The Transfer Market Myth And Koscielny Will Be Our Only CB Signing.

Dont you just hate it when you’re in the middle of a debate over the signing of players and somebody resorts to the ‘This is not Championship manager’ line? As much as it irritates me it really does make me giggle..Are these people for real?

Now I know that its only a game but wanting Wenger to sign players isn’t living in a false world as some people try to make out..Its wanting Wenger to use that cunning little device that has been part and parcel of football for years called the transfer market..

Now for those of you who didn’t know, the transfer market is something that has existed in football a long time and not just in a computer game..Amazing isn’t it? It’s where all the managers get their heads together and decide who’s for sale and who isn’t and for the right money you can take another teams best players..They even have set times for transfers called the window. These windows happen in the summer and in the new year and managers love them because it means they can strengthen their squad..

I’m sorry, but wanting Wenger to spend £30 million on new players is not playing a game, nor will it turn us into Leeds or Portsmouth. The transfer window is not a myth and for a club that makes profits like we do, using it to our advantage from time to time would not be living in a fantasy world..

Which brings me onto my next point, transfers..

Does anyone else think that after signing Koscielny, Wenger wont be looking to sign another CB? After almost certainly losing 4 CB’s on free transfers, most fans I know wanted us to sign a minimum of 2 CB’s. One for back up and one major signing to make the fans drool. I was hoping that Koscielny would be the back up and a household name would follow him through the door and be Vermalaen’s partner next season. Although Wenger has stated recently that we are looking at another defensive player, I believe it wont be a CB and Kos is our lot..

What gives it away is the fact he has been given the number 6 jersey means Wenger sees him as more than just back up. He will be TV’s partner next season and with TV, Kos, JD, Song, Bartley and Nordtveit, Wenger will see it that he has enough. Kos to replace Gallas and Bartley and Nordtveit promoted from within to replace Sol and Fishface..

If Wenger had eyes for a more well-known CB to be first choice then why give Kos the 6 jersey and not the other guy? We wont see another CB and if we do he wont be better than Kos.

Whether he’s good enough I guess we wont know until we see him play, but I’m not happy about the prospect of seeing another unknown with potential filling a vital position in our squad..

Its world cup final day today guys so lets cheer RvP’s boys on and hope once its all over Wenger pulls his socks up and sorts the squad out before pre season begins..

  1. JonJon says:

im a bit rusty.. 😉 but i had to get that off my chest.. and its got jj written all over it 😉

  2. rico says:

The title says its yours jj 🙂 🙂

now i best read the rest 😉

  3. Watsax says:

Wenger doesn’t care about squad numbers so I wouldn’t read into that, though it’s not to say I disagree with u… He will not sign any named player that is for sure, really hope he does get a keeper tho, that will be the lot…

  4. rico says:

you miserable negative old toad you jj.. 😉 😉

  5. Breezy says:

I think we’ll sign or at attempt to sign Marquez from Bankruptalona (I stole that from the Ladyarse blog). He’ll be able to cover both CB and DM. And to be honest I think we could do a lot worse. BTW you don’t think Wenger could be referring to the new keeper we’re bringing in the defensive signing? Oh Wenger and his riddles.

  6. Erichero says:

Wenger has already said that he will sign another defensive player – I don’t see why there’s a reason to doubt it, when we obviously need 4 solid CB’s.

I’m guessing that Wenger has been keeping an eye on the situation with Campbell and Gallas … playing his cards. As yet Gallas has not signed elsewhere, although it seems clear by now that Sol will go.

Hang tight for now, the story isn’t finished yet.

  7. JonJon says:

    im a truth sayer rico… 😉

  8. rico says:

i dont believe numbers are an issue anymore jj, maybe mertesacker prefers number 32 😉

  9. rico says:

morning to those joining Avenell Road today, good to see you all…

  10. rico says:

jj, the bit about the window is the truth 😉

  11. rico says:

Talking of transfers, i heard a rumour yesterday that Theo could be going on loan to Milwall…..

  12. A says:

Gallas was released, he’s gone, and that’s done and dusted. We know we’ve offered for Jagielka despite Koscielny always coming in, so we know that we’re after someone else as well. We will get someone but whoever we get won’t be established as such, there will be three (four if you count JD) young talented centre backs all competing for the two spots.

Even if Sol signed he wouldn’t be one of the four, he’d be in the rotation, but as a 5th centre back I’m sure.

The reason Koscielny got the number 6 shirt is because it was free and he was the centre back who signed first, that’s it!

Wenger doesn’t assign shirts, when players sign they get a choice of the shirts that are free if they are potentially a first team player.

If Joe Cole signed now he would probably take VP’s 11 shirt if he’s going to get 10, but that wouldn’t mean that he was first choice ahead of Arshavin, or even Theo

  13. Matt says:

didn’t the number 6 shirt come from senderos? And was he a first team player?

  14. AJ says:

Matt has it right. The logic and deduction in this article is worse than tabloid speculation.

  15. kc says:

Senderos used to wear the #6, and he was a starter for how long again?

  16. ED says:

we’ve been heavily linked with that rafik halliche guy for around £4mish, wouldn’t be surprised if we signed him as backup, i think wenger must rate kos very highly, to bring him straight in to the top 4 prem, champs league etc, the transition is big, lets hope he thrives like vermaelen has. also schwarzer maybe still on the cards, thats another £4mish, would be happy with that, then i’d like another holding mid, if clichy is included in a swap i’d like an older experienced player until gibbs is ready.

  17. JonJon says:

senderos was seen as a first teamer until wenger realised he was shit..

  18. rico says:

he didn’t always wear number 6 though did he jj?

trouble is, for the last five seasons we have heard wenegr say we will buy and he doesn’t, so him say we will buy is a bit like peter and the wolf…

my theory though is that this summer the wolf gets his man, I can’t see wenger going into a new season with just Kos and TV in the squad, he won’t rely on JD as he’s been out for so long, he will need time…

yes, song can step in but then that rips the midfield open so he won’t do that either imho…

i wouldn’t be at all surprised to see another good CH in and a freebie old boy like Sol…

  19. JonJon says:

wenger saying hes signing another defensive player doesnt mean its a cb

it could be a fb, gk, cm..

  20. JonJon says:

    rico..

he will see JD as a new signing…

wengers done it with rosicky, edu and rvp..he doesnt replace them he just waits until they come back from injury..

  21. rico says:

I don’t see him getting a midfielder jj as he trusts Denilson and Diaby and then Eastmond, unless of course Clichy wants to swap with Melo, but I doubt that, he is very happy where he is…

dont get me wrong, i wish he would sign a CM and CH 🙂

    oh, and a keeper 🙂

  22. Kiri says:

Excellent blog today. I thk we’ll sign melo & swp. If I’m not mistaken he sees song as a CB. So melo to cover song in middle & swp on wing. Of fab goes, maybe gourcuff. But I wouldn’t be suprised if we lose fab. & he tries to promote within. Not sure bout schwarzer. Why not go for riena????

  23. rico says:

jj, you and i will differ on this until the window closes, too long he has left it to buy, this summer he will imho 😉

  24. rico says:

plus, he never identifies players or positions to the media 😉

  25. JonJon says:

    thanks kiri

if he signs another CM he will defo see song as a backup CB..

    and reinas a good option..

liverpool are falling apart..torres and reina are the only players i would take and torres is out of the question

  26. ED says:

i’d love for us to sign khedira, i’ve rated him for a while, he was fairly inconsistent at the beginning of the season with Stuttgart but he’s proven himself especially at the world cup, he has one year left on his contract, would partner song nicely, he’s well balanced, can attack fairly well but defends brilliantly. Stuttgart reportedly want €15m for him, surely a bargain. i’d be surprised though, cause he must be attracting interest from alot of other top sides.

  27. DeiseGooner says:

Trying to suss out what Wenger is going to do is a non starter. He sometimes says more that he acts on and does more than he says. Personally i dont see Kos getting no6 as a statement of not getting another defender. I do see it as him being as being in the running for a starting berth. I feel we may see someone of the same pricetag come in to make it 4 centrehalves but that he will give Djourou and Vermaelen the first shot at making a partnership at the centre of defence. Whether Djourou is over his injuries after the ops hes had is another matter. Kos will get time to bed in with someone like Jagkielka/Vertoghen who can play DM coming in too. Then maybe a keeper and thats your lot. We wont get more than 4 new players in unless a few more leaves and he takes a shot on a free like Joe Cole. Wenger says it himself, more that 3 changes to the first team starters in one go can cause too much disruption.

  28. le foxe says:

Wouldn’t worry too much, wenger is just waiting for gallas and sol to sort themselves out, along with cesc…my guess is he already has the deals lined up but is doing his usual balancing act.

  29. K-TR7 says:

Hi all!excellent post.you’re quite frank…today is the final and if rvp wants to emulate messi how about curling in a winner tonight?rvp has the brain of a playmaker, the feet of a winger, the shot of a cannon but the limbs of ledley king…if only sneijder and robben saw him as a teammate…

  30. JonJon says:

    khediras played well..

dont know that much about him though.

  31. K-TR7 says:

I remember djourou keeping drogba under wraps a few years ago at the bridge in a game essien equalised via a piledriver…cesc and flamini bossed the mf that day.i think if djourou has a good preseason he may start beside TV…

  32. K-TR7 says:

JJ Khedira is a good player and is worth a short.he would do well in the diaby role…

  33. ED says:

i’m not sure about jd, he’s put in some good performances over the years, he’s fairly tall, i think he’d partner tv nicely but we’ll have to wait and see you never know koscielny could be an amazing player, no ones really seen him play before have they???

  34. Erick says:

Jj you did it again the article is typical but I wouldn’t be suprised if we don’t get a center half either Aw is complicated like that 🙂 Howdy folks

  35. JonJon says:

robin is about to reach his destiny today and achieve his status as a world class striker..

all the focus is on torres but rvp will be the one who shines..

and we’ll have another world cup winner at arsenal once again..

cesc can sod off..its all about robin now

  36. emiratesstroller says:

Numbers are not important. Chamakh who is likely to be a starter next season was allocated 29 and previously Arshavin a regular team starter was given 23.

Wenger must buy another centre back, because the only other option is Djourou who not played first team football for one and a half years on account of his injury
problems. The only other back up on books is Song.

Nordveit and Bartley may be promising young players, but I doubt that Wenger
will take a risk with either of them. He will start off including them in his squad
like Wilshire and Szczesny, but send them out on loan to gain first team experience with another PL Club.

  37. ED says:

i agree jj come on RVP, everyone knows the spanish are a bunch of cheating diving twats.

  38. JonJon says:

    ed..

im not sure about JD either..hes alot like diaby in many ways that he has all the attributes to be a top player in his position but cant get consistent and cant stay fit..

kos could be top class..like u say weve never seen him play he could turn out to be the next adams or the next cygan but why are we taking that chance when the defence is under scrutiny anyway..we should be signing players who will make the fans and other teams think fucking hell arsenal mean business this season..

  39. Red Arse says:

    Hi JJ, Rico and Guys,

    Loved the post. Excellent!

I read that Wenger had made a £4m bid for Eduardo the Portugal keeper. Apparently it was too late as he had already signed for Braga.

Too late? Our Arsene? Surely not! He is like the US 7th Cavalry, in old cowboy films, never quite got there in time. As in “too late”.

  40. rico says:

    Hi Erick, KTR7 and all…

i wouldn’t be surprised if JD is pushed into midfield..

  41. ED says:

the eduardo thing was all BS i thought.

  42. rico says:

    RA, morning to you 🙂

no-one saw my Theo to Milwall rumour then, came from a milwall fan…

  43. JonJon says:

    emirates stroller

wenger gave the opportunitys to denilson diaby rambo in 2008 when we let gilberto hleb flamini and diarra go..

why wont we do it now??

wengers proved on so many occasions that he promotes from within..

i wouldnt be suprised that wenger relies on his kids again rather than buying the players we need..

  44. JonJon says:

    RA 😆

  45. JonJon says:

i seen it rico but its a joke..

theo cost wenger 12mil he wont loan him, sell him, or drop him..

he plays until he gets good which could be never..

  46. JonJon says:

i hope schwartzer is all bullshit..

    hes another almunia..

we need players better than what we already have..filling the squad up with average players doesnt improve anything..

  47. Red Arse says:

    Ed,

The Eduardo rumour could be BS, but it might point to JJ being right. The defensive position Arsene is looking to cover might not be a CB.

My opinion, for what it is worth? No extra CB.

Arsenal wouldn’t spend £10m on Kos as a backup. Spending that sort of money would have brought a tear to Arsene’s eyes. 🙂

  48. DeiseGooner says:

i reckon the Eduardo thing was all hype hoping to get a bidding war for him as the club had no option but to accept the buy out clause price, and he had a decent world cup so they thought hhhmmmm Arsenal need a keeper so wel drop a ‘story’ they might be interested.

  49. Red Arse says:

    JJ,

All the latest rumours have Arsene looking at GK’s.

Handimandy the Slovenia keeper is pretty good but at 25 yrs old would massively disrupt our other Keepers around that age.

  50. Erick says:

Rico millwal 🙂 🙂 RA and Ktr7 howdy good people

  51. Red Arse says:

    DG,

Again you could be right, but you are rationalising a hypothetical thought process. (O.K. I do it all the time too.) 🙂

Agents, I am sure, do try that tactic all the time, but sometimes by the law of averages, it must be true!

  52. rico says:

How do we know he wouldn’t spend, thats the problem, some like me ‘think’ he will while others ‘think’ he won’t, i’m off to get me a fence to sit on 😉 😉

  53. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

You mind those splinters in your bum.

Erick said he would help get them out though! 😉

  54. JonJon says:

    RA..

    i like that handonyourbumovic..

ive rated him a while but to be honest i dont care about disrupting the other Gks

we need a top class one now and if the other keepers like cheseny are good enough they will force their way in..

if we sign an average stop gap and chesney turns out to be like fabianski then we are back where we started..

  55. rico says:

My fence has cusions RA, unlike Cescs…

    😉

  56. Red Arse says:

    Erick,

Every time I was here yesterday, you weren’t. When I had to leave, you were on!

    Que sera, sera. 🙂

  57. rico says:

Some good news, on the afc website, the injury list is down to one… Ramsey 🙂

  58. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

Speaking of Cesc, I became a bit exasperated reading some comments on another site regarding the why’s and wherefore’s of Cesc not speaking up about his future.

What cannot be forgotten is that getting his family and the whole Barca team to tell the world he wants to go to Barca could result in that happening.

The result would be that Cesc would get a great big fat payoff of the remaining 5 years of his contract.

Thank you Senor, I keep shtum!!

  59. Erick says:

Whatever will be will be RA indeed a true scholar gues the Cocktails are getting the better of your 🙂 Fences with cushion 🙂 anything for you Rico 😉

  60. JonJon says:

    wenger wont spend.. 😉

we’ll sign three average players at a cost of 20mil and wenger will sell cesc make a massive profit and promote half the reserves and say we are ready..

then at the end of the season wenger will say 4th place is a trophy and we have lots of money and we have identified who we need…

we’ll sign another 3 nobodies and sell robin..

its a neverending cycle and has been for years..

whats to say its going to be different??

  61. JonJon says:

    RA

thats exactley what henry did to us..

we sold him for 16mil but only saw about 2 mil of it cos we gave henry the rest as a pay off..

he robbed us blind and although hes a legend i’ll never forgive him for that..

  62. rico says:

    🙂 Erick, thank you

  63. Red Arse says:

    JJ,

I agree with you about the need for a class GK.

What I meant about the age of Handymandykissmybumski as compared to Flappy and Mannyone, is that it would deter our frugal Frenchman. 🙂

  64. Erick says:

JJ am hoping the current 1st team won’t get injured because we have not signed a great player for a while the first team I feel is our only hope 😦

  65. JonJon says:

over the years the number of world class players at arsenal has diminished cos we sell them all..

and replace them every time with somebody nobody has never heard of..

    it wont change..

  66. rico says:

jj, but that has to change one day, maybe this will be our day….

i’m not fussed if they are nobodies either if im honest – big names meant diddly squit in my eyes, i’d rather a player who wants to play for Arsenal and who will fight for every ball until the whistle goes, one whos prepared to shed blood for our club.

I actually hope we dont get some over hyped, over paid, over egoed player….

  67. Red Arse says:

    JJ,

So far we have spent £10m on Kos and excluding salaries, which frankly I don’t think Arsene does, we will spend maybe another £4m (ish) on a GK and that will be it.

Chammy and J Cole (I doubt we will get him) are freebies and so capital outlay is likely to be £14m.

Salaries will cancel out with the guys joining/leaving, in my calculation.

  68. Erick says:

Thats why am not feeling the Cesc thing JJ DNA my foot we take risk then other team get the pay off I just want him gone I can’t stand another transfer window of those stains 🙂

  69. rico says:

i’m off for a bit, catch you guys later…

  70. DeiseGooner says:

On on the same page as you there Rico. A player that knows his job and is willing to fight for the club. A known player is less of a risk in our eyes because we know what they can offer (if they can fit into the team) but surely the second most important aspect after football ability if the fit to the team. Thats where our scouts have to really do their homework – maybe Vermaelen is suited to having a player like Djourou or Kos next to him?? Maybe just maybe the whole will be greater than the sum of their parts

  71. JonJon says:

jagiekla isnt a nobody, neither is cahill..they fight for every ball and a darn good players but cos they cost that little bit extra wenger goes and buys somebody who we dont have a pot of clue about..

we dont know if kos has what it takes or not but id like to think we are in a position where we cant take that risk..

its like RA says wenger wont pay 10mil for a backup.. Kos is first choice and after the last few seasons are we really over the moon about it?? im not..

  72. rico says:

    Before I go….

ATLETICO MADRID will offer Manuel Almunia an escape route from Arsenal.

The Spanish goalkeeper will be replaced as the Gunners No.1 when Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer arrives at the Emirates, in a 2million pounds deal expected to be completed this week.

And Almunia, 33, will jump at a return to Spain because he is not willing to sit on the bench next season.

Atletico, in serious financial trouble, believe they can nab him for a cut-price fee.

The Madrid club expect to cash in on their highly-rated Spain Under-21 keeper David de Gea – wanted by Manchester United among other leading European sides.

Almunia joined Arsenal six years ago, replacing Jens Lehmann as first-choice two years ago. But boss Arsene Wenger has lost patience with the Spaniard after a string of high-profile blunders and could also offload his No.2 keeper Lukasz Fabianski

  73. Erick says:

Another important position that JJ talked about was the DM Denilson is not cutting and ones Song is injured we will be in the same predicament as last season what crap

  74. ED says:

hey guys we signed arshavin fairly recently he is a great player, lazy, but great

  75. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

That sounds a bit like some of us do want a big name who is over-hyped, over-paid and over-ego-ed.

I want a “big” name (i.e. professionally renowned) who is a shit hot, fantastic footballer who will help us win something. (Don’t give a stuff about his, their salary).

Messi, Torres, Casillas, Ronaldo, (only dreamin’) but they don’t come into your definition of big names, do they? 😀

  76. Erick says:

Rico good at last no waiters at Arsenal. ED Arshavins attitude is wanting I just don’t like it when he shows that dis interested look Cheers Rico

  77. Red Arse says:

    JJ,

Got to go and watch my other love F1. 🙂

    Back later.

  78. JonJon says:

    ED..

we signed arshavin because we were about to finish outside the top 4..

the ambition of wenger is to finish fourth and maximise profits…

theres little difference in prize money between 1st and 4th..the only difference is a trophy..but wenger wont pay 30-40 mil to finish a few places higher when it only delivers a 2mil prize money difference..he doesnt see it as cost productive..

take arsenal out of the top 4 however and wenger will spend to ensure CL prize money..

thats why we signed AA and it worked..
if wenger thinks we’ll finish in CL he wont spend..he’ll go with what hes got to maximise the profits at the end of the season..

sod the trophies, sod the fans its all about money..

  79. SPECTRUM says:

Nineteen days left till the transfer window closes. And we’ve only got one new face. What’s the bet Wenger waits till the last hour of the last day, to sign any more ? We still need another CB, a DM, and a GK. MINIMUM. After all the dealing’s done, we’ll end up with a smaller squad than before. That’s progress !??

    “In Arsene we rust”.

  80. JonJon says:

    erick

i hope we’ll sign a CM and use song in a dual role..

that way we dont have to rely on denilson and song can cover at the back when needed.

  81. rico says:

jj, agree jags and cahill are not nobodies, thats exctly the kind of player who will fight for us, they also know that playing well for their club will mean they will have a chance for their country too as the old boys are to be out….

we are never going to get the likes of messi, ronaldo and co and that doesn’t really bother me…

I’m not a big fan of Arshavin, paid 15M, he bust onto the scene, played great now look at him, he talks about his love of barca, sulks, and he’s lazy…

yes some will say thats what happens when you have sub standard players around you, well i disagree, great players step up, just like cesc does in most games…..

DG, you and me against the world 😉 😉

  82. rico says:

Spectrum, August 31st it shuts i think??

  83. DeiseGooner says:

Id give almunia away to be honest but if we get 2 mil for him then great. Still not sold on Schwarzer if im honest. Maybe hel work for a season and one of the other 3 will step up. Is that player coach role on the table for Schwarzer ??

  84. rico says:

Spectrum, three new faces, Kos, Chamakh and some 17 year old…

  85. rico says:

DG, at least AM want him, thats a start, i also still think the bogus i/v with wenger holds some truth, he was caught off guard and had to deny it…

i read about the coaching role too but a while ago..

  86. anto says:

    jj
ul never forgive TH for robbin us blind?r u for real?
hes the best player we ever had bar none.if half this team cared and performed half as much as henry we’d be much better off

  87. Erick says:

Aw runs Arsenal like its family business Mancity are strengthening and Hodgson will transform liverpool what are we doing different to be top class ?? Aw should step up or is legacy will be crap

  88. rico says:

How can Yaya Toure be paid £200K a week……

And Tevez is moaning because he only gets £150K a week…

Now isn’t that called being over paid…..

  89. DeiseGooner says:

If theres any truth in that interview at all then the interesting phrase was ‘goalkeeping situation’. Wasnt there rumours thet our keeper coach was on the way out too? are the club thinking theres a fundimental flaw in the coaching of the keepers? Didnt Jens also train on his own?

  90. rico says:

Erick, Liverpool are in doo doo, Hodgson will be sacked before Christmas imho, a great shame as he’s such a nice chap…

Gerrard, Torres, Babel, Reina could all leave, they have already lost one of their most effective players to the chavs….

  91. DeiseGooner says:

The Toure brothers really landed on their feet there havent they?

  92. rico says:

I think we have a problem with all our defensive coaches DG, thats why i though wenger would try and keep Sol, but looks like hes off to Sunderland..

Jens did, but thats cause he was mad 😉 😉

  93. Erick says:

Rico am not counting on it anyway we should not wait for others fail for us to prosper WE ARE THE ARSENAL we set standards enough with going for average we need to be at the top

  94. DeiseGooner says:

Get Keown in and partner him with Bould and get the back four working like a well oiled ‘hand raising’ machine.

  95. rico says:

Haven’t they just, but it’s wrong, dreadfully wrong in my book, no footballer is worth that kind of money, something has to change soon….

the world is in a financial mess and football is taking the mickey really… but hey, thats off topic rico 😉

  96. rico says:

    now i must go, i’m late….

  97. Erick says:

That kind of dosh is crazy Rico and Yaya is over rated saw him at the WC and he did not convince me

  98. oliver says:

i think arsene will sign someone. who knows what he is really thinking – i certainly do not – but there is nothing to suggest he won’t. if he doesn’t sign another cb, i will be as frustrated as everyone, but i think he will. there is still time in the transfer market, and arsenal deals seem to take quite a white. after the today’s final, that will be the world cup done for another four years, and i expect player movement to really heat up next week. i also expect bartley to have another loan spell at sheff utd, plus sol to eventually sign on at sunderland, so we will neeed cover. kosciely has said he will need time to adapt. arsene will bring another cb in.

  99. forza forza says:

if kos is the lot wenger should get the sack,no experience of c.league or europa league how the hell are we supposed to improve, the signing is a joke as it is.

  100. Erick says:

Oliver am also hoping we can get a minimum of 3 players Gk, DM and a CH but it seems it will be Gk and CH period.

  101. oliver says:

erick, i would not be so sure, i think that he may add more. arsene has only said that he is looking for another defensive player, but there should be players out there that fit our need. certainly we need cover for song at dm – i think denilson proved conclusively that he does not give us what song does at that position. we’ll see what happens. once the wc is over, the real transfer window opens. of course, he has said nothing directly indicating he is looking to add more than the defensive player, but i am hoping he sees the need and will do so.

  102. SPECTRUM says:

Rico – Thanks for correcting me about the end of the transfer period.I was thinking of the January window, which is only open for a month.
However, I stand by the rest of what I said. I’m talking SPENDING MONEY on proven, experienced players.Top class. So far, where are they ? And I don’t count Chamakh as a “new” signing. He joined months ago (and for free ). The 17 yr. old defender – Hajrovic, is not going to feature in the first team for years yet.

    “In Arsene we rust”.

  103. Erick says:

Oliver I feel that if our first team break down we will be in trouble becausing the bench is the problem as we saw toward the end of nxt season Spectrum spot on mate we need tested players period

  104. Erick says:

Last season Oliver sorry 🙂 becausing = because 🙂

  105. oliver says:

hahahahahaha…some nonsense coming out about atletico madrid being interested in almunia…if only…

  106. rico says:

    boo, hi oliver…

spectrum, no worries re the window, i panicked a bit when you wrote we only have 19 days left, we all know it takes wenger longer than that to sort deals out 😉

  107. rico says:

hi forza forza, sorry for the delay, all first comments sit in moderation, your comments will go straight on now…

my view is to give him this summer to sort our squad, if he does fail, which i think/hope he doesn’t then many a fan will be calling for his head i’m sure…

  108. rico says:

Hammers look as if they are upping their bid for Loic Remy.

  109. oliver says:

rico, if remy wants to play for those pornographers, that is his problem…

  110. Red Arse says:

    Yaaaay!!

Two top gooner fans, Hamilton and Button finished 2nd and 4th in F1 Grand Prix.

Webber, even though he is an Aussie ( 🙂 ) was brilliant in 1st.

Rico, have you forgiven me yet for taking a liberty? 😉

  111. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

New rumour is that Liverpuddle are on the verge of signing Loic Remy which would be annoying.

Also Real Zaragossa defender Diego Torrellas is wanted by Arsene.

Anyone know him? Arsene is going to drive me dippy! Rico you are right, yet again, if we buy anybody it will be a cheap unknown! 😉

  112. Erick says:

Rico and Oliver please tell me Roic is average and we are not losing out What happened to Vettel, RA though I like Hamilton

  113. Erick says:

Am telling you RA if we don’t strengthen we might regret it top 4 will be tighter than ever next season

  114. Red Arse says:

    Erick,

Vettel got a puncture in the first corner, went to the back of the field, but eventually he finished 7th.

    A great recovery drive.

  115. rico says:

i thought every arsenal fan wanted remy, except me of course 😉

  116. rico says:

Erick, i thought he was meant to be pretty good – what do i know, eh 😉 😉

    RA, for what??

  117. Erick says:

Never seen him play so what do I know Rico 😉

  118. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

Remy has got lovely thighs though, a la Van de Fart! 🙂

Erick, you are so right! We need to strengthen more than we have done.

I so hope the lovely Rico is right and we buy someone with guts, who wants to play for the Gunners.

I saw Loic play two games on TV last season and what struck me is that he is lightening quick! Whizzzzz, just like Thierry! I will be sorry if we don’t get an Arsenal fan. Oh well.

  119. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

    What (?) for what? 🙂

I teaased you about your big name definition. But I thought I might have bugged you. Hope not! 😀

  120. Erick says:

What the pit RA in F1?

  121. rico says:

nah, don’t be daft RA, i thought it was a serious comment, would want the old greaseball ronaldo anyway 😉

  122. Erick says:

RA just what we need I don’t remmember any counter attack we had last season that was breath taking Nasir is gaining weight Walcot is sprinting past toward the fans at the corner flag Arshavin is Lazy and Denilson is listening to samba music 🙂

  123. JonJon says:

hey guys just finished watching the F1

    webber was excellent..

    anto

i disagree..henry is an arsenal legend and always will be but bergkamp was better.

that doesnt change the fact he robbed us blind..still love him though..

  124. SPECTRUM says:

Red Arse – Interesting that West Ham are reported to have upped their bid for Loic Remy, who we are supposedly after. They are prepared to back their assessment of him with cold hard cash.We seem to have lost interest.Hmmm. Spot the difference.

    “In Arsene we rust”.

  125. Red Arse says:

    Erick,

I have followed F1 since I was a boy. Don’t know why they don’t race in Africa. Yopu would love it as a day out! 🙂

  126. Erick says:

A close friend of mine was in Malaysia when it went down RA he reckons that those cars are as noisy as the vuvuzela and its a weekend thing sad because sunday I have to go to church 🙂

  127. Red Arse says:

    Spectrum,

Once others like Liverpool and West Ham showed interest, the price went up and Arsene/Gazidis decide against pursuing it. Pity! 😦

JJ, F1 great race, wish I had managed to go. the McLaren is crap at the moment, but what a racer Louis Hamilton is! Wow.

Did you read that Whammers have also spoken to Sol to get him on a 2 year contract? He is marrying a Northwern girl but maybe London is big a temptation.

  128. adam says:

I’ve thought that Arsene failed to recognise, or failed to address the squad deficiencies, for a few seasons now. If he had seen the writing on the wall as so many pointed out, I think we could and should have won something. Not buying a striker last Christmas was a really dumb move and there have been other equally baffling failures before that. If Gallas, Silvestre, Campbell and Senderos all leave and he only brings in one replacement then we can kiss good-bye to winning anything this season (again) and it will be a tragedy, but a foreseeable one. When things stop making sense, it’s time to move on. I am a great fan of Wenger but I fear for the pressure he will come under this season unless he radically changes his transfer policy. At the moment it doesn’t look like he will but we live in hope.

  129. Red Arse says:

    Erick,

Church is good, but sometimes you are allowed to be naughty. 🙂

Rico, you should never take me too seriously, where you are concerned, I am a fully paid up member of the Rico fan club! 🙂 Doesn’t stop me teasing you though!

  130. JonJon says:

    they can take sol..

im sick of our players whoring themselves around..if he wanted to stay he would have signed by now..

    he can go

  131. Erick says:

Spectrum ever thought of changing your name to In Aw we rust 🙂 🙂

  132. Red Arse says:

    Adam,

    No argument here!

The bottom line is always money with Arsene/Arsenal. 😦

  133. rico says:

RA, trust me, i never take you seriously … 😉

  134. JonJon says:

    hi adam

ive said this a few times but remember in 08 when we lost an entire experienced top class midfield gilberto, helb, flamini, diarra and wenger replaced them by buying nasri, rambo and bischoff..promoted denilson and song and said we were ready..???

ive got visions of it happening again this summer..

lose an entire defence, one who happens to be our best CB and replace them with nobodies and promote from within..

  135. rico says:

jj, we agree today at last 🙂

Sol is gone, in fact Sol who 😉

  136. Erick says:

Adam thats the Arsenal story we have chances to right them wrongs but we still wrong them wrongs am I making any sense

  137. Red Arse says:

Got to go again, guys and gals,

Will faint from hunger if I don’t grab a bite to eat! 🙂

What has happened to KT, Rose, Suhail, and Agag?

We want to chat/argue when I get back.

You are spot on JJ. Sol doesn’t want to play for us, again, Sod Off! 😦

  138. adam says:

Red Arse. I think that is the most frustrating thing of all. Be prudent? Yes. But don’t destroy your chances before the season has begun by being arrogant or silly or stubborn. Arsene’s plan hasn’t worked and it’s time he changed tact. I haven’t thought that the squad was strong enough for several seasons. Apparently AW did but he was wrong. If it didn’t work then, why should it now, especially when other squads are getting stronger. Having to pay such a large price to watch a team that will likely not win due to these facts drives me bonkers and I reckon this is a factor in Cesc’s position too.

  139. Red Arse says:

    Erick,

Had to stop to read your comment.

You are so right with your wrongs that any wrong you make is right!

    Got me? 🙂 😀

  140. Red Arse says:

    Adam,

    Again you are spot on!

It frustrates a lot of us on here. (Don’t get my mate JJ going on this). Year after year, it’s same, same!

Hope Rico is right and this year is different! 🙂

  141. Red Arse says:

    Bye for now, everyone! 😉

  142. adam says:

Erick and JonJon. Spot on, both of you. The club and the fans need and in fact deserve a real push from Wenger and the board. A solid statement of intent. I really hope I’m wrong but I have this horrible itch of deja-vu. I looked at Wenger’s face after the pathetic end to the season and thought that the penny must have dropped by now and that things will change next season. I would have thought a clear-out of the not-good-enoughs, followed by several quality signings would rejuvenate things. I’m holding my breath, crossing my fingers and I may even get the Ouija board out soon.

  143. JonJon says:

    not only in cescs, adam

    henry, hleb, flamini…

nobody wants to stay and not win anything..

the only players that dont kick up a fuss are the ones who nobody wants so we lose the best and keep the rest every year..

one step forwards and 6 steps back..

  144. adam says:

JonJon. I make you right. I hate the Wenger knockers who will delight if he fails again but ambition is a great motivator. Certain of our players aren’t good enough because they have proved not to be. Some of last season’s capitulations made me feel sick to the stomach. Ignoring everything else for a moment let me mention the goalkeeping situation. If Wenger doesn’t buy a top keeper this season then what is the point of his continuing? I’m not sure that Schwartzer is that man. I’ve heard the argument that our young Pole who is on loan will be great in a few years and a seasoned ‘keeper wouldn’t stand in his way. That thinking is flawed I think. Buy a great goalkeeper and let the cream float to the top. If the Pole becomes good enough, great but don’t get too clever thinking about the future. Address what is in front of your eyes now. This applies throughout the team as well.

  145. rico says:

    Spot on adam

  146. Erick says:

Adam your views are spot on we need something for now and the future will sort its self out Chesney might even do a Cesc on us who knows

  147. JonJon says:

i love wenger but i think as far as taking us forward is concerned hes no longer the man to do it..

ive thought it a few seasons now and although he has the clubs financial interests at heart he no longer has the fire to build a winning football team..

ive listened to all the excuses i can and i dont want to hear no more..i want the squad sorted and sorted properly and although theres a few weeks left of the window there has been no evidence over the last few years to suggest anything will change..

its the same script every year…underachieve, say we have the money, release more players than what we buy and off we go again in the same vicious cycle..

i have no confidence in our transfer ambitions this summer, although i hope im wrong

  148. forza forza says:

for sure it’s time for wenger to go,one more year of this crap we have to put up with.

  149. adam says:

JonJon. I hear what you say but I guess the great unknown is the “real” financial restraints he has been working under and not those that some Internet nutjob has declared. My real problem with him has been the mind-numbing decision not to address squad problems when he had the chance. I’ve mentioned last year but a season or so before that he knew that we were going to be short in the striker department due to injuries and it was almost like he was holding his breath and hoping it would all be ok. It wasn’t and if I remember correctly, we were close to the top of the league at Christmas. I’m not saying we needed to spend £70 million on 2 strikers either. I also think that your point of being caught in a cycle of “nearly-there” situations is very true. For a club like arsenal to compete in only 2 competitions is crass. Not to play Arshavin against Chelsea at Wembley was baffling but the excuse that he wanted the team to know it could win without him, after paying £millions for just this kind of situation where a class player could make the difference was verging close to insanity. Now is the time to deal with all this stuff. Ok, he’s at the WC until tomorrow but then he really needs to sort this squad otherwise, as I said before, the pressure will be unbearable and I don’t just mean on him either.

  150. forza forza says:

it’s not a case of of taking joy when he fails again it’s a case off having enough of the same old cenario we face each summer ,all we ask for is,wenger to start acting like we are a top club and going after better players then the likes of koscielny and chamakh, what the hell are them 2 going to do,we need to improve not stay static,if anyone can really tell me those 2 will kick us on to the next level you are mistaken.Denilson doesn’t know how to defend diaby doesn’t know how to defend he needs to start working with them on there defensive game rather then letting them just get on with it,then there’s the goalkeeper situation he has let slip because he has turned a blind eye to it for 5 years now, wenger has done great things for the club no doubt, but every dog has it’s day and he has had his.

  151. rico says:

forza forza, how can be sure they won’t ‘kick us on’ – at least give the players a chance before slating them, ok, they are not Torres and Vidic, but without seeing how they play in our side, i don’t know how we can pass judgement so early..

  152. rico says:

diaby and denilson of course are a different kettle of fish, but even then a lot of fans honestly believe diaby has it in him, if he has, then he sure as heck needs to bring that to the table this season…

  153. forza forza says:

diaby needs to improve his defensive game massively,he never looks what’s going on around him and lets players in all the time,he’s very good at going forward but needs to work very hard on his defensive game,as for denilson he’s the same the goal rooney scored sums denilson up for me,again awareness of what’s going on around himself,as soon as these players get that sorted we might have a chance.

  154. forza forza says:

even if we turned into a boring 1-0 side again i would not give two shits,as long as we are winning that’s entertaining enough for me.

  155. rico says:

agree forza, 1-0 would do me, i want to us to be a tight as a ducks do da at the back, not sit watching and thinking we are going to concede every time the oppo attacks..

2-0 would be more comfortable though – we ladies are hard to please 🙂

  156. Marko says:

Disagree. Just cause a guy is given the number 6 it doesn’t make him a first choice starter, Bendtner is 52 and very much on the fringe and Chamakh is 20 something and is gonna be first choice with Van Persie. I mean we gave Gallas number 10 which is usually reserved for an attacking player so basically the number really don’t matter a damn. Originally I thought 10 million for a guy he’s gotta be starting but when you hear him talking about needing time to adapt etc etc I’m starting to think someone else is coming in and they’ll be fighting it out to see who adapts quicker and thus starts with Vermaelen. Someone like Serdar Tasci joining is a possibility.

  157. rico says:

Marko, thankfully there is another fan who thinks wenger will buy, i thought it was just me 😉

  158. Red Arse says:

    Marko,

Perhaps, but it just doesn’t seem like Wenger!

Tesci’s agent and his club said, as late as yesterday, they had not received any approach, let alone an offer, and anyway did not want to sell.

If you are right I would yell with delight! 🙂 There are still excellent CB’s out there, but I am not hopeful. 😦

  159. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

They say “to live in hope is better than to die in despair”.

The attitude of yourself and Marko is the better one, but years of disappointment do not fill one with too much room for hope! But maybe this year. 🙂

  160. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

I forgot to ask you, how did you like my “Ode to Rico” at 3:50 yesterday p.m. 😉

  161. rico says:

Ive slept since then RA, what was that again 😉 😉

  162. Red Arse says:

Had to stop you being lured by Damenace! 🙂

  163. rico says:

Dont you worry about DDM, he’s an old blog friend, a real good un… 🙂

  164. Red Arse says:

Well, off for a walk again, trying to get this dodgy knee working better again!

Everyone seems to have drifted off anyway.

    See you tomorrow, Rico.

  165. rico says:

night RA, enjoy the game later…

    Come on ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOObin 🙂

  166. Erick says:

Oranje RVP RVP RVP 🙂 🙂

  167. rico says:

Seems everyone has gone now, i’m going too,

enjoy the match all, laters 🙂

  168. SammyNelsonsPants says:

TBH, I think the Championship manager point is made at ppl who do this:

    In:

    Rooney
    Ronaldo
    Ozil
    Mertesacker
    VanBommel
    Kuyt
    VanDerWeil
    Gourcouff
    Cole
    Given
    Hart
    Cruyff

    Out:

    Flap
    Waiter
    Denilson
    Diaby
    Bartlett
    Cesc
    Squad numbers 8-16 inclusive
    etc etc etc

and the ppl who get riled by that are making the reasonable comment that a few things need to be lined up before you buy *insert name here*

    a) club wants to sell. Otherwise, we’re just doing a barcelona.
    b) AW fancies the player and sees a use for him
    c) Player wants to move to London and Arsenal
    d) Players agent is not in receipt of £225k pw offer from Citeh. ( cos then the deal is off)

IMHO, we wont spend £30 million this season, no where close. But I reckon on 2 more signings, GK and CB, and I think thats OK.

  169. rico says:

biggest thing for me sammy is point ‘c’

  170. rico says:

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for the footie…

see you all tomorrow folks, nighty night

  171. rico says:

morning rose, new post has just gone up
