‘Phew’ says Arson – It could have been worse…….

That’s an expression I really dislike!

Being the sufferer of bad bones as I am, in the days when I lived with my Mother and would be in dreadful pain and discomfort, she would often say, well think youself lucky, look at so and so up in the village, she’s in a wheelchair with her Arthritis!!

I replied, ‘Mum, she is 86 years old, I am still very young’. ‘Well’ she would reply, ‘I could be worse’!! Arrrrggg!!

Arson is so right though, had Gibbs and van Persie’s injuries been a lot more severe than we would all be pretty down. Thankfully though the Boss says Kieran should be back midweek for the Champions League game and Robin should be back in time for his Christmas Pudding!

Arson, it could have been a whole lot better too if you could learn to tell our players that international friendlies are not worth the trouble! Just stop them going and this kind of thing won’t happen!

What’s going on in this crazy world of football, Big Sol has said we are the best, he is currently staying fit by training with us, and says this:-

“I am training at Arsenal and keeping fit, which is the main thing and that, is fantastic,” he continued.
“I needed to train somewhere, Arsene [Wenger] has done me a great favor and you can’t do any better than Arsenal.”

Even old Brucie Boy has said he owes our boss big time following the loan deals of Bendtner, Muamba and Larsson – Brucie reckons we have a genius for a manager and a great crop of young players. The future is bright for us he says…

Good man, we have known that for ages Brucie, but it’s good to hear ex pro’s like you come out and say such a thing, especially when those idiots on Sky and the BBC keep saying we are too young, lack experience blah, blah, blah!!

You are right, we have a very bright future ahead of us at Arsenal and Liam Brady confirms that too. He has told afc.com that Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere are just the beginning of a large bunch of youth ready to burst on to the scene.

Bit of injury news – Fabianski, Vela, Denilson and Traore are now off the injured list, Diaby and Walcott are close to a return. I suspect we will see of four above on the bench for Sunderland with Walcott and Diaby taking their seats in the week. Gibbs will be back before The Chav game too, which is good news.

On to Sunderland, I have gone from thinking that Sagna should move to LB with Eboue playing RB to thinking JonJon is right, we shouldn’t have a right footed player playing on the left so now I think Arson has a big decision to make.

Mind you Flamini did ok if my memory serves me right! 😉

Silvestre is a left footed defender, and for the Mancs he often played in the LB position. Surely this is the kind of game where he can be used to cover for Gibbs who is covering for Clichy.
If he doesn’t play there on Saturday, why the heck are we keeping him? Why the heck are we wasting money paying his wages if he is only going to be a bit of experience to add to the Carling Cup team? No, if he doesn’t play then let’s ship him out and use the money to secure Merida’s future!

Not a lot of other gossip in the papers this morning, the back pages are still focusing on Thierry Henry and how is has the new ‘Hand of God’! Even ex Gooners Winterburn and Dixon have joined in and branded him a cheat!

Have a great day folks – tomorrow is match day.

😛

    Morning Roadsters

Not much, but match day tomorrow so hopefully a bit more..

    Morning Rico

Hopefully you realise by now that I am a big fan of your posts, I read them slowly and carefully every morning. I like to try and work out your formula, your style so to speak. I probably do this because I know that I cannot write posts like that myself. I just don’t seem to be able to gather up the morning’s tid-bits and turn it into a post in the way you so ably do. I have watched them develop and notice this morning that you have added a new ingredient — provocation, every blog needs it and we both know that there is one blog in particular that has practically turned it into an art form. I like the Flamini retort and, of course, you are absolutely right. So, in the spirit of this new found provocation and the mention of Silvestre I feel it only right that I should take the bait and reply — Silvestre is there in case both Gallas and Vermaelen get injured in the same game, on Saturday for example; and, we should be in no doubt, it could happen: Silvestre is Wenger’s inexpensive insurance policy.

  3. rico says:

    Morning London, great comment.

I would have agreed with you once about Silvestre, but having read afc.com, this morning I can’t 😉

Mikael is one of the most decorated footballers in Premier League history and the most experienced man in the Arsenal squad.
The French defender signed on a two-year deal from Manchester United in August 2008 and has proved to be a valuable squad member ever since.

Mikael’s versatility is well known – he can operate at left-back as well as his more familiar centre-back role – and he made 23 appearances in all competitions last season

  4. rico says:

That bit about Silvestre is from afc.com London, not a pompass reply from me about him 😉 😉

    London

I know you are referring to Le Grove and I have to say, I love reading their post’s each morning and you are right of course about the provacation. That is what attracts so many bloggers to the site. If we could one day get just a tenth of the amount of comments LG does, I would be really happy..

  6. London says:

    Rico

You succeded admirably on the weekend.

I am confused about your comment, what is written about Silvestre on AFC.COM that stops you agreeing?

  7. JonJon says:

    i totally agree with london…

    nice one rico…

maybe wenger might think at silvestres age he doesnt want him playing anywhere else but CB…so maybe we might see TV pushed out to LB because he is a pacey goalscoring left footed defender, whereas slilvy just hoofs it..

so maybe the defensive lineup could be

    sagna gallas silvy TV ???

im also with londons theory on silvy that although he isnt everyones favorite cup of tea, there is no other defender with silvys experience at PL and international level that would prepare to sit on our bench and be happy to be 100th choice backup…

he might not even play saturday, we may see senderos or even song back there..ive heard denilsons back for the weekend so wenger might think to put denilson in the middle and drop song back..

point is even with all our injuries wenger has so many options..whereas last year when we had injuries wenger had no options

  8. rico says:

That is a LB aswell as a CB, I honestly dont think Arson expected Gibbs to do as well as he has and Silvestre was bought in as cover for Clichy.

I would think that Djourou and Senderos would be the first two to cover for TV/Gallas as Silvestre is a tad slow, even slower than Phil 😉

I just hope other than in the CC I never get to see Silvestre in our heart of defence, it would remind me too much of the Cygan and Stephanov (spelling) days
    😦 😦

  9. rico says:

Ok, now its 2 against 1, i will agree to disagree 😉

    Morning JonJon 😛

  10. rico says:

May I have a bet with you both though?

Silvestre plays LB against Sunderland 🙂 🙂

  11. JonJon says:

i think silvy will probably be favorite rico as i really cant see wenger breaking the gallas/tv partnership up…

but its good to discuss these things..

    morning guys…

  12. London says:

    Rico

Just so I have got this absolutely clear, are you saying that you expect Silvestre to play LB or not?

I can’t believe Rasputin hasn’t been on this morning, he usually loves these ones.

  13. rico says:

I dont want him to JJ, they are doing so well – saying that Gallas and Sagna had a tough 120 minutes on Wednesday so I wouldn’t be surprised if he chooses to rest them both for Senderos and Eboue.

Personally though I would rest them for the CL game in midweek rather than Saturday, we need three points big time 🙂

  14. rico says:

London – I think Silvestre will play LB 🙂

  15. rico says:

This is the team I think Arson will play…

    Almunia

    Sagna TV Gallas Silvestre

    Cesc Song Rosicky

    Nasri Eduardo Arshavin

Actually I fib, thats who I hope he plays

  16. JonJon says:

bloody hell…is anyone watching roy keanes interveiw..its amazing..hes attacking the ireland team and the ifa…wow

  17. rico says:

Bugger, missed it JJ its old red nose and fat sam now 😉

  18. JonJon says:

rico..good point about sagna and gallas…i also think wenger will rest them against liege…

  19. JonJon says:

i really want to speak to irish..i want to know what shes feeling about all this…

roy keane just smashed into ireland saying they were poor and they didnt deserve to win at all…he said why was the ball allowed to bounce in the box anyway…they missed chances and they were poor through the whole qualifying phase…he said the IFA werent maoning when they were given a penalty against georgia when the game was 0-0…he said donelly wasnt moaning about fair play then…and he slagged him off more by saying he was underhand at the last world cup…

    it was truly staggering…

  20. JonJon says:

wenger doing a conference in defence of henry live on SSN this afternoon…

  21. rico says:

And we only need a point on Tuesday JJ, at home we should be able to win three big points, secure top of the group and score enough to fill a huge hat 🙂

Arsene i/v on sky at 12.30..

  22. JonJon says:

i just chuckled to myself…i had visions of henry sat at home in a state of depression over whats happened and he rings wenger for help…

being like a father wenger says of course, and calls a press conference…

  23. rico says:

    spooky JJ 😉

  24. JonJon says:

yeah, we could see the CC team for the CL team now rico, we are practically through, so its a good opportunity to give those young players some CL experience, and it rests our PL players for the 6 pointer against chelsea…

  25. London says:

Well at least we are starting to be able to talk about real football again.

I love playing the game of guess the Wenger selection and it doesn’t get more challenging than tomorrow. JJ is right in the fact that the big difference between this year and last is that Wenger has so many options available to him.

I also think he will be very radical tomorrow.

I feel certain that Arshavin will be rested, that to me is a banker. I have also been toying with the idea that he might even rest Gallas but if he doesn’t I feel certain that he will be playing as per usual alongside Vermaelen as I cannot see him playing Belgium’s best at LB even though he is the most qualified.

I am going to stick my neck out and say that Wenger will play Eboue there.

I am hoping that he rests Song, it makes sense for him to sit this one out as by doing so he will definitely avoid another yellow card and therefore ensure that he will be available for the all important Chelsea game. If Song is to be rested then Denilson will certainly start.

I expect to see both Nasri and Rosicky in the starting line; this definitely is a case of if they are fit and are not selected what are they doing at the club?

And so ladies and gentlemen I give you my team.

    ———Almunia
    Sagna,Gallas,Vermaelen,Eboue
    ———-Denilson
    Ramsey,Rosicky,Fabregas,Nasri
    ———-Eduardo

  26. rico says:

😛 JJ, old father time ……

Its funny, on one hand (excuse the pun) i think TH is a big fat cheat, but on the other hand I ask myself would I have done the same….

Yep is my answer, and looking back, I did 😳

  27. London says:

Looking at my team again, if it wasn’t for Eboue playing out of position I think that selection would beat Barcelona twelve nil

  28. rico says:

Blimey London, thats quite a change…

  29. JonJon says:

im honest when i say it doesnt change my opinion on henry…

i remember once, along time ago, when a certain mr pires dived in the box against pompey in the final minutes of the game and it earned us a draw….that draw ensured us an unbeaten season that season….pires is a legend round these parts, and thats the most blatent act of cheating ive ever seen…but we dont care do we?? hes still the man…

when maradonna did it against england nobody gave us a replay…

  30. rico says:

JJ, nah, me neither, I shook the great mans hand and will always love him… He is still a cheat though 😉 😉 As is Bobby, Van N, Gerrard, Lumpard, Terry, Rooney, all the Italian players…… need I say more 😉

  31. rico says:

Now that has made me chuckle London, i love your confidence 🙂

  32. JonJon says:

    london

    or….

    v sunderland

    eboue song TV slivy

    v leige

    eboue sendros slivy gibbs

    v chelsea

    sagna gallas TV Gibbs

    😉

  33. JonJon says:

rico, they are footballers, they all cheat….all the time..

thats why we have officials in the bloody first place…

  34. JonJon says:

why are they turning the whole fiasco into a financial thing???

    its a game of football…

why are they bringing up irelands politics…???

  35. London says:

It’s simple, if Henry had been an Arsenal player there is no way in the world that we would be entertaining the idea that he might be a cheat, the only reason we are now is because he has moved to the club that plays the second most entertaining football in the world. As for Pires, that would be up there with suggesting that Mary wasn’t virgin when she gave birth to Jesus…there are some things that we just do not question 😉

  36. JonJon says:

    LMAO…london

  37. rico says:

As do all sportsmen and women, at least he isn’t taking performance enhancers or missing drug tests 😉 😉

    I shall move on 😉 😉

  38. London says:

    JJ

I like all your selections, the only one I would change is Senderos for Song against Sunderland, Christ it’s only Darren Bent it’s not like it is Drogba.

  39. rico says:

    Ha ha London 😆

  40. rico says:

I hope Bent isn’t on form or he could cause us problems 😉

  41. JonJon says:

    your on form today london…

    lol

    rico..

this is where we probably need to start using technology….we have the technology to stop this sort of thing….

its obvious we need officials as all footballers cheat…and its obvious those refs need help..some of the decisions ive seen over the last few years have been diabolical…and in the big games too….

its getting out of hand…im all for technology..

    roy keane on next guys…

  42. JonJon says:

does anyone remember that goal last season where it went out for a goal kick and the ref blew for a goal…amazing…it was bristol city i think…the other team wanted a replay but they wouldnt give them it…lol…

but it had happened to bristol earlier in the season..the exact same thing…and they didnt demand a replay so they didnt see why they should give one the second time..lol

can anyone beleive the ref in that match was stuart attwell and now hes a PL ref….

hes shit…he fucks upin all the big games and even the commentators take the piss…

they say hes been fastracked and it shows..lol

  43. rico says:

That game was Reading v Watford I think JJ, not being a know all, it’s just I follow Reading a bit..

I dont know what all the fuss and red tape is about tv replays, cricket and rugby use it and it doesn’t exactly hold either up.

I say get it in, stop the cheats and lets watch football at its best. A few bans for the cheats will soon put a stop to it all..

  44. ganesh says:

Sry Rico missed u r last posts .. Jus now read them .. Lookin forward to the weekend n wan Ramsey to start .. Who’ll be the LB mate .. Traore or will he gamble wit Eboue ?!?!?

  45. JonJon says:

it sounds funny but watching roy keanes rant brings something home for me….if it happened to england id be as critical of the team too…

not many of us give a toss about england now, so if that happened to us id be the same..i wouldnt care about politics or handballs..id of been saying why werent we 4-0 up…

  46. rico says:

Hi ganesh – none of us know yet about the LB, but its good fun speculating 😉

I don’t think he will play Traore as Arson has said he is too offensive..

  47. JonJon says:

    hi ganesh..

dont you fancy giving sagna a rest after weds 120 minutes??? and letting eboue play RB…

then maybe silvestre or traore at LB…maybe TV???

  48. rico says:

That’s how it has been for the last few seasons for us JJ, so many around the blogs were talking about the penalty here, foul there etc, yet we were missing chance after chance to finish the game off, chances that would have made the dodgy decisions irrelevant..

I was one of those too, its almost like we have to justify not winning and want to look for someone else to blame, rather than seeing what is so very obvious…

CC v Burnley springs to mind 😦

  49. rico says:

I have just seen what Keane said, he has a darn good point! Credit where credit is due..

  50. rico says:

Got to go for a while guys 😦 back a bit later

  51. ganesh says:

Hi Rico n Jonjon .. Jon ure ryt abt Sagna .. He deserves a rest .. So Eboue at RB n Traore at LB i feel cos he sticks wit playin players in their correct posns .. And He wont sep Gallas n Verminator partnership unnecesssarily as in this case .. So tat’ll be the def i feel .. Fab n Song n Ramsey in mid .. Rosicky, Edu n Arsh .. Nasri sub .. Dude is Arshavin fit aftr Int assignments .. Will he play ?!?

  52. JonJon says:

    you are correct rico…

it was that game, i thought it was bristol as i have an image in my head of their manager saying it happened to them on SSN…maybe he was just commenting on the incident..

atwell also was the ref who forgot bobby robsons minutes applaused at WBA and let the players start the game…idiot..

and he was the ref who sent off that austrian bloke who was fouled by howard in the wolves everton game…

howard grabbed him by the throat and threw him down and howard got let off and the austrian bloke got sent off?????????

    muppet

  53. JonJon says:

ganesh, theres certain sections of the faithful who think AA will be rested…

  54. JonJon says:

i enjoyed the wenger interview….and he was right..

  55. ganesh says:

Oh Arsh rested uh .. Then i guess Nasri n Rosicky shud start .. We’ll see!!!

  56. London says:

That’s interesting….Walcott has been confirmed in the squad for tomorrow and Wenger always starts with him. In which case I will adjust my guess at Wenger’s team to be:

    ———Almunia
    Sagna,Gallas,Vermaelen,Eboue
    ———-Denilson
    Walcott,Rosicky,Fabregas,Nasri
    ———-Eduardo

  57. ganesh says:

Walcot is sooo cool .. Hope he starts n doesnt get injured .. We need him more in chelski game wen Cashley is out!!!

  58. London says:

    Hi Rico

I have spent the afternoon trying to work out why I am more tolerant of Silvestre than you are. When I first read your comment above in which you put him in the same category as Cygan and Stepanov I sort of understood it but something inside didn’t quite agree but I didn’t know why.

The only way I can think of answering it is like this: Cygan and Stepanov were both young enough to be considered as potential first team players and that was a scary prospect considering their lack of talent; but the same is not true of Silvestre, his role is solely back up; there is no chance of him ever being considered as a regular first team player; so, bearing that in mind, I don’t think that it is fair to put him in the same category, furthermore, with his patience to sit on the bench on the off chance that Gallas, Vermaelen, Djourou, Sendreros and Song get injured then I arrive at the conclusion that we are lucky to have him.

  59. rico says:

London – I think its because all three scare me when they are in the team, i just used to be waiting for the error, and sadly now the same with Silvestre. Dont get me wrong, I know he has bucket loads of experience, but my theory is if he wasn’t good enough for old red nose…… 😉

  60. JonJon says:

    i agree with london…

thats the way i see it….i dont really want him in the first 11..but im quite happy for him to be 5th choice…and he seems happy with that too…

we all know silvestre was a stop gap signing..and it gave wenger more time in discovering TV…wenger said in the defence of signing silvestre last year, that he signed him because he wanted a left footed CB but where could he find one???

  61. JonJon says:

and i agree with rico.. 😉

silvestres pretty risky,i think hes lost it but against the little teams he still has something to offer…

which is why i think putting him in the CC team was a masterstroke…im happy for him to play there…

  62. London says:

    Fair enough Rico

It’s been good today, made all the better by having you back JJ.

I have just found out who is showing the game live tomorrow……..Sky Italia, I recommend that you ask all the Italian bars you know in your area to see if they are showing it, I did, and I have found one…….Va bene, tutti va bene……that’s “Yippy” in Italian.

  63. rico says:

Is this boys against girls today 😉 😉

I don’t disagree with you theory about why Arson bought him and why we have his bum on the bench, but for me, that is the only place I hope to see him 😉

But then I could say the same about Big Phil….

I am getting to fussy in my old age ?? 😉 😉

  64. rico says:

    😉 London…

We are lucky to have an local pub London, Italian bars? No chance 😦

  65. rico says:

I will agree with you on one thing today London, and that is its great to see more of JonJon 😛 😛

  66. JonJon says:

    london, thats a great idea..lol

im going to try it tomorrow…i know a couple of italian bars that serve food as well…if they show it i might order some of italias finest cuisine and sit and watch the game..kill too birds and all that..

  67. London says:

    Dinner calls, later

  68. JonJon says:

seeya london…and ive had a few days off so ive had some spare time on my hands and its been good to blog with you all properly again.. 😉

  69. rico says:

Its lovely to see more of you JJ, shame that ave, peaches, Rasp and kelsey haven’t been able to be on here aswell 😦

Dinner calls me now too, be good all 😉

  70. Rasputin says:

    Hi Roadsters,

Sorry I haven’t been about today – especially when there has been such a lively debate! I have classes on fridays and so can’t blog much…..

Right … just to put you all straight…..

Sylvestre WILL play at LB tomorrow, I can’t understand why you are even debating it

Even if TH were playing for Arsenal still, I would consider him a cheat. In some ways it was a selfless act as he did it for his country (misguidedly) and is suffering the consequences. I feel sorry for him because this will tarnish his memory forever.

Lastly, Talkshite has been at its very worst today and suggests that Arsenal should be held responsible for a player who left 3 years ago and plays for Barca. UEFA made a huge mistake when they decided to victimise Dudu. There was not precident and far worse happens in the Spanish and Italian leagues on a weekly basis. By then losing the ‘prosecution’ they did set a precident and are terrified of the ramifications if they lose again. To put it in the strictly technical sense, they are a bunch of sycpohantic, jingoistic, nepotistic TOSSERS…..

  71. Rasputin says:

Rico, I just spelt my name wrong again so a copy of the above has gone into moderation … please bin it!!

  72. rico says:

Hey Rasp, great to see you, especially as you agree with me 😉 😉

Your last paragraph – i am only just able to stand from rolling around laughing… what jerks they are, oh, and tossers 😳 did i just say something rude!

  73. rico says:

your duplicate is in the trash Rasp 😉

  74. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

Congrats on such a vibant day on AR – you don’t need the ‘ol stagers with a response like that. It shows that sites thrive on controversy and healthy debate … even though I’m always right 😳 its stimulating to have others disagreeing

  75. rico says:

    Thanks Rasp,

I disagree, AR needs us all, and i hope real soon we have a day where we are all back at the same time – hopefully by then a few new faces would have joined too… Slowly but surely..

Its past my bedtime, I have to sleep early as I usually wake around 2am wondering what to write about!!

And if you believe that, then you would also believe that Arson will spend £30M in January, one defender and one midlfielder 😉 😉

    Night night all

  76. ganesh says:

Hi Rico ,Jon jon ,London n Rasp n all ..Grt day .. Myt be one of the most imp matches for us this year .. A tuf away game n three pts is a must for our title challenge .. Will be grt to wach altho ill be bitin ma nails of aftr Arsenal leads cos tat wen they look more like conceding 🙂 😛

  77. ganesh says:

And speakin on song’s yello card issue, i think he’ll still start wit Song cos this is an equally imp game like chelsea n if by 60 mins we’ve closed the curtains on Sunderland he’ll replace Song wit Denilson ..Else he’ll play him tell the end .. This wat i feel .. So we myt have a chance of seeing a bit of Denilson today .. Also Walcott in aftr 70 mins for a workout will be cool .. Stretching their LB .. So looks like our subs are goin to enjoy the show if we manage to kill the game by 60 mins or so!! 🙂

  78. rico says:

    Morning ganesh, Roadsters

    new post up
