New number 10 and 11, New 9?? New rules….

The boys are in Austria training hard in preparation for tonights friendly. Robin, our new number 10 is yet to join up with the squad, as is our captain. Also missing is Eduardo, our  number 9 who it appears has left us for pastures new. I really hope his career kicks off again and he gets somewhere near back to his best.  Another player who has changed his squad number is Carlos Vela, he will now wear number 11. That just about puts to bed any suggestion that Vela is on the move, good!

But what to make of the now vacant number 9 shirt, will Wenger promote from within, maybe Jay Simpson, Sunu or someone else, will Chamakh or Nikki B now change their squad numbers, OR will we all be stunned by the signing of a new centre forward to fill the shirt?.

Talking of players, Red Arse has kindly provided an idiots guide to the new rules….

From next season the Premier League are introducing the new HGP rules restricting the numbers of players permitted in a first team squad and setting a maximum number of “foreign players” who can be included in the squad. More about the numbers game later.

What’s that all about, you may ask?

O.K. let’s have a look at the background to see how we arrived at these new rules.

Good old Sepp Blatterbum, several years ago, tried to introduce worldwide rule to help protect and develop “Home Grown” football talent. His “big idea”, was, in fact, based on the very understandable desire to protect youngsters from Africa and South America, in particular, being lured by European clubs and then being dumped far from home, if they weren’t good enough.
In addition, he wanted to encourage the opportunities for the development of each nation’s own young players, and reduce the mass movement of other countries’ youngsters.

He and Michel Platinum tried to force clubs into accepting a 6 + 5 rule. This meant each team would have to have 6 home grown players and 5 foreign players in it. Unfortunately for them, this proposal was not acceptable under European Law and was thrown out. Now the Premier League mandarins have proposed their own version of Blatter’s idea, probably to prevent future hassle from FIFA and UEFA.
So what are the numbers then?
Each Premier League club can have a maximum of 25 players over the age of 21 in their first team squad.
There will be a maximum of 17 foreign players over the age of 21.
Therefore clubs can have 8 “home grown players” in their squads.
Each club can also have an unlimited number of players, of any nationality, under the age of 21.

So there it is; Foreign players 17
Home Grown players 8
Maximum Squad size 25

What is the definition of a “home-grown” player?

A home-grown player is one who has been developed by an English or Welsh club for at least three years before reaching the age of 21. The obvious effect of this is that there will be an even greater premium put on the market price of any English player. It will also eventually, it is hoped, improve the quality of the England team, though this is debatable. To give an example of “home-grown” players, over the age of 21, in the current Arsenal squad, would be; Clichy, Mannone, Denilson,Fabregas and Djourou.

Examples of foreign players over 21, would include; Arshavin, Diaby, Nasri and so on. I estimate that Arsenal have 14 or 15 foreign players in the squad at the time of writing. This may change if Arsene buys another one or two players.

When does this new rule take effect?

At 5 p.m. on the last day of the transfer window, each club must supply a list of its first team squad and its composition. The squad can be amended during each of the following transfer windows.
So now you know. What is your view on the possible benefits or problems arising from these rules. Will they cause Arsenal problems? Are they a restriction on clubs’ autonomy, designed to see a “levelling down” in the quality of the top teams?

Have a good day all, enjoy the game later 🙂

  1. rico says:

Morning all, nice early one 🙂

Idiots guide is just for me, not suggesting anyone else is an idiot 😉

  2. Erick says:

Morning Folks nice insight RA atleast me and adam are no longer idiots I think we are good and may be we can add two more players especialy with the sad sad departure of the hitman aka Dudu we owe you mate

  3. Erick says:

Morning Rico I hear Loic may be on his way how much is he worth?

  4. rico says:

Morning Erick, West Ham are about to up their offer to £13M, so we better be quick 😉

  5. Erick says:

I hear he is electric quick mmmh am hoping we can get him but the defence should be priority. The stains have gone out of order and Fifa is doing nothing whats that

  6. Ads says:

What it will hopefully do is level the playing field a bit with the likes of City and Chelsea. It means they can’t fill their squads with 30 million players like they have been doing.

  7. Erick says:

Nice with the FB link have you thought of including the heading of the post Rico 🙂

  8. Johnny says:

I’m pretty sure this Home Grown stuff is not only illegal, it is racist too.

  9. rico says:

I hadn’t Erick, but tomorrow it will be there, thank you 🙂

  10. rico says:

Erick, I am not around Friday – Monday, would be able to put the link on facebook if you have time please??

  11. rico says:

Morning Johnny, it seem wrong in todays world…

  12. rico says:

Ads, it could also see lots of players playing out of position when injuries hit…

ie if City have two 30M players to cover RB, who don’t fit the criteria they may struggle to fill the void with a ‘legal’ player

  13. Erick says:

Sure Rico why not thought you were taking me with you this time not Wath again. Racist lol

  14. rico says:

Ha-ha Erick, no Wath either, he’s still in SA I think… Thanks for looking after FB 🙂

  15. Erick says:

No prob Rico Dudu deal to be concluded today and the Schawzer (spelling) rumour looks to be getting stronger

  16. adam says:

At last, a definitive explanation of the “home-grown” rule. I wonder how it would survive a challenge in the courts? Freedom of movement and to work etc…

  17. adam says:

How about a similar explanation of the financial rules and the date of their introduction as laid out by that beautiful man Platini?

  18. Erick says:

Morning Adam it seems simple enough. You can count on RA to do a piece

  19. rico says:

The Sun have the Scwarzer deal again Erick, like you say it seems to be getting stronger, sadly, but i think he is better than Flappy and Almunia, plus, if he’s going to stay on as coach, then maybe it will be a good deal, if he doesnt cost more than 2M

  20. rico says:

morning adam even i understand the HG rule now… i think 😉

  21. rico says:

Off for a bit, stuff to do sadly 😦

    see you later,

RA, when you arrive later, fab write up and thanks…

  22. Suhail.TV says:

    Morning peeps.. Wengrr..The solitary reaper

  23. Dirty Turkey says:

Loic Remy = new No.9. All done by the weekend. Trust me.

  24. rico says:

Dirty Turkey, how are you so sure??

    Morning STV 🙂

  25. rico says:

Francis Coquelin signs new long-term contract

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that young Frenchman Francis Coquelin has signed a new long-term contract.

  26. Suhail.TV says:

    and cesc.., rico??

  27. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico baby,

Had a nightmare with my laptop again this morning! Grr as Agag would say. I think I have narrowed it down to Norton Security! It’s heading for the chop.

    Morning Erick and Suhail. 🙂

Johnny said earlier that he thought the new rules were racist. Not sure about that. The criterion is age related and in nthe examples given both the Foreign and home grown players are from many different countries.

In this country, we have a very cosmopolitan society and race discrimination will not be tolerated.

  28. rico says:

    cesc STV, what signed??

  29. Red Arse says:

Unfortunately I have to get down tom some work now that my computer is working again.

    See you a bit later.

  30. rico says:

Hi RA, I had dreadful problems with Norton, since switched to mcafee

  31. Suhail.TV says:

    Mcafee is better rico

  32. Dirty Turkey says:

Rico – Im sorry but I cant give you that info but the last time the same guy gave me a heads up on a signing was with Nasri and also Walcott (a week before it even got in the papers), so he isn’t very frequent but he is relaible !

I think I got a bit excited though, it may not be before the weekend but defo before next weekend.

They are apparently just quibling over initial fee’s and add-on’s but it looks like it’ll be somewhere around £8-9m inital, rising to £14m if he wins stuff with us, gets in the national team regularly etc. the usual contractual shit that comes with youngsters and non-regular international players. Nothing Ivan and Arsene cant iron out I’m sure.

He wants to come to us rather than the scouser’s or West Ham who can blame him?

  33. rico says:

DT, i wasn’t asking you for your sauce 😉 😉 i’d never do that, but by the sounds of it, he/she could be on the right path 🙂 Good… thanks DT

  34. rico says:

Much STV, its a bit quiet today and now I have to pop out again 😦 will be back in a couple of hours 🙂

  35. DeiseGooner says:

Loic Remy and a new no9

    Wheres my new no1 keeper?

And the cantrehalf & DM to fill out the no 12 and 13 shirts ?

Is this kid in the frame? – Kara Mbodji from Tromso ?

  36. oliver says:

morning all. thanks for the idiot’s guide rico – clarified a couple of things for me. not much to say this morning, no real news, just continued speculation…

  37. Dirty Turkey says:

Rico – just to add some credibility instead of being an ITK wanker the guys has some dealings with contractual matters. I cant say much more than that as I dont think he’d appreciate me getting him fired! LOL

He also had some rumblings but nothing confirmed – and I stress, nothing confirmed – that Frey is coming to take over the #1 spot from Almunia who is defo heading back to Espana. Take that with a pinch of salt but Remy is nailed on.

Not transfer related but he also told me that Gallas left not because of the 1 year contract issue but instead another falling out with Wenger over how Gallas addresses other senior players in the squad. Think JT’s press conference and still beleivnig he is England captain and you wont be too far wrong.

  38. Kipmonster says:

It’s time us Arsenal fans were not so docile & took some action against Barcelona & their players, FIFA, UEFA & also too our club Arsenal for their hierarchy’s failure to formally complain & show for a change a desire to protect their fans interests instead of their obsession with money & the potentially even more increasingly lucrative return at us fans huge expense, shareholders will get when they eventually sell in the not so distant future.

    See the Facebook group …………………!/group.php?gid=116042895106146

  39. Red Arse says:

I have every sympathy with your views.

Problem I have is thaat Barca’s hierarchy have been appalling but clever.

Getting Cesc’s dad and all their first team players to agitate for his move means there is not really much complaint against Barca directly.

They will contend they cannot control other people and anyway they are just expressing their personal opinions.

You and I know they are lying, but to prove it, legally, is much more difficult.

  40. Red Arse says:

I just hope you are right about Loic. I watched him three times last year and he has potential and is faster than Theo. Fingers crossed. 🙂

  41. Erick says:

Dirty Turkey some info you have there lets see how it goes but we need to finish the transfers early am not holding my breath though 🙂 thanks for the heads up

  42. Erick says:

RA how are you today thanks for the info on new rules

  43. Red Arse says:

Like you I want a big CH. What pee’s me off is Wenger again being passive at best, or pathetically reactive rather than proactive.

He is hanging around waiting for Campbell to stop prostituting himself around to all these other clubs and hope he finally deigns to stay with us.

No thanks. F*** Off. Doesn’t Wenger have any pride?

  44. Red Arse says:

    Hi Erick my friend.

I hope my little contribution made the rules clearer for everyone.

Bit frustrated with my computer last night and this morning. I think Norton is screwing up the system. Rico had a similar problem.

Now I have got behind with my work and I can’t stay and chat with you and everyone. 😦

  45. Erick says:

No problem RA work is important we will vibe later mate take care

  46. DeiseGooner says:

Agree with you on Campbell, Red. He should have said look mate you are getting married in a few weeks, we want you for another season, sign how with these terms or off you go because we really cant be waiting about.

It seems obvious he had Kos nailed on to join from before end of last season. So his thinking must be if Sol signs ill get on with that – Verm, Dhourou, Sol, Kos, Song as backup with Nortveid as last in line.

Its not the way it should be done, especiall;y seeing how injuries meant we had Sol and Silvester starting come end of last season.

  47. rico says:

    afternoon all…

  48. oliver says:

    hi rico

  49. Erick says:

Its Evening for me Rico and Oliver 🙂

  50. oliver says:

hi erick – it is morning for me. coming up on 11 am.

  51. rico says:

Morning, Afternoon and Evening All 🙂

  52. Erick says:

Wow Oliver the universe is funny so what you got for me today hope you got to read Xavi comment he was so out of order the stains are messing with us men

  53. Erick says:

Thank you Rico any news 🙂

  54. agirlaguner says:

RA, I am much impressed by the quality (and quantity) of your posts! 🙂

Hola, everyone. We have to put up with yet another slow news day, and every other player linked to us. Well, the megaphone for the stains is still running off at the mouth though… But are we surprised?

  55. rico says:

No news really Erick, no signings loom 😦

    Yet 😉

  56. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico,

Can’t stay but I was thinking of you ahead of tonights game.

My picture from ATVO was better than I expected. I went into the “my profile” option and chose the 650kbs option for the download speeds rather than the standard 350kbs option.

If you haven’t done this already it might be worth considering as it will give you more pixels for your buck, to coin an Oliver slogan. 🙂

Thing is though, this rubbishy Arsenal online TV is only as good as the broadband line speed you have and how far you are from your local exchange.

Hi Erick and Oliver. Sorry but I have to go again.

Rico, if you are going away for a few days, will the site close down? 😦 If so, don’t go!

  57. agirlagunner says:

It’s 11 pm here… 🙂 All over the world, we are.

  58. Red Arse says:

    Hi Agag,

Just caught your post as I was switching to my work sheets.

I do jabber a lot, but I love chatting to and teasing you guys, and I have a lot to say, even if it is mostly rubbish. 🙂

  59. Red Arse says:

Rico, it’s 16:05 here in sunny Herts! 😉

  60. Erick says:

Howdy RA and Agag the stains are crap and they should sod off Ra busy day for you indeed

  61. rico says:

Its 16:08 here in sunny Berks 😉

  62. Erick says:

Rico is Dirty Turkey credible with the Loic and Frey rumour he/she seems confident

  63. Red Arse says:

My last observation, for the mo’.

I get up each morning at approx 5:45. By which time Agag is going for her lunch, Erick is thinking of his morning toast and coffee, Oliver is snuggling down in the land nod, and you Rico arte turning over for another hours kip.

Put like that, it’s even more weird eh, Erick? 🙂

  64. rico says:

RA, I don’t know what will happen, jj and ave will hopefully keep it going…

  65. rico says:

5.45 RA, i’m often up and about by then 😉

  66. oliver says:

hi erick/rico/agag/ra. read xavi’s comments, of course, and i am not going to work myself up about them. i suggest that those may not be exactly the comments he made – i think it is very likely that the comments were embellished to make them more inflammatory – with the purpose of fueling the media-driven agenda that barca “won’t give up”, “cesc wants out and he wants out now”, and blah blah blah blah blah. i have no doubt that xavi’s acutal comments were the usual irresponsible, unhelpful garbage he is known for. but i also think that the juiciest bits were added after the fact – to further enrage arsenal support. surely we are not surprised by this? i have heard it all before, wake me up when cesc either drops a transfer request (i don’t think he will) or the transfer window closes.

  67. rico says:

agag, re your 4pm, whats wrong with mine 😉

  68. rico says:

oliver, good for Hleb, he’s told cesc to stay 🙂

  69. DeiseGooner says:

    nice t-shirt Eddy –

    Still no official statement from

  70. rico says:

RA, thanks for your earlier re tonights game, i shall probably watch online, if at all, there’s not enough time in my day right now ….

  71. oliver says:

rico, i saw that too. hleb has come out previously saying cesc should not consider a transfer yet – good for hleb, i agree.

  72. rico says:

DG, are useless, so slow in keeping us updated..

  73. DeiseGooner says:

i mean even if theres 1 or 2 things to sort out that are not gonna scupper the deal they should be saying hes agreed to it, just so they are the ones to more or less ‘confirm’ the already confirmed!!

  74. agirlagunner says:

Oh you’re fantastic, rico. 🙂 You already know that. (Plus, you’re a girl, and girls are always fantastic/right/everything good…)

hello, Erick and Oliver. I just feel like “No” is such a short word. Two letters, Catalans, Arsenal have been categorical… and you lot still don’t understand? I suppose Xavi et al. are in the Special Needs classes. 😉

    I’m an evening person. I don’t quite function until 10 am. 😦

  75. Erick says:

RA interesting if you it put like that 🙂 Oliver that where it heading my friend Cesc throwing in a transfer letter thats the only way the transfer will happen

  76. rico says:

    agag 😆 😆

    10am, thats my lunchtime 😉

  77. adam says:

Other clubs buy players, Arsene, it seems, considers them before deciding not to make the move. Anyone spot the difference? We’ve all been here before though haven’t we? Everybody and his uncle knows what we need. Arsene tells us that this year we have the funds to buy the players we need. And we wait….and wait. Suddenly he says he is confident in the players we have and thinks we will do well this year. We haven’t and unless we address those areas and quickly I see another long season of heartbreak stretching before us. I sincerely hope I am wrong, honestly I do but experience is a bitter pill where today’s Arsenal are concerned. But there is a different wind blowing this close season I feel and I think that the pressures on Wenger and the board could become truly intolerable if we fail again. I’m not like the appalling people on another site who are just dying for Wenger to fail again to give their lives validity but that old deja-vu bites a bit deeper every day when i read that Arsene is “considering” making a move for this or that player. Surely he knows who he wants! Or then again, perhaps he doesn’t actually want anybody.

  78. oliver says:

hello agag. erick, i do not think he will submit a transfer request – i would not be surprised if he has people advising him (perhaps his pops) to do just that, but i suspect he will not take that step – there seems to be a growing sense on all side that a transfer request is the only thing that may break the impasse. and arsenal still have the option to turn down such a request – whether that action would be in anyone’s interests is highly debatable, but not necessarily the central point here. i agree with the consensus that cesc, under ideal conditions (straight-up between the two teams, no perception, playing time, or other issues to consider) would prefer a transfer to barca.

where i differ with the consensus is in that i think he still loves arsenal and would be more than happy to continue playing for us. i will say from personal experience that cesc is not the only person to have conflicting emotions – i still think he is a professional and can lead this team as a highly effective captain, giving his all for us – and i concede i am in a distinct minority with this view as well. further, i think cesc knows that barca’s low-ball offer (and continued low public valuation) have put arsenal in a difficult position – to lie down and let him go on barca’s terms will open both cesc and arsenal to a huge fan backlash, and rightly so.

i think he knows barca are trying to get this done exclusively on their terms, and he will not force arsenal into a corner, as he may see it similar to me – arsenal the only loser if a transfer happens under the present conditions. i think cesc would prefer a transfer to barca – but only under conditions that are mutually acceptable to all parties. barca themselves have poisoned the current atmosphere beyond belief.

as always, i will caveat the above by saying that is how i see this – i have no special insight into the thought process of any of the principles and acknowledge that i may be 180 degrees off-base. if that proves to be the case, i will deal with it then. for now, rosell/xavi/media will not make my mind up for me.

  79. agirlagunner says:

Haha, rico. I have my first cup of coffee at 9 am or thereabouts while lamenting the state of my workdesk.

So the van der Wiel deal is said to have “collapsed”. Right. As if it ever even began. 🙂

  80. rico says:

adam, i think we all worry deep down that come the end of the transfer window it will be same old same old but that is because its been that way for so long…

i am going to remain confident that we will get another CH, GK and probably a striker to replace Eduardo…

if wenger fails to get at least the defence sorted out, then he can find another club …

  81. rico says:

VDW deal has collapsed between Ajax and Bayern agag, not us..

  82. rico says:

Shakhtar Donetsk have announced the signing of Croatian striker Eduardo from Arsenal.

    Eduardo is a Croatia international

Eduardo, who never recovered his form after a horrific double leg break in February 2008, is believed to have moved to Ukraine for around £6 million.

A statement on the club’s official website read: ”Today on 21 July FC Shakhtar have signed a Brazilian-born Croatian forward Eduardo Da Silva from Arsenal London on a 4-year contract being anticipated by all the international media.

”All the details were agreed tonight at Donbas Arena in Donetsk. Within the nearest time the newcomer will be introduced to Ukrainian media representatives as well as to the Pitmen fans.”

He leaves the Emirates having scored 20 goals in 67 appearances for the Gunners

  83. oliver says:

let us not forget that different statements have different audiences. many of the recent statements of of camp nou may be intended to appease barca supporters who expect cesc to transfer this summer, and shift the “blame” for that not happening on intransigent arsenal. i am confident they also keep yapping to continue to try and turn arsenal supporters against cesc – i thought that was a goal of theirs from the very first minute, and nothing has changed my opinion. if they can drive a wedge between arsenal/supporters and cesc, they can “show” cesc that he is “really not appreciated at arsenal” and “why give them your loyalty”. never forget that talk is all it is…

  84. Erick says:

True Adam I can’t argue with that he may also not buy a keeper after the agent of samir from Udinese claimed that Arsenal told him they are not interested in a keeper

  85. oliver says:

i see the eduardo transfer to shakhtar donetsk is official now, as per the signing club. perhaps is stepping aside to let them break the news, as he is joining them.

  86. rico says:

Erick, we may not be interested in a keeper because one is about to sign 😉

  87. agirlagunner says:

hello, adam, plenty of feelingly felts, I see.

oliver, I can’t see YKW handing in a transfer request either; i certainly hope he’s better than that. But his heart is not in Arsenal as before; and that is very telling.

  88. adam says:

rico. Keep telling me that through the blog. I am afraid to think positively because I have been disappointed so many times before and I doubt I am alone in that. Friends and family that go to watch Arsenal with have been telling me for at least 3 years that Arsene’s time has passed and I have maintained a stubborn defence of him citing the usual stuff… always in the CL etc.. but I really want to win something now and the squad ,as it stands today, is not good enough. If nothing else, a goalkeeper MUST be bought. Sod Schwartzer. He isn’t World class. Buy a top goalkeeper for christ sakes. Buy another central defender who is over 6 feet 2 inches and buy CM strength, not some weakling who is going to keep getting knocked off the ball like Denilsen. Our weakness in this area drives me barmy. It is embarrassing.

  89. oliver says:

agag, i have seen or heard nothing from cesc to indicate his heart is not with arsenal – that is the funamental point we disagree on. his not denying the speculation is what many cite as his heart no longer being with arsenal, but i would suggest that, as i believe he loves both clubs, he is unwilling to say anything that will directly sway events either way, but may want to see how things play out.

he has not stabbed us in the back – if he does, i will have a go at him, but he has not done so yet. i understand that his silence at times is incovenient and frustrating for us, but consider he has not come out and said i want to leave for barca right now – i imagine they want those words out of him just as much as we want the opposite (no barca this summer).

  90. oliver says:

final thought, and i think i may have said this recently: “we do not see things as they are, we see them as we are” (anais nin)

  91. Erick says:

Oliver Cesc wants to be at Barca that you can’t deny in his mind he is already there the transfer is what is standing on his way

  92. Red Arse says:

Back again for 5 mins. 🙂

Rico, with all this chat about Cesc, maybe this would be a good time to release my masterpiece on the Cesc story to the world! 🙂

I could become famous, write a screen play, have my choice of all the keepers in the world. Oh such dreams!

Or you might want to wait until JJ takes over.;)

Adam, reading your comment, I identified with every word. I genuinelt believe that Arsene is the greatest manager we have ever had, but like you, my loyalty does get stretched sometimes when so many are against him.

I don’t think we know the half of what he has had to deal with in regard to our crap Board of infighting directors.

The knives were out in the Boardroom from the moment Fizman stabbed David Dein ( a true fan) in the doo dah!.

  93. rico says:

Bloody good idea, it can go up tommorrow RA, i had a grey moment and forgot that one 😦

adam, i will do my best 🙂

hoping that my absence for a few days see us sign a couple of players 🙂

  94. agirlagunner says:

oliver, I disagree. He hasn’t got his head screwed on right, and his heart’s not in London. Otherwise, as in the past, he’d have said “I’m staying.”

He hasn’t stabbed us in the back, and why should he? We made him.

  95. rico says:

oliver, i really admire your view about cesc, sadly though, i can’t share it 😦

  96. Red Arse says:

I am sorry that I did not thank you earlier for the compliment about my posts. (still not fishing for compliments mind you).

I thought you were referring to my copious “comments”. 🙂

Sometimes when I am not too busy and things are quiet here, I go on 2 or 3 other sites and chat on all of them at the same time. 🙂 It is fascinating to learn about the totally different “feel” of the sites, and the need to change the manner of my comments.

This site is by far the best, which is a genuinely well meant compliment to Rico and JJ in particular. 😉

Anyway, a belated “thank you”. 🙂

  97. oliver says:

erick, sure i can deny it. what makes you so certain that he wants to be at barca? an agenda-driven media? the constant player spoutings about his dna, how he tells them every day it is only fcb for him? spoutings which sound a bit more desperate than before? what makes you so certain that what i suggest is not closer to reality? that he would prefer a transfer to barca, will do nothing to force the issue under the present circumstances, loves arsenal and will happy to lead our team out as captain this coming season?

i think some are overlooking that fact that i agree with the popular major premise: that cesc would, in fact, prefer a transfer to barca. i qualify that with a minor premise that cesc will not countance a transfer to barca under terms that are clearly so unfavorable to arsenal. i add the further minor premise that cesc still loves arsenal, wants to win silverware with our club, will be happy to stay here and fight our cause and will do everthing he can to lead our club to success while still here.

if i had access to cesc’s inner thoughts, you may rest assured that i would confirm/deny his feelings to you as soon as i could. but as i do not, the suggestion i cannot deny that he is already there in his mind is somewhat unreasonable – and unrealistic.

who knows what he really thinks? i certainly don’t. but i am confident that i know what fc barcelona think – they want a transfer on their terms, and they will say anything, do anything, put forth any perception that will help them get what they want!

  98. Red Arse says:

    Are you here tomorrow?

  99. oliver says:

agag and rico, noted. and i completely respect your opinions. the way i see it, you have just as good a chance of being correct in your assessments as i do. as with most cases, reality is most likely somewhere between the two views.

cesc can make a liar of me with one sentence – i don’t think he will, but i continue to be aware that i may be completely misreading this…

  100. rico says:

RA, first thing but hope to be heading off to the coast by lunchtime…

  101. rico says:

oliver, cesc can never make you a liar, all he can do is dissapoint you…. i think similar to agag, the lack of his comment about staying makes me think his heart has gone…

  102. Erick says:

Oliver seems your holding firm but if Cesc stay this will be the last season with us. What makes me so sure that he want to leave is the fact that he has no come out and declared his position on the matter he wants a win win situation

  103. Red Arse says:

Consider this; in all the shenanigans about Cesc the duststorm that has been created somewhat clouds the issue, and the reality, surely, is all the hot air expended has had the effect of unting the gooners fans behind the club.

In the meantime the Club’s outlay now that Eduardo has gone for £6m (and his salary), has meant that Wenger’s outlay, so far has been; the Salary for Chamakh; £8m + salary for Kos; less Dudu, as above. In other words Arsene has spent next to sod all. If Campbell deigns to return, Wenger will not buy a CH. The transfer of Schwarzer for approx £3m will mean he has got away with fooling the fans all over again!

Not me! I will never forgive him if he tries this! 😦 😦

  104. Red Arse says:

I should have typed “uniting” not “unting”, obviously. 🙂

Rico, in case I don’t get the opportunity later, can I wish you a v. happy few days hols, and hurry back we will all miss you. 😉

  105. Red Arse says:

Got to go guys and gals,

15 mins to finish this flipping spreadsheet, then set up ATVO.

Night night to all, good afternoon Oliver, evening Erick, and it’s almost time to get up Agag! 😉

  106. agirlagunner says:

oliver, we’ll agree to disagree about YKW. But frankly, I think we deserve better from the captain of our team than such display of “commitment”. 🙂 😉

If he had been less effusive about his love for Arsenal blah blah blah in the past; his return to Camp Nou on an accelerated basis would not have been as unwelcome… But seeing as he was the one with the sweeping declarations and grand gestures, it just reeks of ick.

    RA, you’re most welcome. 🙂

  107. oliver says:

rico/erick/agag/ra, thanks for the all the comments and feedback. perhaps that should have been a post, but it was in response to another’s comment.

we will continue to see things differently, so let us see how this plays out. as erick points out, if cesc is not transferred, there is the distinct possiblity that he may be transferred next season. i will qualify that by saying that is not necessarily a given. i fully expect barca to increase the pressure, but i firmly believe any transfer will have to occur under conditions that are mutually acceptable for all parties. i think our club will overlook the yapping and jawing from barca if fair value is offered, and arsenal’s player situation allows (a current player proving he can step in to cesc’s role). if these conditions exist, i can see where a transfer may be quickly completed.

one other thing – when cesc eventually transfers to barcelona may well depend upon how the season goes. as unlikely as it looks at the moment, what if arsenal should win the league and come tantalizingly close to winning the european cup? if we get that close, who is to say cesc would not want other crack at lifting that “holy grail” with arsenal? i think how next season goes will play a big part in what happens during the summer.

ra, i get what you are saying about arsene – i suggest that we are fooling ourselves. i do not recall arsene being specific about what he would spend. he did say he would bring players in – he has brought a couple in already, with more to possibly come. the anti-arsene brigade would like us to focus on the amounts he does not spend, while i would prefer to focus on the players. if they are quality and can give us what we need, is the amount of money he spends really that important? and let me countenance that by saying i am not an akb – arsene frustrates me too, and has made more than his share of mistakes. but sometimes i think people are too ready to beat him with this stick, when we should be focusing on quality. spending megabucks does not always guarantee value – anyone think man city have gotten value in many of their deals?

i see that has announced the eduardo transfer. i doubt anything sinister here, probably just arsenal allowing the buying club (shakhtar) the privilege of officially breaking news of the transfer.

  108. raif says:

sad to see Dudu leave, i still think he could have made somthing of him self at arsenal but a added mix of the style of this league, wengers system and/or not getting a decent run out & injuries made him leave

    big big shame..

but i wonder who will get the number 9 shirt now.

  109. rico says:

Til tomorrow RA, thanks again for the post 🙂

oliver, very good point about the ‘buying club’ – we know we would like to hear who we signed first..

    Hi raif

  110. raif says:

    Heloooo Rico 🙂

i feel the force is flowing through me and im sensing we will make 2 more signings soon 🙂

  111. rico says:

😆 raif, i think three now that Dudu has gone

  112. Suhail.TV says:

    Hello all..
    back after a journey..

no9 for almunia raif. He was the top scorer last season (though in his own net..)

  113. raif says:

i actually think Vela and Jay Simpson will get their chance this season. so i dont think we will sign another striker. even though i would like to so we have more numbers when the knocks start coming about.

Auhail, Big All can take Big run and jump off a Steep Hill 😉

  114. Suhail.TV says:

    Rico.., gone to sleep??

  115. agirlagunner says:

have fun, rico! Come back at once. Don’t do anything I won’t. 🙂 🙂 Good night, RA, oliver, Weeds, Adam.

raif, I have successfully avoided any reference to Dudu (Yes, Denial is not just a river in Egypt), and his abbreviated spell in our kit, but your comment is staring me in the face, and I’ll take to bed that sad, sad thought. 😦

  116. raif says:

agirlagunner – a Gold Star is on its way to you 🙂

    im expecting another signing soon.

  117. agirlagunner says:

Wake me up when we’ve signed Fernando Torres. Or one of the Dutch… 😉

Yawn. I am off. Night, raif, STV. 🙂 🙂

  118. JonJon says:

    evening chaps and chapesses..

    nice post

dudu def gone then?? remy to be no 9?? great..

so wheres our number 1, CB and CM??

  119. raif says:

agirlagunner – haha Torress, he would be a waste of money. his already lost his legs. his fast becoming another Owen with them Injuries,,

    But nighty Night 🙂

  120. rico says:

raif, i really hope simpson gets a chance, he’s no frills, no spills centre forward, just what we lack…

  121. rico says:

night agag, see you in a few days, and thanks 🙂

  122. raif says:

    hello JonJ..

ive not seen this Remy play but people say his good. but i really dont trust any france players that seem to be coming out of that country now days.

im eager to see whos going to be our new Keeper and Next Centre Back

  123. rico says:

    STV, 😆 re Almunia…

  124. JonJon says:

    hey raify/ricoliciousness..

im the same…dont want any frenchmen they are all shite..

wouldnt complain if we got him as well as the defensive players we need and needed years ago but if we go into new season having signed 2 strikers and one cb only i’ll be pissed off

  125. rico says:

i’m beginning to not want spanish either, i would like a few more dutch, german and english …

  126. raif says:

the thing is with wenger is that he cant help himself and get attacking players all the time. im worried we might start the season without a new keeper,

one guy ive always wanted to have since 2004 is bastian schweinsteiger,

  127. JonJon says:

    id go with that rico

  128. JonJon says:

    bastians class..

so is ozil, lahm and mueller..

  129. oliver says:

    night agag.

  130. JonJon says:

    is anyone watching the friendly??

  131. Red Arse says:

    Hi JJ,

    Half time and mixed feelings.

TV looks a little rusty, Theo looks like well ….. theo!

Nasri looks excellent. I know it is pre-season but some of the defensive stuff is …… crap. Same, same. Oh dear! 😦

  132. rico says:

VDV, VDW and the dutch keeper and i’d be ok jj, maybe throw in Mertesacker and ozil, then id be over the moon 🙂

  133. raif says:

    i aint.. i cant find a link.

i hope Nasri takes that kick in the teeth he got from the french and bucks up his ideas this season

  134. JonJon says:

theo the one trick pony huh? and he cant even get that right..

nasris got game but doesnt do it enough..this is a big season for him hes gotta step up..third year now and that potential has got to turn into consistency..

  135. raif says:

Mertesacker id take any day. i was watching one game germany was playing and all i hear was

    Mertesacker this

    Mertesacker that

    Mertesacker Mertesacker Mertesacker

  136. Red Arse says:

Quick summary. Nordveit, Traore, Premier League? Forget it.

    Ping Pong? Naive, and overpowered.

    TV and Djourou? Hmmmmm iffy.

    Theo? Well ….. ?

    Arshavin? Sodding about.

    Young Jack. Excellent.

Chamakh ….. sort of O.K., doesn’t light my fire.

Nasri, as I said really good.

    Got to go.

  137. JonJon says:

i bet nasris glad he didnt go..

they all looked a right set of tits..

  138. raif says:

Jonj HAHA.. to right they looked like tits,

anyways guys im off to watch some programs with the missus

    speak to you soon 🙂

  139. rico says:

the game is on iraqi football…

  140. JonJon says:

    cheers RA

raif mertezackers slow and turns like a tanker but hes an awesome defender..does the basics and dont mess about doing flashy touches just sees the ball and goes for it and doesnt care who he takes out trying to get it..

dont know if he would fit in with our style though..his lack of pace would catch him out cos we play so high and wenger wont change the system..

we cant dont matter who we buy cos the defence will always be exposed as long as the midfield all charge forward and dont give a toss about getting back..

tv and gallas were class last season but the goals against made them look shit…it wasnt was due to the fact what ive mentioned above and also a shit keeper

  141. rico says:

    take care raif..

  142. JonJon says:

    see ya raify boy

    lansburys got another..

  143. rico says:

    i like lansbury, don’t know if i’ve mentioned that before 😉 😉

Guys/Gals, gotta go and walk the muttleys, see you tommorrow….

jj, RA has done a post for tomorrow, i’ll post it but will be off around lunchtime 🙂

be good all and stay safe …

    nighty night

  144. Red Arse says:

You may have gone, but final assessment.

    Chesney ……. No action.

    Gibbs …….. Good
    Kos ,,,,,,,, Sort of good.
Lansbury …….. don’t get me going!
Eastmond ……… would be brilliant for Jack Straw’s Castle. Crap.
    Rosicky ….. V. Good
JET ….. Absolutely excellent. Star in the making!

Others, same as in first half, or so anonymous I can’t recall them!! 🙂

Night JJ, if you are still there.

  145. DeiseGooner says:

Austrian Training Camp says it all because thats all it is. A couple of weeks to get fitness levels up and that includes the games. Why make anything else of these games than that?
