Swap one Phil for another?? Galindo signing confirmed! ……………..

Our Big Phil wants out, we all know that, and rumours are still around that David Moyes wants him at Everton – and need another top notch defender to be there in case TV or Gallas get injured. I know we have Silvestre and Big Sol but if either Gallas or Vermaelen suffered a long term injury would they have the legs to play every two or three days?

Why don’t we be really cheeky and try and do a deal for Phil Jagielka at the same time, we could even offer another player in the same deal – maybe Almunia? Now I know I can’t go wrong with that suggestion……

Just a thought…..

Only a couple of days ago when discussing the ‘D’ word, someone mentioned that Mark Randall seldom goes out on loan, if at all – so spooky that yesterday he signed up for MK Dons for the rest of the season. Great move for him, playing under a tough old beast like Paul Ince, if he can’t teach him a good old fashioned tough tackle, I don’t know who can – this I think will be make or break – like Big Raddy I think it’s the latter, but I am all for being proved wrong.

He goes straight into the squad to face Hartlepool, so let’s hope he scores the winning goal against a side supported by Jeff Stelling, one of many Sky Sports pundits who think we have no chance of winning anything this season!

Also out on loan for the rest of the season, and going Posh is Kerrea Gilbert.

Suggestion is that Kyle Bartley, Craig Eastmond, Gilles Sunu and Sanchez Watt could all be following him out the door on loan – in order to allow the likes of Oguzhan Ozyakup and Ignasi Miquel to step up to the Reserves.

Just as we were all getting excited about this new kid who was supposed to be signing soon, Sergio Canales – our old boss has poured cold water all over the story when asked if it was true.

“No,” said Wenger at his press conference when asked about links with Canales. He added: “I can only say no because it is no.”

Anyone believe him? Me neither! Do you remember Jim on Vicar of Dibley? Me too, this story definitely has a yes to it!

Arsene has Cesc and Clichy are back in the squad for Sunday, that’s great news, Walcott still has an injury – I just wish the latter would get fit and get a good run of games – he needs it and so do all of us. I want us all to see that ‘Liverpool run’ a few more times this season, maybe the critics will change their opinion then, but not until then I guess…

No more than two weeks for Theo says Arsene – mme we will see 😉

During an interview on AFC.com, Wenger hinted that a need for new blood still remained.

“Let’s say that Bendtner’s return would put us less in a position of need, but if we still find a bargain you never know. With Robin van Persie still missing we just might be in need of somebody.”
Does that make anyone else think we could see a last minute signing? Might that just make you stay up until midnight on the 31st January?

Suggestion in that Nik is now out until February!!

We have been linked with:-

Osasuna defender Cesar Azpilicueta, he is 20yrs old and would cost around £12M, so I can’t see any truth in this one.

Ex Birmingham City forward Mauro Zarate, he is valued higher than Azpilicueta.

Milos Krasic – CSKA Moscow winger has turned down Citeh saying he wants to play for Manure or us.

Imagine if we got all three – would we be happy?

The signing of Bolivian midfielder Samuel Galindo from Real America for an undisclosed fee has now been confirmed on AFC.Com – but he will go straight out loan overseas.

Finally, yesterday an old boy of Arsenal finally signed on the dotted line until the end of the season and talking of old boys, one of our bloggers has become a year older today.

He shares his birthday with many, one is an ex spud, Martin Jol, another is a model, Kate Moss, but the most significant is Nikki ‘pink boots’ Bendtner….

Added to them, about a year ago Avenell Road was set up – so happy birthday to Avenell Road too, you have come a long way. That is down to all of us, owners, writers and bloggers alike. Here’s to another successful year ahead.

Last though, but not least Many Happy Returns Kelsey, he has been posting on Avenell Road since the beginning – 40th is it ??????? 😛

  6. rico says:

Moring kelsey, Ah, I shall have to have a word with peaches 😉

  7. W.A.T.H says:

I have seen ur a bit of a “Jag” lover rico…….. my response would be no chance 🙂 Saha maybe if that’s what AW wants but noway they’d let “Jag” go…! Not so sure I want him either if I was honest, very good played but We got TV similar just better, we need a 22/23yr old WG…!

  8. rico says:

They are a bit to big for me wath, more of a Merc person myself if I could afford one 😉

He would be expensive too I guess as he’s English 😦
I think he would be great though, he and JD (eventually) as our back up for next season..

  9. JonJon says:

    morning peeps…

sorry havent been about much…got alot on at the minute…

nice one rico…i think sol will replace senderos…

im really hoping for reinforcements though..signing a couple of 17 year olds isnt good enough…

and replacements arent good enough either..we need reinforcements..extra players..not bringing sol in to replace phillipe phallope…

  10. W.A.T.H says:

Going back a day ot two considering we hopefully get JD back for next season, what about “Jag’ getting in the way of Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling…? 🙂 just a twist on the buying “jag” thought…! Merc’s are crap in snow tho rico…. lol…….!

  11. W.A.T.H says:

    Mornin JJ……….

Think AW comments re Bendy being two weeks away and then a week lata still two weeks away tells a story…! I think a striker is def on the cards…! but we all kno full well he won’t be paying more than a fiver for him plus a few tesco’s vouchers………!

  12. rico says:

    Morning JJ

But I can dream we will sign a top defender can’t I? 😉

wath, do you think Bartley and Ayling are near to a first team chance?

But I do think we will get a striker, Nik out until Feb? Then he has to get match fit etc – March is more like it.

Pedro on LG has just suggested that ex Wigan player Zaki has had a medical at a PL side with the view of a loan? Us maybe?

    Big beast, 6’1 and quick!

  13. W.A.T.H says:

Not sure if either Bartley or Ayling are close to a first team chance to be honest but I ain’t AW and I don’t see them day in day out in training so who know’s…! Think both of them need to put on a bit of meat but both have good traits to be very good centre half’s…! I like Ayling reminds me just a little of Bouldy in the way he reads the game… if half as good I’ll be happy…!. Zaki……….. r u smoking something rico…????????

  14. rico says:

I have a feeling the Dippers are going to be taught a lesson at Stoke 🙂 🙂

  15. rico says:

Just keeping the gossip updated, what is wrong with him then, I am off to Wikki 😉

  16. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters…

Rico.. glad you have your quill fixed..

    Just a quick hello/goodbye..
I am out for a few hours, I hope to be back for at least the late game.. 😦

  17. rico says:

Ah, he is the bad boy that didn’t return to Wigan 😉 I see now….

  18. Irishgunner says:

    Zaki is off to Hull

  19. rico says:

    Morning ave, cheeky 😉

I have to go out to this morning… 😦

  20. Mustang says:

    Morning Rico and all,

good post. Although I would say don’t worry about writing a “safe” post, if you have an opinion about our club write it and don’t worry about being controversial, you are entitled to have an opinion. If people don’t like it so be it! We cannot be silence just because it will hurt the feelings of fans with rose tinted glasses.
I may not agree with an opinion or two, but I will defend till death your right to have them.
    Well done, keep it up!

  21. rico says:

Morning Mustang, that is very kind of you 🙂

Hard hats back soon then 😉

  22. rico says:

Hi Irish, that’s him off the list then..

  23. Irishgunner says:

He started well at Wigan but faded and seems to be trouble, tends to get itchy feet. Be good for Hull short term though.

Anyone thinks Wenger may shock everyone and sign Van Nistelrooy or someone like that?

  24. rico says:

Saha Irish – Thats my thought, and in the Senderos deal..

  25. Irishgunner says:

Would Everton allow it? If Everton lose Saha who have they up front?

  26. Mustang says:

someone like that maybe, but not RVN too much history and bad blood, but then again, like you said: “shock everyone”…….

  27. W.A.T.H says:

RVN hates Arsenal could never see him coming to us….! Plus we won’t pay him his silly wages either. I’m with rico on the Saha thing he does tick a lot of boxes for shortish term AND most of all injury prone so you just know that’s a plus !!

  28. W.A.T.H says:

Allo n goodbye Ave, Have a good day fella…!

  29. Big Raddy says:

    Morning Rico. Another fine post.

I agree with Mustang. Be controversial.

Like your dislike of “Our Nik” !!

I would like to look at the loan arrangements. I believe it is purely a way of getting players some pitch time prior to shipping them out, A way of advertising their talents. Of the players who have gone on loan, how many have become first team regulars? Nik B. Song, and …… ?

Were Clichy, Fabregas ,Denilson, Theo, RvP etc sent out ?

Will it benefit JW to get kicked from pillar to post at Brentford? (Different for a GK).

Does anyone imagine that Simpson will become a regular at THOF? He is doing well on loan, but we have a CF crisis and he is not even called back. What message does that give the boy?

If Randall believes this is for Arsenal’s benefit, he must be more stupid than he looks, (which is pretty stupid!!)

  30. Irishgunner says:

Yep Mustang that’s what I think

WATH – I don’t mean RVN necessarily but someone of his ilk, someone experienced and near careers end. With Campbell, Wenger is only plugging a gap, its short term, very short term, I can see a very short term striker coming in too cos he believes in RvP, Bendtner and Eddie long term.

  31. JonJon says:

    yeah WATH…lol

i would of liked wenger to have moved early though…
we have like 5million scouts worldwide or something ridiculuos like that and rvp been injured since november…weve also got a shit load of cash…so i see no reason for the hold up…

i know theres a recession hitting football and all but weve been saving all our money while other teams have been spending theres like theirs no tomorrow..one would have thought that we have an advantage in the transfer windows into todays climate…

but its just like wenger to hold on to the last minutes to haggle the price down..i just hope we dont have another alonso scenario where we wait too long, put all our eggs into one basket and get told no…

  32. avenell says:

Cheers guys .. I am out the door now..

Raddy I was told that Simpson is bait for a youngster that we are after from QPR.. cannot remember his name.

  33. avenell says:

Jonjon I need a match report or three out of you.. our no1 is out of town..

  34. rico says:

Thanks Raddy, re Nik, I want him to come good, I promise 😉

RVN – No thanks for me either, I can just about put up with Silvestre, but that was a b*****d to us, and such a cheat!!

I have to pop out and re-home a chicken 😦

See you all in a while..

  35. Irishgunner says:

I think that is Raheem Sterling or something like that Avenell Raheem something or other anyway

  36. Big Raddy says:

RvN. 5 years ago definitely. He has been a fantastic player but if we are to have a forward who doesn’t get games for Real, why not Raul? Good for him, good for us, good for the EPL to have such a huge star.

    Fantasy I know…..

  37. Irishgunner says:

Don’t see Raul ever leaving Madrid BR – he has it in his contract that if he starts 10 games a season he is automatically entitled to another year, something like that so he is pretty much guaranteed fan favourite too

  38. W.A.T.H says:

Agree with you Irish a striker of RVN’s ilk BUT def NOT that piece of dung…! Told you rico rehouse the chicken with me… Will do just fine 4 lunch 2moro 🙂

Ur right JJ so much cash and AW lookin bargain basement yet again AND why wasn’t someone snapped up first few days of Jan..? Not like RVP and Bendy “just” got injured is it….

  39. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

    Informatibe post rico 😉

I agree with Raddy’s view earlier that players that go out on loan and are more likely to be ‘in the shop window’ than they are to get into the first team in the future – you only have to look at players like J Hoyte. Maybe AW is thinking along the lines of releasing some of the less promising players.

If anyone should by RVN it is pool …. they are in crisis and won’t have a proper striker for a month at least … he can’t come to us – too much bad blood.

I see Eboue got himself sent off in the ACN .. who said he was maturing? … he’ll always be a big kid, but his natural exuberance is part of ghis game.

  40. Frank victor says:

it is a true fact that arsenal is a legendary team that has quiet a history and a philosophy to stand up to… it is memoir gift that we fans should not only remain funs but become patriots and form a back bone for ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!

  41. Rasputin says:

Not very good for my ego!! … one comment from me and everyone goes away 🙄

  42. Mustang says:

one player I have out on loan I have high hopes for is Lansbury, unless his development goes backwards…….

  43. Frank victor says:

  44. Big Raddy says:

I would love to see Lansbury develop, I just don’t see where he fits into the team. Like you I really rate him, but doesn’t he play the Ramsey role? In which case AW clearly rates AR in front of HL. And as we have a glut of attacking MF’s …….. etc etc.

  45. W.A.T.H says:

Sorry Rasp, wasn’t you lol……….. Just in and out at the moment…… Cant see RVN going to the dippers either, can they afford his wages as well 🙂 As you say comes atime when the gotta draw a line in the sand with some of the young ones and decide who you keep and who you let go, law of averages dictates your going to let a few go who will go on to be very good players BUT can’t keep em all !.

  46. kelsey says:

Interestiing debate about players that go out on loan, actually coming back as first team regulars.Raddy made the point about Song, and he really is the exception.Bedntner is a full international yet is still to command a regular first team spot.
We have him, theo, carlos and ramsey all impact subs,or cameo role players, and I would think that within a year or so only ramsey will definitely make it.

No one knows how many games we will get out of Eduardo and Rosicky, and as others I think Sol is a short term signing not so much to play but to bring education and experience to the younger players.he has been training with us for 2 months, and as a stop gap AW feels he is better than the late lamented senderos.
All we need is a decent keeper(which we won’t get) and a flamini type player,a tiger on the pitch IMO

  47. Davi says:

Why would you want phil jagielka?
Id sooner swap senderos for fellaini plus £20m to be honest. That guy would solve all our problems even if he is a bit over the top. No different from vieira though imo

  48. London says:

    Morning Roadsters

I think I am the one guilty of suggesting that Eboue was maturing. Although, I must admit that after watching that tackle and the heap of trouble it got his country into, I might have to reconsider my view.

  49. Irishgunner says:

Will Eboue get a 3 match ban? Would that rule him out of the tourney? Maybe he just wants to be back at the Arsenal 🙂

  50. Davi says:

    Overkill on the eboue challenge.
It was a stpid challenge but the red was still a little harsh imo.
He went in early thinking it was there to be won, but the guy turned his body so eboue couldnt avoid piling into him – just one of those things. Eboue pulled out a bit as well so it wasnt as dangerous as it could have been.

  51. Irishgunner says:

Liverpool: Reina, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Insua, Degen, Lucas, Mascherano, Aurelio, Kuyt, Ngog.

Is there a creative player in that starting XI???

  52. London says:

It was a two footed challenge and one of the most obvious red cards I have seen in ages. I like the idea of defending Arsenal players but it might be a good time to give the old red and white tinted glasses a bit of a clean.

  53. rico says:

Hi London – have you finally cast yours aside 😉 😉

  54. Davi says:

London – do you think there was intent to hurt the guy then?

  55. rico says:

Got to pop off again, catch you later

  56. Davi says:

I mean, I can accept the disagreement over the red card (it wasnt 2-footed in the dangerous sense btw, where you have 2 straight legs applying force in the same direction), but i dont think you can look at that and call it malicious. Stupid, yes, but not malicious.
Also that ref gave a penalty to ghana for nothing, and didnt have the best of games

  57. Irishgunner says:

    take that ya cheat 😆

  58. Irishgunner says:

The ESPN commentators are a pile of piss.

“Rafa must feel the world is against him. First a nothing penalty was given against Benayoun and then Lucas could have got a penalty on another day”

    Give me a bloody break

  59. Mustang says:

Can someone please tell me what Jeff Stelling has against Sol Campbell?

  60. Davi says:

That dive is exactly what rooney did to us this year. Andy gray said lucas should have had a pen because “there’s no rule that says you have to jump their legs”, but if you dont at least try to avoid the challenge, all you are doing is trying to gain a pen, trying to deceive the ref.
Its like outside the box where you knock the ball past a defender and then run into him. Usually you dont get the freekick, or at least it is generally considered that that isnt a foul.
I used to like andy gray 😦

  61. Irishgunner says:

Davi – Its exactly what Rooney does every time. Lucas, like Rooney, went down before the contact so its a dive in my book as you said.

And how was Benayoun’s not a penalty? You can’t kick someone in the heel in the box and not expect to give away a foul.

This also must be one of the worst games in a long time. Hoof, hoof, hoof and then to top it off??? HOOF!!!!

  62. Irishgunner says:

I’m not wasting my eyes on this rubbish anymore – Stoke vs Liverpool that is – is it too much to ask that Stoke overrun and humiliate Liverpool and then are too elated to turn up next week and we over-run them with the kids?

    Seems so!!!

Catch ye tomorrow for our game.

  63. Irishgunner says:

eeeeeeeeemh or maybe I’ll stay up… I’m kinda hoping Stoke will score a 93rd minute winner

    Stay up or not???!!

  64. London says:

The question as to whether Eboue intended to hurt the player is neither here nor there, the fact is that it was a two footed lunge, which, as the rules stand, is a red card offence.

  65. Irishgunner says:

Is there a video of the Eboue tackle anywhere?

  66. Irishgunner says:

Just seen it – letter of the law a red but a lot get away with it

  67. Irishgunner says:

  68. at any other club in the country, rafa would have been sacked a while back.

  69. Irishgunner says:

T’was worth staying up for despite been one of the worst games in the history of mankind.

I actually like Rafa – think he is inoffensive compared to the alcee at Yanited but his time must be up.

  70. anybody against the sol signing.. needs to remember that under arsene we won the double in 98 with steveie bould at the heart of defence.. and he was 36 at the time.

  71. Irishgunner says:

Sol moved from the Spuds to us for free and won titles – how can we not like him ha ha

Okay he left under a tad of a cloud but it was to Pompey not to a rival

  72. London says:

Cant see much reason to watch MOTD tonight.

  73. Rasputin says:

Its a relief to go into tomorrow’s game still in 3rd place and potentially into 2nd if we win on wednesday.

Tony Cascarino reckons we have the best chance of winning the prem with the weakest ever AW side … what a ……………….

  74. London says:

You took the………right out of my mouth

  75. if we win both our games against bolton, rasputin

we go TOP of the league.. as long as along the way we beat bolton with a +4 goal difference over the 2 games.

  76. also.. regardless of spuds or city winning today.. we would have remained 3rd

    it helps neither won.

  77. Big Raddy says:

Chelsea were superb today, admittedly playing a weakened Sunderland. And once again Anelka showed us what we missed by not signing him in ’07.

And Everton showed us that it was a point gained not 2 lost last week. They are looking very good, and will be a handful for an team. That said, I remain convinced that had Song played, we would have beaten them.

The Spuds? Starting their slide into mediocrity, methinks!

Please Arsene, sign a forward, I don’t expect someone of Anelka’s quality, though that would be fantastic, just someone who can give us a lift in the run-in. We go into the big games coming up without a recognised CF which is madness for a club so close to success.

  78. rico says:

Poo day and sorry for abandoning AR 😦

    See you tomorrow sometime all….

    Stay safe,

    Nighty night

  79. wow, just heard a right call on 606 from a manc

apparently a section of the stretford end were ejected from the ground for singing anti-glazer songs

  80. kelsey says:

    Good Morning all.

Raddy I concur with your last paragraph and it would be nice to let Almunia sit on the bench and give Fabianski a chance.

Stringfellow Hawke, just had a look round at a cultured sight and your comments advertising your own site, don’t apply to Avenell Road. I think I speak for most of us that we do not wish to be labelled a particular category of supporter on here.

We have a good balance of views and debate, and sometimes a layed back way of having some banter, which you are fully aware of.The last thing Ave and co want is to make comparisons to other sites.I am sure you understand.Thanks.

  81. rico says:

    new post

  82. Kelsey… did i label this site a particular category of supporter?
