Free The ‘Arsenal One’

What’s good for the Goose isn’t always the same for the gander in Arsenals case.

Ever since the Paul Davis incident back in 1988, which I believe was the first instance of cameras being used retrospectively in a football match, we have been treated unfairly by the footballs powers that be.

The situation was similar to this Eduardo one, the media overreacted and backed the Football League into a corner, then they in turn overreact to get out off.

Apart form the slight difference that it is not in every game that someone left hooks an opposing player, but in just about every game a player dives to deceive the referee.
Paul Davis got a NINE match ban for that incident, NINE. Oh and a £3,000 fine, that was back in the day when that was a week or more wages. That’s a £100,000 fine in Chelsea wages terms.
That virtually ruined Paul’s career, he never got near the England squad again.
There was no rules in place before that happened the FA or Football League, whoever was in charge then made them up as they went.

Now the same is happening to Eduardo,  even if it wasn’t a penalty, we are getting singled out by UEFA, the sweaty socks are saying in September 2007 UEFA took action on a Lithuania player and set the precedent..
Hold up! What have UEFA and every other organization been watching for the last 2 years????

“I did not see it” and people take the piss out of Arsene..

The press and media have been misreading the quotes coming out of Arsenal.

Here is the official statement.

We have been informed that we will receive a “reasoned decision” from Uefa by Thursday of this week. Once we receive Uefa’s rationale, we will make a decision on the next steps.

We have been deeply frustrated by the perfunctory and apparently arbitrary process that Uefa has followed in this instance. We believe it is imperative that Uefa’s explanation for its decision provides clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced.  It is also critical that Uefa provides specific details of the processes it plans to adopt in reviewing all games under its jurisdiction.

Just treat us fairly as an Arsenal fan, I don’t want no more or no less, Eduardo must be wondering why the hell he decided to come to this country to earn his living. If Glenn Hoddle’s theory on reincarnation is to be believed Dudu must of done something extremely bad in a previous life.

I hope UEFA, the FA,  etc  have facilities to watch You Tube clips because there email will be full of them.

Also can anyone tell me why homophobic and racist chants are worse than being called a Paedophile?

I would say they all should be treated as bad as each other… but then again the latter is aimed at our Arsene so that means it is okay..

Yesterdays transfer window deadline was a bit of a damp squib for us, but then again there was no team setting the world alight with big signings, just Portsmouth and a few other Mickey Mouse teams picking up a few scrap players.

It’s going to be a slow week or so until the Citeh game, but I am sure Toure and Lazy Ade will help us to look forwards to that game with some classy titbits.
Have a great cold September day Roadsters.

Morning again.. I am nipping out for an hour so anyone in moderation waiting for their comment to show, bear with me.. 🙂

    UEFA is ridiculous.
    FA is ridiculous.
Wenger is … well, you know…

  3. memunish says:

Diving as an offence should be punished but it should be done consistently. There are many others players who dive regularly, they should be punished as well.

Morning Memunish, welcome to Avenell Road..

Oh, and exactly right.. The same for everyone.

Hi ARSLthruNthru.. Welcome to Avenell Road.. sorry for any delay..

  8. rico says:

Afternoon all, good to see some new faces 😛

  9. Irishgunner says:

    Evening all,

    Initernational week *boring*

  10. rico says:

Thats a good read ave, and Irish and I were talking about the chants the other day that have been constantly directed towards our manager, you know the one, the man who lives happily with his partner and their child !

Maybe its about time those who hear such chants towards AW should make their feelings know to the authorities – maybe it is indeed time for Arsene himself to wake up and start playing the same game as those around want to play – he should go to the FA/UEFA with evidence of these chants and make it official – they acted in the case of Sol, and rightly so – they should now take the same action against fans who conduct themselves in such a way towards our boss!

I think the club will appeal, and Dudu’s ban will be reduced to one match.

  11. Irishgunner says:

Bendtner and Denilson have got new contracts.

  12. Irishgunner says:

On your last post Rico – There is an Amazon boycott been started as they see fit to sell the Wenger chant.

  13. rico says:

Hi Irish – well I used to be a big shopper on Amazon, that has just ceased!!

  14. Irishgunner says:

You along with many others Rico.

  15. rico says:

I can’t believe they would be so bigoted, let’s hope it really affects their business…

  16. rico says:

Can’t believe Denilson has only been with us since 2006 – it seems like many more than three years that I have been slating him 😉 😉

  17. rico says:

I love this lad – and I am so so pleased he didn’t get loaned out..

    😛

Merida – First-team step was a great moment
After making his long-awaited step into Arsenal’s first-team squad, Fran Merida has set his sights firmly on a place in Arsène Wenger’s first XI.

It has been a long road for the cultured Spaniard who first touched down at the Club in the summer of 2006 just months after his 16th birthday.

In addition to occasional Carling Cup outings – and a loan spell at Real Socieded during 2008 – Merida has been a mainstay in Neil Banfield’s Reserve team since his arrival. And, after consistent progression as a highly-technical midfielder in the second-string, the 19-year-old was officially promoted to the first-team during the summer.

It may have been a long time coming for Merida, but his self-confidence never wavered along the way.

“When Pat Rice told me I was moving into the first-team dressing room it was a great moment,” the Spaniard told Arsenal.com after starring in the Reserves’ victory over Birmingham on Tuesday night.

“Of course I was always confident, if I thought ‘I can’t do this’ then there’s no point. I always believed I could do it and now I am part of this fantastic team with great players.

“I am very pleased, very happy because it has been three or four seasons. You have to stay patient, I always was and I know I am there now.

“I am just going to work even harder to get my chance. I know the players will help me so I’m looking forward to a fantastic season.”

Merida got his latest first-team taste during pre-season. First he featured in both Emirates Cup victories before coming on as a second-half substitute away at Valencia.

For a young Spaniard, it was a “special” summer.

“Atletico Madrid were my club when I was little,” he explained. “I was a big supporter and it was a strange feeling playing against them, I admit!

“The Emirates Cup was nice because it is in front of the fans and always against some great clubs. For me it was fantastic, I wasn’t expecting the call-up and I really enjoyed it.

“Valencia are a big team in Spain so that was fantastic. I had all of my family there watching because my house is only about two hours from the Mestalla. It was a special day and another chance for me.”

  18. rico says:

    Off for a bit 😦

  19. avenell says:

    Good afternoon..

What’s happened to Vela? Has he been on the subs bench yet or is he injured?

  20. Irishgunner says:

Vela has a ankle injury. He is in some sort of a cast.

  21. avenell says:

I didn’t realise that his injury from international duty was that bad..

    We are sooooo unlucky.

  22. Irishgunner says:

I think the problem is Avenell that he got injured and shouldn’t have played but got an injection and did more damage – not sure if this is correct but is what I heard.

  23. peachesgooner says:

Where is the logic in the Eduardo decision

    1. A player receives 1 yellow card for diving – Eduardo may receive a 2 match ban

    2. There is a campaign for showing respect to referees – what kind of respect have UEFA shown by completely ignoring the referees decision

    3. How are UEFA going to manage the complaints by all the other European clubs who feel a referees decision was flawed post game?

I’m in 2 minds as to whether I want the ban to be enforced in order to see what happens next or for UEFA to capitulate and diving to continue……

  24. London says:

I am very surprised to read that Fran Merida is an Athletico Madrid fan. For a Catalan supporting Athletico Madrid and wearing their shirt in Barcelona would be as popular as Irishgunner supporting Glasgow Rangers and wearing the Ger’s shirt in the West of Ireland. Maybe a Rangers shirt is a bit too strong as that hate figure would probably be represented by Real Madrid; perhaps, the equivalent would be wearing a Hearts shirt. Either way, it is weird. That said, I watched him play last night when and that young man did not just produce his usual crisp passing, efficient game; he was playing very differently, last night he was playing with a swagger and more relevantly, he was wearing an Arsenal shirt.

  25. London says:

    Hello Peaches

I didn’t see you there when I posted.

  26. peachesgooner says:

Hi London – did you know that Merida has been elevated to the first team squad – very exciting, I’ve watched him in the reserves and hes a nice quiet talent 🙂

Maybe its safe for him to come out and say hes an Athletico Madrid supporter here in London 😉

He can play on the left and was very impressive in mid-field alongside Coquelin when I saw him – where did he play last night?

  27. London says:

He played alongside Coquelin, who was also very impressive. But where as I expect Merida to make more cameo appearances as the season progresses, I don’t expect to see Coquelin until next season, apart from the CC maybe; he might get on for part of those.

  28. PDT says:

    Good evening/morning!

Excellent post, Ave! We have always been discriminated against and the Eduardo ban is no different. UEFA has demonstrated that they are more concerned with keeping David Taylor happy than doing the right thing.

To be fair, we got some nice decisions when Dein was VC of the FA.

    Bring Dein back!

  29. PDT says:

Does Giggs still play for Wales? Is he the reason why Arshavin is so keen to get back on the pitch in their game against Wales?

Very happy to see that Denilson and Bendtner have signed long term deals. Denilson is a solid performer who will give us long, albeit unspectacular service.

  30. rico says:

PDT – I just read your link, it’s a strong piece, a good piece.

It seems a few of the papers are covering this today which has to be a good thing long term, not nice for AW to see it all yet again. 3.48 yesterday I said exactly the same thing, the club and fans alike need to start making complaints, and lets get these ‘scumbags’ banned..

  31. rico says:

I love the article in the Mirror, and I agree with him, Stevie me me me would be a hero with many England fans, but not me thats for sure!

  32. rico says:

Good news that Nikki and Denislon have secured long contract extensions – that ensures we can get a good price for them next summer 😉 😛

  33. rico says:

Right, off to tidy up the garden while the sun shines..

  34. PDT says:

    Good morning!

I liked the Mirror story, Rico.

Not much happening….is Adebayor playing this weekend? Gallas had no sympathy fo him and TV doesn’t know him, so I would guess he will get the treatment…

  35. peachesgooner says:

Hi PDT – the Man City game isn’t until the following weekend, this weekend we are blessed with International football.

Irish – I’m not sure I agree with you re Cascarino because I don’t think any manager would want his player to be the scapegoat which is what he is asking Wenger to allow Eduardo to be. If Wenger felt that justice was going to be done all round then maybe yes but I feel that there won’t actually be any improvement in the way UEFA deal with serial divers following this incedent.

I’m not running away from you, but I have to go out for a couple of hours so maybe you can try to convince me otherwise when I get back 😉

  36. avenell says:

Afternoon all.. what’s all this about Chelsea not being able to sign anyone for 18 months?

  37. rico says:

Woop Woop, make my day punks 😛

The Russian’s are banned from transfers having enduced a player to break his contract at Lens – Lens complained and yo ho ho, good on them….. 😛

    Afternoon everyone

  38. rico says:

It gets better, they have also been ordered to pay £113,500 compensation, and Karuta/Chelsea have to also pay £632,000 to Lens – Karuta also banned for four months 🙂

  39. avenell says:

It wouldn’t affect us we don’t sign anyone anyway.. 😦

If I was a Chelsea player, I would get in that office and get a pay rise a bit sharpish.. 😉

  40. rico says:

Its great news ave, this could be the the pair of boots that make Roman walk !

What I would like to know though, why didn’t all this happen when they tapped up Ashley Cole ? Same principle?

  41. rico says:

But we signed TV ave, without him we would be far worse off..

Hi raif – great news eh 🙂

  42. rico says:

Also, SSN’s show us a signing another player – Drench??

  43. raif says:

    hi there rico ..

and i agree this should have happend after cold gate.. but fifa are hypicrits they wouldnt have done anything if another english club complaint. if they ever wanted to complain in the first place.

tho i do wonder what players wouldnt have never have gone to chelsea if they had a 2 window ban after cole gate

  44. rico says:

Not many raif, they wouldn’t have been able to 😉

  45. rico says:

    Breaking news….

We are appealing the two match given to Eduardo, no surprise really…

And door handle Rooney say’s that ‘divers’ are cheating the fans – Good lad Wayne, guess you owe an awful lot of Manure and England fans a whole lot of cash – you cheat!

  46. rico says:

Just realised, that other player is Jamie Edge, another nipper 😉

  47. rico says:

Makes me laugh, some now who obviously like Chelsea are now saying their penalty from FIFA is a disgrace, and funny enough, they are also now saying that Eduardo’s two match ban is very wrong!!

Well blow me old socks off – of course it is, since when has a yellow card offence resulted in a two match ban????

  48. rico says:

Oh, and bearing in mind the first sign of madness is talking to yourself…..

  49. JonJon says:

    Honies im home… 😉

well..no not really..im still at work but im on my own and ive got 10 mins so i thought id say yo roadsters…

good news about chelski…serves them right…

  50. rico says:

Hi JonJon – great news 😛

I have to go out now guys, you all stay safe, night night 🙂

    Night night

  52. PDT says:

    Peaches, hi!

I was asking about Ade because I hope he gets injured on international duty. I do not relish facing a striker with three goals under his belt and who has a score to settle. I am glad the match is away…if it was at home, Ade would try even harder.

This way, we have half a season before he comes to the Emirates and I hope that he will have gone back to his lazy ways.

  53. rico says:

    Morning Guys and Gals

I am beginning to think that the Eduardo tale will favour us in the end – even The Sun newspaper who like to rip us apart are reporting in our favour this morning – they say UEFA have singled us out, picked on the wrong player to ban and they even suggest that this so called law that allows post match banning has never been used before in four years. They also suggest that players/incidents must have been reported before but UEFA has always turned a blind eye…

The suggestion is that UEFA know they have got this very wrong and have realised they have set a ‘stated case’ with Eduardo – one that will bite them on the bottom for many seasons ahead!!

Also, Eduardo, the man they discribe as having had his leg broken by an outrageous tackle – the villan getting only a three match man!!

Many believe that we will win our appeal against the ban, not only because of video evidence, but because UEFA have made the biggest muck up ever, and have opened the biggest can of worms in football..

Even the ref on the night maintains he made the right decision, and sticks by that decision today…

    An interesting time ahead

  54. rico says:

Amazon have finally agreed that they should not be selling that Manure rubbish and have removed it from sale – took their time, but it’s gone..

  55. London says:

    Morning Rico

I like your 7:27, really well put. The other thing that struck me as being poignant that you wrote yesterday was ‘since when has a yellow card offence warranted a two match ban.’ So true.

  56. chaf says:

    Morning all

Yes Rico, a can of worms it will be. Every unnoticed shirt pull in the area is deceiving a ref, every player putting his hand up for a throw he knows went off his body, everything. Maybe they have a new deal set up with the Jobcentre.

I am recovering in bed from a hernia operation yesterday, so I will boring everyone to tears..

  57. chaf says:

    Started already…..

  58. rico says:

    Morning London – thank you,

I honestly believe we will win our appeal, even if the ban is reduced to the rightful penalty. Also, my belief is that all those (Stan Collymore aside) who used to slate us, will now see that we have been very hard done by. It is clear to see that we have been treated unfairly especially by Sky Sports who have continually replayed ‘that penalty dive’

In relation to the Chelsea affair – as far as I am aware all our ‘young’ signings have been carried out within the rules and compensation discussed and sorted out at the time. I don’t think we will be investigated in any way by FIFA – unlike Man U it appears.

Yes, I am sure clubs were very angry that we captured Cesc, Merida and many other up and coming players, but we didn’t ever hunt them down using the media as say Man City have just done with Lescott.

Morning chaf – that’s where I see the problem, if UEFA stand by their ruling, every single club will be referring a dodgy penalty, free kick, and shirt pulling offences that result in a goal against, to them and they will be unable to keep up.

On top of all of that – lets say we were to lose the CL, a penalty that looks suspicious and the floodgates open. UEFA intervene and say ‘yes, no penalty’ – the offending player took a dive and he gets a one match ban.

What then?? We have still lost the final, or will we get a replay ??

  59. rico says:

Sorry chaf – hope you recover real quickly and that you are being pampered 😉

  60. rico says:

This is very interesting too – we are a club that very soon people will love to love again, and a few around us will become ‘the tainted’ 🙂

Manchester United chief executive David Gill is to make a direct appeal to the clubs’ supporters to stop subjecting Arsene Wenger to vile abuse whenver he visits Old Trafford.

Although United are understood to have received a complaint from an Arsenal supporters’ group over the chanting aimed at their manager, reports claim that David Gill was so embarrassed and appalled by the abuse directed at the Frenchman on Saturday that he had already decided to act.

‘Gill is to attend a fans’ forum next month – the club hold three per season – and will make the Wenger abuse a priority for discussion,’ reports The Daily Mail.

However, The Guardian says that United ‘are uncertain about how to tackle the problem when there are so many people taking part’ and Gill will chair the meeting the meeting in order to “appeal for ideas as to how to curb it”.

United spokesman Philip Townsend told the newspaper: “We’ve gone on the record several times about this disgusting chant. We don’t condone it and have appealed to fans in the past – through supporters’ groups, the matchday programme and MUTV, but to no avail. There are many chants that opposing fans find objectionable, and this is certainly one to which all decent supporters should object.”

  61. rico says:

Mr Gill is to appeal for ides on how to curb the abuse directed at Arsene Wenger –

    Dear Mr Gill

You have stewards, speak to them! You have cctv, look at the evidence! You also no doubt have Sky + – record the game, then watch it with the volume up!! As a last resort, watch YOUR channel, yes, Sky Sports I am sure if you ask nicely they will re-run it for you time and time again!!

Identify the offenders and then ban them !! SIMPLES!!

    Yours sincerely

    rico 😉

  62. rico says:

    I have to go out

Before I go, is this simulation allegation not about having ‘intent to deceive’?

Well, has anyone yet asked Eduardo what he did or didn’t intend at the time, or whether he just wanted to get out of the way… just in case ??

grrrrrr, i promise to come back later, less grouchy 😉

  63. London says:

    YOUR channel…so true again.

  64. London says:

    Morning Chaf

I hope everything is going as well as can be expected. Do you need anything?

  65. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

Peaches I get what you are saying but I think I shocked myself with kinda agreeing with Cascarino – It wasn’t the normal rubbish he comes out with. As an Arsenal fan of course AW should protect Eddie but others who just like football would want a manager to make a stand at some stage if you get me.

Rico – We are safe as houses with Cesc and Merida – they had no contract with Barca so we didn’t force them to break any contract.

  66. chaf says:

Hello again, No thanks London, I have everything I need – a laptop! And painkillers and a barking Dog. Could do with some decent football this weekend but its all ‘championship standard for me’!….

  67. Irishgunner says:

Good to see Bischoff got himself to a “big club.”

    Amaury Bischoff
Portuguese Under-21 international Amaury put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Academica in Portugal’s Liga Sagres. The creative midfielder, who featured regularly for the Reserves last season, is yet to appear for his new club, who sit third-bottom of their division after the first three games.

    😆

  68. chaf says:

Good morning Irish, I have read many of your comments but haven’t been formally introduced!

  69. Irishgunner says:

Hi Chaf, good morning to you too.

You still laughing at Chelsea too?? 😆 I reckon the ban will be reduced or suspended though.

  70. chaf says:

Yeah I agree with most people that the English clubs are getting it in the neck, what happens if Man City ever get into Europe, They will have o play with one leg tied behind their back.

All the bans nowadays are like house offers, they barter it down a bit. Not many clubs will get these bans cos no one wants to go there.

Eufa will only be happy when they’ve got the Prem back to the championship.

  71. Irishgunner says:

FIFA have imposed bans on Sion who no ones seems to know who they are but Roma got a ban too for tapping up Mexes so i don’t think they can cry foul on British clubs here.

I think if the clubs complain FIFA might do something about it.

Chelsea have previous with Mikel and Cole as well.

  72. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

    Get well soon chaf..

Man U have also tapped up a player in a similar way, should be interesting if Englands golden boys get a ban.. 🙂

  73. Irishgunner says:

That’d be just awful wouldn’t it Avenell 😉

  74. avenell says:

As innocent as Rooney was talking about diving yesterday.. 😎

  75. Irishgunner says:

Alex Ferguson has said UEFA was right to ban Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva for two matches after he deceived the referee

to win a penalty in a Champions League match.

The Manchester United coach said Friday that UEFA had to send a strong disciplinary message because it was such a high profile competition.

Ferguson also said coaches and clubs have a duty to educate players to eliminate diving from football.

Speaking at UEFA after a two-day gathering of coaches from Europe’s top clubs, Ferguson said he would not be proud to win a game if one of his players had dived to win a key decision.

STOP LAUGHING DOWN THE BACK 😆

  76. peachesgooner says:

Remarkable Irish – truly remarkable, and they accuse Arsene of being myopic 🙂

  77. Irishgunner says:

Its so funny isn’t it Peaches ha ha what a muppet old red nose is 😆

Can we do Barcelona for “tapping up” through the media of Fabregas – surely its unsettling a player under contract?

  78. peachesgooner says:

How can we be sure that UEFA will only charge who THEY want to charge and won’t be drawn into a ‘he did this’ and ‘they did that’ situation? There doesn’t seem to be anyone to challenge their power – very worrying I’d say 😦

What if we made a complaint about Barcelona and Fabregas and they did nothing? Is it worth a try just to challenge them?

Rooney says hes never intentionally dived – yeh right

  79. rico says:

    Afternoon Roadies

Good old Red Nose, and Ronaldo was such a good example of how to con the ref….

I agree, Barca are constantly ‘tapping up Cesc’ and publicly, and Citeh with Lescott – such hypocrites, all of them

  80. avenell says:

I think it all depends on how chicken s**t the donor club are..
We should never have done a deal for Cole.. Everton just gave in for the money, but Lens took Chelsea to UEFA/FIFA..

  81. rico says:

    Oh Good Afternoon ave …

Do Everton eat lots of kebabs ??

  82. avenell says:

That’s when you give your kebab away.. 😉

  83. rico says:

    Become a ‘doner club’ 😉

  84. Irishgunner says:

Well with that team, and all of them playing, we should beat anyone.

  86. Irishgunner says:

If I had editing privileges I would change it to “Champions League Squad” ya smart arse 😉

  87. Big Raddy says:

    Yeah …. smart arse !

  88. Big Raddy says:

  89. Irishgunner says:

    Evening Big Raddy

    here you go:

He’s a defender that was in the Youth winning squad last season.

  90. Big Raddy says:

    Evening Irish.

    Goodnight as well 🙂

  91. London says:

Even with enough alcohol I still can’t forgive Doby. I have been trying all week but I still feel the same: I want to kill him; he’s not a defender, he’s not an attacker, he’s not a play maker, he can’t tackle, and he doesn’t release the ball quick enough; the man is basically jack of all trades and a master of none. How the hell do you head the ball into your own goal like that? You just know that Wenger is going to play him over and over again as if to try and prove a point, and while doing so, we will watch our championship hopes flow slowly and slowly down the drain. Please let me be wrong; someone slap me around the face.

  92. peachesgooner says:

Oh dear London, thats not like you……..I have to agree though and I reckon Arsene will be playing him a lot…… 😦

    Hi Raddy 😛

I can’t believe we’re back to boring Saturdays with no football so soon 😦 😦 😦

    Hi ave 😀

  93. avenell says:

    Good evening Peaches.. Hows tricks?

  94. London says:

If there is anyone else out there still suffering from the Doby blues, I recommend a spoon full of this. It won’t cure it but it does seem to dull the pain.

  95. kelsey says:

    Morning everyone.

It would be nice if we were all in the same time zone, but never mind.

Firstly, you must see Ramsey’s goal last night, the execution was magnificent.

London, Diaby.I feel you are being harsh on him.I see it, as not for the first time a lack of communication by Almunia and a covering player not being on the same wavelength. Same thing happened with Almunia against Pompey. He hasn’t mastered the art of knowing when to come for a cross or not.(I am not making a comparison, but Almunia has his vunerabilities.Celtic’s last minute goal, he got his angles wrong as well..

If you don’t agree, I just put the O.G. down to bad luck, nothing else.

  96. London says:

    Morning Kelsey

That was an alcohol induced rant….rational thought had little to do with it….and as for Almunia….I shall wait for my next bottle of wine to deal with him.

  97. Big Raddy says:

As I understand it, Diaby and Almunia have said the Blondie called for the cross prior to the foolish header.

If this is true, then no blame can be attached to Almunia. Nope ,´it was all down to Diaby.

That said, Almunia has never inspired confidence. We should and could have signed Givens.

  98. Big Raddy says:

    Still on the Spanish, London?

It can cause deep troughs of Anti-Diabyism.

It says so on the label ……

  99. rico says:

    Morning everyone

The reports are that a takeover is soon to be very much on the cards – The big Russian guy is looking at buying Lady Nina’s shares 😦

  100. JonJon says:

    morning guys…

    nice rant london.. 😉

hi raddy..the fact that almunia called for it makes it 100% his fault…i made a comment the other day that after watching the replays diaby looked to be two minds…he didnt know whether to head it or leave it and the result was an own goal from something that wasnt even a proper header…it was a nothing header like it took him by suprise…

the cross was floated in…with no pace and was 7 yards away from almunia, blondie had time to catch a plane back to spain to see his family and then come back and get his hair dyed and walk his dog and make a cuppa then go catch that cross…

diaby found hismelf as the last line of defence because all our other players who have abit more upstairs listened to vermalaens instructions to push out…

almunia called..but with rooney making a late run diaby stayed put to give extra cover…diaby thought almunia was coming because he called but he never came and had to make a split decision-the kind you cant trust diaby with….

the point of it all is…if almunia called-why was he still rooted to his goal line when diaby headed it??? where was he…whats the point in calling if your not going to come? you just put doubts in your defnders minds and that what happened to diaby…even if diaby did leave it almunia wasnt coming anyway so rooney would have got there…

    almunias fault..in every aspect…

  101. JonJon says:

i could name 50 keepers who would have come racing out, smashed diaby out of the way and caught that ball…

almunia needs to grow some balls and spend more time on working on his positioning and crossing skills than doing his bloody hair…

almunias in poor form…theres no point in us getting our defending sorted in the outfeild when your keeper is conceeding goals left right and centre by not doing the basics

  102. London says:

And all that was without wine 😉

  103. London says:

I am slightly less critical of Almunia for the own goal, in my view Doby should have adhered to the maxim “If in doubt, clear it out”. However what does make my blood boil is the naive way that Almunia got suckered into giving away the penalty: school boy error Al, school boy error.
I championed the beach bum all last season, in fact, prior to the spud home game I was using terms like “World Class” Bentley’s goal knocked the stuffing out of him along with his confidence and he reverted back to being nervously average. He gradually gained his confidence back as the season progressed and I felt that the many calls for his head during the close season, most notably by Rasputin, were exaggerated. Alarm bells started ringing when he slovenly kicked the ball against an on coming attacker in on of the close season friendlies; I can’t remember which one, the outcome was a goal. I put this down to being rusty and that he would improve as we moved closer to the start of the season. The truth is he hasn’t; he still looks cumbersome, lacking in agility, like someone who gets a bit too old and loose the flexibility they onece had in their muscles, a bit like Flintoff at the end of the Ashes. Forgive me Freddie for comparing you to our would be Englishman.
The manc game strengthened my concerns that had started creeping in, to the point know where I cannot see any reason why he is likely to improve or be good enough to regain the respect of his doubters. He is a spent force, the only near term solution I can envisage is to get Fabianski back and drop Almunia when he blunders as he surely will do again. In other words Wenger should follow the same course as he did with Lehman. This maybe the only hope we have of winning the PL; that may should a bit dramatic as there are obviously so many other elements to it; but, no team can build towards winning the title if the first building block, which is the goal keeper, is not in place.

  104. JonJon says:

Almunias always been dodgy hasnt he london?

positioning wise hes rubbish…always getting caught out with 30-40 yard shots and never comes for crosses…and its been that way since hes been with us…hes a big game bottler

in all fairness jehmann was just as bad…i dont regard lehmann an as invincible..the same way i didnt regard lauren, toure or gilberto invincible….they were only paasengers in a team full of supermen…

the diffence is now though is that we have few supermen in the squad and we have to play as a unit…everybody has to do there bit from striker to keeper and our keeper has never been good enough…

fergie went through 12 keepers before he replaced the great dane with VDS…keepers are an important part of the team…a good keeper will still make the odd mistake and lose you about 5points a season…but at the same time they will win you about 10-15…

almunia has lost us more points than he won us with silly mistakes….if wenger wants us to play as a team we need a better no.1…

as the invincible era died and we started to play more as a unit…lehmann got found out and wenger had no choice…i wonder how long it will be before almunia is dealt the same fate…

but then again who do we replace him with?? fabianksi is just as bad with decisions although may improve that with game time…and wenger has never splashed out on a keeper…so we are most likely stuck with what weve got for a few more years to come…

  105. PDT says:

    Good morning, all!

I am with JJ 11:01. This one was not Diaby’s fault.

  106. PDT says:

  107. rico says:

Afternoon all – i am forgetting it, we can’t change what happened, just hope they both know what part they played and try to not let it happen again..

What about the Freddy coming back stories…. and the club refuse to comment, wow could the CK’s be back in London 😛

  108. Rasputin says:

    Hi Roadsters,

I haven’t been on for a while and have been string up rants until I’m about to explode….

I said before the manure CL smi game last season that we shouldn’t play Diaby … they did their research and knew he would give away possession. They must have been delightted when they saw he was picked again last week. He only produces moments of brilliance when they are instinctive. The minute he has to stop and think it all goes wrong. He’s a clumsy clutz who’s not very bright. That’s why he injured Nasri. He’s broken 3 players legs inas many years. The two worst players in the side combined to gift manu the winner last week. Whether Almunia called or not, why the hell did Diaby just bury it in his own net. I’ve watched the replays and there is no attempt to get it over the bar .. he just got confused because he’s not very bright! Almunia is not good enough. He doesn’t command his area and his positional sense is diabolical.

On the other hand Ramsey is improving at an incredible rate. I believe that if either Ramsey or Merida (equally good) had played against manu we would have won and if we’d have signed Shay given, we probably wouldn’t have conceded any goals at all this season……

    See – you haven’t missed me 😦

  109. Rasputin says:

Sorry about all the typos … 😉

  110. rico says:

Rasputin – good to see you back in the blog world, I have missed you – we never did celerate the Ashes win 😛

Hows tricks ? And do you feel better now you have let all your frustration out 😉 Merida – he has to soon play, he’s pretty darn good 😛

  111. London says:

Good rant Rasp and what’s more….drum roll….I agree.

  112. JonJon says:

hiya rasp… keeping well..nice to hear from ya..

yeah…the big thing about last season was wenger stuck to his mediocre players that never seem to improve and always seem to make mistakes and the good prospects who were impressing in the CC and the odd PL game when they got a chance were left keeping the bench warm…

i was kinda hoping that this year would be different but then for the manure game eboue was deployed as striker and diaby was in CM..

the pro africa, sorry pro eboue brigade, will say eboue was picked for his versitility but the fact hes not a striker and he has scored only a handful of goals in 4 years suggests to me it sort of defeats the object of a striker…

we were very unlucky against manure but i feel manure were there for the taking and we didnt field our strongest lineup…

if anything i would of had those two the other way round…eboue in the midfield just to watch evra and help bac and diaby as support striker were hes best and not as a CM were his clumsyness and stupidness lets him and us down…

can i also add that denilson was crap in that game..worse than the pair of them…

denilson and almunia were utds men of the match…

  113. London says:

This, to me, is the piece of writing of the day lol

“the cross was floated in…with no pace and was 7 yards away from almunia, blondie had time to catch a plane back to spain to see his family and then come back and get his hair dyed and walk his dog and make a cuppa then go catch that cross…”

  114. chaf says:

Perhaps he should have caught the ball instead of making the cup of tea….

  115. London says:

L’equipe are reporting that Djourou is out for six months.

    http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2009/20090905_133115_djourou-out-six-mois.html

  116. London says:

Exactly, you have hit the nail on the head Chaf: Spaniards can’t make tea.

  117. JonJon says:

    london ive just read that…

    thank goodness phil stayed…

  118. chaf says:

Do the Swiss make a good cup of tea then?

  119. JonJon says:

    yeah..with one lump

  120. chaf says:

I thought we had two lumps

  121. Irishgunner says:

    Way-Hey International Football 😐

I have bought myself copious amounts of alcohol to get me through the snoozefest that will be Ireland vs Cyprus. Alas revenge is on the cards – C’Mon Ireland

  122. rico says:

    Hi Irish – Magners ??? 😉

  123. rico says:

So no-one has anything to say about Freddie 😦

  124. Irishgunner says:

    Ha ha spot on Rico

    Freddie Ljunberg?

  125. rico says:

Yes Irish – many reports about him coming home on loan 🙂

  126. Irishgunner says:

I doubt it Rico – I saw it yesterday, it started in some Swedish newspaper.

Isn’t he crocked with injuries now? Unless he wants to play for free 🙂

  127. rico says:

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/368688384?-19387

    Apparently AFC won’t comment 😉

  128. rico says:

He was crocked Irish, but now he is pretty fit I think, he would be ‘like a new signing’ 😉 😉

  129. rico says:

    No AA for Russia 🙂

  130. Irishgunner says:

I starting to think there is something perverse in Arsene signing crocks ha ha

He does like scoring against the Mancs 😉

  131. Irishgunner says:

Did you see the thick comments made by John Terry? Really, Diaby did damage to this guy when he kicked him in the head.

  132. rico says:

A bit weird if he does come back, but I guess it would keep the medical room staff busy, they must be starting to worry as Thomas is fit again, Nasri won’t be too long, neither will Theo – Only JD seems to be keeping them in a job so maybe thats why Freddie is on the radar 😉

  133. rico says:

I didn’t see them Iris, I tend to stay away from reading/listening to ‘John Thomas’ Terry 😉

  134. Irishgunner says:

“That’s something the England lads don’t do. Sometimes we’re too honest. Even in the Premier League, we see the English lads get a bit of contact and try to stay on their feet and score the chance. “

  135. rico says:

woops, i missed your ‘h’ off Irish – sorry 😦

  136. rico says:

Ah, what a twurp, he obviously doesn’t get to see Gerrard, Rooney, Owen, Lumps…. the list goes on !

  137. Irishgunner says:

I’m not watching the game but apparently Brown and Fletcher are just running around Hampden Park kicking lumps out of the Macedonians… Anyone confirm?

  138. rico says:

Not watching it either Irish, if that is the case, i hope Macedonia complain, let’s see what happens then, eh.. Scotland go out today don’t they if they don’t win – ha ha ha ha ha

    Good Old Tosh 🙂

TOSHACK: EDUARDO BAN SETS DANGEROUS PRECEDENT

Wales boss John Toshack has blasted UEFA over the two game suspension given to Eduardo following the diving furore that embroiled the Champions League qualifier against Celtic last month.

The Croatian international has come under fire from many for blatantly diving in the box to win a penalty for the Gunners. He was tried by video evidence and given a two match European ban, a move that disgusted Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

Toshack, a manager with over 30 years experience around Europe, feels “a very dangerous precedent has been created”.

Toshack said: “I am a big fan of Arsene Wenger’s and he is always worth listening to.

“I agree 100 per cent with him over the Eduardo incident. It came at the end of a terrific move, and don’t forget he had been the victim of a bad injury and a bad tackle 18 months ago and he is only just back from his injury.

“He can see the Celtic goalkeeper flying out at him and I felt the lad was protecting himself. There is a difference between diving and getting out of the way of what could have been a nasty collision.

“You still can’t see clearly there was no contact from the replays. Trouble seems to follow that referee around.

“I know him from Spain, (Manuel Enrique) Mejuto Gonzalez, and he is very highly rated within UEFA. It will be interesting to see whether UEFA take any action against him, because he should have sent off the keeper and didn’t, if he felt it was a penalty.

“I also feel there is some Scottish influence on this one, and UEFA have made a knee-jerk reaction and it is a very dangerous precedent.”

Toshack added: “If the referee thought it was a penalty, gave it, and didn’t send off the keeper. I thought that was the rule.

“And for all their complaining, Celtic had one of their own players disciplined for diving a few days later.

“The same thing happened when Arsenal lost at Manchester United soon after, Wayne Rooney got a penalty and the Arsenal keeper wasn’t sent-off.

“If referees feel it is deliberate, goalkeepers should get a red card. This sort of knee-jerk reaction from UEFA is very, very dangerous for everyone.”

  139. Irishgunner says:

Scotland won 2-0, think they have to beat Holland though to have a shot of 2nd.

  140. rico says:

Lets hope they get thrashed and Robin gets a hatrick 😛

Off for a bit now, hope your boys win Irish and you enjoy the Magners 😛 😛

  141. Irishgunner says:

    Cheers Rico – laters 😀

  142. Irishgunner says:

ROONEY DIVED – YA DIRTY CHEATING %^^&*($ in an England shirt and all naughty naughty

  143. Irishgunner says:

*Hello can I have Michel Platini please?

Michel, Wayne Rooney has just deceived the referee to win a penalty. I await the public crusade.*

    End of phone call.

And what will Sir Alex of Ferguson think….

    This is so gloriously funny.

    ————————————————–

Andy Townsend is a knob “Its not really a dive, he was trying to lash out at the defender” 😆

  144. rico says:

And Tosser Townsend says he didn’t, he says it wasn’t a penalty, but not a dive – idiot!!

Irish – do you think Becks looks as if he has been eating the same diet as Victoria ? To me he looks painfully thin in the face 😦 😦

  145. rico says:

This will be interesting – on ITV Wrighty is the pundit at half time – I bet any money he bottles it for television instead of coming out with the truth….

And here is how it will go on and on all season – I look forward to it ………

  146. Irishgunner says:

Townsend said he dived then changed his mind 😕

    Becks does look very thin

  147. Irishgunner says:

30 secs on it, Eddie gets crucified for over a week and they spend 30 seconds on it………. ^&*&$$%&&&^££

  148. rico says:

I just watched it Irish – bloody shocking, never a penalty and how did Shrek justify his arms in the air appealing…. CHEAT!!

Well done Wrighty, you made your point…

And Green should be off, he truly makes Almunia look world class!! I am so glad we never bought him!

  149. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha ha its sooooooooooooo funny you couldn’t make it up.

ITV need Eamon Dunphy on the panel, that’d sort ’em 🙂

  150. Irishgunner says:

Rico – Did you see though how the consensus was “How could the ref get that wrong?”

I love how they treated the Eddie incident and the one with Shrek the same 🙄

  151. rico says:

This won’t go away Irish, the paps will see to that, they have supported Eduardo the latter part of the week, and many out there will be rubbing their hands together to get something on Shrek…
    I cant wait 😉

Acually, I can really, I just hope he gets torn apart – the hypocrite 😉

  152. Irishgunner says:

TWO MATCH BAN TWO MATCH BAN TWO MATCH BAN!!!!!!!

He appealed for the penalty too and injured the defender so that’s cheating AND dangerous play – oh Micheal Platini I think it is worthy of a FOUR MATCH BAN myself 😀

  153. Irishgunner says:

“I can speak about the England lads and I think it is something we don’t do,” said Terry. “I think we’re too honest, sometimes even in the Premier League you see the English lads get a bit of contact and stay on their feet and try and score from the chance they have been given.

“I think sometimes that honesty goes against us. I think sometimes as a country we’re too honest. I think the Eduardo one was a dive and we can all see that and it is disappointing to see because Arsenal are a quality side and I don’t think they want to be portrayed like that.”

    😆

  154. rico says:

I did Irish – at least the eduardo ref maintains he was right, and I think video evidence may just prove he was –

Its a typical ITV, BBC, SKY…. Cop out, ‘ we cant slate the nation that gives us money, we must not be seen to go against the England team’…

I hate people like that in any walk of life – having being subjected to liars, cheats and more liars for the last five years of my life (and the better half) I bloody hate it – one rule for one, and another rule for another, it makes me sick !!!!

  155. rico says:

    Irish 😛 😛 You are on a roll….

  156. Irishgunner says:

    That’s life Rico, that’s life.

  157. rico says:

Oh, and another point, the ref did get it wrong, but that is because he was conned by an English Pit Bull !!

Simulation I think it is called 😉

  158. Irishgunner says:

Rico – in all fairness John Terry must be so proud to be captain of such a honest bunch.

Every country has players that dive – Robbie Keane is our worse – but its this whiter than white, we are angels that irks me about England.

  159. Irishgunner says:

The arrogance of the players doesn’t help either….

  160. rico says:

But your team, your playesr haven’t come out and spouted about how ‘honest’ they are, and how they don’t cheat…

Terry the Tosser has and tonight it has backfired big time.

    Nice goal by Defoe..

  161. kelsey says:

Wow ladies you sure are up for it tonight.

Don’t worry about Scotland, even if they were to win against Holland or is it the Netherlands, their goal difference is so bad, they wouldn’t get a runners up spot.

Did Rooney really dive or was it the divets in the pitch ;;)

i hope Send dare ross is upping his training with the sad news on JD out for 6 months.

  162. Irishgunner says:

Rico – The Irish players know better than to be talking crap. We have a team of hard workers with the odd dash of very good player (Given, McGeady etc). Its only when one gets above themselves they talk rubbish.

Evening Kelsey – Cyprus are in for some revenge Irish style later 🙂

It was divets on the pitch 😉

  163. rico says:

Hi kelsey – we are both on a roll!

Dreadful about JD, and sad fror him – we can only hope that Big Phil steps up, and just maybe he will……

Rooney didn’t even dive, he just fell over and pleaded for a penalty, what a twurp he is!

I have to go for dinner now, back shortly

  164. Irishgunner says:

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL

    sweetness

  165. avenell says:

Evening all.. I watched the last 10 mins of the first half and I felt the old blood pressure rising..

I wanted to destroy things including the TV.. God I am angry.. I hate England with a vengeance. ..

  166. Irishgunner says:

I couldn’t stop laughing Avenell ha ha its predictable that ITV would present it as “if the dived never happened”

Given just pulled off a top drawer save – Citeh got him for a few million, why Arsene why?

  167. avenell says:

I don’t understand how anyone can support England..
They spend all the press conferences slagging off diving and our players then we are supposed to support them..
To top it off they are using our training facilites, the one we paid for selling a bloody foreigner..

If Theo wants to play for england sell him!!

  168. Irishgunner says:

You are really angry Avenell 😯

Apparently Nikki B scored a stunner for Denmark.

  169. avenell says:

I have hated England since that tosser “Captain Marvel” Robson played for looking like Horatio Nelson..

I could just about handle the Keegan hype..

    Good old Nikki.. 🙂

  170. Irishgunner says:

    Flip it 😦

    1-1

I need to get some drink, talk tomorrow.

  171. rico says:

Complex for me ave, you turn up just a the time i sign off 😦 I can take a hint 😉 😉

Night all, come on the Irish – just for Irish

    Stay safe 🙂

  172. rico says:

Oh, and ave, I don’t follow England either, but I do like Capello – if AW ever goes, he would be worth thinking about 😉

  173. avenell says:

He seems to be very practical but lacks style.. unless he is just working with what he has..

  174. avenell says:

    Oh and goodnight Rico.. x

I will turn up a bit earlier tomorrow.. 😉

  175. rico says:

    Morning all

What a surprise, the paps haven’t made a big deal about Rooney taking a tumble and pleading for the penalty – no, all they can say is that he didnt dive…

Well done Ireland, your big toes are on the plane to the WC 🙂 Just hope the head is not too sore Irish 😉

  176. PDT says:

Good maorning, everyone, though I suspect most folks are taking it easy this Sunday morn.

  177. PDT says:

    *morning

Did anyone really believe that Rooney would be hung, drawn and quartered?

  178. PDT says:

I don’t think Capello is one of the greats. He is just a lot more competent than the two jokers who went before him.

Scolari, on the other hand, would be a great pick for England. As would Bora Milutinovic.

  179. PDT says:

    Wouldn’t mind Bilic either..

  180. rico says:

    Morning PDT,

Don’t get to take it too easy on a sunday morning, have chickens to feed 😉

  181. PDT says:

One more month to seeing Nasri on the bench. Fab, Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri, Eduardo…we will be unstoppable!

  182. rico says:

    Or even Hiddink

  183. PDT says:

Though JD’s leg was a setback. Arsene must have known that JD would be out, yet he didn’t strengthen at the back. What does he see that we don’t? Senderos?

  184. PDT says:

This will be one awesome team :

    Al
    Sagna-TV-Gallas-Clichy
    Rosicky-Fab-Nasri
    Theo-Eduardo-Arshavin

  185. PDT says:

I can just about see them trotting out at the Bernabeu in the middle of May!

  186. rico says:

We could have done with JD having his op before the start of the season, and injuries (not serious) to both Senderos and Silvestre – enough to keep them both out for a month, then his hand would have been forced.

I think Song will be the cover which is a shame as he has finally found his feet in midfield

  187. PDT says:

Morning, Rico!! How many chickens do you have there? Which part of England are you in?

  188. rico says:

    What no Song PDT 😦

  189. PDT says:

You are probably right about Song. That’s why He has been going on and on about Song being a central defender, not a midfielder. I am convinced that he will play Nasri as the DM.

  190. rico says:

We have four chickens and live in the South East, not too far from Reading, Berkshire – I guess you are overseas or a real early bird 😉 😉

  191. PDT says:

Why do we pay Silvestre a salary? Does anyone buy a Silvestre shirt?

  192. PDT says:

I am in Singapore, Rico. We are seven hours ahead of you.

  193. PDT says:

We were visting some friends in East Sussex earlier in the summer and their neighbour’s chickens had been decimated by a fox…hope you don’t have that challenge.

  194. rico says:

You are right, that team is a strong one – mine would only differ by one –

    Almunia

    Bac TV Gallas Clichy

    Nasri Song Cesc Thomas

    Arshavin Eduardo

Subs – Theo, Nik, Robin, Merida, JD, Jack, Fab

I did a double take when I saw Fab amongst the subs 🙂

Big diffeence between ‘regas and ‘ianski…

We haven’t had a problem so far with Foxes and pray we dont, we have houses or gardens to the side and rear, all have 6′ fences, and being on a busy road we just hope it’s too much effort for them – that must have been awful to have had that happen 😦

Is Singapore your home country, or does work take you there? Tell me to mind my own if you like 😉

I like Sussex, used to there every year to watch the tennis in Eastbourne, usually a bit breezy, but a lovely part of the country

Got to go…have some errands to run before the weekend is over.

Have fun, Rico and may your chickens live long and prosper! And may the Force be with them!

  199. rico says:

    😛 PDT – Cesc is a little small for a keeper 😉

  200. rico says:

Thanks, have a good day what’s left of it for you 😦

  201. rico says:

I’m off for a bit too, just had my sunday treat of boiled eggs and soldiers 😉 and now off for a walk before the rain sets in, oh and to get back in time to watch a bit of cricket…

  202. rico says:

Blimey Riley – you lazy lot 😉

  203. Irishgunner says:

    Good afternoon/morning all

Sore head 😕 but we won – YIPEEEEEEEE beat the mighty Cyprus 😀

  204. Irishgunner says:

    Just for you Rico 😉

  205. Irishgunner says:

Wayne Rooney Missed a sitter, won a penalty and ran his heart out all day. A typically energetic display. It wasn’t a penalty, but he didn’t dive. Rating: 8

I saw the Niki goal last night, great wasn’t it – now we know he can do it 😉

Don’t get me started on Rooney 😦

  207. rico says:

  208. Irishgunner says:

    Yep – lets read 🙂

Head is better now 🙂 Ireland were awful last night but 3 points is all important now bring on the Italians.

  209. Irishgunner says:
