Up Pompey!! …………….

Well its still Panto season so it should be Up Pompeii – but hey ho πŸ˜‰

This morning we are greeted with the news that Nikki B is out for a further three weeks than thought, I know I am not his biggest fan but tonight’s game is a typical game where we could need that Plan B, Nik is the only one who has a bit of height and alongside AA or even Eduardo just maybe he would have been the ideal player to bring on from the bench if needed to make a difference.

I haven’t seen any squad for tonight but I think we can be sure that there will be no Cesc and no Denilson.

Tonight is one of those games that we really need to win, away from home, nasty weather and no doubt by the sea there will be a bit of a gale force wind to cope with.

But cope with it I expect us to do! The World Cup looms, many players have said that they are desperate to be involved. The only way some of them will be is to start showing their ability for their club. Not during an odd game or two, but week in week out, home and away.

So Diaby, Nasri and Theo – are you listening??

Tonight is not so difficult for the boss to select his team; neither will be the West Ham game but after that, rather him than me!

Sagna TV Gallas Traore
Ramsey Song Diaby
Nasri Eduardo AA

Can you believe I even started to miss Eboue then for a split second, I bet he would have been alongside Song had he been available.

I reckon it will be a tough game, not quite as bad as the Fulham away earlier in the season, but a game we will win by an odd goal or two…. Pompey will be ready to fight for every ball; we need to make sure we are ready to do the same.

So following a night where the Dippers got lucky again and sneaked a 1-0 away at Aston Villa, let’s get down South and bring back three convincing points

Not much gossip around again other than any loan move for Wilshere has been put on hold following the injury to Cesc, and as much as we are being linked to Bellamy, the boss has said he is not on his wish list!

The Wilshere one is interesting, maybe we will start to see him play a bit more, that is an exciting prospect, I think he is one of the younger players who does have a bit of spike about him and could be ready to make the step up?

That’s about it folks, have a great day and those who are travelling to Portsmouth, good luck to you, I shall be sat in the dry watching on the television – Sky Sports 1, 7.45 kick off..

  3. KING GOONER says:

the boyz will need to get stuck in tonight-no poncing about!!rosicknote might be playing i understand?

  4. Shava says:

I’m with you on this one. Narrow win me thinks

  5. London says:

    Morning Rico

Nice post, I do like your morning round up, I know you have been up since the crack and have gathered all that is worth knowing in, so it’s like a one stop shop for me, all the news in one read πŸ˜‰

  6. rico says:

Morning KG and Shava, sorry for the delay but the first comment holds in moderation – welcome to Avenell Road, blog away freely…

Morning London, like a Spar you mean πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  7. London says:

After my woosey, light weight 1-1 prediction on Saturday I am reverting back tonight to the way it should be: put me down for a gung ho 3-1 victory to the good guys.

  8. London says:

And as King Gooner so succinctly put it “No poncing around tonight.”

  9. London says:

Rico’s corner shop, all you need to know about Arsenal in one stop.

  10. rico says:

Spot- on, tonight is time to roll up the sleeves and get on with it!

  11. rico says:

London, i am still smiling at the one stop shop comment, but how true, both up for the morning papers at 6am πŸ˜‰

  12. rico says:

London – that is really funny πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  13. Alfa says:

Maybe AA will get the ball a bit more tonight than Saturday. Be great to see Eduardo get his confidence back in front of goal as well.

  14. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

AW is bigging up Diaby for tonight’s game. I hope to see Ramsey in midfield too. This would be a new partnership in midfield and this isn’t the time in the season when we should be experimenting – but we have no choice. They could get in each other’s way. I don’t think they should play side by side – preferably put Diaby in the advanced role and let Ramsey collect the ball from the back 4 and pull the strings from there.

  15. rico says:

    Morning Alfa

Both AA and Eduardo need a good performance, a a couple of goals will do Eduardo the world of good…

  16. rico says:

    Food for thought………….

Chelsea announce a loss of 44.9 Million pounds….

Thanks goodness we don’t operate in such a way!

  17. Alfa says:

    Morning Rico

One of the best things about Arsenal for me is that we operate in the correct way, keep the books balanced. OK it helps that Arsene can buy players for nothing then sell them at the right time (Toure and Adebayor the latest!). Chelsea are bad enough, that’s how they can afford to pay Cashley all that money. What about Pompey? I read that December will be the third month the players don’t get paid on time. Maybe they will all be distracted tonight (wishful thinking).

  18. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

I agree that Ramsey should play tonight for cesc.Fratton Park is the worst ground I have ever been to, and our only obstacle tonight will be the state of the pitch. Is snow forecast ?.

  19. rico says:

Sad state of affairs at Pompey Alfa, I hope it all gets better for them – not until after tonight though of course. πŸ˜‰

    Morning kelsey

  20. rico says:

    Megson has been sacked…

Hughes is the favourite to take over. Wonder who he will buy with Β£250.000 rather than his 250 Million πŸ˜‰

  21. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

If pompey are in such a dire financial state, why did they let Kranjcar go to the spuds for a ridiculous Β£2m – he’s worth 4 or 5 times that much. If I were a pompey fan, I’d really hate ‘arry .. he’s pillaged their squad and taken their best players on the cheap……

  22. London says:

    Morning Alfa

By the way Chaf is Dickie and Benwell is Neil, they occasionally pop on, it’s good when they do.

What is your prediction for tonight…it’s little game we play, guess the score.

  23. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

After reading that abramovich has wrote off Chelsea’s debt and the way Portsmouth have been taken over and over again it does make me proud of the way we are run at Arsenal.

Arsene may have his faults but we are a better club run his way no matter what big names we haven’t bought or our wage restrictions.
And it is a tribute to him and players like Cesc and RvP who could have left before now for more financial rewards.

  24. avenell says:

I should have started that speech off with

“Friends, Romans, Countrymen”.. keeping with rico’s title.. πŸ˜‰

  25. Alfa says:

My Arsenal predictions are always disastrously wrong, ask Mrs. Alfa. I think that Grant is pretty canny, but we are strong and getting more confident all the time. 1-0 late goal.

There, I’ve said it. If we lose 5-0 don’t blame me.

  26. rico says:

Hi Rasp – that always baffles me whe managers go back and get a player on the cheap, I bet if we enquired about him it would have been a lott higher value!

I am not a fan of Arry either, he pooped on Bournemouth and Pompey, self centred man!

  27. rico says:

Morning ave, sorry about the post….. 😦

  28. rico says:

Annoying about Bolton, a new manager can boost a side, lets hope he is not in place when we play them !

  29. Rasputin says:

    Morning ave, rico, London πŸ˜‰

Put me down for 2 nil today …. I can’t believe that pool’s luck still persists 😦

  30. rico says:

Anyone see the goal Anthony Stokes scored for Hibs at the weekend? Scorcher…

Wasn’t he once with us πŸ˜‰

  31. rico says:

    To us Rasp? πŸ˜‰

  32. rico says:

Got to go and feed a cat !! Back shortly…

  33. rico says:

Horsey is off to the dippers on loan!!

  34. avenell says:

That’s okay rico.. you was lucky to get that one..
I had it ready to transfer to the drafts and all our power went off for a few minutes crashing the computer and all UNSAVED work.. 😦

  35. Rasputin says:

Who else rico? – you know I never forecast a loss πŸ˜•

  36. avenell says:

    Morning Rasp..

Rico that horse faced tosser people may think is a good deal..
But I have heard that the spanish FA are forcing Torres to have his operation and be fit for the World Cup.. so really they will be weaker anyway..

Did you hear the Villa fans sing “feed the Scousers, let them know it’s Christmas time”.. always makes me laugh that?

  37. Rasputin says:

I know we shouldn’t be buying any more kids at this juncture, but I like the sound of Romelu Lakaku – he’s 6’3″ at 16, plays in the Belgian league and is a very powerful striker in the Drogba mould…..

  38. kelsey says:

    traore vermaelen galls sagna

    ramsey diaby

eduardo arshavin nasri(walcott just for peches)

    1-0 will do for me.

  39. Irishgunner says:

Megson just got the boot, another manager bites the dust, job for Hughes there ha ha

C’mon GOOOOOOOOOONERS, be back in a few hours off to bed.

  40. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all – Goodnight Irish

Is it ever gonna stop raining 😦 😦 😦

We are much much much better then Pompey so of course we should completely flatten……..but they are fighting for survival and I do feel very sorry for them after ‘arry broke up their team and stole all their spuds πŸ˜›

  41. peachesgooner says:

    ‘flatten them’ 😦

  42. peachesgooner says:

Heard a bit of Vieira gossip last night – something about his cars being insured for use in the UK – could be something or nothing………..

  43. rico says:

πŸ˜† Rasp, I knew it was to us really πŸ˜‰

ave, that is good news re Torres πŸ™‚

    Morning everyone else πŸ™‚

  44. JonJon says:

    hi guys…

    nice round up rico..

i think ramsey and diaby will make a good partnership…ramsey as the playmaking passer and diaby as the direct runner….as long as song sits back and allows them both to play with freedom we should be ok..its only pompey…another 3-0 me thinks..

not sure about nasri though…he never turns up away from home..could be a good time to use theo…pompey are bottom of the league and are utter shite…if theo cant turn it on against these bozo’s then hes no use to us…

  45. rico says:

    Hi JJ, thanks..

Pompey destroyed the dippers, I think we need to be on our toes…

  46. Alfa says:

Right about Theo, he could get some crossing and shooting practice in tonight. What do you think it is with Nasri? Sometimes I think he just needs to grow some balls but then against Hull he seemed like he had. Although he needs some lessons from Martin Keown on how to get away with off-the-ball stuff.

  47. JonJon says:

hi rico…pompey destroyed the dippers cos they were there to be destroyed…they are garbage as well…we gave one of the worst performances at anfield ive probably ever seen from an arsenal side in recent times and we still beat them…

alfa..i dont know what it is with nasri…hes definately got the balls(like when he kicked joey barton, and hull)..i just think he doesnt adapt himself enough when hes taken out of his comfort zone at the emirates..

  48. rico says:

    Breaking News on Sky

HM Customs and Revenue issue winding up petition on Portsmouth ….

Does that mean we don’t need to play them tonight πŸ˜‰

  49. rico says:

Reina was poor to that night….

Seriously, our game could now be off tonight, surely

  50. peachesgooner says:

Hi rico – what does this mean? Are they closing the club down…….

  51. avenell says:

But I want to go second..

Perhaps they will give us the points.. πŸ˜‰

Knowing our luck the game will be postponed and Portsmouth will get bought out by richer people than citeh and we will have to play them after they have spent Β£500 million in the transfer window..

  52. rico says:

    Hi peaches

That is my take on it – they are in so much debt they have been now ordered to basically pack their bags and go – if that is the case and there are no grounds for appeal they will be thrown out of the league I think and we will get the points..

I guess though they knew it was coming and I doubt they have a leg to stand on.

Someone just said to me, that could be good as their players will be for sale, my answer…

They are all crap though πŸ˜‰ But I wouldn’t be surprised if AW goes on the hunt for a bargain 😦

I am going to see if I can find out what this all really means

  53. rico says:

ave, I think it has all gone too far for a buy out, I would guess there is a time limit and this petition is a last resort by customs

  54. peachesgooner says:

Hi ave – I want to go 2nd too πŸ˜‰

Just had a read on sky it doesn’t look like anything will stop the game tonight – they need the money from the tv don’t they……………..

  55. rico says:

What happens when a Winding Up Petition is issued?

If a winding up petition is issued against you, a court hearing will already have been arranged. Winding up a company in this way is also referred to as Compulsory Liquidation.

If you have not already sought the advice of a debt counsellor or licensed insolvency practitioner, you must do so now. You will be required to appear in court and, if you wish to address the court in any way, you must have legal representation.

If the winding up petition is successful, the court will order that an administrator be appointed to conclude your company’s affairs. Any creditors, including employees, HMRC and trade creditors, will be paid from the available funds, and at the end of the process, your company will be dissolved and will no longer exist.

What to do if a Winding Up Petition is issued

First and foremost, if a winding up petition is issued against you, it is imperative that you seek advice at the earliest opportunity. Contact a specialist in debt solutions like Suitable Debt Solutions, who can advise the appropriate course of action

  56. JonJon says:

pompey will be given a few weeks to respond…

if they are declared bankrupt then administrators will be brought in…

its one of those situations where they will be docked points..either this season or at the start of next season when they are relegated…

  57. rico says:

The game looks like it will go ahead – I guess its just like a notification to tell Pompey pay up or you will be dispanded..

  58. peachesgooner says:

We are the Arsenal Citizens Advice Bureau ……. πŸ˜€

  59. rico says:

JJ – I think it is worse than that, it could be the end of the club, but I do think ave is right, they could get a reprieve if a Mr Money Bags comes in, but who in their right mind would take over a club in such a dreadful situation…

I bet Arry is involved in this somewhere, I wonder now if it anything related to when he was arrested??

  60. rico says:

    πŸ˜† peaches..

Tonight will be a strange game, the players could think, ‘why bother’ we are finished’ and we romp the game, or it may just spike them up a bit…

Why would Avram Grant go there if he knew the full story? He must be mad…

  61. rico says:

Arsenal on the transfer trail of Benfica midfield star

Arsene Wenger is keeping tabs on Benfica midfielder Hassan Yebda as he looks to strengthen his squad.

Yebda, 25, is currently on loan at Portsmouth until the end of the season and is a mainstay in Algeria’s team for the African Nations Cup and next summer’s World Cup.

Wenger is keen to add some strength in depth to his midfield and considered re-signing former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira but there are doubts about the Inter Milan midfielder’s current fitness.

That has left Wenger looking at other options and Yebda is on his radar as he is available on the cheap from Benfica. He attracted interest from Everton last summer before joining Portsmouth.

  62. JonJon says:

its what happened to leeds…they were issued with alsorts of writs and just declared themselves bankrupt…and the bank and the taxman lost almost 90million….but it meant losing points..i think its 10-18 depending on how bad the situation is..

leeds where already practically relegated from league 1 so they docked there points at the start of the next season and they started 12 points behind every one else…

    same happened at rotherham(x3)and bournemouth…

i cant see pompey going into liquidation if rotherham can survive it three times…

  63. rico says:

Court hearing for Pompey in February, if they have not got theire finances in place by then they will be declared bankrupt!

    Pompey to issue statement shortly

Game on Arsenal, bosh them while they are down πŸ™‚

  64. rico says:

JJ, I hope you are right, it would be sad to see them forced out of the league…

  65. peachesgooner says:

Did you notice my bit of gossip about Vieira earlier……

  66. JonJon says:

by the time pompey have responded and the administrators are brought in pompey will be practically relegated anywhere…so they wont be allowed to be docked points this season…

they will start next season minus 12-18 points and will probably get relegated again…

oh arry what have you done…

  67. peachesgooner says:

rico – I think they were pretty much down before this happened and its not like us to turn the screw is it 😦

  68. JonJon says:

    hi legs.. πŸ˜‰

i seen it and i was going to respond but i got caught in another conversation…

to my knowledge vieira spent 9 years ‘working’ in england…doesnt that make him an english citizen under the EU rules????

which means hes insured in the UK..no matter where he is based…

dont know if that is correct, its more of a guess but i think thats how it works… πŸ˜‰

  69. peachesgooner says:

    Hi JJ

Didn’t ‘arry get the Freedom of Portsmouth bestowed on him after he jumped ship………..

  70. peachesgooner says:

The Vieira thing sounded a bit tenuous to me too but I thought I’d better share it now……no point in saying ‘I knew that’ next week …… πŸ˜›

  71. rico says:

Sorry peaches, I saw it too but got caught up in the Pompey stuff..

Wonder where he may be going, The Chavs were reported as one of the clubs..

  72. JonJon says:

they’ll be taking that freedom back legs…

they’ll need everything they can to sell at the booty to keep them afloat…

  73. rico says:

See the Mirror report earlier that we are after one of their players who is on loan with them… Yebda

  74. JonJon says:

    he wont join chelsea…

if he comes back it will be to us but it will be in a coaching role..dressing room figure…he wont play much

  75. JonJon says:

    rico your joking???

why would we want any pompey players??

we want superstars not super chumps…

  76. rico says:

No honest, he is on loan with them from Benfica, have to keep an eye on him tonight…

  77. peachesgooner says:

But he wants to try and get into the France squad for the world cup – he needs to be playing…….

  78. JonJon says:

he cant be doing that well then πŸ˜‰

    and i bet hes african… πŸ˜‰

to be honest i still want a duracell bunny..flamini or matuidi will do me…

  79. JonJon says:

i dont think vieiras got the legs, legs πŸ˜‰

i think he’ll struggle in the PL..be nice to have him back as a boost for the team but like i said more behind the scenes than anything..

and i cant see him joining any other PL team..even if he wants games..

  80. rico says:

    Legs, Legs πŸ˜†

  81. avenell says:

Apparently Portsmouth have been to court and the judge told them..

“pay up Pompey, Pompey pay up” πŸ˜‰

  82. kelsey says:

once you are out of the country(UK) for a continuous 6 months, you are deemed a non resident. You can drive a car in the UK with an EU license. Must go, see you later.

  83. rico says:

    πŸ˜› πŸ˜† ave

You can drive for 364 days in England kelsey, after that you need to take a test, honest πŸ˜‰

  84. rico says:

By that I mean, apply for a UK licence….

  85. avenell says:

Patrick will have to join the AA so he can get those bits of plastic to stick on his headlights to stop blinding oncoming motorists now that he will be driving on the left.

  86. JonJon says:

cheers for clearing that up kelsey/rico

  87. rico says:

Mine was fondly know as useless info JJ πŸ˜‰

  88. peachesgooner says:

Don’t worry rico the original info is probably useless anyway ….. 😦

It came from someone who deals in prestige cars…..you know what car salesmen are like ….. πŸ˜‰

  89. avenell says:

He would need to register his car in the UK too, After a year I wouldn’t want him driving around with with no Road tax on his car..

That’s worse than Murder in this country..

  90. rico says:

peaches, there is never smoke without a fire, I am sure there is something in the info, he is desperate to play in the WC, just hope he is not so desperate that he would go to Spuds πŸ˜‰

Maybe Zola wants him at WH ?

  91. alfamilano says:

I’m still Alfa, got myself a proper account now.

Somebody who really has some money and a plan will buy Pompey, I’m sure. Maybe David Gold will go for it if he doesn’t get West Ham for Β£50m. Not everyone in the Middle East has cash at the moment.

  92. rico says:

😳 best I go check my tax ave πŸ˜‰

  93. rico says:

alfa, you went into moderation, sorry 😦

  94. rico says:

  95. Rasputin says:

All this turmoil at Pompey and the managerial change at Bolton is likely to produce unpredictable performances. I’d prefer it if the clubs were stable, at least we’d know what was in store…..

  96. alfamilano says:

No problem Rico, my fault as I changed account. I wanted a picture like everyone else πŸ™‚

I see someone else has offered Β£100m for West Ham now. Pompey will be sold I’m sure.

  97. rico says:

Cripes alfa, who has offered that amount of money, they must be either very rich or very daft, but good on them who ever they may be…

I saw your picture in the dashboard, I love Alfas, we have garage nearby, I drool over some of them πŸ˜‰

Rasp – totally agree, especially with the Bolton situation, said earlier that I just hope a new manager doesn’t get appointed until after we have played them…

We would not have drawn with the spuds that night had ‘Arry not have just taken over as manager, we would have thrashed them….

  98. rico says:

Oops, sorry – I read that as someone has offered 100M for Pompey, not the Hammers…. 😳

  99. kelsey says:

    Gone….Up Pompey!! ……………. πŸ˜‰

  100. London says:

Team news, team news, team news where is it? If I don’t get it soon I’ll scweem and scweem and scweem and I can weally scweem you know.

  102. kelsey says:

    sorry not 2 vela’s ramsey.

  103. kelsey says:

Portsmouth have not beaten Arsenal since Perry Como topped the music charts more than half a century ago with Magic Moments…..fact πŸ™‚

  104. peachesgooner says:

London – is that weally you πŸ˜›

  105. peachesgooner says:

Hi kelsey – 2 Velas for me πŸ˜†

  106. alfamilano says:

Now Pompey are saying they didn’t know about the winding up order until everyone else.

Perhaps its just ‘arry they are winding up. πŸ˜‰

(That’s supposed to be a twitch not a wink).

  107. rico says:

kelsey – is that the real first eleven?????

AW has lost it if it is!!

  108. peachesgooner says:

Hello Londons friend alfamilano – nice avatar πŸ˜›

  109. rico says:

    πŸ˜† alfa

  110. alfamilano says:

Thanks peachesgooner. I used to have one a long time ago.

  111. rico says:

That team has just given Pompey three points!!

  112. kelsey says:

calm down rico, it was just a yoke πŸ˜‰

  113. rico says:

    Tonights team is…

    Sagna Gallas Verm Traore
    Ramsey Song Diaby
    Nasri Eduardo Arshavin

  114. kelsey says:

watch that peaches alfamilano,if only irish was on,with a name like yours it would be game, set and match. (in house joke)

  115. avenell says:

  116. rico says:

Whey hey, its the same as in the post πŸ™‚

  117. peachesgooner says:

Just seen the squad on the sky website and the no 14 is absent ……. 😦

That had better not be a joke …….

  118. kelsey says:

    no walcott πŸ™‚

  119. rico says:

peaches, i cant believe he is not in the squad either

  120. rico says:

kelsey – he is a good impact sub…

  121. peachesgooner says:

    Well done rico πŸ˜‰

  122. kelsey says:

  123. peachesgooner says:

No no no no no no no no………..my turn to scweem πŸ˜›

  124. kelsey says:

good impact player every 30 games or so…..i am not biased though πŸ˜‰

We must be selling him with Senderos throiwn in for david Villa πŸ˜‰

  125. London says:

We shouldn’t need belt and braces today anyway so Song and Rambo should have been the first choice after Cesc any way.

For a split second there Kelsey, for a split second.

Thanks Kelsey, I can see Rosicky coming on and starting on Saturday……he is another one who is playing for his world cup place. Come on Tomas, there is a lot of love out here for you.

  132. London says:

    That’s hilarious Irish πŸ˜‰

  133. kelsey says:

There’s still the olymics for theo πŸ˜‰

  134. London says:

    Hi Alfa

Yeah Merida would be good, going to watch the game now, later

  135. JonJon says:

oh dear..wenger doesnt even trust theo against pompey…

  136. alfamilano says:

    Pompey have gone defensive.

    Good for us.

  137. alfamilano says:

    See you all later

  138. Irishgunner says:

Arsenal.com seem to suggest he doesn’t even exist, No mention he never made the squad – must be another injury.

  139. kelsey says:

theo must be injured, maybe the screws fell out of his shouldrs and they forgot to bring a spanner and screwdriver.

  140. peachesgooner says:

Hi Irish – I’m going to a friend to watch the match, catch up later …….

  141. kelsey says:

morning irish, how are you ?

  142. Irishgunner says:

“1933: Now then, observants among you will have noticed that there are no Englishmen in either starting line-up at Fratton Park tonight. That, apparently, has never happened in the Premier League before. Ever.”

See ya Peaches, a “friend” is it? πŸ˜‰

  143. Irishgunner says:

    Sleepy Kelsey 😦

I came home from the pub last night especially early so I could get some sleep but still got woken up at 1.30am by the rest come home.

Five more minutes and I’ll be awake πŸ™‚

  144. JonJon says:

    i like merse…but sometimes i wish he’d shut the fuck up…

  145. JonJon says:

theo has a rib injury?? bollox..

  146. Irishgunner says:

Said on BBC Wenger said Cesc out for 10 days.

  147. JonJon says:

yeah wenger said cesc out for 10 days…

  148. rico says:

Good news that Cesc is only out for ten days Irish

Gutted there is no Theo – this is his kind of game from the bench!

    Come on Merida πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  149. rico says:

JJ, join the club re Merse… πŸ˜‰

  150. JonJon says:

hes so full of shit sometimes…

‘we are only back in the hunt cos manure and chelsea dropped points’

bollox…they only got so far away cos we dropped points… dickhead….

‘we need a new striker cos we dont score enough goals…’ dickhead…were the top scorers in the league…

we need a new striker cos we lack a plan B merse..nothing to do with fucking goals…

  151. rico says:

    Come on you GOONERS ………

Pay up Pompey is being sung ave πŸ˜‰

  152. rico says:

Keep an eye on that midfielder we are after πŸ˜‰

  153. JonJon says:

we need a big performance from ramsey today…he does well in cameos…pompey are a good chance to stamp his authority on the game like he does for wales right from the start…

  154. rico says:

    AA looks up for it….

  155. rico says:

    Nasri doesn’t!!

    Off to watch now…

  156. Irishgunner says:

    Another free-kick πŸ˜†

Why weren’t we doing this before or was it cos RvP was taking them all???

  157. rico says:

It was all about RVP Irish….

    Great second goal..

AA is dreadful, most are doing good, Song, Diaby and the defence are doing the bestest πŸ˜‰

  158. Irishgunner says:

Nasri was pretty awful till he scored.

Arshavin started well but then started losing the ball.

Sagna and Traore are doing well.

  159. avenell says:

sorry I have been out of the loop.. Another phone call from a Chav.. I gave it the YeeeeeS!!! when dudu’s free kick went in. πŸ˜‰

Dudu looks a happy bunny tonight, not a rampant one though.. πŸ˜‰

  160. JonJon says:

AA is isolated…thats the problem…hes not a lead striker but cos of his finishing ability hes being asked to play there for now….

he doesnt see enough of the ball to dictate the play like he was doing last season….so he looks out of sorts at the minute..but hes still capable of playing like shit and hitting a hattrick…

when the 1st team starts to return to normal AA will be back..but for now hes just a bit part player-capable of ripping a hole in the net if he gets the chance…so i see the logic in sacrificing his all round game..in affect hes ‘taking one for the team’

diabys really impressing me though..looks full of confidence..lets hope it lasts and he stays fit

  161. Rasputin says:

Diaby is carrying on where he left off – it’s like he’s had the shackles removed. I’m not so sure this policy of playing youngsters in other than their favoured positions always works?

  162. peachesgooner says:

Ha ha 2-0 and Paul Merson is a sour old puss πŸ™‚

  163. peachesgooner says:

    Hi rasp πŸ˜›

  164. Irishgunner says:

    Agreed on Diaby Rasp.

  165. peachesgooner says:

So why play AA in the middle then if hes not getting enough of the ball – maybe Eduardo will feel a bit more confident after tonight nad he can move into the middle

  166. Rasputin says:

Hi Peaches, I want to hug Huggy πŸ™„

  167. Rasputin says:

    Hi Irish,

Losing Song is going to leave a void I fear, he’s the only player who can really play the DM role……

  168. avenell says:

The commentators say we cannot walk the ball in the net.. yet when we do it’s too easy. lol..

  169. JonJon says:

cos AA can change the game in 1 second..the defenders know that and he gets double marked..it helps the other players like dudu find space…

  170. Irishgunner says:

It’ll be Diaby and Denilson playing behind Fabregas I think and its not a role Diaby likes.

Denilson said he will fill in for Song but they really play the same position anyway….

  171. JonJon says:

flood gates will open now…cant see pompey sitting back and restricting the damage…they’ll want the next goal..but we’ll get it if we play our cards right and stay patient…

the games won at 2-0 so we dont need to go gung ho..lets just relax and play it about and wait for the gaps..

  172. Rasputin says:

I agree Irish, I just hope Song gets back from the ACN in reasonable condition.

  173. rico says:

Rasp, I will miss Song as much as you – I am dreading watching our midfield without him 😦

Got to go now, til tomorrow all…

  174. rico says:

    Eduardo 😦 😦 😦

  175. avenell says:

Now we are beating the worst club in the Premiership 2-0, it’s an ideal time to bring on our 60k a week deadly weapon.. πŸ˜‰

    Shame he’s injured..

  176. JonJon says:

i dont beleive hes injured for a minute ave…
hes been dropped…he doesnt like sitting on the bench and watching a midfielder play in his place..nasri..so wengers said ok…your in the FA cup squad with the rest of the kids… πŸ˜‰

  177. avenell says:

No mention of an injury after the Villa game was there?

  178. JonJon says:

nope..no mention of any injury at all right up until the squad was announced…they also said denilson was out with flu…in his back.. πŸ˜‰

  179. avenell says:

Denilson has damaged on of his claws.. πŸ˜‰

  180. avenell says:

We stop the game for them tossers yet they carry on.. it’s out of order..

  181. Rasputin says:

    Raaaammmmmssseeeeyyyyyyy ………..

  182. avenell says:

That’s more like he does for Wales.. πŸ™‚

  183. Irishgunner says:

  184. Irishgunner says:

My comments are disappearing again Avenell

  185. avenell says:

    I’ll have a look..

    It went into spam..

  186. Rasputin says:

Almunia should have saved that 😦

  187. avenell says:

TV left his marker.. sell him.

  188. avenell says:

    Hahahaha thanks Mr Billong… πŸ™‚

  189. Irishgunner says:

Can Cameroon just not play in the ACN???

  190. avenell says:

Even his biggest critics must give him some respect now, surely!

  191. Rasputin says:

Eastmond on and LJ left on the bench?

  192. avenell says:

    He’s going to Burnley..

  193. avenell says:

Fair plays great .. but only when arsenal suffer because of it.. against Man u Hughes would be off..

  194. Rasputin says:

Diaby had a quieter second half, but Song was immense.

  195. avenell says:

I only said that to someone today that diaby fire always dies out after 45 mins..

  196. Rasputin says:

I guess he’s still developing. We came out from half time without the sharpness we showed in the first half. Song MoM officially – dead right too…..

  197. avenell says:

Spot on there Rasp.. not sure about Ramsey’s interviews yet.. πŸ™‚

  198. JonJon says:

    song was bloody fantastic..

  199. avenell says:

    Match report JJ ??

  200. Rasputin says:

I don’t know where Song is in contractual terms, but if he keeps on producing performances like that, he’s gonna attract interest from the ‘big’ clubs ….. He’s a pretty level headed family man so I reckon he wouldn’t be turned by the attention.

  201. avenell says:

He’s only just signed one Rasp..

  202. Rasputin says:

That’s good news ave πŸ˜‰ It’s looking pretty clear who the top 3 will be at the end of the season, but 4th place really is up for grabs … I’d prefer Villa or even Fulham as I wouldn’t want totnum, pool or citeh…….

  203. avenell says:

Villa would be good, but they haven’t looked that great lately..

  204. JonJon says:

    i’ll do it mr avenell

rasp hes only just signed a new one..

  205. avenell says:

Jonjon.. confirm that so london knows could you..

rico the slavedriver wants it for 9 in the morning.. πŸ˜‰

Or it’s a whipping.. I always miss the odd one πŸ˜‰

  206. Rasputin says:

Four games that may define our season – I hope Song is back for the Chav game …..

    Jan 27 A Aston Villa
    Jan 31 H Manchester United
    Feb 07 A Chelsea
    Feb 10 H Liverpool

  207. Rasputin says:

ave, I noticed that some sites put up a post titled “Match Report” that then say “report to follow” just to get early billing on NN …. I can’t see the point in that?

  208. avenell says:

We were saying the other day if we are within 4 or 5 points of the top after those games we have a pretty good run in..
It seems to go wrong when the CL games are close and Arsene thins out the team with squad players..

Best team at all times in the PL and the CL..

  209. Rasputin says:

I agree ave. I reckon Song will play in the FA cup against wham, but wouldn’t be surprised to see a CC type side with Eastmond, Vela and Merida playing, and maybe Sylvestre giving ine of the CB’s a rest (or Song as a CB?)

  210. avenell says:

Rasp.. it’s all about hits, not comments, Kelsey was on about it the other day.
I am just a wee innocent blogger..

  211. Rasputin says:

AR doesn’t need to play that game does it ave. The NN listing has already attracted some quality new bloggers to the site…..

  212. avenell says:

To be fair.. a lot of teams like villa and spuds played 2 games in 2 days over Christmes yet we had an extra day..I never heard a moan.

  213. Rasputin says:

True, Arsene does come across as a bit of a whinger sometimes. He was giving the 4th official an earbashing this evening when the game was stopped for an injured Pompey player …..

  214. JonJon says:

how do i confirm it ave??

  215. avenell says:

Say β€œI do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute tomorrows match report” πŸ™‚

  216. peachesgooner says:

I think its going to be really tricky without Song with Denilson injured/sick/missing and Cesc injured – I can’t see why Diaby would relish playing that role when hes so good unleashed higher up the pitch……….

  217. peachesgooner says:

    Irish are you still there?

When are you heading into the outback – are you around for the game on Sunday, 4am you lucky girl πŸ˜‰

  218. avenell says:

As for AR rasp.. I just want it to be a nice place to have a chat.. it’s not about money or whatever a load of hits brings.
it’s a funny world, blogs are free to start but they are supposed to have a value. like the dot com’s on the share market.

  219. avenell says:

Is it on the telly legs and co ?

  220. Irishgunner says:

    Still here Peaches.

Nah, I reckon I’ll be on a train headed south 4am Sunday.

  221. peachesgooner says:

Ok just need to know what my instructions are πŸ˜‰

I have been told that we are on the telly ave but I’ll have a quick check for you………

  222. avenell says:

Do as I ask Peach.. πŸ˜‰

  223. peachesgooner says:

    Blimey we are live on ITV1 πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  224. JonJon says:

    lol…i do…

  225. avenell says:

    Hoorah jonjon..

“go to sleep my London, go to sleep”

  226. avenell says:

ITV doing the Fa cup .. that’s not normal.. I thought the Beeb and sky shared it.
At least we can watch.. πŸ™‚

  227. London says:

    Thanks JJ

  228. London says:

I think you guys a bit harsh on Merse; we all know he’s not the sharpest tool in the box but he is not that bad or am I missing something?

  229. peachesgooner says:

London – he said we are only in contention because all the others had dropped points – if we hadn’t dropped points we’d be running away with it πŸ˜›

  230. peachesgooner says:

Have to go and do a tidy up 😦 catch up tmoro …..

  231. alfamilano says:

Just noticed that Vic Akers got an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

  232. kelsey says:

    Morning rico,

I know there is a new post coming up,but here are my thoghts.

i think the away fans need a special mention.not for the first time they outsang the opposition, no mean achievement at Pompey.
I disagree about the rating for Arshavin. The guy has been playing all season with an injured right leg, and is filling a void left by RVP, in a position that is not natural to him.

Eduardo is making progress, but ever so slowly, and his facial expressions don’t give much away.

Ramsey is turning out to be the buy of the year.

Song, MOM. When did we last loan out a player(to Charlton) whohas come back and improved so much, that he is focal to the team.?

nasri’s best away peformance of the season.

I agree about Almunia, why fist a slippery ball when there is no pressure not to catch ?

Regardless of personnel,we are an attacking team and are always liable to concede the odd goal, but having said that a better keeper, who is more desisive and commands his area, is worth a good few points.

I predict that Vela will leave this summer,as AW has contradicted himself, saying he would replace Adebayor, but never starts him.

We have enough impact subs, we are really in with a chance of the title, but it is imperative that we buy in early January a striker and a no nonsense defender.

Rico we are at loggerheads about theo and AA, one of us will be proved right, but better still both of us are wrong πŸ˜‰

  233. kelsey says:

cheer up don’t be so negative. We went 22 matches unbeaten without cesc, someone will step up for Song πŸ™‚

peaches your avartar is a little shall we say non football related, naughty but nice πŸ™‚

  234. Rasputin says:

    Morning kelsey,

One man’s negativity is another’s realism πŸ˜‰ I didn’t say anything about Cesc – only that Song is the only proper holding midfielder we have in the entire squad and therefore will be missed. I don’t see any other player who will step up to fill his void. You pointed out that AA was not playing in his favoured position – I would say that DM is not the preferred position for Denilson, Diaby or Ramsey.

  235. kelsey says:

    Rasp, me old monk.

I meant everyone thought we would go to pieces last season when cesc was out of the side, you misunderstood me.

I agree with you about Song, but Diaby will be the best I can come up with to replace Song, but having said that he will always want to attack.

Happy New Year to you all.

  236. Rasputin says:

It would be a shame to dampen Diaby’s burgeoning improvement by repressing his natural ability and making him stay back and keeping it simple – he has already shown that his game is not suited to that position.

Yesterday, in the first half he received the ball at pace in midfield and turned a defender with the sort of trick that Theo can only dream of and we were off and attacking at pace just like ‘the old days’. I can only see Denilson (don’t know how long he will be injured for?)as the holding midfielder or possibly Ramsey.

  237. rico says:

    Morning Roadsters

Surely AW has to buy/loan a HM to cover for Song, he is seriously going to be missed and I stll can’t see who there is in our squad who can give what he has done this season.. 😦

AW said we are scoring goals, and true we are, but Merse did say one sensible thing after the game and that was against stronger defences, manure and the chavs we need a big out and out striker..

  238. rico says:

JJ has done a post, so I will stick it up πŸ˜‰
