What’s the difference between Cardiff, Blackpool and Arsenal??

Bit of a fun one, but of course the answer is easy isn’t it, we haven’t played (in a worthwhile game)Β at the new Wembley!

In between the gardening and over heating in the glorious sunshine yesterday, I watched some of the play-off match between Blackpool and Cardiff and from what I saw, it was a great game of football, its such a shame that either side had to lose.

Great goals, a slip by the resident disc jockey, a few ‘Almunia/Flapianski’ moments, but either side could hold their own in the Premiership I’m sure. During the last ten minutes, Cardiff reminded me a bit of Arsenal, near on all the possession but for love nor money they couldn’t get a cross to find the head of one of their own. I wanted them to get the equaliser but only so we could all get to see another thirty minutes of the two sides…

Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal Board will be very happy with the result I am sure, you can just imagine them worrying about having to pay the Toll fee when travelling away to Cardiff can’t you!! πŸ™‚

Anyway, well done to Ian Holloway and Blackpool, another tough trip up north for us next season and all the best to Cardiff, next season for you hopefully…..

Not much news around really, but it seems one in and one out as Fran Merida’s agent has confirmed that the player will sign for At. Madrid in the next few days. Forget whether or not you think this lad could be good, apparently we are supposed to have made a last-ditch offer to him in attempt to keep him.. Why, not why keep him, but why do we always leave it until the eleventh-hour before trying to get a player to stay?? If Wenger and the club rate Merida, why has he not been either more involved with the first team (instead of Diaby or Denilson) or sat down, told how the club see his future, tie him down to a longer contract and then send him on loan like Jack Wilshere???

I just don’t get it sometimes….. That’s another player who has gone for free, as no doubt will Gallas, Silvestre and Senderos – put them all together and we could have got at least 15M and that equals a darn decent defender!!

For a club so tight with its spending, it sure lets money fly out of the window when players leave on a freebie!

One player who is coming up and we all know about is JET, he has just completed his loan and can’t wait for the 2010/11 season to start, the 19-year-old will now take his summer break before reporting back for pre-season when he hopes to make his mark in front of ArsΓ¨ne Wenger.

“This has been a good season for me,” he said. “Hopefully I can continue that next season.

“I’ll have a little break and then return for pre-season where I can make a big impression. Pre-season makes a big difference’

Pre-season, blimey, let’s get the summer over first and get the new boys in πŸ™‚

Finally, on a day where many players are being linked to many clubs, well, except ours, Old Red Nose has taken a swipe at a few managers in an interview where he talks about who has posed the biggest threat to him,

“Wenger, over time, and Graham were tougher rivals. It was hot stuff between United and Arsenal until three or four years ago.”Β

Graham won the title twice in 1989 and 1991, Wenger won the Double in 1998 and 2002 and the Premier League with his unbeaten Invincibles in 2004.Ferguson and Wenger are the two longest-serving Premier League managers and the Old Trafford boss is intent on continuing his rivalry with the Frenchman.

Let’s hope Wenger gives Fergie something to worry about next season as he sure as heck hasn’t done for the last few years!

Have a good day all, it’s gunner be a hot one in the UK

    Morning all….

Barca won’t be getting it all their own way next season, Moanrinho has confirmed he is off to Real Madrid………

  2. rico says:

fabgooner, take your insults and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine, you are not welcome here!!

  3. c gander says:

The 1997-2004 Wenger was like a different manager to the wenger we have now in regards to, mentality, the style of football played, charisma, transfer policy, hunger. I mean the old wenger wouldnt settle for 2nd best let alone 3rd and 4th!

  4. rico says:

morning c gander, too right he wouldn’t, i want the old manager back

  5. MistaKen says:

I know the difference between the current Arsenal and Blackpool. We don’t have as many players committed to the cause as Blackpool. If we did we would not lose games against Blackburn, Stoke and Wigan.

  6. rico says:

Hi MistaKen, spot on, even the old man Omerod (spelling) didn’t give up did he..

  7. Erik says:

    Sorry guys but…

Merida WAS offered a contract ages ago, look at the news, Arsenal have been trying to negotiate a deal with him since November 5th… which was shortly after Merida declared he wanted to sign a new contract in late October.

Guessing Arsenal didnt meet his demands, but without knowing what those demands were we cant say if Arsenal made the right decision or not.

For all we know he might have demanded high wages (for his experience) and to start most games? we simply don’t know, but is unfair to say that Arsenal waited for the 11th hour to bother offering him a contract when clearly this is not true.

  8. Erick says:

Rico Morning πŸ™‚ I hate when Aw say that he is adding 2 or 1 yet we know we need 3 quality players. Am tired of Aw.

  9. rico says:

Morning Erick, we just have to wait and see, sadly i think we will all be disapointed yet again….

Hi Erik, welcome to Avenell Road, i understand what you are saying, but why do we wait until the last minute to offer ‘improved conditions’ which is what has happened with Merida… After the dipper win he said he wanted to stay, what changed his mind??

  10. Erik says:

    No idea…

He changed his mind really quickly, perhaps the first contract offered was way off his demands but from what I’ve read it seems that Wenger had not heard anything after it was offered, so its like Merida’s agent kept quiet and didnt want to work something out.

Perhaps the last ditch contract did meet his demands but going to Madrid (even Atletico) is a very tempting offer for any Spanish player.

I have a Spanish background and I can completely understand why a Spanish player would prefer playing in Spain… and they are pretty much same reasons why Reyes left… weather, food, lifestyle, warm people…

Could be any of those factors, maybe him and his Ms (I am assuming he has one) decided they rather raise a family in Madrid?

It seems to me we should not bother signing Spanish players anymore, the promising ones go back to Spain as soon as they have a chance to… Reyes, Fabregas, Merida… and the really rubbish ones stay… Almunia… probably because in Spain Almunia would be selling fruit on the motorway.

  11. rico says:

Erik, I am all English but would prefer to be in Spain, it makes me wonder why the players come to the UK so early in their career, especially when they are talented and could earn a great wage in their home country…

    πŸ˜† re Almunia

  12. rico says:

He’d probably drop more fruit than he sold πŸ˜‰

  13. Erick says:

Rico if he doesn’t get a keeper that does it for me the midfield that i can stand but the defence it needs real work. Rico has Aw said anything abt Cesc

  14. rico says:

Erick, I read yesterday somewhere that wenger was due in madrid but he didn’t make it as he was too busy dealing with transfers… don’t know if that holds any truth, but we do know he is here in the uk….

i think even wenger must know by now we need a keeper, if he doesn’t he has really lost the plot..

  15. A DISGRUNTLED GUNNER says:

Its the same wenger, c gander. The change in wenger is due to arsenal getting rid of david dein. Since his depature the transfer policy has gone awol.
David dein played a MAJOR part in tranfers and contract negotiatons. This Hill-wood guy aint even good enough to polish dein’s shoes. He puts profits and bonuses before sucsess. The thing i HATE about this new era arsenal is that they never admit when they are wrong, or they NEVER learn from their mistakes!!!
Also Arsenal never do things the easy way!! NEVER!
If i was wenger i would let go of merida, troare, silvestre, gallas, denilson, almunia and buy belhadj, gary cahill, melo, yohan gourcuff if cesc leaves, and sign david james for a year contract.

  16. Erick says:

Hope he aint playing us Rico we need 2 defenders and a keeper the minimum. Fran off to A.R is crap we should atleast get some money off him Aw claims he is doing his best to hold on to the youth I think otherwise he keeps contradicting himself

  17. Erik says:

yeah haha, god, he is so bad, arguably the worse keeper in the league…

Him and Sylvestre are the players I want gone… I think Fabianski still young, but should be 3rd choice now, Mannone was more reliable.

And apart from Mannone vs Fulham I honestly can’t remember the last time you can say a keeper won us a game…

  18. rico says:

Merida has been ‘allowed’ to run down his contract Erick, bad management imho

Chesney and Mannone ar better now than either Flapianski or Almunia will ever be Erik…

Welcome Disgruntled Gooner, I am not so sure on Dein anymore, you would have thought he would have had a word with his son about looking after Cesc if he still loved the club!

  19. K-TR7 says:

Morning.aw looked tired in chamakh presentation…at least a gunner was in the final;our groundsman laid the lovely turf at the Bernabeu…eto’o has won 6 trophies in two years!

  20. JonJon says:

Jose wont last two minutes at madrid.

He’ll probably clear up and win the lot but the madrid fans and president wont like winning every game 1-0..

  21. Erick says:

K-tr7 Aw being tired may be its a sign am ready Ktr7 i have never been this ready. He had to cut his holiday short poor man πŸ˜‰ Rico and Erik Al may be with us next season even if its as a number 2

  22. Erick says:

JJ Its been a while how are things? I like Jose some think he has an ego but i disagree he is a guy who says what he thinks yet works with his players at a personal level. Genuine concern about winning 1-0 they won’t like it

  23. JonJon says:

Merida is the perfect example of whats wrong with the Youth set up..

theres too many young players..and the age difference between the 1st team and the reserves is practically nothing..

the only way to keep them happy is to give them all ridiculous wages but the really good ones want to play football whilst the average ones are happy just to take the money

look at jack..luckily we got him tied down but he knows hes too good not to be playing..so he went on loan..

meridas got a chance to go back home and knows hes too good not to be playing..

  24. Russ says:

“What’s the difference between Cardiff, Blackpool and Arsenal”? Cardiff and Blackpool will sign more than ‘1 or 2 players’ this summer snd will strengthen positions where needed.

  25. K-TR7 says:

Morning jj how are you?mou and madrid are a match made in heaven.barca are signing the likes of villa and chasing fab(they don’t need him) because they are scared of mourinho!after the way they treat us year after year i would gladly cheer mou to break their dominance and maybe a trophyless season will bring them back down to earth so that they know winning trophies isn’t anyones right like xavi implied…

  26. JonJon says:

    hi erick..

ive been away all weekend on a stag do..i was just glad to get away from all the football for a bit..

  27. JonJon says:

    hi ktr.

good thanks mate..hows things with you..

mourinhos a hated figure but you got to admit the mans a genius.

  28. Erick says:

I did exactly that yesterday JJ and i know you will agree with me its great stuff πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ K-tr7 spot on just want Jose to humiliate Barca

  29. K-TR7 says:

I used to hate mou but not anymore.he bought milito from Genoa, lucio and pandev on free transfers and alas!he won the cl…he didn’t splash on stars but instilled discipline and unshakable winning mentality to inter.i admire him and hope aw took some notes on how to win the cl…madrid need that and he is going to give them that if they are to break barca’s dominance.get ready for a two team domination since 3rd placed valencia have lost their best player in villa and probably silva to valencia…FORZA MOURINHO!

  30. K-TR7 says:

    Correction:silva to madrid…

  31. Erick says:

K-tr7 Madrid said they wont be buying anyone until the board decides on the way forward. That translates to Mou will be calling the shots

  32. rico says:

Welcome Russ, you are probably right, don’t Blackpool get 90M for getting into the PL?

    Morning JJ and KTR7

  33. rico says:

Wasn’t Milito 30 when Mourinho bought him KTR7, and he paid 12-15M for him so they said last night! Our stupid/stubborn boss lets players go at that age…..

  34. K-TR7 says:

Erick-there will be a clearout at madrid and expect dms and defenders heading to the bernabeu.it will be interesting to see the clash of superegos:mou vs kaka&cr9!we all know kaka/cr9 don’t track back…its time for the sleeping giants to wake up…

  35. K-TR7 says:

Rico-its all about putting square pegs in square holes not round ones.id give anything for us to have organisation and discipline off the ball like inter.when inter scored first i knew the game was won,i wish i would have that comfort when we play…

  36. Erick says:

Kaka aint that bad k-tr7 Ronaldo is the one am concerned about. Rico Aw should change his philosophy or whatever he uses we need to win and win only history will say Inter won the Cl nothing about attacking football. K-tr7 Diara will be staying at madrid if mou makes it but sad he’s out of the Wc, Diaby will be playing DM ha ha ha Domenech will pay

  37. kc says:

How long do Arsenal fans put up with Hill-Wood’s version of a football club? Peter boy has turned this club into a money maker rather than a trophy winner. Oh and 30 million for Cesc is an insult if that’s what Barca offered. They just payed 37 mill for Villa. If we have to sell our captain who which the entire team has been built around at the ripe age of 24, then Barca can cough up 50 mill at least if they want they’re precious prodigal son back. Damn that’s a run on and on but I’m pissed at the rumor of 30 million offered for our one of a kind play-maker Cesc.

  38. K-TR7 says:

Erick kaka may seem like a good boy but he has a super ego too…the thing thats difficult to accept is that aw is the same man who assembled the invincibles and took us to the cl final…i hope the last five years have been a blip or his hands have been tied because we all know the man is a genius, even fergie said it…

  39. Erick says:

K-tr7 we know modern footballers are full of themselves but I find Kaka different lets see if Mou can do it R.M

  40. Erick says:

Kc 30mill is fine only if it come to London with Messi and he stays

  41. c gander says:

Rico I think its fair to suggest 1 more season of no money spent and no trophies then wenger will have to move upstairs, hes so intelligent i cant help but think he has some broad plan we dont know or can foresee .for example lay te foundations for the next manager like guradiola with youth and money in place ,step aside for years of dominance whilst he sits from the side watching with a sense of vindication. Then we would all applaud him for sure BUT thats just a wild theory. I must say thank you for your blogs throughout 09/10 you and geoff and pedro from le grove are the most in touch with reality. I hope i dont get abbused by ‘untold arsenal’ readers again they hate me on there because ‘I DARE QUESTION THE LORD WENGER’…….

  42. rico says:

I don’t understand why wenger has changed so much, he never used to put square pegs into anything other than square pegs – yes he used to have a few utility players like Grimandi, but now he has gone into overdrive….

Erick, thats what i say, 30M and Messi and you have a deal barca..

Just hope we don’t keep him against his will…

  43. rico says:

c gander, thats our pleasure – on here and le grove (where a few of us began) want us to get back to winning ways, arsene wenger is not untouchable, nor are the board, and things need to change – Sometimes I just wish some mega mega rich man would come in a buy us out. Not Usamnov or Stan though…

    Lord Wenger πŸ˜†

  44. K-TR7 says:

Chamakh signing to me shows we are going to play 2 uptop and a free role player in AA similar to hleb’s role in 07-08.maybe aw is considering combining the invincibles and the current blueprints…

  45. rico says:

Oh, and i don’t know about him moving usptairs, maybe he needs to pack his bags if he won’t change things…

  46. agirlagunner says:

    hello, all.

    catching up on the comments…

  47. Erick says:

Rico that’s what i like about Chamaka he want to be with us. Whats the point of having Messi or Ronaldo yet they don’t want to be here to me seems Cesc doesn’t want in get the Cash and invest asap

  48. rico says:

KTR7, that excites me as much as watching paint dry, has AA got the engine or vision to play that role? Hleb could hold the ball up, I can’t see AA doing that..

  49. rico says:

Erick, don’t tell the board to take the money and invest, they will think you mean in the bank, rather than in players πŸ˜‰

Chamakh has to say that though, didn’t Lardy once say that when he signed… I am glad we have got him though, he is a plan b up front, yes he needs to improve, but if he he really is being honest, i think it won’t take him long to prove any doubters wrong, fingers crossed…

  50. Erick says:

Hallo Agag πŸ™‚ Lord Aw πŸ˜‰ nice one

  51. rico says:

What do people think of the Theo/Melo swap story doing the rounds??

I know a man who I think would jump at that deal πŸ™‚

  52. K-TR7 says:

Rico if you watched the euros08 and zenit’s run to uefa cup final you would know he is dynamite!he was praised by zidane, casillas…if cesc leaves he can become the ‘big dog’ as he was at zenit.he would offer us there much more than cesc can.he should be fully adjusted now and maybe a few tweaks in preseason to define his role and when he leaves wilshere can take over without needing to rebuild…i’ll wait to see how aw acts in the window rico before predicting aw’s plans for the season…

  53. K-TR7 says:

    Morning AGAG…

  54. rico says:

From The Sunday Times May 23, 2010

Nigerian billionaire enters battle for ArsenalBen One of Africa’s richest men is plotting to buy a stake in Arsenal in a move that could trigger a full-blown takeover battle for the Premier League football club.

Aliko Dangote, a billionaire Nigerian industrialist, is in talks to buy the 16% stake being sold by Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith, the club’s fourth-largest shareholder. Dangote is understood to have registered his interest in buying the holding with Blackstone, the American finance house that has been given the job of finding a buyer for the shares.

  55. rico says:

But is AA 2010 the same as AA 2008 ktr7??

  56. agirlagunner says:

Our club’s silence on the Cesc to Barca transfer is deafening. Last week, I would have been worried, now I am just resigned to the fact that Cesc really just wants away.

The Chamakh purchase was ENTIRELY expected, but exciting noetheless. I hope he has as good a debut season with our club as TV5. Erick, I agree that he really does seem to want to be with us.

Rico, you know I am not Theo’s biggest fan, but I value people who value our club, so I hope he stays put. Next season may just be the Theo promise coming to fruition.

  57. rico says:

AGAG, I don’t want Theo out the door just yet either, i want him to pull his socks up and sort his game out….

  58. Erick says:

Rico i make the correction investment in world class players and each penny of it. Chamaka coming for free just shows he is ready to fight

  59. rico says:

πŸ˜† Erick, i knew what you meant…. it seems like ages until we get to the 1st June, then we will see what Wenger is made of…

  60. agirlagunner says:

All players who underperformed last season need to sort their game out, rico.

Where is AW intending to play Bendy though, one wonders.

    Hello, KTR-7!

  61. rico says:

Too true, don’t get me started on some….

I think chamakh will be on the bench to start with so nik up top with robin. unless of course he has a storming pre-season…

also, we have to hope that nik and robin don’t get injured at the WC

  62. agirlagunner says:

I’m always worried about Robin getting injured, rico. And he gets crocked in the most meaningless games too. This WC will be an ordeal for me, to be honest.

  63. rico says:

I understand why you have concerns, join the club, robin is one of my fav’s at the club and he just adds something special to our attack – i almost wish holland get knocked out in the groups, but then i want them to win it too ….

  64. W.A.T.H says:

    Greetings all……….

How’s ur back AGAG how’s those puppies Rico not burnt I hope πŸ˜‰

Lets just say all thi transfer rubbish drives me to booze…! I have even got Erick on it too.

As i have said all along I have my doubts but will only pass judgement on AW when the season stars relating to who he has gone and bought…!.

  65. rico says:

Afternoon WATH, you are so naughty!!

Do we have to wait until the 1st June to buy?? Unles they are on a free of course

  66. Erick says:

Wath you Sailor wrong company to keep πŸ˜‰ Am still doing the milkshake + GG thing hope I quit once the season start. Rico its tough that Aw makes us wait until june 1 crap

  67. rico says:

Its not his choice Erick, it the transfer window rules 😦 Cant blame wenger for this one, even though we can try πŸ˜‰

  68. Erick says:

Rico when Aw was asked about the Cesc story he said ‘the chairman told you the story’ please do some analysis for me πŸ™‚

  69. agirlagunner says:

Congrats on the GG-laced shakies, Erick. When did Wenger say that?

  70. Erick says:

Thanks Agag am trying to quit πŸ™‚ It was on friday but i don’t have any evidence so don’t quote me πŸ˜‰

  71. rico says:

Ha ha Erick, I can only assume it’s ‘we have had no offer from barca and we dont want to sell cesc’

that ballague chap says that barca have offered 30M and arsenal have said ‘naff off’ πŸ˜‰ he also says he cant see any deal being done before the WC

  72. agirlagunner says:

rico, RvP is my third favorite player in our squad; and I’m known to be in a snit for days on end right after he gets injured. (frequently happens)

    Wenger speaks in riddles. 😦

Unlike certain captains under long-term contracts (ours, unfortunately), there’s no turning back from GG, Erick!

I just wish all this talk were officially over. As much as I adore Cesc, I don’t want no want-aways.

    Hello, WATH.

  73. agirlagunner says:

Thanks for the link, Erick. I am off now. Good night, all.

  74. rico says:

    Night AGAG…

  75. Erick says:

The link is courtesy of RSD he posted it on twitter. Cheers agag do take care

  76. rico says:

    twitter Erick, what’s that πŸ˜‰

  77. W.A.T.H says:

    Nite AGAG sweet GG dreams…..

Erick…. the GG milkshakes will continue for a while I reckon mate…!.

    Me naughty Rico…. u love it πŸ˜‰

  78. rico says:

Nothing like a bit of banter, helps the boredom of the moment pass, and boy, all this cesc stuff is so very boring…

would you sell him wath, for 50M + i mean

  79. Erick says:

I would Rico he is a great player nice guy but no worth all the trouble and stress. Hope i get another chance like yesterday to get my mind off all the stuff

  80. Erick says:

Rico i know you and Facebook and twitter are jargons to you πŸ˜‰ but I will lend you my dictionary πŸ™‚

  81. K-TR7 says:

Aw has confirmed chamakh will play central and not wide with his back to goal to the cbs.well…2 upfront i say…

  82. rico says:

πŸ˜† Erick, i would too, we could get five new players the way that wenger spends his money…

KTR7, I’ll believe wenger when i see chamakh up top, until then i expect to see him in goal πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  83. Erick says:

Where did you get that from K-tr7

  84. Erick says:

Rico i wish you were Aw’s assistance we would do the treble next season πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  85. Erick says:

Newcastle and Bolton are eyeing Jack what is Aw eyeing not on loan but i regard to some first team footie

  86. rico says:

I wish i was too Erick, i would pass on all our views and tell him to grow some πŸ™‚

  87. rico says:

‘back to goal’ – hope he’s good at sissor kicks πŸ˜‰

  88. rico says:

I think it’s about time Wilshere played in the first team Erick, not every game, and not start every game, but i keep saying, bolton are a PL side, he has got used to the tough games and shone…. he needs to get used to being part of ‘us’…

  89. K-TR7 says:

Rico when was the last time we scored from one of those…

  90. rico says:

    1856 KTR7 πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  91. K-TR7 says:

Inter counterattacks were beautiful to watch…reminded me of how the best aw teams did it…

  92. rico says:

I’m done for the day folks, stay safe and cath up tomorrow

    nighty night

  93. Tony Attwood says:

C Gander – I am sorry that you feel that you have been abused by readers on Untold Arsenal.

I think the problem is that the computer from which you post your emails is also used by another person who posts about Arsenal, and who recently started one post by saying, “TONY YOU SEEM TO ME LIKE SOMEONE WHO REALLY IS OUTSIDE REALITY, YOUR A TRUE MEMBER OF THE AKB BRAINWASHED BY WENGER.” (his caps not mine)

Your own posts in your own name from that computer were not, as far as I can see, subject to any abuse from anyone, but when someone starts a post like the above, it is not surprising that there was something of a robust response from readers of a site that openly advertises itself as being pro-Wenger.

My apologies to the owners of this site – I am not trying to poach your ground, or interfere with your posts, and I hope you don’t mind just one note from me
    Tony
