Just read that the odds on us signing Fulham goal keeper Mark Schwarzer have been cut due to the player’s £4 million price tag. That’s a lot of money for a 37 year old – well in Wengers eyes it would be, I’m not so sure! We could sell Almunia for the same amount to fund the purchase and end up with a top keeper probably for 2/3 seasons. By then, Flapianski will have convinced Wenger that he’s either one of the best Polish keepers in the world or one of the worst!! Chesney and Mannone would have gained more experience and if they are up to the grade, we will have three (more likely two) top keepers, with a couple in the moving up the ranks.
But it seems, according to all the red tops and media, that we are now the big favourites to sign Robert Green from West Ham. I am not convinced by Green, just like I wasn’t with Richard Wright. Just hope Wenger is thinking about him because he has been advised to buy him by David Seaman, and not just because he’s English – if he wants English, Joe Hart has to be the better option.
Good thing is they are both at the World Cup so we will be able to see how they perform up against some of the worlds best, except Drogba of course…. Poor chap suffered a suspected broken arm whilst playing against Japan. I feel sorry for the player, I really do. No, not Drogba, the poor Japanese player who ‘broke’ Drogba’s arm, he was the same player who scored twice for England in their friendly!!
Another player ruled out of the World Cup was new skipper Rio Ferdinand so Michael Dawson has been shipped out to take his place.. Did I not say that Emile Heskey should never have been selected for Fabio’s 23 man squad, well?? That aging old lump is the one who ended Rio’s World Cup dream!
I don’t think Rio’s injury will be the last either, I wouldn’t mind betting either SWP, Lemmon or Barry end up catching the plane home before the tournament begins!!
This is the kind of story I love to read, extract stolen from Young Guns…
‘Arsenal have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Dutch Under 17 international Kyle Ebecilio, according to RTV Rijnmond. The 16-year-old midfielder will join from Feyenoord on July 1st. Ebecilio, a strong and powerful attacking midfielder, has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, but a reported last minute move from the Gunners has seen them seal the deal, much to Feyenoord’s dismay. Kyle is the cousin of Blues defender Jeffrey Bruma.’
Ok, he’s young and I wish we would invest in experience before signing more kids, but this kid is Dutch, he isn’t Spanish, so that’s a good start. He’s strong and powerful, thats good, just what we will need in 3/4 seasons time… Also he’s from Feyenoord 🙂
Then look at some of the Dutch players we have had at the club, Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars and Robin van Persie – all pretty darn good eh – didn’t hear them saying they wanted to go home??
But the best bit about this signing and yes I know you know what i’m going to say…
We beat the bloody Chavs to sign him……. So money isn’t always the winner, is it??
