Decisions, decisions, Reinforcements in the summer??

This season’s curtain is closing and fast. In a couple months it will be done and dusted, but right now the feeling of still being able to win the double is just fascinating, unbelievable and very exciting.

The end of the season usually brings a lot of boredom, no weekend games, no midweek distractions from the hustles of every day life but all is not so bad this summer, the World Cup is coming to Papa yap, my continent the big β€˜A’. Not the Big Apple but Africa, my country will be hosting the world cup and I can’t wait!

Arsene Wenger made it clear he will be going to the world cup to look for fresh talent, he is convinced Chinese or is it Japanese or Koreans have what it takes to compete at the highest level so next season prepare yourself you might need to practice pronouncing those tough names from Asia πŸ˜‰

I guess a lot depends on what happens between now and the end of the season, but then the boss has to make a decision whether to buy and if he does, who to buy. We all have to make decisions in life, but don’t you just hate it when you have to? Life is all about decisions and as one scholar said, life without decisions is like winking at a woman in a dark room – you know she won’t see you and will never know you even exist!

Picture of me winking at Britney spears at a party

She just passed by without saying anything πŸ˜‰

Anyway I digress….

It will soon be time for AW to make those tough decisions to strengthen the squad and as we all know he is slow to do so but shoot me this time he has no option but to splash the cash and bring some class, experience or even a celebrity (am talking of a footie kind not the George Cluney kind) at the Emirates which funnily enough, Nasri, Arshavin, Fabregas and the legendary Tony Adams have pointed out as essential.

Friends, I still believe that with 2 or 3 additions to this current squad we will rule the world with our eyes closed. We are so close to the completion of rebuilding of this youth project which I know if we maximize our potential we can challenge the 49 unbeaten run by the invincible.

One of the major problems with this current squad has been a decent keeper, I wont start the finger pointing – Almunia this, Fabianski that or why Vito did not get the chance but what I have seen is enough to convince me to say we need a better keeper, one who can produce some match winning performances or bail the defence out when they are having a bad day – it may be Chesney next season, if not surely it is time for Arsene to buy a great goal keeper.

The defence has been solid this season but the statistics say we have conceded more goals than last season, we all liked what AW did with the purchase of TV and it is clear to see what a difference he has made.
We need more though of that kind of signing, it’s not much to ask from Arsene Wenger, he needs to work his magic again during the transfer window.

Sol has been the best resigning in a while but at his age he can’t play two games in one week and like Silvestre is on his way out at the end of the season I think.
Gallas is having injury problems and with the club talking about cutting his salary by half it is unlikely we will keep him. That said if he stays we still need one more addition at the back if he walks away two additions will be mandatory. Djourou may be back fro pre-season but playing Song at the back means we need to buy a holding midfielder and a defensive midfielder – and that would cost a whole lot more money.

The forward line has had real problems, before the return to fitness of Nikky, RVP a long term absentee, Eduardo a shadow of himself, there was great concern. We still need another striker and as RSD calls him Chamakakakaka will be free a agent at the end of the season, all indications are that he is heading to the Emirates. We all know Arsene Wenger won’t think twice about signing him especially without having to dig deep in his pocket.

The creative midfield position is full of style and I will go ahead and say we have a complete creative midfield, in fact we have too many maybe…
So what is the talk of Ireland of Citeh coming to the Emirates? Rubbish, and in any case, we sell to Citeh we don’t buy from them!

Alex Song has made the holding/defensive midfield position his own, but I still think we need reinforcement; Denilson is yet to prove he is a real contender.
Talk is ripe that Eastmond will be pushed to the first team next season which would be a great idea because we spend a lot of money in the Youth project it has to pay off some time. I wonder if we will see a few more joining him too, just to save the pennies πŸ˜‰

So, do you think Arsene Wenger will buy in the summer, do you think he needs to buy in the summer? Will Arsene have to sell in order to buy, thankfully all that is something that the boss has to decide.

If you ask me I will tell you I am not Arsene Wenger πŸ˜‰

Enjoy your day and Keep the Faith.

    Morning all

Thank you Erick for your post, it certainly gives food for thought.

My own view is that if we win something this year, don’t expect much action by the boss in the summer other than a CH.

He will continue bring through the youth and say ‘we are good enough, i believe in this squad’ etc…

If we don’t win anything, I expect he will say the same πŸ˜‰

Chamakh as you say, seems to be on his way and Eastmond will step up as cover for Song

All in my own humble opinion of course

  2. rico says:

Oh, and I enjoyed reading your post Erick, very much πŸ™‚

  3. that is a very good read rico
    thanks safari-man
    news from the big A.
i like it more more more…

  4. rico says:

Morning rsd, I enjoyed it too, Erick should be happy ..

  5. i think aw has a plan to move song back next season
and play denilson in his hm roll
he likes to train ch as hm first like he did with kolo
eastmond will be the understudy to denilson next year
i reakon jesus and denilson are best buddies anyone seen them about on blackstock in the kebab shop?

AW will be on safari at wc let see if he can bag us a lion or Cat?

  6. rico says:

Messi got another hattrick yesterday 😦 hope his goals soon dry up…

  7. he’s on his way he said 5 mins ago

  8. K-TR7 says:

Morning rico.i watched messi fc last night.i must say he is quite the 2nd half he tore zaragoza a new one by scoring his second hattrick in a week.he also made one of the maziest dribbles you’ll ever see to earn a penalty for ibra.ibra misses were identical to nik’s vs burnley.their defence is poor especially maxwell and marquez.they were scored twice from two route one balls and almost let a 3 goal lead slip.

  9. did you see the second goal he just ripped the ball off the guy in centre circle and then run a lap round the pitch took on all 21 men and then bottom corner was the best goal i’ve seen since……..

but with peter and big gay sol he wont be able to do that.

  10. he’s averaged a goal every 36 mins a stato told me in the last 4 game

  11. Erick says:

Thanks Rico I enjoyed writing it too and we will need to something special with the defence may be the red card to TV is a wake up call if we are to look at it in a positive way Thanks for the Edit Rico πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  12. Why is safari so beautiful………….

  13. Erick says:

    Morning all

  15. rico says:

    Morning KTR7 & Ercik

KTR7, I saw some of the Messi FC on Sky, he is just awesome, world player of the year. I don’t think we would have let him do that to us. What was the oppo like during the game?

Erick, it was my pleasure, honest πŸ™‚

  16. they have 2 games before they play us so thats nice

  17. sing you bastard sing
    or show us your ring….

  18. Erick says:

Messi will not be a problem just wait and see Song belongs and he will surely be up for it one thing AW might do is tighten the mf may Nikky may start on the bench

  19. how do we solve a problem like messi
we dont man mark so it will be the 424
with D.I.A.B.Y and peter playing the hold when we havent got the ball.

  20. rico says:

KTR7 is right though, their defence is weaker than ours, the way the oppo got their two goals was route one through the middle and easy finishes – I am not worrying about Barca, one little bit.

Its easy to shine against weaker oppo, but check how he plays against the likes of Real Madrid…

  21. Erick says:

We will need to buy glue and apply it to our boys boot πŸ™‚ keeping possesion might do the trick coz without the ball Messi will be no where mmmh

  22. rico says:

    πŸ˜† Erick

I have to go out for a couple of hours 😦

    back later, be good πŸ˜‰

  23. I presume this was written before Saturday night?

Penalty Saving Almunia not a match winner? Denilson not yet a real contender? OOOPPPSS!!

  24. on paper they have a good defence safari-man

  25. the denilson “the spanish inquisition”
has yet to do it week in week out but we expect big things

  26. Erick says:

Hi Queen one game does not define a player consistency is key and if you ask me today i will say Denilson and Al have alot to prove especially against top teams

  27. Erick says:

RSD Barca you say thats their weak link their strength is the mf

  28. I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

  29. Erick says:

Are you a poet nice one mind sharing more of those πŸ˜‰

  30. they look scary on paper
i havent seen enough of them but i will be talking to osasuna inny before the game and will get the complete low down he’s the basc in barca so he will know

  31. not mine is an old mentant saying

  32. In shield fighting,
    one moves fast on defence,
    slow on attack.

  33. mentat not mentant

  34. Erick says:

Fear not the task may seem huge and the road impassable but with a little faith we can go all the way lets try it but we have a game this weekend so lets take it slow as John legends puts it

  35. first do the probable
    then do the possible
then before you know it you’ll
    be doing the impossible

    st francis of assisi

  36. right enough of this riddling

  37. Erick says:

How is the table looking RSD am yet to look at it RVP back in training πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ great boost

  38. so they have osasuna at home and then away too mallorca on weekend who are 4th

  39. Erick says:

Yap EPL table especially the GD

  40. Erick says:

They also play real in btw the 2 CL games (i think)

  41. stopped looking after 20hrs after “the wham” game
    damn dippers

  42. Erick says:

A draw for both would have been fantastic but Pensioner play midweek hope they flop again the Mancs will be a tough one

  43. pompey away that would be a scripted

  44. K-TR7 says:

To stop messi you have to manmark ain’t pretty but he can do damage if given space.i also noted he loves to attack defender by wrong footing him then turn him inside avoid this chavs played bosingwa at lb hence nullifying messi.bendtner will be important since i noted we can expose them through long balls at times if passes are not working.eboue’s direct running will scare the daylights off barca defence.

  45. messi heat map shows him all over the place so that would ruin our shape
2ndly when have we ever mm anyone ktr7
i cant see aw playing spoiling tactics

  46. Erick says:

Yes K wil have to win it ugly because if we entertain them we will regret am saying hook or crook πŸ™‚

  47. fear is the mind killer safari

  48. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I see QoS is up & about after the Denilson performance πŸ˜€

  49. Erick says:

G9 everybody is praising Dnls at the moment but he had a good one RSD not fear mate tactics

  50. rico says:

    Afternoon all

  51. rico says:

One good performance by Denilson doesn’t turn him into a great player, he needs to do that every time he plays, same for Almunia…

  52. she aclf
you know what the situ is there

  53. K-TR7 says:

Afternoon i had observed earlier,in the barca game alves patrolled the whole right wing giving messi the freedom to cut infield hence he is able to run at the cbs directly.if we can control that wing, messi will have to help out alves hence he is less effective.if song stays infront of sol and vermy cutting off the killer balls we will be fine.vermy can deal with messi, sol and ibra will square off in the physical duel.the crosses from maxwell and alves can be dealt with comfortably by sol.i think sol may be ideal for this match since ibra is a monster;technical drogba and i don’t think gallas would handle him well.

  54. Alex says:

    Potencial summer signing:

First of all, Chamakh deal looks to be done. He’s not a great striker, but gets the job done. Good cover for RvP. Chamakh isn’t fastpaced, but isn’t slow either. He is just avarage, but what I like about him si his willingness to go into a duel. That makes him a threat in the air, as he has scred quite a few with his head.

What Arsanl desperately needs is another Vermalen, only quicker and stronger, kinda like Kolo. He was sold because of his dispute with Gallas, where AW opted for his fellow countrymen over the ivorian, a decision that this season so far has looked like the right one, as Kolo hasn’t been at his best in the blue parf of Manchester, while Gallas has been the defender of the season. But he is not getting any younger, and we do need a strong CB as a cover until Gallas is old and tired (or leaves in 2 months) and then take over. Djourou isn’t good enough, and now after the injury, probably will be rusty and slow, like Eduardo is now. So a new CB needs to be purchased.

Arsenal also need a better option in center midfield. Today they have Diaby and Ramsey and Denilson (alongside Cesc that is). Denilson, although have shown his lethal right foot from distance quite a few times, is inefficual, inaccuare and not up for a battle most of the times. Diaby is a lot on and off, he can dominate the game at times, and other times he is just there… A good option would be De Rossi, though not a very possible option as he doesn’t want to leave the Italian capitol, and Roma would never sell him even if they are broke and De Rossi is the only player left at the club. What’s important in a CM for Arsnal is that he has unrivaled stamina, and a great work rate. Lassana Diarra, once snapped from Chelsea, and for some reason let go to Portsmouth, would be a great choice. Now rules the midfield of Real Madrid, the frenchman never stops running and is any playmakers nightmare as Diarra closes down everyone and everywhere. Could give Cesc a free role, wondering around and creating chances.

Some more effective winger could wouldn’t be such a bad idea either. David Silva for one could be a good addition to the squad.

And of course the goalkeeper. So many arsenal fans are furious at our goalies. Lately Almunia has been great, penalty saves and solidy in the last 2 games, but he is also known to make mistakes such as missing at puches and catches on crosses, being wrongly positioned and not rushing out when he should and colliding with his teammates. Fabianski on the other hand rushes out way to many times, getting his defenders in a risky situation and leaving the goal open. He also likes to puch the ball into his own net and he looks extremely insecure. He does tend to make some great saves, but unfortunately his mistakes weight up for that. Amd of course Manonne, who only had one or two good games, looks inexperienced, and frankly quite poor when it comes to picking crosses from the air. And Schezny? He’s a kid playing for second division team. Of course any goalie from a higher division, no matter age and experience will look like Gordon Banks. So the point is, if Arsenal want to be the best, then their goalie has to represent that. What better representative is there than Buffon? He is clearly unhappy at Juventus’ bad performances and he said so himself. And the heavy loss against Fulham in the EURO cup might just be the final drop. I say make a move for him in the summer. Igor Akinfeev, the russian national team goalie is also a valid option. He also expressed some will to relocate to a better team. Don’t let this one fall in the hands of the old goat they all call Ferguson.

  55. with aa and clichy clicking ktr7 he will be more worried about us

  56. rico says:

Good point KTR7, what did you think to my idea of a barca post?? I love reading your Euro round ups …

  57. Erick says:

K-TR7 your very observant and you hit us with a long and before we know it your gone then back again with another one but do you think Theo is ideal for this match

  58. Erick says:

Afternoon Rico RSD am praying for AA as we speak guys we need to be careful not to drift so much into Barca and we have Brmgh on saturday

  59. rico says:

rsd, thats just it, we have the players to scare them to,

    hi Erick

  60. K-TR7 says:

Rico-i’ll do my best to have it ready.the thing with messi is in almost all his moves,he will turn a defender inside achieve this,he mainly attacks left footed defenders knowing the weak right peg won’t stop him hence he batters defenders.if song can leave the attacking to our forwards and stay infront of the defence, messi won’t have any space to run into.chelsea used a rb at lb to stop him and it marking can work too sometimes since if messi is marked by song, unlike our mfs xavi&iniesta have little goal threat but i wouldn’t recommend it since it may backfire(ask chav fans in cl semis).

  61. K-TR7 says:

Erick-theo thrives on space.Against barca we need our technicians(tomas&nasri) more to keep the ball to avoid conceding possession easily.we are at a disadvantage since a mistake here may cost us the game.i would bring on eboue latter along with theo if we are leading since barca fbs will gamble more and pour forward then we hit them on the counter to take the game away from barca.this would make their fbs more cautious to avoid conceding more hence we can see out the game comfortably.Away at nou camp barca will attack alot and i’m sure eboue will start due to his directness and ability to defend.

  62. Erick says:

K-TR7 I asked if Theo is ideal for this match and if Messi uses one foot gues it should be easier to mark him Man marking is not ideal lets go after the ball Iniesta and Xavi will walk the ball into the net I see Denilson starting this one

  63. rico says:

KTR7, no pressure, its only if you want to πŸ˜‰

  64. Erick says:

Thanks K-TR7 so gues you will have to give us the favourable line up lets crowd the midfield it always works

  65. rico says:

    What a man….

Barcelona striker Thierry Henry admits he is not looking forward to playing against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.

Barca take on the Gunners in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition following last week’s draw and Henry will take on his former team for the first time since he left for Camp Nou back in 2007.

Henry spent eight years in North London and formed a close relationship with the club’s fans, eventually taking the captain’s armband from Patrick Vieira.

The 32-year-old says he will be a professional and put in his best, but admits it will be weird to go up against Arsenal.

“Whenever there is a draw for the Champions League I’m in pain,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m not saying I won’t try to fight or whatever because that’s the way the game is. But I don’t want to play against Arsenal.

“It will be weird for me to step on the pitch, even if it’s at the Emirates and not Highbury, with another shirt on.”

When asked if he would celebrate a goal, he added: “Forget about it. No. I do not want to play against Arsenal, simple as that.

  66. Erick says:

Thats Rico being nice πŸ™‚ πŸ˜‰

  67. Erick says:

The great Henry I love this guy

  68. i agree ktr7 this is not gona be the goal feast that people think it gona be a juve job 0-0 at home and 0-5 at camp nou
did i say that iam booked fully now πŸ™‚

  69. K-TR7 says:

Rico-i’d love to.erick the thing with theo is he has not played for quite a while so we don’t know which theo will show.if he is at his best,he may start to subdue iniesta and maxwell.the problem is AA will start if fit and the defence will receive little protection.AW opts for AA’s directness on one side and trickery, guile and graft on the other wing hence nasri/rosicky will start on the opposite flank.cesc may have difficulties in patrolling the mf with both theo and AA on the pitch against xavi&iniesta hence i think theo is not ideal,AA is superior.we also need diaby and clichy to control that flank to enable AA to cut infield to run directly at pique and puyol.diaby’s direct style will be nothing they’ve never seen before.

  70. rico says:

Afternoon Alex, Good to see you here on Avenell Road…

Sorry for the delay, you were in moderation but your comments will go straight up now

What an entrance too, great comment

  71. rico says:

Thanks KTR7, I love forward to it, it always good to read others views..

Erick, you being cheeky, I’m always nice πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

pop back and read the comment from Alex folks, its good

  72. hold on alex i have to catch up

  73. agree with most but Diarra been shit for real the marca says he does deserve to wear the shirt and never will.
we’d never afford villa price or wages and yet to see igor.

  74. K-TR7 says:

Denilson may not be everybody’s cup of tea but no one will be pleased more on his weekend’s perfomance than AW.he isn’t physical but intelligent.he has the knack of intercepting passes and keeps the mf ticking with his passes.against barca we have to beat them at their own game hence why AW may consider denilson.denilson’s other major strength is long range shooting.he and rosicky(i think he’ll start) have lethal shots from range;for those who watch barca regularly valdez fumbles almost all shots that are struck sweetly.we also have to use long balls to nik since barca have trouble dealing with them.maxwell is probably the weakest point in their defence and i’m sure AW will look to exploit it.

  75. Erick says:

Alex nice one where is the Queen to read this Jesus, the point you put up that if we want to be best is a good one but AW will not spend to the extreme we hope the world cup can bring some cheap yet useful player bt i must say your comment is good

  76. Real Social Dad Debbie Phillips Cervical Cancer Research please RT good spot mike

  77. rico says:

Erick, QoS is a big fan of Denilson, he can play the worst ever but she will always support him.

Stats sometimes overshadow what ‘really’ goes on during a game…

  78. rico says:

KTR7, With all players fit, I honestly don’t think Denilson would make it passed the bench for matches. One good game on Saturday maybe, but after how many games of watching him pass sideways or back?

Anyone remember David Batty, or as he was sarcastically remembered as David ‘pass it back’ Batty….

  79. they are only tool stats not the be all and end all

  80. rico says:

spot on rsd… eyes see different very often.

  84. Erick says:

Rico so i better watch my back πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ RSD stats are useful in research but in footie the 90min + added time as we have lately experience is the most important stat

  85. rico says:

πŸ˜† Erick, dont forget too, many folk like to come on just to have a dig at the post, or to correct a error. Things like that used to get to me, but no more…

  86. 4pigs says:

    Catch you tomorrow some time..

    Nighty night, be good all

  122. JonJon says:

    well done erick..a nice post..

i agree with you in the positions you mention and i also like to see a finisher

whoever we see come in we know that wenger likes to balance the books so players will leave…but the key to this seasons success is cos wenger sold the right players in the summer..kolo was passed it and he was never really that good anyway and ade was a tosser…

in seasons prior wenger has always found himself rebuilding..losing key players at the wrong time..hleb and flamini being the case the season before..

wenger needs to concentrate on keeping the core of this squad together and let the players we wont miss go again..replacing them with better players using a combination of signings and promoting the kiddies…id love JET to be given a chance next season

an example is this chamkaka bloke..what i dont want to see is him coming in and losing an AA or a rvp or a nikki b…i think we could cope with losing a dudu or a theo or a vela though..

another good scenario would be to let almunia and fabianski go and buy a top notch keeper and promote chesney..

if we lose gallas sol and silvestre (dont forget about phallipe phallope, hes still our player) we should buy a top notch CB and promote bartley..although i hope gallas and sol stay and then we may just get away with promoting bartley…just losing the sendersaurus and the silvestre..

keep the key players here, and replace the squad players with better…thats all we need to do..

oh and excellent response to an earlier comment erick..almunia has still cost us more points than hes won us and weve waited 3 years for denilson to do that..and it was against west ham…so no ballon d ors just yet im affraid..

Thank you, I hope the FA don’t add an extra game on to his ban,but it would appear that all and sundry think the sending off was incorrect, if there is any justice it will be overturned.

This was our first red card this season I think?
