘Eduardogate’ we are never going to get another penalty again..

3..Within 30 seconds of the penalty that was, that wasn’t, but really was and would have been if it was any other team but Arsenal, Porto hit a long ball that brushed of Big Sol’s toenail and Fabianski picked up. Now even on the replay you couldn’t really make out if it had even hit Sol, nevermind him intentionally passing it back, because thats what I thought a pass back was – intentionally passing it back to your keeper. So how the hell the ref could see it touched Sol from 30 yards behind the play and he couldn’t see the Rosicky penalty I’ll never know. Not ending matters there, the ref demanded the ball off Fabianski and gave it to the cheating Porto player and before anyone knew it the ball was in the net. The ref wasn’t even looking at the play, how can he allow it if he aint looking? Not only that but he was interfering with play by blocking Sol and it was supposed to be an indirect freekick. You might as well have given them a fucking penalty into an open net you prick…

Martin Hannson..10..Well done son, wonderful display. Man of the match and as Rico would say- you were the ‘knob of the night’ and you ruined what started off being a decent spectacle of football, you corrupt tosser.

Anyway I think we’ll still win this tie. We’ve got a good record against Porto at home and we’ve got that crucial away goal. With the return of a few walking wounded and with the absence of Porto’s star play (Hannson) we should knock 3 or 4 past them with ease…

Oh and by the way. What did anyone think of Cesc’s comments after the match?? Frustrated or frustrated with how things are going at Arsenal???
