A Message To Arsene Wenger.

I am very confident [we’ll do better than last season],” he said. “We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money.
“We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off.

I don’t want to sound like I’m interfering Mr Wenger, but after studying your recent comments it seems as though you are seriously thinking about not signing anyone else to strengthen our squad this window.

If so, I seriously recommend you think twice about this. You are treading a very thin line and your once large numbers of loyal followers are dwindling year by year. After all the ‘noise’ YOU made about strengthening the squad for the up coming season I expect YOU to stand by your word and do your job. If not expect those numbers to drop even lower..

Do you really think the fans have forgotten last years dreadful performances by the same players that give dreadful performances every season. Do you really think the fans have forgotten the dreadful form of games where we won 2 in 10?? Do you really think the fans are going to accept another year of lies and complete poppycock that you seem to become so used to spinning us???

The bottom line is, you keep taking our money, silly money at that and you are not doing anything with it.. Why aren’t the profits you are so proud of making every season being put back into the team??.. I for one don’t class giving average players new contracts for doing crap as putting the fans money back into the team..If anything its wasting it..

If I fork out for a £300 quid Paul Smith jacket, I don’t want to get it home – only to wear it once and find all the buttons have fallen off and all the stitching has come loose. I don’t want to take it back to the store, only to be told by the store manager that I can’t have my money back, or indeed a better quality jacket. I don’t want to be fed the crap that even though the jacket has its flaws, it is a young jacket with great potential and if i invest another £300 on it we will work hard with the jacket and take pride when it fixes itself…

I want value for my money..

It’s the same in any field of business and if you want to treat the fans like customers instead of family then expect a lot of back lash..

The fans ‘noise’ is getting louder and louder every year and I think you’ll find it’s not in agreement with the way you are running things..Talks of a demonstration last year were quickly gathering pace..Nobody wants to demonstrate against you Mr Wenger but nobody wants to see Almunia or Fabianski in goal for the start of next season either. If either appear at the Emirates Cup then you can expect a few raised eyebrows and tut tut’s on the day..

We desperately need another CB.. Another top class one..It doesn’t matter how you spin it or how many youngsters we have coming through, the majority of fans will not be happy if we go into the season with what we’ve got..

You said after last year we had more money than ever and you were intent on strengthening the squad in the areas needed.. You’ve done sod all (again) only lose more players than you buy (again) and we are almost done with pre season (again)..

It is NOT your money. It’s the clubs money. It’s Arsenals money. It’s OUR money..Spend it and reinforce that team because we are weaker than last year and you know it…

You destroyed a perfectly good team. A strong team that had another 2-3 years in it and we’ve won nothing since. At one point we were the best. We had the best players and you let them all go. Top teams don’t let their best players go, they keep them and build on them and after 5 years I thought it would have been obvious to you where we were going wrong but I guess not.

You might be the best manager Arsenal have had but your starting to live off past glories. The club is bigger than you and if you take us into one more year of the same soap opera, filled with false promises and lies then don’t bother renewing your contract..Take a seat upstairs where your book-keeping is more useful and let someone else take over who’s hungry and doesn’t throw real trophies or see 3rd or 4th place as the best we can do…

I still think you’re a legend and what I’ve said doesn’t mean to come across too harsh. After all you’ve done for us I’m more than happy to let you see out your contract. After all, there was a time when you were clearing up and every top club was after you, but you stayed loyal to us.. For that I thank you. I also thank you for guiding the club through a difficult period and keeping our heads above water. Youve done an amazing job, but I think its time someone stuck a rocket up your arse and told you to get back in touch with the fans…If the board wont do it then believe me the fans will…

We have high ambitions for this club. Ambitions fed to us by you. If you want my opinion, if you want to achieve those ambitions you need to sort this squad out and quick.

I know you want that Champions League and I don’t think your going to get it, continuing to do as you are..

I have voiced my concerns and have given you my judgement, but I will stand by and support yours whatever you chose to do, but only for this one last time..Arsenal are the team I love. Arsenal are the team I support and I want them to do well. You are the manager of Arsenal and at the end of the day it’s only your opinion that counts. I just hope you know what you are doing in what could possibly be your last year.. Not just for your sake, but for Arsenals sake..

I don’t for one minute think that when you came up with the blueprints for this ‘project’ of yours, the fairy tale ending was to go 6 years without a single trophy and seeing your contract run out..Just keep that in mind before you put that dusty cheque book back into your sky….

  1. JonJon says:

    congratulations goose..

  2. sam says:

JonJon, I was just wondering, are you a season ticket holder?

  3. does say jj that he is looking for two new defenders and he says he always does signing very early or very late.

lets hope he does cos we desperatly need two defensive players and keeps would go miss either

  4. JonJon says:

    why no sam..are you?

  5. JonJon says:

    hi rsd..

he also said he would have the squad sorted by WC..
and he said he would get a striker in jan last season..
dont think i believe him mate..
tv, kos, jd, nordtviet are his 4 cb’s and song and bartley are his cover..

  6. John says:

Well said, I couldn’t have put it better myself.
It seems that he is backracking on what he said earlier on in the year about strengthening the team, and the defence in particular. I don’t understand what the problem is with the manager not investing in the team. I said it in another post, Wenger buys at Lidl and we should be buying at Harrods. I, for one am sick and tired of his lies.

  7. JonJon says:

you know what wengers like he’ll see that as enough

  8. willo says:

Maybe that jacket you want is a straight jacket. Young fans with blogs. lol. You don’t know how lucky ‘we’ are you muppet. Agent provocateur? Sometimes I wonder.

  9. gooner2 says:

Good article mate, from the heart. Totally agree

  10. sam says:

Thought so, fans who go to a handful of games a season are usually the ones moaning about the money they pay to watch The Arsenal. I am a season ticket holder and pay ouy £1,300 every season without moaning about it, its what we true gooners call loyalty.

  11. he did have the excuse of bendy in jan this time no excuses

  12. JonJon says:

    hi john

wenger just wants to prove everyone wrong..

hes using the recession as an excuse but the truth is the club has been preparing for the recession for years…we have lots of money while the other clubs are suffering..instead of taking advantage of that he’s now using that as an excuse not to buy anyone..

nobody else is buying cos they really are skint…we are not.weve been stockpiling cash for several years so im not buying into that excuse..

  13. American Made says:

This sounds right to me. My sadness comes from the fact that our lack of strengthening seems and feels like a lack of ambition.

Even today, in the press conference, Arsene talked about “competing” for the championship, with a throw away line after about “winning” the championship. HE did not seem convincing when talking about our ability to win the championship.

Lack of transfer ambition/strengthening affects the players more than anyone else… and it doesn’t have to be that way.

Buy the big German for 10-12 million and a goalkeeper who’s better than we’ve got, which is not Schwarzer. That should be the minimum investment this summer, because JonJon is right, we haven’t forgotten how ALL the big clubs we faced kicked the shit out of us easily last year, Chelsea, Man Utd., Barca…

  14. JonJon says:

i spend more than that on travelling to the away games up and down the country so if you want to get all pedantic and nit picky about it i spend more than you..

but i see your point..even though its a flawed one..

  15. Asmo says:

If you want “value for money,” and don’t feel you’re getting it then go spend your money elsewhere.

We need supporters not customers. Supporters support.

  16. John says:

Sam, you do what you like and no one is going to criticize you, that’s your prerogative, but don’t start telling other people how to think. If we think the manager is falling short of doing what’s best for Arsenal FC., then we as supporters have that right. In other words, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!!!

  17. CarlTheGooner says:

You just read my mind, fantastic read and exactly what i think too, p.s im a season ticket holder..

  18. 7masters says:

Don’t worry very soon he would no longer be Arsenal manager. I am 100 percent sure he is making same mistake all over again and it no longer about spending money but arrogance and stubbornness. He always make late decision that are always costly etc He refused to buy a striker in January window. Instead he put short fellow Arshavin in that position and not only demoralised him but it took him ages to get confidence back.

What is wrong with these man? Diaby has proven time and time again he is not good yet he always get in why? Arsenal need at least three defenders two of them able to play in any position at the back, Plus he need a quality goalkeeper, Plus defensive midfielder. Also since he sold Eduardo he must replace him or face disaster.

Man seriously these is time to get away from Arsenal and forget about them for a while until we get someone better. Same mistakes 4 years in a row yet he is done nothing about it why? I think we are winning nothing unless he spend as soon as possible and it his final seasons.

I feel sorry for Cesc now cause coming back to these same old cow who year after year is selling players but not buying anyone. I think something is not right somewhere? The whole place need a good shaking up or face disaster.

  19. JonJon says:

    cheers carl..

asmo.i totally agree..but you should tell that to wenger and the board..

  20. SwedishGoon says:

    Oh shut up will you.

  21. avenell says:

Evening JJ.. If I pay £1500 for a season can I call you a muppet too?

Lol.. nice post JJ .. even if i don’t agree totally..

  22. JonJon says:

    lol Ave..

  23. avenell says:

    SwedishGoon Good argument..

PS “my Dad can beat your dad up”.. In a silly 3 year olds voice..

  24. BigL says:

    @sam you’re a fool.

So you pay for a season ticket do you, big deal. That doesn’t make you some kind of superhero or allow you a superior opinion I’m sure JonJon, like the rest of us spends a small fortune supporting the club each year.

If Arsenal relied on just the season ticket funds the club would go bust. Fortunately we are not all narrow minded like yourself and I am sure the club appreciates the money that all fans spend subscribing to Sky, buying kits, using the Arsenal credit card or many of the other money making schemes the club uses.

  25. American Made says:

And one more thing, I pray for at least one top class Center Back, but we all know we need 2. Djouru has averaged only 8 games per season since he’s been with The Arsenal. If I know that statistic, Arsene knows it as well. Its madness that he would even think about taking us into the new season — with intent to win — with only 4 CBs if one of them is DJ, because that is basically saying we have 3 CBs, one of whom is completely untested in the Prem. And saying Song can cover is also madness because neither Denilson or Diaby have proven able to provide same quality cover in that vital holding role.

  26. BigL says:

ps… blogger. Great post by the way

  27. SuperMac says:

Sad too read this.. Is this a site for Gooners ?

  28. sam says:

Asmo, spot on mate. Too may ‘fans’ demand to be entertained these days, as if they’re having a night out at the bloody theatre . True Supporters stick by their team through thick and thin and most loyal fans gladly hand over their hard earned money without moaning about it. Oh, and by the way JonJon I also travel to most away games.

  29. CarlTheGooner says:

i dont understand why people would argue, this is what it has come down to, us as fans arguing amongst ourselves and fighting one another. and imho it is wenger whos done this. he says hes going to buy then he doesnt, its a fact! and its getting old, why do poeple defend him, i love him like everyone but it is starting to get a bit mind numbing. buy some players for christ sake and stop trying to ”almost” win silverware with a ”young” team…

  30. Jay says:

So fed up with transfers, and people need to stop talking about attack minded transfers (other blogs) If we sign anyone it will be the back 5 that gets a new addition, so no that Italian rat/flop giavanco(spelling)

  31. Sols a homo says:

I love your unhappyness you goon dirt, wengers to hung up on young boys:-)

  32. JonJon says:

    good for you sam..

supermac have you anymore inside info??

cheers for the comment BigL and i agree with all of it..

  33. avenell says:

Supermac.. it is a site to have an opinion.. Put your points forward by all means.

You don’t win a argument by questioning a fellow gooners support, perhaps he just maybe a gooner with more ambition for Arsenal than yourself..

Even though I may agree with yourself more .. 😉

  34. goonerak says:

Don’t worry jonjon, Wenger will get the sack pretty soon. Ivan will be knocking at your door demanding that you become manager as your CV is so impressive.

Once you start spending those millions and we end up like Leeds then all the “loyal” fans who know best will fuck off and leave the rest of us to support the club because we do and not because we demand silverware each year.

Have you ever stopped & wondered why Rochdale fans support Rochdale & not Man Utd?

  35. Rolf says:

If fans like the author of Avenell Road continue to dwindle then the more the merrier! If you would prefer to be in the dreadful financial position that has engulfed the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona for the sake of some silverware then perhaps you should start thinking. Thinking is good. Try it! Season upon season of top flight CL football in a beautiful new stadium, watching a club who work successfully year after year within their financial budget is just not enough for some. Think before you write.

  36. Jenkinson says:

    Total drivel.
This blog is now hidden for ever

  37. JonJon says:

lmao..it never gets tired does it??

i still laugh at those who think we will turn into the next leeds if we spend £30 mil.. lol

  38. John says:

I have a pain in my arse getting beaten up every year by the top teams, and nothing is being done about it.
Wenger is doing a fantastic job at the club, however what he is guilty of is falling short in the areas were we need to strengthen, ie;CB and keeper.
I don’t really care what other people think, I am just about fed up with second best when it comes to shopping for the best.

  39. avenell says:

Jenkinson… good job too… and your banned by the way.. lol..

  40. Anthony says:

You’ve really hit the nail on the head, you are definately speaking the minds of most arsenal fans. i am just anxiously waiting for when the new signings will be announced.

  41. JonJon says:

what annoys me is that we are not far behind the others..if we strengthened we would not only catch them we would over take them but we do the same thing year after year and then are left scrathing our heads and the end like we didnt know we were going to end up with nothing

the club lacks ambition..wenger has settled for what hes got and its the wrong attitude..

a bit more ambition would see us over the line but wenger wont budge on his philosophies even though he knows they dot work..

  42. avenell says:

I must admit.. The spuds were closing in again last year.. I mean the spuds.. we need to jog on..

  43. AFC says:

I can understand the frustrations of some Arsenal fans. I cannot claim to have been a fan for years and years, I Started supporting The Arsenal in 1992. But if I remember rightly we finished 10th that year. The next year we won both domestic cups against Sheff Weds. Andy Linighan scoring the headed winner in the final minutes with a broken nose remains one of my personal favourite memories. Alan Smiths winner against Parma in the cup winners cup is a long story that I won’t go into, but, what a night!
What I’m saying is, we are in the best place to be able to dominate English football for years. We could really do with keeping Cesc. He wants to go to Barca, I don’t hate him for that, its unfortunate. The problem is, I don’t think they have the money to buy him. Once the financial problems of the world come back to haunt football clubs we’ll be sitting pretty. There will be the odd club funded by a billionaire who can spend willy nilly, but these “galactico” teams tend to lack the team spirit to consistently challenge for top honours. I do worry for teams like Manure and the scousers, their debt is horrific. Don’t get me wrong, I want Arsenal to dominate. But I have a real fear these clubs could be in massive trouble not long from now.
My message is, hold tight Gooners. It might be a rough ride. But the way our club is run, I believe we will reap the rewards in the next 5 years plus. I will repeat the call of many other Gooners, do not boo Cesc. Thats just what those filth monkeys want. Get behind the boys, get behind The Arsenal!

  44. Arsene-al says:

Normally dont like dont to complain about a blog on someones site but honestly where do you get the nerve. Theres a reason why hes the manager and not some guy sitting behind his computer thinking the transfer window is like run like your master league on pro evo. Its people like you that are driving this club down not wenger, us fans are supposed to support the club through thick or thin. Not bitch for months about bumps in the road. Wenger has worked miracles for this club but all of you only want to focus on the bad parts. Ok we havnt won a cup in 5 years, BIG FUCKING DEAL. You try fielding a team with no money after losing the best players in the world in a matter of three years, and still managing to fight for thr title and stay in the top four. With everyone against you including ungrateful fans. Makes me sad to see fans turn against the club they claim to love

  45. Breezy says:

    Hi All

I’m with Ave on this one, I don’t totally agree with what JJ has said, but i can see his frustration, as 7masters pointed out Wenger is making the same mistakes over and over again, we can see it surely he can? We need another CB, no arguements at one stage last year we were playing Sol and Silvestre at the, Djourou is already injured, and I expect him to keeping on picking up niggling injuries throughtout the season beacause of the long lay off, when he does get injured we’ll be left with Kos and Vermaleun and no backup, what do we do then play Song there? that just weakens our midfield, because lets face it we don’t have a backup DM, and heaven forbid Song gets injured.

Also a goalkeeper is non negotiable another season of Almunia and I am going go mad, how many chances is he going get?

We need to get ourselves sorted out, I don’t want to hear we tried to sign people but couldn’t there are always alternative players if we can’t get our first choice.

  46. Jay says:

Rivaldo’s apparently coming in as a strike coach for the gunners this year. John James has got foundation on

  47. goonerak says:

jonjon, do you know about UEFA’s financial doping rules that will come into effect in 2012?

  48. JonJon says:

and what will that change goonerak??

    it wont change a thing

  49. Ketch says:

Most of you fans( the ones that agree with the article) are the ones that really annoy me, ive wrote and article yesterday on you guys, you moan about your manager and club because there not doing what you think they should. I for sure trust Wenger’s opinion over yours. You go on how your arsenal through and through yet your saying you’ll stop supporting if he doesnt improve. This is the man that has kept you out of debt and has improved arsenal football club so much over the last decade, yet you just dont apprieciete it. A true supporter is someone like a Stoke or Bolton supporter who cheer on their team even when they have really nothing to play for as they are usually just mid table.

  50. avenell says:

AFC.. i have supported Arsenal since 1971 (before the double) .. and I have watched some average performances in that period of time.

But we were on the rise we were moving into the Super League.. and with a tiny bit more investment we could compete and win it .. that’s the point..
    No going backwards or sideways.

Let’s not be an average moneymaking PLC..
Even if Arsene re invests the money that he has made in transfer dealing should be enough.

  51. JonJon says:

some fans totally miss the point..

we are a self sustaining club..the richest self sustianing club..we announce profits of 40 mill ever year.. and its rising..

you really think we are skint??

  52. CarlTheGooner says:

@AFC so your saying you would be happy waiting 10 years for silverware when in reality it could be next year and by only buying 2 maybe 3 players? do you see how silly that sounds?

  53. goonerak says:

I’ll take that as a no then.

  54. JonJon says:

i understand the rules but i also understand it wont change a thing

your basically saying buy 2012 everyone barring arsenal will be banned or liquidated.. so what are we going to do?? play ourselves??

  55. avenell says:

Arsene-al.. you have to remember that Arsenal are happy to accept those fans like jonjon’s money, just as they are happy to take yours.. so what right do you have of telling Arsenal FC’s customers what they should say?

Just put your points forward and we will read and respond.. thanks.

  56. Ryan says:

Wenger came out and said today that he would buy at least another defender. It doesn’t get more clear than that. These blogs are getting kind of ridiculous.

  57. avenell says:

Didn’t Arsene also say …. “judge me at the end of the season?.. Yeah 3rd..

    Talk is cheap Ryan..

  58. clicktrackheart says:

i stopped reading when i read about no players being signed anymore. we will definitely sign at least one player which will be a CB.

wenger never stated that our business is done by now. in fact he recently (yesterday i think) stated that he has plenty of names on his list and more or less confirmed he’ll sign another CB because “we need at least 4” and he also pointed out that in his mind, we only have 3 to be considered CBs.

i’m 100 percent sure that money is an issue. if we could sign players for fun, we’d probably do.

  59. JonJon says:

wenger also said he would have his squad sorted by start of the world cup..then it was pre season..

so if we are to believe him then the squad by his opinion is sorted..

alot of mixed messages i feel..cant really believe any of them

  60. JonJon says:

arsene wenger 2008- judge me in may……..

    anyone remember that one??

  61. avenell says:

    From the Arse.com…

Arsène Wenger has been talking to his “definite transfer targets” and hopes to do business before the World Cup begins.

  62. JonJon says:

arsene wenger 2010- the financial shackles have been lifted and the money is available and we will strengthen the areas we need with experience.

ivan gazidis- arsenal supporters trust- the funds are available targets have been identified and the squad will be strenghtened.

  63. John says:

Are you guys not getting it? We could have, no should have won the title last year. Once again Wenger tried to paper over the cracks, yes paper over the cracks. It’s unforgivable that a club as big as ours was left to rely on someone like Silvestre in one of the most important positions on the pitch. Get real guys, I knew from as early as December we were going to be in trouble and sure enough the injuries started to kick in and we were left with a shambles of a team. FFS.

  64. CarlTheGooner says:

    John speaks truth.

  65. Eggfootcheeseball says:

Awful. Thank goodness Arsenal’s greatest ever Manager wouldn’t waste his life reading this utter shite, it would worry me that he would think we were all this ungrateful.

  66. avenell says:

    Another classic..

“I think we can overcome [Chelsea],” he told arsenal.com. “For a while we were not investing maybe because we had built the stadium but I think our financial situation is now becoming much stronger and we will be capable to buy the players we need to buy.

  67. mark reed says:

well said mate agree total. We love you Arsenal come on you Gunners!!!!!

  68. avenell says:

Eggfootcheeseball don’t put your comment down mate.. it was okay..

  69. JonJon says:

    ivan gazidis arsenal.com

arsenal have no property debts now!!!!!

  70. Boris says:

    Very well done!!!
Just another defender like Mertesacker and a proper goalkeeper is just what Arsenal need!
Common guys everyone nows that our now 4 goalkeepers either suck or are too young, every one exept Wenger.

  71. JonJon says:

    ivan gazidis arsenal.com

    arsenal have sufficient funds

  72. Old gooner says:

Well said, I and a great many others agree with you. I for one have had enough of his lame and stupid excuses.
We are beginning to become an if only team and I don’t like it.

  73. RH says:

I find it quite staggering that we have not made major signings this summer. We all know Wenger said ‘I can now compete with Chelski in the transfer market’ & I really thought this summer we’d spend 30m (and as JonJon has pointed out it, we’d hardly end up like Leeds)
We were hammered by the 3 top class teams we played last year. Chelski/ManU/Barca – HAMMERED – People go on about how close we were to the title & what if the waiter hadn’t done this and what if Arshavin had done that but does anyone really think we deserved the title last year?

For me, Chamakh replaces Dudu & Kosc replaces Senderos, both hopefully turn out to be improvements.
To rectify how badly we were beaten by those 3 top sides last season we needed to add 3 real top class players to our brilliant young squad. A GK, a CB & a DM. That’s in addition to the 2 we’ve signed.

I don’t want Wenger out, I couldn’t think of Arsenal without him at the helm. We are going to get problems in boardroom soon & we are going to need a man like Wenger running the team. But that’s not to say I’m really disappointed in him this summer.

  74. clicktrackheart says:

what i do indeed not get is why we just don’t fucking give up on Schwarzer and sign any, ANY keeper that just is a good bit better than our current ones. any good keeper will do. no worries about which position he can play or any shite like that – just a keeper

  75. arsene-al says:

so your accusing me of telling fans how to think yet you have no problem telling wenger how to do his job. again i dont mean to talk down your article but i dont agree with how many arsenal fans are reacting to not winning a trophy. also who says arsenal is happy to accept those kind of fans, true it is a business like everything else in the world but what do you think theyr going to do, email you and say thanks but no thanks we dont want you as a fan. some things just cant be controlled but the least you can do is support someone thats doing their best to keep you entertained. i can fully understand frustration, i share it just like plenty of arsenal fans..but just as you got annoyed by me telling fans how to act, others at the club also get annoyed by others telling them how to do their job

  76. Breezy says:

Why do those who disagree with post feel the need to attack the author, its his point of view. We all support Arsenal and over the past five years our support has been tested, so please stop going on about how people should go support other clubs or are not true supporters. Pointing the flaws in the team does not make you unloyal.

  77. JonJon says:

    thanks breezy

  78. shame some people are only get half way down before they ppost have been some classic’s tonight. 🙂

must be flying up the rankings

we are fifth in current transfer net spending

so give him till till deadline day to make my judgement

  79. JonJon says:

    see rsd

we are the only club with any money and we are still 5th in rankings 😉

we should be at least 2nd

  80. Danish Gooner says:

Spon on,couldnt have put it better myself.

  81. Danish Gooner says:

    That should be spot on.

  82. Danish Gooner says:

we all know by now that Wenger stating that he is looking for another defender is just to placate the fans, then he can come out 31st of august and say his usual drivel like,I stayed up all night or the classic,we came so close but didint have time enough or the ultra classic we couldnt find anyone at hte right price.

  83. forza forza says:

    cracking post,very well said.

  84. is only with the sale of dudu we were second

  85. kaiko says:

I agree with some of your comments jj, but do you have any thoughts about who should be at the helm instead of Wenger? I can se no one better. That’s not to say we don’t need to strenghten. we clearly need a new no.1 and a CB. Bet they’ll arrive soon…

  86. joseph says:

All this rubbish been talked about getting rid of Mr Wenger just two things. 1st spending lots of money does not assure winning trophies ie sp*rs and leaves teams with large debts to manage leading to borrowing money just to pay wage, also relegation.
2nd Who do we get to replace him and can run the club on the money available to them after building a new stadium.

  87. jj says:

the waiting list for season tickets rose this year, no dwindling numbers, a defender and goalkeeper will be signed, diaby will be great this year, cesc is staying, chamackkkkk will score 25, we have eboue, history, financially stong, great young players about to come through. my glass is half full. i pay 1300 a year for season ticket, and cant wait for season to start..

    COME ON YOU REDS…………….

  88. JonJon says:

bookkeeping has always been one of his biggest strengths. dont change the fact that we should be seriously investing..not just one or two million net spend is going to improve anything from last year

  89. tom says:

What I find hilarious is all these 2-bob blogs addressing Wenger directly like their voice has any credence to anything! Worst thing about the internet is the license to talk shit – and in a way I’m now officially part of that clan, but I am trying to highlight rather than join.

Idiots like you probably ‘voiced’ your concern when Alex Song first struggled to adapt, when a young Fabregas was promoted to anchor midfield when Vieira left, when ‘short’ Vermaelen was bought at the back etc.,

Keep talking your shit with the utter delusion that your voice/opinion has any validity to the greatest manager this football team has ever had. I’m sure he’s taking notes.

  90. did the press conference go out live on avto today?

  91. JonJon says:

    dunno rsd..

dont bother with that crap anymore..ive seen some of it on skynews though

  92. JonJon says:

that was aload of bollox tom

a comment that was neither here nor there, totally void of anything relevant to the post..

    well done for trying though

  93. Irish Gooner says:

Poor old Arsene, he really does get a hard time doesnt he, well he brings it all on himself and at the end of the day his refusal to spend just a little of the kitty will be the end of him, yes we are gooners and yes we will be there long after wenger, but in any job in the world you need to learn from mistakes, Wenger has not done this and if its Almunia or flapianski in goal tomorrow then Wenger should be told to sign a keeper or gazidis should go and sign one himself…ill say it now and you can all shoot me later…”if we do not sign a world class keeper before the windows shuts, Wenger has to go and be replaced with someone who will spend even 50% of whats available” financial security is one thing, has no one seen the empty seats last year, people are not turning up..they have had enough and its all down to wenger, i would say he has roughly 60 million if he wants it, and is now saving a fortune on not paying wages to gallas campbell etc, even if he spent 5 on a keeper and 15 on a CB i would run around north london starkers with 2 cannons haning from my nuts!!!!! do the decent this Arsene, for all our sakes!

  94. he has got you on song tho jj 🙂

  95. Kipmonster says:

Great article !! …….. All we ask is for pragmatism not a spending spree. Buy what we clearly NEED which is a top draw goalkeeper & 2 experienced centre backs as the new novice & the fragile Djourou are not the partner Vermaelen immediately needs.

  96. dennis says:

if we don’t out spend City in this window Wenger and the Board should get the sack. Its a proven fact that the more you spend the more you win ! Just look at what City ,Madrid, and liverpool achieved last year. This team is so bad its hardly worth supporting it

  97. JonJon says:

ive got him on everything else though rsd

a ratio of 1:100 still keeps me ahead.. 😉

  98. Kipmonster says:

I propose that Arsenal fans World wide post letters once a week for the next four weeks to UEFA & FIFA complaining about Barcelona FC’s ‘tapping up’ of Cesc Fabregas. Also post a letter just once to Arsenal FC requesting that they formally complain to UEFA & FIFA. I have drawn up 3 template letters that I will email to willing participants. All you need to do is type in your own Name & Address before printing off & posting. Momentum will be boosted by you forwarding the email to every one of your Arsenal FC fan family & friends, encouraging them to participate.
The aim of repetitive letters is to create an Admin headache for UEFA & FIFA with thousands of letters received from all over the world & display the strength of feeling from Arsenal FC fans. The purpose of the single letter to Arsenal FC is again to display the strength of feeling from us fans.
My email address for this campaign from where I will email you the letter templates is …….. ArsenalFansHateBarcelonaFC@gmail.com

  99. JonJon says:

whats outspending citeh got to do with anything dennis??

we’ll never outspend them..but spending what we have available would be a start and i dont believe for one minute that £2mil is all we have..

  100. JonJon says:

why do ppl think that when fans say they want to see re inforcements they want to spend 400mil???some of the arguements are funny..and its a good job otherwise they’d be piss poor..

  101. Lady Arsenal says:

‘Talks of a demonstration last year were quickly gathering pace’

HAHAHAHAHA they were gathering pace until the fat bastards got up from their keyboards to make themselves a sandwich.

    You make me laugh!

He said 2 defensive signings in the same interview. Wait until we start losing games before you get aggravated!

  102. Yat says:

A really depressing read. Agreed we are only a couple of players short of being a team that can compete at every level…but that is positive as well as negative. Much as I would love a few big signings to take us the final step it is clear that it doesn’t necessarily make the difference. A massive money signing doesn’t guarantee success – City have found that out over the last few seasons (even if they pour enough money away to make it happen. We cannot compete on that financial level…and I would rather the club did not gamble away the future against other clubs willing to ignore any financial constraints. It’s been 5 years. But we’ve seen some fantastic football (along with a euro final, close in two championships and a long way in the cups) in a period where the team has been ripped apart and rebuilt. Let’s not become a club that forgets who we are and takes for granted where we are, but also what we could be in a short time.

  103. oliver says:

well jj, you certainly got people talking. as you can probably surmise, i do not agree with most of your post, but i do respect your opinion, and your right to it, just as the rest of us have the right to ours.

we can look at this in a couple of ways – we are not happy with the players arsene has signed, we need to strengthen more, he and the board place profit and debt-reduction above winning now and they will not go the extra step we need. that is one way of looking at it.

another way of looking at it is that arsene indicated the transfer business is not yet done, that at the start of the summer he stated he would like to get his business done (as opposed to promising he will have everything done and dusted by the start/finish of the world cup), that the club currently has a couple of irons in the fire and in their usual opaque manner are not talking openly, that arsene believes in the players he has while simultaneously knowing the squad is not the finished article – and therefore perfers to accentuate the positive for the current squad’s benefit (not necessarily what many supporters would like to hear), and that arsene is pragmatic enough to know that transfers are never easy to complete, and whilst funds may well be available, prices and valuations are over the top. do i think he and gazidis should be more flexible with bidding, and pay more than we normally would in cases where need is obvious? of course i do, but i temper that with the knowledge that i am on the outside looking in as a supporter. i was not privy to the acutal discussion when arsenal contacted fulham about mark schwarzer…or when we contacted bolton about cahill, everton about jagielka.

at the end of the day, it is all about perspective for us gooners. if you see things from the former perspective, it is going to be a frustrating preseason and season. perhaps any signings still will not satisfy you. regardless, it is completely your right to be dissatisfied.

if you are like me and see things from the latter, it is july 30th today. two weeks before the start of the actual season. will arsene bring in more players? i think so, but do not know for sure. for me, it is still too early to panic, and i shall not work myself up over this. and if he does not bring players in, i won’t pile on him either – i will watch the squad this season and cheer them on – who is to say with 100 per certainty that we will not win anything with the current squad we have?

i do not see arsene as a deluded, doddering old fool or con-man as some seem to. i wish he would be a bit less rigid and conservative about certain things, but he is who he is. faults and all, he is still infinitely more qualified for this job than i am, which is why i may grit my teeth about certain things, but i will not let is send my blood pressure up or diminish my support for my team.

btw, jj, your post was certainly from the heart – nobody should criticize your passion. nor should anyone attack you personally – debating is attacking premises and arguments, not people.

  104. JonJon says:

im glad your so happy about it lady arsenal

and for the record its more than just keybaord talk..

but its for me to know and you to find out 😉

    nice blog by the way..

  105. JonJon says:

    hi oliver.. 😉

and your opinion is appreciated and respected..even though you rarely agree with me u always raise a good point that cant be frowned upon..

anyone who can debate reasonabley can obviously see the wider picture..those who act like children are rarely looked twice upon and often ignored..

i think wengers got this one last season to put it right and at the end i dont want to hear no more ‘judge me in may’ talk..

i think hes thinking about walking away anyway and hes saving the cash for the next manager to spend.. 😉

  106. JonJon says:

and for the record i would have been happy for wenger to wait until deadline day for signings..

its the fact that he said the team would be sorted by now that pisses me off

hes either lying (again) or the squad is finished..

i fear in both cases this is true..

  107. Lady Arsenal says:

Tell me more about this revolt, Mr. Tyler. It’ll certainly have the sympathy of the country’s football fans – ‘poor old Arsenal fans’ they’ll say. ‘Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch of supporters.’

By the way, it’s not me flogging t-shirts. I’m much more aggressive and opinionated.

  108. avenell says:

    Who’s flogging t-shirts LA???

  109. oliver says:

jj, like everything else the truth is probably in between our positions. for me, i think gazidis was telling the truth when he said funds are avaiable. i also think a caveat or two would be helpful: something along the lines of that does not me we are just going to splurge on an ordinary player because that is what his club values him at. or that arsenal will spend in accordance with our traditionally conservative values.

i think we are looking – and i think we know we have to sign someone – and i think we will. whomever we sign, though, i can guarantee that some of our supporters will not be satisifed. afc cannot afford to play to everyone. our preferred targets may well not be available. that is why i think we have to be patient – and then see how the season unfolds regardless of what does (or does not) happen…

btw, ms. hurley is “lady arse” – i often read and occasionally comment on her blog. i am not sure that “lady arsenal” is the same person. perhaps they are, but i am a bit skeptical of that.

  110. everyone is flogging shirts

  111. JonJon says:

i can tell by your earlier LA that its of no interest to you therefore i dont feel it would be appropriate to share with you..

it would just be wasting everyones time and to be honest ive said all thats needed to be on the matter

  112. avenell says:

    How many you sold RSD..??

  113. JonJon says:

    and scarves rsd 😉

  114. JonJon says:

and if you mean the shirts in the side bar, only two ppl have one of those shirts.. ones me and the others not you

  115. JonJon says:

you maybe right oliver on the lady arse/nal thing..

    i dunno..

got rid of 4 but quite a bit of interest

you’d have to speak to dante about the scarfs
    website looks good tho hey

  117. avenell says:

    The two and only..

  118. dont sound like her jj

  119. avenell says:

I make my own up RSD..

I do need to flog a few one day.. Cesc 4 sale etc..

  124. avenell says:

I got the message through the other day RSD.. Like I say I need to get me arse in gear and start to sort out postage.. Royal mail struggles in Cornwall, don’t know what postman Pats like in the rest of the world.. 😉

I need to organize it tbh..

  125. JonJon says:

    nice job RSD..

  126. avenell says:

Good news regards NN.. Nice one..

  127. only put letters through the post box here
everything else i have to pick knuts
watch when post office shuts down in blighty will be the same

  128. oliver says:

let’s see what happens. each season is different, every circumstance is different. i know the temptation is to see a continued pattern of deception from arsene/afc, but i don’t but into that. our club may be inflexible on certain things, and make certain things more difficult than other clubs do, but i think they have the club’s best interests at heart.

arsene will not be around forever, so those who cannot stand him will get their wish someday, probably within the next few years. if he does extend his contract, i do not think will be a long term extension, perhaps only a couple of years at a time.

  129. avenell says:

Another footballer not quite understanding what a 5 year 100k a week deal means..

  130. asked nick to reconsider

I’m still not 100% sold on your style and still not that impressed with your spelling and formatting, however there is no doubt that you are opinionated and passionate, which is something we like on NewsNow (within the bounds of decency). Therefore, I am willing to propose a compromise.

  131. avenell says:

Oliver.. I don’t think many really hate arsene.. But we just want the old Arsene back who would speculate (use) then accumalate..

Not invest zero.. not even transfer profits.. If he was happy to keep Ade for instance, why not invest the money that Ade’s transfer brought to the club. We wouldn’t be any worse off.

  132. did you see this by the way afuck off to puyol and scroll down for lets laugh at spurs

  133. think wenger was the cautious one and dein was the one who pushed him.

  134. avenell says:

Not sure what was funnier rsd.. the article or the score.. haha

  135. dennis says:

lets see how “awesome” Flamini is this weekend

  136. dont know but watching the goal highlight made my morning

  137. avenell says:

It would take at least 10 games before we see the real Flamster..
That’s the excuse we say when our players don’t get regular games..

  138. thier still on the goal highlight page of the blog if you aint seen them whats even funnier is villrreal must have only just come back to training and arn’t even in europa. lol

  139. JonJon says:

didnt know everyone was off to watch flamini play

rather see how awesome we are if im being honest..flaminis form hasnt bothered me in about 2 years..

  140. avenell says:

That’s me done gentlemen.. and any ladies.

    Nice chatting to ya.. nite.

  141. dennis says:

can anyone explain why he does not get a regular game ? Him being so good and all

  142. cos he moves to fast for the rest of the team they’d all get hernia’s if played week in week out.

good shout ave stupid time of the night see you guys

  143. oliver says:

avenell, it may well be that the money was put elsewhere to address another need. perhaps it went into the youth set-up. i would prefer it go into the first team as well, but i do not know all the circumstances. perhaps there was a shortfall in another area that necessiatated the sale – i am confident that ade’s attitude and lack of effort during the previous season had a lot to do with his departure, but there may have been other circumstances at work. it is not like afc are open and forthcoming about these matters, is it?

i am with everyone that would like to see proceeds from player transfers invested into the squad – perhaps some went towards contracts, some went to other areas. but i don’t know what the needs were at that moment in time, so i will not have a go at arsene for it.

i saw flamini’s quotes also – no different from what th14 said. i think most of his former afc teammates are non-committal on it – “do what your heart dictates”. that way they don’t take sides, while knowing that it is not only up to cesc. only hleb broke ranks and i applaud him for that.

one final thing from me: i have seen many comments on blogs saying we do not want to end up like leeds or portsmouth (or third lanark ac up in scotland, if you really want to get extreme) by overspending on flavour of the month while not having the resources to support it. i am not suggesting that by spending big on a couple of players will put us on that road. i am, however, cautioning that is something that can become a habit before you know it. and once it is a habit, the aforementioned disasters quickly follow. one does not automatically lead to the other, but we always need to be careful not to let it become a habit.

  144. JonJon says:

i think he doesnt get a game because of gatusso..but with flamini being only 26 and gatusso over 30 i guess they are preparing for him to take the role as a long term replacement..

  145. JonJon says:

    night ave

  146. gnarleygeorge9 says:

When I 1st read this post I thought, blimey a certain big brown bear had crossed the street to Avenell Road, but when I put my glasses on it said JonJon, not GeoffGeoff 🙂

Well said JonJon. I agree, Le Ebeneezer Scrooge needs to do most of what you say, although, with all due respect, your analogy of a £300 jacket did not make sense IMO.

I would say, Le You Know Who is more like the husband who promises to take him wife out for a slap up nosh to appease her constant grumblings about the fact they as a couple never go out, then when it comes to “judgement day” he cops out & says, why don’t we just get a pizza delivery & stay home to watch Eastenders 😆 Eventually, she will leave him, like the fans seem to be, as you say.

P.S Before you ask, no I’m not speaking from experirnce here 😉 we never watch Eastenders, chamoneeeeeeee!

  147. JonJon says:

    hi gg9

cheers..geoffs regarded as one of the best so for you to make that comparison is an honour.. 😉

what are your expectations for the season..??

  148. tony parker says:

“If I fork out for a £300 quid Paul Smith jacket, I don’t want to get it home – only to wear it once and find all the buttons have fallen off and all the stitching has come loose. I don’t want to take it back to the store, only to be told by the store manager that I can’t have my money back, or indeed a better quality jacket.”

I believe your analogy is somewhat ironic. Imagine you pay 30m for a player and he turns out to be a flop, I’m pretty sure you will not get back your investment, and you will not be able to return the player for you cash back as well!!

  149. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    G’day jonjon

I guess my expectations are tied in with whether Le Ebeneezer Scrooge signs the type of players you have mentioned/offloads the 2 keepers for better quality. But as each week passes that no one is signed/let go, confidence of winning something ebbs away with me 😉

  150. gnarleygeorge9 says:

In short I spose, Old Frenchie is becoming a frustration, but I certainly will still show him the respect he deserves, by not using childish language that some use on other sites to describe him. No one deserves those sorts insults who loves The Arsenal as he must.

I take my hat off to Old Mon Ami for digging his heels in with Cesc, but digging his heels in when coming to the transfer market is not good, especially when he is supposed to have a war chest that would the envy of many a club.

But what can you do, especially down here 18,000 kms away, just blog & wait for the PL to commnece on Fox Sports 😛

  151. 7masters says:

Thanks for mention, I think for first time in ages I would stop watching Arsenal why?

    1. When they play big games with Media and pressures on Wenger pick a weird squad.
    2. Players look scared it almost like watching them being sent to gallows.
    3. Every high ball to Arsenal defence is to painful to watch.
    4. Last few minutes if we are leading One Nil or nil nil is almost scary.
    5. Wenger choose the biggest games to experiment with players why.
    6. Once transfer window shut and some players get injured he start talking to media how he almost signed Ronaldo etc Blah, blah
    7. Arsenal have sold so many quality players from 2004 to none have been replaced.
    8. He buy young players but he has n confidence to play them unless they are French or speak French or in Denilson case no body knows.
    9. The team make no effort yet each one is given new contract with two years to run on previous one why? are they rewarding for failure.
    10. Top teams easily beat us each time weather at home or away.
    11. They collapse easily etc Wigan game probably the most painful game ever for me.
    12. He keep buying young players who simply never make it, Apart from Fabregas no youth player has broken through yet.
    13. Watching Arsenal play should carry health warning I just feel sorry for our fans.
    14. Smaller teams know if they pressure us something would give way.
    15. Wenger never accept defeat but complain about something instead of reality that his team is not good enough.
    16. He sale players when they are at peak. Etc Gilberto still playing at highest level.
    17. Make strange choices etc nominated Gallas as captain when Gilberto would have been better suited. Then the player finding out not from him but in media odd.
    18. Man Everytime Wenger make a decision last four years has been mistakes after mistakes.

the list goes on on on

It seem the only functioning bit about Arsenal is selling selling selling. players posing around to advertise products to sell sell sell that it. It a business who are out to milk every penny from Fans.

What they don’t realise is that if they win something people would buy even more. The least they could do is at least make effort.

  152. NOel says:

“I am very confident [we’ll do better than last season],” he said. “We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money.

“We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off.”

Where is there any mention about transfers? Way to hit the panic button. Is this the new Le Groan?

  153. Mark says:

If any of you think we will win the championship with that squad you are mad! Im sorry, but, in Arsene we RUST!

He is putting our club into the ground. Remember when we used to compete with man utd

  154. Andy1886 says:

Anyone else had enough of the ‘I support Wenger’ brigade? Funny, I thought we all supported Arsenal, AW is an employee, a very important one granted, but let’s face it we want the best for the club, not any individual. I’ve been a supporter for 40 years, have had issues on and off with various managers, and feel that all the cash I’ve poured into the Arsenal coffers gives me the right to an opinion without being called a traitor.

Eveyone has a sell by date – even Arsene. We’ll still be here after he has gone. Arsene is an employee, and as such is judged on what he achieves now – not in the past. Try telling your boss that okay, you haven’t been meeting your (self confessed) targets recently, but hey – you were the top performer five years ago (and see how long you last).

Just an aside – for all those who trot out the ‘best manager we’ve ever had’ stuff, a certain H. Chapman wasn’t a complete disaster y’know!

  155. mikeB says:

what’s the matter with you? Do you self harm or something?
This is the START of the season; a time for positive thinking and cheer.
Wenger will get another CB and we WILL do well this year.
The time for this sort of negativity is if it all goes bad, and you can get your rocks off by telling us how right you were… until then try a little more balance.
Just look at your last fer posts…

Such a shame, because I really did quite like this site a few weeks ago.

  156. SPECTRUM says:

Quote ; “It is whether the players are better players or lesser players and I think we can compete with the players we have,” he said. – Arsene Wenger, July 31st 2010.
Funny, I had a feeling he’d say something like this. Substitute 2010 for 2005, 2006, 2007….you get the picture.
    “In Arsene we rust”.

  157. 7masters says:

I know it a start of a season but it same old story, waiting until last minute to close deals. Why can’t they just buy players straight away? Something is not right at all. The problem is down to the manager and it nothing to do with board at all. He is behaving more like Arsenal banker rather football manager and it time he get on with it. Keep rapping up to media about these and that when problem is coming from him.

Take his grumblings about 25 players rule in media these week. What has he got to complain about really?
he really is out of it and need to come down from his castle in the air.

  158. mikeB says:

    Hi 7m,
we have a new stadium, it holds almost twice as many supporters as the old. We have a team that is rated in the top ten in Europe for just about averything. Most of us cannot recall the last time we missed out on CL qualification.

You might think to do this we would have mortgaged our souls, but no. We are one of the most financially viable clubs in Britain; possibly the world.

Wenger did this, for you, and me, and every other Gooner. He knows far more about transfer value and of the true (rather than tabloid) marketplace than any of us.

    Patience… He’ll get us there.

As I said to Rico once… think about Fever Pitch… eighteen years, eighteen f***ing years! Five is nothing, and this is our year… you see if I’m not right.

And as for ‘this is your last year to come up with something, Arsene… what a load of cobblers. You’re either an Arsenal supporter or you’re not. the rest is just hot air and hysteria…

    keep the faith.

  159. Erick says:

    boom howdy folks

  160. Erick says:

no keeper it seems we sill have to keep up with Al and flap
    Sad sad

  161. mikeB says:

sorry, missed the bit about his grumbling over the 25 man rule. I agree with him.

You wait until the latter stages of the CL and see what happens to the PL Clubs. Thanks to stupidity we will become the ‘poor men’ of the CL. We don’t need any more handicaps to our squad strength; the EPL and the Blackburns and Birminghams and Stoke Cities are more than enough already.

  162. 7masters says:

Yes everything is great no doubt we thanks Wenger for that, But now let just get back to winning ways or at least make effort that’s all. I don’t care if we don’t but we should show effort and passion. Watching Arsenal is unnerving experience and we need to let teams know we are not a pushover.

Also I don’t understand these culture of rewarding losers with new contracts why? In my book I would sell Denilson, Aluminia, Bendtner, Diaby( we should get real here he is no Viera), Clichy (make to many mistakes in big games and cannot cross sell him now before it to late). I would give Rosicky and Johan Djorou one more season and ship them.

Now those players are simply not Arsenal players at all and we need to replace them all. Goalkeeper, Two defenders, DM, Striker. And these are easily affordable but one more season of under achievement means it would be harder to even do anything about it in future. Plus more players are leaving than us replacing them.

Well I wish them good luck and just hope for the best, Also I hope they play without fear.

  163. JonJon says:

    morning erick howdy partner

mike B, no one doubts the achievements that arsene has made over the years..it is highlighted in the post.

at the same time though there has to be the correct balance..he cant go round telling everyone his main two targets are the CL and PL and then build a squad no good for either..

wenger and gazidis have both gone on record as saying the club now has no property debts at all and the finances are there..

but wengers still acting like they are not..

  164. JonJon says:

erick..ive been saying all summer that wenger will have no intention of buying a new keeper..

almunia and fab are not good enough..weve apparently offered 2 mil to fix this problem..

    2 fucking million

arsenal are a top top club and they dont know who there GK is..how many other top top clubs share that problem

    i’ll tell you.. NONE

  165. mikeB says:

we will… this year, but I don’t consider them losers.

Diaby could well be on his last warning; he does go walkabout sometimes and his concentration levels are poor, but on the positive he has streaks of brilliance to compensate.

Denilson is a good young player who gets the same sort of press that Jon Sammels used to get (back to Fever Pitch again) I don’t think it’s justified.

Bendtner is creative, but too cocky, and hair-brained; he’ll grow out of it; hopefully this year.

The keeper crisis; now there you have a point. Only Chesney (I rerfuse to constantly look up the spelling) fills me with hope, but then again I don’t see them in training, or know if there’s anyone better out there.

Remember that Almunia and Fabianski made their errors last year in pressure-cooker atmospheres. How many of those apparent and available replacements did the same? I think we’ll get one, but I’m not entirely convinced he’ll be the answer to our prayers; but what do i know?

    Have a good one.

  166. Erick says:

    hi JJ

that sucks what is AW thinking am sure he will curse himself when the league gets tough

Am just tired of hearing him double speak am worried we are going to the new season weaker than we were last season

  167. JonJon says:

if the finances of the club are no longer a problem its up to wenger as a MANAGER to now fix the problem in the team..

hes brought in a striker but let a striker go
hes brought in a CB but let 4 go
hes not even bothered with the midfield even though it lacks pace and workrate

and after watching the teams flaws over recent seasons people are actually ready to accept these decisions..

ppl should be really saying hang on a minute, wheres all the players you were going to sign for all the problems you said we had with all the money youve said weve got..

a net spend of two million hasnt fixed anything and it will be the same story next year..

  168. SPECTRUM says:

MikeB (at 11;13) – quote ; “f***ing years! Five is nothing, and this is our year… you see if I’m not right”.
Sounds like the scene from Monty Python’s Holy Grail – the Black Knight with his arms and legs chopped off.
    “In Arsene we rust”.

  169. Erick says:

    mike b

Spot on re chesney he seems to be the only one getting things done but Mannone is not that far off

  170. mikeB says:

I take your point, but, it’s only a matter of time before financial constraints are imposed… good housekeeping now means sensible wage bills and a sensible balance sheet in the future; and thereby less pain.

Spend a few bob yes, but don’t do what the hysterics are screaming for and spend fortunes. I know the folly of that, because it’s the same thing my wife does, every time she gets in sniffing distance of Bond Street… and it’s painful come balancing time.

  171. JonJon says:

erick..the script was written before the transfer window opened..

everyone knew what was going to happen..and still ppl are burying their head in the sand and accepting it..

  172. mikeB says:

I agree, Mannone as a third choice would be good; remember Fulham. But then, that’s a bit like now; only difference would be Chesney needing to be promoted and not over-exposed, and that in turn means we’re back to needing a new face.

  173. Erick says:

JJ if AW fails and am hoping am wrong i will be calling for his head come the new season then Cesc wll be official off may RVP who knows we need three new playes JD is injury prone so is RVP

Mike B true JJ keep on saying if he is good enough age is just but a number get him in there and give him the experience this are desperate time my friend

  174. JonJon says:

there lies the problem..weve been preparing for the financial restraints for years..we are years ahead of everyone else and now everyone else are suffering we still lay dormant..

nobodys asking to spend silly money..what ppl are asking for is to spend what we do have and after years of stockpiling cash i dont beleive for one minute that 2mil is all we have..

we paid off 150mil of a loan last season..gave 17 players new contracts and after doing all that still announced profits of over 40mil..think it was something like 46mil

so where is that money..?? why arent we spending it and if the club now has no financial debts why are we still stockipiling it??

we are the richest self sustained club in the world..weve got the cash…we need to stop making excuses and spend it and no it wont turn us into the next leeds if we do..

the money that we make every year now needs to go back into the team…and the baord and the manager sid we have the money..

  175. mikeB says:

Sorry folks; gotta go… we all gonna welcome our best mate Flamini this afternoon???

Some chance!!! Have a good one.

  176. 7masters says:

    @mike b

I applaud you for sticking with these lot but I am not holding my breath. Also if we really are after Fulham Goalkeeper I would worried. Wenger use to make mistakes before before Unbeaten Seasons ETC. Cygan Loool

But now it something else sometimes I think the curse of invisible seasons has taken it effects. I mean now the top teams make sure Arsenal never repeat that again. It in fact a collective effort from top team to lowest to stop us winning to many games in a row. I would have exchanged unbeaten seasons for One champion League plus two premiership. it has also created a manager whose ego has gone through the roof.

Most of players have been given chances and for once cannot blame the manager. He should move on and get those who can play for Arsenal full stop.

  177. Erick says:

    Mike B

Be easy on him the club also treated him unfairly

  178. Zulu Gooner says:

Too negative a Blog Im` afraid. why not support Sp*rs?

  179. Raz says:

Great blog. It’s obvious it would attract people with blind faith. It seems like they don’t mind mediocrity. Most of them are probably armchair supporters or don’t understand the value of money.

  180. avenell says:

Zulu… why don’t you support a team that’s happy in the europa.. us arsenal are supposed to be aiming to be the best.. have you no ambition for our great club?

Afternoon folks.. anyone watching the game?

    Cygan looks good. 😉

  181. chika says:

this is probably the most honest article that i’ve ever read. i hope mr. wenger gets time to read it.

  182. yeah did and looks real deal in that game

  183. Andy Mack says:

How many times does AW have to say he’s looking for more defenders?
If he doesn’t get any then it’s because he believes that what’s available isn’t better than we have already. There’s lots of noise in the press about players availability (like the dumb Sh1ts saying Cesc is leaving) but we don’t know the truth of it.
But he’s said he’s looking, give a break!

  184. W.A.T.H says:

Just seen this on NN top articles where the fuck have you lot been ?? I thought you’d all retired and gone off to the highlands to put ya feet up………!! Where the fuk is everyone and where the fuck you all been during a week of silence……….? and whats all this putting a post up when most of us are out on the piss of a nighttime have you no sense of timing..?

Typical JJ article of course I wonder if your now a little more forgiving of this Kos fella, read the game very well indeed….!.

As said JJ you make very valid points but also some that make you sound like a jcl………!

One thing today highlights is that we are desperate for a keeper and seeing as he obviously ain’t throwing Chezny in at the deep end then best we get that sorted cos otherwise the new season is gonan be grim……!

  185. avenell says:

Evening WATH.. How are you mate?

    The new boys did good..

  186. W.A.T.H says:

I’m ok Ave was thinking of having a whip round for flowers 4 ur funerals but seems I now want my money back….!! lol…………..

Boys did ok JJ needs to eat a large slice of humble on Kos and no need to say a word about the pratt between the sticks..?

Where u all been this week did you all have system failures or you all on hols..?

  187. avenell says:

TBH.. I don’t know where rico is on her hols I think.. JJ has more time at the weekend and I have a kitchen project that I seem to be getting more and more involved in..

I need to get it nice for whoever won the bet last month.. 😉

But we may do bit more in the evenings when we have a bit of time..

  188. W.A.T.H says:

I send her an email early in the week and not had a reply cos she said she was back off her hols monday or tues I think…. Wondered if the site was down or something but then silence was rather strange then decided you’d all called it a day or had had a lovers tiff and knocked it on the head.

    I don’t bet so def wasn’t me………………

If you gonna do evening best then post the next morning so us ppl with time on ouyr hands can talk crap all day long cos when it comes to nighttime I prefer to go drink 🙂

  189. rico has been around to day on peaches site missed her tho

kos was worth the watch today

  190. W.A.T.H says:

RSD how’s u fella long time……… peaches site…? don’t kno that one only really come on here when someone posts otherwise I don’t bother going elsewhere

  191. sorry you might also know it as london’s http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/

    all good
    getting read for kick off

  192. W.A.T.H says:

Yeh am fine mate, the WC woz ok but nice to have the proper footie back eh………! Today was ok more postives than negatives although the big neg made up 4 all the poz’s…..!

  193. was nice to hear the fatihful

  194. W.A.T.H says:

I will be most happy with that keeper we need and another 2 centre backs……… then and only then do we have a chance to compete…!.

  195. avenell says:

The weird evoloution of blogs.. It all started with East lower and Goonerholic.. a twisting sordid tale .. 😉

I should write a book on it all..

  196. avenell says:

WATH.. what sort of quality CB do you want as they would be second and third choice?
I’m not sure of the quality Arsene would settle for.

Would you not consider Nordveit and Djourou a better back up, than Silvestre and Campbell..
Altough not great, no worse than last season..

A lot depends on the Kos.

  197. looked good today but on swallow and all that

would say one more ready made defender like demichelis experianced but also reach wenger one year deals

  198. W.A.T.H says:

Ave if you start a book maybe by the time I’m 100 you might finish it lol

For me this Kos reads the game very well he gets stuck in and isn’t scared to put a foot in or throw himself in the line of fire, he also pretty good in the air. we need at least a player as good as him if not better I like Mertesacker he turns like a cart horse is slow BUT good in the air reads the game well tackles well and has presence……! Like him or similar with the above traits. Djourou is hit and miss as we have no idea how much of the season he will stay fit for and Bartley and Nordveit are untried and may make one decent centre hald between them but again very hit and miss cos we just don’t know.

  199. goonerbegood says:

i like your post but i think ,you put it in a very negative way as if all is doom and gloom at mighty arsenal.
wenger has made us who we are,he looks after the club in great respect and admiration, much less a gentle man and a legend.
true we have suffered in the past to win trophies ,but to the demise of our players ,1 or 2 of them always wanting to leave.thereby needing us to rebuild in the team again.our major factor likewise is tha of injury and i feel wenger would address it once and for all this season.from pre season to emirates cup i think the youngstars are ready to follow suit.the team is bit aggressive this term, they just have to believe and fight together for everygame , as well for the club to look into the squad ,sort out the lack of depth.
wenger is no fool,he knows it himself …instead we should encourage him by standing by him,his methods are bit of that of sane and insane acts which we all see.
it is time we stand behind our club ,we will come good this season and wenger knows what to do.

  202. avenell says:

That’s not fair WATH.. I’d like to think I could finish the book by the time I’m 52. 😉

    Cheers Wath.. enjoy..

  203. avenell says:

Sorry for the delay Hers and Goonerbegood..

Your comments will come straight on now.

Oh and Hers.. caps lock mate .. it puts people off reading your reasoned debate.
