Tomas is back, D-Day for Nikki and Cesc is ready to Bolt!

Hoo-bloomin-Rah!!

Tomas is fit again and raring to go, he is ready for the game against The Toffees at the weekend and I can’t wait – I rate the man, he has just reassured his wife that she can continue to shop in the same way with a new contract and mega bucks, and Saturday is his first day of payback time, to the club and fans alike.

Must be a day for great news as Cesc will be back for the Bolton game on the 17th January, so the torch is beginning to shine a bit of brightness again – until now it has always felt like every time we saw light at the end of the tunnel of injuries, it turned out to be some bastard with a torch, and the batteries were Tesco’s, not Duracell!!

I know we have only missed a mid-week fixture but it feels like it has been ages since we beat The Hammers – I feel deprived, I need my football fix, well, Arsenal fix!

Can I just slip in a well done to the boys in South Africa – great result…

Today perhaps could turn out to be pivotal in relation to whether or not our boss truly goes into the transfer window to buy a striker. Nikki ‘pink boots’ Bendtner has a fitness test on his groin injury and if turns out to be ‘a little bit short’ then we are off to get a striker – maybe Traore, maybe Cole – either would make me pretty pleased!

Come on Nikki; fail your test – PLEASE!! 😉

Our last game in the Premiership was against Pompey, we won 4-1 with a team of:-

Almunia
Sagna Gallas TV Traore
Ramsey Song Diaby
Nasri Arshavin Eduardo

Tomorrow we have no Song so I guess the team will be just the same, but with Denilson in to replace Song – can we beat them the way we did at Goodison?

I think so….

However, with Tomas the Tank being fit and ready to play, I wonder if the boss will put him in from the off instead of Nasri or Diaby? My guess he will be on the bench with Ramsey, ready and waiting, chomping at the bit to come on and get the sixth goal for us 😉

A new player for the team in blue is a chap called Donavan. There was me, all set to start writing about Mickey Most, Sunshine Superman and Neighbours, but then it dawned on me that this guy is from the States; he is a footballer and is on loan during the break in America! He will be keen to make his mark but to be fair, he will not be used to the ‘English’ way and it will take him a few games to settle. Big Willy and TV the Nut Crusher (thanks peaches) will eat him for afternoon tea – or maybe even chew him up like a ‘soft centre’ 🙂

All that is left is a round up from the semi-skimmed paps….

Arsene is said to be hot on the heels of Lazio’s Argentinean striker Mauro Zarate, the player’s agent is claiming that Arsenal have been in contact.

“I am in touch with Arsenal,” Jose Alberto Coppola, the players agent said!! Like I said yesterday, I don’t like agents – they are like the red herring in Silent Witness – liars through to their core!!

Big Sol is going to be offered a short term option to help the defence out if Senderos leaves, and the paps say the latter is very likely!

Ivan says there is money to spend, but not silly amounts and just for a second this morning while listening to him on Sky Sports News I thought he must have been reading Avenell Road over the last few days – he said that in relation to Arsene Wenger, he expects him to soon have an extension 🙂

I love Nigel Winterburn, always have done, today he has told the Daily Express that Man Citeh new boy, sorry old man Paddy that he thinks he is over the hill and passed it!! And so say all of us! Maybe Paddy does still love us and he is just moving to make sure he keeps Citeh off our backs.

Have a nice day you all ……

    Morning Roadsters…

  2. rico says:

I didn’t bother to include any Cesc stuff because I dont believe any of it 🙂

  3. DKD says:

DONT UNDERESTIMATE DONOVAN …….HES ONE HELL OF A PLAYER…THOUGH IT MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO SETTLE HE CAN GIVE OUR DEFENDERS A TOUGH TIME..

  4. rico says:

Morning DKD, please mind your language on here, I have left you on and edited your comment – thanks.

Your views are valued just please put them across a little calmer 😉

  5. stonroy says:

    Rico is this your blog?

  6. Fred says:

No way in a million will Arsene start with Diaby on the bench. I assume he will start alongside Denilson and with either Ramsey or Rosicky. The attacking three will probably be the same as against pompey.

  7. rico says:

Morning stonroy, no, I just help out with a few posts and look after the naughty comments until avenell or JonJon are around 🙂

  8. rico says:

Morning Fred, I don’t think he will either, Diaby is in the form of his life right now…

  9. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

Thanks for today’s episode of the ‘Chronicles of rico’, great stuff …. 😉

Like I said yesterday, the signing of CC or Traore should have nothing to do with Nik’s fitness since neither would be able to play an effective role for us sooner than Nik (unless he’s out of the season). I said that I thought that a Sylvestre -type sugning was likely to be our only acquisition and Sol may just be that…..

  10. alfamilano says:

Morning all. Its snowing in North London again…

Never mind Pep Guardiola not signing his contract unless Barcelona bid for Cesc, I reckon Arsene would leave if the board sold Cesc now.

  11. rico says:

    Morning Rasp, and thanks

The striker situation should be straight forward really shouldn’t it – either he wants cover for Robin, or he he doesn’t.- Nik is short term unless AW is not truthing us..

Im not sure on the Sol thing 😦

  12. rico says:

Morning alfa, Ivan said this morning Cesc is going nowhere for a long time

  13. alfamilano says:

    Rasp

I agree re Cole but maybe Traore is a bet for next season and beyond. It’s not just about Nikki’s fitness but is he ever going to be a world class big target man. I think he has the belief and just this season was starting to look more likely – better ball control, better decision making, but he still has a long way to go. What do you think?

He already has the lairy boots of course, so that’s one box ticked. We’ll know he’s made it to the top when kids are ordering their Nike x-pro terminators in ‘Bendtner Pink’

  14. rico says:

alfa, I’m not a big fan of Nikki’s, and a Cole or Traore signing would make an old gal like me very happy 😉

  15. rico says:

Liverpool have done a good bit of business over Dossenna, they paid £8M for him 2008 and are now selling him for £4.5M 🙂

    Good old Rafa

  16. hh says:

wats the chances of the match being called of tomorrow

  17. rico says:

Morning hh, i know this sounds a bit obvious but I think if it doesn’t snow it will be on..

  18. rico says:

The Dippers are in for Chamakh…

  19. W.A.T.H says:

Morning rico and all… funny post rico and not a mention of size anywhere….! I doubt with all the snow about the game will go ahead 2moro but lets hope it thaws a little…! please I don’t want soul…. and as 4 Paddy well have lost a little respect for the man….! yes I know its about money but where’s his self respect…?

  20. W.A.T.H says:

The problem is the snow turned to ice rico not the snow….!

  21. rico says:

Morning WATH, not even the ‘Wenger extension’ – that was just for you 😉

  22. rico says:

But if there is no snow, there is snow ice 😉

  23. W.A.T.H says:

Thank u darlin 😉 oh so subtle as usual…!

  24. London says:

    Morning Rico

I really enjoyed today’s roundup, in particular this made me chuckle:

“(Rosicky) has just reassured his wife that she can continue to shop in the same way”

  25. rico says:

    Tee Hee

  26. rico says:

Morning London, Its the way I tell em 😉

  27. W.A.T.H says:

I see you oh so nearly put the jinx on the cricket yesterday rico….. still only lost 5 wickets she said………! Hmmmmmmmmmm…! I doubt Tomas will start 2moro if the games on, that cold weather wont be to good for his poor groin problem…. no comment for u pls rico 😉

  28. rico says:

    ‘no comment’ WATH 😉

  29. London says:

    Morning Wath

I’m looking out the window, the roads are clear and the sun is shinning, if there is no further snow, I don’t see any reason why the game won’t go ahead.

  30. W.A.T.H says:

Mornin London, can’t see the snow being a prob its just the ice and where ppl have to walk etc and will they give the game the go ahead re health n safety certificate..?? That’s the problem…!

  31. London says:

    Morning Alfa

I thought this was clever, the power of the statement jumped out at me, it’s the first time I had thought about things this way around:

“Never mind Pep Guardiola not signing his contract unless Barcelona bid for Cesc, I reckon Arsene would leave if the board sold Cesc now.”

  32. London says:

    Wath

I expect the club to have summond more grit than there was when Adams and Keown were playing.

  33. W.A.T.H says:

London, Shame on you…. You left Bouldy out…..!!!

  34. alfamilano says:

London, I’m sure neither Cesc nor Arsene is going to leave, but I get a real sense that ‘this time it’s personal’. We’ve got the team to win the league. It’s what Arsene and the whole club have been working at for 4 years – get back to where the Invincibles were. We are financially stable, the kids are coming through and turning into major world players, while Cesc, RvP and maybe a couple of others are already there. We and Barcelona play the beautiful game better than anyone else. Of course we have got some weaknesses but so has everyone else. We can lose to the power game, or if we lose concentration. But so what – every team in Europe fears us now. No one is bigger or better than us.

When you battle to get yourself to the front of the race, why choose that moment to give up? Come on Arsenal!

  35. London says:

    Alfa

You are preaching to the converted.

  36. London says:

    Wath

Your right, shame on me, he’s got no hair but we don’t care Stevie, Stevie Bould.

  37. rico says:

Got to pop off for a bit, back soon 😦

  38. W.A.T.H says:

I gotta pull you up on one thing Alfa…. plenty teams “bigger” than us…. 😉 we a team of powder puff midgets…!

  39. W.A.T.H says:

    wrap up warm rico…

  40. alfamilano says:

Sorry for the preaching 🙂 Got carried away there.

For what it’s worth I think the match will be on tomorrow, because it is mid-afternoon rather than evening so the trains, buses and roads are more likely to still be running at the end of the match.

  41. W.A.T.H says:

One of my fav’s London, always loved Stevie B……

  42. Edmond Dantes says:

    Morning everyone

Just on the striker situation, I would much prefer Chamakh to Cole or the Ivorian lad. I would be extremely surprised if we go for Zarate or Higuain as reports have suggested. Arsene is very predictable, in that, he will not spend massive amounts of money. Everybody knows that. I don’t even know why the tabloids even bother with their sensational stories.

  43. alfamilano says:

WATH, we aren’t back to the ‘inches’ debate again are we? 🙂

Taking your point seriously for a second, because I am a bit of a sad geek, Lionel Messi is 5’5″. Dani Alves is 5’8″. Iniesta 5’7″. Xabi 5.7″.

We aren’t the only team of munchkins.

  44. alfamilano says:

Apols if I just offended anyone under 6′ 😦

  45. alfamilano says:

    Or any munchkins 😦 😦

  46. W.A.T.H says:

Well least we could discuss size without rico getting all excited Alfa, and yes ur right those players aren’t exactly the biggest but they supplemented by bigger/taller players we really only got Bendy and Song who are tallish…! Willy G and TV are not small but also hardly big lumps and hence we get stuffed physically when it comes to the chavs…! one or two lumps is all we need though or a few more of the “kids” to bulk up, read that Ramsey had grown 2 inches in the last 12 months, hope he shoots up another 2 in the next twelve months then he’s a decent size…! also puts himself about.

  47. W.A.T.H says:

Think u might of upset Mr Arshavin he didnt even get a mention Alfa 😉

  48. W.A.T.H says:

    He’s 5 foot 4……….. he’s 5 foot 4……….. 🙂

  49. Edmond Dantes says:

What Arsenal definitely need is another good CB. We can get away with an injury crisis up-front, because the goals are spread out all over the team. If Gallas or Vermaelen get injured, we will be in big trouble. Song could play in defence, but he’s been doing so well in midfield, why change it? So I hope Arsenal get a new CB soon.

On a personal note, I belong to the AWAS. On Sunday morning we don’t go to church, instead we hold our own service in honour of Arsene.
One song that we are particularly fond of is, “There’s only one Arsene Wenger.” We just substitute it in for Guantanamera, Guajira Guantanamera.

  50. London says:

    Alfa

That was preaching as in we are both singing from the same hymn sheet 😉

  51. alfamilano says:

Edmond, agree we do need another CB. And as WATH says taller than TV and WilliG although somehow TV seems to play bigger than he really is.

I’m guessing you are a long way away? Spain, LatAm? and don’t get to the games. You’ll be pleased to know we normally manage to sing your song at least once.

  52. Edmond Dantes says:

A bit of history: My good mate the Abbe Busoni has founded AWAS. He is an ardent devotee of Arsene. He’s originally from Rome. He was expelled from his church because of alleged drunken orgies and the like. He has vehemently denied those claims. But the church hushed the whole thing up. So really we should not call him “Abbe.” Anyway, he’s one of the most hardcore supporters I know.

  53. Edmond Dantes says:

alfa. Im based in South Africa at the moment. I do sometimes hear the song ringing around the stadium when I watch on tele. Keep it up.

  54. alfamilano says:

You guys certainly get about. Did the venerable Abbe used to attend matches with Osama Bin Laden? They must have been in Islington around the same time.

  55. W.A.T.H says:

    Alfa……..

  56. W.A.T.H says:

    🙂

  57. Edmond Dantes says:

He did mention something to me in passing about a chance meeting that he once had with Osama. He was very much reluctant to speak further on the matter. So Im guessing he has quite a shady past. I will meet him on Saturday to watch the Everton game. He dresses up in his black robe with the white collar to watch the games at the local bar.

  58. alfamilano says:

We will sing a special benediction for the Abbe if we can, and for all dedicated Arsenal fans who are watching from afar. 🙂

I envy you the warm weather in South Africa at the moment.

  59. Davi says:

The only difficulty with this fixture as opposed to last time, is fellaini. In the last game song bullied him and wouldnt let him gain a foothold in the match until it was too late. Along with pienaar id say fellaini is their best player, so song’s contribution was pretty significant.
That said I think ramsey and diaby can add a bit of toughness to the midfield so hopefully that will swing things in our favour.
I really hope vela doesnt lose his place. He never gets rewarded for playing well, and he was excellent in the last game after he was moved out to the left. Id go with vela, eduardo and arshavin up front.
It would be easier to fit carlos in if denilson was injured to be honest cos nasri could take a spot in midfield. We’ll see what happens

  60. London says:

    Davi

So what is your guess at Wenger’s team tomorrow?

  61. rico says:

Brrrr – its cold out there…

Game still on then, a big test I think, without Song and Cesc

  62. W.A.T.H says:

I’ll warm you up rico………… flask of tea on its way 😉

  63. rico says:

    No sugar thanks WATH 😆

  64. rico says:

Can’t believe our game isn’t off yet, I think only ten have survived in all the leagues so far

  65. hh says:

hope the match is on because this is a good time to play them with all their injuries

  66. rico says:

Nikki B is back in two weeks! Little Jack is out…

  67. alfamilano says:

    Davi
good point about Vela. I have been disappointed this season but to be fair he was much better on the wing and we have to give him a chance.

  68. London says:

Rico, I am not too far from the ground and looking out of the window the sun is shinning, the ice is melting and I cannot see why on earth the game would be off.

  69. rico says:

That’s good news London, we have the same weather here, the thaw has defiantely set in. I guess it now depends on the temperature overnight and if the roads/pavements around the ground are safe to travel on…

Most of the other London based games are off, but then don’t have a large hot water bottle under the surface 🙂

  70. London says:

Ok my guess at Wenger’s team tomorrow

    ———-Almunia
    Sagna,Gallas,Vermaelen,Traore
    —Diaby,Denilson,Rosicky
    —-Nasri,Arshavin,Eduardo

I think he will start with Rosicky over Ramsey because of the greater defensive experience that the Czech Captain offers.

Come to think about it, that is exactly the team I would like to see start. Ramsey can come on as can Vela and give us a little something extra if and when we need it.

  71. rico says:

2nd half v West ham, Vela was pretty darn good

Paddy I/V on sky sports news now

  72. rico says:

Paddy – you are such a liar, you did not go to Citeh because they are ambitious, you went there to fill your wallet!!!

  73. London says:

Vela was pretty darn good in the second half against West Ham and that is exactly when I would like to see him playing tomorrow…….in the second half.

  74. rico says:

    Breaking News…….

Man Citeh have decided to go for more of a balanced midfield, they have now realised that they another player to match Paddy in midfield…

They are reported to now be chasing Stephen Appiah, another player available on a free transfer who is also known to be a regular crock!

    ok, I am joking 😉

  75. rico says:

    😆 London

I also doubt Vela will start,

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas TV Traore
    Ramsey/Tomas Denilson Diaby
    Nasri Arshavin Eduardo

  76. rico says:

Anyone seen our leader today, surely he is not still asleep 😉

  77. alfamilano says:

Vela instead of Nasri is my bet, also Eduardo and Arshavin swap. Almunia will have some sort of spurious injury so that Fab can play.

    Fabianski
    Sagna Gallas TV Traore
    Ramsey/Tomas Denilson Diaby
    Arshavin Eduardo Vela

  78. rico says:

alfa, I love your optimism for the Almunia injury, if he has got the cold I woke up with, he wouldn’t be able to play 😦 😦

  79. alfamilano says:

    London,

the snow may be melting but First Capital Connect have (yet again) just cancelled all of the evening trains via Finsbury Park because of adverse weather conditions. So it’s still 50/50 I think.

I saw some film the other day of the really bad snow in 1962 (I think, just before my time), and it showed trains plowing through feet of snow. We seem to have gone backwards since then.

  80. London says:

    Alfa

I must be missing the point because I cannot see any reason why the game would be off because some trains weren’t running.

The decision to postpone, as I understand it, is based on the condition of the ground and the surrounding area.

  81. London says:

I just heard the Vieira interview and now understand why people were getting a bit upset….WE…WE…what the hell is this WE nonsense Patrick?

  82. London says:

Bring back the orange football and get on with it.

  83. Big Raddy says:

    Evening All,

Good to be back. It is colder here than the UK but we know how to handle it. No disruption of services etc.

I am saddened that Vieira has returned. He is not the player he was and will struggle. And he is an AFC legend …. it hurts to see him holding a City shirt. Hope he doesn’t get to play at the Emirates !

  84. rico says:

What about the ball with laces London 😉 😉

  85. Big Raddy says:

Orange football London. I said the same to my nephew yesterday. We were in NikeTown and he bought a pair of shinpads for €75 !! And the EPL football is purple & yellow with pimples on it, with the weight of a beachball !!

    Raddy would have hated it

  86. alfamilano says:

    London

I know they say it is about safety in the area around the ground but I’m sure that the police have input on public safety. If there really is no public transport (buses and tubes are OK at the moment), and the roads become icy, then they could have a lot of people with nowhere to go after the match. That is a bigger risk than people slipping on the steps or whatever – that really does seem like a red herring to me.

    Lets hope it goes ahead.

  87. London says:

    Hello BR

Did I hear that you got stuck at Gatwick on the way back from a game?

  88. alfamilano says:

    Rico

I am always optimistic. That’s why my predictions are so unreliable 🙂

  89. Big Raddy says:

Sadly so London. A miserable and expensive experience.

  90. rico says:

Hi Raddy – I hope he plays at the Emirates, and we thrash Citeh – he showed no feeling towards us during his interview and that is nothing other than disrespectful..

I can’t even wish him good luck after that corny public showing!

    Its just money money money!

  91. rico says:

    😆 alfa

  92. Big Raddy says:

A problem could be that BR have a severely curtailed service and perhaps lots of season ticket holders would have problems getting home

  93. Big Raddy says:

Rico My fear is not that PV would play so well against us, rather the reverse. I think Song will humiliate him and I would hate to see it.

  94. London says:

    BR

That may be true but are games postponed based on that criteria. Right now the ground is fine, the roads around the ground are fine and if it doesn’t snow anymore they will remain fine so, I still cannot see any reason why it should be postponed

AAAaaaaa damn it, I just want to watch the game.

Get that orange ball out, Pat Rice will know where it is hidden.

  95. rico says:

I realised Raddy, and though I never thought I would hear myself say this but I would love to see Song make him look silly, old and over the hill! I recall when Bobby ( i think) robbed him in a simple tackle when we played Juve or Milan in the CL, I loved it – I have no time for those who do wrong and then move for money – sorry if that offends, but it’s how I feel..

He won’t even get into the Citeh side….

There must be a woman here in the UK he knows…. 😉

  96. alfamilano says:

    Viera, woah, Viera, woah
    City gave him a call
    But he’s still Arsenal

  97. London says:

    75 euros….for shin pads…..oooch

  98. rico says:

alfa, that’s just it, he isn’t anymore – the only difference between him and Ashley Cole is that Paddy went abroad! And maybe he is on a different mobile phone network 😉

  99. rico says:

How many summers did he flirt with a move???

  100. peachesgooner says:

    Well its not me 🙂

Just heard on talksport that the Togo team bus has been ambushed and attacked with gun-fire in Angola – 5 people seriously injured incl 2 players 😦

Why is the World Cup being played in South Africa?

  101. peachesgooner says:

    The woman Vieira knows 😉

  102. alfamilano says:

Rico, I’m just seeing it through rose-tinted glasses. I can’t see him in the same way as Cashley though.

Definitely agree I hope he misses every tackle and we put 4 past them. Song, Diaby etc. can definitely become as good as the midfield was when PV played for us.

  103. rico says:

What’s not you peaches?? Evening by the way 🙂

    That news is dreadful 😦

  104. London says:

Where as I always expected myself to say this and Song will make him look a fool.

    Alfa

I can see we are going to have to set up a Vieira helpline for Arsenal supporters:

Having trouble letting go call this number 09098661060

  105. peachesgooner says:

    Hi all

I have to say I’m jolly proud to be a gooner today – its been a long time coming but in todays Times there is a HUGE picture of Cesc in battle-cry mode and a double page article about Arsene and Ivan and how the future of Arsenal is all wrapped up in Arsene and that Cesc is part of that 🙂

  106. rico says:

    😆 😆 peaches ..

London, my reference is to while he played for us, since he left I couln’t give two hoots which player made him look stupid, as long as they did. Song will make him look more than stupid and imho Song is and will probably be a more loyal and honest player than many some choose to idol…

alfa – Cole flirted with our biggest rivals and denied it, that is why we all hate him so much – Paddy did the same three summers on the trot I think, why are they different?? Take them specs off 😉

  107. peachesgooner says:

I agree with you all that its going to be very hard seeing Vieira in a citeh shirt – I’m just not going to look, no more citeh games for me, hopefully he won’t play at the Emirates.

Of course its all about the money if he wanted to play he could have gone to a lesser team on less money and probably had more chances to play. What a mug 😦

  108. London says:

Can someone remind me, how much did we sell Vieira to Juventus for?

  109. alfamilano says:

    London
You gave me the wrong number, that turned out to be the number for Patrick’s woman in the UK that Rico was talking about. She seemed very keen to see him again.

    How come you had it?

  110. Big Raddy says:

    Hi Peaches

You sure that you are not the secret woman?? I could see you on his arm, and he must have a few bob stashed away by now 🙂

  111. rico says:

peaches, Ivan did an I/V this morning where he said the same, and that Arsene will soon sign an extension – while we have Arsene, Cesc, the likes of Robin, Song, TV, and a few others, this club is very much on the way up –

We want loyal players, and Cesc is just that – but if Arsene goes…… I wonder just what could happen 😦

I would love to see that picture though, I am off to hunt it down 😆

  112. alfamilano says:

I give in, PV is the pits, I hope he trips on his walking stick. He’ll need one if he phones the number London gave me.

Off to do something productive. Talk to you all later – good luck for tomorrow.

    £13.7m by the way.

  113. peachesgooner says:

Hi Raddy – you made it out of blighty then – nearly got to a game too 🙂

  114. rico says:

    London – £18M – and he was crocked then…

  115. London says:

    Hello Peaches

It’s interesting you were saying that you couldn’t bear to see him play in a City shirt, I was thinking of an image of every Arsenal supporter peaking at the telly surreptitiously from behind the net curtains praying that he is no longer any good.

I can deal with a Vieira that is over the hill but a fully functioning one is going to be painful.

  116. rico says:

sky said 18M a few days ago, but to be fair it was a good deal at the time, he would have gone to Madrid the season before but dispite what people choose to believe he failed a medical because of his crocked knee – he had no choice but to stay…

    The club wanted him gone…..

  117. Big Raddy says:

Rico. I hope you are right about Song, but PV4 IMO is one of the finest players ever to wear the shirt.

I was there the day he came on at THOF for his debut. The whole of Highbury rose as one., because here was the player who was going to take AFC to the next level, and he did. Without PV4 I believe we could not have become one of the Top 4, nor be “The Invincibles”

And I still love his song

  118. rico says:

Guys/Gals, he pooped on us… come on

Unlike Petit who the club pooped on….

  119. Big Raddy says:

I am sure it was 13.7. I was so sad when he left, but what a last kick in the red & white !

  120. peachesgooner says:

Hmmmmm I do love the smell of Vick 😉

Why on earth would he want to go to Manchester, he’s almost as much north west london as you and me Raddy, started in Edgware then Arkley then Hampstead – isn’t that what we all aspire to 😆

  121. rico says:

Raddy, I am not disagreeing with you about the time when he was with us, I worshipped every blade of grass he ran over, he was Mr Magic – but he did the same as so many, played our club (which means more to me than any player) to be fools….

  122. Big Raddy says:

381 games isn’t pooped on Rico

  123. peachesgooner says:

I know London, I was thinking of peeking through slightly open fingers 😦

  124. rico says:

Raddy, we are seeing it differently…

Compare Paddy the man to Dennis the man?

  125. Big Raddy says:

    LOL Peaches…..

Why are you smelling Vick? Is he your new man?

  126. London says:

    Rico

18 mil from Juventus, that’s quite funny. Vieira didn’t leave, he was sold and what’s more Juventus gave him a five year deal. We all know that didn’t work out; he then went to Inter and played 30 games in three seasons. Mean while we developed Cesc. If we had won one solitory, single piece of silver ware this would be the perfect piece of business……

  127. Big Raddy says:

Rico. That is not fair. Compare PV4 to any other AFC DM in memory

  128. rico says:

I guess someone is getting up your nose peaches 😉

    Vick ….

  129. London says:

Thats funny, Edgware, Arkley, Hampstead and so, so true.

  130. rico says:

I can’t Raddy, but I am talking about ‘The Man’ not the position, as I said earlier, I worshipped him, but when a player loves the club like Dennis – that is the kind of man who I will always respect… he loved us and wanted to stay, played on with a one year rolling contract… He really loved us

  131. London says:

    Rico

Vieira didn’t walk, he was pushed.

  132. London says:

It was a great last kick though…….

    Where’s Rasp?

What does he think about all this.

  133. rico says:

The best last kick you could dream of, I sometimes still can’t believe he chose to leave us after the way he celebrated…

  134. peachesgooner says:

rico – are you going to tell London?

Good call London – I’ve just texted rasp to get on here but he doesn’t always have network at home – I’m sure he’ll be on at some point – he loved Vieira

  135. Big Raddy says:

    TH or DB Rico?

    TH for me…

  136. peachesgooner says:

rico – he didn’t choose to leave us – he was sold……

Loved it when Cesc left him on his toosh at Highbury – he won’t want to remember that and Pires beating him to a header – how we laughed 🙂

  137. Rasputin says:

    Hi Roadsters,

I loved PV because of the confidence his leadership gave the team (and therefore me 🙂 ) but there are those who are privy to information that could sully that ememory so I’d rather not know. Let’s not forget how Bobby Robbed him of the ball to set up the winner in the CL (was it 4 yaers ago?) He’s not the player he once was. I’m wondering if they are going to play him as a CB or sweeper?

  138. London says:

Are you going to tell London Rico?

    Is this serious?

  139. rico says:

No peaches, I just get a tad frustrated becuase so many think he was pushed – but the old expression ‘rod for your own back come to mind’

Dennis for me Raddy 🙂 But I love Henry too….

  140. rico says:

    No and yes London 😉

  141. Big Raddy says:

Having bought Kompany and De Jong as DM’s it doesn’t show much confidence in Sparky’s signings.

  142. rico says:

    Evening Rasp

I remember the night little Bobby P robbed him, oh how I smiled – Bobby P is not the best tackler we have ever had at our club….

  143. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico 😉

I’m not fazed about playing against PV – I don’t think it will be a question of out-muscling him, our midfielders will be too fast and mobile – he won’t be able to catch them…..

  144. London says:

I was just writing that about Pires, Rico

“Pires the Enforcer” just makes me howl.

  145. peachesgooner says:

I thought he beat him in the air and we all gasped and said out loud ‘was that bobby that just did that’ and then laughed and sang his name………

  146. Rasputin says:

Now I really did cheer when Bobby came back to the Emirates – the nature of his leaving was very sad – we didn’t really get a chance to say goodbye before, but at last I think he recognised what we thought of him … it was very emotional 😳

  147. London says:

No it was Pires’ sliding tackle that got the ball from Vieira and then set up the goal for Fabregas.

  148. rico says:

    😆 London –

It will be like watching Jack Duckworth run for the moving bus Rasp 😉

  149. London says:

    Rico

Where is this email I am getting worried now.

  150. Rasputin says:

London is correct – a perfectly timed sliding tackle from Pires … completely out of character 😛

  151. London says:

Hence the new name “Pires the Enforcer” lol

  152. Rasputin says:

I’m not one to go for conspiracy theories, but I wonder if the gun attack on the Togo bus was just a bunch of trigger-happy renegades or whether there is a more sinister political motive?

  153. London says:

    What kind of political motive?

  154. rico says:

Second thoughts London, maybe one day…

  155. peachesgooner says:

I’m sure it was political rasp……..

  156. alfamilano says:

Arsene has blown out Carlton Cole then. Good.

  157. London says:

Phew, I thought there might be a problem, oh well, I shall carry on as before.

  158. London says:

    Back anon

  159. peachesgooner says:

I reckon Togo will pull out of the ACN…….can’t blame them really………

  160. alfamilano says:

Peaches, maybe other teams will as well?

  161. peachesgooner says:

Other stuff on talksport this afternoon was the surprise that the Liverpool v Spuds game was called off 48 hours before the scheduled time!!!!!!!!!!

A Hull supporter phoned in to say that the Hull supporters had gone to the stadium in their numbers to help clear the area around the ground to make it safe for their game tmoro…..very admirable

Liverpool apparently haven’t gritted the area around the ground – methinks they don’t want to play…….

  162. rico says:

    Sorry London 😦

  163. rico says:

    Lets hope Song’s country do…. 😦

  164. peachesgooner says:

alfa – I agree maybe other teams aswell…..and how are they going to guarantee the safety of teams and supporters in South Africa for the World Cup…….

  165. Rasputin says:

The politics I’m thinking of is to do with the WC not the ACN

  166. peachesgooner says:

    What are you thinking rasp?

  167. alfamilano says:

Lots of problems in SA, for the local people as well as the teams. The teams will be OK, they will be well looked after.

  168. rico says:

Off to eat supper, laters all

  169. Rasputin says:

The politics in Africa are incredibly complicated – even the Africans don’t understand, I certainly don’t. Money, power and territory are the motivating forces as elsewhere, its just that everything seems more brutal in Africa – going back well before the Mau Mau – and the rest of the world turns a blind eye to what’s happening in places like Ruanda and Zimbabwe

rico – are you going to tell London?

    Tell me what Peaches?

  171. Rasputin says:

Adebayor unhurt – I hate the guy, but I’m pleased he wasn’t involved …….

  172. alfamilano says:

    Hear, hear, sincerely.

Good job he didn’t try to make a run for it 😳

  173. London says:

He wasn’t hurt because he was standing off side

  174. Rasputin says:

    😆 London

  175. peachesgooner says:

    London – I don’t know otherwise I’d tell you 😳

  176. peachesgooner says:

I was going to make a joke about Ade but I thought it was bad form – I’m pleased someone else did though 😆

  177. alfamilano says:

Nice one London, glad I wasn’t the only one.

  178. Rasputin says:

It’s all right you lot … I’ll be the straight man and set you up for the punch lines 🙄

  179. rico says:

    Iv’e got girl flu, its much worse than a man’s 😦 😦

  180. rico says:

Off to find a duvet and a hot water bottle, night all 😦

  181. peachesgooner says:

Poor you rico – wish you better 😦 catch up tmoro

Oh oh I forgot to tell you its Irishs’ birthday tomorrow actually today already in Oz but you know what I mean………

  182. peachesgooner says:

This is an interesting story. Alfa said earlier that the teams will be looked after but what if they’re not? What if there are more attacks on buses or even in hotels?

    http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1766_5844163,00.html

  183. Irishgunner says:

Arsenal should pack up Eboue and Song and bring them back.

This type of thing was always bound to happen and now that he has I can see more attacks happening. They obviously don’t have the security to cope with it.

  184. London says:

I think Alfa was refering to the World Cup in South Africa rather than Angola, although I could be wrong…

  185. London says:

Happy Birthday Irish…..24..I believe, what a great age…..I wish you happiness for the future.

  186. London says:

‘I’m focused on short-term, not Chamakh’ (Wenger)

On the short term, on the bloody short term, I don’t think I have ever heard him talk about the short term in all thirteen odd years that he has been at the club.

There is only one decent striker out there who is good enough and needs to play to make the World Cup……it’s got to be Horse Face, it’s got to be….who else could it possibly be?

If he stays at Real he won’t get a game which means he misses out on the World Cup, so he has to leave. Where can he go? Where?

Maybe even a loan until the end of the season?

  187. PDT says:

    Good morning everyone!

Hope the game goes through today. With the Chelsea game postponed, it will be like getting back our game in hand. And then, after we play the back to back games against Bolton, we will have a real chance of getting on top of the league. If we can continue our winning streak through next month, we will be in pole position for the league title.

  188. alfamilano says:

    Morning everyone.

London, Peaches, yes, I meant in South Africa the teams will be looked after and pretty much insulated from what is going on around the tournament.

No disrespect to South Africa by the way, it’s just that the World Cup is a magnet for every kind of criminal and low life looking to make some money and it’s the local people who will see that not the teams.

  189. alfamilano says:

FYI If you are in the UK Lee Dixon is interviewing Andrey Arshavin on Football Focus today.

  190. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

London have you got anything you can quickly put up for this morning in case rico is too poorly to get out of bed. Or can you have a look in drafts to see if anything is in there waiting to be published.

  191. London says:

Bum, it’s starting to snow in central London.

No, sorry Peaches, I have just woken up. Maybe try one of the owners.

  192. London says:

I spoke too soon, snows stopped

  193. peachesgooner says:

    😆 thats funny 😆

  194. peachesgooner says:

I had snow too about half an hour ago but its blue sky and sunshine now – looks like we have a game 🙂

  195. rico says:

    Morning all

ave has a post in the drafts, but I am not sure if its ready to put up so I had best not interfere 😉

  196. avenell says:

Morning Roadsters..I have put a NEW POST up..

    That was in drafts.. 😉
