Shake the hand of a man that tells you to F *** Off? Of course you would…..

No you wouldn’t, I bet there are many folk who in the ‘real world’ would have given Hughes a good old fashioned right hook!

The truth is out then, those near to the dug-outs heard Hughes hurl abuse at our boss during the game.

Having just watched sky sports this morning the sports reported for the Daily Mirror was giving his view. He says he is a great fan of Arsene Wenger and his view is that many people seem to be having a ‘free for all’ pop at our boss without cause. Both he and the reporter in the Daily Express say that had they had been verbally abused in such a manner they would have reacted the same!

Well so would I, all I would like to say to Mark Hughes is:

When you have won a few trophies by using your managerial skills rather than some wealthy man’s cheque book, come back and have a dig at our boss. But right now you have won nothing, and the way things are going you won’t be the manager at Citeh for much longer – you will be sacked and replaced by a real manager, someone who no doubt will have to sell some of the dross you have bought and start all over again!!

As Rasp said yesterday, lets hope The Chavs smash 10 past Citeh at the weekend 😛 Bugger what’s best for us just this once!

Talking of whingers, 6’ 7” star Audrey Arshavin has spouted off again, this time he says we are too short to compete with the other sides. Well yes he may be right but coming from the short arsed dumpy bum player that he is, that’s rich eh!

Everyone said yesterday how we suffer due to the lack of height in the team but why oh why does he feel the need to talk again?

Gibbs and Van Persie have both had their respective operations which have reportedly been successful, well that’s great news. Let’s hope and pray there are no hiccups and they are both back before we know it..

Later today we will hear who is out for tomorrow, sadly though the list is so long it will be quicker to write who is fit than not.

No Song, Robin, Theo, Clichy, Gibbs, Nikki, Diaby, interestingly though Clichy, Diaby and Nikki are described as being a ‘little bit short’ and Theo short term. Now that suggests to me this is the last game they will miss before they return against Liverpool.

If we can show grit and guts at home on Saturday and beat Stoke, by the time we play the dippers we will be a little stronger.

Maybe soon we will all have something to smile about again….

Maybe 😉

    Hi all,

Firstly, just going back to something Avenell and JJ were conversing about the other day regarding Henry. If you are being honest with yourselves you are defending Arsenal’s Henry, if it was Ronaldo who had done it while at United ye’d be calling for his head. Then went on to slaughter R.Keane, seen as he plays for Spurs, but its excuses like this that make it the very reason football will be dominated by cheats.

Ye even went as far as agreeing with Roy Keane.. C’MON. Seen as Arsenal have an average of ten shots on goals and should win 4/5-nil everytime will it make it okay for Rooney to punch the ball into the net the next time we play the Mancs??? Sure we never took our chances.

Henry cheated end of story. FIFA are trying so very hard to brush it under the carpet. Blatter rang Henry to ask him was he okay? Is that professional??

If what Henry did was acceptable then we can’t complain the next time Rooney dives to win a penalty or Gerrard does his star jumps cos we didn’t take our chances right???

As for the CC game I didn’t get to see it but the one against Stoke is massive that is for sure.

P.S. Not having a go at JJ or Avenell, I respect your opinions but I am not one to shy away from giving my own and at this stage I’m just sick of all the cheating and corruption in football and useless prats like Blatter making a mess of it.

Great comment Irish, my heart goes out to you and off course you are right when you say that it is Arsenal’s Henry that is being defended.

Have you found work yet? Are you looking?

  4. London says:

    A Rico Rant

I don’t think I have read one of those before, very good though 😉

I forgot to say good morning….good morning.

    Morning London

I feel quite strongly over the ‘Shaking of Hands’ – and I don’t believe any person should have to shake anothers hand if he doesnt want to, even in football..

The BBC peed off Red Nose and look what he did, and I don’t blame him either.

I also agree with Irish about the corruption and Henry! Henry cheated and won France the game. And how many times do we all moan and graon over a Gerrard dive, a Rooney dive and many other decisions that go against us??

We can’t have it both ways….

  6. rico says:

    graon = groan 😉

  7. Irishgunner says:

    Morning London and Rico.

Again I’m not claiming what I am saying is right or there is no opposing view but look at the French public, them going to the World Cup has been ruined for them.

People say wouldn’t Keane have done the same?? Don’t know because that is hypothetical, what matters is he didn’t. The penalty against Georgia was different – the ref thought it was a hand ball, no Irish player cheated in order to get it.

Of course Irish players have dived and cheated, Keane can be one of the worse so bloody ban him. Stop all this “well x,y and z did it so I will”.

UEFA wanted to ban Eduardo and handed him one yet FIFA say they will just discuss the Henry matter, why?? Did they both not reportedly try to “foul the ref”??

At the end of the day FIFA got the country at the World Cup that will generate more money. I’m not saying it was fixed but they will be happy with the result as it shows.

As for Wenger and Hughes, I actually think he should have shook his hand even if he wanted to knee him in the groin. It made Wenger look small and the media aren’t reporting that Hughes called him a “fucking wanker” – Wenger should have shown his class and be the bigger man. Only Ferguson could get away without shaking hands.

No job yet London but have a place sorted to live until the New Year so happy out (apart from 3am wake ups to see Arsenal getting beat by Chelsea) – just back from the beach actually 😉 how’s the weather in England?? 😆

  8. rico says:

    Morning Irish –

The weather is bloody cold, ice on the patio and the grass is frozen, sure beats all the wind and rain though 😆

  9. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha Rico spoke too soon we just have some thunder and lightening – price one pays for having overly warm days, it was a bit too warm today to be honest. Was stuck under the fan most the day only ventured out im the evening.

  10. rico says:

😦 Irish, keep away from the lightening…

  11. Irishgunner says:

Do’t have to tell me twice Rico – in a timber house too 😯 Its okay seems to have passed now

Must be off again, talk soon 🙂

  12. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

You are maybee right with your post rico, but Arsene has done this now on numerous occasions. I wish he would direct his anger into motivating the team for the next game and just shake hands with clenched teeth.

    Irish.. How are you doing?

In our debate the other night, I was pointing out the media witchhunt against Henry.
It is the same as it was against Eduardo. Although I blog with you I have no more affinity with Ireland than I do France. (I have loved the Irish players as much as our French ones) but it is the media bias as if Ireland are us and France are jolly foreigner.

I think they should show the penalty that Ireland got that was no way a penalty For Ireland to come back against Georgia.. Robbie Keane never put his hands up and said it wasn’t, yet the media expect Thierry Henry to do that.

Also during the France game Robbie Keane handballed on at least 2 occasions but got caught he then went on to complain to the referee that he didn’t. If the ref didn’t spot that he could have turned and scored. Would the media have said a dickie bird? That is cheating too, but Is it okay that you can cheat so far? where do you draw the line?

The officials are at fault, they should have seen the handball.

Unless there is violence or dangerous play, I think the ref should run the game within the 90 minutes and if we get a bad decision we take it on the chin.

  13. Big Raddy says:

I am surprised at the furore about Wenger’s petulance,

Of course he is petulant … the man is French !

  14. Big Raddy says:

    Well said Ave.

As the great Moody Blues said…. It is a Question of Balance

  15. avenell says:

    Morning Raddy..

I watched a documentry on Mick Fleetwood last night, I didn’t know he was born down here in cornwall, Anyway for some reason you always spring to mind when I watch those rock programs.

He must have been around when you was active in the music scene.

  16. rico says:

    Morning Raddy, ave

We finally get prime time ITV viewing for our CL game, suppose ITV have no reason to show a team that is out of the competition..

  17. avenell says:

Morning rico.. How are you now?

And how are the pups settling in with the rest of the flock?

  18. Irishgunner says:

Hiya Avenell, (and BR – congrats by the way 😀 )

“Irish.. How are you doing?” – Warm ha ha

“In our debate the other night, I was pointing out the media witchhunt against Henry.
It is the same as it was against Eduardo. Although I blog with you I have no more affinity with Ireland than I do France. (I have loved the Irish players as much as our French ones) but it is the media bias as if Ireland are us and France are jolly foreigner.”

    – I don’t see why you would or should prefer Ireland over France, it isn’t a question of preference. I actually don’t submit with the media siding with Ireland, I think it is them siding with a small footballing nation against one that a decade ago were World and European Champions who didn’t look half-arsed on the pitch and resorted to cheating.

“I think they should show the penalty that Ireland got that was no way a penalty For Ireland to come back against Georgia.. Robbie Keane never put his hands up and said it wasn’t, yet the media expect Thierry Henry to do that.” – Why pick on Robbie Keane? Was there no other Irish player around? Keane DIDN’T cheat to get that “advantage” but Henry did. How many penalties have Arsenal got that weren’t yet Arshavin last season was the only one I can remember saying it wasn’t.

“Also during the France game Robbie Keane handballed on at least 2 occasions but got caught he then went on to complain to the referee that he didn’t. If the ref didn’t spot that he could have turned and scored. Would the media have said a dickie bird? That is cheating too, but Is it okay that you can cheat so far? where do you draw the line?”

    – If Keane did what Henry did Ireland might as well not be at the World Cup. If he had done what Henry did I’d expect him to be dragged through the mud as Henry. I’d also expect Trapattoni to be a more gracious manager than that excuse Domenech. Fans generally want to win fair and so too do the players.

If Arsenal had won the Champions League in 2006 1-0, yeah we’d be all happy but it would always be there, we won by cheating, Eboue dived, everytime you’d watch the goal it would be there.

What is the line you ask? I don’t know because UEFA/FIFA don’t have a clear one do they? There is the bending of the rules but not breaking them.

If Henry handled once it was a reflex, twice it was cheating.

“The officials are at fault, they should have seen the handball.” – That is just an excuse in my opinion. You shouldn’t cheat just because you can get away with it.

“Unless there is violence or dangerous play, I think the ref should run the game within the 90 minutes and if we get a bad decision we take it on the chin.” – So Rooney diving to end our Unbeaten Run still doesn’t grate with you? Maradona punching the ball into the net is all the one cos the game is over after 90mins and the ref never say it?

Its very hard to “take something on the chin” when your country gets to a big competition once in the blue moon and when they finally have a shot the rules are changed so they have to face a seeded team and then the possibly lose out to control of the hand… but the ref didn’t see it so I should let it be??

  19. rico says:

The pups are doing really well thanks ave, in fact better than me 😉

  20. Irishgunner says:

Just in a more positive note from me (I’ve been a bit negative lately lol) great to hear big John Hartson is doing better.

He was the first player I ever wrote a letter to, though he never did write back.

With all the hand balls and World Cups at the end of the day its a few lads kicking a ball around the pitch and there are more important things, hope Big John continues to do well.

  21. avenell says:

So Rooney diving to end our Unbeaten Run still doesn’t grate with you? Maradona punching the ball into the net is all the one cos the game is over after 90mins and the ref never say it?

I don’t really care about the Maradonna one.. but yes the other one hurts.. but I can also remember that Pires dived against Portsmouth so how can I moan about Rooney?

This retrospective refereeing is okay, but where is the line going to be drawn.. Every single decision in a game that isn’t right should be reversed and all games will be replayed on TV sets in FA headquarters to get the correct result.. How sterile would that be?
Or just let the FA look at when Arsenal players do something wrong . They have ruined Dudu and his dive is one of the better ones.
Who has the right to choose which incident are to be looked at the media seem to be doing that job at the moment?

I do agree totally about FIFA changing the rules and seeding France and Portuagal and Blatter was out of order in his comments too..

  22. avenell says:

Great debate Irish, but I have to go out for a couple of hours..

Leave your comments and I will look forward to reading them when I get back in..

  23. Irishgunner says:

I see your point Avenell and I’m not trying to be so pedantic as to suggest everything be looked at but is it doing any good for football to let the diving especially continue??

It’ll be non-contact for a finish (which oddly might suit Wenger’s Arsenal) but it ain’t football.

The retrospective bans and video refs have worked quite well in Rugby Union and I honestly don’t see the two games as completely different beasts.

You still get the cheating in Rugby Union (Neil Back against Munster in the EC Final) but not on such a grand scale.

  24. Irishgunner says:

LOL this one could go on for ever and ever. The time difference ain’t helping, I must go to bed and get a good night’s sleep seen as I’ll get very little the following night (2am wake up/stay up for Stoke game)

  25. Big Raddy says:

That was an interesting and thought provoking debate.

  26. rico says:

Why can’t football just follow the way cricket is run – any doubt, refer it there and then to a third ‘umpire’ ref?

Very little time wasted and the game in which the decision counts gets the correct outcome!

If a player gets a retrospective ban after he has just won a penalty against us to win the game 1-0, we get no benefit from that player being banned for the next game or two, some other team does and we still get no points, unless of course points deduction will come in to the game as well ??

Hope that makes some kind of sense 😉

  27. Irishgunner says:

I still haven’t gone to bed – damn youtube and its funny videos.

My point is Rico that say Rooney dives to win a penalty for United against Arsenal. The act is reviewed and it is indeed confirmed he dived – he gets a three match ban and doesn’t get to play Liverpool, Real Madrid and Sunderland for arguments sake, how many three match bans do you think Ferguson will let him take for the sake of a 50/50 shot at goal??

It won’t get the points back but it will surely cut down the diving.

Having said that it’ll be tough to implement as there are a zillion camera angles and you’ll always find one where the breeze was enough to knock Drogba so that is a major flaw in my argument but jeez the diving is getting to an all time high.

Was it like that in the 70s and 80s?? I can’t remember it been that bad in the 90s but then that era is all rose tinted.

  28. Irishgunner says:

Honestly going this time, talk tomorrow 🙂

  29. avenell says:

    Right I am back..

I am with you on the retrospective bans and fines for diving as long as it is done fairly.. for Man U players too.

I don’t mind that but the outcome of the game should remain unchanged.

I think the game should be left alone.. no third umpire because Cricket is an entirely different game and it is not flowing.
What happens if the game gets stopped for a minute while Sky give the umpire all the diffent camera angles? Or are they just going to guess which one is the best angle to give him?
What happens if they are not sure if the ball crosses the line? Do they stop the game to have a look? What happens if the other team score a goal while they are looking at the diifferent angles to see if it crossed the line..?

Football is the biggest and best game in the world so it must be doing okay… Why change it?

Some of the changes are bad too like the offside rule. It was an exact rule now it is an opinion that cannot be propery policed. and It has ruined the art of defending and made it a lottery..

  30. avenell says:

As for the diving in the 70’s and 80’s .. It wasn’t as bad as it is now especially in this country..

We would frown upon cheating and when it did go on I think we were still being naive and would not believe it even if someone did..

There was only about the highlights of 6 games shown on TV in that period too and you were lucky to get 2 camera angles. So most were never seen to analize.

Oh good on Johnny Hartson.. my 2 closest neighbours told me they have both got that shocking diesese only yesterday, although one is only highly likely at the moment.. 😦

  31. rico says:

Irish – your 12.45 comment is exactly what I was trying to say, but you made it clearer, phew 😉

The player needs sending off/booking in the game he is playing in, not three weeks later 😉

  32. rico says:

ave – the 3rd umpire gets to see every camera action that is available, not just those covered by sky either, it takes seconds

  33. avenell says:

It also takes seconds to score a goal at the other end..
I bet you can score from one of the pitch to the other quciker than you can rewind the video evidence..

How long did it take Walcott to run up the other end of the field against the Dippers in the CL when knob scored?

I thought I would have a look.. turn it off after Theo passes.. 😉

  34. avenell says:

    10 seconds ish..

  35. rico says:

ave – the game stops and waits for the decision which often takes less than ten seconds – you being pick again?!

  36. peachesgooner says:

Wow thats a bit of a cerebral debate going on today. Irish we do miss your blogging, catch you tomorrow hopefully.

I think the best way to keep the game flowing would be to have time-outs – to be used by the managers only, in other words the referees or linesmen make their decisions and keep the game flowing as normal and if a manager wants to challenge a decision he would ask the 4th official to review the footage and if the referee has missed something a decision can be made about it there and then. On that basis goals can be disallowed or greater knowledge of an incedent can be made available.

Obviously someone (or me) would have to make the decision about how many time-outs should be made available in each game/half.

    What think you all?

  37. peachesgooner says:

Yes ave – you’d have to stop the game and wait for the decision 😛

  38. avenell says:

Suppose Theo picked that ball up after the ball might of crossed our line..

Do you stop the game before Theo gets his run? (it isn’t Arsenal’s fault)

Do you stop Theo as he is running (perhaps just as Ade shoots)?

Let Ade score then disallow it because the umpire has only just realized that the ball did cross the line at the other end?

    Allow both goals?

I think this is a fair point and video evidence should be kept well away from the game.

  39. peachesgooner says:

Sorry, how rude of me, I forgot to say hello.

Hello, everyone ok? rico are you feeling better?

  40. peachesgooner says:

What? I don’t understand ave – what happened before Theos run?

  41. avenell says:

Time outs are for fat americans.. that’s why American football hasn’t caught on around the world like proper football.

  42. avenell says:

I was creating a scenario Peaches .. supposing the ball may of crossed our line..

Why should the game be stopped when there has been no infringement?

  43. avenell says:

By the time this is sorted Theo has scored..

  44. avenell says:

I mean Theo has run and Greedy has scored.. 😉 you know what I meant..

  45. kelsey says:

    afternoon everyone,

the day before we play the tallest team in the league

The mighty mouse comes out with “we need taller players”.

Last week we have to buy world class players.

The week before he doesn’t feel like playing football at the moment(after Russia got knocked out of the World Cup)

The week before his wife doesn’t like London(not you london).

Any chance of concentrating on getting your best to playing football, which we know you can do.
the week before the tax rate is too high in the UK

  46. peachesgooner says:

Yes but, not every decision will be challenged if managers only have one or two chances like in the tennis…….

  47. peachesgooner says:

Wait till he realises that the snow he arrived in earlier in the year doesn’t fall at Xmas here 😀

  48. peachesgooner says:

Anyone thought of a team for tomorrow …… do we have a team for tomorrow??????????

  49. rico says:

Hi peaches, now that’s not a bad idea..

Some of the cricket is done the same way, but the captain asks for the referral, which are limited, tennis has also started to go that way

  50. rico says:

Not right yet peaches, waiting for some results 😦 Thanks though 😉

    Hi kelsey

  51. rico says:

kelsey – i am fed up with the poison dwarf keep spouting off too, not as if he is playing well is it??

  52. rico says:

I think if I was a dwarf I would have to be Arsey 😉 😉

  53. avenell says:

I think it is an over reaction to what is a few bad decisions that in the end start to even themselves out.

I strongly believe this will ruin football and will not suit teams like Arsenal who like to keep the ball flowing..

Another instance.. what would happen if fergie has never used his 2 referrals up and we was 1-0 down to man U with a minute to go plus injury time .. he could use the referrals to get a little rest bite and break up momentum in play like substitutions take up, even if they are clear cut.

To me it is like why parents cannot take pictures of there kids in a school play.. just in case a picture falls into the hands of a weirdo…

They have taken away all those great memories of millions of parents for a few nutters..

If this technology comes into the game i believe it will help to wreck it and it will be difficult to go back to how it is now..

  54. rico says:

But ave, most referrals will be after a dead ball situation, how can that be bad for football?

  55. avenell says:

They are on about starting with goal line technology.. the game should not be stopped at that point unless the officials are sure the ball has gone over the line.

A few weeks ago a linesman, a referee, and one of these new behind the goal officials all let the wrong player get sent off or booked..

To me it is a case of too many cooks..

Also if we have 5 officials for every premiership game, that means the best should be there, so the quality of refereeing in the championship will be diluted and so on down the Leagues..

I think we should pay refs top doller money and make them explain there decisions to a panel of managers players and referee’s.
If they are useless chuck them out and get better ones in..

  56. JonJon says:

    hi guys…

wow what a day…first of all good post rico…audreys being rather silly…id say so far he has been one of our worst performers against the big sides..and nobody was moaning about height when we were beating everyone 4-1…
yes we are lacking height but its not really noticable when the team are flowing….ive got a feeling we are beating ourselves more than anything..although i wouldnt complain if wenger bought a couple of pacey 6 footers in january…

as for the ireland/handball debate….for me its just a game of football so i find it totally unecessary when a player who has given so much to the game henry has done recieves death threats towards him and his family over something that happens all the time in football…as ave pointed out keane handballed several times during the game and got caught…henry didnt…the blame lies with the officials…

cheating happens all the time in football…its up to the officials to get it right…thats why we have them in the first place, there never has been and never will be such a thing as fair play….after all ireland were only given the chance to play france because the ref got the georgia penalty wrong….where was irelands fair play then????i didnt see keane turn round and say ‘no sorry ref it wasnt a pen,i dont want it’, he realised they had a chance to change the game in their favor and he snatched the ball for the penalty….now isnt that just as bad as what henry did???? after all its still cheating….

also as ave pointed out again it turned into a media witch hunt….again exposing a man to worldwilde negativity..if it was the other way round and one of keanes handballs turned into a winning goal for ireland would have there been the same kind of negative exposure henry got??? probably not…

what happened was outrageous and it was totally unfair and i felt irelands pain…after all it has happened to us several times..for and against….we would have never have won the world cup in 66 if it wasnt for hursts goal that never was…as players you know if the ball crosses the line and they still celebrated..they cheated….and then it balanced itself out after maradonnas handball….

ireland were robbed and were cheated of a chance to qualify for the worlds biggest spectacle…but again they should have never have been there…they were benefits of a pen that never was in the georgia game…

rooney cheated us in ending our unbeaten run, but that was a false unbeaten run cos of pires last minute dive against pompey and i think we were only about 5 games into the run at that point…

its swings and roundabouts….but when a man recieves death threats it makes you put it all into perspective…of course it could be a case of the henry/arsenal biased, but if irealnd would have won the same way i wouldnt have been no different in my stance…i wouldnt have cared cos i have no affinity to either ireland or france…

henry was made a scapegoat…ireland had several chances over the two legs to win the tie..but keane couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo…thats the real reason ireland got beat..if keane could finish, henrys handball would have never had would have been irrelevant…abit like mad jens sending off in the CL final…that was irrelevent…the reason we lost that game is cos henry missed three sitters…we should have been 3/4-nil up before barca even got there first….

hope that all makes sence…and if your reading this irish i do sympathise with you..although i know that helps not one bit… 😉

  57. avenell says:

Haha hi jonjon.. where was you when I was in the direct firing line?

  58. JonJon says:

i think we need technology ave…
i think the reason it makes sports like american football a shit spectacle is cos each team has about 100 chances to stop the game and get the video ref to decide whether a players shoelaces were untied before the play started…silly things like that…

like you say it depends where you draw the line but if we keep it simple and keep it to the decisions invloving goals then it should be too bad…

but i do agree if it gets silly and we start using video refs for stuff like whos throw in it is we could see football turn into a 3 hour game….

  59. JonJon says:

i was in bed mate.. 😉

ive had swine/bird/man flu the last few days so my bed has been y friend.. 😉

  60. rico says:

Hi JJ, that was one heck of an entrance 😉

  61. rico says:

I reckon, over the line for a goal, penalties/dives and horrendous fouls/tackles – that would be a good start 🙂

  62. peachesgooner says:

I agree rico – keep it simple – draw up a list of occurances that managers would like the opportunity to challenge if they feel its necessary, limit them to eg 2 per game – even that might be too many…….someone has to sensibly think about it as a way forward.

  63. JonJon says:

it was one heck of a debate rico… 😉

i see youve pointed out our injury problems against stoke..and i think thats key in defence of wengers team selection on wednesday….

stoke is a massive game…we are on two straight losses and we NEED to win to get the momentum back and keep us in the hunt…

now if we’d have played our first team on weds would it have been beneficial to our chances at the weekend??? especially if cesc would have got a knock…

stoke is a must win game and they are sort of a bogey team to us with how they play……and we are already hampered massively..why would wenger risk hampering us more for the sake of a shitty little cup that only teas like spuds take pride in winning with their first team….

  64. avenell says:

I don’t think any game should be stopped because a manager thought he saw a ball go over the line..

A game should only be stopped if a ref definitely saw something.. goal line technology is the worst..

I cannot wait to see the first experimental games of it ..stop.. sit on the ball.. watch the telly.. vote on who wins the X factor.. vote who goes out of the jungle.. ah yes the ball never crossed the line.. peep.. start again..

  65. JonJon says:

    hi peaches..

yeah rico it would be beneficial i feel…but again i see where aves coming from…where do you draw the line???

once things like that get one foot in the door they tend to get abused and over used….keeping it simple is one thing…but over time laws will be changed and elaborated and we could see video refs used for throw ins, abusing refs, who wins the toss…. silly things like that…

then we find ourselves watching a game of football that lasts 3-4 hours long…

  66. rico says:

    spot-on peaches 😉

    It was a ‘mass’ive one JJ 😉

To be fair though, what we all complain about is the penalty decisions either given or not, the offsides and whether or not the ball crosses the line for a goal – all of which usually result in the ref blowing his whistle so the game has stopped. I don’t think anyone wants to see free slowing stopped just for silly reasons!

JJ, The Stoke game is a big one for the boss, after the two losses he should be able to get them ‘up for it’, but it doesn’t help anyones confidence to hear bloody Arshavin keep writing us off each week!

    Sell him!!

  67. rico says:

ave – if you were a dwarf you would be…. Stroppy 😉

    Go Arsene 😛 😛

Wenger – No regrets over Hughes handshake

Arsène Wenger has no regrets over his failure to shake hands with Mark Hughes after the Carling Cup tie at Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Arsenal manager fully admits he is a “bad loser” but refused to go into his reasons for not congratulating his opposite number at Eastlands. The issue has been high profile in the British media this week but, at his press conference on Friday, Wenger was dismissive, citing his overall reputation as one of the game’s gentlemen.

“Tomorrow, by coincidence, I am managing my 500th [Premier League] game at Arsenal,” he began, ”and I believe I have shaken hands maybe 497 times.

“It is a ceremonial courtesy. But the most important is not the ceremonial but the courtesy of behaviour.

“I don’t deny that I am a bad loser but on this occasion I would have done exactly the same if we had won the game or lost the game. I am in accordance with the principals I think are important on the football pitch and I maintain exactly what I said and did.

“I am used to treating this kind of thing with the needed distance and I do not want to make a fuss. There are incidents on the touchline [sometimes] but you have never heard me ever say anything about another manager after the game, in a press conference or during the week after. I maintain exactly the way I behave and do not regret one second of what I did.

“But,” he concluded, “if the world has no bigger problems than this then it is not so bad.”

The next thing people will want is the teams names changed to the Hull Tigers and the Wigan Pie Eaters etc..

  70. JonJon says:

  71. London says:

The Wigan Pie Eaters……I’m still laughing 😉

  72. JonJon says:

we could turn this into a good game.. 😉

  73. rico says:

Actually ave, for you, that is very funny 😉 😉

  74. kelsey says:

sorry for butting in but why is mannone in the squad not fabianski tomorrow.

  75. JonJon says:

  76. JonJon says:

  77. rico says:

  78. rico says:

    JJ 😆

  79. kelsey says:

arsenal (from): Almunia, Sagna, Vermaelen, Gallas, Traore, Denilson, Fabregas, Nasri, Arshavin, Mannone, Eduardo, Eboue, Vela, Senderos, Wilshere, Silvestre, Ramsey, Rosicky.

  80. kelsey says:

easy draw for england yes but the odds are that we get the germans in the knockout stage.

  81. rico says:

Thanks kelsey, hope fabianski is not injured again, ave will want him sold 😉 😉

  82. JonJon says:

    good squad…

    bring the germans on..

  83. avenell says:

No I quite like him.. I think Mannone is the one surplus.. but with our injury problems..

I hope England go out in the group stages.. I want total embarssment.. Rooney sent off and A Cole own goal..

  84. rico says:

  85. kelsey says:

apparently walcott is not injured, they are saving him for the world cup 🙂

  86. JonJon says:

    lol kelsey…

if we dont get a run of games out of that boy and then he ends up trundling off to the world cup i reckon wengers gotta sell him…

cos i think hes taking the piss out of us as it is…

  87. London says:

Never mind selling him, under those circumstances I reckon Wenger should shoot him.

  88. Irishgunner says:

” I don’t mind that but the outcome of the game should remain unchanged.” – I’m not asking for results to change Avenell just retrospective banning which has happened.

JJ – You mentioned no player should be on the end of death threats and I totally agree. However you never clarified that the death threats Henry received came all from France. If anything the Irish officials and players acted well in my view. The majority blamed the officials and lack of technology. Even Duff said all Henry was doing was chancing his arm. Henry is the butt of jokes (and a bit of disgust) in Ireland but nobody wants to kill him, that’s just silly and if the French want to be silly there is nothing the Irish can do about it. It was blown up by the international media straight away before the FAI got involved. There was no Irish players at the end harassing the ref or running up to the camera calling it a “fucking disgrace”. Even Keane, Trap etc have admitted that it was least good of Henry to man up and admit he handled it. Ireland went after FIFA and their Fair Play remit not Henry.

Again you went back to the Georgia penalty – you can’t claim we only finished 2nd because of that penalty. Yes it changed the course of the game but 1) Keane didn’t cheat to get it (as opposed to Henry) 2) There was still plenty time left in that game left 3) We finished well ahead of Bulgaria and Cyprus

Avenell – The video technology would work. It works perfectly well in rugby. It won’t be used and called for everything. The video ref would be watching at all times.

Back to Arsenal LOL – glad to see more are getting a bit tired of Arshavin and his talking, he could do a bit more on the pitch himself.
