Great Spirit!! Which game was that then boss??

“When you’re as close to a trophy and you don’t do it, it’s disappointing but overall if you look back over the season, I am proud of our attitude and spirit.

“Unfortunately we got injuries in the final sprint of the season and it was a bit too much.

“This season has shown that we have quality, spirit and we have also discovered players who have made massive improvements so there is a very strong basis to do extremely well.

“Not a lot is needed when you come as close as we did this year having lost the big games. I think we have a massive chance to come back and win it. Let’s be consistent, come back next year and be even stronger.”

That’s how Wenger has summed up our season….

Eleven points Arsene, not one, two or three, eleven points behind the league winners is how we finished and you say we showed great spirit and attitude…

What utter garbage, where was the spirit and attitude at Wigan and Sunderland, Blackburn, Stoke and Citeh, not to mention down the road at the swampies ground?? What about the home games against the Chavs and Mancs?

Great spirit and attitude doesn’t get us rolled over on our own turf so very easily does it?? In the games against those who finished above us we were poor, very poor, in fact rather than show spirit we were more like a ghost the way they brushed through our defence!! I mean the whole defensive unit within that comment…

I don’t often expect us to go to Old Trafford and win, nor do I expect a win at Stamford Bridge, but surely we expect the team to give its all and compete, don’t we??

Well we didn’t!!

So, if Arsene Wenger thinks just one defender will solve our defensive problems then he really has gone off the boil… I just hope and pray its mind games to keep the vultures away from his two defensive targets, somehow though I think he is truthing…

If that’s the case, we are in for the same kind of season ahead, albeit it could get worse. Sure as heck those around us will spend and if we aren’t careful, we will be left well behind!!

One defender is far from enough Arsene Wenger….. Far from enough!!

We need two defenders, a good/great goal keeper and another Alex Song… Add them to Chamakh and we may just win something next season!!

Talking of Alex Song, here is a player who has been our rock in midfield alongside Captain Creative, but still he isn’t happy. Song now wants to start scoring goals – now there’s a man who isn’t prepared to sit back on his laurels…….

Finally, well done to the ladies, they finished their season off in style with a 3-0 win at home, maybe Wenger should draft a few into the first team 🙂

Have a good day all….

    Morning peeps…

  2. Mustang says:

    Morning Rico,

what is AW on about? This geezer winds me up. What we need is bottle and stomach for a scrap against the so called physical teams and not butt slapping and high fives.

Gallas was slated when he said this team is not brave enough to win the league but he is right. We need to bring in, not one but 3 or 4 no nonsense big strong players to give us that grit we so desperately lack.

Forget the bromance give me a good fight any day.

By the way Kim Little finishes better than some of the first team strikers.

  3. rico says:

Morning Mustang, he gripes me too, spirit and attitude get you wins at OT and Citeh, not a home draw against West Ham…

  4. rico says:

Rachael Yankey is a bit good to, we need a winger 😉

  5. Andrew says:

Well maybe you forgot the stoke game
    the hull game
    the standard liege game
we have been the come back kings this year and that’s show fight and spirit that this team did not have.
and coming back for dead twice in one season is no small feat

are you so stupid to think that they didnt give it their all you could see they tried but the injuries never relented and after the Birmingham fiasco and Totthenham game they gave up
Every player had fought to their teeth till then but when there was no chance of winning the league they gave which was wrong thing to do but when there’s nothing to fight for and you had come that close and not won it
its reasonable to feel down and uninterested.

  6. Wade says:

The belief and spirit was there…dont be blind to turn a blind eye on our performance against Stoke away when Ramsey broke his leg.
Or the Wolves game at home with the last minute winner. We have scored more goals in the last 10 minutes than any other team this season. How can you say the belief wasnt there.
Its the players we were missing. You cant just expect us to continue winning when the core of the team is gone…Gallas Song Fabregas Arshavin Van Persie.
Any team missing players of those calibre wouldv suffered.
Yes we need depth in the squad, but dont say the belief wasnt there, ofcourse it was. Watch the Stoke City away game again!

  7. rico says:

Morning Andrew, i am not stupid, but thank you for asking…

    hull, stoke and standard liege…. mme…… !!

Professional sports people never give up….

  8. rico says:

Morning Wade, i agree with the bit you wrote needing depth and strength, and yes the Stoke game, what about the away game at Citeh, the home game against west ham, the home game against Burnley…….

  9. rico says:

Home games against Villa and Everton…. add up the points dropped – where would we have finished then…

  10. goonergav says:

    Spirit

    Standard Liege – 2 nil down – won 3-2
Liverpool away – 1 nil down playing awful – won 2-1
Overturning first leg v porto to win 5 nil
FA CUP V West Ham 1 nil down – won 2-1
and in the league at home winning with 10 men
Stoke away in the league nuff said

Any number of late goals to win games

Bouncing back from crushing defeats to genuinely challenge for the title up until the game vs scum

The Tottenham game knocked the stuffing out of them.. Admittedly the final performances of the season were not acceptable but no team has suffered the injuries we have.

What do you want Wenger to say… “I’m s*it, the teams s*it, lets give up and not bother about next season”

If more Arsenal fans got behind their team they might give a damn about playing for us.

  11. rico says:

hi goonergav, grit and attitude wins you the games that wins you trophies, away at wigan, spuds and blackburn….. when we needed it, we didnt have it…

yes we had injuries, but we should have a squad to cope, we’re arsenal, not burnley….

  12. rico says:

According to the paps, Gallas is off and so is Cesc…. Another summer of the Cesc will he won’t he….

Reminds me of when Paddy was here, then Henry, and now Cesc…. Boring really..

  13. Jammathon says:

You won’t be satisfied unless we win every single game, won’t you?

  14. rico says:

    Hi Jammathon, i don’t mind a couple of draws thrown in… 😉

  15. charybdis1966 says:

Morning Rico, my take on the reason for the difference between the games we collapsed horribly and those we came back magnificently was that the late collapses were played without Cesc and we had no one to drag the team forward.
The Stoke and Hull away were games in which Cesc played a pivotal role in pulling the strings for us – as soon as the first goal went in from Wigan(away) I got the feeling the midfield were looking at each other wondering where the inspiration was going to come from.
Up until our late season collapse I didn’t think we were a one man team, like the Manks & shrek, but the way we became rudderless at Wigan and Blackburn makes me start questioning that.

  16. pete smith says:

how about away at Stoke when Rambo broke his leg?

and the last minute antics at Hull and against Wolves.

yes it fell apart after the birmingham draw a little bit, but there was difinitely spirit there this season.

  17. rico says:

    Morning Chary

that’s what hurts, we were given so many chances to take this league by the scruff of the neck, but like we saw a couple of seasons ago we just faded away when it mattered. How we lost at either the spuds or wigan, even blackburn is still beyond me.

Thats kind of what i mean about spirit and attitude, when it really matters we don’t have enough players with those two qualities…

  18. indian gooner says:

    hi rico,
i completely aagree with u on this. we need more personnel.not the denilsons, almunias and silvestres….i have supported them during the season when they were playing like s*it…now we need to sit back and think of all the deficiencies and just buy the right kind and number of ppl.also please thrown in a defence coach and gk coach( the current one is s*it)……oh…also, a team with real desire to win will not give up, men or no men.do u think the likes of bergy, keown, adams and henry would fold like the team that folded at mancity, against chelsea and manu?hell no…we need fighters who are not afraid of a hard day’s work.not pretty prima donnas who canter along when the rooneys and drogbas skin them….

  19. rico says:

hi pete, yes of course you are right about those games, but to win the league and other cups we need to be able to compete against those above us, why does it take a horrific injury to rambo to get us going?

  20. charybdis1966 says:

I tell you what Rico, what you said today has echoes of something I wrote on another blog last week – I don’t know if you saw that? I mentioned our possession to shots on target ratio and how it had fallen dramatically from the first 5 games of the season to the last 5 while the oppositions had doubled at the same time.
Reminds me of that saying “No guts, no glory”

  21. Griff says:

rico: We are not Burnley but we are not Chelsea either, meaning that when we do have 6 or 7 1st team players missing, we don’t have a 15-20 million world class replacement to come in from the bench.

The sooner some Gooners get in the real world, the better.

  22. Avash says:

Hi Rico, chokers is the word or overated? How many more seasons before its our turn? When will our captain be giving his victory speech?

  23. rico says:

I didn’t see it chary, I don’t ‘get about’ as much as i used to sadly 😦

What do you think the reason for that is, surely it can’t all be about Cesc’s absence.. It hurts being so close again then not having the winners to take us over the line…

No guts, no glory, think you have hit the nail on the head sadly..

  24. rico says:

Song missing has been a huge loss too, has Geoff warmed to him yet? 😉

  25. Steven says:

I’ve said elsewhere and will say it here again:Wenger will NEVER CHANGE!So set in his ways that the changes in the EPL have ‘confused’ him and he can’t respond to it as he should;there is that sense of illusion that these players can win something! You wish…!

If I was AW, I would deliberately go out and look for a world class goalkeeper with experience who commands his area well and keeps yelling and barking at his defenders. Our GKs don’t do this so often if at all; they get exposed by the defenders too often especially during set pieces.Imagine the Blackburn situation and Flappy staying so ‘gentle’ and ‘voiceless’ while being pushed around?

And with all his ‘suicide’ displays, how can neither Alcomedy and Flappy (or anyone else)not yell at Silvestre and tell him to do his job or join the Supporters’ Club? Why is no one angry with the flops on the pitch? That willingness to forget ‘politeness’ for minute and tell the fumblers to ‘sit up’ is for me, the real definition of ‘spirit’ and ‘attitude’. If I was in that team I’ll throw punches at the likes of Silvestre, Diaby and Denilson for some of their displays!Don’t worry, I’ll do it in the dressing room!If I’m not playing well, for the sake of the team, I expect my team mates, if they really love me and the club and don’t wish to see my career go down, to YELL and SCREAM at me!?Believe me, it works! We’ll continue to suffer as as a team until we find that vocal, no-nonsense leader in the defence and the midfield. How I wish either Song or TV would just step up and do this!

If I was Wenger, I’ll also go look for one very mean-looking, no-nonsense player with passion to win every match.Maybe Demichelis(Bayern).Imagine how he ‘took out’ Rooney!Class act!No card!It was a professionally ‘clean’ job! Think of the ‘beast of Inter’ called Lucio who ‘pocketed’ Drogba in TWO matches!Saw his reaction when he cleared a goal-bound shot off the line against Barca? That REACTION comes from the HEART of ONLY passionate, die-hard WINNERS!

We need a fiery character like Melo whose presence strikes fear into the opposition. With Song, Melo and Cesc, very few Shawcrosses/Taylors will be allowed to get away with ‘murder’.

Its exactly that FIERY, NO-NONSENSE, NEVER-SAY-DIE, WIN-AT-ALL-COSTS attitude that we lack.Vieira, Tony Adams, Campbell, etc, had that and so does Vermaelen. Unfortunately, he is going through a ‘change process’ which is common to all AW’s current crop except Arshavin;they’re being gradually ‘calmed down’ and turned into ‘perfect gentlemen’!

Nasri is the fiery type but is already becoming a quiet one. They come in and see the set-up and they decide to play along.Only AA has refused to blend in.We need someone other than Cesc who can terrorise opposition with his style of play, attitude and even tackles.Great if he’s big and imposing but his being vocal is a MUST!

  26. rico says:

Morning to those who have just come on, sorry, your first comment goes into moderation but will go straight up now…

Avash, I wonder how long too, unless we get a 2/3 fearless fighters, it could be a long wait..

  27. Apong says:

we would all want it. But its a pipe dream, lets face it we will probably buy kid and chamakh and if we are lucky a cut price shit like silvestre. Dont get your hopes up. A 6th trophyless season is a very probable proposition. Brace yourself for it.

  28. rico says:

    Hi indian gooner, top comment…

  29. rico says:

Griff, AW has proved in the past that he can get great players without paying the chavs kind of money – just look at Song, what he now needs to do is show us he still has it and stop buying players who will never put in a hard shift week in week out…

  30. rico says:

Hi Apong, but it shouldn’t be this way, why should accept it? If wenger can’t sort it out, then get a manager who will – but trust me, i dont really want that to happen, i want him to sort it out this summer….

  31. charybdis1966 says:

If you’re interested Rico it’s here : http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/2010/05/07/where-has-the-fight-gone/#comment-12359 although the table of stats gets lopped off.
As for the actual reason for the late lackadaisical attitude Rico, I’m guessing other factors are key players ambling around not particularly trying, I’m looking at you Diaby and Denilson, and a reluctance to do the boring, non-fancy parts of the game which some players don’t like – such as winning the ball back, pressing the opposition and tracking back.

  32. rico says:

I will take a peep chary, thanks..

Denilson & Diaby, together they dont make one decent player do they, how the latter has made it in the French squad I will never know…

  33. Andrew says:

    grit and attitude wins game
well we showed this week in and week out till the spurs game and your are ever ready to point out what our players did wrong this season
    WHAT ABOUT THE FANS?
FOR THE LAST TWO SEASON I HAVE BEEN ASHAMED WITH OUR BEHAVIOURS towards our players
how can an arsenal fan boo an arsenal player? how can you do it?
how do you expect a player to get better if his own fans boo him maybe that’s why players are leaving Arsenal. Why would they stick around with Arsenal where there own fans boo them

Last year it was Eboue and Song and this year its been Bendtner and Fabianski
I agree Fabianski has made some inexcuseable mistakes but he’s young and needs our support and the way fans reacted to his every touch in the fullham was to say the least deplorable

you say the players havent done enough I think the fan who come to those games or post articles like this havent done enough
Supporters SUPPORT so start supporting our players damit and then you can ask question about players spirit.

  34. Asmo says:

“If more Arsenal fans got behind the team then more of them would give a damn about playing for us.”

Ouch. Some of you have been called out good and proper right there.

The blissful irony of those that only disrupt their silence to moan and ironically jeer their own players calling for “spirit.”

Look closer to home lads. I see more Arsenal spirit from Cesc and the lads from those alongside me at the Grove.

  35. charybdis1966 says:

Rico, while Diaby shouldn’t be in the French squad I’m not surprised Nasri isn’t either – this is his 2nd full season here and he has shown only flashes of potential, about 3 games I reckon, Porto at home being one of them. Away from home Nasri is pretty much anonymous – do you remember him saying on Arse.com a while back he wanted to play himself into the French squad?
Well if he’d put more effort in at those grim, northern away fixtures he might have been going to South Africa.

  36. rico says:

chary, that was a great post you wrote, and incredible to think that so much seems to lay on the captains shoulders.

i also don’t understand why, when given their opportunity through injury, do the second string not think, ‘right boss, you won’t be wanting to drop me now, i’m taking my chance’ and play their hearts out. Sadly though, they don’t and appear if its just a 90 minute kick about in the park!

  37. rico says:

Andrew, the players get paid to do their job and do it well, silvestre, almunia, denilson, diaby, fabianski aren’t doing it – if they were on performance related pay, they would be broke!! 😉

  38. rico says:

Nasri and AA have blown hot and cold this season chary, but like you i am not surprised that Nasri has been left out, but i am when i see Diaby selected, if that makes sense….

  39. rico says:

Hi Asmo, good to see you here, you would have liked a previous post about jcl’s in the stands 😉

  40. Erick says:

Morning Rico top post Aw is loosing it and I don’t think he will be taking us to the promised land

  41. rico says:

Morning Erick, thanks, where’s spanner when you need him ? 😉 😉

  42. SD-London says:

What Wenger and probably anybody in the position of influence need to understand is that times are changing.
Arsenal is not competitive enough in the transfer and player’s salary market. Therefore clubs will always want to take our best players every season-Cesc,Clichy,Sagna,Van Persie.

Arsenal needs to drop that useless salary cap or else we will be loosing our best players every other season. Then we are not winning trophies.
Rico , it is not boring but worrying.

  43. Erick says:

Rico just continue mentioning Denilson he will show up 🙂 AA has been my greatest dissapointment this season no commitment no spirit and above all disinterested with whats happening and also talking alot of Crap. Steven top comment

  44. charybdis1966 says:

Thanks Rico – I have to admit I’m nowhere near as prolific as your good self; I’m an exceedingly lazy blogger ! My forte is occasional sarcastic remarks rather than daily posts to stimulate debate.
Looking at some of the comments above about us being bad supporters, I think we’re in danger of muddying the waters regarding why players get booed. For me, I can point to the reaction to Rico’s favourite player at the Burnley home game, namely Bendy.
He missed chance after chance BUT he still made himself available and never hid. When he was eventually subbed we rose as one to applaud him off as like him or not he always tries and never gives up. Do you think bad supporters would do that?
I don’t criticise players for lack of talent, only lack of application.

  45. K-TR7 says:

Morning rico.chary has made a good point re:possession.a truly beautiful handwriting comes from talent, disciplined practice and application of specific skills.a beautiful handwriting style is pointless if it mutates into a self-obsessed aesthetic display.inter revealed a threshold, upto a point, possession will win you games but beyond that point it ceases to be more taxing for team without the ball and starts to be for team with it.inter without the ball conserve energy contrary to barca who expended more energy on the ball.

  46. Erick says:

SD London Morning to you Guess dropping the salary gap is an issue close to Aw heart and it will only happen with another manage he has said it before he won’t do it which he call’s it balancing the books

  47. Erick says:

Chary and Nikky paid it off with a hatrick against porto. Why fans boo player is because they are proffessionals and must do the basic if not the best of what is required of them when players like Al, Flappy the Double D boy ( Diaby and Denilson) fail to give a simple pass Jogging back and your DM that purely means you can’t do the basic of your proffession. If your employed as a waiter and you can’t serve food you boss will boo you that means being sacked

  48. charybdis1966 says:

Exactly Erick – Bendy tried his heart out a few days later and it all happened for him against Porto. Even Rico would have applauded him that day !

  49. W.A.T.H says:

Morning all… Great post Rico I see you have aroused the rose tints this morning… Andrew obviously thinks he pays to watch the Arsenal and it’s his duty to make the players want to play…? Says it all when ppl have no idea about what these prima donna’s get paid for…!. Shame when you cant see all they need to do is put in EFFORT..! the plum has the cheek to call you stupid..? nuff said..!

  50. rico says:

Morning SD and KTR7, sorry, phone rang 😦

chary, me prolific – mme 😉

  51. rico says:

Morning WATH, thanks -rose tints not on my eyes though, only sunglasses 😉

  52. Andrew says:

Andrew, the players get paid to do their job and do it well, silvestre, almunia, denilson, diaby, fabianski aren’t doing it – if they were on performance related pay, they would be broke!!
We were talking about spirit right if it all a mtter of them playing for salaries then no player will go the extra mile for the club and with such a young squad they need to go the extra mile
A player will go the extra mile if he feels he’s loved the club and no player will feel that way if people like you cant support their own players.
Its people like you that have brought this club down Wenger you kids who have no idea of how much our club has progressed in the last decade
Any idea how many trophies we have won before wenger came in the last 20 years. Take a guess 2 PL titles that’s it
And he won us 3PL titles in 7 years with 4 runners up and 4 FA cups and 1-2 Shields

This win a title every year ambitions you have right now are because of wenger propelling this club into european elites and building this stadium was a part of that
You want to win trophies every year but what you dont realise is that before wenger came we were a good club but we were never the best and he brought this win a title every year mentality into our club but in those 20 years before wenger even though we were not winning trophies but the fans were still supporting so dont call yourself true fans
True fans support their club through adversities not judge a players commitments.
If you put half the energy you use in slaming or slandering our player into actually supporting them then you will see a very different Arsenal team out there

Go to arsenal.com and listen to what Gazidis has to say he very clearly tells you that we can’t compete with the likes of United, Chelsea or City in the transfer market front not because of the transfer fees but because of the salary these players command.
WE cant afford it simple as that not until we improe our commercial capability

  53. Erick says:

Chary the bottom line is EFFORT so we should support players who don’t show effort Andrew sad sad

  54. rico says:

ha ha chary, i did 🙂 and you are right, look at Eboue, he gives it his all most games now, its not his fault he isn’t as good as others…

unlike the Double the double D’s!!

The Double D boys Rico Crapppppppppppp

  59. rico says:

Andrew, you are obviously happy watching us win nothing for the last five years, I however am not – yes Wenger has done well, but maybe he has reached the end of what he can do….

  60. charybdis1966 says:

I see, I thought you were calling yourself “Madame” and “mme” was an abbreviation.
Talk about airs and graces, I thought !

  61. rico says:

Not a chance of that chary 😉

What do you think Nikki will make of the impending Chamakh arrival? I reckon it could be good for him, bit of a fight for places up front..

  62. Erick says:

What you make of Yaya Toure imagine Song Toure and Cesc in midfield not bad

  63. Jinxed says:

The team showed plenty of spirit, fight and determination this season. in fac, the amount of last second goals we scored, i was convinced we were destined to win the league!

Didnt happen, but that wasnt down to a lack of spirit.

i think alot of Gooners have allowed the last few games to cloud their judgment, or they just would rather have a bitch and moan, instead of taking the season as a whole.

We fucked up in the end, but it wasnt down to any lack of desire, spirit, effort.IMO.

  64. Erick says:

Rico Chamakaka is no saviour but a good team player with aerial ability Nikky must be saying I can do better 🙂 🙂

  65. charybdis1966 says:

A bit of competition for places will do us a world of good Rico – although I see Bendy and Numbnuts in slightly different roles. I always prefer it when a player knows that if his effort level drops there’s someone breathing down his neck for his starting place.
As for YaYa – NO. The ACofN will blight our chances mid season and I doubt he will come, it seems to me just to be agent talk. I’d far rather a player with Premier League experience than another player who needs an acclimatisation period.

  66. rico says:

Thats what i think too Ercik, but wenger must stop playing nik on the wing, he has the head and height…

  67. rico says:

We need that all over the pitch chary – denilson and diaby hardly offer a threat for someones place …

isn’t the acon moving to the summer? if so, yaya would do for me Erick 🙂

but chary is right i think, if we could get a player who already knows the epl it would be easier, sadly though they would cost a packet…

  69. rico says:

hi jinxed, what do you put it down to then, please lets not use injuries as a cop out …

  70. Erick says:

Chary Toure can play in five different position he is creative and defensive if we fail to get Melo I would go for him so that the Double D boys would have to ride or Die

  71. Erick says:

Jinx its not the first season we have failed when it matters so our judgement is based on previous experience and very sober

  72. Andrew says:

    @rico
Andrew, you are obviously happy watching us win nothing for the last five years, I however am not – yes Wenger has done well, but maybe he has reached the end of what he can do….
no arsenal fan can be happy we havent won anyting how can we be we havent won anything for five year but what I am trying to make you understand is that how common it was for us to go without a trophy for five year not a decade ago. I was there I saw it and fans were always optimistic they never booed players because they repected the jersey.

Do I want wenger to spend ofcourse I want wenger to spend but just because a manager wants to spend within his means it shouldnt make him a bad manager.
We had no money left when we bought this stadium none check our finanical records at the time.
and contrary to what reports in the media that wenger has moneny to spend but hasnt its not true.
Wenger was always given 20 million transfer fund in the last 4 years and in those 20 million he had to buy player and make sure his wages were covered.
YOu cant pay one world class player tansfer fees in that amount forget about his salaries which had to be within that 20 million to.
His hands have started to free after we build the highbury square and money started coming in and you can see he has started to buy Nasri, Arshavin, Vermaelen. Arshavin transfer and wages alone are over 35 million.

I am not trying to defend wenger but I am just letting you people know its not FM its real life. When we bought the stadium the expectation was that we will make a lot of money from the property sales but when after the financial debacle in recent time that hasnt happend
then Abrahmovic disaster. Wages are always the bigger fess not the transfer fess and when Abrahmovic pays players two times as much as other clubs then the wages skyrocket aswell and we are club with budget.
You can break the bank but tell me one club who has broken the bank in the past and can look forward to a good future.
Chelsea – there wage bill is primarly funded by Abrahmovic when he goes then chelsea wont be able to pay these players salaries and they will drop
UNited – they already owe 800 million and a lot of this is due to the glaziers but about 200 million in due to bad managment of resources
Liverpool – europa league and probably losing gerrad and torres in the summer due to financial problems

To sum up ofcourse I want Arsene to spend and he will we have now paid 130 million we owed in the higbury square our 180 million in now almost all a long term debt and will keep reducing as time goes but I dont expect us to sign Villa’s or Messi’s we will spend within our means
and we will win within our means just keep the faith and support this great club and the players who wear this clubs proud jersey

  73. charybdis1966 says:

Erick – who are double D boys? Are they fans of a lager from the 1970’s..”Double Diamond, works wonders, works wonders!”
Wenger has said himself that he feels he’ll be buying from the domestic market more for various reasons, e.g. the strong Euro, but I’d like to think that he realises we need Premier League experience. We have a surfeit of small, technically gifted flair players – we now need hard working, defensive, tough players for balance.

  74. rico says:

None of us are playing FM Andrew, not many of us expect 50M players to be bought either! Please don’t think you are the only one who has ‘been there’ over the years either. What is the point in comparing now to the 60’s 70’s 80’s???

Wenger came in and bought players like Henry, paddy, Petit, Overmars, Pires etc and we won…

Now we are having to suffer watching half hearted performances from players like denilson, diaby, silvestre etc…..

    we have gone backwards!!!

  75. rico says:

Diaby and Denilon chary, The Double D boys, they are very far away from doing what the lager did… or the advert suggested the lager did 😉

  76. SD-London says:

Talking about having spirit – Whenever Cesc and Song are not in the midfield Diaby just plays rubbish and misses passes upon passes and when misplaced passes continues for 15minutes you can actually see the playing spirit drained out of other palyers .We then have a bad day.

The palyers need some psychological help because something else definitely happened to them after the Birmingham draw , we just went down down and down until we lost to Wigan(it was too late then)

Cesc or no Cesc, Song or no Song , they had spirit in the most part of the season , they just lost it some how.You could almost touch it when we are loosing or haveing a bad day. They need help.

  77. W.A.T.H says:

I think we have been invaded by someone from the Arsenal press department…! Andrew if your not working for Arsenal you def should be you put more spin on what’s going on than they do…! Your making excuses for every simple problem that’s wrong with the club and the team…! Where does anyone say Wenger is a bad manager…? What people are saying is wenger is stubborn and his blind faith totally misplaced in players clearly not good enough and as for no money what crap how can you pay off a 25 year mortgage in 5 if you got no money…?!?!?!? Take off your blinkers you may be able to see a bit further and your points may be a little more valid than purely quoting what the club wants you to believe.

  78. Andrew says:

we are not going backwards we are going forwards he bought because he had the money to buy and that’s what I am trying tell you.
He will buy when he has the money to buy and he cant buy when we didnt have the money to buy

On Diaby and Denilson did you think Song wil make that kind of step up like he did this year. I didnt but that’s the think about young player it only takes one year for them to go from mediocre to world class
case in point SOng and Bendtner of arsenal
    fletcher and nani of united

Diaby has shown flashed of brilliance and I think he can become a great player he needs to become consistent and at all other elite clubs they are given time but with such a young squad and so many injuries he has played more games than most of our players and he has been inconsistent. Give him time

Denilson is 22 and played over a 100 games for us I think he needs to bulk up really and command the midfield like SOng has been doing this year but again at such a young age you cant really judge how good he will be
Oh and it was denilson who tried hitting the long shot when all else had failed in the hull game which led to us scoring.

This I why I will like to leave it to arsene
I dont see these players train week in and week out. I dont their true potential

On Silvestre I agree with – a manc joining us
I have even offered to drive him to the airport whenever he decides to leave

  79. Erick says:

Chary careful with mentioning beer we have regulars who will get thirsty 🙂 🙂 nothing to do with Larger its Diaby and Denilson one inconsistent the other ref’s cover more ground than him. Andrew we are not taking forgranted what Aw has done but we can’t have players that play rubbish week in week out that I won’t support yet we have young gunz Merida , Craig Wilshere who can do better and they don’t get a chance. I know we are don’t have a sugar daddy that will help us but we just need player with heart and desire they must not be necessarily expensive.

  80. rico says:

SD, I think Cesc and Song are one of the best midfield partnerships in the PL, if not the best. Cesc is clearly very confident alongside Song and it allows him to play with great freedom.

Diaby is like a headless chicken too often, he races forward at speed and forgets the idea is to pass to his own team before he is on the end of a tackle, then he loses the ball and fumbles back to try and defend… he just so annoys me….

  81. W.A.T.H says:

Seems your very easily pleased Andrew to quote one or two games with spirit and a couple of examples of a player doing a few good things……….. What about the whole season.. Fletcher world class are you mad..? Fletcher isn’t world class in a month of sundays but what the fella brings to the mancs is spirit and guts and balls…! Something most of ours lack…!.

  82. charybdis1966 says:

Erick “Craig” Wilshier – is this another gem I’ve not hear of?
However the point is we need players with heart and honest endeavour – we have enough flair already.
and as Wenger also said, we don’t need more potential and youth, he agreed we have plenty of that already.

  83. rico says:

Re Song Andrew, go hunt back through the archives, many of us had faith in Song, I hand on heart have always done so….

Re Denilson, how old is he now? How long have we been waiting for him to be good week in week out, oh, how old is Cesc???

If you are good enough, age is not an issue!!

As for Diaby showing flashes of brilliance, when i played sport i showed flashes of brilliance too, reality is though the rest of the time I was crap!!

  84. Erick says:

Wath aka GG What up top comment 🙂

  85. SD-London says:

Wao i do type long ones but Andrew types a lot man!
Andrew reduce it please or breake it somehow.

  86. Andrew says:

    @ WATCH
“how can you pay off a 25 year mortgage in 5 if you got no money…?!?!?!? ”
we didnt pay off the mortgage if you knew what happened then you wouldnt have made this kind of silly comment
what we paid was the debt we have had taken on building the highbury square something around 150 million which was paid primarly by selling the houses we bulld on the square. DID YOU KNOW THIS? I AM GUESSING YOU DIDNT

what arsenal and wenger did was taken down and higbury and build a complex in its image. Its beautifull have you seen it?
they could have so easily given it too a contractor and all that history would have gone in a second but they kept it and it will still be there in a 100 years if we survive that long

I maybe am being too protective of wenger and arsenal board but that’s probably because you guys are being too negative.

What players can you really bring in for 20 million a year and that includes his wages.
You will be lucky to buy someone of diaby’s quality

  87. rico says:

WATH, that’s the problem, the only games that the rose tints can use are the stoke, wolves kind of games… we should be beating those with our second string…..

  88. rico says:

Andrew, all the finance stuff you have mentioned was in yesterdays post & afc.com, no doubt everyone knows about it – you are not springing something new on us….

  89. Erick says:

Chary sorry I ment Eastmond and Jack guess have already signed a few to replace the double d boys 🙂 🙂

  90. rico says:

‘lucky to buy someone of diabys quality’

Holy Moses, if we buy someone with his quality, we should be calling for Wengers head, he needs to be aiming an awful lot higher than ‘diaby’!!

  91. W.A.T.H says:

Thanx for the history and architecture lesson Andrew you really do work for the club don’t you… Think i know a lot more than you but your on a mission of club rules and we are all idiots and stupid as we don’t agree with you or the clubs bullshit politics and lies and yet your gullable enough to believe everything your spun/told…! Line of the day… Someone of Diaby’s quality…. Next you’ll be telling us Sperz are gonna win the league..!.

  92. W.A.T.H says:

As said Andrew al your doing is blowing smoke up dot com’s arse and quoting club ‘Yarns’…..! Do you not have your own thoughts o do you just follow where they lead and believe all your told..?.

  93. rico says:

Gallas is being linked with the swampies, now that is funny!

  94. Erick says:

Andrew has it ever crossed your mind we would be more happier if we remained at higbury and won more trophies than build a mega stadium and the trophy cabinet is full of dust. The main objective of a football club is trophies and am not devaluing the emirates just getting a point across

  95. W.A.T.H says:

As for giving it to a cotractor to demolish in seconds Andrew am afraid your wrong they were listed buildings/are listed buildings so the history could not of been demolished in minutes but you obviously didnt know that……….. oh well carry………!

  96. Erick says:

Rico Gallas is a goner not a gooner he is asking for cash which according to Andrew is not there :-/

  97. goonergav says:

Sorry for not replying earlier Rico.. I would blame it more on ineptitude and naivety mate… That’s what frustrates me the most about this Arsenal team… Don’t think there is a lack of spirit… maybe a lack of belief amongst some of the players…

  98. think you either stumped him he’s fucked off

    afternoon

    busy day?

true spirt hasn’t been there in some games but there in others. so cant agree. rico

think we would have been worse off if we hadn’t moved erick a la liverpool.

  99. W.A.T.H says:

Andrew should know Erick he works for the club…! He knows FAR more than we do…..!

  100. rico says:

😆 Erick, a goner he is and i’m not sad either…

rsd, players shouldn’t pick and choose when to show spirit, they should be up for every game, they don’t know how lucky they are….

no worries goonergav, winning brings belief, spirit and attitude wins games 😉 put them both together we may get back to winning trophies…

  101. Erick says:

Afternoon RSD yap true but just tired of people saying Emirates is the reason why we can’t win anything . WATH he even changed your name to Watch LoL 🙂

  102. Erick says:

Goal.com states that AA, Clichy, Dudu, Rosicky and Gallas are goner what you make of that

  103. W.A.T.H says:

Least I wasn’t a swatch Erick………… Least then though I could be the clock end 🙂

  104. rico says:

Bloomin heck Erick, can’t see them all going though, maybe Clichy will stay 😉

    Swatch, more like a Rolex… 😉

  105. by the way where did wenger say he would only sign one defender he says one forward and strenghten the defense

  106. cant see ashavin going now the tories are in the 50% tax will go and he’ll stay

  107. rico says:

I read it somewhere a few weeks ago rsd, he suggested just one defenderr and chamakh

  108. “My transfer policy this summer will be to keep our strengths going forward, add one player, and add more defensive strength to our team.” http://bit.ly/c11OKj

  109. Erick says:

Next season we are stuck with Diaby no Melo or Toure crap

  110. Erick says:

Hope the defence includes a keeper

  111. W.A.T.H says:

Relax Erick Diaby is young and improving and wil be world class next year………. So I am told…!

  112. rico says:

Maybe he has had a change of thought rsd, that has to be good….

  113. thought it was just regurgitated

  114. think buffon one might rage all summer

  115. Erick says:

Rsd it would be a good one for us I bet

  116. W.A.T.H says:

Buffon would do me……………. Get rid of the waiter flappy and promote Chezny to No…!

  117. rico says:

he def said one earlier rsd, but we all know we need at least two 😦

Off to walk the mutts, catch up shortly

  118. i doubt it would be nice to get that russian one whatever his name is with having aa might help

  119. Erick says:

Aw talks in parables you can’t get what he wants to do

  120. Erick says:

Not heard of him RSD but he can’t be worse than the clowns

  121. W.A.T.H says:

Akinfeev is good goalie BUT is he tall enough RSD…? I would lke someone a bit bigger to command the pen box…!. Also an older keeper who won’t get in the way of Chezney in a year or 2…!

  122. SD-London says:

Wenger will only buy what benefits the board and the accounts in the long run. Therefore no Buffon, may be Akinfeev if he is under £7million.

Wenger can help Daiby by taking him off on time when ever he is having a bad day. If Diaby then realizes his playing time is reducing, he will buckle up. He is a great talent but too inconsistent.

Wenger will drag the goal keeper situation till after world cup , then Alumnia might have a good pre-season and God help us if Wenger decides to stick with him.

  123. buffon only 32 so someone like hans butt

  124. W.A.T.H says:

Frey makes sense at 33/34 RSD but is he good enough…? Not so sure..!. Def need to central defenders and pls pls pls if he keeps the waiter and peanut head I’m not going in there at all next season simple as that.

  125. Erick says:

Wath nobody is going to get in chesney way he will make it Buffon is ideal but his wage demand may put AW off

  126. Erick says:

Peanut head is a goner. AW is so focused on making the player he has to be champions yet the focus should be looking for the missing link to create a quality team. Joe hart seems on his way back to Citeh they wont let him go

  127. Erick says:

SD london Aw has said the keeper situation is not one is concerned with

  128. SD-London says:

Erick, o.k maybe we should just forget the goal keeper situation then.So why are we debating it then?:)

  129. W.A.T.H says:

We’ll be back to discussing wenger being blind and delusional if he don’t buy a keeper and keep on with it’s not a problem area…. if he is serius then he needs to be institutionalised…!

  130. Erick says:

Am just quoting AW SD we all know its an important area but don’t get your hopes high

  131. rico says:

Oi Oi, who mentioned peanut head, i got told that name was banned 😉

Afternoon peeps – just got back before the rain is due 😦

  132. W.A.T.H says:

Bit of rain would of given u a wash farmer Jiles 😛

  133. rico says:

🙂 WATH, and given the veggies a good soaking…

  134. W.A.T.H says:

good for the marrows n cucumbers I suppose………..! no need to mention the carrots scrumpy Jack….. 🙂

  135. rico says:

Oi Oi, runners and dwarf beans actually and new potatoes, bit of rocket and lettuce too 🙂

Trouble is, the dogs like them all too…. 😦

Not a cucumber, marrow or carrot in sight you bad man 😉

  136. agirlagunner says:

Hallo, all. rico, you’re on a roll! And I see that there were some angry AW fanatics in here. Song’s been a revelation this season. Injury barring, he’ll go from strength to strength, I’m sure. I don’t think Gael is leaving. He seems to really love our club.

If/when Gallas goes, we’ll need more than one defender. I have serious doubts about JD’s immediate return to full match fitness.

WATH has been reborn as a timepiece! I suspect it’s for timing the daily GG fix!

    Hello, Erick and SD London.

  137. W.A.T.H says:

Ok sorry farmer Jiles… keep going u might get the job at the bowl as head groundswoman 😉

  138. rico says:

I best not answer that one WATH, I may offend someone, but it involves players and veggies 😉

  139. rico says:

    Afternoon AGAG 🙂

  140. rico says:

I think we need more than one CH AGAG, if Gallas goes, we need two with Sol in there for emergencies…

  141. W.A.T.H says:

AGAG the GG in on the hour every hour not sure i need to be a tick tock to sort that out 🙂
Don’t say that 2 loud Rico, Sol might like 😛

  142. agirlagunner says:

Completely agree, rico, re: our defensive needs.

You grow your own vegetables? I don’t have a green thumb. I almost failed agricultural arts in high school because my carrot harvest (two weenie ones) was pathetic.

The transfer talk page on our dotcom is beyond bizarre. What is the point, seriously?

WATH, good to know you don’t need to be reminded. 🙂

  143. rico says:

WATH, 😳 Poor Sol, good job he would be resting all summer 😉

But the defence for me includes another Song AGAG, but then we all know that so i’m beginning to sound very boring..

I wish some of you guys would get some inspiration to write your heart felts down, then I can post them 🙂 🙂

Nothing like veggies from the garden AGAG, carrots are a devil though because of the white fly 😦

  144. W.A.T.H says:

    AGAG, Rico grows grass…………. 😉

The dot com rumour section is pretty pathetic looks like they hard up for hits on the site..!.

  145. W.A.T.H says:

White fly………?? that what you see when ur hammered Rico…? 😉

  146. rico says:

The rumour bit on the site is no better than newsnow, like you say wath, just looking for more viewers, they need to get the televison programme set up with espn, that would be more worthwhile imho…

You don’t want to know what i see after a few scrumpies WATH 😉

  147. W.A.T.H says:

Long as ur eyes don’t meet in the middle Rico 🙂

  148. agirlagunner says:

I hope to think of something soon, rico. In any case, we have a loooong summer ahead twiddling thumbs, fretting over purchases, etc.

Drogba’s beeen talking about Torres. Argh. I wouldn’t be able to bear it if he turns Chav. He looks better in red. With white sleeves, of course.

  149. rico says:

Never wath, they go all over the place 😉

thanks agag, re Torres, he’d be a fool to go anywhere other than join us, he doesn’t strike a money man, he seems loyal otherwise he would have quit the dippers before now i think…

    sign him up arsene 🙂

  150. rico says:

I have to go out tonight, so catch up with you tomorrow…

Have a good evening all, be good 😉

  151. JonJon says:

    nice post rico..

i think we best phone the local village and ask them if they are missing their idiot..

either wengers totally lost it or he thinks we are all stupid..

but its the usual summer spin so im not bothered..i stopped listening to anything he said a long time ago..

  152. raif says:

    any one about 🙂

  153. rico says:

    morning peeps

    new post up
