Eduardo out and in? Mertesacker a maybe and Flamini could return!

I have to laugh at some bloggers, they come here and no doubt go onto other Arsenal sites, hurl a load of abuse about what we’ve written, tell us its rubbish, accuse us of playing Football Manager and then go. Well, I think they must be overdosing on their morning dose of Bran Flakes, they certainly are ‘serial’ abusers and talk a load of C**P.

Here we all are, blogging happily together day by day, no club football to watch and dreaming of the next signing Arsene Wenger brings in – not offending anyone along the way, also knowing that in reality we won’t get the players we dream of but hey, its gets us all through the off-season….

Today it’s about Eduardo, our little striker. We know that the rumours were doing the rounds that he’s been told he no longer has a part to play in Arsene Wengers first team. That’s sad I thought, if true, then after some thought I told myself that a move abroad may turn out to be the best thing for him…

Wham Bam, in a Sol kind of fashion, reports are he’s in talks with Aston Villa, what the heck is that all about? Why on earth would Eduardo want to stay in the Premier League, why not go off abroad and get a bit more protection from the referees, he sure as heck won’t get it here….

Onto the other Eduardo, apparently the reports overseas are that Wenger and Fergie are off into battle again, this time though it’s over the signing of ‘The Animal’ – aka Eduardo. He currently plays for Braga and has had a good World Cup for Portugal, well, until Tuesday night πŸ˜‰ Well, I don’t believe this one, not for a minute, he’d cost too much money for us so if Fergie wants him, he won’t see Wenger trying to stop him, in my opinion….

The Daily Mail suggest we are going to spend Β£10M on Per Mertesacker, this could be old news re-written, but we have all seen him in action for Germany, he’s a big strong man and at 6′ 5″ he’s just what we need. This is just the kind of player we need to sure up our defensive unit.

Lastly from me today relates to Mathieu Flamini, suggestion is that he wants to return to the Premier League.
Flamini for me is one of many who left us for a bigger wage packet, thought the grass was greener in Italy, but he soon learnt that the only thing better in Italy than England is their Pizza’s and Pasta Sauces πŸ˜‰

Would you like to see him back at Arsenal…..

    Morning all…

I’m staying away from the so called ‘i’m staying’ from the captain…. ‘anything can happen’ negates that comment….

Per Mertesacker – now if one strory in the paps could turn out to be true today, i hope its this one in The Mail, then if we get Scwarzer we will have a great defensive UNIT…

  2. Pat7 says:

I’ve voted yes to Flamini – he’s a grafter, can cover several roles, is a winner, won’t take bullying to himself or his team-mates & a true leader. He may have run down his contract & gone back to Italy to secure his future, but he played his heart out under our contract & it was AW & perhaps us that lost belief before he proved himself capable.

Despite all the people that have said he’s easily replaced, I’ve yet to see anybody at Arsenal even come close to what he achieved. He’s seen the grass or rather the bench on the other side so may be able to focus his thoughts here. I’d jump at the possibility to have him back!

  3. Babar says:

Italian girls as well look much better than english ones

  4. Pat7 says:

July 1st Rico, the day after contracts run out & when the ‘markets’ open in France. Feeling good…..

  5. rico says:

Morning Pat7, I can’t forgive him and don’t want him back, its not about him moving, its just the way he did it – we sold Diarra and let Gilberto go on the back of him staying…. then he walked…

Obviously I don’t know what he told wenger, but if it was that he was going to stay then i think he stitched us up…

  6. rico says:

Pat, I forgot that, thanks – but I hope we steer clear from the French players and Spanish πŸ˜‰

  7. dav says:

Yes to Flamini. Normally if someone left for more money I’d say no, but he had such a good understanding with Fabregas, and is less likely to want to leave under any circumstances this time round.

  8. milseΓ‘n says:

Stephen Ireland to sign for Arsenal this month for Β£6 million.

  9. rico says:

    morning dav and milsean –

is the Ireland story just hope??

  10. shedzy says:

i was about to say ‘id take ireland over flamini’ and then i remembered that ireland is literally as mad as lassanna diarra; he claimed his grandmother had died to get out of international duty, and it w as a lie – what a freak.

he’s a really good player tho, but it does sound like a ‘painting by numbers’ style rumour, ie he’s almost-certainly leaving city and we are probably going to be buying central midfielders.

imho, re flamini – we treated him badly, he gave us what we deserved; unfortunately it screwed him just as much (possibly more) than us – so i’d take him back in a second, and if Arsene has finally realised that his stubborn streak has not benefitted the club, then there may be some mileage in the rumour….. i reckon flamini is too proud to come back tho, and that wenger is equaly proud, so i doubt it’ll happen.

  11. mikeB says:

    Morning folks,

  12. Can somebody pls tell Cesc to get rid of his beard? He sure looks like Judas!

  13. 4pigs says:

I’m a yes. I think he’s a hard worker and seems to inspire those around him to read the game better/fill gaps when needed. However i dont like that he left in the first place…

  14. Mike E says:

all interesting stuff but whilst we talk the talk city are walking the walk and actually signing players.

any day now ‘arry will start to do some serious wheeling and dealing for spurs and we will probably wait ’til the end of the window to save a couple of million.

PS i would like to see a sol / adams type sit next to AW next season in the technical area to gee the players up and show some passion rather than pat rice (good bloke in training i am sure) who looks lifeless and moribund to me.

    mr editor?

  15. mikeB says:

I voted no to Flamini because of his history.
Year before he left, he worked like crazy and worked well. Year before that he was average. Year before that he was benched.
I contend that he festered on the bench, and this showed when he got on the pitch, the following year.
Then he decided to put in a shift and catch the eye of whoever…
At no time did he really work his guts out for Arsenal, and this lack of committment showed when he moved on… that may also be the reason he’s coming back… just doesn’t want to work hard enough for the right reasons.
    Hopefully not to us.

  16. 4pigs says:

    Tai Obasi Lagos
I like that! Does that make Arsene Jesus?

  17. SD-London says:

Well i am not sure of all the transfer rumours above.

    Oh! Morning all.

We couldn’t have agreed a deal to sign Laurent Koscielny and still be bidding for Per Mertesacker when the deal is still on the table for Sol Campbell to sign and Djuru is still there.
That will make 5 CB i dont really see Wenger doing that.

About Flamini i voted no and not because i don’t think he will be useful but simply because he left for greener pastures for free therefore i don’t see Wenger buying him twice.
Do you really think Wenger will buy him again ? I don’t think so.

  18. Jubril says:

Its a pity edu is going, such a fine striker bt wait do i hear aston villa then he is stupid if he could make d move 2 midland.per and mathieu, they re welcome if they re gotten @ d rite price.i just hope flamini has learnt is lesson dat all dat glitter re not gold then wats re d differents btw arsenal and a.c milan in d last 2years.

  19. rico says:

Morning again to those just coming on, I’m a big no on Flamini too …

SD, i have little faith in all rumours too, but just imagine if we got Mertsacker, what a defence we would have – just need a good keeper then…

  20. Sussexgooner says:

“PS i would like to see a sol / adams type sit next to AW next season in the technical area”

    Steve Bould anyone?

  21. saf says:

  22. SD-London says:

    No Flamini 😦

  23. SD-London says:

Flamini flopped in AC-Milan anyways and they are mostly old players over there and he could not get a permanent shirt.

So i am sceptical about his last season for us which might have being a one off like everbody guessed.

I guess Wenger knew something we didn’t know for him not to offer him a new contract on time.

  24. rico says:

Hi sussex, weve been touting for Bould as Wengers number 2 here for a while, he should swap with Rice πŸ˜‰

  25. rico says:

SD, maybe his performance was a milan convincing one…. he did well at LB though, but i still can’t see wenger getting him anyway, no more than he would Hleb..

  26. rico says:

Roy Hodgson has been confirmed as the new Dipper manager then….

Poor old fella, he will wish he stayed at Fulham come Christmas…

  27. rico says:

anyone see the rumours about Barca may forget cecs and go for Ozil as a cheaper alternative…. yeah right!

  28. mikeB says:

Hodgson making this move may also tell you that he has the inside track on Capello, and that Capello’s not leaving… why else would such a decent manager and man head off to the land of missing hub-caps?

  29. SD-London says:

I don’t think we should bother Wenger’s number 2 because Wenger is the Top Man, General and Chief commanding officer of the team and anything football matters in the club.

Second opinion wouldn’t be welcome by Wenger and he doesn’t look like he listens to everybody.

I think Pat Rice knew that on time and kept is cool just to stay in the job and get paid accordingly.
Nice job if you can get it.

  30. rico says:

mikeB, i think Hodgson is crazy, there is no get out clause in his contract if the england job comes up – why indeed would he want to go, big mistake for him imho, he is better than taking on a debt ridden club full of problems…

  31. rico says:

SD, i think you could be right, Rice is just someone for wenger to shout at, but thats where wenger gets it wrong, he needs a fresh opinion during games other than his own rosey specs one…

  32. rico says:

The new home kit is on, i like it… shame about the white socks though 😦

  33. mikeB says:

    Hi Rico
perhaps when Al Fayed sold the corner shop to the Qatar Royal Family, they cancelled Roy’s privilege shopper card.

  34. rico says:

I have to go out for a couple of hours 😦

See you all a bit later…

  35. rico says:

    mikeB πŸ˜†

he’ll be able to ‘lift’ his shopping in dipper land πŸ˜‰

  36. Erick says:

Morning Folks a big YES for flamini because of his fighting spirit

  37. KJS says:

Pat, I totally agree with your description of Flamini’s talents and what he could potentially bring to the team. The only issue I have is, that entire description is based on 1 seasons work and he is what – 26ish now?

Additionally, he is now on Bosman related wages, so I can’t see it happening and I am a definite, no !! Loved him for that great season he gave us and the cameo atLB and won’t forget it, but I also still remember referring to him as the invisible man.

  38. Galway Gooner says:

Ireland lied about his grandmother as his wife had just had a miscarriage and he didnt want it going public. A pretty good player.
    He is nuts thou.

  39. K-TR7 says:

Morning. Thanks to delbosque and the spanish national team YKW is finally seeing how life will be on the other side.thanks but no thanks…i wish anyone else to win the wc except them.

  40. DeiseGooner says:

no to flamini – he played the bosman game – he played us – but in the end its cost him more – regulr football and international callup – lovin the new kit all for its 70s look – we did have white socks with that style kit – just google frank mclintock

  41. SD-London says:

Wenger looks like he means business this time around i suspect he found a way to talk to Cesc and probably was able to convince him about the numerous and plenty signings πŸ™‚ he is about to make.

Reason why Cesc is now having a change of heart πŸ™‚ Thursday is looking great

  42. Nesta says:

A big YES for Flamini he z a hardworker. Maybe he did not fit well wit milan’s play bt he kept on fighting n got a place at right back dat shows character.

  43. mikeB says:

I don’t think Cesc ever had a change of heart. I believe it was all only ever about how much Barca were willing to pay.. 30-40 million meant it was an ego trip for the President, and he would only ever figure as a bit-part player, until Xavi moved on. 60 million plus meant he would be integral to their first team plans. I think Wenger told him this, which is why he sat quiet.

On the subject of Roy Hodgson; he has now come out and said he is so happy, and considers this to be the biggest club job in football… let’s ask him again when he comes out from losing to us, on the first day of the season, and finds his car up on bricks.

  44. gunner man says:

cesc played the game well he didnt come out and say he wants 2 go just incase he didnt get his move, which now looks likely. i hope they come up with the 50 needed cause we dont need any players that dream of playing elsewhere.all off chelsea’s title winning team dont talk about being elswhere in the future and we need a squad like that

  45. mikeB says:

Yeah I can see where you’re coming from, but with wisdom comes age, and vice versa. Do we really need that much wisdom?

  46. gunner man says:

i just think fabs heart is not with arsenal and i think we need 2 challenge the title with a whole hearted squad, although i believe we will almost certainly win the lge if he stays, the squads neva been this strong for a while now

  47. gunner man says:

we have enough players who r focused on arsenal only and are of a young age

  48. mikeB says:

GM, I agree about the squad, or I think it will be so at the start of the season, and I agree about the league; I think this is our time.

Can’t agree about Chelski though. I think we now have a better balance than them, and we are on the cusp of greatness with a well-balanced squad.

Look at England; they went to the WC with an aged squad and ran out of puff; I think Chelski will do the same this year; and look at Germany without Balack and with a better blend of youth and experience.

I reckon the maestro will get it right this year, and thanks to frugal previous years, our success will endure.

As for Cesc and wholeheartedness… I’ve supported Arsenal for more years than I care to remember, but if someone came along and offered me a bag-full of money for supporting Barca; I just might give it some serious consideration… nothing to do with not loving Arsenal. Just harsh reality.

Of course, before you all csastigate me as looking more like Judas than Cesc with his beard. I’d still pick Arsenal in the end… I think.

  49. Gareth says:

I’d say no to Flamini for several reasons. His head was never really in it as far as I could tell, thought I did believe it was during the 07/08 year, only to be let down in the summer when he left on a bosman. I’m sure he must have felt scorned being left out of the Champions League final in 2006, when he was part of the record breaking defence who kept all those clean sheets as well.

If he did come back, what would that mean for Song/Denilson/Diaby? At least one of them would fall down the pecking order, which would make them unhappy and want to leave. I would take Song over Flamini any day of the week, likewise Diaby. Denilson is rated extremely highly by Wenger too so I just don’t see him getting near the first team.

I do think we are a little bit light in the centre of defence though, assuming Nordveit or Bartley won’t make the step up. I’d be quite worried if either of them did as with our injury record they could easily end up with a run in the first team.

Mertesacker has said he’s staying at Werder Bremen, and according to one of Celtic’s players Campbell has bought a house in Scotland not far from the training ground, so I think he’s gone too.

A central defender (after Kolscieny) and a goalkeeper (I’m happy with Schwarzer) is all we really need to polish off the squad now. People forget that Djourou can play back up to Song, as he used to play the holding role at the start of his career.

Come on you gunners, let’s get that title this year πŸ˜€

  50. Red Arse says:

    Hi Guys

Today is the official start of the grouse shooting season, sorry I meant that the transfer window is now officially open.

Stand by for a massive increase in the bulls**t like “Wenger is in discussions with Mertesecker”, closely followed by “Mertesecker’s agent says he will stay at Werder Bremen”.

I think all journos who make crap predictions of transfers should, when the trfr window closes, be made to go and watch the Spuds as punishment ….. Well that will be all of them then! 😦 Plonkers raising my hopes, again.

  51. SD-London says:

    right o gunner man

  52. Idris musa says:

We accept that flamini to returnt to arsenal.

  53. Red Arse says:

You are right to be realistic. We gooners will always and only support Arsenal, but the players are professionals and by definition will go where the biggest bucks are.

I still say Cesc will stay, though, as apart from already being well paid he is the chief honcho at Arsenal, and a wood splintered arse at Barca.

You would take the money to go and support Barca, Mike,(say a Β£1m lure) and so would I, but we would charter a jet to take us to all the Arsenal games when Barca weren’t looking! πŸ˜‰ Pretty sneaky eh, and all they deserve.

  54. mikeB says:

    Morning RA,

As always you are the soul of rationalisation, bring an oasis of mythic structure to a desert of idle conjecture.

  55. rico says:

Afternoon all, what have i missed apart from Mertasaker says he’s staying put!

  56. Red Arse says:

    I totally agree.

I have no idea what you mean but I spotted “mythic” in there and that’s good enough for me, my preciousss! πŸ™‚

  57. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico,

Really good post, especially the “wham bam” bit. πŸ™‚ MikeB is waiting for an encore!

  58. rico says:

    Hi RA, thank you… πŸ˜‰

  59. oliver says:

good morning rico, et al. i posted something to yesterday’s piece when the john cross story quoting cesc broke. this morning, i will stay away from it – if you look at the quotes, nothing has really changed. i do wish that when quoted he “never said he would definitely leave…” someone would have asked him if he ever specifically said he would “maybe leave” previously. does not matter so much, because the implication remains maybe he will still be transferred…or maybe not.

flamini is a tough one. i personally think no, he has a single great season (a contract year no less), has done very little otherwise. on the other hand, he knows the squad, cesc may like to have him back, and it gives us cover for song. it probably will not happen, but under the right circustances, it may not be such a bad move.

  60. Red Arse says:

Am buzzing off now, but MikeB has stimulated my creative juices so if you check your emails I have sent you a note for your consideration. Unfortunately it does not have a subject heading which might dump it into spam, which wasn’t too smart of me. πŸ™‚

  61. Red Arse says:

    Hi Oliver

Flamini is a definite No. From his point of view, the old adage “don’t go back” is the best advice.

From Arsenal’s point of view, it’s over, move on, don’t hark back and repeat the same mistakes, there are other fish to fry.

  62. rico says:

    RA, I have replied πŸ˜‰

  63. rico says:

    Hi oliver

I saw your comment on yesterdays post and i responded this morning, i think you are spot on, nothing has changed really – its a bit like Lardybayor last year (but nothing like if that makes sense) one minute he say he was staying and then, anything can happen…

As you quite rightly say, just wish the i’v had asked ‘have you asked to leave’…

  64. oliver says:

hi ra and rico….i doubt there is mutual interest between flamini and arsenal anyways. and i agree that arsene will not be interested in flamini after he left of his own free will. rico, also saw your comment on balotelli and the speculation about him makes me laugh. as if arsene would have any interest in that prima donna – those are the types of characters he goes out of his way to avoid. balotelli certainly has potential, but his attitude and baggage make him not worth the risk. he would fit in much better at citeh – not least because he and mancini were together at inter. that is all i will say on balotelli, i hope i never hear his name linked with our club again.

no piece on cesc from me today. there little to add to what i have previously said.

  65. verant says:

No to Flam-money i’d like to see Eastmond get a chance as he seemed to have a confidence in himself and played as well as anyone in a bad tram at the end of the season.

  66. rico says:

oliver, re balotelli, its all coming from him, someone here say a while back, if moanrinho can’t control him, who can πŸ˜‰

  67. rico says:

hi verant, i’m not convinced by eastmond just yet, cc for him i think unless we get crippled with i njuries again or wenger shocks us by getting another midfielder

  68. oliver says:

rico, agreed. however, he is choosing the wrong target – if he wants to create speculation around himself, he should talk up man city. they probably have some genuine interest in him and it is certainly a better fit for him. i have no tolerance for the guy and wish he would not link himself with my club.

  69. gunner man says:

everybody should stop wishing 4 every player we have been linked with we r not chelsea mourinio era, arsene aint gona get any big players 2 stop song, diaby,,nasri, ben from progressing u should no how he works he does not get better players to push ones he has

  70. rico says:

    oliver – spot on πŸ˜‰

gunner man – and you suggest we do what then???

  71. rico says:

Back to Cesc oliver, i think he is playing a game, doesn’t want to upset the fans, doesn’t want to burn his bridges in case he ends up staying…

maybe barca have told him they cant afford him yet, well one of the players from barca who are with him right now…

  72. gunner man says:

2 cb if sol dont stay and a keeper, no more and fab will b staying 4 the fact that he is not important enough 4 barca, they dnt need him now it was a luxary 2 mould him while xavi is getting on. when they really need him u will c it in the money they offer

  73. Red Arse says:

You know what is also beginning to bug me?

Well, if Barca or Manure are linked with a player, however tenuous the link, then almost immediately that player or his agent releases a comment that he is delighted with the link; it’s a dream; I couldn’t say no, if they ask for me …. blah di blah.

Arsenal are linked with Mertesacker or Montolivio and almost immediately they issues denials that they have any interest in Arsenal, or that any such link is “absurd”.

I suspect that Arsenal’s cheap, penny-pinching approach is turning us into a pariah club.

    Yeuk! 😦

  74. Red Arse says:

    Gunner man,

That is certainly a point of view held by some.

Rico thinks Cesc will go, I think he will stay, neither of us knows for sure, but both would like him to put up or shut up, once and for all.

  75. rico says:

RA, i don’t necessarily agree with that, i think its about the player, mertesacker is obviously happy where he is and wants to reassure fans he is staying – shame the same cant be said of our captian….

  76. oliver says:

rico, i am starting to think that there may be an internal split (within the arsenal heirarchy) of opinion on whether to sell cesc to barca, or not. if so, i think we can surmise that arsene – based on actual comments – does not want to sell. but that does not mean certain others – possibly gazidis, who i have not seen a single comment from regarding the cesc-barca speculation – are not open to doing business with barca for the right price. if there are elements in arsenal willing to consider transferring cesc this summer, that is a possible explanation for the “anything can happen” quote.

we know cesc wants to go back to barca some day. we know he loves arsenal – he made that clear in both statements he made regarding this summer’s speculation. if cesc is aware there is a faction of arsenal leadership that would seriously consider transferring him, why would he unequivocally commit to either club? consider that he has always stated he would like to return to barca at some point – if some at arsenal are open to doing business, is it not in his interests to stay quiet, or at least ambiguous when asked directly about it – and see how things play out? is that not leaving it in arsene’s hands?

i realize i am committing an analytic sin by citing “facts” to fit my argument, rather than trying to disprove it (and make it stronger), but i am really starting to feel there is an internal split within arsenal on whether to seriously consider a transfer or not. if that is the case, however, i think we can be reasonably confident that arsene will have the final word on this. if arsene says “no” to a transfer, i expect that will be it for now. and all indications are that arsene does not want to sell cesc yet. if we say, for arguments sake only, that gazidis is the one seriously considering a transfer deal for cesc, he will not be able to go against arsene. this is one instance where i am glad that arsene has more power than anybody else at the club.

that said, if barca should come in with a stupid offer (say upwards of 80 million pounds), i think even arsene would consider a transfer. perhaps that is what cesc is referring to with the “anything can happen” business.

i fully realize this is a bunch of speculation upon my part. if nothing else, we can safely surmise there is more going on behind the scenes with this than meets the eye.

comments more than welcome – there are plenty of holes to be poked into the above premise!

  77. Red Arse says:

I hadn’t thought of that but have you seen the Montolivo report.

There have been other instances of players/agents putting clear blue water between Arsenal and themselves.

I might have over-egged it but it’s not nice and akin to “Would you like to come to my party?” “No chance, I’d rather not thanks”.

  78. rico says:

I can understand what would make you or anyone else think the way that you have, but, the first rejection of the barca bid came from the website – saying something like ‘the club’ have advised barca that he is not for sale.

wenger in any i/v has purely supported that verbally..

i don’t think wenger or anyone else at the club wants cesc to go, but i also believe that they are united in their view that if barca offer 55M plus, they will let him go…

i got slapped down here several months ago on a theory i have about players who play when injured often leave soon after, look at cesc last season, how many times did he play when maybe he shouldn’t…

i seriously believe there is more to this story than we all know, maybe back in january it all started and it was then that barca were asked to wait until the summer….

i will eat my hat if he is with us next season and even then we all know what will happen in Jan, and again next summer….

  79. rico says:

RA, that’s fine by me though, we don’t want players who don’t want to play for us – if we build right this summer and start to win things, you watch the change…

  80. Red Arse says:

I think your analysis is interesting but you have answered a number of your own points with contra points already.

If there is a split in the camp regarding sell/don’t sell between Arsene and Gazidis, Arsene will win or he will walk. It won’t happen, they won’t risk Arsene waving goodbye.

From Cesc’s point of view, his bum is getting sore from sitting on the fence, hence his non-committal responses. He is trying not to offend either side at the mo’, while he is in the clutches of the Barca/Spain cabal at the WC

Finally, you say that if Barca come in with a huge offer of Β£80m, even Wenger may crack or even bite their hands off to take it. That’s an awful big IF.

Barca have painted themselves into a corner by saying they think Β£30m (ish) is a good price. They might move, but not by Β£50m. Sorry Oliver, your premis does not stand up. πŸ™‚

Rico, you watching Wimbledon? Zvonareva is almost there! πŸ˜‰

  81. Red Arse says:

I have to buzz off again for a while.

Avashnee and Agag usually come on about now so they will keep you and Oliver company! πŸ™‚

  82. rico says:

It doesn’t meant to say the oliver is wrong though RA, maybe there is a split and wenger will walk, thing is none of us know and thats what makes it all interesting..

we all see things diferently and add it up in our own minds then come to a different conclusion…

i am watching, whilst doing housework 😦

  83. rico says:

no worries RA, i expect oliver is busy at work, sneaking an odd moment to pop on …

    enjoy the tennis RA..

  84. Red Arse says:

I think Oliver was just speculating and asking for comments on his analysis. He is analytical in posts, which I like, but so am I, when asked! πŸ™‚

Swish,….. that’s me going out the door. πŸ˜‰

  85. oliver says:

rico, i think cesc will still be our captain when we open the season at anfield, and i do not think a transfer will happen. i think i did not express my point the way i should have. instead of saying that someone “wants” to sell cesc, i should have said that someone is “receptive” to the idea of selling cesc.

i think that our club is united in that we will not sell cesc for the amount barca formally offered. but if pressure increases and sucessively larger bids come in, i think there are different levels of resolve. arsene and others may not even consider starting negotiations until a certain amount is reached (despite his hardline comments, i am confident a “magic number” does exist in arsene’s mind – a number that, if submitted in a bid, arsene would consider it no longer in the club’s interests to not begin earnest negotiations with barca). i think there may be a second camp with the same thought process, but a “line in the sand” number that is lower than arsene’s.

the club statement is going to respresent a unified public position, regardless of the stance – that does not mean there are not internal discussions about what point to start really considering an offer. you mentioned cesc’s injury from last season – perhaps there are some within the club that think he may be prone to more injuries and that his value may be highest at the current point in time.

whatever is going on, i am confident cesc will stay with us this summer because i do not think barca will come close to matching our valuation. despite specualtion about magic numbers and all, i am confident our club is aware of the impending pr disaster if they sell near barca’s current valuation. they can spin selling cesc for a huge fee in a number of different ways that would make it appear such a sale is in the best long-term interests of all parties. i do not see any way they can similarly spin selling cesc near the current figures mentioned, and that is why i think cesc will still be here.

barca have to appease their supporters as well, and i think they will have a problem with some of their support if they pay a huge fee for cesc. as i understand, there is a lot of discontent about how inter fleeced them in the ibra deal. i think we are at a stalemate right now, and i think it will continue like this right through opening kickoff.

and last-but-not-least, i still do not think cesc has a problem starting the coming season with us.

  86. oliver says:

ra, good counter-points to my argument and i see exactly where you are coming from. all i will say is that i think our club are pragmatic, if nothing else. i think everyone at arsenal has a figure in mind where, if reached, they consider it in the club’s interests to start negotiations. that said, i think arsene’s view on this will take precedence over anyone else’s – specifically because of the enormous power he wields. but i would consider it very naive of myself to think that anyone – even arsene – does not have a certain figure that would at least compel them to consider selling cesc.

  87. rico says:

RA, oliver speculating, aren’t we all πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Every time I write a post its full of speculation, thats all we have until wenger gets his cheques book out and tells the world he has bought four players πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  88. agirlagunner says:

Boo, rico. How are you? Hope the pets haven’t been giving you grief πŸ™‚

If Eduardo must go…. 😦 I hope it’s somewhere he can bloom again. Not to Aston Villa, nope.

Per Mertesacker does not particularly sound interested. I suppose, that’s a no.

As for Flamini. Please. One season wonder. A very Et tu brute?, departure! Up to now, his defection isn’t something I have manged to forgive.

  89. rico says:

Trouble for me oliver is that i have it in my head is a gonner IF Barca stump up the money, if they don’t he stays and i will always believe that is forced rather than preferred for him…. 😦

  90. rico says:

Hey, Boo to you agag πŸ˜‰

I’m good thanks, how are you??

The pets are all behaving thankfully πŸ™‚

So that’s a no on Flamini then πŸ˜‰

  91. oliver says:

rico, that is big point in which we differ. if he remains at arsenal, you will think it is because he is forced to. if he remains at arsenal, i think he will be happy to lead our first team squad and win silverware with us. we know he wants to join barca someday, but i don’t think he will have any problem if it is not this summer.

  92. agirlagunner says:

An unreserved no, rico. πŸ™‚ I’m okay. Could be better. πŸ™‚

Hello, oliver. Some really good points about YKW. I can’t find it in me to see anything reasonable about his wanting out, so mum’s the word. 😦

  93. oliver says:

    hi agag

  94. rico says:

Ah, you mean more sleep agag 😦

OR, do you mean you could be better if Cesc shouts ‘Im Staying’, and wenger buys Torres, Villa, Cahill, Subotic and Melo πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  95. Suhail.TV says:

Afternoon all.. defeats cant change Wenger’s mind..good post rico.. and a bit unusual start.. πŸ˜‰

  96. agirlagunner says:

Both, rico. Sleep and sweet dreams on Torres, VDV, Affelay, Melo. I won’t touch Villa as he’s yours. πŸ˜› Do you suppose he’ll get stain-ish too? How could you bear it?

Erick does not much like Melo though.

  97. rico says:

    Hi STV,

it narks me when people come here and have a dig at the post, fellow bloggers and then are just darn right insulting – most rotten comments you guys and gals don’t get to see as we ‘bin’ them, i just wish they would bugger off and start their own sites up and see how difficult it is…

I felt better after my rant πŸ˜‰

  98. rico says:

agag, you make me smile, out of all those the only one you leave me is Villa, a man who is soon to be stained πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

I saw Erick say he doesn’t like Melo, yet jj rates him i think – just goes to show we all see different things in players – i guess though you have to ask the big question…

    Melo or Denilson πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  99. rico says:

    agag, you watching the tennis??

  100. agirlagunner says:

Hola, STV. How’s school? You make me feel positively ancient.

rico, I can’t begin to imagine how difficult it is to write. I can barely even string enough words together to come up with a coherent comment. (or that could be blamed on the GG.) πŸ™‚

I feel bad they make you feel bad, but… at least we do have a wonderful community here. And I’m reaaally glad the big-time cussers go to spam. Expletives are so unnecessary… unless of course it involves people who populate our hitlist, in which case, it’s perfectly warranted.

  101. agirlagunner says:

Hahaha. I’m a hoarder. Torres is mine, Villa is yours, Affelay is mine, Melo is yours, VDV to share.

    Sounds like a plan, eh?

Yes watching Williams play Kvitova. I don’t particularly like the Williamses…

  102. Suhail.TV says:

Hola Agag.. Back to school in two weeks.. How was today??

Rico I understand the difficulty you people facing from this buggers..and you still run every thing smoothly..

  103. rico says:

    agag, your 3.50 πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

  104. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico

All we need now is Avashnee, a big cooking plot and you three girls could sit around singing “hubble, bubble toil and trouble”, while you casserole all or any unfortunate Barca players who fall into your clutches.

I’m with Erick on Melo. Although he hasn’t been bad in the WC, I watched some Italian footie last season and he looked like a larger version of Denilson, but dirtier. πŸ™‚

  105. Suhail.TV says:

tennis is boring with out Federer….. and Agag, VDV is mine…………

  106. rico says:

oh, but don’t feel bad, they just annoy, they dont upset me πŸ˜‰

  107. rico says:

Hi RA, what are you trying to say about us ladies πŸ˜‰

Avashnee is missing, i guess the Flu got worse 😦

STV, VDV is mine, all mine and no sharing agag, i’ve already lost Villa πŸ˜‰ You can all the rest, honest πŸ™‚

  108. Suhail.TV says:

Me too RA. He got nothing special and Gilberto still looks better than him..

  109. Red Arse says:

While you girls carve up the juiciest morsels, I will conversely admit the one sport i struggle with is tennis.

The womens’ tennis is dominated by the physical power of some. Predictable and utterly unsporting.

They should introduce a handicap system so that anyone over 6′ 6″ should have to play with their left hand, serve underarm, and stop grunting. Now we would have a good competition. πŸ™‚

  110. Red Arse says:

    Well done Suhail,

I don’t think we can get Gilberto back, although he has been linked with Everton lately.

No Denilson, no Gilberto, so who would you have, apart from VDV and I am not sure of your motives there. πŸ™‚

  111. agirlagunner says:

My today wasn’t as bad as some of my other days, STV. Not complaining. πŸ™‚ Nadal’s still in, so we’ll have a few more exciting tennis matches.

Hi, RA. I like Avashnee, she has some appealingly bloodthirsty ideas. There is something about the stains that makes me want to turn to the dark arts… eye of newt toe of frog… πŸ™‚

I like what I’ve seen of Melo so far. But then again, that’s not even a proper sampling, I didn’t see any Serie A matches last season.

Sure thing, rico. I actually just really want Torres. But then I’ve said that for only like the nth time. πŸ™‚

  112. Red Arse says:

I didn’t realise anyone had dissed you this morning. I wish I had been around.

  113. rico says:

RA, that is so sexist πŸ˜‰

I think Torres will leave Pool now agag, he signed for Rafa and now he’s gone i think he will follow him out the door….

    Ok, so no Melo….. πŸ˜‰

  114. rico says:

Not this morning RA, yesterday and many days, and jj and ave get it too – its ok, they go in the end…

  115. Red Arse says:

    Hi Agag,

I think we need to keep you and Avashnee separated. The two of you certainly put the wind up me yesterday.

I understand the “eye of newt” but “toe of frog” what have the French done to you? πŸ™‚

Torres has been utter rubbish in this World Cup. He is a bit like Samson, he has taken his hair highlights out and now he has lost his strength. A bigger tart than me! πŸ˜‰

  116. rico says:

I have to go and cut the grass, so off for a bit, catch you all in a while, but if you go before then, i bid you a goodnight πŸ˜‰

sweet dreams of Torres agag πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  117. agirlagunner says:

RA, I gather tennis is not your favorite sport? I don’t really follow women’s tennis. Too much Serena and Venus. A bit scary. They both look like they can pick up a car and hurl it at you.

  118. Suhail.TV says:

    Arsh/ Walc

    VdV cesc song ozil/nasri

    gibbs verm subotic sagna

  119. oliver says:

not a big tennis fan. i am certainly not a fan of the williams sisters, although their pops annoys me far more then either of them.

  120. Red Arse says:

I suppose it’s what they get used to on other sites. As I said , I hopped around other sites this morning and there is a lot more profanity than one would expect. 😦

This is the best site, and we get a very good class of girl, even with their black conical hats, hubbling and bubbling away! πŸ˜‰

  121. Red Arse says:

I don’t mind the top men’s tennis. The skill and athleticism can be brilliant, and they are evenly matched.

Women’s tennis is all about giants and midgets (comparatively). You can’t blame anyone, but it makes things lop sided and predictable.

Agag, I am so pleased I haven’t upset you yet. I’ve been taking lessons from Wath on how to understand women! πŸ˜‰

But I suppose there is still plenty of time. πŸ™‚

  122. agirlagunner says:

Domenech is what the French inflicted on us, RA. That’s why they may yet be roughed up. πŸ™‚

For someone wio had two surgeries on his knee this year, I think Torres is doing well. I am, without doubt, biased, of course. I like the high school hair. I never took to the blonde and streaked and permastraightened.

Nitey, rico. I should be off in a bit too. Yawn, yawn.

that’s a good line-up STV… But Clichy gets my nod at LB. πŸ™‚

oliver, the Williamses are the antithesis of the Huxtables. πŸ™‚

  123. Red Arse says:

Young Guns have just said on their site that Arsenal ahve disbanded their Reseve team and restructured the youth set up.

    Really interesting read.

Agag, out of curiosity, what time is it now in (Manila?)?

  124. agirlagunner says:

But how could you upset me? Unless you defend the stains, and lord knows why you would or how you could… We should be okay. πŸ˜›

  125. agirlagunner says:

    It’s almost 12 mn, RA. πŸ™‚ I’ll check that out…

  126. oliver says:

nice comparison, agag. richard williams has two supremely talented athletes, yet manages to make it all about him. perhaps less so in recent years, but he appears to be the type of father i have nothing but contempt for…

  127. Red Arse says:

It would be quite unintentional Agag, except I think that the nomenclature “stains” is a bit …….Yeuk! 😦

  128. Red Arse says:

Sorry, again, Agag, I assumed you were in or near Manila.

If it is near midnight where you are, it makes me yawn on your behalf. πŸ™‚

  129. Red Arse says:

It could be simple pride on the part of Mr Williams, Oliver. They are supreme in womens’ tennis. Just not my idea of a fair game.

  130. rico says:

Boo, who’s been upsetting who, let me at em’ πŸ˜‰

  131. oliver says:

ra, i actually see him as a loser who could not accomplish much in his own life and is now living through his girls. his smugness during the first final they opposed each other really turned me off. perhaps i am viewing him unfairly, as i have many other things, but that is how i see him….

  132. rico says:

I’m with oliver, papa williams gets on my wick!!

As do both of his daughters….

  133. Red Arse says:

    Shh, Rico,

We have all been good and well behaved in your absence Rico. (I think). πŸ™‚

  134. agirlagunner says:

oliver, there is so little about the Williams family that charm. The dad is awful.

RA, the nomenclature fits four-square. Haha. They are ick, unwanted and hard to get rid of/just won’t go away. πŸ˜›

  135. Red Arse says:

Crikey, Rico, both you and Oliver are such nice gentle people, but remind me not to fall out with either of you! πŸ™‚

  136. rico says:

oliver, you are judging him right in my eyes…

In fact, the whole family play the ‘oh so hard done by’ story it makes me cringe..

yes i am biased, but look back to the days of Chrissie, BJK and Martina, they had it tough, no money, not much earnings etc… the latter of those three had to leave her home, her country and defect to the States to make her career….

Back then they had it tough, today is a breeze if you have the talent… one title and you have enough money to live the rest of your life…

  137. oliver says:

rico/agag, that makes three of us…i am almost embarrassed i am expending keystrokes to comment on richard williams!

  138. rico says:

RA – re your 4.59, good, just how we like it here πŸ˜‰

  139. rico says:

agag, and so bloomin smug when they are iv’d… i really can’t take to either, but i think you guys may have guessed that… πŸ˜‰

  140. Red Arse says:

    Yeuk and double Yeuk.

The only Staines I know is a suburban town in Hertfordshire. I will mentally picture that dump when you use that unfortunate noun. πŸ™‚

  141. Suhail.TV says:

Wilcommen rico.. back and whats the condition of weeds

  142. oliver says:

ra, no worries. i try to have a thick skin and not take things personally, so you will probably find it very difficult to fall out with me.

  143. rico says:

they have been mowed over STV πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

oliver, sounds like me, all water off a ducks back these days πŸ˜‰

have we signed anyone yet πŸ˜‰

  144. Suhail.TV says:

The only one I know in women’s tennis is Ashley Harklerod

  145. rico says:

    STV – WHO?? πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  146. Red Arse says:

As I said to Agag, I would never want to fall out with anyone intentionally, but sadly I seem to find it easy to do so without meaning to.

I have a poor sense of humour it seems.

In addition, my head swirls chatting to someone 5 hours behind me and Agag 7 hours ahead, and god knows where Suhail is. Hold me tight Rico, I am going to fall over. πŸ™‚ Any excuse while Wath is away! πŸ˜‰

  147. oliver says:

rico, i am confident koscielny has been signed. website will announce it when they feel the time is right. but i think everything is done and dusted there.

  148. agirlagunner says:

and rico and oliver, have you seen them in their long gowns and baubles at Laureus WSA Nights? Ay, Dios. Que horror! (okay self, easy…)

STV, Weeds is in Nairobi, probably studying too. True to name, he may be growing some ganja too…

  149. Suhail.TV says:

    😦 πŸ˜‰

  150. oliver says:

agag, i cannot say i have, and it sounds as though that is probably a good thing…

  151. Suhail.TV says:

RA.. Am 4.5 hrs ahead of you.. πŸ˜‰

  152. Suhail.TV says:

I saw SW agag.. and she acted like some one who came to receive the award πŸ˜‰

  153. Red Arse says:

Hold on Suhail, Rico let me go and I am just getting up off the floor. πŸ™‚ Can I ask where that is? Please don’t answer if it seems like prying, I am like the cat, always curious. πŸ™‚

What a cosmopolitan bunch we are.

You do realise Agag, that as a white, middle class guy in the UK, I would be shot by the PC brigade if I were to agree with you. And in case they are reading this, I most certainly don’t!

Rico, we are now being linked with Portugal’s CM Meireles.

  154. rico says:

agag, just everything about them makes me cringe 😦

  155. rico says:

    STV, ah, you mean…..

  156. Suhail.TV says:

Rico thats why I suggest you to turn attention to another tennis kid

  157. Red Arse says:

Rico, you little show off! πŸ˜‰

  158. rico says:

oliver, me too, but i think they are holding out to announce a second signing – then both together and we are supposed to be happy…

    my bet is schwarzer

  159. rico says:

STV, she’s old though at 25???

  160. rico says:

    Me RA, never….

  161. agirlagunner says:

Haha, RA. Fair enough. We don’t want PC people on your case. πŸ™‚

rico, they make it difficult to like them…

STV, what a totally guy thing to say. Lol. πŸ™‚

I don’t like Schwarzer. Bet you, he becomes Australian Waiter πŸ™‚

  162. Suhail.TV says:

Agag :).. Rico how old is Schwarzer !!

  163. Red Arse says:

    Rico, Oliver,

I suspect the Mark Shwarzer deal is a done deal too.

Arsene has always come across to me as a v.truthful person, and at the end of the season he seemed to go out of his way to say he would not be buying a GK.

If it is true about Shwarzer it makes me question my belief in Arsene’s straight talking persona.

  164. rico says:

37 i think STV, he’ll be a stop gap until Chesney is ready…

agag πŸ˜† he isn’t that bad, is he…

  165. Red Arse says:

Suhail, Shwarzer is about 39 years old.

  166. Red Arse says:

Rico, I looked up Shwarzer on Google, and as usual you are right! 37 years old.

Thing is you type in his name and the prompt comes up Mark Shwarzer, Arsenal. They know more than we do!

  167. Red Arse says:

Agag, if your earlier estimate of time was correct, it is now 12 mins to 1 a.m.

You will never get up in the morning. πŸ™‚

  168. rico says:

I think you could be right RA, i think Shwarzer was just waiting to see what happened with Hodgson, now hes gone we could see both announced tomorrow or monday…

  169. Suhail.TV says:

Why wenger think Shwarzer is better than many… as for as chesney.. If he is better he can oust the other for no:1 with some better performance..

  170. rico says:

RA, seeing as you are too busy to check your emails, your post will be up in the morning πŸ™‚

  171. Red Arse says:

Am off for a swim, hope my leg does not fall off at the knee.

Hope to be around tomorrow, but if not I will definitely speak to you Saturday.

Good night/afternoon to you, guys and gals. πŸ™‚

  172. oliver says:

agree on schwarzer, especially as fulham are now being linked with david james. i am more of the mind, however, that we are trying to get another cb onboard. i think it is reasonable to infer that we have some targets in mind, and have probably made inquiries regarding some of them. we’ll see what happens. i would prefer arsenal to announce koscielny sooner, rather than later. better for everyone, eliminates speculation about “stumbling blocks”. sometimes i feels our club over-thinks how to do these things…

  173. rico says:

STV, I’m better than our spanish waiter πŸ˜‰

    i would prefer sorrenson (spelling)

  174. Red Arse says:

I did check my email and responded to you. You are now confusing me like Agag does. I thought you said Saturday? Hence my 5:54 πŸ™‚

  175. Suhail.TV says:

Its all just for financial reasons.. He is eternally changed. the joy of reaping the rewards for himself deafened him. he may sell fab and bring another denilson as replacement.. and might well end up in the 4th place(0r less) we look as a turtle in the race in transfer market.

  176. agirlagunner says:

Good night, all. I’m used to sleepless nights, RA. But late kick-offs are trying. 😦

Behave, all. :). rico’s here so she’ll make sure you walk the straight and narrow.

    bye, rico!

  177. Red Arse says:

    Rinky Dink,

I have now emailed you again.

    No probs.

  178. rico says:

Nighty Night agag, sleep well – no Torres πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  179. Red Arse says:

    Goodnight Agag,

Good to chat to you! πŸ™‚

  180. Suhail.TV says:

    Night agag..

  181. rico says:

RA, i have had neither email, but i will post yours tomorrow as i’m around, saturday i am in and out all day…

  182. agirlagunner says:

    Catch you all tomorrow! πŸ™‚

  183. rico says:

I’m off too, another good day all, thank you..

Tomorrow is a Red Arse Post day, so be afraid πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

    Nighty night all, stay safe…

    Til tomorrow πŸ™‚

  184. rico says:

    agag, see ya πŸ˜‰

  185. Suhail.TV says:

    Am off too.. laters..

  186. rico says:

nite STV – be good πŸ˜‰

  187. Red Arse says:

    Night everyone.

    Good day,good post Rico.

  188. rico says:

Forget to say, 51% of our voters would like to see Flamini back….

  189. rico says:

RA πŸ™‚ now go and have a beer, i am ….

  190. ruffy says:

Yes, It will be perfect for us to have him back flamini is very good player i belive he will now get to know his fault, let forget about past. and i have to tell you he will be come back strongly
