I hope Diaby shines, his price will go up!!!

First off I’ll tell you what my thoughts are and I know you won’t agree…..

The player once dubbed ‘The New Vieira’ is nothing like the old Paddy we know, love and miss so desperately in the centre of our midfield. Diaby does bare some resemblance though, but in stature only. During a few of our games he has shone, during others he has been lost in my opinion. I don’t think he knows if he’s Arthur or Martha in the world of football.

Why oh why can’t Diaby get his brain and feet to work together in the same game. Why does he bomb forward like a headless chicken but not realise when danger looms, why can he not at that time play the pass just at the right time to prevent him losing the ball???? WHY?

It’s clear to see he has the ability and at 24 years old, should he not be playing so much better and more consistently than he does??

Right now I wouldn’t be sorry to see him leave but will this World Cup change my mind and maybe the minds of others?

Will the manager of France play Abou in the position he is best played in, in fact, will he play him much at all?

Is the way Diaby performs down to where he is being asked to play??

Who is he then? Why did our boss go and buy him??

Born in Aubervilliers, a little place near to the capital of France he started out playing for football for his home town’s side. He was soon snapped up by a local semi-professional side, Red Star Paris. All before he was thirteen years old. At the same age, he moved to his first ‘big club’, signing a youth contract with Paris St-Germain.

Whilst playing for the Paris based club, he got some extra tuition at the Clairefontaine Academy… Some may even say he should go back there 🙂

In 2002, things changed, he signed for Auxerre and helped win the under 16’s the national championship the same year – his then coach Christian Henna, described him as a “very good technician, elegant, quick”.

Diaby signed as a professional at Auxerre in the 2004/5 season and played in seven matches the following season and six in the first half of 2005–06. His first match for Auxerre’s first team came as a last-minute substitute against Rennes on 14 August 2004.

2004, Abou Diaby’s first ‘real’ game in the big mans world, he was just eighteen years old……

Two years later, Diaby now being twenty years old, Chelsea came a calling…. He said thanks, but no thanks, to the money bags football club in London. Instead, he signed for the red and white of Arsenal….

I should love him more than I do, just for that….:)

On 1 April 2006, Diaby came off the bench to score his first goal for us in the 5–0 thrashing of Aston Villa, after being set-up by fellow Arsenal newcomer Emmanuel Adebayor. The following month, Diaby suffered a broken leg and a dislocated ankle during the game at Sunderland..

January 2007, Diaby made his return. He was a late substitute in the 6-3 drubbing of the dippers in the League Cup… December 2007 he scored in the Champions League and again the following season in the same competition, again against the dippers. His first Premiership goal came during the following season against Aston Villa and to be fair, he’s often popped up with the odd goal or two….

Last season, Diaby started life on the bench but was soon asked by the boss to play on the left side of midfield in the new 4-3-3 formation but his natural position is as a box-to-box central midfielder, who is said to be ‘adept’ in both attack and defence.

‘Central midfielder’ – why is he played on the left?? Why did Arsene Wenger look at a central midfielder and then persist on playing him out wide???

Yes, he plays for France, if their manager was not Domenech I might think differently, but right now he seems to be on a one man crusade to destroy the French National Football team….

So, Is Abou Diaby good enough to be in our first team? Is he just a squad player? OR, is he best just sold and let another club worry about it??

  1. rico says:

    Morning all….

What a contrast yesterday, SA v Mexico was so good, France v Uruguay was so boring ….

  2. Deano says:

So you want him to be one of frances best performers, not so he can come back to us in good form, but to make money off of him! Then i bet you want us to spend it on some hyped up football manager type player like veloso!

  3. Dave says:

Diaby is a WICKED player! One day soon he is going to know it, and he’ll be nightmare to play against. Don’t slag him… SUPPORT HIM. Time to be an Arsenal supporter again, and not a critic. This world cup will be the trigger.

  4. brdgunner says:

I he might look like Pat but he plays Tiger Woods.
I think his best position is where Cesc plays. I don’t rate him defensively at all. I do believe if he played 15 games + consecutively he would start to show some signs of a useful CM. However, he can’t and thus we see the consistent DIaby.

  5. MattK says:

how Govou can start ahead of Gingac or Henry is beyond me

  6. K-TR7 says:

Rico guess who was france’s best player?…love him or hate him he will still be here next season so get over it.

  7. rico says:

Deano, yes to the first, no to the second bit!

brd, nor do i, for a big guy he doesn’t get stuck in much.. Maybe the injury’s he has sustained have effected his confidence.

  8. rico says:

kt7, i couldn’t watch the second half it was too boring for me – it wouldn’t be hard for a player to be ‘best player’ in that game surely.. I going to wait and see him for the rest of the tournament though if they play like last night, that won’t be long for France…

  9. rico says:

mattk, it was hard to see Henry on the bench, had he not moved to Bara and was playing more i bet he would have started…

  10. nigerian gunner says:

    first time here,nice post

but wenger can never allow diaby go now.fact

  11. K-TR7 says:

Rico i’m telling you diaby is going to be wicked if aw tunes him right.and saying that it was easy for him consider this;france had 10 players in the starting 11 who were in the quarters of the cl but he shone brightest…can’t you just support him?gourcuff was very poooor!funny story indeed he seems to choke on the big stages and im not judging him on yesterdays game…

  12. davi says:

I dont understand this post. Diaby played centre mid last season. Are you talking about the season before last where he played LM fairly often in a 4-4-2..
Anyway, he did well this season imo. He does get stuck in now, and has improved massively on the defensive side of his game as a result. A couple of times his attacking qualities were decisive as well at vital times.
He does lack consistency to a degree still, but he improved dramatically on that side as well this year.
Another point is that he was often playing Song’s position in front of the back 4 and initially he definitely struggled to cope with it, but he even improved in that role towards the very end of the season imo.
I think he will grow into a very important player for arsenal over the next few years because he has added a bit of defensive desire. He can be great in the box-to-box role and has shown potential in the anchor role. He could even play fabregas’ role if need be imo because I think he does his best attacking work when he has some freedom.
He has many qualities, but I do think that sunderland injury has stunted his development massively. It probably did effect his confidence and it definitely led to a lot of subsequent injuries over 2 or 3 years.

  13. rico says:

morning nigerian gunner, good to see you here, i’m not a big fan of diaby, not sure whether thats because he’s being asked to play out of position or whether he just isn’t right for us…

he is one of a few players who divide the fans..

  14. Mike E says:

song has a football brain – alas one or two of his fellow players don’t. including diaby and theo.

    shame.

  15. Walking Wounded says:

Diaby has to stay because he can change a match! Denilson should be replaced by a more dynamic and powerful player.

Gourcuff is an enigma, he is brilliant when he runs the midfield, but he just can’t seem to play for the team

  16. rico says:

ktr7 – when a player puts on the shirt of our club i support him, of course i do, i even want denilson to play well during the game..

i know you are a huge fan of Diaby, i am not sure though playing on the left is his strength. like someone said earlier, maybe he would be better played alongside Song?

Gourcuff…. if opinion was soley based on last night’s performance, i wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole… nor lloris!

  17. rico says:

    davi – from the post

‘Is the way Diaby performs down to where he is being asked to play??’

What I am saying is, does he play in the position that suits his game??

  18. nigerian gunner says:

thanks rico…there are so many things involved in transfers..do you think he is wanted by other clubs?i dont think so.also,he is very good technically.if he can be consisitent,he will be a class…people we dont need are almunia, silvestre, denilson…wev lost merida, senderos, gallas will go,sol will go…we shouldnt loose more than that in a summer..dont forget that fab staying is 50.50…so diaby is 100% staying

  19. rico says:

Mike – i defend Theo sometimes, but you are right, too much bombing along with the ball and forgetting to make to pass, then they lose it…

One of those two are 24, the other is 21…..

  20. rico says:

ng, i am sure he will stay, wenger likes him, but its interesting to read the view of others as i said earlier he is one of the players who the fans are divided over…

  21. rico says:

Hi Walking Wounded, welcome to Avenell Road – if i had to choose one out Denilson and Diaby to go, it would definately be Denilson…

  22. davi says:

rico – but diaby was playing the box-to-box role for the most part this year, usually on the right of a 3-man midfield, not on the left.. Am i missing something still?
When alongside cesc and song he looked very good for a time, but when those two got injured he was a little more erratic. I still don’t remember too many games this year where I thought he was poor h/e.
He never looked comfortable playing LM in the 4-4-2 system, but I think wenger often put him there when there weren’t any other options, and because he thought it would improve him to have some experience out wide.

  23. nigerian gunner says:

rico, pls why is your blog not on goonernews.com

    do you post everyday?.

how do i get to see your posts daily

i just came accross it on newsnow.thanks

  24. K-TR7 says:

Rico diaby doesn’t play on the left anymore.when he played between cesc and song he was brilliant.when song and cesc got injured he was asked to play dm role where he struggled.theo is less talented rico but you’re willing to give him a chance why not diaby who seems to have immense qualities to be a midfield powerhouse?…

  25. rico says:

davi, maybe i am missing something – i don’t recall seeing much box to box play – when he headed the og against the mancs 😉 😉

its funny though, i don’t recall many games where i have thought he was good…. 😦

do you go to the games davi, maybe there is something i miss whilst watching on television/pc?

  26. rico says:

ng, we try and post every day, it comes up on newsnow, but if you save the page in your fav’s you should find us easily… 🙂

  27. davi says:

    K-TR7 – spot on there.
I do think diaby was getting better at the DM role towards the end of the season. I’m optimistic he will be able to cover song better next season.
Often he and song formed a 2-man shield (rather than diaby playing ahead of song), which allowed fabregas more freedon to attack, and that seemed to work well.

  28. nigerian gunner says:

thanks rico,i will bookmark…but whats your view on denilson,if you feel this way about diaby?

  29. rico says:

Age reasons first ktr7, i just don’t see what others do…

it doesn’t however mean i am right, its just my personal view…

  30. rico says:

ng, denilson would have been gone a long time ago if it were down to me…

  31. davi says:

rico – the og was right at the start of the season.
There was a period when I guess he returned from an injury and was playing with song and cesc where he was just fantastic.
Towards the end of the season he was doing a good job as well, but people still thought he was poor. I just dont understand it. When he defends well, playing a defensive position, people criticise him for not doing enough going forward. I just dont understand it.
It may sound naive or arrogant for me to say this, but I dont think people look at diaby objectively anymore. I guess that because he’s struggled for form in the past, people wont accept him until he starts to play brilliantly in every game (like song does – and even then partway through this season he hadn’t won Everyone over)

  32. Red Arse says:

Hi Rico, good to see you defend your corner. 🙂

I agree Diablo divides opinion, but so do most players, except the most gifted; Messi, Ronalso etc.

I get frustrated with his inconsistency, but have never doubted his awesome physique and talent. He was superb last night!

Sagna was also back to his best, whereas Ribery and Gourcoff were total rubbish.

  33. Walking Wounded says:

Diaby has to know what his role should be in the Arsenal side. He needs to run himself into the ground every game.

He has the talent and the class, but he needs to know that he has to come off of the pitch absolutely knackered, every game. He has to support defence and attack at all times, he is the sort of player who should not be resting.

With Cesc being more Attack focussed and Song being defence focussed, Diaby has to be both. Ramsay does it well.

  34. FlipFlop says:

Diaby is affliced by the same thing i thought was going to kill Song. Namely, playing in slow motion. When Song started getting more games for us he seem like he was playing under water …. his movement was slow and ambling, there was no dynamicism to his game. The improvement came in Song when he upped the tempo and workrate. I remember reading an interview with song and what he said in it seemed like a light had been turned on in his head and he began to understand his position and job in the team. While still improvements to be made song has really upped his game – took him a season and a half but he copped on. Hes taken responsibility for his game and made himself a prescence.

It seems like Diaby has been knocked back due to his injury but there are signs there that hes finally getting it into his skull what he needs to be doing on the pitch. If he can take note of Songs attitude and up his game he can be a player for us. Diaby seems to switch on when there are opposition players arond him and he attempts to weave his way through them – what he needs to do is use that injection of pace and power when he has the time to power forward then lay off the ball or blast in a shot – no good goin it when 3 players are around you and you lose the ball.

  35. K-TR7 says:

Have you seen the stains daily xxx view?they are saying we are making no sense at all.forgive me but when did we ever tell them xxx was for sale?what happened to them respecting our decision?and whats this bull about you know who expressing his desire to leave without any actual quotes?its good to see they are desperate and we are staying firm…anyone see we made an enquiry for jagielka in the daily mail?…

  36. Schtian says:

“… play on the left side of midfield in the new 4-3-3 formation … – why is he played on the left?? Why did Arsene Wenger look at a central midfielder and then persist on playing him out wide???”

I must say you show your incompetence in these comments. On the left of midfield in 4-3-3 is not out wide. It is on the left of the three central midfielders. The wide positions is being held of the players up-front. Cesc has often played on the right of midfield – but not out wide…

    Learn your tactics!

  37. rico says:

davi, maybe you are right, i just don’t work myself up when he is on the pitch, i’m just waiting for his next gaff, usually it comes….

Perhaps that’s it, he blows hot and cold so often i am now fed up with him and can’t see any positive. i know he will not leave as wenger rates him so i will have plenty of time to ‘re-think’….

I am proud to say though, I have never been in the camp that knocked Song – he is and has always been one of my favs…. Song has made great progress, he is one of the first on my teamsheet…

  38. Red Arse says:

I think Walking Wounded is right.

My view is that Diablo seems to tire in the second half of games. More conditioning needed perhaps.

Don’t forget, Song has not always been a fans favourite. He was so poor 3 seasons ago he was farmed out to Charlton and on his return was sometimes booed for his occasional games, when others were injured. Now he is fantastic!

  39. rico says:

Morning RA – its a tough corner to defend this morning 😉

Where’s JJ and WATH when you nedd them 😉

  40. Alan says:

Totally agree with the blog, spot on in fact. Wenger should stop persisting with those who are not up to the standard required for Arsenal, Diaby is 24 now and Messi is 2 years younger, if your not good enough by the age of 21 your never going to be good enough.

  41. Red Arse says:

    Hi K-T

I first saw an article about Arsenal asking about Jagielka about 3weeks ago.

Moyes told us to take a hike, as I recall. More recycled rubbish I bet.

  42. rico says:

RA, This sounds pompass, but i sure don’t mean it to… I always thought Song had something. He oozed confidence even when things weren’t going his way, he just kept his head down and worked hard.

  43. Red Arse says:

Rico that is not pompous at all. I agree.

He put his head down, worked hard and now see the results.

I hope Diablo can do the same. Denilson? Forget it!

  44. davi says:

rico – you never thought song was poor?
I never really knocked him because he wasn’t costing the side anything, because he was barely playing. But until he went to charlton it was hard to see what was good about him at all.
The only 1st team player I really dont like is theo, and increasingly denilson, because they haven’t played well enough consistently but they keep getting in the side and it holds us back.
Diaby on the other hand contributed a great deal last season imo. But we can’t all agree. Its like RA said, very few players won’t divide opinion to some degree. I just hope diaby’s consistency improves so there will be very little doubt about his worth 🙂

  45. rico says:

Morning to those just joined, sorry for the delay…

  46. K-TR7 says:

Spot on davi.no matter what diaby does fans still criticize him.there is a reason mourinho was desperate to get him and those wishing that he goes;you’ll never appreciate the true value of something until its gone.rico you have seen how eddy is struggling but diaby went through the same injury.him playing right now is testament to his mental strength and sheer ability to come back.aw values his ability so do i.

  47. rico says:

davi, yes i thought he had poor games, he did have many a poor game, but i didn’t jump on the ‘sell him’ bandwagon, thats what i’m trying to say – there was just something about him….

i am with you on that davi, i want you to be able to come back here and ask me if i’ve changed my view on diaby and i then say ‘YES’ and have to eat humble pie 😉 😉

  48. Bezzer52 says:

I think diaby like Walcott and bendtner will come good for arsenal. There’s always supporters slaging of young players at arsenal. Those people that are questioning these players need to think back further than the last few games of the season because there have been a number of injurys diaby has had to get over and the same for Walcott. And as for bendtner he’s still only 22 I think! I still beleve these players a destined for great things just like song has manger to show all his critics wrong!!!!!!

  49. rico says:

Bendtner Be52, don’t get me started on him 😉

  50. Gooner1971 says:

I think you would probably have said the same thing about Alex Song a couple of seasons back.

I say give him another season. Wenger must clearly see something in him and whatever people may say about Wenger and bemoan him, I still reckon he knows!

  51. rico says:

    ktr7, ok, i get your drift 😉 😉

  52. rico says:

    G1971, Actually, no i didn’t, something i am proud about to….

  53. Red Arse says:

Rico, I would be happy with RVP and Chamahk up front.

Diablo, Song, Cesc and A.N. Other in our midfield.

For A. N.Other choose from Rosicky, Arshavin, etc. (NOT Denilson or Theo).

All we need is Le Prof to sort out the Defense by adding to TV, Clichy, Sagna!

Come on Arsene, push the boat out.

  54. Alan says:

I’m with you again Rico on Barndoor Bendtner !!

  55. Gooner1971 says:

Actually I take that back about Wenger knowing.

Bendtner really us shocking and should be sold to a non league side.

He has the first touch of a rapist and can’t finish.

Dreadful. Why Wenger persists with this lad is totally beyond me! At least Theo has pace, although no end product, Bendtner has nothing.

  56. Red Arse says:

    Sot on Gooner1971.

  57. rico says:

    RA, I wouldn’t 😉 😉

  58. Red Arse says:

Sorry, that should read “spot on Gooner1971”

  59. Alan says:

RVP & Chamakh up front, wilshere, nasri,Fab Arshavin & Walcott.

Keep Vermaelen and Gibbs and ditch the rest. We have won nothing since Gallas arrived and Sagna and Glichy have no end product, not a decent cross between them.

    Joe Hart for me ?

  60. Red Arse says:

Rico you little minx. 🙂 🙂

Which bit don’t you agree with, apart from Diablo and your man Theo?

Oh I think I’ve answered my own question. Damn! 🙂

  61. K-TR7 says:

Sagna actually put in a couple of good crosses yesterday.

  62. Stroller says:

What sort of twisted logic is this ? Build him up just to sell him ? Diaby has shown plenty of ability in Arsenal’s colours, but not consistently enough. If the side can establish the right balance and formation, avoiding the disruption of so many injuries, then he could yet be pivotal. Right now it seems to be the fashion to write off many of our players rather than build on the positives.

  63. Adam says:

I don’t understand where this anti Diaby stuff comes from, he’s a good player. 2 seasons ago he was poor with flashes of brilliance. last season he got a lot better and had some games where he really shone, his decision making was better, released the ball faster, didn’t try to run past 3 players and lose it to the fourth (at least not every single time he got the ball like he used to).

He may not have been great all the time but the guy is improving every year. Just because he’s not the finished article yet is no reason to discard him. In the next few years he will become a great player.

Now if you said get rid of Denilson, who hasn’t improved since we bought him, that would be different.

  64. Gooner4Life10 says:

Diaby was better than Gourcuff last night. He was my man if the match. Gourcuff looked crap losing the ball everytime, couldn’t pass or even shoot.

  65. Red Arse says:

Alan, sort of see what you mean, but there’s no room for Song and/or Diablo in there, and they are all diddymen. 🙂

  66. Walking Wounded says:

Define “First touch of a rapist”?

If you had said “First touch of Stephen Hawking” I would know what point you are trying to make.

Bendtner is a quality third or fourth choice striker, and in three or four years time he could be immense.

How good was Didier Drogba at the equivalent age. about 1 goal in 5 games in lower league French side.

By 25 years old he was scoring every other game for Marseille.

He definitely has potential and should be supporterd for the important goals he will and has scored

  67. rico says:

You and me against the world Alan 🙂

    RA 😉

    Shwarzer

    Sagna Cahill/?? TV Clichy

    Big Lump Cesc Song

    VDV (DB role)

    Chamakkkkkka RVP

  68. Red Arse says:

Stroller, most of the blogs here this morning are backing/supporting Diaby.

  69. rico says:

WW, i think 1971 was kidding us re his second comment 😉

  70. Alan says:

We need real competition for places, we only have a first 11 ?

  71. Danish Gooner says:

Song,Diaby and Denilson are not worth it especially Denilson is pure rubbish.

  72. rico says:

Stroller, we have several players who divide the fans, Diaby is one of them, its all about opinion and as RA says, most have been positive towards the player…

  73. Red Arse says:

Rico, that’s a definite maybe, but out go Arshavin, Nasri, Walcot, Wilshire, etc …. or are they bench warmers?

  74. Mark says:

    YOU FOOL.

Diaby was one of the successes last year.

Denilson on the other hand has gone backwards.

Gourcruff and Lloris are rubbish. Grass is always greener. And I am not surprised Nasri is pissed that he cannot get in ahead of rubbish like Goucruff.

  75. rico says:

Mark, try and keep insults to yourself please….

  76. Alan says:

With you Danish Gooner, jury still out on Song maybe as sweeper ?

  77. davi says:

I dont like this tendency for people to be wanting fairly average english players. Why on earth would anyone think cahill or jagielka would be an improvement on gallas? I know he’s made a few mistakes and we need more height in defence, but a partnership of cahill and vermaelen sounds awful to me. Yeh, we’d win more headers, but that’s about it. Jagielka isn’t even tall, and is often beaten by more skillful players.
I’d be happier for us to sign that lorient defender. At least hes an unknown, and we have a good record with our unknown signings recently.

  78. Red Arse says:

Mark we are ALL fans here discussing our different opinions, but we all want Arsenal to rule the world.

No need for capital shouting. 😦

  79. davi says:

Wilshere should be in the 1st team squad next season. He’s good enough now I think.
Theo should go on loan to bolton instead.

  80. davi says:

Song was one of the best players on the pitch in every game he played this year… How can the jury still be out?

  81. Alan says:

Song does have a habit of getting caught in possession too often for my liking ? like Diaby.

  82. rico says:

Wilshire needs to be more involved, start home games against the lower sides (no disrespect meant)

Theo, impact sub until he proves his worth, AA cheeses me off, talented gifted but sulky and plays when it suits him…

Nasri blows hot and cold too…

We threw away our season when the chips were down, we need players that when the chips are down raise their own game…

  83. Red Arse says:

Rico, apart from Cesc and RVP, practically every other player has question marks over them by some fans.

All are loved by some, all are doubted by others.

That is what makes football and these blogs so fascinating. Passion, ecstasy, despair they are all there. It’s called life!

  84. rico says:

Alan, Song and others are guilty of the same, we need to get back to the short sharp passing, move the ball around quicker and shoot when the goal is in sight…

  85. JonJon says:

    diabys shit

  86. rico says:

RA, comment of the day so far, that is just why we all blog, and no need to insult along the way either, peoples own opinions are just that… 🙂

  87. K-TR7 says:

Davi spot on.jagielka and cahill are average defenders.love or hate gallas he is one of the best in his position…

  88. rico says:

    davi, good comment

  89. rico says:

    Morning JJ 🙂

  90. Red Arse says:

Succinct and to the point, JJ. 🙂

    Don’t agree.

  91. rico says:

davi, gallas is a class defender, but he doesn’t want to stay…

I don’t care who we get as long as he’s great at what he does, Cahill has shone at Bolton…

  92. JonJon says:

    morning 😉

had a terrible week..then i was forced to watch france play and listen to those bloody ridiculous horns in the crowd

my ears and eyes were bleeding and then i read diaby getting praise

    for what??

france are shit..i wouldnt take any player from that team and that includes gourcuff..

if diaby is the best france have to offer they wont even qualify for the knock out stage.

  93. davi says:

Song gets caught in possession *occasionally*, but normally wins it back or at least stops the danger.
Diaby does have games where he lingers too long and doesnt always chase back as much as I’d like. That’s why the jury is still out on him, but song has proven himself. There is not a better DM in the PL than song except essien, who is always injured anyway.

rico – I know gallas doesnt want to stay, and I think we can do better because we DO need more height at the back. I just dont think cahill or jagielka would be the answer. I cant see a cahill-TV partnership working, and I think those two are often mentioned, purely because they are english. Maybe I need to see more of cahill, but my thoughts are that he’s good in the air, dangerous going forward and generally pretty good, but doesnt do it against the big sides. Basically we can do better imo.

  94. davi says:

JJ – France were awful to watch in the last world cup but still made the final. I think they’ll sneak through the group but theyr lacking the zidane player and their defence is probably a bit weaker in truth.

  95. rico says:

davi, i agree re Song, essien is the only one who comes close to him in my book…

the other thing with song, which many slate him for, if there is dange he isn’t afraid to make the ‘clumbsy tackle’ to stop it – i wish someone had done that to giggs in the fa cup!!

  96. JonJon says:

diaby just played how he does for arsenal

lots of twinkle toed fancy dan footwork but where was the end product??? where was the goals and the assists..

diabys only asset is his dribbling…but he does naff all with it..

beats 5 men, looks class, then passes it into the crowd or turns round and trys to beat the same 5 men gets tackled and looks shit

and dont even try ask him to defend…he doesnt know what that means..

    hes just a show pony..

  97. rico says:

jj, the sa v mexico game was much better….

i think france wont get through the group stage, not on last nights performance…

davi, only with the paw from the old boy of afc 🙂

  98. Walking Wounded says:

    Davi

    You’re comment earlier is mad.

Don’t sign Cahill or Jagielka (proven Premiership defenders)

Sign Koscielny (because he is unknown)

We need two defenders, so Koscielny and one of Cahill or Jagielka. I would prefer Cahill.

  99. rico says:

JJ, thats what i wanted to say, its just you put things so much better 🙂 🙂

  100. rico says:

Me too WW, out of the two, Cahill – its hard to shine at Bolton but he and Wilshere did…

  101. rico says:

I’m off to walk the woofa’s – back in an hour or so ..

  102. davi says:

JJ – diaby should have set up a chance for govou but anelka messed it up, and u cant blame him too much for “no end product” in this particular game. He didnt do much wrong, he very often took 2 or 3 Uruguayans out of the game, but unfortunately the side he was playing in was very flat and never took advantage.

WW – I was just saying I’d rather we went for an unknown player, as we have a good record with such signings, rather than one of two PL players (who aren’t PROVEN btw, at best cahill has had one good season now, even though I’ve seen him make mistakes..) just because theyr english. And why is that the choice (1 unknown, 1 PL player)? Why not two unknowns? Or one unknown or one player proven in germany or italy?

  103. Ole Gunner says:

Blindness is one thing. Wilful blindness is disgusting.

Here’s an accurate description of Diaby. Strong, fast, powerful, can pass, can head, can tackle, has stamina, and can finish sublimely with either foot.

How many players in world football can you say that about?

  104. K-TR7 says:

Morning jj.what more did diaby have to do last night?gourcuff was so poor that diaby had to play both as creator and water carrier.lloris is also a poor handler of crosses and aerial balls…

  105. JonJon says:

diaby played 40 games last season..

    scored 7 and created 5!!!!!

    in 40 games thats shit..

diaby can dribble up and down the pitch all day long and make the crowd go ooohhhh and aahhhhhh but the fact remains he cant defend and hes not a creative player..

    what is he??

just a selfish lazy show pony who doenst contribute enough to the team..

diaby is exactley whats wrong withe modern day arsenal..to much tippy tappy look at me look at me football with no end product and no workrate..

played the same for france last night.. lots of tippy tappy crappy but contributed nothing in trying to actually win a game of football..

every games just a training seshion to him..

  106. K-TR7 says:

    Ole gunner spot on!

  107. JonJon says:

    138 apps
    17 goals
    11 assists
    100,000,000,000 dribbles

    what does he actually contribute??

  108. davi says:

JJ – that isnt even that bad. He wasnt playing as a striker or even an attacking midfielder. In the league 29 games, 6 goals (at least 2 of which were very important ones) and 4 assists.
He was also in and out of the side and played a couple of different roles. Sometimes he had freedom to get forward, sometimes it appeared as though himself and song were shielding the defence together and sometimes he was actually playing Song’s defensive role.
He has a better record than theo over the last 40 games in terms of goals and assists, and theo plays the same position pretty much every time and IS expected to score and create goals. That was sometimes expected of abou, but more often this season his role was to provide stability to the midfield, making tackles and starting moves, which I think he did well!
Also, you can’t expect a CM to contribute massively in terms of goals and assists as well when theyr playing next to cesc. It just doesnt work like that. Id say his output is actually pretty impressive. Compare that to ballack who does the same job for chelsea – 44 matches and 5 goals.. And its well known he was a goalscoring midfielder but because he is now playing next to lampard, his role is different and he cant score so much.

  109. K-TR7 says:

JJ he is no am!he plays as a water carrier balancing offence and defence.scoring and creating goals is cesc’s and the forwards job not his.in fact he has done very well.in the europe carrick, ballack, alonso, schweinsteiger, motta…play the same role but guess what?diaby has done better in offence than all of them.heck he has stats berbatov would be proud of.

  110. JonJon says:

hes another accurate descripition of diaby..

no desire, no winning mentality,no creativity, no positional awareness, no workrate, cant defend, doesnt score, passes it to the other team, holds on to the ball too long, no brain

  111. JonJon says:

if hes not an attacking midfielder and hes not a defensive one then what is he??

  112. davi says:

I dont think anyone is saying diaby is perfect btw, but he clearly has all the talent in the world and last year was a massive improvement on recent seasons. He did show desire and a willingness to contribute defensively. In the past Id agree with you he seemed to treat each game like a training match where he was only concerned with impressing you with his skills, but now I think he’s turned a corner and is growing into a very good player.

  113. davi says:

JJ – like I said, he does the same role as ballack at chelsea. Why does it have to be broken into AM or DM for you? He does a bit of both, and the stats show that, at least from an attacking perspective.

  114. JonJon says:

    davi..

    theos shit as well..

  115. davi says:

I’ve got to leave now for a while. It was a fun discussion.

  116. davi says:

Alright, compare him to nasri, JJ

  117. davi says:

but mainly compare him to ballack please 🙂

  118. JonJon says:

he doesnt do either AM or DM..

hes not box to box either..

hes just a show pony who contributes very little in terms of winning a football match..

  119. JonJon says:

does anyone think those horns should be banned??

its like watching a game of football in a beehive..

  120. nigerian gunner says:

Nigeria to beat argetina…..anybody on that?

  121. arsenal norway says:

You guys need to leave Diaby alone, he is a great player. If you guys couldnt see that in many of our games last season, then you are fucking stupid! This man is going to be huge for us next season, so start supporting him before we lose him! Go support Chelsea, you act desperate for not winning anything! If you think spreading shit about every player you dont think is as good as lionel messi is going to get Arsenal more united and a winning team again, you are wrong! And that comes from a guy living in Norway!!, unbelieveable.

  122. JonJon says:

nigerian gunner i’ll take some of that my friend..

dont rate the argies..not with that idiot in charge anyway.

  123. JonJon says:

what a load of rubbish norway

  124. JonJon says:

if you think a player who doesnt give a shit when we play in a NLD gives a toss whether the team is united or not then your perception of all the bright and rosey things at the emirates is rather miguided..

    either that or your blind..

    diabys plays for diaby..

  125. Bahar says:

Diaby was the man of the match in last night’s World Cup game. This is the answer to your damning and cynical account of him.

  126. nigerian gunner says:

    jon jon
    you are the man

  127. JonJon says:

diaby was MOTM in a rubbish bore draw between two rubbish teams where there was no more than 3 shots on target all game and the only reason everyone stayed awake was because of the noise those stupid horns were making

Hellen Keller could have got MOTM in that game..

so that arguements a bit weak i reckon bahar

  128. avenell says:

If Diaby is so good, how come no other club ever wants to buy him???

    Morning all..

  129. JonJon says:

anyone we should look out for in the nigerian team???

whos the stand out player?? i’ll be routing for you guys anyway..

    hate the argies…

    come on you super eagles..

  130. JonJon says:

    avenell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    easy mate hows it going??

  131. JonJon says:

    cos hes shit 😉

  132. avenell says:

Yeah not bad JJ.. Not so busy next week. 🙂

    Hows tricks??

  133. avenell says:

And they can stick those horns where the sun don’t shine..

I haven’t seen a game yet and they piss me off it’s like watching a game in a traffic jam..

  134. nigerian gunner says:

    jon jon,
watch out for Haruna too,he is taking mikel’s role…thanks for your support

  135. avenell says:

Nigerian.. On the radio the other day, someone said that a quarter of all Africans are eligable to play for Nigeria.. Is that true?

  136. avenell says:

Not that someone said it on the radio.. 😉

  137. JonJon says:

  138. avenell says:

Change them to HTML format .. via photobucket..

  139. JonJon says:

i’ll keep an eye on haruna..cheers for the heads up..

  140. JonJon says:

    HTML? Photo bucket???

    speak english 😉

  141. avenell says:

Click on the tshirt in the widgets..

Photobucket changes the format from jpeg to HTML..

  142. JonJon says:

did anyone see ade barn door on Motd yest..

    piss funny..what a wally

  143. JonJon says:

    ahhhh..

    let me try.

  144. avenell says:

I had to turn over … no sub titles..

  145. JonJon says:

    found photobucket

how do i get my image on there and change it??

  146. avenell says:

You have to set up an account..

Import the picture in.. re size.. press a button and it gives a HTML number..

Copy and paste it into the widgets..

But if you shut the photo account down the picture goes..

  147. davi says:

How says nobody wanted to buy diaby?
    This argument has really descended.

  148. avenell says:

    Why???

All the best players get headhunted.

  149. avenell says:

    Not Theo though..

  150. avenell says:

Only by Penguin.. To see if he has a new fairy story in draft..

  151. JonJon says:

i wonder if denilson will get head hunted??

  152. avenell says:

    Only for his claws..

  153. JonJon says:

i wish they would have a claws in his contract..

  154. rico says:

  163. rico says:

Top bananna JJ, they are fab 🙂

  164. rico says:

i got a picture of him doing what he does best.. 😉

  167. Ole Gunner says:

    JonJon is deluded.

Like Myles Palmer still insisting Henry is really a winger and will never make it as a cntre forward for Arsenal….

You’re right JonJon. But only in your head.

  168. rico says:

Ha ha jj, they must be flexible 🙂

What about the knob jj?? is it worth that one going up too?

  169. JonJon says:

wath will be easy to spot..

he’ll be the one lobbing chairs at ashley cole 😉

  170. rico says:

Ole Gunner, come on, its an opinion…

  171. K-TR7 says:

In nigeria match watch out for palermo’s javier pastore if he plays most likely as a sub.korea one nil up.how have you been avenell?

  172. JonJon says:

    yeah the ‘knob’

    i like that one too..

i think ole qualifies this week.. 😉

  173. rico says:

  175. JonJon says:

  176. JonJon says:

    ive drawn holland..

everyone thought it was a fix cos ive been saying for weeks i want hooland to do it then i go pick em..

    the omens are good…

  177. avenell says:

Someone drew Spain for me.. when I asked if I could have a go so I could have Spain, they said I already had them.. 🙂

    Viva Espania.

  178. avenell says:

How much do you win JJ? Ours is a massive 100 quid..

  179. rico says:

Thats it JJ, Holland for me to, or one of the African country’s just for Erick 🙂

  180. JonJon says:

for the euros my bet was a spain win and villa top scorer double.. 😉

this year i got the dutch and robin

    40-1..

    come on robin.. 😉

  181. JonJon says:

at work its 80 squids and a trophy that looks like jules remee. we get our names scrolled into it too if we win 😉

  182. rico says:

Cant believe Edgar Davids is covering the WC on ITV and Lardy on BBC1…..

    What is going on….

  183. avenell says:

They both fit in to the “do you hate Arsenal?” “yes”..
    You get the job tag..

  184. K-TR7 says:

JS Park has added a second for korea…

  185. rico says:

    its a joke ave….

  186. rico says:

KTR7, they are doing well, what a fab save by the SK Keeper just now…

  187. rico says:

Great result for SK, well done them…..

  188. rico says:

Wonder where Inamoto is these days….

  189. K-TR7 says:

Stains are now saying they will get you know who at the world cup.they had said they would get him before…it seems the big NO wasn’t enough.wath has an imminent assignment in SA…

  190. Brian says:

Diaby is our best improved player alongside song! His performances of late have been first class. I’ll admit, the season before last I felt exactly the same but he has turned it around. So although I want to see him shine in the world cup I also want to se him shine at arsenal for many years to come!

  191. avenell says:

    Hi Brian..

I cannot agree mate.. he has improved but he is another of Arsene’s passengers.

  192. rico says:

ktr7, spooky, was just reading that…

what i don’t get is, having kind of read a few comments around the blogs, people are defending you know who…

Why i ask myself, had he not wanted to go he could have told wenger that and he could have told the stains, ‘the boy dont want to join you, give up’ –

something smacks of a transfer request but not revealed in case he stays….

  193. JonJon says:

take a look at your ‘knob’ rico 😉 ^^^^^^^^^

are you happy with it.. 😳

  194. rico says:

Ha ha jj, its fab 🙂

  195. rico says:

but is it a knob or a handle 😉 😉

  196. rico says:

that argie goal should have not been allowed, another nigerian played was being tugged all over the place…

  197. rico says:

Looks like everyone has gone for the day, so i’m going to follow suit, be good and stay safe ….

  198. Mac says:

Anyone who has at least a reasonable appreciation for talent will know that Diaby deserves to wear the Arsenal shirt and should be given the time to add consistency to his game. I think in the last season he showed enought to convince the doubters of his ability and in yesterdays game as well. But for some reason there are still a bunch of K***heads among so-called Arsenal supporters who just don’t have a clue. It’s just buy that player, sell that player, buy that player, sell that player. I have complete faith in Wenger, as he’s proved time and again that he has an eye for talent, and it’s about time some of you started realising this instead of giving your own opinions about certain players because it’s plain as day that you know f***all about ability and what makes a good-great player as you’ve probably never kicked a ball in your life. Moving on, I hope Eduardo rediscovers his form as I would’n’t like to see him leave. I think he deserves another season to prove his worth instead of a few extra quid in the Arsenal bank account. Bendtner is another enigma. Technically, he lacks a lot and I can understand fans frustrations but I wouldn’t like to see him go as I think he’s a good squad player and he’ll always do his bit with the odd goal when we’ve run out of options. He has that knack which can’t be taught and hopefully he’ll improve his technical side of the game. Walcott the same, a few extra years and hopefully he’ll fulfill some of his potential. Give these players a chance people, please..

  199. Suhail.TV says:

no.. Rico, is that Gourcuff wenger felt as a replacement for cesc.HE played like old AC milan gourcuff yesterday..

  200. avenell says:

Hi Mac good comment.. but kick out the insults.

If everyone was as good as you rose tinters reckon we would have won the League.

    but we didn’t.

  201. Suhail.TV says:

    hello avenell…

  202. Mac says:

Sorry. Just needed to say my bit. Will do

  203. avenell says:

    Hi Suhall TV.. how’s tricks??

Mac, no problem.. I’m a bit of a fence sitter, not too radical, but I can see some faults in the players.
We try to chat and discuss as if we were on the terraces not everyone agrees but you can make your point.

What do you think of the Theo?

  204. avenell says:

Anyone going to cheer on the adulterer (son of a drug dealer) the granny shagger and greedy Cashly tonight?

  205. JonJon says:

when was the last time wenger developed a top talent..i can name more players that have regressed at arsenal in the last few years than have developed into stars..

and how many more chances do people want to give these average passengers in the arsenal team?? i think 5 years is enough chances..

if people cant work out whether a players good enough or not at 24 years old after 5 years of watching him develop (or not) then i reckon its them that dont know naff all about football..

  206. JonJon says:

    ive become patriotic today ave..

supporting england has becoming a bit immoral for me over the years but the three lions is the three lions and everywhere i walk theres england flags..

my pal has the loves got the world in motion song on his phone and i was listening to winston churchill earlier 😉

    im up for this now

  207. Suhail.TV says:

JJ you’re right, Diaby was not phenomenal last night..he never was.. how he getting so many opportunities..whether at Arsenel or at France??

  208. avenell says:

The English goverment stole 6k off me so f**k England.

  209. Mac says:

I don’t understand this constant criticism of Wenger and some of his players. Wenger’s been producing and selling talent since day one. He’s put arsenal on the european map and developed unknown players into household names. Apart from one or two who haven’t come through (mainly cente backs for some reason!) he has been the best manager in european/world football in that department. Name me one manager who has made more of a financial contribution to his club in transfer dealings than Wenger.. that alone proves the the point. One of the last top talents was Henry I think… check the before and after stats of his career. Nuff said

  210. JonJon says:

diaby was just diaby last night..

    not really use nor ornament..

gets the ball, does a few tricks, everyone goes ooohhh and ahhhh, no end product.. negative possesion..no point beating 5 players if you cant find the final pass..score finishes 0-0..

in a one off game it makes him look a top talent but after years off watching the same thing week in week out you start to catch on that its pretty much all he does and hes not really that good..

  211. avenell says:

    I nearly totally agree Mac..

But if we don’t win a few trophies, the fans will drop away and we won’t be in such a strong financial position.

You won’t increase the fanbase by coming 3rd, no open bus ride for making a profit.

  212. JonJon says:

where did all that come from??

nobody ever said wenger was shit..wouldt disagree with any of that but all id add is that you have to find a balance between the finances and trophies..theres no prizes for making huge profit that you dont spend every season..i dont find that a huge achievement..nor do i find finishing 3rd a ‘trophy’

as for henry he was past it when we sold him so his after stats are going to look not the best but the fact still remains he won the CL AFTER he left us which i think is the only stat he cares about..

    nuff said

lol ave..how did i know that what coming..

  213. Marko says:

I like Diaby. Sure he’s not the most consistent but last season was basically his first season where he played most the season and he looked good. Hopfully next season he can kick on and get better.

  214. JonJon says:

the only critisms i have of wenger is that his lies have become unbearable and hes a poor team manager..

fantastic coach, marvelous inovater, amazing accountant,

but as far as management goes hes not got a clue

  215. rico says:

    crap man manager though jj……

  216. rico says:

sorry, i was just booking off my pc and saw the stuff re wenger, couldn’t agree more jj, he has it all nearly, but when it comes to managing the players he fails imho….

anyway, i’m off to watch the chavs, scum, oap’s, dippers and all the other shite that make up England, St Georges flag fly’s high for my country, but not for the shites that represent it….

    night night… again 😉

  217. avenell says:

Wenger could be a fantastic man manager.. and the players are worse than we thought.. 😉

    nite the rico..

  218. JonJon says:

i think hes a good man manager cos a lot of the players see him as a father figure but i think the problem is he pampers them too much and they take advantage of that…

they know they can play as badly as they want and not win a trophy and still get a pay rise and a 5 year extension..

some of the players have life easy..and they know it..

  219. avenell says:

Nite club brawler 1 USA 0

  220. JonJon says:

serial GBHer has made us proud..

    what a captain. 😉

  221. Mac says:

Point taken. I agree as well, there has to be a balance between developing talent and bringing in talent to take you that next step further and hopefully Wenger will do that for next season. Once he gets that right then we should be looking forward to some success both at home and in europe. Like every arsenal fan I’d love to see that success but not the Chelsea/Man City way. Let’s keep developing that talent, creating that stable financial base, start bringing in the right players, continue playing the arsenal/Brady way(Just to show my roots!) and then getting to the level of success that has made Barca, Milan, Madrid etc, who they are today.

I hope Blatters financial rule cocks the sugar daddies up and Wenger will rule supreme.

  223. JonJon says:

    totally agree mac

i would take no pleasure in winning things the chelsea way..

its cheating..it takes all the fun and sport out of football and the last time i checked football was a sport..

we are doing things the right way but i see us being 3-4 players away from silverware and i’d rather get those players now with all these profits we are so proud of..

im sick of seeing average players play for this club and then being told we made 30-40mil profit this season..

i wanna see that profit go back into the team..

  224. avenell says:

England should have had three booked by now..

  225. JonJon says:

    those horns need red carding..

    they do my head in

  226. JonJon says:

we know the financial rules wont change a thing..

they’ll put them in place to make it look like they give a shit but the daddies will find a way round it..

instead of writing blank cheques they’ll just buy 10mil shirts

  227. avenell says:

That is being looked into.. it might just work..

  228. JonJon says:

they’ll have to make it a gate reciepts to wages ratio..or something along those lines..put a salary cap in place..

unless abrabavich pays £250mil for his season ticket theres pretty much no why out of that one.. 😉

chelsea dont even own that shit hole so thats them fucked straight away..

  229. avenell says:

Take off your best defensive midfielder when only 1-0 up and cannot get possesion.. haha good call Fabio.

  230. avenell says:

    Gat in… USA, USA, USA… 🙂

  231. JonJon says:

    who wants rob green again??

  232. avenell says:

Carrot crunching tosser.. Weve got almunia, weve got almunia.. 🙂

  233. JonJon says:

    😉

ive said it a million times..i want a better keeper as much as the next gooner but i dont want rob fucking green..

    id rather keep manny..

    joe hart for me..

  234. JonJon says:

    usa will win this

they’ll just pop shots at green all game..

  235. avenell says:

It’s not easy playing goal for arsenal.. a lot of pressure.. Manny isn’t that bad.

  236. avenell says:

rooney should get sent off any time now..

  237. JonJon says:

hes a good keeper but he cant hack the pressure..he aint got the presence..

we need a keeper whos played at the top level for years really..an experienced keeper whos played at world cups and in cl’s and for a top team and has seen it all and done it all and dont give a shit about pressure..

or we need a keeper who thrives on the pressure and is hungry to make it to the top..

    buffon or joe hart..

  238. JonJon says:

almunia crumbles every big game hes asked to play in..even when its not a big game he still makes schoolboy errors..

    fabianski aint no better..

the fact that ppl are calling for chesney to be number one next season shows how bad the keeper situation has got..

  239. avenell says:

Southgate says England were by far the better side… really!!!!!

  240. avenell says:

James warming up… Greens career over..

  241. avenell says:

James is pretty good at cock ups too..

  242. avenell says:

Carragher on.. that’s a penalty to the US.. 🙂

  243. JonJon says:

    lmao

  244. avenell says:

    Heskey ..hahaha..

  245. JonJon says:

still got his shooting boots i see 😉

  246. JonJon says:

if england dont win this green wont play another match for capello

  247. avenell says:

Back to the turkey stuffers he will go..

  248. JonJon says:

    carraghers customery yellow

  249. avenell says:

    Panic setting in lol..

  250. JonJon says:

    yup..

    i see a red..

  251. avenell says:

    The commentry makes me puke..

  252. JonJon says:

    so do those horns

  253. avenell says:

Roll on the Premiership.. this is crap..

  254. JonJon says:

    yup..

    international football is crap

  255. JonJon says:

that wasnt even a good save…

he got lucky he got nothing on that one either..the post saved him

  256. rico says:
