Foreign kids Arsene, time to give them a break….

Before I get accused of being anything with an ‘ist’ on the end, I am not!!! This is about ‘for the good of our club’

JonJon left this comment a couple of nights ago,

‘this has really changed my perspective on the way our club is run..i dont trust any of the foreign players as far as i can throw them and id rather f**k the lot off now and give the development time to the likes of rambo, gibbs, jet, jack, afobe..’

It was the last comment of the day, a day during which we had all seen an article which included a couple of ‘quotes’ by Cesc Fabregas.

The Spanish midfielder says he has held positive talks with Wenger, and has left the manager to decide what happens next. Fábregas, also the Arsenal captain, said: “I will say only one thing – I have got massive respect for Arsène Wenger, Arsenal football club and the Arsenal fans. Even in my own house, I have not felt as loved as I have at Arsenal. I had a long conversation with Arsène and it was the greatest longest conversation I have had with anyone in my life.

“I respect him, so, so much and I don’t want to say anything more. Wenger said to leave it in his hands and he will deal with whatever happens in the future. It is now all about Arsenal – it is not in my hands. Now I just wait: it is up to Arsenal. Right now all I am thinking about is the World Cup: everything else is the future and I am not going to say anything else.”

You can read those quotes over and over and each time possibly come up with a different interpretation. The one I have come up with is this. Cesc wants to go and he has told Arsene Wenger this. Rather than come out and tell all of us that he has put in a transfer request, he wants to be the ‘good guy’, he wants to leave but be able to turn it around and say ‘it was the clubs decision’ to let him go!

Forgive me, but isn’t being a bit gutless, a bit of a coward? Doesn’t Cesc realise that he would probably be respected more if he were to be a bit more honest? We will love him regardless but I know I will respect him a little less if he pushes one of the biggest decisions of his life into the hands of another man. Is this really fair to ask such of Arsene Wenger, a man he says he has massive respect for?

Regardless of whether Cesc stays or goes, I think JonJon has a very good point, maybe it’s time for the club to change their direction. I don’t mean in terms of play, but in terms of its employees.

IF Cesc leaves, he will join a long list of players who have left us either when just reaching their prime or during their prime during Arsene Wengers reign..

Henry, Overmars, Petit, Toure, Edu, Freddie, Bobby Pires, Gilberto, Wiltord, Silvinho, Paddy, Reyes, Anelka, van Bronkhorst, Diarra, Flamini, Hleb, Lardybayor, Campbell, Lehmann – How many of those players could have stayed one or two extra seasons and maintain their high standards? We made money on some I know, we lost a lot on a few too – but money isn’t always better than a great player, unless it’s Lardy of course!

My view is all of them barr Freddie, were allowed to go when they still had a few years at the top left – and other than Freddie, Sol, Toure and Lardy, all went overseas. Sol was going abroad, but stayed around to0 long at the docks in Portsmouth and ‘Arry nabbed him  😉

Fran Merida is another player we bought very young, paid him a good wage and then let him go on a free….

So is it time we stop buying so many players from overseas? It seems all we do is make them into better players and then sell them, or give them away. Is it time to give a few more of our british players an equal chance? Afer all, isn’t that the ‘real’ youth project, british kids bought through the system and then get to play for the club they love and support. Maybe then we would not lose quite so many, we wouldn’t have to endure the transfer speculation that surrounds our top players each window would we….

We may get the odd one who wants to better their wages like Cashley did, but if the players are true supporters of Arsenal, they wouldn’t entertain playing for another club. Well I know I wouldn’t!  We wouldn’t have to worry about the Madrids, Barcas or Milans because it seems they don’t want the british, it also seems in the last few year the british don’t want to go abroad either – when they do it’s not very often rosy for them…..

Here’s our youth/reserves, not including those who are or have been bought in from overseas.

James Shea                        – 19yrs GK
Sean McDermott              -17yrs GK

Rhema Obed                      – 18yrs RB/CH

Kerrea Gilbert                  – 23yrs Defender
Nicholas Yennaris         – 18 yrs LB/LW
Cedric Evina                     – 18yrs LB/LW

Jay Simpson                      – 21yrs CF
Sanchez Watt                    – 19yrs LM/CF

How old was Cesc Fabregas when he was trusted to take over in midfield – it was the 2004-05 season, which I think makes him just 17yrs old…. Cesc  is a special talent, but we only know that having seen him play over the last few seasons. How can we or Arsene Wenger not be sure that in that crop of players there is not another special talent just waiting for his chance?

I am not saying we should not look/buy players from overseas, what I am suggesting is we stop buying them so young, lets buy them when they have grown up and want to venture away from their home/current club to seek new challenges, when they have experience and can bring something to Arsenal before the ink has dried on their contract, not sign them and have to wait ten years to see them play!!

We all know that not all of the players above are going to have a successful career with Arsenal but as said many many times before, Wenger keeps banging on about youth so why not start blooding a few of these players – get the ones who are going to have a chance and let them be involved with the first team squad a bit more.

Eastmond, Lansbury, Frimpong, Boateng?? Maybe Freeman – who knows?

One thing for sure is, if they don’t get a chance we may never know and they will leave, I would if I wasn’t getting my chance, just like Luke Ayling has already done – the theory about not being old enough is bollox, Cesc blows that one out of the water!!

If these players turn out to be special, at least if they ‘want to go home’, we all know they are already there……

    Morning all

  2. Deano says:

I think you are missing the point of an academy! We have the academy so that we can produce our own talent for the first team! Now considering all the clubs in london vying fo local talent it isnt feasable to go a premier league standard player through every year in every posiion that is why we have to look elsewhere! Now im sure when cesc came through you were as excited about him then the rest of us because he is truly a special player and its hard to find those! But please dont go into give the british the same chance as foreigners! Wilshere and rambo and gibbs and eastmomd havr had more chances in the first team then any of the academy players!

  3. rico says:

Hi Deano, i am not missing the point, i see as you are missing the point of the article – i am saying, we have have a crop of players which may include a few stars, why keep buying youne overseas players who want to one day go home and at an early age – aka merida and cesc??

wilshere, ramsey and gibbs are already listed as being in the first team squad…..

  4. shakyArsene says:

    excellent post

  5. lukychmz says:

Aint Rambo welsh so technically a foreigner….just saying >_>

  6. Mustang says:

    Morning Rico,

Quality post, one that every one should click on the “save” button!

The thing about the Cesc comment is that it leaves it soooo open to interpretation. He certainly hasn’t done what Barca were hoping he would do and that is publicly stating he wants to leave, Cesc is too sensible for that. He never mentioned them by name. That his future is upto Arsenal, I interpret that to say: he wants to go but also leaving the back door open should a deal not be reached with Barca, he is not stupid so he knows that it will take more than what Barca think to buy him.

For the foreign kids bit, I was actually thinking about that last week, scratching my head trying to remember any British player whose dream is to play for RMadrid, barca. Milan, bayern, etc. Plus we seem to give the foreign kids a lot more opportunities and chances to come good while we are quick to get shot of British players.

  7. brdgunner says:

I think the whole point of the youth set up is to bread loyal players to Arsenal. That is what Arsene wants more than anything.

In addition, the most acrimonious of all the players to leave the club is Ashley Cole. A gooner from London.

I do agree that we will get more loyalty from the local lads. Note local lads, I dont think a lad from Mancehster would be more loyal to Arsenal than a lad from France. The local lads and the boys in the youth team dream of playing for Arsenal, the lads in the current team only dream of playing for Milan and Barca. Maybe in the future we will be thought in that light. However, for now we are one of England’s finest clubs.

    That’s good enough for me.

  8. Deano says:

English kids aren’t getting thrust into the limelight too soon because of whats happend to Theo, so much expectation that when he doesn’t perfrom he is crucified. We have to be patient but im sure we have enough talent in wilshere, rambo, gibbs, eastmond, JET, henderson, lansbury, aneke(who is the biggest talent), afobe that you will get your wish of a predominately british squad (with the odd foreigner thrown in to keep the moaners happy).

  9. rico says:

    Morning Mustang, thanks 🙂

Hi brd, i did refer to cole, saying we will get the odd greedy bastard like him, but hopefully people will get the drift, why keep buy vey young players from overseas when we have enough right now, add them to the british kids and right now we have enough. Use what money we have to buy experience….

  10. rico says:

Deano, not every brit is going to be as fragile as Theo….

  11. rico says:

luky, morning, but i have written british in my post, not english 🙂

  12. rico says:

brd, but a player from manchester won’t want to go to madrid/barca – see my point? he is a drive away from home, not a whole new way of life……

  13. Victoria Concordia Crescit says:

    Hi there Mr!

I can agree with you to a certain extent in what you’re saying. I think it would be super if we had some more English/British players in the first team, because as you say, it would be easier to keep hold of them once they break through to the first team. Then there’s something which I don’t agree with as well. Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid aren’t buying English players for a reason, most of them simply doesn’t make the grade outside of England. Don’t get me wrong. Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard are (besides from being massive c***s) really good football players, but I really can’t see any of them go and play for Barcelona or Real Madrid. It’s quite remarkable how few English players there is who’s playing abroad, isn’t it? You see Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch and German players in most of Europe’s top leagues, but the English players only play in England or Scotland. Gazza didn’t really make it in Italy, neither did Platt and I can’t say Beckham had the time of his life in Madrid either?

About Arsenal buying players from abroad at a young age. I don’t think we have much of a choice there if we really want them to come and play for us. If we don’t get them, some other club will. We can’t just sit and wait ’til they grow up and then think we’ll have a chance to sign them. Then United get them, or Chelsea, or Barca and so on. I think the competition for young, talented players are massive and if anything, I think we’re going to bring them to us at an even younger age than now. Which is kinda sick I have to say, but that’s where football’s going.

From the list of players you mentioned (Henry, Overmars, Petit, Toure, Edu, Freddie, Bobby Pires, Gilberto, Wiltord, Silvinho, Paddy, Reyes, Anelka, van Bronkhorst, Diarra, Flamini, Hleb, Lardybayor, Campbell, Lehmann) I miss most of them. But to be fair to Wenger, there were circumstances which made the decision to let them go, correct in most of the cases above. For me, I regret Flamini and Reyes, I think both of them still could have made an impact at Arsenal.

Anyway, I think you’re making a good point in trying to bring more young, British players in to the first team. And I think this is what Wenger and Bouldy is up to as well with the new “home-grown” rules coming into effect and all. Let’s hope for at least 50% British players in the first team in about 5-6 years time!

  14. rico says:

Mustang, players only have to look back at Beckham and Owen to see how difficult life at a club like Madrid is – if they don’t hit the ground running when they move they soon get dumped on the bench…

Will be interesting to see if Jose does get Cashley and Gerrard….

  15. rico says:

Morning VCC, welcome to AR, you were in spam due to a little ‘c’ word which i have edited 😉

  16. rico says:

The one i miss most is Bobby P, he still had a good couple of years left in him…

  17. brdgunner says:

    Hi Rico,

Also we have this group of local players now. We didn’t have 4, 5 years ago hence purchasing from abroad.

I believe this current team is here to carry us through a difficult time while we prepare the team below. The local kids you mention in your article. I am sure Jack Wilshire, JET, Frimpong, Henri, et al won’t leave us for foreign clubs.

We put all our effort into to building a team with a strong local presence that would be good enough to compete at the highest level.

That took funds away from the first team so Arsene built a team using the little funds available. That meant young foreign players. It is testament to him that he managed to do as much as he has. He really is a remarkable man.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  18. Victoria Concordia Crescit says:

I could see that… Heh! What kinda world are we living in when one can’t spell out the certain parts of the the female body on the internet without being censored? Huh? 😉

There’s even clubs having a certain part of the male body on their clubs crest for everyone to see! Those filthy cock-on-a-ballers up the road… 😉

The funny thing with those symbols you always put in there instead of the actual letters “unt” looks a little bit like ANOTHER certain part of the body, quite close to the censored parts.

    Cheers!

And I won’t be nasty on you’re site again Mr, I promise!

  19. Erick says:

Morning all Rico I feel Aw does not realy care where he spots talent baring France 😉 he just wants the best and where he finds he wants to keep may be Britian aint providing enough but its true this home sickness or DNA thing is screwing us up we take the risks and get a bullet for it am telling you Alphafemale 😉 😉 it sucks

  20. rico says:

brd, i am not knocking what he has done, honest, but just believe its time to change for a while… get some steel in 🙂

  21. rico says:

Morning Erick, you have made me smile 🙂

Got to pop out for half an hour, will be back shortly, your in charge Erick 😉

  22. Victoria Concordia Crescit says:

    Rico//

About Bobby: Agreed! Will always miss him. He’s actually also the reason my girlfriend got interested in football. Wonder why…?

  23. johnny says:

I’m sure Theo could have been put up front to chase long balls over the top and done a decent job, but Wenger wants to have him learn on the wings some skills which in the long run will turn him into a world class player.

  24. brdgunner says:

I appreciate what your saying, I just believe it was a necessity. If he wanted British players that are good enough for the level we play at it would have cost us.

Eboue, Clichy, Toure, Denilson, RVP, Niki, et al. All under 3m. Nicky Butt went for 5m when he was 30+ years old. Darren Bent 16m.

I don’t believe it would have been feasible. I cant wait t here some true southern talking Gooner saying he thinks we were mustard today. I just feel it was a must to do it they way we have.

The name of your blog is significant of the type of Gooner you are. I am confident in time we will do as you, I and every Gooner wishes. And have a team of Londoners. That’s the dream. Ha ha.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  25. Erick says:

    Okay Rico take care 🙂

  26. brdgunner says:

The irony of the Northern sounding sentence

“I cant wait t hear,” (and spelt wrong’ ha ha.) Was a mistake.

  27. Erick says:

People also forget that Micheal Owen was at R.Madrid and he was scoring goals but he was always on the bench

  28. Erick says:

Brdgunner I feel foreigners are necessary but with caution we have to find the balance but local lads gives the club identity

  29. K-TR7 says:

MorningRico i agree with the whole post!look at bendy he is a decent player but he said he dreams of barca/madrid.if we continue giving him chances instead of looking for a better player at his peak he will continue to cost us due to inexperience unlike buying an experienced player.if bendy becomes a worldbeater he will leave us as soon barca/madrid blink an eye…its all gonna go down the drain.if we had bought villa he would have given us his peak years since he would’ve relished a fresh challenge away from spain…

  30. brdgunner says:

    Erick –

Its a means to an end I think. As a club I believe we are working very hard on keeping our tradition.

  31. Erick says:

Morning K-tr7 I would sell him Nikky we need guys that are fully focused we aint making anymore stars for the spanish stains Aw should be strict on that front

  32. charybdis1966 says:

Hi Rico – you racialist ! Is it because I is black ? 🙂
But seriously, we are well overloaded with fooreign wonderkids, and even Wenger seems to agree, as I’m sure he said not too long ago that we have enough players “with potential” and we now need experience.
Of course talk is cheap and the ultimate test will be the shape of the squad come July 17 when we see our new signings at Underhill.

  33. Erick says:

Brd gunner Aw sticks to his principles like a soldier, he is trying to get some local talent more than before the new rules will be great for British football

  34. Erick says:

Chary I don’t see massive changes to the squad the defence is crap with Dj and TV we need like two more and a keeper which is must but Chesney is potential

  35. RodGoonerInTtown says:

Nice post, its sad when teams like Inter Milan win the Champions League with one domestic player…

  36. charybdis1966 says:

Therein lies the problem Erick, Wenger has traditionally said that changes of more than 2 or 3 ins or outs in a season are too disruptive so while past experience of Arsenal transfer windows will suggest little in the way of change the fact that we’ve under recruited for quite a while – for example last summer, 2 first teamers out(Adeymy-whore, Kolo), only 1 in(Verminator), the summer of 2008, 3 first teamers out(Hleb, Flamini, Gilberto) 1(Nasri) in – would logically imply the squad has to be bolstered above and beyond 2 players in (i.e Chamak + one other.)
To my mind we need another goalie, a Centre back(or 2 if Gallas or Campbell are off) and a Defensive midfielder. Naturally another winger(perhaps to replace Vela who appears to be angling for a move out) would be nice too.

  37. RodGoonerInTtown says:

BTW Seattle Sounders beat Boca Jr. (Argentinian Man U) 3-0. Chelsea beat the Sounders 2-0 last summer, I was there in Seattle, didn’t have a clue I was watching the EPL champs, Sturridge scored in that game

  38. rico says:

    Morning again all …

  39. Erick says:

Chary so we are hoping Aw will do 4 changes which is least likely Rodgooner Boca are on the down but produce massive talent

  40. rico says:

chary, i hope wenger is truthing, not sure how many foreign kids we have in our reserves/academy, but if they dont get to play early in their time with us, they will follow Merida

  41. rico says:

thanks for holding the fort Erick 🙂

  42. Ray parlours barber says:

Nonsense. How much does an overseas player cost when he is ready to move to the premier league? Costs a lot less to scour the globe and get 7 years out of them like cesc than try to buy someone of this quality. Our top young british players will come through (Aneke, Afobe, Freeman etc) when they are ready.

Agree that we have sold a lot of players before they are past the peak of their career and it is very disappointing when they go but why would we keep a player that doesn’t want to stay?

I still hold (some) hope that Cesc stays. But if we appropriately invest the money or get certain barca players in exchange + some money then it’s a good result. It’s the nature of football.

Plus people need to have some faith with some of hte young foreign guys that are here already – song, denilson etc will keep improving.

  43. rico says:

Morning Ray, then we disagree, Song is a very good player already, Denilson and Diaby?? Do you think either of two will honestly get any better?

I am saying just take a break from buying more kids, pay a wage only for them to walk away oneday… Cesc staying for four years, of course he has, but now his is near the peak of his game and we may lose him….

  44. charybdis1966 says:

It’s all down to get the balance of youth and experience right – you get that right and we win trophies and even foreign kids want to stay longer. I’m not so sure we have to be as racialistic as you(only kidding chuck!) about young talent but a winning team stays together.

  45. Ray parlours barber says:

I certainly agree in investing in experience… way way way overdue. I also would like more british players in the side, but at the end of the day I would rather the best players regardless of where they are from.

I also reckon denilson will come good. He was very inexperienced when he came here and is only getting better. Diaby no!!

  46. rico says:

🙂 chary, i agree to a point, but why did we lose a few players after the invincibles season?? They didn’t want to stay together for long after 😦

  47. rico says:

RP, please don’t think i give a toot about where a player is frome, honetly I don’t – all i’m trying to say is right now we don’t need more kids, the club are paying them a wage that would be better paid to an experienced player. Start winning again, keep a great squad together and bring players through who are on the cusp of the first team….

  48. charybdis1966 says:

Not sure Rico, who went in the summer of 2004, can you remember? I know Paddy, Bobby, DB10 & Thierry stayed. I think TA06 may have retired then…

  49. charybdis1966 says:

    No, TA06 retired in 2002.

  50. Ray parlours barber says:

Controversial, but if we are going to sign semi-unknown quantities like chamakh, why wouldn’t we try to sign Joe Colet on a free? Adds depth and IMO talent and deprives chelsea or spurs or any of rivals that may sign him.

I can’t wait till we lock away our defence for next season.

  51. Ray parlours barber says:

Controversial, but if we are going to sign semi-unknown quantities like chamakh (starter or squad player??), why wouldn’t we try to sign Joe Cole on a free? Adds depth and IMO talent and deprives chelsea or spurs or any of rivals that may sign him.

I can’t wait till we lock away our defence for next season.

  52. Erick says:

Rico had a road block to complete glad i was of service to her Majesty Alpha Female 🙂

  53. rico says:

Good question chary, best get my old grey matter working 😉

  54. Erick says:

RP be sure Aw will sign a defender and may be a keeper he said only two more signing

  55. rico says:

That’s not contraversial RP, its a valid point about Cole, i am not sure about Chamakh being an unknown quantity though, he has won the league with Bordox so he knows what its like to win a trophy, hopefully he can bring the winning mentatitly to Arsenal…

Cole has been injured but not sure if that injury will hamper his future? But he is the kind of player we need, experienced and British and free – I wouldn’t mind SWP, Richards and Cahill, one or two of them would be good for us.

  56. Erick says:

TA06 whose social security number is that 🙂 🙂

  57. rico says:

I still hope he surprises us Erick, I am beginning to look forward to the window opening. I want Cesc to stay, but if he goes at least we know wenger will have the money to spend…

  58. Erick says:

Rico you forgot Ireland who I think can spank Diaby for a place in the first eleven

  59. Ray parlours barber says:

Erick – yeah these are the two positions wenger will look to fill, but while we don’t have the sol-man locked in for next season and presumably Gallas goes I still feel we may need more than one CB. Also am worried about how djourou will go next season.

Rico – richards would be the ideal signing IMO. Not sure about SWP, but he would add depth.

I also am deeply worried we won’t sign a new keeper. So frustrating!!

  60. rico says:

I did Erick, i really rate him, but City will ask silly money for him i think, especailly after we robbed them of 40M for Toure and Lardy 😉

  61. W.A.T.H says:

Rico, Richards is a party pimp and we dont want him trust me on that one… Cahill I wouldnt mind, cole is a show pony and a midget so to SWP midget that is and we have far to many of them. The post on a whole is spot on though and these foreigners just wanna shoot off soon as they made it big…! ( Mostly )

As for Diaby we all know he shit and Denilson isn’t Flamini and thats who AW is trying to make him like and it doesnt work.

Erick u off hunting and now dealing with roadblock, I said u was a bandit…!

  62. Erick says:

Rico I know you having being saying you have a good feeling about this summer hope your right the Cesc saga am done talking whatever will be will be but I’d like him to stay but we need to improve the squad and get his replacement

  63. W.A.T.H says:

Rico if Cesc stays or not we got PLENTY money its purely down to Mr Stubborn does he spent it or not…!

  64. rico says:

We all share your concerns over the keeper situation RP, thats why SWP and Cole would be good additions, when we suffer injuries we lack a bit of clout on the bench – we need a stronger squad, one that Diaby and Denilson don’t feature in 😉

Mannone and Chesney will come good imho, but its still a season or two too early for them, we need a 32yrs plus old keeper to keep the gloves warm 🙂

  65. Ray parlours barber says:

WATH if Cesc goes I reckon it’ll be predominantly a player swap thing. Surely thats why ‘his futures in wengers hands’ i.e. if wenger can’t get the players he wants from it we tell them to f*ck off!!!!!

  66. rico says:

Morning WATH, but for strength and depth surely Cole and SWP would add something – at least they might be able to find Chamakh with a cross, unlike some right now…

I will take your word on Richards and forget all about him 😦

  67. rico says:

He has to spend it WATH, PHW has said he will 😉

  68. rico says:

RP, who would you want from Barca??

I’d rather they pay up 80M or do like you say, f%%%k off

  69. Erick says:

RP i would rather we get a class keeper and one defender and risk Djourou and TV than not getting a keeper and buying two defenders.oi oi oi Sailor its raining elephants and hippos not the ideal weather for hunting so am sad 🙂 🙂

  70. W.A.T.H says:

Relax Rico Becks teaching Theo how 2 cross lol 😉

RP I reckon AW don’t want any of the players they willing to let go hence it’s strictly a cash deal or no deal and go fuck emselves….! If I knew hand on heart we’d get 50/60 million 4 him and KNEW AW would spend it on players I’d not b 2 bothered BUT I have no faith at all that he would spend it on players so the whole thing is a worry…!. Rico plenty others about better than Cole n swp….. no more midgets…!

  71. rico says:

Now there is one of the best teachers in my book – Whether or not Theo is able enough to grasp the art of crossing though, i dont know 😉

But Cole is free, you know wenger likes that word..

i’m with you WATH, if i knew he would spend the 80M, i wouldn’t be too fussed either, wenger can buy a new team with 80 M 🙂

  72. W.A.T.H says:

PHW talks utter tosh Rico……. saying he got dosh and TELLING him to spend it different matter entirely….!.

  73. Ray parlours barber says:

To be honest not sure who I would want from the Barca squad that they would actually give us… but why not push for a couple of guys like krkic (maybe too lightweight), toure (don’t like him for some reason), TH14 (would be great to see another season + could still add something to the team). I’ve more or less disproved my argument above about swapping for players. Not sure of the answer, but most of hte guys in their first team squad would be value adding for us at least from a squad depth perspective.

Maybe ask for xavi and he can play on the bench behind denilson… 🙂

  74. Erick says:

Rico Messi 🙂 oh your asking RP 😉 Rp true the Cesc saga if Aw says he doesn’t like them stains they have to do atleast 45 mil minimum Wath Aw when will Aw learn crap Micah Richard is a no no don’t like his game too undecided and gets silly bookings

  75. rico says:

and there was me beilieving our own ‘red nose’ WATH 😉

  76. W.A.T.H says:

I gotta go clean the garden the dog has done loads of Barca’s all over the grass…..!

    Back in a bit…!

  77. Mustang says:

The other thing that disappoints me with the whole Ceac thing is that Wenger actually let some players leave so he could build the team around Cesc, made him the face of the club, the captain, gave him a whopping pay rise then he remembers he has barca DNA. Soo wrong!

  78. K-TR7 says:

Morning wath.how come fans are talking about barca?i though we agreed that they pay up or fuck off!i watched our demolition of the chavs at the grove in 07-08.we battered them while playing some sublime footy.rosicky really impressed,he was everywhere…i hope we rebuild to a winning level…

  79. Erick says:

The board is money minded thats for sure they would never spend the 50 + or – you would hear the market is ubnormal or people are leaving in mars

  80. rico says:

WATH, ours are having a shampoo and cut – two hours peace 🙂

  81. rico says:

Mustand – that is so true, and if we carry on with the young ‘next cesc’ he will do the same….

KTR7, its difficult not to talk about them right now….. the gits!!!

  82. Erick says:

Mustang that real gets me fumed up what the hell do we sign contracts or increase a player wage he signs it kisses the badge then he decides DNA is more important than an agreement holy cow

  83. Erick says:

Anybody read about a documentary of the Manc investigating their debt and the 80 mil that madrid paid for cristiano K-tr7

  84. rico says:

No Erick, is it worth a read??

  85. K-TR7 says:

Erick i read it.fergie doesn’t speak to BBC journo’s anyway…the way barca players line up like little girls while raising their skirts hoping to get cesc’s attention…barca DNA?what is that?was cesc a test tube baby?or is he laporta’s long lost son?pay up or sod off!

  86. Erick says:

I saw it on goal.com its supposed to premier on BBC but nothing new Glazer, red knight and all that crap

  87. Erick says:

    K-tr7 🙂

  88. Erick says:

Rico what happened to STV missed hearing from him 😦

  89. Erick says:

Another Presidential hopeful from the stains in Barca inga or somebody is talking Cesc he says money aint nothing WTH

  90. K-TR7 says:

Laporta has a face id love to have a swing at…wipe that smug look off his face.i hate barca as much as the mancs now and that is saying something…

  91. rico says:

Not sure Erick, i may email him later

  92. K-TR7 says:

Don’t worry erick, the politicians will say anything to gather enough votes…they’d even tap up our groundsman those(insert word)…

  93. TAL says:

That’s right lets gather a team of Milner lookalikes, forget flair, after all the Italian English ream managers says the J Milner is the future of English football…my arse.

  94. W.A.T.H says:

Gee cant believe so much barca from one dog….. he must really dislike em…

K-T how you mate… All good I hope. Right I’m off for the day see you all 2moro sometime maybe… Got a lot of drinking to catch up on with mates I have neglected last few weeks. You lot behave and take it easy. Chat soon….!

  95. rico says:

Got to pop and collect the groomed pups 🙂

No comment from you please WATH 😉

    See you shortly

  96. rico says:

See you soon WATH, don’t drink too much 🙂

  97. K-TR7 says:

    Later wath…

  98. Erick says:

    Sailor safe sailing

  99. nutcracker says:

I don’t know if this point has been made already, but I’ll still make it. Firstly, I do agree with the post and would deraly love some English steel in the club (and I’m not even English). However, there is only a small catchment area that we have from which we can sign youth players to the academy. I believe it is a 100 mile radius around the club. However, we can sign foreign players from anywhere in the world and this makes them an attractive proposition. Also, it seems to me that there aren’t too many English players who have the flair that the continental players demonstrate. So I do understand why we adopt this policy.

  100. rico says:

    Afternoon all,

good point nutcracker, but, its all about balance, in some games when we play with the flare we come off second best, we need to get the right mix/players to be able to adopt a different approach – we can pass pass pass all day long but sometimes a good old ball over the defence for a striker to run on to would be the answer..

when wenger first played the attractive football it took the league by surprise, but its old style now, we have been sussed out so he has to think about alternative options to win us the games where we face eleven players in defence….

  101. rico says:

This is interesting if its true…. If its is true, surely someone is on the way out – why would wenger want nikki, robin, dudu, chamakh, vela and walcott….

Hugo Rodallega admits his Wigan future is in doubt after revealing Arsenal have made an offer for him.

  102. nutcracker says:

Interesting that the quote is tributed to the Sun, but I went to their website and I can’t find the quote anywhere. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.

  103. rico says:

    I’ll take a peep nutcracker… 😉

  104. charybdis1966 says:

Is that play with a red, explosive flare, Rico ?
    I konw, I konw..p[edantic so & so.

  105. rico says:

The article i read was from The Daily Mail, i wonder if the player was sat in the sunshine 😉

  106. charybdis1966 says:

I even put in some typos for added comic effect 😉

  107. rico says:

chary, you are one of the most pedantic bloggers around you old tinker – talking of which, how is Rasputin 😉 😉

  108. rico says:

I realised chary 😉 many years ago at school i used to get picked up for using the wrong spelling – i didn’t care then either 😉 😉

  109. charybdis1966 says:

I did laugh when I saw that, I had a mental image of our starting eleven taking to the field with little rocket flares stuffed in their socks and setting them off on the referees whistle.
Raspers is fine, I see him before the games for a pre match drink up. Still struggling to get 11 players for his cricket team though.

  110. rico says:

If there are flares on the pitch before the whistle blows chary, i know where i would put them 😉

Godd to hear Rasp is doing fine, bummer about the cricket team though – we shared a love for the boys in whites – 🙂

  111. charybdis1966 says:

I may even turn out for his team, if he gets desperate enough and the ball & chain gives me a day pass.

  112. rico says:

I’d give it a go too if i was nearer, i loved my days of playing cricket, too early to play against Rachael Hey-Ho (deliberate) but young enough to have faced Claire Taylor 🙂

  113. charybdis1966 says:

It’d be an hour or so away from me also but it might be a giggle, as long as it wasn’t too competitive.
Can’t say I know who Claire Taylor is, although I have heard of Flinty.

  114. charybdis1966 says:

    Isn’t Friday new signing day?

Please can we see a decent player holding our shirt up with Wenger beaming in the background?

    That would be cool.

  115. rico says:

chary, Claire Taylor, you don’t know who she is, best you go and ask Rasp 😉

    Or Google her 😉

  116. rico says:

The windows not open yet chary, we can only sign freebies i think…. roll on Tuesday and let the summer really begin, i can’t wait to see who wenger has lined up….

  117. charybdis1966 says:

A bit annoying that Athletico are parading Merida and they can although his contract is not up for another month yet. I think we’re the only Patsy’s who stick to the rules – they don’t seem to apply to the Spanish.
I was told the reason Villa got paraded to Barca was because it was a Spain to Spain transfer.

  118. agirlagunner says:

Hello, all. Catching up on the comments.

  119. rico says:

chary, when they are off on a free, they can do what they like i think 😦 It saddens me so much to lose Merida…. 😦

  120. rico says:

    Good afternoon AGAG… 🙂

  121. charybdis1966 says:

Fran Merida: “I was very comfortable at Arsenal, but when I knew of the interest from Athletico then I did not hesitate” – so there you have it, once a club from their native country comes calling they do not hesitate. We are less of an attraction to players than Athletico Madrid. Terrific, and reason why taking talented youngsters from abroad does not work long term.

    Hi girlag.

  122. charybdis1966 says:

Do you know why Villa was paraded then Rico – the usual Barca disdain for the rules that apply to everyone else but them or the reason I was suggested?

  123. rico says:

chary, that is exactly the point of my post today, wenger keeps buying the kids from overseas, but wont get them involved – why has Merida not been one of the subs to come on this season? No, we have to see the likes of Diaby and Denilson, Merida will be world class and we didn’t give him the same chance as we gave Cesc…. You wait and see, he will be awesome….

  124. rico says:

i don’t how barca have been allowed to parade villa, by doing so they have totally taken the pee out of the window imho – why bother having a TW when its not adhered to? grrrrrr

Villa is not on a free so i don’t get it at all…. unless like you ssy there is a country/country rule which i am sure there isn’t…

  125. agirlagunner says:

Merida says Wenger was displeased. Well, I bet he was! I still can’t believe we’re losing/have lost all the Spanish except the one we’d really like to lose.

  126. agirlagunner says:

@rico, Barca flouts the rules with such brazenness, it appalls me how they haven’t been brought to task.

But rico, I guess few players are as paradable as Villa. 🙂 If I were in the vicinity, I might have taken a peek too…

  127. charybdis1966 says:

Good point Girlag, it’s just typical the ones we don’t want hang around and the others are like ET and can’t wait to “go home.”

  128. charybdis1966 says:

The annoying thing is that if we broke the rules like that Girlag/Rico then Platinin would be all over us before you could say “Vendetta-against-Arsenal/Wenger”
Barca are the darlings of the European media in the way the Manskummers are here and they can get away with screaming blue murder.
Filthy, cheating, underserving gits both of them.

  129. rico says:

    I’m sad about Merida…. 😥 (he’s so cute)

moving on, AGAG, like chary said, why are they allowed, surely one day Mr Platinni has to get involved?

As for the one ‘left behind’ – i pray he is packing his suitcases and sorting the removal men as we speak, he only has until Monday, then the keys have to handed over by midday 😉

  130. rico says:

spooky chary re platinni – why does he sit back on his plump one and do nothing????

  131. charybdis1966 says:

Cos it doesn’t involve having a go at english clubs,Rico and specifically Arsenal.
I wish he’d just resign and the replacement wouldn’t have a vendetta agai nst us like he does.

  132. rico says:

who would be his boss chary, surely they must be able to see how bias they are against us? you would think he would favour us really baring in mind our boss is french – i wonder if he and arsene have had cross words in the past??

  133. agirlagunner says:

lol, chary. Why can’t it be the Almunias, Denilsons, Flappyhandskis of this world that ever decide to ship out? I’d even throw them a proper send off!

Platini is a disgrace! Didn’t his own dad tell him off after his attack on Wenger over video replays?

  134. charybdis1966 says:

I read somewhere that Platini’s dad took Wenger under his wing, rather than his son, when he was an aspiring manager and ever since then he’s felt hurt by the sleight. Since then he never misses an opportunity to slag off Wenger and Arsenal.

  135. rico says:

what a twurp, eh, he’ll be out soon chary….

AGAG, thats it it one, the reason being they are sub-standard and only our daft boss would keep them, oh, and even play them 😦

  136. agirlagunner says:

Interesting, chary. Somewhat explains the resentment. Between Wenger and Platini, it’s fairly easy to tell who is the more cerebral, and hence, more likely to succeed as a manager though. 🙂 How it must have rankled.

  137. rico says:

Citeh are offloading Lardy 🙂 🙂

  138. agirlagunner says:

I just saw that, rico. Well, he’d be in AC ‘Beyonce’ Milan’s payroll soon. He must be thrilled.

  139. rico says:

😆 AGAG, or will Jose finally get his man, he wanted him at Inter I think…. He could be off to Real Madrid… Oh lets watch him fail with glee 😉

  140. Erick says:

Howdy all whats new Ademoney is off 🙂

  141. rico says:

He is supposedly Erick, funny isn’t it 😆

  142. rico says:

Right you fine folk, I have a busy evening so will have to bid you wonderful ones goodnight – you all stay safe and be good….

    see you tomorrow 🙂

    Nighty night…

  143. agirlagunner says:

Night, rico. Have fun! Keep safe.

    Hola, Erick!

  144. Erick says:

Hi Agag how was the day Night Rico take care

  145. K-TR7 says:

    Hello agag.how you doing?

  146. agirlagunner says:

A little under the weather, I even skipped margarita night. LOL. Et vous?

  147. Erick says:

I was reading Mou interview and I admire the guy knows his stuff well

  148. Erick says:

Oh Sorry Agag get well soon should I call Wath 😉

  149. JonJon says:

    top post rico..

its such a valid point..wenger wants to bring all these players through that have the clubs values from an early age but they dont give a shit..they are using us as a stepping stone and wenger knows this becasue he gives them all massive contracts in case they make it so he can offlaod them for high prices..

  150. JonJon says:

    hi guys..

anyone know if this cesc rumour blaming PHW is true?

  151. Erick says:

Jj evening hope you have seen Merida’s interview all of them are waiting for offers then they will leave us not fair at all

  152. Erick says:

JJ its just what you say a rumour who are this friends Cesc talks to when the Barca stains want him its just a media circus

  153. agirlagunner says:

Nah, Erick. He’ll just give me GG, and I might as well not have skipped margarita night. 🙂

Hola, KTR7. Some of our young foreign players do not have enough pride in the shirt or appreciation of our history. Just look at the last North London derby. 😦

  154. agirlagunner says:

Hey, JJ. Pfft. If that is claimed by the Fabregas camp at all, then it makes them look even sillier than they already do. Cesc’s feelings cannot possibly be that delicate that he couldn’t take PHW’s (admittedly gratuitous) remarks.

Fabregas & co. are just grasping at any available excuse, IMHO.

  155. Erick says:

AGAG am here for you 😉 want a shakie 🙂 Am tired of us working so hard and someone else in spain getting paid instead of us Aw should buy established stars and reduce the amount of Dosh he spends on project spain

  156. agirlagunner says:

Yes please, make it mango banana! Stick in a paper parasol. Oh and a cherry!

Project Spain is a complete failure. One has gone, one is going, and unfortunately, there’s one who just won’t go away.

I want van de Vaart! And he thinks we’re a great club!

  157. JonJon says:

anyone got a link to meridas interview??

personally i think its a cheap excuse by cesc..phw is rather foolish and doesnt say the right things the best of times but if cesc is using that as an excuse then hes more of a sell out than i thought he was..

all im waiting for now is his transfer request..but if hes got any love for us he wont do that..

  158. Erick says:

Coming right up Agag 🙂 🙂 This will be the biggest test for Aw the way he deals with both the transfer market and Cesc may determine his status at Arsenal especially his legacy

  159. Erick says:

Jj you can read a small extract from the younggunz blog its where I read it from. Cesc aing god after all mmmmh

  160. agirlagunner says:

There are some quotes in tribalfootball too,jj.

If he had stayed in London to recover, he’d have been less susceptible to give in to pressure from Barca, Barca players, papa Fabregas… I can’t believe how easily he was swayed.

  161. JonJon says:

    AGAG
    good shout
VDV is an awesome player and id love him to link up with VP like he does for holland

  162. JonJon says:

cheers guys i’ll have a read

thing is agag is that cesc has always wanted to go back and it was obvious the barca media and players were told to get to him in the spanish squad for the worldcup..

theres too many variables for him to say no now..he just loves barca too much and his mind is made up..

  163. agirlagunner says:

jj, he’s being linked to the Mancs. No. No. No. If Cesc goes, we should have money to buy him!

And he and Robin get on well! 🙂

  164. JonJon says:

    meridas dream club was athletico??

wasnt a hard choice then was it??

    eeny, meeny, miny, madrid!!!

  165. JonJon says:

i dont want to lose cesc i think we would be better if we built a team of van persies and vander vaarts around him..wenger said he had the money so i dont want to see us spend it only because weve sold cesc

    its another cheap cop out

  166. agirlagunner says:

I think he’s gone, jj. After how poorly this was handled, what has he to go back to? Which is NOT to say, I didn’t rather he stayed, but it’s all just about the money now.

Shame, he’d have been legend here.

We are said to HAVE MONEY. There’s been no evidence of that in ages. We were fortunate with TV5- fantastic purchase; but we’ve only brought in Sol; Chamakh is on a free; and tbh, I have not been thrilled by the players we’ve been linked to in recent days. Do we really want Schwarzer? Or Rodallega?

  167. K-TR7 says:

    Mourinho’s interview is quite impressive…howdy jj…

  168. JonJon says:

deep down in our hearts we all knew he’d go AGAG

    we arent winning anything..

its not about the money hes paid enough here..he wouldnt get that much better anywhere else..

its all down to the fact barca are clearing up and hes missing out..weve sub conciuosly been counting the years down for a while now..

and no we dont want swarzer or rodellaga but thats how low the club have stooped with transfers recently that the media naturally think its funny to publish this ..

would these players be linked with anyone else in the top 4??? no..

we are becoming a laughing stock..

if they young or if they shit they will be linked to arsenal..

  169. JonJon says:

    hey up ktr7

    have you got a link??

by the way if you dont mind me asking where are you from/based??

  170. agirlagunner says:

What, I meant JJ, was how much AW will let Cesc go for, since he is leaving for sure. My fault. I wasn’t clear. Heartbreaker he may be, but money-grabbing he isn’t, our Cesc. It makes me sad, he won’t be “ours” for long now.

  171. JonJon says:

he wont be cheap AGAG.. 😉

hes under enough pressure from the fans as it is..
