They may be young, but why not start playing one or two???

Yesterday Arsenal confirmed that promising youngster Benik Afobe had signed his first professional contract with the club.

Benik Afobe was on the radar of Barcelona last year and it was reported that he was ready to pack his back and head off to the sunny shores of Spain. Sensible lad though has realised where its best to get a chance in the life of football.

Here he is, all smiles – so would I be, I bet he counting his pennies already and wondering which big flash car he going to buy!!

Benik Afobe is the one sat down.....

Benik Afobe is the one sat down πŸ˜‰

On youth signings Young Guns reported yesterday that Giles Sunu had committed himself to the club by signing a new long term contract. It’s suggested that he told Radio Derbyshire this during an interview after securing his loan move.

So that’s two strikers secured, both though still under nineteen years old so I suppose we won’t see them in the first team just yet!

Talking about strikers only here, the question has to be is why not?????

Over the last few years we have seen players make an impact from such an early age, at the weekend Jack Rodwell scored the winner for Everton against the Mancs, he is just 18 years old

Michael Owen made his debut for Liverpool at 18 years old

Wayne Rooney made his Everton debut at 17 years old

Kadeem Harris made his Wycombe debut at 16 years old!!

I know there are many more to make their league debut in their teens – our own Theo Walcott is one of them. Compare his
impact on football to those like Rooney or Owen – sadly I would rather not right now:(

So why are we not seeing one of our youth players really come on and make a difference?

Rooney and Owen have scored goals for fun since day one and for which ever club they have played for.

We have Luke Freeman, Giles Sunu, Benik Afobe, Rhys Murphy, Roarie Deacon, Wellington Silva, Sanchez Watt and even Jay Simpson.

Which one of these are going to make a similar impact on the game of football as the likes of Rooney and Owen have?

Maybe more to the point, which one will get their chance?

Its a tough one really, I understand the principle of the youth project that Arsene keeps telling us about, but why is he afraid to let one of these ‘kids’ burst onto the scene?

Many managers aren’t afraid to throw their bright young stars into the mix, why is Arsene?

Is he protecting their bones during their teenage years, or is it simply the case of they are not good enough yet?

Two questions:-

1 – Will they ever be?

2 – Is he actually getting the right players to prove his youth theory?

Over to you

Have a great day all….

Mornin..Rico nice piece ” Benik Afobe is the one sat down” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ True to the core we need one young gun to walk the talk

  3. rico says:

Morning peeps, thanks Mrs Ave πŸ™‚

    Hi Erick, thanks…

Which one is going to do a Rooney then??

  4. Vermaelen says:

Maybe it’s simply that we have enough players already in the first team that we don’t need a replacement. Remember Wilshere, who is 17, was on the bench before his loan to Bolton and was called upon from time to time as a sub. As for who would burst onto the scene earliest… it has got to be Lansbury (which you have forgotten) who is having a good time scoring goals for QPR at the moment. Certainly he’s showing promise and gaining valuable experience, which younger players don’t have.

  5. Erick says:

Sanchez Watt i feel he has everything needed to be a good striker Wenger should give him playing time but he is on loan probably next season

  6. rico says:

    Morning Vermaelen,

    Did you read the post?

Wilshere and Lansbury are indeed on loan, however they are not included as they are midfielders, as the post says ‘talking strikers here’!

While we had no Nik, Eduardo, Vela, Walcott, RvP, why did we not play a youth/reserve striker is the question??

AW chose to put the likes of Nasri up in a forward position..

  7. rico says:

He’s a big old fella too Erick, I keep thinking Sunu and Freeman will jump ahead of him

  8. Thanks Marlene,

Why because we had AA rico.
Nacer is the best suit that role but he was injured
but why jet did have a go you can only reckon cos he just got done for driving with no licence.

    morning all great post rico

  9. Erick says:

I have heard alot of positive news on Freeman but i have never seen him in action. The problem in having a very young squad is that B52, Theo, Vela, Denilson, Ramsey and the likes are yet to prove they can deliver thus hampering the growth of the reserve who have to wait longer for their chance

  10. rico says:

    Morning RSD

Forget players who are injured, look at the fit ones in the youth and reserves who would have been able step up at the time when we had only AA up front?

My point is, AW beieves in youth, when we are really stuck for strikers, why is he not playing a ‘real striker’ from youth/reserves.

liverpool and everton werent afraid to throw kids in and leave them in…

  11. rico says:

Exactly Erick, some of the players have still yet to prove themselves, how long do you give a player? Do you keep playing a forward like Eduardo and Nik who cant seem to score very often, or do you start to put the likes of Sunu and Freeman on the bench and give them 15 minutes at the end of a game, get them used to the PL and if they are hits, start with them.

I really hope Nik and Eduardo find great form, but they need someone challenging them for a starting place…

  12. rico says:

I miss AFC TV – it was great to be able to watch the reserves/youth and the ladies team, its not quite the same trying to watch on a PC

  13. Erick says:

Mornin RSD since we started playing AA in the striking position he has been a flop goal drought and alway has this disinterested look

  14. thinks its a nice conveyor belt erick

bendtner 22y1m has now made it as first team regular

Denilson22.0, Ramsey* 20 are squad players

    Vela 21,Wilshere 18
    JET 20 , eastmond 20
    is Domestic cup player regular/resevrves

*exceptional talent therfore jumps a year

@ rico it is silly why did they drop it
yet atvo is a piss poor outfit sometimes you can hardly hear wenger

freeman looks quality good movement and awareness plus has good strike on him

  15. renoognut says:

    Correction mate, Lansbury is Watford.

  16. Slater says:

The whole point of the youth project is to ensure a steady stream of young gunners are available when there are first term injuries.
In this respect,AW for all his renowned talent spotting is second best to some of the epl managers when drafting them.Furthermore some of the kids seem to have gone backwards.
yeah i know they will take the world by storm when they deliver. Sadly it all seems a dream.

  17. it a really hard role to look good at if you look at eddy he’s awesome in that postion the speed of his feet.
some of the goals he’s created for other member of the team makes me go blind just thinking about it.4 goals 5 assists from 961 min is a good return so far.
Since rvp been out ot 2 and 3 from 597 mins

  18. Erick says:

I need to be looking out for Freeman the next big thing RSD lack of experience is written all over this squad and B52 needs several years to be the striker he is always talking about

  19. Mark c says:

    Hi there RICO.

The thing to remember is these players
not even make the bench at championship level so they would strugle in the prem.

Wenger gives the youth players time in the league cup to measure them.

The difference between youth football and prem is massive.
Lupoli is a great example of this.

Also Lansbury is at Watford not qpr. He is not England u21.

  20. rico says:

It was part of Setanta so ATV went at the same time as Setanta went belly up 😦

Hopefully plans are to relaunch oneday…

Morning Slater – are you saying that you don’t think we currently have anyone who will do what Rooney/Owen once did at 18..

  21. Erick says:

Slater point on totally agree RSD Eduardo has had some good assists but am afraid the injury took away the Eduardo i knew

  22. Big Jack is a gazillion times better than rooney will ever be he has class which rooney will never have.

  23. Erick says:

Rico blame ATV problems on the Economic crisis thats what everybody seems to point a finger at πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  24. i know i had shitanta but it still couldn’t find atvo on it had to pay the extra 4 quid from the club but least i knew my money was going to the people who need.

If we dont support the sport might not survive! πŸ™‚

  25. rico says:

Morning Renoognut and Mark – your comments will go straight up now, welcome to AR,

Mark, he does and very often the youth beat good PL sides with great ease. Then sadly they come up against a side who are desperate to win something, ie Spurs and face a really strong side and get knocked out..

The experience has to be good for them, but other than Wilshere, who really shines??

  26. atvo dropped the reserve’s only this season
    shitanta died last easter?

  27. Erick says:

RSD i believe jack is one for the present and future but what sets Rooney apart is hardwork

  28. rico says:

Setanta – πŸ˜† Erick & RSD, you two are on form this morning

Rooney v Wilshere – Right now I would rather Rooney πŸ˜‰

Rooney is the perfect striker, without him Manure would be just that, Manure πŸ˜‰

  29. in the reserve rico or the youth
    “The Eastmond suprise”
JET if wenger doesn’t think he’s another pennant
Nacer really this guy would have been in first team by now but was injured till now

  30. rico says:

Dislocated shoulder wasnt it RSD ?

    Eastmond, Frimpong, Coquelin, Merida

    Barazite, Freeman, Sunu, JET

  31. rico says:

    And Jack Wilshere

    of course πŸ˜‰

Anyone see David Villa’s goals at the weekend, the second was just to dream about …………

  32. rico says:

Erick, agree re both on Jack and Rooney ..

  33. fuck i could play for united and score 30 goals a season all you have to do is stand in the middle and stick your bum out.

Rooney does do alot of graft for the team.
and has the brain which all greats have about the game
gives you that extra half yard before you even walk on.

But Big jack will be better
the guy’s from stevenage first of all
    so he’s no bin dipper
    talk about aclf
he can see a pass a delivery as good as golden balls.
has the movement of a brazilian.
    need i go on.

    no will check out

    but have you seen a.hole
    i told you
    who dumps there husband text
    a sham one
    thats who
also he’s throwing his toys out about getting pulled up about all the smokescreen he putting
i think you do protest too much ash

  34. hh says:

morning. havent seen much of b afobe is he any good?

  35. Erick says:

RSD I agree with you, when we had a striking problem AW could have tried one of his young Gunz thus increasing our option during another crisis

  36. morning hh
    no i aint seen afobe
but if barca wanted him he must be good enough for the bench πŸ˜‰

  37. Erick says:

RSD dont get me started on Cashely rumours are he might be leaving pensioners Rico i havent the David villa goals but we need him at Arsenal (am dreaming)

  38. we’d never afford him
and just watched it that is a beut of goal
but the pass was just as good all the had to do was curl it in to the top corner lol

  39. rico have u had a hot flush again?

  40. Erick says:

    Ooops my bad sorry

  41. crap etherington could be back for saturday
he’s been there best player this season

  42. rico says:

I’m back, RSD I di have a hot moment and have to pinch another laptop πŸ˜‰

I will see if i can find the Villa goals on YT

RSD, Of ourse my heart would always be with Jack, but as far as strikers go, Rooney is the one on form and of coure David Villa, maybe he is the one we will get in the summer πŸ˜†

  43. rico says:

Mornin hh, I havent seen Afobe play either, but as Erick said Barca wanted him so he could be something, unless it was just a revenge mission…

  44. if we can get him for to work for tupence.

  45. Erick says:

Rico RSD said that he he he πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  46. Erick says:

I feel Barca are trying to pull what we pulled with Cesc i wish them luck πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  47. rico says:

The ball from Silva was indeed perfect, tat is just the type of ball that Theo needs to run onto. Of course I wouldn’t expect him to have the Villa kind of finish though πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  48. rico says:

    Headline in The Sun…

‘Cheryl may not want him but Barca and Real do’…

I think he will move in the summer – all the stuff coming out about him will make it very hard for him if he stays in England. I think there are a few more healines to come out yet though πŸ˜‰

  49. ohh sailor! πŸ˜‰

ash for theo we have seen him finish like that once.
now he just couldn’t finish his dinner
    or cross the road

  50. think this seals it for a.hole tho
    ashley-cole-chelsea-fight-disciplinary in the grundian πŸ˜‰

  51. rico says:

πŸ˜† RSD, or having gone to the same school as me, finish his sentence… πŸ˜‰

Did I ever mention I went to the same school as Theo πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  52. as for “tat” kind of ball would like to see more of them ie us turning defences in stead them getting mesmerized by are triangle’s

    AW is magic
    he wears a magic hat
    and when shows people triangles
they all fall on there backs.

  53. Erick says:

Realmadrid or Barca for Cashley op they offer counseling services to him

  54. what that old claim to shame

  55. rico says:

    I like the ‘Magic Hat’

Our passing has got a little predicable and all managers have done their homework on us…

Time for the players to have music classes, learn to play the triangle then πŸ˜‰

  56. rico says:

claim to fame RSD claim to fame… πŸ˜‰

  57. did you know till i was 13 i could play
but then everyone else grew up. lol
    “music classes” pmsl

  58. you know it still snowing here i have to go and cut snow off the roof this afternoon so it dont collapse

  59. Erick says:

RSD need some help with the snow πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  60. rico says:

bloomin heck, go steady up on the roof then Drifter πŸ˜‰

Erick, have you got the snow too??

  61. erick needs to send some heat over
    bloody frezzing -17 last night

  62. Erick says:

Rico no snow here but in people go to a certain mountain where snow can be found. The weather here is mostly hot or rainy very rainy when it decides to rain

  63. and its simpson scoring goals for qpr

  64. Erick says:

RSD sending it via DHL its crazy hot here at the moment

  65. rico says:

Where are you then Erick, I thought you were in the cold climates…

    -17 brrrrrr

  66. when u have to walk dog at 2300 it blood frezzing i call it nose frezzing weather cos all you snot freazes

  67. speaking of which i have to spin the dog

  68. rico says:

i have to go to for a while… catch you guys later..

  69. Erick says:

RICO -17 thats was by RSD me am enjoy the sun hot it is πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  70. Vermaelen says:

Ha, thanks, I mixed up all the names there πŸ˜›
I meant Jay Simpson of course, with 11 goals from 26 appearances for QPR, you’ve got to say he has a better return than Vela, and even a year older as well!!!

  71. rico says:

Vermaelen, good to see you have come back, don’t worry about the mix up πŸ˜‰

What do you think will happen to Simpson? I always quite liked him and hoped he would be our new ‘wrighty’

  72. rico says:

Erick, I realised about RSD, I just thought you were in a cold country too, obviously not…

  73. rico says:

Lol, did you get fed up with being called Tiki…

If the blog is that bad, why do you bother reading?

Needless to say, your comment wont be let on..

  74. rico says:

RSD, a blogger called LOL left an abusive comment, he also goes by the name of Tiki – my last comment was directed at him..

  75. right off to do the roof
    wish me luck

  76. Andy says:

How awesome (And English) will the Carling Cup Team Be next season Loan pending

    Chesney (Surely the next no1)

That’s even without Sunu, Freeman, Frimpong!

  77. rico says:

    Hi Andy

I think Freeman will be in there too, it was interesting that he was added to the CL squad..

Do you think we will keep Simpson?

  78. Mark c says:

    Hi RICO.

There should be a clear out this summer.

Randall simpson hoyte senderos fabianski Gilbert murphy will all leave.

Some of the young ones could be good squad players but perhaps only Gibbs will break into first team next season.

Arshavin is important to the progression of wilshire they are very similar.

  79. K-TR7 says:

Walcott really needs to sort his final ball.he looks class on the ball but his composure lets him down.i feel he is more of a cr9/messi than valencia type of winger.he has the finishing in him(villareal)although he needs a goal to gain confidence.on saturday he showed he still knows how to utilise his pace but his final ball needs to a fully fit squad i would expect a forward line of AA RVP Theo.nasri/morzart are bit similar to shava but theo adds a whole new dimension.

  80. rico says:

Hey Mark, I wrote a post not long ago suggesting we had a bit of a clear out, my word did I get a few on here slating my views…

Afternoon KTR7, I think right now is a big time for him, if he stays fit and plays through until the end of the seaon there will be no excuses for crap play ..

  81. chris says:

    Andy –
Ramsay won’t play (and you’ve missed out Eastmond and Watt)
and that team won’t get close to winning the CCup imo

Still very good to see the reserves who are looking more and more like last year’s youth team without the star names starting to do really well –

Like everyone says, it’s not about winning it’s about finding players for the first team – so who’s really knocking on the door?

Lansbury not this year imo doesn’t really stand out for Watford quite enough (but a lot better than Gavin Hoyte) still nice to heaar AW saying good things about his chances
Wilshere I guess – it would be nice to see him play a bit for Bolton though, anyone can see he’s class but I’m just starting to get a few worries
Eastmond possibly – AW’s still been giving him chances so he must be close to the first team squad
Gibbs must have a great chance but LB’s still very competitive
Sczcesny – everyone’s got him bolted on and you think he must have a chance next year – he was getting time in the friendlies this year and even after mannone’s great game against WHam AW was still talking as if he had a chance
Watt – played well in the Emirates Cup and got some game time so should be given a chance to show what he can do – can’t see it yet though short of mass injuries
Bartley – should have a chance of squad placce next year – mainly cos CB’s a big opportunity imo and he played and looked ok in Greece
Don’t give the other lads that much chance yet maybe Coquelin/Frimpong again they’d need injuries
Too soon for Afobe I think but close to the squad

So hardly anyone then again – On the up side competition at reserves level is looking to get white hot and building at first team level

  82. chris says:

Missed out JET and Simpson (sorry)
JET’s super interesting although he always looks so lazy to me, he’s got somthing the others haven’t got CCup and see how it goes, I guess
Simpson’s a tryer but he’ll need to keep improving

  83. K-TR7 says:

The youngsters will be fine.we need cesc back firing asap!if we are to have a chance at the title.didn’t cesc pick his fifth yellow on saturday making him absent for stoke?AA firing on all cylinders would surely win us the title.

  84. rico says:

    Hi chris, good comment..

I am not sure Bolton was the best club for Jack to progress, much rather he had gone to the Hammers, Watford or even Reading.

  85. rico says:

Erick, we need more than AA firing, we need the likes of Nik, Theo, Clichy and Sagna to step up a gear…

Dudu to, he is meant tobe fit for the weekend.

  86. K-TR7 says:

I meant AA in the mood lifts the whole team lifts and suddenly shots are flying and crossbars rattled.imagine him, cesc, morzart, clichy, nasri, theo and sagna start firing?the title would be ours hands chamack in action today in the cl and make your own conclusions.

  87. rico says:

KTR7, I am sorry, I referred to you as Erick, I am having a bad day, orry 😦

I am off to watch chamakh too, the big telling moment πŸ˜‰

  88. W.A.T.H says:

he’d only been on pitch a min

  99. W.A.T.H says:

Saw a little of chamuck last year and didnt rate him at all def not what we need………… average…!

    But free…………..!!

Mancs always batter spammers up there spammers usually lay down n die though…!

  100. managed to just switch over the goals so didn’t see game

    another squad player wath πŸ˜‰

  101. W.A.T.H says:

We got enough “kids” as squad players hence why we don’t need him. We all know what we need just remains to be seen if AW pulls his thumb out his arse and nuy the right players and sell a few lightweights as well while he at it…!

  102. maybe we should get this guy when wenger goes next year

  103. we cant afford the wage bill waf

  104. W.A.T.H says:

    That’s piss funny…………..

  105. W.A.T.H says:

We can afford lots more than ppl think we just 2 tight to spend it…!

  106. and you can bring your dinner

  107. its just the wage bill i dont think we can buy a 40mil player with 10% sign on and then 80k a week
depends on the shirt sales i guess

  108. W.A.T.H says:

We got plenty under the bed for players and wages dont u worry :-), right I’m off chat 2moro….!

  109. avenell says:
