Sick of Lardy, sick of Davids, sick of trumpets but the French have grown some balls!!

Anyone else sick to the teeth of seeing Lardybayor and Edgar Davids on your television screen reporting on the World Cup??

Lardybayor, the player who ran almost as quick as Ussain Bolt just to taunt the fans who once sang his name on our screens is not right, why not get Lee Bowyer as well, they both seem to like inciting violence…

Davids??? If they want a Dutch Pro, why not Bergkamp or Rijkaard, not bloody Davids, or am I just biased as he once played for that side down the road from us??  Most of the other pundits are equally as boring, except Lee Dixon of course 😉

In fact is anyone else out there bored with this whole competition? The football has been very average and has in my view failed to live up to all the hype….

I’m also sick and tired of watching football when all I hear is those bloody horns – it’s deafening and annoying, just like a constant toothache, goodness knows how it must be for the fans at the game who have to hear that din for a couple of hours!!

Seriously, I really hope the football gets a tad more exciting over the next few days/weeks as it’s not a good advert for the beautiful game and next week we’ll be getting four games a day… YAWN!

I chuckled yesterday when I read the latest tale of woe coming from the French Camp, Anelka, despite being quite old now, has once again thrown his toys out of his pram and had a war of words with Mr Thunderbird, Raymond Domenech. Must have been a tasty spat as the sulky one is being sent home on an early flight sometime today. At least Henry might get a game now…. Just one though as I strongly suspect the rest of the French squad will be following Anelka home in the next day or two…

Seriously, I can’t wait for this World Cup to be over and done with. The most important football for me is Arsenal and while this is going on we are all waiting for the next man in. That won’t happen until Wenger gets his arse back in London and starts sorting our team out. The Koleiscy guy looks like a done deal, just the small print to be read one more time, but we all know, he and Chamakh are not enough to get us back in the fight for the right to be crowned Premier League Champions next seasons.

Wenger needs to get home and get on with sorting out the future of the club who pays his wages. Start putting the fans minds at rest!!

Do that Arsene and we may like you again 😉

Get the impression i’m grumpy? I am, and fed up with seeing so-called super star footballers play such rubbish football…. Fed up with not hearing that we have signed a big mother chuffer in defence, a big lump in midfield and a new keeper….

I have carried these two over from earlier this morning….

From yesterdays post – Oliver said

rico, I am looking back at the posts from earlier today, and in your 4:10PM post, you made reference to Xabi Alonso. I have heard this story several times and I have always felt it is urban legend, kind of a myth, something Myles Palmer was fed, and something he subsequently spun as a means to bash AW. It is established that a couple of seasons ago, Benitez was looking to buy Gareth Barry from Villa, and if he were able to get Barry, Alonso would become expendable. However….Is there any actual proof that SERIOUS negotations to acquire Alonso ever took place? I accept that Alonso would have been happy to join Arsenal if he was replaced at Liverpool, and I think Cesc spoke openly how much he would like to have Alonso at the club. But I have a difficult time believing that Benitez, knowing Alonso’s qualities, would turn around and flog him off to one of Liverpool’s top four rivals. If he really wanted to sell him, would it not make more sense to negotiate with one of the top Spanish clubs? They were aware of Alonso, knew his qualities. Benitez would most likely get a better transfer fee from Spain and Alonso would not line up against his Liverpool side in domestic competition twice a season. Another thing that makes me suspicious is one of the reasons the “negotiations” allegedly broke down: Arsenal supposedly balked at paying a few million more than their alleged ceiling. Supporters frustrated at our transfer dealings often like to cite stinginess on AW and the board’s part – it seems awfully convenient to me that one of the big frustrations people have with our “front office” is the alleged unwillingness to pay big transfer fees, as this issue is a stick supporters (and Myles) often use to bash AW. To my knowledge, nobody at Arsenal has denied the reports – but except in the instance of the recent Cesc bid, and PHW’s comments on Schwarzer, they usually keep their counsel on these issues. Note that I am not saying that the Alonso thing did not happen – just that I have not seen anything to indicate there were serious negotiations with Liverpool and that he was on the verge of transferring to Arsenal. Again, perhaps this information has been corroborated and I have just not seen it. In the absence of such corroboration, I am very skeptical that we were ever close to signing Xabi Alonso, and I further that the story was fabricated as an opportunity to take shots at AW and our board for transfer market inactivity.

    JonJon said….

    hey oliver..

    disagree about alonso..

rafa wanted barry, but rick parry went and spunked his transfer kitty on robbie keane..

in order for barry to move to liverpool rafa had to raise the funds..aston villa wanted 18mil for barry so rafa were looking for around the same for alonso..

but as normal wenger pissed about bidding something like 11mil at the very last minute on deadline day..expecting livepool to sell..

    two problems with this..

1…by bidding near the transfer deadline, wenger left rafa with naff all time to close a deal for barry

2..by bidding about 7million short of what rafa wanted, rafa wasnt able to afford barry anyway…

the result was that rafa told wenger to stick it…and we missed out on one of the PL’s best midfielders for a few poxy quid..

its a myth that the alonso deal depended on the barry deal…the truth of it is that the barry deal depended on the alonso deal..wenger didnt give rafa enough time or money to be able to do the deal for barry so they kept alonso..

i know some people like to defend wenger but i can assure you AW messed that one right up..

  3. rico says:

    Morning all…

Oliver, i’m with jj on the Alonso muck up – I think he was ‘just another’ player the club were too tight to pay the right amount.

  4. rico says:

The paps report that Cesc is distraught at being left on the bench for Spain….

Well Cesc, if you leave you better get used to it as i suspect you will see a bit more of the bench for Barca…

  5. JonJon says:

    morning rico..

    😉 mother chuffers 😉

the thing i want to know from this anelka fall out is who is the ‘rat’ evra was talking about??? it wasnt anelka..

i want to know if its an arsenal player…

  6. JonJon says:

    poor cesc..

think he should use his bench time to reflect on his future and consider things a little more seriously..

  7. rico says:

morning jj, i haven’t seen much on the evra stuff, but, from what i gather it was over the captaincy and gallas a bit upset that evra got the armband, maybe it was him?

  8. JonJon says:

    rico

    re the alonso thing..

its also one of the reasons i was pissed off we paid 5 mil for ramsey…

why spend 5 mil on a 17 year old when youve just lost gilberto, flamini, hleb..and that extra 5 mil would have helped get alonso..the finished article..

its taken us two years to get over that cock up and we are set to be in the same situation all over again with the defence..

  9. rico says:

jj, seen the rumours that wenger wants TV’s old partner in defence from Ajax??

  10. JonJon says:

evra did an interview on french TV yesterday in full support of anelka..

he said there was a ‘traitor’ in the dressing room who leaked the story to the press about anelka and its the rat thats unsettling the squad..

    anelkas the scapegoat..

evra says he knows who he is and so does everyone else but he wont mention him..

it wouldnt surprise me if it was gallas..

  11. rico says:

you and me both, yes ramsey is going to be good, but at that time alonso was more important, we all wanted him, cesc wanted him and obviously wenger wanted him. but its always been the same, we offer peanuts for players who have a ‘proper value’ and then we so often here the ‘i tried for him…’ blah blah blah…

even with this koliescy (havent got his spelling right yet) fella, his club valued him at £8M i think, we offer around half the value…

i understand why he wont pay over the top but sometimes he is just very silly…

  12. JonJon says:

i seen them romours a few days ago..

wenger apparently wants van der veil as well..

in all honestly though id be happy if wenger got this polish-french bloke AND tv’s ex partner..

  13. rico says:

i thought anelka was going home as his had an almighty row with ‘thurderbirds’ at half time having been subbed – domenech threw his toys and ran to the french fa…

i bet its gallas too, evra is a stiring little git though, i hope they get beat and all leave early. wenger should follow them too

  14. rico says:

me too, that would give us a strong defence with JD in there too, wenger would be able to rotate with confidence for a change and not burn them all out..

  15. JonJon says:

    yeah rico..

i can understand him trying to save pennies when we were struggling with cash but what gets my goat is silly signings of youngsters that take money away from the transfer kitty and refusal to budge over 1.25 mil quid..

if accrington stanley want 10 million for their polish-french bloke then wenger should just give them it..especially if weve offered just short of 9mil…

i mean come one whats a million quid???? we can compete with chelsea for transfers now so what we pissing about for???

  16. rico says:

    😆 jj, AS

Another problem for me is signing players like Silvestre, Bishcoff etc – yes they are free but they are also crap. We then pay them a big wage, what a waste of money, and we are meant to be skint…

players like joe cole are different, he’s proven and he’s still have five years at the top…

the mancs release Silvestre as he’s not good enough for them, wtf is he good enough for us??

  17. JonJon says:

i like how the media has turned on capello…

six months ago his discipline had sorted the team out got rid of the egos and made england a machine…

now his methods are unsettling the players

    unbelievable…

    you couldnt make it up..

heres a theory..how about capello is a shit hot manager and his methods do work although he messed up his last game…and the england players just cant handle the pressure of a massive tournament cos they are spoiled brats…as always..

  18. rico says:

Bet if England don’t qualify, Capello quits and goes to manage the dippers!!

  19. rico says:

england are crap jj, capello has taken too many of the wrong players imho, but you are right, last month he was better than sven, yesterday sven was the best… makes me laugh…

  20. JonJon says:

if england dont qualify it will be the end of an era..

the next generation of players will come through

    hart, cahill, johnston, milner..

then england will become my second team again…

  21. rico says:

Me too, i cant stand watching them at the moment, its full of over paid thugs and cheats…

I couldn’t care less if we qualify or not to be honest, i guess the further we go the more knackered the players will be for next season 😉

i like cahill jj, i still hope we get him, you missed theo off of your list for the future 😉

  22. Erick says:

Howdy friends hope you had a fabulous nite. Song is coming back home 😦 and Nikky hit the net the games are boring i agree hope tonight it will be different

  23. JonJon says:

i was hoping you wouldnt spot that rico 😉

  24. Erick says:

The French team is in dissary they seem to be going home before Anelka lands in france they have the players but no coach same as Argetina

  25. rico says:

Hi Erick, I’m sad for Cameroon, but on the brighter note Song will be fresh for the start of the season 😉

If Cameroon had a top notch goal scorer they would have thrashed the Danes, how many chances?? I thought Song was the best player on the pitch….

  26. JonJon says:

    hey up erick…

at least song will be fresh for next year..only played one game..can now get a rest

  27. Deano says:

Jon jon you say its only a million qui. Then bemoan the signing of young players who cost less and will be worth a lot more in the future! We bought ramsey for 5 mil as he is going to be one of the best midfielders in the prem and a replacement for fabregas which we would have pay 20 for otherwise!

  28. Erick says:

True guys played his hurt out but you can count on the two spuds Bassong and Ekoto to play crap. I must admit Nikky is showing some form he was unmarkable and nice movement on and off the ball

  29. JonJon says:

deano if we’d have put that 5mil to buying alonso we’d of had a player ready to play now…

your post just recognises us a selling club and for a top european side that is unnaceptable..ajax didnt stay at the top selling all their best players did they??? and the fact we havent won nothing for 5 years suggests the trend is not only applicable to ajax..

we already have a youth system in place so why do we persist in buying more youngsters for silly prices when the first team urgently needs experience and ready made quality..

the term ‘lets buy a young player so we can sell him for mega bucks in 10 years time’ is a wengerism and its negative and it doesnt win you trophies…

you buy players to win you things you dont buy them to make a profit on them in future..

  30. Erick says:

    Hurt = heart 🙂

  31. rico says:

Hi Deano, at that time and still now, we need experience, what a club like ours should be doing, is getting both Alonso and Ramsey…

  32. rico says:

Erick, Nikki always does well for the danes, he needs to play like that for his club too 😉

  33. rico says:

Bassong was rubbish, glad we didn’t get him….

  34. Erick says:

Our defence is crap at the moment and we have already bought 3 kids whats the point and Aw will say money was the problem thats not a team thats wants to win trophies

  35. Erick says:

Rico Mbia had an average game too but the spuds my oh my Ekotto was at fault for both of the game. If I may ask is the Mexican Dos santos a good player or what is he still a spud?

  36. JonJon says:

hes still on spuds books i think erick..

he was awesome at barca i dont know what happened to him at spuds..probably cos he signed for the spuds..it automatically makes him shit.. 😉

  37. agirlagunner says:

    Hola, rico, jj, erick, deano.

rico, patience is a virtue. 🙂 But I commiserate with your Lardy and Davids plaint. I could never find find the patience for either.

We’ll get a couple of signings, I have a good feeling. Not the Torreses, and VDVs and Affelays though. But then, too costly has never been AW’s style. But news of bringing in Vertonghen sounds good! It’s due and proper reward for TV5.

JJ, Domenech deserves even worse than he’s getting. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘rat’ turns out to be Gallas. Recidivism and all that. 😛

Erick, I was cheering on Cameroon and deflated when Rommedahl scored the second for the Danes. Song was fantastic, wasn’t he?

I hope the French exit soon. Too many of ours are there.

  38. JonJon says:

    bonjour mon senorita 😉

hi AGAG im having second thoughts on big willy being the culprit..

evra said the rat went running to the media and big willy said before the WC he wasnt going to speak to any of them so dont bother to ask..

    mmmmmmm

    the mystery deepens…

  39. JonJon says:

    lol AGAG

‘too many of ours are there’..maybe thats the problem with us..we have too many of ‘them’ 😉

  40. Erick says:

Morning Agag hope you had a fantastic nite 🙂 JJ am thinking he is the box to box MF we should buy he is awesome with ball runs for 90mins we should get him. Agag re france the are coming home soon very soon 🙂

  41. Erick says:

What’s the latest news on Kosciely (spelling) thought he said he wants to join us what happening

  42. agirlagunner says:

The French NT has been downhill since Zizou retired… At least when he was there, the Frenchies were capable of the magical. Oh and Trez.

Ow, JJ. Clichy isn’t bad. I luv Clichy. It’s Diaby we need to sort out.

Evra shouldn’t have gone blabbing to the press about the blabber either. It only brings under the klieg lights their lack of any solidarity blah blah blah.

  43. JonJon says:

the rumour about Tv’s old mate at Ajax is picking up pace..

sky sports and sevaral red tops have said we are close to signing him..

  44. JonJon says:

    erick..

the french polish bloke has said he has met with wenger and he wants to come but the clubs cant agree a fee..

acrington stanley want 10 mil but we wont improve our 9.9999999mil offer so i dont know if hes coming..

  45. agirlagunner says:

Weeds, I think we’ll sign Koscielny. Football is bad for my already bad sleeping habits. I think I went to bed 6 am. 😦

  46. JonJon says:

    i love clichy too AGAG..

but clichy is frances third choice LB..and he hasnt been much cop since 2008..i prefer gibbs if im honest..

    same defensively…but better going forward..

  47. Erick says:

Jj thats what i was just reading and thought oh just another rumour but its everywhere mmmmh Aw promised before the world cup Agag Diaby and Sagna he was poor on their second game

  48. Erick says:

Guys but we need two CH so the polish guy and TV’s ajax partner might be it for us the keeper might be the remaining part

  49. Davi says:

I think the decision to make evra captain has had a damaging effect on the harmony in the french squad. Obviously no one likes domenech much anyway, but giving that honour to evra cant have helped. He called arsenal a team of babies in the media, and now he has to play with a few of them for his national team.
Hes obviously an extremely good player, but nothing about him suggests captain material. He, himself can be petulant and childish on the pitch and in his comments to the media. Why domenech didnt just give it to toulalan is beyond me.

  50. JonJon says:

    i dont mind sagna..

i think hes the best defensive RB in the PL..

i know loads of manu fans that want him at OT..

sagnas problem is that hes rubbish going forward so if we want to get the best of sagna we need a proper winger…

but theres the conundrem…wenger dont do wingers..

  51. Erick says:

Agag you refused my offer of miraa (khat) 🙂

  52. agirlagunner says:

JJ, I like Gibbs too, he’s big and strong and solid, but right now, I would still start Clichy over him.

Gibbsy’s mistake in the CL semis v. the Mancs last year was costly; and Clichy had a couple of indifferent games when he returned but was excellent in the first leg of the CL match against Barca this year. He had Messi in his pocket.

  53. JonJon says:

    yeah erick..

i think if wenger gets these two CB’s we are sorted defensively.. 20mil well spent

chamakakakakaka and cole on freebies..good business

all we need now is a top GK and a midfieild dynamo..

  54. Erick says:

Jj true Aw turns strikers to wingers I don’t understand this man. Jj on a lighter note we can swap him(Sagna) for Valencia 🙂

  55. agirlagunner says:

Davi, hear, hear. At one time, Evra even said he would go wild or something if he were to meet YKW off the pitch (he felt hard done by some robust challenges from our soon-to-be former Captain). So who’s the baby again? He talks too much is his problem.

  56. JonJon says:

    davi

good comment..i think evra is a tosser although he his the best LB in the PL..

but i think the french team are over rated anyway..lots of crap players not in the same league as their predecessors..

i think blanc will be favorite for the job when domenech takes off on his space ship to go live on pluto and i expect to see a massive shakeup..

  57. Erick says:

Agag I know why you like Clichy 😉 but a friend of mine told me he saw him in his range rover with 6 girls 🙂

  58. Davi says:

agirlagunner – I think gibbs is going to be incredible very soon. He seems to have ashley cole’s defensive concentration, aggression and reading of the game, but combined with a skill level that any midfielder would be proud of, something that isn’t really true of cole, although he is good in that dept as well.
Gibb’s mistake against Utd came very early in his career in a massive game. It was more unfortunate than him actually doing anything wrong, anyone can slip, but it was noticeable how well he recovered from that. Most of the mistakes gibbs did make defensively when he first came into the side were actually just because he is quite weak for the PL, and some attackers were bullying him a bit, but that’s something that can be rectified relatively easily. That kid has absolutely everything you could want in a LB and maybe even a midfielder.
To be honest I’d consider using him in central midfield because hes very aggressive in the tackle and is a good passer – which is just what we’re missing really!

  59. agirlagunner says:

Erick your khat/miraa, from all accounts, seems to be a prohibited drug. 😛 Come up with something else!

  60. Erick says:

Domenech left out quality players from the French squad thats what he did wrong

  61. JonJon says:

clichy makes the same mistakes as gibbs though defensively..they both have problems with positioning..

that goal in the semis wasnt down to inexperience or lack of talent he just slipped..could happen to anyone..

but the thing what edges it for me is that gibbsy is better going forward..

clichys more explosive but cant cross for toffee and he panics alot..rarely makes the right choice..

gibbs is a converted winger..he can dribble pass and cross..

they the same defensively..but gibbsy can cross..and hes young enough to develop a solid defensive game..

in my opinion hes on a par with clichy and he will be better than clichy in a year so lets not hold him back..play him..

  62. JonJon says:

erick..you should do what i do and use the drug of love..

its free and its not illegal and women love to be loved..even if you dont really mean it 😉

  63. Erick says:

Agag only in the US 🙂 Davi Gibbs and traore can play as left sided wingers Aw should try that

  64. agirlagunner says:

You’re right Davi. Gibbs will be smashing soon. (not ankles or bones, I hope):) How is his metatarsal injury? I don’t remember having read anything about it recently.

  65. Davi says:

Erick – Id rather see wenger give vela a REAL shot on the wing.
Traore can develop into a good LB as well, but will take a bit longer imo. Going forward he’s excellent from LB, but I’ve never seen him look effective as a winger. Its like how eboue plays like dani alves when at RB, but struggles to have the same impact on the wing.
Currently though I think Gibbs should be put in midfield. He has a lot of energy, aggression and even playmaking skills, so I think he’d do well there. It is a problem position anyway, so it’s worth trying him out there.

  66. Erick says:

Ha ha ha ha JJ i take your offer 🙂 🙂

  67. JonJon says:

    davi

i think it would be better to put Gibbs at LB and clichy in CM as clichy has a non stop workrate..stamina is clichys ace card and thats wht we miss in the center of the park….

then again…i also think it would be better to just go out and buy a player for a problem position seeing as though we can now compete with chelsea..

  68. Davi says:

agirlagunner – I havent heard anything either. I’m sure he’ll be back for next season..

  69. rico says:

Sorry, doorbell rang… 😦 off to catch up with the comments…

  70. Davi says:

JJ – gibbs has played in the middle before though, and he has demonstrated his passing range in the carling cup before, so he can do more than just tackling, whereas I think clichy is more specialised to LB cos he cant do much more than tackle and dribble up the wing.
Gibbs will overtake him in that position soon I think.
I agree it would be better to sign a new midfielder for the position (toulalan would be great) but even so, I think it would be worth trying gibbs there. I think he’d do better than denilson at least.

  71. rico says:

    Hi agag and Davi 🙂

  72. Davi says:

    Hi rico

  73. rico says:

I’d play Traore at LW in the right games, he has everything, pace, abilty to cross and the abilty to get his butt back to defend – not suggesting his ‘everything’ is at the higest level, but he’s a winger…

  74. agirlagunner says:

Six girls? Six girls? He must have a lot of stamina, our Clichy.

    And JJ, @ 10:54. You’re awful. Hahaha. Poor lady/ladies. 😛

Davi, interesting observations about Gibbs. He does provide good service when he plays for the reserves. I much prefer him to the Mancs’ da Silva. Traore cannot defend, I think. And he is frequently insipid. But then again, as rico has previously pointed out, AW does employ our players out of position.

  75. JonJon says:

i think gibbs is naturally suited to the wider role..

i dont know about toulalan i dont want anymore french fries at arsenal..

i like the look of those african lads though..very energetic and powerful..some of them can actually play too..

    annan? mbia?

i dont really care how skillful they are as long as they can run like the wind for 90mins and tackle like a tank they’ll do..

basically we need another flamini..an essien type destroyer to protect that defence..

  76. agirlagunner says:

    Boo, rico!

  77. Erick says:

Davi would like to see ho Gibbs does in the middle of the pack and hoping Vela can play more games and buy Dos Santos to make him happy. Gibbs is okay Agag now that you can get Clichy your on to Gibbs whats with you and our Left backs 😉

  78. K-TR7 says:

Morning all.i agree with jj sagna is an excellent rb.very few goals result from his errors.clichy on the other hand when on form he is quite formidable when on form but when off form he is a liability.gibbs has a midfielders brain and when he beefs up and with additional experience he will be the best lb in europe.

  79. Erick says:

Rico lucky you RA is not around he would have used the door bell agains you in the court of law 🙂 Toulalan mmmmh I would rather Annan of Ghana

  80. Davi says:

@ JJ – I like some of the african players, but if we signed another in midfield that would destroy the spine of our side every time the ACN comes around, although admittedly it doesnt take up THAT much time, but it is a distraction, and can cause unnecessary inuries/tiredness.

@agirlagunner – I thought traore did pretty well this year. Some games when the team was poor as a whole I thought he was our best player. He only really had a couple of poor games, but defensively he looks much more concentrated than before his loan to portsmouth and is much improved. If he can continue to improve like that I think he’ll be a great LB. I dont think he is out of position at LB? I was always under the impression that was his natural position and they were considering converting him to LW. I can see why theyd think he could be good there, but it doesnt always work that way. Playing further forward means you need to know how to find space, and Ive never seen armand look as effective going forward when he plays on the wing.

  81. Erick says:

Howdy K-tr7 Kjaer of Denmark is a good player very solid

  82. agirlagunner says:

Nah, Erick. Clichy is a favorite. And we are all unreasonable about our favorites. One of these days, I fear it will be soon, I will unfavorite YKW. (I do bring him up a lot, I know.)

Annan is excellent, Erick. I agree. 🙂

rico, you do seem to be having a lot of doorbell buzzers! 🙂

  83. rico says:

spot on jj, no more frenchies or spanish, who just want to go home one day, hard nuts we need now…

  84. Davi says:

JJ – I think gibbs CAN be that kind of destroyer (missed that part of your comment before)
Maybe he lacks a little bit in the stamina, but he is extremely quick and seems to love tackling! What’s more he can pass as well!
Eastmond or coquelin could develop into this type of player as well, but obviously aren’t quite ready yet.

  85. JonJon says:

    davi

ive always shared the same theory about the ACN

but im lead to believe they are moving the tournament to the summer months..

erick you know anything about that?????

  86. rico says:

    😆 agag

watching the Cameroon guys last night I couldn’t believe just how fit and athletic everyone of them were. Never gave up and gave everything for thei team mates and country – bassong was poor but didn’t stop him trying…

with the acon moving to the summer, i would much rather we sign an african player than a soft european…

  87. Davi says:

JJ – if theyr moving the tournament then there are definitely a few players from the african nations who could improve our squad. Annan, you mentioned, is definitely the sort of player I’d like to see us get. We have been heavily linked with him in the past as well.

  88. rico says:

spooky jj, it is moving, 2011/12 (i think) there will be successvive tounaments but after that back to the usual set up

  89. JonJon says:

    thats just it davi..

those players are talented but they arent ready yet..

i say we just stop faffing around and buy the players we need…

although i think gibbs is ready for the LB role now..

  90. JonJon says:

i watched annan in ghanas first game and i thought he was the mutts nutts..

a tad on the itsy bitsy side but he was a feisty little sod..i wouldnt go into a 50-50 with him if i was driving a bus..

plays for copenhagen i think..wouldnt cost all that much..i got my eye on him the rest of the tourny..didnt do that bad yesterday either..

  91. Davi says:

JJ – I’d like to see us find the right balance.
The problem isnt that our squad lacks experienced players, its just that the experienced ones are always injured.
Utd seem able to give opportunities to their young players while continuing to win matches. The reason is that they might give one youngster a chance per match, where theyr surrounded by more experienced players, who can help them through and cover for little mistakes, but at arsenal it seems that often we have to play inexperienced kids all at the same time, and then rely heavily on just one or two experienced players to get us through. It’s not enough.

  92. rico says:

anyone just seen the i/v with fan that got into the england changing room… funny 😉

  93. JonJon says:

did anyone see kjaers pass yesterday..that boy can control a ball..

didnt think much to him defensively though..

  94. Davi says:

JJ – Unfortunately I think a few clubs will have their eyes on him as well now. We were after him before he moved to norway but didnt make a move, I think.

  95. JonJon says:

yeah rico hes chatting shit he wasnt looking for the toilet at all he ran in bollocked em and ran out.. 😉

    agree davi

clubs like manu bring in their kids one by one or two by two..

we throw all ours in the mix at the same time and you dont win things that way…

besides the majoirty of them wont make it anyway..

  96. K-TR7 says:

Song’s passing range was fantastic at times last night.bendtner played very well:a goal and an assist at his first worldcup…it seems rico has alot of visitors…i wouldn’t put it past you that when your friend spotted clichy he was coming to pick you up as the cherry on the cake…

  97. Erick says:

Jj I will get back to you on the ACON let me ask. Davi spot on with playing all the kids at ago. Rico apparently Prince Harry left the door open for the intruder am thinking its Wath don’t let Agag know that 😉

  98. rico says:

Made me smile jj, but why he had a go at beckham i never know, he should have found a few of the others and laid into them 😉

Hi ktr7, i thought Songs passing was top notch too, he looked a lot fitter and slimmer as well, we could very well see a fit, faster, stronger player in Song next season..

  99. Erick says:

K-tr7 at some point I thought Song was Cesc 🙂 Song will be a great player

  100. rico says:

Erick, i’ll let you know if WATH confesses 🙂 It would be great if it was him, maybe he’d do a post for us about it 😉

I like Prince Harry, full of mischief 🙂

  101. rico says:

Erick, bet Cameroon wished they played him in the first game, he was an inspiration out there last night…

  102. agirlagunner says:

Song was also sporting a new hairdo, was clean-shaven and even attempted a shot or two, all the while mindful of his defensive duties. He was fantastic. 🙂

  103. rico says:

Popping off for an hour, back shortly…

  104. Erick says:

Jj Kjaer playing along side TV would be great to see

  105. K-TR7 says:

Erick kjaer going forward reminded me of marquez vs france.i think defensively he and agger were abit easily torn apart but he will improve with experience…the dutch have had a slow start to the tournament but maybe they will save the best for last.one of the reasons though they struggled is the same problem we have;they just passed the ball around without penetration.vdv and sneijder are the same in terms of playmaking.they missed a dribbler,robben/ejlia/affellay,who would make things happen.thats why messi/robben/cr9 are very important to their teams especially against teams that park the bus.nasri was hoped to do it for us but he is inconsistent.rosicky can do it but he needs to sort out his final ball and thats why we are after joe cole.

  106. Erick says:

Agag Song would never shave he had some plaiting on his dreads now your in the midfield Agag 🙂

  107. Erick says:

K-tr7 i didn’t like the dutch games so far boring is an understatement they need to improve not the dutch only but all the big teams

  108. Erick says:

Anelka reportedly retired from the france international duty after being sent home after swearing at Domenech funnily Zizou did the head butt and retired any links

  109. K-TR7 says:

Erick if song had a mean shot on him he’d be our essien!annan of ghana is the african flamster…

  110. agirlagunner says:

Hola, KT. Kjaer’s defensive nous leaves much to be desired, but he sure can pick out a pass. Agger was only average. The Dutch look decidedly more dangerous when Elija and Affelay are on. They’re thrilling to watch. We’ll get Rosicky back, I am sure.

And Erick, I have all positions covered! My favorites are YKW, Clichy, Robin, and Rambo.

  111. Erick says:

Ha ha ha Agag am sure even the bench is covered lol K-tr7 Song said it himself he will be adding goals next season be ready. Rico just saw the i/v of the tresspasser funny is an understatement

  112. K-TR7 says:

Agag how i miss rosicky dribbling past players to setup a goal.he has the ability no doubt.he only needs to sort his final ball.he has a good eye for goal and also for the ladies of course…

  113. JonJon says:

    songs a top player..

he was talented before he broke into the first team but he was one of those players who struggled to handle the pressure of playing for a club like arsenal.. he was choking and the fans were on his back but credit to him hes come through it and hes showing everyone what hes about..

and hes only 22..he’ll get better..

  114. agirlagunner says:

I suspect, KT that TR-7 is struggling with a mental block more than anything else. In a team where technique is as much an expectation as an imperative, he stands out. He will do us proud again. It could not have been an easy to be two years out. And his was a strange injury, to be sure.

Off to catch the game! Be back in a couple hours.

  115. Red Arse says:

    Hi Chaps/chapesses

I met Gibbs in Spain a couple of years ago, where we stayed in the same hotel. They must have heard I was staying there because the CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Kiev teams also turned up at the same time, and I got the chance to chat to Lushny (ex-Gunners back). He was surprisingly shy but delighted I remembered him from his Arsenal days.

Gibbs was a really nice, down to earth guy but you might be surprised to know Agag that he is very slight and of medium height, (but with nice sighs) Rico.

Earlier posts referred to Vertonghen the Ajax player. I saw a couple of Ajax matches he played in and I’m sure he played at left back and, again, was not very tall. Well that qualifies him for Wenger’s Centre Back I suppose.

  116. Davi says:

Song went from nothing to imo the best DM in the league behind essien over a very short perio; and he can be even better than the chelsea player than him with experience imo.
But doesn’t his rise show that you can’t write these players off? Denilson is one who many have written off already, and I think he’s younger than song. I can understand the argument that he shouldnt be playing so much currently because he’s unreliable, but not to write him off entirely. I always have a go about theo getting so much match time, but Id never go so far as to say he’ll never be good enough. I just think we’re relying too much on a guy who has never played well for more than a run of 2 or 3 games.
Vela is the one that really aggravates me though. He has barely had a chance, and already shown in 1st team matches, be it mostly in the carling cup, that he can be highly effective at 1st team level, but because he hasnt performed quite so well this season (still not THAT badly actually), a lot of arsenal fans want to get rid of him. I even hear ppl taking the piss cos of how he hasnt set the world alight at the world cup! Its shocking how they can write him off already after one quiet season where he barely had any opportunities anyway. The thing is, its clear he has more technical ability than most players in our main squad, hes almost as quick as theo, he can make chances with his passes and crossing, and he can finish one-on-one – he has every quality you could possibly want in a forward/winger, but it rarely happens so instantly. He needs to make some improvements to his game, that’s clear, but give him a chance. Its not as though his presence in the squad has really hurt arsenal. He’s barely been on the pitch enough, yet fans want him out.

  117. JonJon says:

if whats is face is left footed and a midget then i dont want him…

big strong strpping lad with speed and a size 20 right boot who can compliment the vermster and likes to kick ppl up in the air..

  118. Red Arse says:

Rico, you are an enigma. popping out here and popping there.

I’m intrigued that you are still surprised that someone’s doorbell rings when you put your finger on it. Or do you just enjoy the exercise when you run away?

We used to call it “knock down ginger”. Don’t know why. 😉

  119. Davi says:

RA – Vertonghen is 189cm according to wiki. That’s tall enough isnt it?
Gibbs is pretty tall for a left back as well. He’s good in the air anyway. Definitely a bit “slight” though.
Its nice you were able to meet those two.

  120. Red Arse says:

Too true JJ. That’s why I am surprised by the rumours. But as I always say, I know sod all!

  121. JonJon says:

    davi

i dont think its a case of fans want vela out i think its more of a case that wenger doesnt rate him cos he never uses him..

i rate vela highly but he wont get a chance unless he moves clubs…his development is stagnent at arsenal

  122. Red Arse says:

Davi, 189cms is 6′ 2″ in old money. But you can write any old rubbish in Wikipedia, and I think his mum is trying to get him a transfer. 🙂

Seriously, I can only give you my impression and he looked very average height to me, and very left footed. Isn’t that where TV plays?

  123. JonJon says:

    red arse

you should have been on here a few months ago when ricos puppies kept escaping..she was always popping out.. 😉

    wath was in his element..

  124. agirlagunner says:

Bonsoir RA, ça va? That Gibbs looks big to me on TV can only mean our midfielders are positively midgets in the flesh. Haha.

How nice you were able to meet them. I saw Pat Rafter at an airport once, and he was all smiles and fresh-looking and just magnificent. 🙂

  125. Red Arse says:

    Again JJ you are right.

It really disappoints me the way Vela is treated. He has all the skills and athleticism we need but he needs more playing time to bed in.

He is not going to get it, is he?

  126. JonJon says:

    red

    ask rico..im always right.. 😉

and when im wrong, i could have been right, so im still right!!!

  127. Red Arse says:

Agag, bonjour ma cherie, je vais tres bien, merci, et tu?

Actually, they said I was very nice to have spoken to them, as I was watching the European cup final at the time. But that’s me … all heart.

I had to read your last sentence twice as I thought you were describing me, but it was some old tennis hack! 😉

  128. Davi says:

JJ – Im not sure to be honest. I think wenger does rate him, but for some reason he has to give all the chances to theo and vela can’t really get a look in.
I dont think the formation change has been kind to him either because he was looking more effective in the 4-4-2 system, but he needs game-time to learn.
Wenger definitely rated merida very highly but didn’t start to give him chances until it was too late really. If fran hadnt got that injury just after he scored his PL goal, he might have had a chance to cement a 1st team place, and then he might have stayed.

A good portion of arsenal fans are very much against carlos vela by the way. With some players, everything they do is seen in the most negative light possible, and unfortunately vela is one of those players to many people. I can’t understand it. It’s good to see that people here are on his side though. I think he’s an extremely talented young player who can be a world-beater in a couple of years if handled correctly.

  129. Red Arse says:

    JJ love your logic. 🙂

Perhaps we are piecing Rico’s story together.

She rings someone’s doorbell, shows them her puppies, and then does a runner to get back here so we are her alibi! Cracked it! 😉 😉

  130. Davi says:

RA – you are right of course, wiki isnt a great source. Well I have had a glowing reference on him from a few people. He apparently has a great shot and is very comfortable in DM. I don’t know how he and vermaelen could work together, unless vertonhen can play on the right (I wasnt impressed with TV left of centre) but my hope would be that we’d sign vertonghen mainly as a midfielder and backup to TV with another player coming in to be thomas’ main partner at the back.

  131. K-TR7 says:

I remember steve bruce saying vela could be as good as messi with the right conditioning.he needs a break from injuries though…watch out for hamsik and weiss in the slovakia match.

  132. Davi says:

wasnt impressed with TV *right* of centre

  133. JonJon says:

i think the majority of fans rate vela..

theres only a small handful that get on his back but generally speaking vela is well loved.

i think where the line is divided though is that fans know hes not getting a chance and it doesnt look like hes going to get one either..now weve signed chamkakak vela is even further down the pecking order..

i think its more of a case of whats the point of having a player like vela just playing 2 games a season when hes probably worth 5-7mil and we could sell him and strengthen other areas…

if we sell him with a percentage of next sale fee we could make a tidy sum there as well cos i have no doubts if vela went to a smaller club like fulham or something and got regular footy he would be banging the goals in..

hes not going to get a game for us so let the lad have a career and lets make some money off it..

  134. JonJon says:

    😆 😆 😆

  135. agirlagunner says:

RA, tout va très bien aussi.

Hahaha. You boys are hopeless. rico, won’t be too happy you let the cat (or puppies in this case) out of the bag.

  136. JonJon says:

i know thingy me jig and TV had an awesome partnership at ajax but i dont know if one played CB and one LB or both CB…

  137. Davi says:

JJ – It would be better to loan him out than simply sell him.
Imo he has as much talent as van persie, he just need experience to develop.

Really I think theo should be loaned out, and wenger should be taking a chance with vela, giving him opportunities on the left. I dont think chamakh effects carlos too much because I dont think he can be particularly effective as the main CF in a 4-3-3 anyway; the only position he realistically has a chance with is left wing – and hes the only left footed winger we have, so you’d think he’d have a chance…

  138. Erick says:

Howdy Mr. Cocktails 🙂 nice to see you meeting several of the lads . Davi re Denilson am sorry we won’t agree about him he is too Average and not a defensive midfielder Aw should play him is best position which is still a mystery

  139. Davi says:

In my experience it’s the minority who rate him, but that’s just from the internet.

  140. Davi says:

Erick – song looked even worse a few years ago. Im not saying denilson should be starting games for us now, Im just saying it is unwise to write these players off entirely.

  141. K-TR7 says:

Rico ‘puppy and cock’ business is really mysterious.no wonder the bandit and the weedlord are always on her case…paraguay one nil up…

  142. JonJon says:

je mapelle ‘arry, j’habit a angleterre, je suis un pomme de terre 😉

  143. agirlagunner says:

The Vela situation is a puzzler. he is certainly talented enough. One has to wonder what goes on behind closed doors. AW doesn’t seem particularly keen on him. His confidence must be shot, he has been largely invisible in the games he’ss played. To be fair, how can he be expected to turn in spectacular performances when he’s on for what… 10 minutes? So few players are capable of that.

RA, Pat Rafter was with his swimsuit model wife too!

  144. rico says:

JJ is always right 😉 😉

    Except when he’s wrong….

Afternoon All, you lot leave my puppies alone, thought i would have a break from them whilst WATH is away 😉 😉

  145. rico says:

what comes after the hello my name is ‘arry jj 😉 😉

  146. Erick says:

I never write any one off Davi but I will say it when they are not realy doing it whats your view on the Almunia and Flappy Davi. K-tr7 RA just solved the Rico mystery nice one RA

  147. JonJon says:

the problem with loaning players out all the time davi is that they become that used to playing regular that when they come back they want to play regular..

i wouldnt loan theo id just sell him cos he cant play football..

  148. agirlagunner says:

    🙂 JJ 🙂

  149. JonJon says:

    rico

i think i said something like i live in england and im a spud.. 😉

  150. JonJon says:

my french is a little hazy..

i learned from the school of delboy trotter so forgive me for any mistakes..

  151. Red Arse says:

JJ I am impressed with la plume de ma tante. Agag’s petits pois have also caught my l’oeil. 🙂

Agag, where did you get your “e grave” from? Je ne sais quoi, you are a marvel. 😉

Btw, my German is even worse!

  152. W.A.T.H says:

Allo you lot…. Greetings from Sunny Cape Town, ok well sunny Stellenbosch. Nope wasn’t me friday night in the dressing room i was in the bar by then lubricating my throat with a well se\deserved triple GG having had to endure 90 mins of utter shit.

Hope your all well and can’t beleive I’m away a few days and ur all tryng to hussle in and play with Rico’s puppies…!.

  153. K-TR7 says:

We have been linked with cagliari shot stopper marchetti the italian no.2.keep an eye on him in the next match…our fans chant eboue is better than kaka, well eboue tonight’s the night!

  154. JonJon says:

    guten morgen meine freuline.. 😉

    or something like that..

  155. rico says:

Hi WATH, trust you to appear when puppies are mentioned 😉

jj, my english is poor let alone my french 😉

  156. JonJon says:

    allo WATH..

have you bought a trumpet yet???

  157. K-TR7 says:

Wath howdy man!hope you are up for your assignment.hope to see some results tomorrow when xavi and barca lot play…

  158. JonJon says:

    lol rico
same here.im such a lazy writer..as long as it makes some sort of sense i roll with it..

  159. agirlagunner says:

Tu es si drôle, RA. Tu me fais rire. 🙂

    I MS Word-ed, btw.

  160. Red Arse says:

JJ, du bis ein kartoffle, nicht var? 🙂

(I think that refers to your pomme se terre).

Nice to hear from you Wath, we were trying to cheer Rico up as she and her puppies are missing you!

  161. rico says:

thats what makes me laugh on these blogs jj, some come on just to tell you about a spelling error or the word to should have two o’s – its a blog not a peice of writing for an exam 😉

  162. rico says:

    Ferm a la bushe 🙂

All correctly spelt i think you’ll find 🙂

  163. Red Arse says:

Rico, you leave my bush out of this. Naughty girl. 😉

  164. rico says:

anyone fancy ivory coast to beat the mighty brazil later 🙂

  165. rico says:

how did i know you would say that RA 🙂

  166. W.A.T.H says:

Am sure Rico’s puppies are doing fine RA 😉 K-T Xavi and co will look forward to their half time tea I had a word with the tea lady and it’s gonna be laced with a nice local extract or “bark” that has u on the loo for 48hrs within 20 mins…. also replaces the loo roll with sandpaper in their hotel rooms…! Hope thats ok with you. Step 2 into action next week.
JJ i bought a trumpet specially 4u mate it’s on it’s way, I got in covered in lycra 4 you…! bright pink..!

  167. Davi says:

Erick – sorry was just watching the korea piece on the bbc.

I think almunia is generally a decent keeper, but should really be backup at a top level club.
Fabianski is better than he showed this year. He doesnt seem to have developed since we signed him though. I think he should be loaned out for experience because he might turn into something.
Szczesny is the one Im waiting for though. Im sold on him to be honest. I think he has everything, including the mentality, to be a top keeper, and wouldnt be surprised if he took over next season.

  168. rico says:

Is it still freezing WATH, or have you moved on to warmer shores?

What games are you due to watch next? Not the England game on Wednesday I hope, for your sake 😦

  169. Davi says:

Btw, eboue IS better than kaka. That guy is overrated

  170. rico says:

Davi, my thought too re Chesney, I can see wenger throwing him in at the deep end but i think the lad will be totally unfazed by the ordeal. I don’t Mannone is that bad either, he stodd tall against Fulham and showed more balls than Al or Flapianksi…

  171. No Lies Mick says:

Give Nic a break, the lad has alot of time for Arsenal & has said many times he regrets his departure from Arsenal. He never celebrates a goal he scores against us, & I think has matured as he got older & in that maturing has ‘copped’ on as to who his friends & enemies are.

He was taken advantage of when he was younger, didn’t know how to handle himself. His ‘PR’ skills were zlich, which I think he has learnt from.
And the media were quick to pick up on his insecurities back then. My only regret in Anelka leaving was to of seem him team up with Henry. That would of been some paring to have.

Ever since he left Real Madrid, I would’ve been happy to see him back in a Arsenal Shirt at anytime.

  172. JonJon says:

    excellent wath lol

i will use it when im wearing my nikki b replica pink boots i got from soho..

  173. W.A.T.H says:

It’s pretty nice down here in CT Rico and no not going PE to watch that shit on wednesday. Back up to Jo’burg tuesday and it’s pretty cold up there but only once the sun gone down. Got tickets for a few games just not sure what ones I can actally be bothered to go to when the wine and the GG is so appealing 😉

  174. rico says:

Fabianski should go on loan, he’s young and needs to play week in week out to gain experience and confidence – he can’t just sit on the bench all season and then be expected to perform at the drop of a hat, then if he’s still shocking, offski…

  175. W.A.T.H says:

JJ the thought of u in pinks boots only and blowing a pink trumpet…. Hmmmmmmmm enuf said 🙂 I just know RA gonna mention you blowing a pink trumpet 🙂

  176. rico says:

I don’t blame you either, the squad are meant to be having a ‘free for all’ meeting later, could be interesting…

i still think Capello is after the L’pool job…

  177. agirlagunner says:

Hey, WATH! Been on your best behavior? Remember to do Xavi & co. some bodily harm for me!

  178. rico says:

agag, what do you make of cesc being upset at being on the spanish bench?? I laughed my socks off when i read it..

does WATH know what best behaviour means…. 😉

  179. Red Arse says:

No Wath, “pink” and “trumpet” should never go together unless accompanied by a mint green tutu. 😉

Rico, when we talk about goalies, we refer to Almunia, Flappy, and Manone, but our younger keepers seem to be mushrooming.

Scesny, Shea, Martinez, McDermot and so on. There aren’t enough teams for them all to play in. Is this Le Prof overcompensating, do you think?

  180. rico says:

Hi Mick, i think most of us feel sorry for nic, i don’t blame him for laying into domenech…

  181. W.A.T.H says:

AGAG………. Ur wish is my command…….. They will beg for mercy !!. Rico…. I have been very well behaved so far 😉 Still plenty time to change that though…………

  182. W.A.T.H says:

RA……….. Don’t go giving JJ ideas now….. Green tutu pink boots and blowing a big pink trumpet….! What ever next..?

  183. Red Arse says:

Rico, I think Mick is probably right too, although, at the time, I was seething with Anelka and his brother.

He was/is a brilliant player, but if he hadn’t left us Wenger probably would not have signed Thierry. Cause and effect … hard to predict.

  184. rico says:

RA, I would put Chesney before Mannone, the others are all still very young, maybe he just hopes one will be good enough one day – i’d rather he went and got an old great keeper…

  185. Red Arse says:

Wath, stop it, I am beginning to salivate! Well actually I am usually like that. 🙂

  186. agirlagunner says:

rico, YKW saying he was not angry over being left to gather splinters on the bench was such big attempt to sound mature and level-headed. Oh, if only he weren’t so transparently annoyed. But I am loving it.

  187. rico says:

RA, wenger said he wanted Nic and Henry to play in the same team… I too was seething with his brother for stirring up everything. nic has often said the worst thing he did was leaving us….

    You surprise me WATH 😉

  188. W.A.T.H says:

Right i’m off just thought I’d come say allo. Take care and chat soon the pub is calling and there is far to much GG that needs to be consumed so I am a man on a mission. Wath, I am keeping an eye on the footie while chatting here.

What is annoying is that the weather in SA’s mid-winter is lovely and sunny, while here in our summer it is grey and overcast. Bugger.

Thanks Wath …. Kissee, kissee! 😳

  194. W.A.T.H says:

RA it’s lovely throuhg the day but believe me its piss cold of a nighttime up in Jo’burg and pretoria. CT is fine though.. Ok am gone..!

  195. agirlagunner says:

I like what you’re saying WATH. I don’t care for the method— but you’ll make me happiest if in the process, you violate the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

    I would reeaaaally love that.

  196. W.A.T.H says:

AGAG………. They will understand the meaning of pain and degredation by the time I’m finished hope that makes you happy 🙂
Ok, I’m gone cheers all……! Gooners on tour….. The tour continues………………….

  197. Red Arse says:

    Got to get some nourishment.

    see you later, guys.

  198. rico says:

later RA, dont eat too much…. 😉

  199. oliver says:

morning fellas, morning ate agag….happy father’s day to all you dads out there. thanks for bringing my late-last-night-incoherent-alonso post over and thanks for the responses rico and jj. i see you believe the substance of the stories and i respect your opinions. for my part, i find it very difficult to believe that liverpool would be sell alonso to us. if we bid 30 million, perhaps they would have. but say their valuation is around the 18 mil i heard quoted – even if arsenal met that valuation, why would they sell to a top four rival? it has been widely reported that we anywhere between 10 and 12 mil and they rejected because the price is too low. but nobody has said (other than myles, who has a clear agenda) that liverpool rejected our bid(s) because of low valuation. i concede that we submitted at least one bid for alonso, and that it was almost certainly below their valuation, but i also think that liverpool would never have sold him to us unless we offered way more than anybody else. why? because there were plenty of other people interested in him and if they wanted to sell at that time, they could have probably received a better fee from Spain while not having him play against Liverpool twice a domestic season. mind you, i have no proof to support my theories, but i just cannot see Liverpool agreeing to strengthen a rival who, at that time, had a serious need in that position. Song has since proved he can handle the job, but when the Alonso talk was circulating, not everyone was sold on Song.

  200. rico says:

Hi oliver, i think Alonso really wanted to come to us, we should have gone for it, we wouldn’t have seen so much of Denilson then 😉 😉

I have to pop off and go hedge cutting 😦 😦

    Back in a while…

  201. oliver says:

hi rico…i think alonso probably would have liked to play alongside cesc as well….but i still do not think liverpool would ever have sold him to us. perhaps if we paid way over the odds they would have – but then some of our support may have grumbled about he we let ourselves get fleeced. i think we have more than enough instances where AW has been over-cautious in the market…i personally think he is allergic to transfer fees. at the same time, i just think this is one instance where he should not be pilloried, because i do not think liverpool would ever have sold Alonso to us. good luck with the shrubbery.

  202. agirlagunner says:

Magandang gabi, oliver. Am I really “Ate”? I should hope not. I’d feel so old.

Alonso would have been an excellent buy and he seemed open to the move. Our problem is that we wouldn’t cough up the cash.

Song has been a revelation. He’s our reward, I think. For every Denilson, Flappy, Theo, we get an honest-to-goodness world-class player.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads here! I hope you have a grand one!

  203. rico says:

Sadly oliver we will never know re Alonso 😦 I would have helped move to London though 😉

agag, old, your not old 😉 I am 😦

  204. rico says:

    agag, doesn’t that make it a ‘grand-fathers’ day 😳

  205. rico says:

NZL have taken the lead against Italy 🙂

  206. oliver says:

agag, perhaps i am just so young. or perhaps not. Look, there are flaws in my argument. At the heart of my argument, I can be charged with “mirror imaging” -in other words, “I cannot see Rafa selling Xabi to Arsenal because it makes no sense to Liverpool”, therefore, Rafa thinks the same way I do, therefore he will not sell. Assuming Rafa thinks like me is a rather bold assumption on my part! But even with that, I cannot find ANYTHING that suggests Liverpool were open to selling him to Arsenal. Nor can I see any benefit to Liverpool to sell him to us: strenghten a main competitor at a position in which they have a great need – why? Arsenal offer the most money – do any of us REALLY think we would offer more than Spanish/Italian clubs? Arsenal the only party intersted – I seem to remember that Real Madrid where interested in Xabi when he was still at Real Sociedad. I think Xabi to Arsenal would have made perfect sense from the Arsenal/Xabi/Cesc point of view. But it would have made ZERO sense from the Rafa/Liverpool point of view. And the latter is why I think there was never a realistic chance that we would have bought Xabi from Liverpool!

  207. agirlagunner says:

lol, rico. 🙂 Everyone’s in form today!

Are we really looking to buy Marchetti? That was an avoidable concession, I think. But I’m not complaining. 🙂

I hope Spain is upset too, the sooner YKW is separated from the stains, the sooner my sanity would be recovered.

  208. rico says:

Arsene Wenger’s radar as Arsenal search for a keeper

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Italy goalkeeper Federico Marchetti after failing to land Mark Schwarzer from Fulham.
The Gunners are also monitoring AZ Alkmaar’s Argentina international Sergio Romero and Arsene Wenger is checking out targets first hand at the World Cup in South Africa.
Arsenal failed in a £2million bid for Fulham veteran Schwarzer and reports in Italy say the Emirates Stadium boss could turn his attention to Cagliari keeper Marchetti.
Super stand-in: Marchetti saves after replacing Gig Buffon for Italy
The 27-year-old replaced injured Gianluigi Buffon between the sticks at half time during Italy’s 1-1 draw with Paraguay and will start against New Zealand on Sunday.
Juventus are also keen on Marchetti because of more deep-seated concerns with Buffon’s fitness but Cagliari have tried to put off all suitors by slapping a £12.5million price tag on his head.
Arsenal have also shown interest in Dynamo Kiev’s 35-year-old Ukraine goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyy, though he is not at the top of their short list.

  209. rico says:

just for you agag, the above from the daily mail…

  210. agirlagunner says:

oliver, you give Benitez too much credit. Rafa never made much sense (Truth Diatribe); was a bit of a loose cannon (again, Truth Diatribe); had a troubled relationship with Xabi; and was rather on friendly terms with AW. If the offer had been right, Xabi would now be playing for us.

AW’s offer was a token gesture for the benefit of supporters; and surely involved a paltry sum. Afterwards AW did say that if Xabi had been bought, Denilson’s career development would have been arrested blah blah blah. In the face of current facts, Denilson’s development has come to a standstill anyway, so it makes missing out on Xabi’s signature a thing that stings.

  211. agirlagunner says:

rico, you’re quick. 🙂 Avashnee and I have kept an eye out for Romero. Haha. You?

And I’m glad we did not waste £2 mil on Schwarzer.

  212. rico says:

rafa is dreadful when it comes to buying players, nearly as bad as wenger 😉

look at how much money he has spent on players he doesn’t even play – Babel is one who springs to mind, I hoped he would come to us as he is a talented player but rafa has all but destroyed him…

  213. rico says:

😉 agag, sorrensson would be a better buy i think…

  214. agirlagunner says:

rico, apart from Torres, rafa is particularly dreadful in the transfer market. 🙂 He is in part responsible for the Dippers lying waist-deep in doodoo.

Babel dived against us in the CL qfs. I can never forgive him for that.

AW is not THAT bad. 😉

  215. rico says:

Ah, but Babel had by then been to the Stevie Me Me me school of diving 😉

I am surprised rafa lasted as long as he has done…

  216. agirlagunner says:

Denmark keeper? Stoke? Bet you, Robin won’t like that! RvP seems to have had episodes with quite a number of players… Haha.

    LOL on Babel.

I love how the England NT are suffering. I’d have been cheering on one of them (your favorite), alas, he did not make the grade! Lennon/SWP who?

  217. rico says:

But he was good last night agag, kept them in the game…

I’m just glad he stayed home now, imagine the poor fragile lad amoungst all that’s going on out there 😉

  218. Red Arse says:

Hi me, I think I am talking to myself but I often do that. hello back me, yes I have noticed you doing that!

In case there is any passing trade out there, I read an interesting article in the Sunday times today.

Apparently the senior Arsenal scout has said they will not be buying anyone at the WC because it inflates prices and can lead to bad buys. Djemba, Djemba, Salif Diao, etc etc.

That coincides with Arsenal buying Chamahk, and possibly Koscielny, neither of them at the WC. So any thoughts of others at the WC joining us seem doomed. Damn and blast.

  219. Red Arse says:

Rico, you said he was good last night, something we would all like said, do you care to name names? 😉

  220. rico says:

RA, you are so cheeky, I love it – I was however, and sadly, referring only to the Danish Goal Keeper 😉

  221. rico says:

Oh, going on from your less cheeky comment RA, personally i would rather we dont get some over hyped, over paid glory player – the England team have proved that in the last week….

However, if David Villa decides to change his mind and wants to leave Barca, I would be more than happy to make an exception…. 😉

  222. Red Arse says:

Hi Rico, you are a wise, over hyped, over paid is not good. But this smacks of Arsene either only looking for Cham and Koc, or he is unable to buy others not at the WC or he would have done it by now.

    Not good. 😦

  223. Red Arse says:

Sorry Rico, the “a” in the sentence is superfluous and spoils the sense. 😦

I am getting good at these emoticons! 😉

  224. rico says:

RA, he’s looking at players not in the WC 😉 (aka toilet) look how many are out there??

some cry out about Theo and others not going to the WC when Heskey, an unfit King have gone, every country has a Theo, Bent or AN Other…

    We’ll get a couple more…

  225. agirlagunner says:

Good night, RA! Get a few drinks in, the cold in your part of the planet sounds dismal.

I was however, and sadly, referring only to the Danish Goal Keeper’—

Here’s a bottle of GG, rico! We shall be expecting a ‘happily’ tomorrow in reference to tonight. 🙂

  226. oliver says:

I think we will strengthen – not every one will be happy, but I think we will have at some new first-teamers and cover. Regarding rico/agag, re: Xabi, I am still not convinced Liverpool would seriously consider selling Xabi to us. What could Liverpool gain from selling him to Arsenal that they couldn’t gain from selling him to, say, Real or Atletico Madrid? At that moment in time, both clubs probably would have offered more, he would be back home, and Benitez would not have to worry about improving a domestic rival or facing Xabi twice a season. I just cannot see any way that selling Xabi to Arsenal would make good business sense for Liverpool? Note that the basis of my argument is from Liverpool’s interests, not Arsenals. Of course Arsenal would want Xabi, but again, I cannot see how selling Xabi to Arsenal would be more advantageous to Liverpool than selling him to a Madrid club….

  227. rico says:

Nighty night agag, 😆 re a happily tomorrow ….

RA is getting worse than WATH… 😉

  228. rico says:

but you are forgetting oliver, its rafa we are talking about, he’s silly in the transfer market – also, we cant lose sight that the dippers were and still are at a stage where they need to sell…

poss even more so now having paid rafa 6M for being useless

  229. oliver says:

Rafa may be silly buying, but I think he is pragmatic selling, Xabi’s potential transfer to Madrid being an example. Yes Liverpool are dire financial straits, but at the two points when Xabi-to-Arsenal speculation was at it’s highest, there was not such a hint. And even if they were in such dire straits, would it not serve their interests more to sell Xabi to a big spender? Someone they would expect to pay above the odds? I cannot see either of classing Arsenal in that group. I may be off-base here, but I just just think too many of us are seeing only part of the picture, not fully considering that selling Xabi to Arsenal did not make a lot of sense from Liverpool’s point of view. Who knows what really happened…

  230. rico says:

I thought Wenger said ‘we tried for him’ oliver

  231. oliver says:

I think he did….And I think I am not expressing my point that well here….I am not disputing that we submitted a bid, perhaps more than one…I am not disputing that Cesc said he would love Xabi to play in Arsenal’s midfield with him, or that Xabi was apparently interested in us…And I am not disputing that Rafa’s relations with Xabi broke down after the Barry think and Liverpool’s alleged willingness to listen to offers…What I am disputing is that negotiations broke down over a paltry amount such as a quarter-million quid…I think that if Liverpool were shopping Xabi (and I will concede they probably were), they were only going to sell under the right conditions. The basis for my argument is that it never made sense to sell Xabi to a title rival – making that team stronger and possibly your own expense. Arsenal certainly would not have paid what one of the Spanish teams would have offered. That is the point I am trying to make. I agree that Arsenal had a genuine interest in Xabi, I agree that at least one official bid was submitted to Liverpool. But I do not blame Arsene for not completing the transfer because I feel Liverpool would never have sold to us unless we paid way over the odds. And if we did that, some of us would be beating Arsene with the overspender stick. Arsene has made plenty of mistakes wrt squad depth and transfers (I am worried a mistake is unfolding as we speak), but I do not think it is fair to pitch in with Myles Palmer and hang the Xabi thing all on him. The way I see it, Liverpool had no valid reason to sell him to us.

  232. rico says:

They don’t need a reason oliver, just like we don’t need a reason to sell our captain, but if the player wants out and a club wants the player, you sell….

we didnt get alonso because we didn’t offer the right money sadly…

  233. oliver says:

sorry rico, but under that logic, gabriel heinze would now be wearing Liverpool red. I accept most of your premises, but there is no proof that the reason our Xabi bid was rejected was a minor difference in valuation. Again, if Liverpool were selling, why would selling him to Arsenal be better business than selling him to Real Madrid? It wouldn’t, therefore, no reason to seriously consider Arsenal. The player have interests, but so do the clubs – if Xabi wanted out, they could accomodate him by selling him to Real Madrid. Wouldn’t that make everyone happy? Especially as that is where Xabi ended up. One more thing I have not even mentioned is that Rafa never got a replacement for Xabi (I do not think for a minute that Robbie Keane was supposed to take Xabi’s place), so it would have been rather negligent to sell Xabi without cover. Remember that Xabi’s transfer to Madrid did not go through until Aquilani was lined up. If we went ahead and sold Cesc without lining up a replacement, I do not think any of us would be happy. Why should we expect Liverpool to act any different?

  234. oliver says:

rico, let us call this a stalemate. I do not think either of us will be convinced to modify our positions on the Xabi sale issue. Nevertheless, I appreciate the opportunity to offer an opinion contrary to popularly accepted believe and argue my point. As I always say, I can be completely wrong on this, but I am looking at this from Liverpool’s perspective and selling Xabi to Arsenal just makes no sense. Regardless, that has been something bugging me for a while, so I am glad of the opportunity to get it off my chest.

  235. rico says:

just about to say the same oliver, none of us know the truth….

could be worse, we could support the french national team, they have refused to train today over the anelka thing, some french staff have resigned, anelka has quit international footie… how sad is all of that

  236. oliver says:

sad but not unexpected. domenech was unfit for the job from day one, and many people new it. the 2006 fff side reached the world cup in spite of him – there were enough senior pro’s (zindane in particular) to carry that team. the euro 2008 shambles and struggle to qualify for this tournament should have seen to his dismissal. the fff head should resign over this as well – they had the power to change things, did nothing, and now their entire nation is humiliated! that said, i do not have much sympathy for the fff players anymore – i did, but refusing training, walking out, etc when you are representing your country is not on. i could also say what do you expect when you give someone like evra the armband?

  237. rico says:

have to say oliver, you are spot on, reap what you sow springs to mind…

i do feel for henry though, what a horrid way to end your international career…

  238. oliver says:

i will always have a soft spot for th14. he has been so peripheral to the squad, however, that perhaps his lack of participation hurts just as bad. i wish he did not handle that ball during the playoff second leg in st. denis, but he did and he has to live with it. he is flawed, but so are all the rest of us.

  239. rico says:

I’m done for the day guys and gals, need to get dinner etc – see you tomorrow

    stay safe – nighty night…

  240. rico says:

i bet he wishes he hadn’t too oliver… i’ll always love him though….

  241. rico says:

and to be fair, no-one gave a hoot about maradona’s handball against england……

    def off now

  242. rico says:

    Morning all, new one up
