Deja vu with M’bia? Time to let him go…

According to reports, Arsene Wenger has Stephane M’bia at the top of his lists of targets…

‘The 24 year-old Cameroon international has just helped Marseille to their first league title since 1992, having moved from Rennes last summer, where he began his career.

Mbia is considered to be one of the best midfielders in France. At 6ft 2in, he is a powerful presence in midfield, but is also a good technical player who is comfortable going forward – He has been likened by some to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.’

Not sure about as good as Patrick Vieira, he sounds a bit more like Diaby to me πŸ˜‰ David Moyes wanted him last summer though so maybe he is a bit better than Diaby! We know Moyes is a good coach and currently has a pretty good midfield so if he thinks M’bia could add something to his squad then he could sure add something to ours!

I’m sick of reading about the Cesc story every morning, maybe the club need to be sensible now. Either come out and say that the player is not for sale at any cost and stand by their word or get on and set Barca the right price and let the lad go. With the money we could get good/great players and as much as we would miss Cesc, maybe we would be stronger without him.

When Cesc is on the pitch every player looks to see where he is, they always look to see if he can take a pass and that’s because Cesc can turn nothing into something, especially around the penalty area. Maybe though this in turn has started to inhibit other players self belief, a bit like when Henry was playing. Players relied too much on Henry, maybe they are doing the same with Cesc.

We need to get back to being a great squad, full of players who will roll up their sleeves and put in a hard days work, not players who will sit back and watch others around them perform wonders, that’s exactly what Cesc can do. I know it’s been said before but Cesc won’t get into the first team every week at Barca, how can he when you see the players that Barcelona already have. He wants to play football, we’ve seen that with our own eyes but at Barca I see him playing a ‘bit part’ for a season or two which would be sad, but wouldn’t be our worry anymore! Added to that, do we really want a player to be with us knowing he doesn’t want to be?

So really, we are in a win win situation with Cesc, either we get him for another season as he has four years (someone reported five yesterday) left on his contract, or we have a pot of gold to spend to bolster our fragile squad.

Why not start with a player like M’bia, as long as the ACON gets moved to the summer, that’s the defensive side of our midfield sorted. We have Lansbury, Ramsey and Little Jack who can fill the hole left by Cesc, or Arsene can go out and spend money on a great creative midfielder. Put the rest with what he already has and he can then sure up our weak defensive unit.

Just maybe, if Cesc goes we will become stronger – strange as I find that to write, but I think we will…..

    Morning all

  2. arsenalgooner says:

Its all gettin abit borin now.

  3. rico says:

Morning ag, it is boring, i’m sick of reading about it, sick of writing about it, cesc is the only thing in the news about arsenal hence its time the club sorted this once and for all imho

  4. charybdis1966 says:

Morning Rico – take in a midfielder called β€œStephanie”? What a big girls blouse! But seriously for some reason I thought he was 5’7” or something so at least we are considering some non-midgets for midfield for a change. However I’m in favour of de-africanising our squad as we really do suffer around ACoN time and if he was to form a partnership with Song we’d have two big holes in the centre of our defence in the middle of the season – this assumes they keep playing the ACoN when they are currently.
Finally, I thought it was β€œDΓ©jΓ  vu”? Vue’s that chain of cinemas I thought. πŸ™‚

  5. Mike says:

Which ever way you cut it if he goes we will be weaker! He’s world class, IMO 1. tell him you can’t go 2. Buy big to back up his talent that we he will hopefully be confident that we can push for major trophies again.

BARCA ARE tossers ! they are dragging it out to try and get him on the cheap I hope if he does go that we at least dig in for Β£50mil

  6. rico says:

Morning chary πŸ˜† re the spellings, just checking you were reading πŸ™‚

Have read that the ACON is moving to the summer months, so our problem could very well be over with the african players

  7. rico says:

Hi Mike, 80M was mentioned yesterday, which should keep barca away..

do we really want a player who we know doesn’t want to be with us?

i wish cesc would speak through the club website and tell us the truth…

  8. charybdis1966 says:

Yes Rico – I’m the pedant who notices these sorts of things, however I’m told I write with plenty of split infinitives, the only trouble is I can’t spot one.
IF the ACoN is definitely moving away from the mid season slot then it won’t be a problem, but till then I’d steer clear of Africans, especially with the 25 player rule coming into effect next season.

  9. charybdis1966 says:

Regarding the Cesc question I saw an e mail response someone had written up on another blog where the press department of AFC said that Cesc was on a long term contract and was very much part of the clubs future plans.
Also they said it was not their policy to comment on unfounded media speculation.

  10. rico says:

Chary, thats a kop out by the club – the likes of paddy, henry and others were tied to a contract and part of the future, didn’t stop them leaving…

  11. rico says:

    M’bia is 6′ 2.5″ chary πŸ˜‰

  12. charybdis1966 says:

Well it’s a bit non-committal for them to say that but some people will read into whatever they say how they want to.
I may have been thinking of another girly sounding African player being 5’7” – Modesty Blaise Matuidi.

  13. rico says:

i guess so, i guess this will go on longer than ‘who killed Archie’ in Eastenders πŸ˜‰ Gets pretty boring though, may have to do a Raddy and go away for the transfer window, no internet/no television…. πŸ™‚

  14. charybdis1966 says:

More like who killed JR, eh Rico? πŸ˜‰

  15. rico says:

That did go on and on ….

  16. charybdis1966 says:

Whoever thought it would have been Kristen? Or is that Kristen Mpotou, our new 5’4” midfield dynamo?

  17. rico says:

I thought it was Sue Ellen πŸ˜‰

  18. Steven says:

Just maybe, just very well, may be…

  19. charybdis1966 says:

Oh no, that’s what they wanted you to think, but the shooting happened during one of her(Sue Ellen’s) drunken blackouts so she couldn’t remember.
I thought it was Cliff Barnes at the time. Even Lucy (Juicy) (St)Ewing was pointed as a supsect for a while.
Crikey, I didn’t get to go out much in the late 1970’s!

  20. rico says:

i was jesting chary, it was Pams sister, the one with the evil look in her eye, i loved dallas, and then i got hooked on dynasty, sad that blake died not long ago 😦

  21. rico says:

Morning Steven, just what? become stronger?

  22. zhenyu says:

I believe CESC really wants to go,though I hope he stays.. But if Wenger failed to persuade him to stay, don’t sell him immediately.. Drag the transfer saga cos I think Real Madrid might be a possible third party and Arsenal could inflat the price.. Budgetlona thought they can get our players for cheap 4ever. In fact they should laugh when Henry was sold to them for 16m years back.. Juz wondering y they can unsettle players publicly??

  23. charybdis1966 says:

I’ve just looked it up Rico, Kristin was Sue Ellen’s sister, and not Pam’s as I thought – she was played by Mary Crosby – quite a β€œbee-yatch” as you would say in the modern vernacular.
I’m going off at a tangent aren’t I? I suppose it takes my mind off the Cesc question, though.

  24. rico says:

i’d have put money on her being pam’s sister, but yes, anything is better that the cesc saga 😦

Hi zhenyu, welcome to Avenell Road, i don’t think Cesc would go to Madrid and Madrid know that too – but i like the idea that if they came in with a ‘silly’ offer, we tell barca to match it or lose him πŸ™‚

  25. charybdis1966 says:

I like the idea of R Madrid getting Cesc eventually just to spite Barca for their constant tapping up of our skipper. It probably won’t happen but it would be incredibly funny, and it would be just deserts for Barca.
God how I hate that scummy lot now.

  26. rico says:

It would really cheese Cesc off to chary, we all know madrid and barca are like us v the spuds….

  27. charybdis1966 says:

Well if he wants to break his contract I believe we should do what’s best for us as a club, not as a vanity project for a single player. Of course, there’s no official confirmation he does want to break his contract, so till then he gets the benefit of the doubt.

  28. strutboy says:

I fundamentally disagree that we should let him go. I doubt Cesc Fabregas has demanded to leave on any level. What is more likely is that he has stated to Wenger his desire to play for Barcelona and that should they come knocking with an offer appropriate to the club, then he would like to be allowed to move on. The reason why he has said nothing publicly is because he will be more than happy to stay should this not materialise.
As it stands Barca have made no offer. And I presume Cesc accepts that it will take an awful lot more than Β£30m to prise him away. Given Barca’s financial difficulties, I doubt they will have the necessary cash to fund the deal. Thus I expect a statement before the World Cup saying that he will stay, is fully committed (honour to be captain etc.) and feels there is unfinished business. He will stress that he looks forward to working with exciting new signings Chamakh and X. It will be a stay of execution Henry and Ronaldo style. It will then be up to us to invest and win something, thereby persuading him his longterm future still rests at the Emirates.
Most importantly, if Arsenal have aspirations to be considered at the same level of Barca, Madrid, Man Utd, we must act like it and not be bullied about.
In terms of who we buy, I would like to see Arsenal muscle some other relatively big sides out of their best players. If we want somebody playing for a team not in the top three or four we should be able to unsettle them and sign them. We are Arsenal, and while we love our noble stance and stylish, old fahioned methods, the game has changed and so we must adapt to it to keep up.

  29. rico says:

I would sell him to the highest bidder too chary, in fact if cesc has really told the club he wants to go, i would play devils advocate and tell the world – as long as he goes abroad it matters not to us really…

maybe most of this though is paper/barca stiring up, just wish wenger/arsenal would release something concrete either way..

  30. K-TR7 says:

    Morning all…

  31. Mustang says:

Anyone know how we can get the paps to make up a story that R Madrid are ready to make a bid of Β£65m for Cesc? That would be interesting

  32. islington haye maker. says:

Thanks for that post about Celtic yesterday rico.
Wow,you really brought out the school kids on that one.:)

  33. rico says:

    Morning strutboy, mustang and ktr7

strutboy, that’s why we need the club/cesc to make some kind of statement, tell us the truth about this bloomin saga…

  34. rico says:

Mustang, go and edit Wikki, it wont take long πŸ™‚

Thanks islington, i was sad not to have been able to be around, thought it might have bought a few more out than it did though πŸ˜‰

  35. Erick says:

People are living in denial Cesc himself said he wanted his future sorted out that meaning one thing he wants to go back home period . Its not like he is in the end of his contract so the main points is he wants out.

  36. Erick says:

Pardon me Hallo to all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  37. rico says:

Morning Erick, i think you are right but why does the club not confirm or deny this. cesc has said for a few years now that oneday he wants to return home, right now we don’t know how much is old news and how much is in the now….

half of me thinks he just wants wenger to tell him who is coming in before he says ‘boss i want out and now’

  38. rico says:

Got to pop out for an hours, later all

  39. Erick says:

Rico all the Arsenal players that have been interviewed say they want additions to the squad except Nasir so Cesc does not want to hear that coz he has heard it for the last 5 years. He wants out and the main problem is if Barca want him and he stated that in his interview but Barca are in financial trouble and its least unlikely they will make 50mil.

  40. SD-London says:

FA cup final; Chelsea vs Portsmouth , Papa Bouba Diop had a nice game(defending) against Chelsea at least he was constantly at them to distract them enough to hit the frame work 5 times.

I think we could get him at a cheap and he is big and athletic enough. He could be a good addition for back up-we need as many players as we can get.

  41. Erick says:

Rico Hill-wood has spoken on the issue seems there is no contact from Barca Check out Goal.com for more info

  42. K-TR7 says:

@erick am tired of this whole saga…they should let us know if he is staying or going ASAP!

  43. Erick says:

K-tr7 what a summer but whatever happens we should not continue to build the team around him or else we will be relegated we need to be smart even if he stays. I like Fab but his heart is not with Arsenal.

  44. SD-London says:

The Cesc situation will be distracting Wenger’s preparations for next season. We are probably missing out on pontential buys right now.

We should sell him for Β£30million plus another player simples!

  45. GMR says:

Rico – they have just recently taken the decision about the African cup of nations, not only are they not moving it to summer, they have decided to make it on odd numbered years after 2012. It has been confirmed that there will be a tournament in 2012 & then 2013, which for clubs with african players will be ridiculous.

  46. rico says:

    Afternoon all,

Erick, PHW comes out with a load of tosh sometimes, i hope we soon hear from Arsene..

GMR, that is good news for us about the ACON long term, lets go get M’bia I say..

SD, agree, 30M and Messi πŸ™‚

  47. W.A.T.H says:

Afternoon………… Is anything happening in the world of football or must we just carry on drinking..?

  48. SD-London says:

Nothing is happening WATH, go on drinking mate.

  49. W.A.T.H says:

Thanx SD just what I needed to hear………… πŸ™‚
Hmmmmmm GG or whiskey……… decisions decisions..!

  50. Erick says:

Sailor πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ nothings cooking in the football world I would suggest you try milkshake πŸ˜‰

  51. Erick says:

Rico but PHW said he doesn’t know if Cesc is staying

  52. SD-London says:

I only see positives in Cesc’s departure or staying put at Arsenal(as the case may be).

If he leaves, then Wenger will have to strengthen the team with decent signings in numbers to compensate for the big hole Cesc will leave behind.

Then if Cesc stays then it will be a wake up call for Wenger that if he doesn’t strengthen his squad with quality players, then Arsenal will keep loosing their top players every season.

  53. W.A.T.H says:

    Erick……….. Milkshake is 4 girls………. πŸ˜‰

  54. rico says:

hi wath, long time, all good in the non footballing world ?

  55. W.A.T.H says:

Thing is though SD does Wenger see out of his rose tinted plasses that he still thinks Diaby and Denilson are good enough… Until he admits to who actually is and who isn’t good enough for the club we will get nowhere and our best players will want to leave.

  56. W.A.T.H says:

Yep all pretty good Rico………. U must of missed me terribly πŸ˜‰

  57. rico says:

May i suggest Scrumpy WATH πŸ™‚

  58. rico says:

You are spot on there, i thought you had left us 😦

  59. W.A.T.H says:

You should know better than that Rico……… I know Erick has been devastated………. lol

  60. rico says:

I see Wenger can find time to talk about tomorrows game, but ot all whats going on at arsenal…

  61. W.A.T.H says:

Not sure about the Scrumpy though Rico I far prefer the finer lines of alcoholic beverages…! πŸ˜‰

  62. W.A.T.H says:

Why what’s going on at Arsenal Rico……???????? Season’s over nothing’s going on πŸ™‚

  63. K-TR7 says:

Hi wath…xavi is quite cocky to say we don’t compete;barca are quite good but the way they behave sometimes is a disgrace!…on the other hand:villa, ibra, messi, xavi, iniesta, toure, alves, pique, puyol…it makes me so jealous;AW what are you doing?

  64. rico says:

Me too, i would rather Erick’s milkshakes than scrumpy πŸ˜‰

Why can’t wenger just come out and tell us cesc wants to go and we will sell him for the right price – 80M

  65. Erick says:

Wath girls LoL thats a diss i take it but am a man you need prove πŸ˜‰ Rico got a substitute for you me πŸ™‚

  66. SD-London says:

I think Barcelona just respond to the fans , why need Cesc, i dont understand .

They wanted Henry , they got him , he only gave them one good season and that was it.

They wanted Eto out , they got their wish plus a grumpy striker (Ibrahi..) and Eto came back to hunt them.(Who sells Eto?).

Do they really need Villa ?(i don’t think so)
Β£420million in debt and still talking Cesc Fab.. i don’t get them.

They have fantastic players with a wonderful reserve still they are obsessed with high profile signings.
I cant wait for Morinho to take over at Real Madrid , he will definitely put a stop to their reign in La Liga and that will just send them panicing.

  67. rico says:

ktr7, wenger is doing nothing, same old same old sadly, and he said our new players would be in early…

but hang on, has the window opened yet πŸ˜‰

Erick, i love shakies, the smooth fruity ones, bannana and coconut milk based, ahhhhhhhhhh πŸ™‚

  68. rico says:

SD, it seems they do what the chavs do here, just pay mega bucks for players to stop any other club from getting them, cesc is bloody mad in my view to even think about going there – yet..

  69. W.A.T.H says:

K-TR7 Barca are like a disease……… all the media bullshit and crap surrounds them and what do eufa do about them and RM tapping up players year after year… nothing…! gutless pricks.

Just shows our ambition that Wenger ain’t in the papers talking up the kind of players we gonna be buying and to do that he doesnt need to name names….!

  70. Erick says:

They don’t need Cesc they are just obsessed with stars Cesc will make a big mistake if he goes

  71. rico says:

That annoys me no end WATH, when are Arsenal going to report them?

I think every Barca player has now made a comment about cesc signing for barca, yes it may not be directly from the club, but of course they are making their comments on behalf of the club….

  72. rico says:

You guys heard that Juve want Theo πŸ™‚

  73. K-TR7 says:

Barca’s mf:xavi, iniesta, toure, keita, sergio B,jeffren.i don’t get it why do they need cesc?for all the talk of their academy bojan and pedro are going to suffer due to villa’s arrival.since they won the sextuple they have become arrogant and thats why footy neutrals rejoiced when mou knocked them out.if cesc goes we will have to look at juve in 01 who sold zidane to madrid and bought nedved, thuram and buffon leading them to two straight scudettos and a cl final appearance vs milan where they lost.they had even extra cash to bribe the officials…i just hope this saga doesn’t drag on till august…

  74. W.A.T.H says:

If Juve buy Theo, JJ will be doing cartwheels….!

  75. rico says:

And the man at the top of the page WATH πŸ™‚

I will be very sad though πŸ˜‰

  76. rico says:

KTR7, it has been suggested that cesc wants it done and dusted by the start of the WC, otherwise he will remain an Arsenal player…

  77. rico says:

I’m quite surprised that Ayling has been sold, I thought he was one tipped for great things with us…

  78. rico says:

The Mancs are after Iniesta, interesting one..

  79. K-TR7 says:

Iniesta to the mancs?are you joking…who would leave barcelona for manchester?…im sure laporta must have cracked his ribs!

  80. rico says:

no honest KTR7, its in the rumours, 20M

  81. K-TR7 says:

@rico It seems cesc to barca isn’t selling the papers anymore…

  82. rico says:

good, i think we should ban it here too, until we here something concrete, a cesc embargo πŸ™‚

  83. rico says:

oops, here should be hear πŸ˜‰

  84. W.A.T.H says:

Hear here Rico beer beer……….. Ooops I mean GG πŸ˜‰

  85. K-TR7 says:

Get ready for controversy in the cl final;webb is the official ref…

  86. rico says:

    WATH πŸ˜†

Ok, I have officially signed up to the no speak about cesc campaign πŸ™‚

  87. K-TR7 says:

@rico i second that…is anyone else tired of old rednose complaining that they should be in the final and not bayern?if aw did it he is a whinger but its all good when rednose says it…

  88. rico says:

KTR7, why do you often start your comment with @ ??

  89. rico says:

Does anyone know if we are still owed money from Juve for the Paddy deal??

  90. rico says:

Chamakh kaka is a done deal, its on AFC.com πŸ™‚

  91. Erick says:

Heard it a while ago Rico thought it came from you Juve owing us money

  92. W.A.T.H says:

makes a change for dot com to break the news b4 others get in first…!

  93. Erick says:

Wath lets see what he is made of Chamaka that is but atleast we get distructed from the Cesc crap and wath’s GG

  94. rico says:

Thanks Erick, I thought that was the case, reports are floating around that Buffon may come to us to clear what they owe for Paddy…..

  95. rico says:

WATH, I’m in shock after they announced him, didn’t get a whiff of that one happening πŸ˜‰

  96. Erick says:

Hope we solve our back line asap Rico and clear the Cesc thing we need peace

  97. K-TR7 says:

I hate barca so much right now:xavi insulted our club today you would have thought we were a lower pub team.barca pretend to be holy but we see how puyol, iniesta, xavi, pique…tap up cesc while platinh and co do nothing about it.i don’t want spain to win the wc now id rather any of the other 31 teams win it…hope we improve our team and eliminate them from the cl next year!they think they have the divine right to sign cesc even though they really don’t need him.i think they are scared of hearing of another team playing beautiful football and they decide to unsettle the centrepiece of our orchestra.id rather madrid who never pretend, they are scum from the start and don’t hide it…

  98. Erick says:

K-tr7 hope they don’t win a single game in the Wc i hate then so much right now that i don’t want see and hear anything abt them RUBBISH

  99. K-TR7 says:

Erick-how can being in the title race till midapril and cl qfs, semis and final in the last four years not being competitive?xavi had my respect but not anymore.madrid are ahead of them by 10+titles and 6 more cls anyway.we are the third most successful team in england and thats no way to speak of us.every team gets its golden generation so enjoy it while it lasts…

  100. K-TR7 says:

At least someone wants to play for us…welcome chamakh…

  101. Erick says:

Welcome African boy slap the double D boys and tell them to put their act together

  102. rico says:

He’s certainly saying the right things…

Erick, I think he needs to slap the DD boys and go help them pack their bags πŸ™‚

  103. rico says:

I’m done for the day fine people, can’t wait to break the news in the mornings post πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    Be safe all

    Night night πŸ™‚
