Tale of two ex’s – How do you see it?

Many fans loved the moment when Arsenal Football Club announced they were to finally have a television programme of their own, I certainly was. Finally we had caught up with Manure and the Chavs who already had their own televison programmes up and running, not to mention the Spanish sides.

I was disappointed at first when I saw the ‘opening hours’ were limited, but I loved having access to the youth games, reserves games and of course the ladies games.

One man though used to really get on my nerves when he either reported our news, commentated on live matches or during the general chit chat about our club and our players..
That man was, is, Stewart Robson – he played for us between 1981 and 1986 but to listen to him you would have thought he had played for Spurs or another London Club, but certainly not ours!

He always talked utter clap trap and often came across as being very negative about what was going on at Arsenal!

Yesterday afternoon though, he surpassed his own negative standards – this is what he said during an interview on Sky Sports. The interview was in relation to the events at the weekend.

It’s not verbatim, but near as it can be:-

I/V -Arsene Wenger says its more than a coincidence three players seriously hurt through bad tackles and he says they don’t get enough protection..

Stewart Robson replies – I don’t think he is right unfortunately, I don’t think Shawcross intended to hurt Ramsey, I don’t think Taylor intended to hurt Eduardo, the worse challenge was the one on Diaby up at Sunderland, that was a poor challenge but that was several years ago now – I think Arsene Wenger has to be a little bit careful because it’s only a couple of months ago when Gallas made that really poor challenge on the Bolton player Mark Davis – and probably the worst challenge i have seen for a long while is the challenge that Diaby made on a Bolton player a year and a half ago..
Of course, the injuries they received weren’t quite as bad and i think that is what has made it worse for Arsenal. The key thing is that everyone gets behind Aaron Ramsey at the moment!

What a knob!! If he is still at the club, Sack Him!!

Straight after the interview with Robson, Charlie Nicholas came on to answer the same question.

This is his reply:-

Charlie Nicholas – Played for Arsenal 1983 – 1988 (I loved him)

What Arsene Wenger says has not always been portrayed the way he has said it, what he is saying is, when he plays away at niggly teams it’s what it builds up to, because the crowd get up and then they say Arsenal are soft when we are in their face – then some of the managers stand up and say Arsenal don’t like this, we want to be in their face, we want to rough them up and they are quite proud of that fact; but it’s what it can lead to, there is nothing wrong with the manager saying that as factual as that’s the way they see it, buts it’s what it can lead to and players sometimes believe they can get away with more physical attributes of bullying Arsenal than they can with any other team because of the way that Arsenal play and I think for the last two or three seasons, Arsene Wenger does have a strong point!!

Has Charlie Nicholas not said what we have being saying for three or four seasons? At last, not only has a big man in football stood up and said it as it is, he’s also a pundit on Sky Sports.

Refreshing isn’t it?

Wales Manager John Toshack has spoken to Aaron – This is what he told Sky Sports

“It is a horrific injury, it makes you want to vomit. It was a sad, unfortunate incident,”
“I spoke to him this morning and he seems in decent spirits but it is a blow for the player, the club and us.
“All we can do now is hope for a speedy, successful recovery, but obviously it is going to be a long one.

I wasn’t going to write about the Aaron Ramsey incident today, but after hearing that pratt Robson speak, I felt the need to share..

I know whose view I share, how about you?

Tomorrow I promise not to mention it again, honest.. I will leave you with this ……

I read somewhere yesterday that Cesc has said two things – one is that he isn’t leaving us in the summer, the second is he would love Rooney to play for Arsenal…

Cesc, if what I read is true about you staying then I am one happy Gooner, now go off and tap Rooney up – you can do it 😉

Have a nice day you all…….

    Morning all

  2. I usually quite like what Robson says…. he seems pretty intelligent, howver, perhaps he is suffering from that usual ex-Arsenal player turned pundit affliction, whereby they always try and be impartial, but tend to go over board and come across as being harsh on their former club… Lee Dixon and Alan Smith do similar shit…

  3. W.A.T.H says:

    Mornin Rico………….

  4. rico says:

Morning GSI, forgive me for cutting your name down a bit.. Good to see you comment.

Robson always came accross as critical of everything AFC, that may be his view but when he was on ATV on Setanta he was awful imho

  5. W.A.T.H says:

I think the problem is everyone is saying that he didnt mean to dive into a tackle and hurt Ramsey and they are all probably right, however the facts are he broke his leg in two places was an hour late in the tackle and he kicked him half way up his shin bone…! FACT….! So he didnt mean to hurt him really isn’t relevant is it…?.

  6. W.A.T.H says:

rico pls change that to relevant…! ta sweetie 🙂

  7. W.A.T.H says:

    xxxx thank you 🙂

  8. rico says:

    Morning wath, all done..

Spot on, if you go out on a Friday night and throw a glass a someones face in temper causing serious injury you get done for GBH, if you cause the sane injury but by using the glass as your ‘tool’ – you get charged with GBH with intent – either way you still get a trip to court and the injury is the same…

Hope you get the gist 😉

  9. rico says:

GSI – I love the picture on your link 😉

  10. W.A.T.H says:

Rico thats very confusing, r u insinuating I’d throw a glass at someone in a pub in a fit of temper 😛

  11. W.A.T.H says:

Anyhow how you know so much about gbh and gbh with intent..? when does it then become abh as well…? 🙂

  12. morning all
    the ramsey divide is interesting

  13. rico says:

Nah, its the intent bit following on from your comment – reality is the baddie still gets done, and the injured party gets the same injury…

The tackle was wreckless but I don’t suppose that will make Ramsey feel any better. There is no place in the game for tackles like that imho..

  14. rico says:

Morning RSD, thanks, I think Champagne Charlie has a very good point..

wath, i watch too much television 😉

  15. W.A.T.H says:

I don’t wanna know what you watch on tv rico… scary stuff….! :-)Mornin rsd….! Oh and Charlie is proper Arsenal never ever will he have a bad word said without sticking up for us he is a top man…!

  16. wath
    attempted murder is head injury
    gbh is above the waist
    abh in the shins

so if someone breaks in to your house take there kneecaps off

  17. ClockEndRider says:

Have to agree with the author. Robson, just like Smith, Wright and Merson seems to have taken the media shilling and decided he’ll get more column space and income from towing the anti-Artsenal line. It’s a pity, because I really like his analysis of tactics whcih frankly is the only analysis we see which goers deeper than the superficial crap spouted by Hansen, but I’m afraid if he can’t be objective then he should be sacked from Arsenal tv.

  18. did you see ivan the greek
    is gona give wenger
    8 more years

  19. oskar says:

I actually think Lee Dixon try and do his job and call it as it is but it’s not easy with bias c**** like Alan Hansen. I have caught Lee more than once looking at him with eyes like “Is he really serious” when talking about Arsenal

  20. W.A.T.H says:

RSD……….. if they wanna break in its gonna be far worse than sore knee caps 🙂

Robson does indeed talk sense with tactics etc etc but if he want;s to talk rubish about the club and the manager when we all can see the truth then he should not be employed by the club end of…!

  21. morning CER
aint it a shame when you choose money over pride

  22. W.A.T.H says:

Fungusbum calls shawcross to give him support…….. what a wanker……!! did he call to congratulate him on a good job done…? Bet he ain’t called Ramsey to wish him a speedy recovery…! Cnut…!

  23. they guys entitled to his opinion
    doesn’t say anything anti arsenal

gallas tackle was late and high but he wasn’t sliding in
    if memory serves me right.

shawcross is a stupid challange and even if he didn’t go in with malice or intent he must be thick then.

Like driving round a school zone at 100 mph.
Oh didn’t mean to run them over.
they should throw the book at him.

  24. Richard says:

    Hang on. What’s a pub?

  25. Robson has been working for Arsenal TV Online this season. Haven’t seen any of their programmes recently but he was the pundit on the preview show on a Friday.

I would like to watch and hear for myself what he said before commenting. I sometimes think the context of the question can skew the answer.

  26. W.A.T.H says:

Richard………… a pub is a place where women go to hit thier husbands/boyfriends round the head and tell them that they should hurry up and get home as they still not been in for dinner…!

  27. rico says:

Morning to those who have joined, sorry for the delay in getting, your comments were in moderation and my internet crashed 😦

AG, I can promise you, I have included more or less exactly what he said on Sky news yesterday afternoon.

CER – This is man who gets paid by ATV if he can’t be objective then he should keep quiet.. 😉

  28. rico says:

Richard 😆 and good reply wath 😉

  29. W.A.T.H says:

hmmmmmm what are you doing to that laptop Rico… I’m hetting jealous again…! 🙂

  30. rico says:

wath, its is infuriating, the internet crashed, off for a bit to sort it out… 😦 😦

  31. crashing it now, as well as singing and dancing on it

  32. W.A.T.H says:

it’s the blowing it that gets me hot n bothered 🙂

  33. W.A.T.H says:

    RSD……………… women and electronics……! Enough said 🙂

  34. getting a bit like “Crash” J.G. Ballard

  35. Richard says:

That sounds like a special laptop.

Be a good lad and share the secret??? Where did ya get it from? 😉

  36. it’s one of those quad core porn ones lol

  37. Edmond Dantes says:

    Hello Roadsters

You may have been wondering where I’ve been all this while. I’ve been to the Reunion Islands for work purposes.

Anyway, I just want to say: Come on Gunners. We can do it! By that I’m talking about the title.

  38. Edmond Dantes says:

We’ve been written off by all and sundry. Title glory is within reach. I watched “The Departed” the other day. There was something interesting that Nicholson said: “Nobody gives it to you, you got to take it.” So that’s exactly what I hope we do.

  39. Arsenal’s chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, has said the club are looking to bring the Highbury Clock to the Emirates. The famous clock, which was erected in the early 1930s by the then-manager Herbert Chapman, is expected to be in place for the start of next season.
    about fucking time

  40. rico says:

I’m back, a very very nice man in India has finally sorted all my internet problems 🙂

  41. W.A.T.H says:

U went all the way 2 india to fix it Rico, that was quick………..

  42. rico says:

Ha ha wath, i am exausted now 😉

  43. K-TR7 says:

    Whats new today

  44. rico says:

Hi KTR7, I haven’t been around to check up on any news, just off to now – and catch up with the comments

  45. rico says:

    RSD, what is that??

  46. rico says:

rsd – just read your comment about bringing the clock back – if anything will get the noise back at the emirates, the clock will, and yes, about time too..

  47. rico says:

Ah, how do make that out 😉

Not much news around today.. Roll on Saturday

  48. apparently we’re gona rename the stands next season to norf bank, east and west and the clockend

  49. the gadiz interview is a bit interesting
and cant wait to listen to “the shawcross redemption”
    alan daives podcast
    but no sound today

  50. but is a slow day
could turn you to drink with you tea

  51. rico says:

is that real, renaming the stands? that would really please the fans but cant see it happening?

  52. rico says:

It is a very slow day for everyone i think, not until after dark does the tea get swapped 😉

  53. rico says:

Well shiver me old timbers, that is great news. WWhere did you sit/stand at Highbury rsd

  54. have no idea how to draw a pint with a keyboard

    tea at 1
    and supper at 6

dont tell me you call it lunch

  55. we never sat
most of the time i was either forcing me way to the front or me uncle was holding me up to see.
But when i got to old for that and bank came down
my other passion took over so listened to the rest of the games by the pond.

  56. My mate lived at number 44. Before they built up the Norf End, we could climb onto the little roof on the first floor and see one half of the pitch. Her mum used to have a go at us though in case the roof caved.

  57. rico says:

    I am a lunch and dinner/supper person 😉

Usually I sat behind the goal, but not at the clock end, I have been lucky enough to sit just behind the box that the ‘guests’ used to sit in too. The view was fab.

    You fish I take it…

  58. i try most of the time i’m just camping

  59. didn’t see you as a clock ender

  60. wow anr actually wrote something positive about us.

  61. W.A.T.H says:

rico how could u not go Clock End…..

  62. PDT says:

    Good afternoon!

Rico, the Aaron Ramsey injury overshadows everything else and I would love to see more perspectives on everything it says about the EPL and the way the FA allows officials to run the game.

  63. rico says:

ha ha you old tinkers, off for a bit, going to get a ‘clockerel’ 😉

I will be back very soon 🙂

  64. W.A.T.H says:

wring its neck Rico especially if it sings chas n dave….!

  65. PDT says:

    Good afternoon, rsd!

I enjoy reading your comments. Don’t get a chance to get on this site when there’s people around, but I enjoy reading the comments.

  79. rico says:

wath – I don’t know if you were reading the other day when guest post offers were flying around, well the same offer is open to you if you are inclined? Do you fancy writing a post for us all to slate, ridicule and enjoy every moment ?? 😉 😉

  80. rico says:

rsd, thats quite a difference, i think the answer is no..

  81. W.A.T.H says:

Had that discussion with Ave a few months back Rico….! I declined gracefully…! 🙂
Oh so now ur fond of me are you 😉

  82. prob the increase is due to all the diving
anyway catch you guys and girls later

  83. rico says:

    Have a good afternoon rsd

That’s a shame wath, ‘declined gracefully’ what does the latter of the two mean 😉

  84. K-TR7 says:

Blatter is considering scrapping the offside rule, this guy should retire…

  85. W.A.T.H says:

I’d tell you in pvt but not on here Rico…. maybe graciously declined would be a better word lol 🙂

  86. rico says:

KTR7, that is daft, one player would support it though…

    Lardybayor !! 😆

  87. rico says:

Seriously, thats a shame wath 😦

  88. W.A.T.H says:

Why Rico, hardly missing anything you do a fine job 🙂

  89. rico says:

Now I know you are taking the mikey 😉 I think its good to have different views and a different way of writing in a post, but I respect your decision. However, should you ever change your mind…. SHOUT 😉

  90. W.A.T.H says:

I’ll quickly get you no readers n banned from the net………… lol 🙂 and no wasn’t taking the Michael at all……!

  91. rico says:

    No you wouldn’t, and ok, I believe you, a bit… 😉

  92. W.A.T.H says:

I’ll do a post on Tarquin and Jemima and the plastic supporters how’s that…? :-)Do you reckon they even know where Highbury was…???????????

  93. K-TR7 says:

100 days to the worldcup, who are this years dark horses?i’m a betting man hoping not to bet on a lost cause.one thing’s for sure England will win nothing with jt in defence on current form.

  94. rico says:

That’ll do just nicely, I thought Jemima was in Play School 😉

His head has truely gone awol KTR7, and serves him right, Spain or Holland I reckon

  95. rico says:

I can see Terry missing out on the WC, just think he is not going to be focused on football..

  96. W.A.T.H says:

I thought Jemima was a prawn sandwich meself………

  97. K-TR7 says:

Just wait and see RVP shine at the wc marco van basten style who took holland to glory after an injury plagued season.spain is a favourite not a dark horse…

  98. W.A.T.H says:

England won’t win a piss up in a brewery although 2nd thoughts they prob would win that…! Don’t count the Krauts out KTR7……! Gotta be spain for me though..!

  99. K-TR7 says:

I fancy serbia/uruguay as probable surprise packages.the swiss/australia too.i also have a feeling france will scrape through.England’s best midfielders frank and stevie me have had poor seasons so far en route to the wc,only shrek is firing at the moment and he may burnout which doesn’t bode well for england but who knows.Wembley’s pitch is a disgrace

  100. scraping the offside rule im all for that mate is a pointless rule

  101. avenell says:

    Afternoon all..

Rico.. Terry missing the world cup isn’t a good idea, the rest of the squad will be shitting themseves and buying chastity belts..

    One of these might help..

  102. K-TR7 says:

Scrapping the offside rule will make the game look like ice hockey which i don’t fancy.our high line would be useless.Brazil though have the most complete squad:grafters such as melo and Gilberto, defensive rocks:lucio&luisao, wingbacks:alves&maicon, flair players:kaka, dinho&robinho, clinical forwards:pato&fabiano and a worldclass gk in cesar. They are the best counter attacking team and can also play decent possession football.Dunga has also drilled them on defensive skills making them difficult to break down. They can grind out results unlike spain though winning the wc will depend on their hunger.

  103. avenell says:

The old offside rule was an art practised by the old skool.. Adams, Bouldy, Dicko and Nutter..

Needs bringing back in it’s proper form.

  104. K-TR7 says:

Holland have a world class attacking line:elia, robben, rvp, hunterlaar, rvn and kuyt.they have very good ams:sneijder and van der vaart, good dms:engerlaar&de jong.the defence however lets them down against top level opposition;AA tore them to shreds in the euros.

  105. avenell says:

They always have a row up in the dressing room along the way too ..

  106. K-TR7 says:

Marcello lippi never ceases to amaze,Italy has got to be one of the most static teams in the wc.he opts for Iaquinta and Toni upfront while denying chances to younger players such as cassano and balotelli.Cannavaro is well past his due date although he will still be picked and his partnership with chiellini has not prevented juventus’ downfall.Their midfield is one of the best though the team is generally leggy and lacks flair to it.

  107. rico says:

hi ave – re the chastity belts 😆

  108. rico says:

    off to have dinner…

  109. rico says:

No-one about so i’ll catch you tomorrow – night all, stay safe

  110. rico says:

    Morning, new post up
