Taxi for Henry!!

And Diaby, Clichy and Sagna, taxi to the airport of course to catch their early flight home from what can only be described as a total embarrassment. Not all down to the players I know, a lot has to do with the dreadful management team. To turn up at a World Cup in such disarray is dreadful, just dreadful!

As an Arsenal fan, I feel sorry for the current players who represent France and Arsenal but by the time I finish writing this post, that feeling of sorry will be gone. These players, if they remain with Arsenal for the coming season will now get a good rest and be fit hopefully for our new season, that to me is what really matters.

Henry, yes its a sad way for him to bow out of  ‘top’ international football, but I guess what goes around comes around and maybe fate took over. The French should never have qualified should they…… It’s a shame really, this for Henry should have been all glitter and glory in what is surely his final World Cup, he has given so much to club and country over the years he should be waving goodbye to international football with his head held high. Instead, he has to read about how he cheated to get France to South Africa and how he is to blame for the ay the French campaign has gone.

One of the best strikers France has ever had has been on the bench for most of the competition and will now fade away as subtly as the sun goes down at night….

He deserves a better ending….

This is the only way I will remember the great man, not as being French but as being Mr Arsenal while he was with us and we know that our club will always hold the greatest love in his heart….

Henry the winner….

Henry saying bye bye…… 😦

Moving on, with a tear in my eye, anyone who wanted Wenger to get Gourcuff to replace our current captain if he leaves needs to re-think, he has been woeful and today his sending off completed what has been a dreadful World Cup – but then, didn’t Wenger say that he won’t judge a player over four weeks? What about just over a week Arsene, you seen enough to put you off?

I’m really disappointed for the South African side, they huffed and puffed and nearly blew the French House down by the goal tally they needed to go through. At least they can hold their heads up and be proud for the way they have conducted themselves.

From one team in a shamble to another, tonight it’s do or die time for England. They may not have cheated in order to qualify but the off field antics haven’t been good either. The  only difference is, I really want England to qualify. Not because I am English, it’s because not one member of the England squad plays for Arsenal so the longer they stay in South Africa, the more the players use up their energy. Then I hope they start the new season, knackered, burned out and maybe even a little bit crocked.

So, Come on England, go woop that side you are up against this afternoon, I’ll be cheering loud and proud, or watching a
re-run of Loose Women 😉 Maybe a spot of tennis at Wimbledon would be easier on the eye……

Oh well, that’s it, short and sour today 😉

Have a good day all and lets hope the new boy gets announced today….

    Morning all….

  2. shakyArsene says:

To say they shouldn’t have qualified is going a bit too far, to say that goal should have been disallowed is more like it.

  3. rico says:

Hi shaky, its only my opinion and i don’t think they should have qualified…. but i respect yours too…

  4. Tiny says:

The handball robbed Ireland of having a 50-50 chance of qualifying for the World Cup.

Gallas’ dubious goal merely ended the possibility of a penalty shoot out – which France also had a 50-50 chance of winning.

So it is a bit of an exageration to say “The French should never have qualified.” It’s more like the French should never have been allowed to qualify without having to endure the lottery of penalties.

  5. Erick says:

Howdy Folks 🙂 🙂 Mama Africa is asleep what going on come on Ghana get the job done a draw will do

  6. K-TR7 says:

Morning all.henry’s movement was sublime to watch…

  7. Erick says:

Avashnee how is it like in SA after that victory

  8. Red Arse says:

    Hi Guys

I watched the games by flicking between channels (including the England/Aussie cricket match) so did not really get an in depth view.

It would have been great if SA had got thru, but I also felt a bit sorry for Clichy, Sagna and Diaby, though they lokked jaded and dispirited.

Oddly enough I thought Diaby was really playing well at first, all over the field, until I realised that Diarra is a Diaby lookalike and I was mistaking one for the other.

  9. IrishGooner says:

Agreed that the handball should only have resulted in a chalked-off goal, but there were other things at play here – France were in disarray during that playoff, and had that goal been disallowed, theres no doubt in my mind that Eire would have qualified. Not to mention the fact that FIFA seeded the playoffs somewhat dubiously, as this was not the norm. FIFA wanted France to qualify.
Good article, even being an Irish man, I feel sorry that Henry has to bow out this way. Ill never forgive his cheating, but will always respect the effort and quality he had at Arsenal.
As for England, who knows? Id be worried if I was English though – even if you do qualify, it looks as if the first team of real quality you meet will send you home. Inexplicable really, England seem to play with an inferiority complex, while the media appear to be the opposite…..great blog, regular reader, keep up the good work!

  10. rico says:

    Hi all,

RA, told you England would win the cricket 🙂

    just going to read back…

  11. rico says:

Avashnee, i thought Diaby was not good, what i saw of the game… clumbsy, gave away a few silly free kicks which SA should/could have done better with imho

  12. rico says:

Erick, i’m looking forward to the ghana game….

  13. rico says:

    Diarra v Diaby RA 😆

  14. rico says:

haha Avashnee, maybe you were watching diarra by mistake like RA 😉

  15. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico

You did say that, and it was a great England win, thanks to an Irishman, Eoin Morgan. 🙂

You know I did not realise what you meant about “Knob of the Day” until just now. I am typing opposite that horrible picture of Laporta. Yeuk!

I liked your article, again, and am really impressed too with the photos. Classy!

  16. rico says:

Hi IrishGooner, good to see you here and thanks for your comments… Sorry for the delay, first comments go into moderation..

If England qualify in second place IG, they will play Germany I think, so all aboard the next flight home after that… No way could this English team beat what appears a strong German set up..

  17. Red Arse says:

    Avashnee,

What does it mean “holding thumbs”?

  18. rico says:

Thanks RA, only jj noticed it yesterday, i couldn’t resist putting him up in his grundies 😉 😉

Classy eh, i knew you were a smoothie 😉

  19. rico says:

For England Avashnee? No, I think they will win 3 or 4 – 0….

  20. Red Arse says:

Thanks Avashnee, I have never heard that expression before.

You asked Rico if she thought there could be an England upset today. For myself, I think England could easily win 4:0 OR be appalling and lose 1:0

You may have read my reference to the cricket. England won that game because of a wonderful performance by an Irish guy who plays for us. If he played football too, I think we would win. 🙂

  21. rico says:

RA, i am still thinking of a reply re Morgan, there isn’t one – he was sensational, what do England have now, one irishman and two SA’s 😉

  22. IrishGooner says:

Not sure if its any use or not, but I have an uncle who is a journalist, not a sports journo, but a financial one….however, his work does involve football sometimes, because of the money/debt involved in the game. He wouldnt tell me who he spoke to, (Im guessing Liam Brady!) but he heard a few things – Arsenal have contacted Joe Coles representatives, but thats all he knows on that, nothing concrete. Schwarzer was enquired about, but unsure if a formal bid was made. Word is that Wenger is looking at 2 goalkeepers, one plays in Russia, and the other in Greece. Not much info really, I know, but nice to know we are at least trying to sign players!

  23. Red Arse says:

Three Rico, if you count Strauss, as well as Pieterson and Kieswetter. (One days)

Of course we also have Trott and Lumb and Prior (T20 and Tests). So all in all that would make it a possible 6, if they all played in the same teams.

  24. rico says:

Thanks IG, like you say its good to know we are trying, especially in the goalkeeping department – sorrensson would do me…

Just hope wenger trys hard enough, we cant hear anymore ‘we tried for this player’ when the window shuts, knowing we only signed chamakh 😉

  25. Erick says:

Germany need a win to be sure of going through while a draw means Austrilia have to beat Serbia my oh my 4 Ghana a draw will do. Avashnee Dede Ayew is pele son what a great talent he destroyed the Austrilians solo RA 🙂 how is the going

  26. rico says:

I am going crazy i think Erick, i forgot Germany have lost one so top spot is not certain 😦

  27. Erick says:

Rico you might be forced to come up with a cricket home page but this is a footie one 😉

  28. K-TR7 says:

Our fans were clamouring for gourcuff and lloris.lloris is an excellent shot-stopper but is as hopeful of claiming a cross as flappy.a few weeks ago i said gourcuff has talent but he has a weak mentality and is almost certain to choke on the big stage and thats why he failed at milan but flourished at home where the pressure isn’t as much…

  29. Red Arse says:

Rico re the SA cricketers in the England team, they are all South African born but have at least on English/British parent, (Lumb’s parents are both English).

But back to football/Arsenal, its interesting IG wrote about background activity to sign players, but Le Prof was quite definite he was not interested in buying a keeper, when he was asked in May. Hopefully he has changed his mind!

  30. Erick says:

The maths of this group is tricky any of the three teams can get top spot but Ghana should force a draw minimum. Rambo has started running 🙂

  31. Nedu says:

Hi all, germany ghana is gon be a cracker. Not because of the play but because of the 2 botaeng brothers. Almost swearing at each other these days. Am just sorry for gourcouff.

  32. Red Arse says:

Hi Erick, good day to you my friend. 🙂

Sorry about the cricket post, but it was because of the South African connection. Both games were being shown live over here in the UK.

How are things with you? I like it best when both you and Wath are chatting! 😉

  33. Erick says:

Nedu mouth watering its the big one England can win but as Aw said they need to play with freedom

  34. rico says:

Erick, you know us on here, we talk everything sport, wine, food, beer and GG 🙂

  35. rico says:

RA, they get stick for it though, especially from SA 😉

Its Ashes year too Erick, be afraid 😉

  36. Erick says:

RA am good me friend the Sailor is an alcohol addict and you know how hard it is to get on the same wave length but I try 🙂 he believe all the girls in the world are hes for the taking 😉 Cricket is boring

  37. Erick says:

Rico am afraid very afraid but the new season will squash the cricket talk and Wath won’t allow it

  38. Nedu says:

Erick..seems to me you are ghanain? ‘Twichy said he wouldn’t buy rooney for 1.5, i wouldn’t buy lennon for free unless i get paid for the deal. Lol. All in all, England has been woeful just like nigeria!

  39. rico says:

Erick, haha, no he won’t – he loves sport and i bet he loves cricket too 😉 😉

  40. Erick says:

Nedu actually am Kenyan but have been supporting all African teams you can tell how miserable have been 😦

  41. Erick says:

Rico I know women have the ability to sweet talk themselves out of tricky situations but Wath won’t buy it

  42. Erick says:

Avashnee nice on hope they will make it but don’t put your money on it the way they have been playing Cheers

  43. rico says:

Erick, bet you a strawberry shakie 😉

  44. rico says:

    Sing up Avashnee 🙂

  45. Red Arse says:

Rico is right Avashnee, wish we could hear you sing it.

  46. Erick says:

I prefer Vanilla Rico but I know am the most unlucky person in the world never won a bet in my life so you can bet all your belongings 🙂 🙂

  47. Erick says:

RA i would pay a fortune to hear you sing after a couple of cocktails 🙂

  48. rico says:

    🙂 Erick….

  49. rico says:

Guys and Gals, got to pop off for a bit,

Be good and no rowdiness please 😉

  50. Erick says:

Rico very true am afraid did you see the article on Ramsey he has started running 🙂

  51. Red Arse says:

Erick, with or without an alcoholic lubricant you would not want to hear me sing!! 🙂

If you have ever heard a cat calling for its mate and mutiply that row by 100 you will get the idea. 😦

  52. Erick says:

Cheers Rico:-) RA still just for the fun of it I would laugh my ribs off

  53. rico says:

Erick, I did, back in October its hoped…

    Moscow 😉

  54. Red Arse says:

You are very naughty Erick. 🙂

Mind you the songs I sing have a rugby background and are very masculine and extremely rude. I think they probably would make you laugh! 😉

  55. Red Arse says:

Perhaps I could teach Avashnee the words. Now that would be funny! 🙂

Got to go for a while. Later.

  56. Gunster says:

We need to switch from that french lot to more players from South America and Spain. Although my heart knows he’s gone, please god we don’t lose Cesc else it will put us back at least 2 years of rebuilding.
If we had won a trpopy of two in the last six years then perhaps not only would Cesc have stayed but he may tempted his colleagues e.g. Torres, Villa etc to join our cuase. Instead sorry but wenger has blown it by choosing to mostly go shopping in ‘Aldi & Lidl’ rather than getting the cheque book out for some proven high class talent. Sort it wenger or else no man is greater than the club!!

  57. K-TR7 says:

Now pedro wants YKW to join them!and they think they can get torres for 38 mil…pathetic!

  58. avenell says:

    Morning all Roadsters..

RA just to let you know I managed to get that open.. cheers buddy.

Hi Gunster, welcome to AR.. sorry for the delay in coming on.. It only happens on your first comment.

  59. K-TR7 says:

Imagine if theo and nasri had gone to the wc?they’d have been made the scapegoats for their nations failures…avanshee what is quite intriguing about barca is to me it seems rosell is more interested in torres than fabregas.i’ve also heard that they are on the verge of signing mata.it seems laporta’s ego wanted cesc but not guardiola.

  60. avenell says:

Manure have ruled out bid for Joe Cole…. probably skint.. lol..

  61. avenell says:

I hope Capello keeps him tucked up nice and warm on the bench this afternoon.. 😉

  62. Suhail.TV says:

Hello all.. Great post rico.. but..I dislike the heading.. a sorry ending for a legend’s career..

  63. Suhail.TV says:

That would be a realistic analysis Avashnee..if stain fails to qualify

  64. oliver says:

morning all…good riddance to this particular france side. domenech should have been sacked after euro 2008, that was the perfect opportunity to make a change that everyone could see was necessary – they did nothing, as this is where it has gotten. by separating thierry the man from france’s world cup team, i can say i would liked to have seen him get a goal on his final appearance. a goal for th would still have seen both sides eliminated, so it would not have impacted the big picture there. clown that domenech is, i cannot condone the french players “industrial action” a few days ago – they made themselves into mutineers and may have even generated a bit of sympathy for domenech, something i had thought impossible. i am not sure which is worse, the fact that they took that action, or the fact that they took that action over Anelka!

  65. rico says:

    Afternoon all 🙂

  66. rico says:

STV, sorry the heading offended, it was of course very tongue in cheek, i hope the respect shown to him in the post made up for it 😉 😉

  67. agirlagunner says:

    Hello, all.

rico, I looove this line from your post “xxx Then I hope they start the new season, knackered, burned out and maybe even a little bit crocked.xxx” Couldn’t have said it better myself. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever really recovered from losing Henry.

    Hello, stv.

  68. rico says:

Hi agag, thank you, its always nice to please 🙂

I blame his wife for divorcing him, thats why he left, i’m sure 😦

  69. Erick says:

Ave, Stv, Agag, Oliver what up people Ra no thanks rugby dude are perverts 🙂

  70. agirlagunner says:

oliver, Domenech is an odious man. Trezeguet (one of my favorite players ever) was forced to call time on his international career because of him. The French Federation made a massive mistake keeping him on this long. And how they have suffered for it!

rico, and it appears the former Mrs. Henry really wanted to take him to the cleaners. 🙂 She may have done just that.

Hello, Erick. What have you been up to? And what makes you say rugby players are pervs?

  71. Erick says:

The crowd rather than the players Agag that what i see here

  72. Erick says:

Ave I will be very dissapointed if Cole goes to the spuds and turn us down

  73. avenell says:

Erick.. The Spuds only pay 2/3rd’s of the wages we do.. so I cannot see him joining them.

  74. rico says:

Shame she wasn’t more like Mrs Cole agag… 😉

Yo ave, not working or have you sneaked off to see the mighty England play 🙂

    Go Ghana, Go Ghana 🙂

  75. avenell says:

Spurs are only 90 mins from losing their manager.. lol..

    c’mon you Serbs..

  76. rico says:

NO Lemmon or Heskey – at last…..

Why oh why is Gerrard on the left again….

  77. avenell says:

Got the builders in.. The kitchen project is about to start.. bricking up a doorway and putting a large window in… dust cloud about to errupt.. 😦

  78. rico says:

    You being serious ave 😉

  79. agirlagunner says:

Aaaaah. I’m sure there are loads of pervy footie fans too, E. Imagine the home crowd at Stamford Bridge, Old Toilet, **ite Hart Lane… Haha.

If Cole’s coming to us, I hope he doesn’t get any minutes!

  80. rico says:

go and hide somewhere and write some posts then ave 😉 😉

  81. avenell says:

If England lose the next manager is ‘arry or Hodgson.. so yeah..

  82. rico says:

Erick, i take it you are a ‘one sport’ man and don’t do two timing 🙂

  83. rico says:

‘Arry won’t get it ave, he’s got ‘stuff’ still hanging over his head hasn’t he? He’s crooked…

  84. Suhail.TV says:

Then I blame that wife too…Domenech also destroyed the great Vieira.. He is disrespectful to players and that affected..

  85. avenell says:

    and Pires STV

  86. rico says:

Domenech has destroyed french football full stop STV, and many players…. Hi is to France what McClaren was to England 😉

  87. rico says:

    McClaren ruined Theo 😉

  88. avenell says:

McClaren helped his brother Lewis though..

  89. agirlagunner says:

Avenell, remodelling? Exciting! Messy but exciting.

  90. avenell says:

Hi agag…. and it’s too hot for all that labouring..

What’s the weather like where you are??

  91. Suhail.TV says:

yeah ave..Wenger also was not fare to him.. rico 🙂

  92. avenell says:

I blame lehmann.. he was never going to get away with that trip..

  93. rico says:

Could be worse though ave, it could be pouring with rain, dirty feet in and out of your home – not so nice 😦 😦

  94. agirlagunner says:

Hot and humid year-round, ave. 😦

  95. Suhail.TV says:

Rain is nice rico.. here it happens almost every day.. >300cm a year

  96. agirlagunner says:

rico, sounds like the pitter patter of dog paws. Haha. DOn’t I know about it?!

  97. Suhail.TV says:

Agag am back from such a place to cool and rainy home land

  98. avenell says:

    10 feet a year… 😯

  99. rico says:

STV, where are you again? sorry i forgot and just want to make sure i avoid it too, so so much rainfall 😦 😦

agag, spot on, the rain and eight paws do now go well together 😉

  100. avenell says:

rico… it doesn’t matter, you gave it away last week.. 😦

  101. rico says:

what ave?? you lost me there?? 😦

  102. avenell says:

Got to go out for an hour… Kids uh… miss the start of the footie.. 😦

  103. rico says:

iv’e just seen you lewis comment ave 🙂 🙂 thats nearly as good as your, can’t stop ive got a Toyota 😉

  104. avenell says:

You bet my house rico… or 300cm of rain = 10 feet..

one or the other is the answer.. must head west..

  105. agirlagunner says:

LOL, ave. And yet, rico’s house hunting! 🙂

  106. rico says:

    Ah, that, phew 😉

STV, i hate the rain, like agag said earlier, when you have two very young dogs, you need it dry 😦

  107. rico says:

Tee Hee, I am agag, I want ave’s, but only when his kitchen window has been fitted 😉

  108. oliver says:

hi agag, agree completely on domenech. not only is it puzzling that he ever got the job in the first place (i could think of plenty of qualified people who could have replaced lemerre after euro 04), his pre-france body of work was less-than-distinguished. the fact that someone so inept, who got so little out of such a talented collection of players, kept that job through three major tournaments can only be seen as an indictment of the fff itself. amazing…

  109. Erick says:

    ha ha ha ha ha
Ave am hoping Cole joins us but for me its not do or Die Rico to the contrary am a sports man i watch many sports 🙂

  110. Red Arse says:

    Hi Guys

Agag, it’s good you are here. (said in a genuinely sincere tone).

I may be the one who sent Erick into an anti rugby diatribe with a comment about rugby songs. (self-satisfied smile is visible).

V.interesting to read Wath’s claims of undying affection for you girls yesterday, despite competing SA attentions. (said with a smirk). 😉

This has been a homage to you, Agag, as I love your quirky sense of style and humour. (said in an ever so slightly fawning way).

Nearly footie time. Nerves are a jangling!

  111. WingWong says:

Jesus… u’s boys talk a load of shite.

  112. Suhail.TV says:

    Am back…
Rico.. you are very caring..Lucky they are.. your dogs.. 🙂

  113. rico says:

STV, you know me too well.. 😉

RA, just want to say a huge thank you to you 🙂 Friday will be your day 😉

  114. rico says:

    Erick, but not cricket 😥

  115. rico says:

Hi WingWong, come and join in then, after your comment is full of information and substance isn’t it 😉

  116. Suhail.TV says:

Yes, I know you.. Rico.. you..a cricket fan too

  117. SD-London says:

    Hi all,

Rico, u are just mean with your article wishing the England players to get knacked before the league starts.

YOU SPOKE LIKE A TRUE GOONER.

  118. rico says:

    Hi SD, I sure am… 😆

Off to watch, see you at H/T peeps…

  119. SD-London says:

I woke up to the dreaded budget by George Osborne and i was suddenly glad the Premier League is independent if not , Cameroun and his puppet (Nick Clegg)would have liked to cut the Millions in the Premier league.

  120. agirlagunner says:

oliver, Domenech was fortunate ZZ was still playing in the 06 WC as the latter almost single-handedly carried Les Bleus to the finals. He was basking merely in ZZ’s reflected glory. My disillusionment with the French NT reached the lowest of troughs when the FFF voted 18-0 to retain his services in 08. Trez retired shortly after. Now the French are reaping rotten fruit…

  121. oliver says:

games underway….i cannot get away with as much posting as i did yesterday, but in the interests of keeping our discussion threads arsenal-focused, what do you think our starting eleven will be for the opening match at anfield?

i will project this under the assumption that cesc is not sold to barca and koscielny transfer is completed. i think we will line up as follows:
    fabianski
clichy – tv – djorou (if fit) – sagna
    theo – song – cesc – diaby
    arshavin
    rvp

if cesc is transferred, nasri in for him. if cole is signed, i expect he will factor in somewhere.

note that is not my preferred starting eleven, just a speculation on who arsene will choose to start the first match of the season. i will also speculate, and it is just a guess, that we may see more fluid lineups from him. hopefully, he will have more options through improved fitness and squad depth, and i hope he will give more consideration to starting certain players for certain opponents. we’ll see…

  122. oliver says:

agag, ribery came up trumps as well during wc 06. and do not forget that our own theirry scored the goal that relieved brazil of posession of the world cup. but i agree, without zidane, they never have made it as far as they did. for better or worse, he was the story of that particular world cup (arsenal’s jens lehamann finally ousting oli kahn as germany number one, a close second). i will concede that it would have been difficult for the fff to sack domemech after coming so close to winning the world cup, but they had everything they needed to do it on 08. that they were so committed to keeping him boggles the mind. roger lemerre was dumped after france had a wc 2002 campaign very similar to this one – and he had coached the euro 2000 winning team!

  123. agirlagunner says:

RA, you’re sweet. I am pleased you listened to your mother… Flattery, indeed, will get you everywhere. 🙂

The English could be rubbish again, I hope you have some more of that Montrachet.

WATH must be raising hell in SA. Good for him! One of these days a poster who goes by “W.A.T.H’s liver” will send in an S.O.S.

  124. Shrek says:

While I would normally not say anything about Henry as he is one of the reasons I liked Arsenal a lot, at international level he was hardly as good as he was at Arsenal. One major reason was that it was Zidane calling the shots.Another major reason was that Henry has never really turned it on in big matches on the international scene(its just my opinion) . I believe that was the major difference between Henry and Ronaldo (Brazilian) , the best striker of Henry’s generation and one of the greatest strikers in history. If anyone was a better finisher than Henry especially dribbling past players and in one-on-one situations , its the Brazilian Ronaldo. He has done things at such a young age that I have only seen Messi do. If not for horrible injuries, who knows how good he would have been? Although the 1998 final is a complete mystery on what happened to him , he had the ability to turn it on in the big matches no matter who the opponents and he has done it at club level in 4 different countries (Brazil,Holland, Spain ,Italy). How can anyone forget the hat trick he scored at Old Trafford against Man U? Completely turned Rio Ferdinand & co inside out. Of course he had zidane , figo & carlos for company but that doesn’t take anything from his own superlative finishing.
I have always wondered why there are no players like Ronaldo,Messi, Ronaldinho and other great talents emerging from the Arsenal academy. I think its because Arsenal have always focused on team play and sort of suppressed individual adventurous streaks to attack. While I agree that its very affective and eye catching, sometimes individual talent has to be allowed to express itself in its own way. Arsenal currently lack such a player. They need another Thierry henry to take on defences.

  125. rico says:

Well, England 1-0 up, same old rubbish footie but a goal from the shin of Defoe ….

    USA are 0-0 i think…

  126. rico says:

Hi Shrek, welcome to AR …

  127. Suhail.TV says:

Algeria played some nice football.. watching them first time..

  128. agirlagunner says:

Looks like you’re getting OUR wish, rico! Yay! Rooney is but a shadow of his Man Utd. self… Interesting. 🙂

oliver, I don’t think Fabianski, Djourou, Theo, Diaby will start. It will be Almunia (unfortunately), Koscielny, Nasri, Denilson, instead.

  129. Red Arse says:

    Nice one Shrek.

I think it is partly the fault of the youth selection policy at Arsenal. Over the years, they have rightly put a premium on players having natural skill regardless of physique. Or alternatively they select athletic players without skill, (they think they can teach them the necessary skills later).

When they are bedded into the youth teams the skillful, (usually small) players become more athletic while the athletic players do not come on with their skills.

The result is we end up with Randall type players who are O.K. but nothing more. What a waste of talent. It’s a shame. 😦

  130. rico says:

agag, they could yet surprise england… i dont think it will be either almunia or flappy…

  131. Shrek says:

Thanks rico, I am just another Arsenal fan from India.
    Hopefully

  132. Suhail.TV says:

    Really!! No Lloris/haart 😦

  133. Shrek says:

contd… Cesc will stay with us. I see that England are 1-0 up against Slovenia. personally I feel that England might win this convincingly but in later rounds will as usual falter against bigger, better and skillful teams.
The England football team is similar to the Indian Cricket team – overhyped and overpaid.

  134. Red Arse says:

Rico, you are welcome. It only took 5 minutes and looks like it. 🙂

If I can help out in the future I will, with something that can be held back for emergencies or dropped in the recycle bin.

Agag, I am agog (is that a goose gog?) that you took my Agagism post so well. I meant what I said tho and imitation is a sincere form of flattery. 😉

  135. Suhail.TV says:

Rico If he starts Almunia this season also.. What could say about Wenger?

  136. Suhail.TV says:

Red Arse… You are really spot on..

  137. K-TR7 says:

Good point shrek.AA and RVP are the closest we have to individual players.i commented here the other day that we need such a player who can dribble on his own since we face lots of park the bus opponents.thats why messi/cr9/robben are so crucial to their teams since they have the x factor.watch the dutch with and without robben and you’ll see the difference…defoe is the first spud to score in the wc shnce klinsmann in 98…

  138. Red Arse says:

    Agag

The second half has been terrific. The England fans have been great. (farts excitedly)

Can’t believe one goal is enough.(waves hand to dispel fugue).

Joe Cole is on, one of ours? (points accusing finger at the dog). 😉 😉

  139. Erick says:

    RA 🙂

  140. Erick says:

America got the goal its England

  141. Erick says:

    Its England and America

  142. K-TR7 says:

I believe the americans will go top due to more goals scored by them…

  143. agirlagunner says:

    🙂 RA 🙂

My fondness for parentheses owes much to English not being my first language, hence, the need to self-commentate. Haha. They are very helpful shapes, those curves.

  144. oliver says:

phew…that was a close-run thing for us usa’s. if we had failed to score, that would have been what we deserved – but finally, someone was on hand to put away the umpteeth ball the algerian keeper spilled. so congrats england as well – we have survived the group stage, perhaps both our nations can play better from here..

  145. Suhail.TV says:

Looks like England stretched its campaign to one more game.

  146. rico says:

    Well well, what a finish…

I honestly thought England would concede, well done them, they are 2nd in the group so even more reason to cheer Ghana later 😉

RA, I have emailed you so you may need a spam check 😉 😉

Shrek, I hope you will feel at home here, we are from all over the world and its kind of an Arsenal Family, i’m sure you’ll slot in just fine 🙂

  147. agirlagunner says:

Hey, KT. How are you? You’re right again! The Yanks go top!

  148. oliver says:

usa went through as group winners, england runners up…placings matter little at this point, both sides can expect difficult opposition in the next round.

  149. rico says:

STV, if wenger starts almunia, i’m off to find the nearest lake to jump in….

well, more like a puddle, i don’t like deep water…

  150. rico says:

anyone watching wimbledon, one match is 2-2 in sets and 25 games all in the final set… something like 65 aces served by one of the players…

    😯

  151. Red Arse says:

Agag, your English is better than mine!

You have a talent which you should try and develop.

Whatever the reason for your use of parentheses it is really innovative, and I am going to pinch it for use elsewhere, where you can’t tell me off! 😉

What a win for England. Rubbish footbal technically, but v. exciting! Well done the good old U.S. of A., as well. Mucho boozing tonight, muchacha! (fluent in Spanish, obviously). 🙂

  152. Erick says:

Ghana come on 🙂 Hope for Africa

  153. Suhail.TV says:

Wow that’s an exceptional thought.. I watched Wimbledon Rico.. and the paladin Federer almost lost it.. But great players always come back..

  154. K-TR7 says:

Agag you just lighten up the blog as always.congrats England that was a professional perfomance by the lads.ghana vs germany is going to be a cracker!…a few days ago i commented on an aspect of italian footy known as furbizia.if there’s anyone else in europe who are close to replicating it its the germans.older german teams have used it alot with ballack being a master but its yet to be seem if the young germans can replicate it…

  155. agirlagunner says:

    Hello, Shrek! Welcome!

rico, you have another prospective writer! You draw really good ones in here. And I mean nothing even remotely self-aggrandizing by that.

  156. oliver says:

stv/rico, i think almunia is virtually finished at arsenal. i say this because i think that phw’s admission we submitted a bid for schwarzer was an indirect response to almunia’s recent comments to the effect that he is not worried about his position. we usually do not discuss rebuffed bids (other than arsene’s “i almost signed so and so three years ago” nonsense he occasionally brings up). almunia may still be at arsenal come august 14th, but i would be surprised if he remains in the first team. perhaps we will try and bring another experienced keeper in, but i expect arsene to go with fabianski at the start of the season. that would not make me happy – i do not rate fabianski and think he needs to go elsewhere to rebuild his confidence – but i cannot see arsene ringing me up for my advice on this!!

  157. Suhail.TV says:

Serbs or Germs could end England’s hopes..

  158. Erick says:

Oliver I think Al said that after PHW had talked about the bid Stv Ghana have a chance of toping the group

  159. rico says:

That’s my aim agag, then i can go on holiday for a month and leave Avenell Road in the safe hands of others 😆

STV, i saw some of the Fed game, he got real lucky, but yes, a true champion to come back the way he did…

  160. oliver says:

erick, you’re correct. i saw your post and checked and apparently al made those comments in response to phw quotes. that certainly changes how i view phw’s comments and puts al’s position in a different perspective than i had previously taken. if we start the season with either fab or al in goal, we are already putting ourselves at a disadvantage. if arsene does not want to give up on fab, then move him away from the first team, but do not keep both failures in the first team.

  161. K-TR7 says:

Rico why leave?its the lovely ladies in here that balance out the blog nicely.this blog is never the same without you…

  162. Suhail.TV says:

Sure Erick.. and I really think they can hold the germs.. Algeria played well.. Didn’t they?

  163. Red Arse says:

    Rico oh great one,

I have searched my Red Arse (email that is)assiduously, but no message or carrier pigeon has emerged. 😦

I will take a shufti later.

Erick, your 4:46, thank you sir. 🙂 Go Ghana, go!

  164. Erick says:

A keeper Oliver is amust Aw would make the greatest mistake if he doesn’t get a keeper I would get a keeper over J.Cole

  165. Suhail.TV says:

KTR7 is right..Rico.. Blog is more imp than saline water and sand.. 🙂

  166. Shrek says:

Thank you for all your responses, its my first post on any forum related to Arsenal and I am glad to see that it evoked some comments from all of you good people.
Thanks for your kind words agirlagunner & rico .

K-TR7, I agree with you on that, although AA seems quite selfish on the ball and unwilling to pass. I would take that as a great quality and a mark of confidence in his own abilities. But it certainly doesn’t do him any good when he carelessly defends in his own half often giving the ball away trying to be cheeky . About RVP, I don’t see him strike fear into the opposition’s heart like Henry/Rooney/Ronaldo(both) etc. It will take some time and quite some good fortune to see him not getting injured in a whole season.

I was just seeing a video on interview with Arsene wenger and Ferguson at a social do together.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXAljmnaH7c. Here Wenger says that he missed signing out on C.Ronaldo due to difference in evaluation of a few hundred thousand pounds. Sometimes his stinginess affects the team badly. There’s always a what-if situation going on in the minds of the fans on the players he often ends up missing out on. Also he looks towards France far too often. I agree that it has paid dividends often , but its time look for new pastures, especially in South America and the rest of Europe. I wouldn’t mind Jovetic from Fiorentina or Pjanic from Lyon cooming here.

  167. Erick says:

Stv all African teams lack the cutting edge play good footie and no end product RA be easy on the partying we need your contribution here tomorrow

  168. rico says:

You are all too kind, but sunny shores favour me one day, but not soon 😦 😦

You are stuck with me!! 😉

RA, I’ll check my email and make sure it went ok.. 😦

Shrek, seriously, the more the merrier and we all have one big thing in common, Arsenal, glad we are your first that you have got involved in…. now your here, you won’t be allowed to leave 😉

  169. Erick says:

Shrek your name sounds familiar but nice comment AA was my worst player of the season together with Al and Flappy even though JJ and KTR7 think otherwise he was too lazy

  170. rico says:

i have to pop and water the garden next door, back in a while …

  171. oliver says:

erick, i agree. pre-season optimism will dissipate rapidly if either al or fab runs out on the anfield pitch behind our captain. now i wonder if the schwarzer business was a cursory bid designed to show supporters the club is “trying” to improve the goalkeeper position. i sincerely hope that is not the case….there is still time to bring a new keeper in, so hopefully something will happen.

  172. Erick says:

    Rico 🙂 🙂

  173. Erick says:

Until we see it on arse.com we have reason to worry Oliver as Shrek points out one mill can make us miss out on a great talent he has so many options he has to get into the market and get one

  174. Suhail.TV says:

Erick lets collect a million and give it to wenger if he again gonna miss a keeper for that..

  175. oliver says:

actually, i don’t think a few million will necessary cost us a keeper. i think if nobody is brought in, it will be because arsene still believes the two he has are up to the job….for me, that would be worse than franc pinching….

  176. JonJon says:

    evening guys..

wasnt henry frances top scorer at euro 2000 when they won it?

and he was their top scorer when they won the wc in 98..

i think he did turn it on in the big matches..but i liked your comment shrek 😉 just disagree with the opening lines..

  177. JonJon says:

erick i think AA is a world class player..

i watched him for two years before he joined us and he won games by himself..

he was voted 6th best player in the world when we got him and that showed in his first half season with us he was terrific

i dont know what hapened last season..he looked dis interested and could have been down to a number of things but one things for sure if AA turns it on arsenal win matches…

  178. Suhail.TV says:

Hello jj 🙂 How was England’s play

  179. rico says:

Yo, jj, how’s your day been…

STV, same old England, just a defoe lucky shin 😉

  180. JonJon says:

    hey suhail..

i dunno mate i was at work..i missed it..the media are going on like we where world class but the scoreline begs to differ..

  181. rico says:

But jj, he only turns it on against the dippers, hope he’s fit for the opening day of the season 😉

  182. rico says:

jj, we were not world class by a long long way, milner was better, rooney just isnt himself – james played well and terry was solid…

  183. rico says:

oh, and we could have conceded at any time – the best player was the fans… they were awesome…

  184. Shrek says:

Another thing that perplexes me about Wenger is his policy of sending players away on loan to learn their trade before putting them in the 1st team. Its certainly admirable to help them mature without the pressures and expectations of 1st team football. But one should remember that the best players are often the ones who break into the 1st team early and get going and continue growing from there. Normally the best ones have a great maturity about them. For e.g Take the case of Cesc fabregas . He slotted into the 1st team right away in his 1st season which was very highly unusual for a foreign under 18 player and he has taken himself to greater heights. Look at others like Messi, Ronaldo (both),legends like Pele and Cryuff and others. All srated young in their respective club’s first teams right away well under the age of 18.
So either Arsenal’s youth players aren’t good enough mentally & ability-wise or Wenger doesn’t know how to think.
I highly doubt its the latter so its clearly the former for me.

Jonjon, thanks for your comments . Henry was top scorer for France in WC 98 but he scored only 3 goals which is hardly anything and if you check the rest of his record at other WC’s he hasn’t done much.
he has scored around 3 goals in 2006 and 3 in Euro 2k. Thats hardly a return from one of the best strikers in the world.

  185. agirlagunner says:

Shrek, now you’re on, it is imperative that rico find another name for Roney. 😛 Keep coming back!

KT, you ARE a smooth one. 🙂 And I can smell a post on furbizia…

Weeds, which GK do you have in mind?

oliver, there is no hope for us if Flappy & the Spanish Waiter continue to mind the keep. Sadly.

Hi, JJ and bye JJ. I am not sure about the Henry stats, but he did score against Italy in the pen shootout in the 98 WC 2nd round. In order: ZZ, Trez, Titi, Lizarazu (miss) and Blanc. This is completely irrelevant to the discussion but do I tend to remember anthing Trez. 🙂

    Night, all. Must sleep!

  186. JonJon says:

    they normally are rico

its a shame about the fellas in the jerseys they cheering for..

  187. K-TR7 says:

JJ i think one of the things aw and his coaching staff is to work out how to maximise AA’s effeciency in preseason.he is a very rare breed of a footballer and if he is on point goals will come.i think AA’s role will change next season but it all depends on the signings we make…

  188. Suhail.TV says:

Really, Terry made some mistakes slovenia could get a penalty in the dying minuts.. Rico,England team in last WC was the strongest I saw ..Now almost the same team.. only getting 4 yrs older… also the replacements are bad!!

  189. rico says:

    nighty night agag… i’ll have a think on rooney…

shrek, good point about loans, i think he sends the ‘dodgy’ ones out and then looks to see how they fare, hoping at the same time they will fetch a price – but wilshere kind of baffles me with that theory …

  190. Erick says:

JJ I just don’t see it in AA 🙂 may be its because I never saw him often before we signed him

  191. JonJon says:

    i always miss you AGAG

i hate to see you go…but id love to watch you leave 😉

yeah trust me AGAG jj is always right ;)and your right re the shootout lizzy missed..

henry was frances top scorer when they won the 98 and 2000 cups..

  192. rico says:

STV, terry was dodgy at the beginning, but made some impotant last ditch tackles… jj said the other night, this will be the end of an era for england, but the future has to be better….

jj, i gripes me to cheer my country, a team of mainly has beens…

  193. rico says:

Erick, AA was good before we signed him 😉

    jj = tart 😉

  194. Suhail.TV says:

What abought Diaby Denilsen … … Regular first timers

  195. rico says:

STV, they shouldn’t be loaned, they should be sold….

  196. JonJon says:

ktr i think AA is a free spirit..but at arsenal, especially last year, he was being confined to one role, which he didnt appreciate..

he seems the moody rebelious type, which isnt a good thing when your not playing well..

but on form he cant be stopped..im just hoping last season was a one off and bounces back..otherwise he can piss off..

  197. JonJon says:

theres no point loaning double D out..

theyve had 3-4 years in the first team if they arent good enough now they wont be good enough when they come back..

  198. Suhail.TV says:

The same Wenger slotted that 3(Almn too) in fist team for 3-4 years which was a crime..

  199. rico says:

wenger has slotted a few in over the years that has been a crime STV, Cygan, Stepanvos are just two who sping to mind…

  200. Shrek says:

rico , the thing abt wilshere may be that wenger might have considered him too lightweight to be in the EPL, so unusually he had him sent to Bolton, one of the most -pardon my words, I don’t mean any offense-typical English teams in the EPL to toughen him up. I think it worked to an extent. but I feel wilshere is too left footed. The players who are just one footed only succeed in 2 situations – either the player is outrageously talented like Maradona or Messi – or his team is good and the opposition is weak.

  201. Suhail.TV says:

5 long years of experimentation.. but no desired result..may be for him but not to the fans..If indications are correct we are moving to same path this season too.. what can we do exept hoping ither wise…:(

  202. JonJon says:

the difference is rico is that the wenger of old got rid of those players..he kept them for one or two seasons and said see ya later bye bye to the likes of stepanovs, shabaan, wreh, boa morte, cyan,

now he just keeps them all in case they come good..hes lost his ruthless streak and thats where hes gone wrong..

almunia would have never been allowed to make the mistakes he has made 6-7 years ago…wenger would have got rid but he knows replacing him will cost money and wenger dont like spending anymore so almunia keeps his place

  203. Suhail.TV says:

Acc to Wenger loan was a finishing school for Wilshere.. He send him to finish it up and allowed the likes of Diaby and Denilsen to creep in our midfield.. he did another cime there by sending him

  204. JonJon says:

changing the subject a little but theres a tennis match going on at the minute and they in the 3rd set and its 40-41..theyve played 81 games and its still going on..

wtf..just toss a coin or have a fight or something..dont subject ppl to this….

  205. Suhail.TV says:

    crime

  206. rico says:

Shrek, i see where you are coming from but the oppo is the same on a match day, unless its to eat pies and fatten up a bit 😉

if wenger thinks the training is harder and he will learn more then surely that is admitting the training at arsenal has its flaws…

  207. JonJon says:

what i dont get is why wenger sends wilshire on loan to get experience but didnt send denilson or diaby on loan..

if its good enough for denilson its good enough for jack

  208. rico says:

jj, i watching it, 7.5 hours its been going on, its already in the record books…

thats why we all want the old wenger back, get rid of some rubbish and use the money to rebuild… i wish the board would untie that collar from his neck…

  209. rico says:

hey jj, 5th set buddy and 81 games is only the fith set 😉

    ‘Heads’ 🙂

  210. Suhail.TV says:

between whome jj..It must be tediously exiting

  211. Suhail.TV says:

Rico you are very professional.. 🙂

  212. rico says:

Not really STV, in fact not at all 😉

  213. JonJon says:

he makes them money rico…they wont do shit..

hes currently surviving on past glories and the fact he gets us into the CL by making 46mil profit every year..

i suppose is shows he greatness cos other teams are having to spend that to get into cl but just imagine what we could do if we spent that money instead of pocketing it and its that what pisses me off..

the manager and the board carry on like its their money but it aint its ours..without us they wouldnt make it so we deserve to see it put back into the teams… not saved for a rainy day and be forced to watch average players and be told two out of four trophies arent important although we aint good enough for the other 2 and 3rd place is a trophy..

its one big massive con and they are stupid to think ppl are stupid enough to believe them..although some blogs and bloggers still do….

  214. rico says:

I’ve never heard of the two players STV, i think one is french as someone made comment about the french footie side would have done better with his kind of attitude….

its only the first round of wimbledon, they could have played three ladies matches in the time this has taken, hope it doesn’t rain 😉

  215. rico says:

jj, sadly i know this time you are right 😉

i think thats what pisses me off so, we do so so well on a skimpy budget, if we just spent another 20 million a year we would be winning everything…

  216. JonJon says:

    135 games in total rico..

im switching it over now though i cant take no more its like suhail said its tediuos..

ive got some pieces of corn that urgently need gluing back onto the cob.. 😉

  217. Suhail.TV says:

A nice Holmes way to understand the country Rico..,OK then Am off see you tomorrow..Take care.. jj too

  218. JonJon says:

    see ya suhail..

  219. rico says:

Night STV, have a good one, enjoy the match later…

good luck with the corn jj 😉

Im off too, want to go watch Ghana stuff the Germans 😉

    See you all tomorrow,

    stay safe 🙂

  220. rico says:

before i go, good news is that Lorient propose to play Coquelin in CM, that has to be better for him, and for us long term, he isn’t a RB as long as i have a hole in my sock 😉

    Moscow 😉

  221. JonJon says:

    toodles my dear..

  222. rico says:

toodles to you too my dear 😉

  223. avenell says:

Just watched that tennis game… It was like watching Denilson play Denilson…

Great stats but no end product.. 🙂

  224. rico says:

    Morning all

    new one up
