Man Utd for the title. Ha, don’t make me laugh, they didn’t beat us we beat ourselves

A fixture at Old Trafford so early in the season was a good opportunity to show that we had learned the lessons of last season. It was regarded as our first real test of the season and judging by the fixtures we’ve had so far I would have to agree.

The focus of our new style of play is our work rate and what we do without the ball. The reward for this was 4 wins out of 4 and 15 goals. What more could you ask for and never in so long have I felt so confident going into a game with the champions of England. I felt we could match them and beat them and without Ronaldo, who was a regular thorn in our side, their attacking threat was not going to bother our new found defensive strength. Fergie also knew this and it was no surprise when he changed his formation to match ours. Fergie never changes his tactics for teams, especially at Old Trafford. He knew as much as the rest of us that we were the favourites.

The game started of nervy, with both teams showing off their attacking skills and taking it in turns to launch attacks at each other. If their was ever a test for the Gallas and Vermalaen partnership this was it and with Song anchoring the midfield and offering the pairing protection, our new found defensive strength this season was as strong as ever. Man Utd looked out of ideas, they couldn’t break us down and if anyone looked like scoring it was going to be us, and score we did.

It all started after Arshavin was hacked down in the penalty area by Fletcher, who proceeded to commit a double foul by handball. It looked a definite penalty, in real time and on the replays but decisions like that are hard to get at Old Trafford, so it was no surprise that the appeal was turned down and Fletcher had got away with it. Or had he?? Minutes later with frustration running through his veins, Arshavin picked the ball up in space and blasted a screamer from 25 yards that almost ripped through the back of the net, taking Fosters finger tips with it.

For me that was the game. We had it won. Man Utd were offering nothing when they were going forward, our back 4 were solid and this was emphasised by the fact that the Mancs didn’t get a shot off in anger in the first half.

We started the second half the much better side. creating an early chance when Arshavin scurried into the box and cut a cross back across goal only for Robin to force Foster into a good point blank save. With Man Utd still not offering anything going forward, that was the chance to put the game to bed, but chances like that always come back to haunt you, especially in the big games.

Until the hour mark, Man Utd still hadn’t forced a save from Almunia. So where did it all go wrong?

The answer? We have big game bottlers in our side and they reared their ugly heads once again in another big game. The main culprit was once again Almunia. Giggs slipped a hopeful through ball into Rooney’s path. Rooney was going nowhere, he was heading into no mans land on his weaker left foot with a defender up his backside. Almunia had a rush of blood. He came rushing out, sliding across the floor offering his whole body for Rooney to fall over. We’ve seen Rooney do this before so it was no surprise when he took and early tumble over the outstretched Almunia and won the penalty. Yes it was a dive. Yes there was contact. Yes it was a penalty. A cheap penalty, but a penalty. Rooney proceeded to blast the ball home and once again a mistake had cost us a lead.

Not happy with just that. Giggs once again looped a hopeful cross into our box from a free kick. It lacked pace and had plenty of height. It was a perfect opportunity for any commanding big game keeper to come and collect and ease the pressure, but Almunia failed to see the chance, once again leaving it to a defender to clear and from only  yards out and the helpless Diaby got himself in a muddle and headed the goal into the back of his net.

We had self destructed. We were the better side and Man Utd were 2-1 up without having a shot on goal still. it was very disappointing, we didn’t deserve to lose in such a way but at least we showed what we can do. We were unlucky and it was mistakes that cost us, but you cant make mistakes at Old Trafford and expect to come away with the three points.

Almunia..4..oh dear oh dear. The two mistakes against Barca in the 2006 final gave us insight into Almunia’s big game bottle. Last year he let a 45 yard free kick squeeze past his near post and yesterday he made two mistakes we all know he’s capable of making and lost us the game. He was at fault for Everton’s goal, he shouldn’t have been beaten for the Celtic goal and he’s made two major cock ups again. Our keeper is a good shot stopper but every other aspect of his game is suspect. What was he doing taking a free kick 40 yards away from his goal out on the touchline for??? Did anyone notice that? We have an eccentric goalie who’s a big game bottler and that’s why hes never played for Spain. At any level. Should he be dropped?? Hes making mistakes already, but then again, who do we replace him with?

Sagna..7..solid and strong. how many times do we say that?

Gallas..8..good display again. Solid and dominating. He’s back to his best.

Vermanator..8..hes formed a formidable partnership with Gallas and hes a great defender. Along with Gallas we need him to stay fit if we want to challenge for honours. Sagna

Song..7..good strong display. the defensive triangle in the middle of the park of Song, Gallas and TV is becoming a giant brick wall. He’s another who we need to stay fit all season. Good display.

Denilson..4..a bad game. Regularly lost the ball, never tracks back. Useless going forward. Song was a one man army yesterday in the middle and Denilson is another big game bottler. Good against the Pompey’s but a liability against the big teams..but we said this last season too!! enigma, with quick feet and deceptive pace,he still cant get the hang of this midfield position. Weak in defence and some sloppy passing. Hes better further up the pitch. He got himself in a terrible kerfuffle in our own box, forgetting which way he was supposed to be shooting. Then missed a perfect opportunity to put it right at the other end. Operation Vieira mark 2 should have been abandoned last year. Big game bottler.

Eboue..6..always tries hard and gets himself in some good positions but never knows what to do when he gets there. His games based on heart and desire and as we saw with Kolo it only gets you so far. A decent display but the dive let him and us down.

Robin..6..found it hard to get into the game. The main battle was in the midfield, but without Cesc we lacked creativity and Robin was constantly coming back into the midfield to search for the ball. Opened up a few doors with good quick passes but he should have scored too.

Arshavin..6..he never ceases to amaze me. Hes one of those players who can do nothing all game and then hit 4 goals or a 25 yard screamer. Alot of sloppy play but hes capable of changing a game in the blink of an eye.

In retrospect. We were brilliant. The result has left me crushed but the performance from certain players leaves me with no doubt that we have enough to challenge this season. We were unlucky and we threw the game away, but we really do need Cesc, Rosicky and Nasri back quickly. We need the big game players back. Its early in the season so we have plenty of time to recover from this.

Lets get the Citeh game out of the way and then go on one of those 20 game unbeaten runs.

Have a good day guys,I know it will be hard but chins up.

    Morning Roadsters..
Great post JJ.. you know I am not with you on the Almunia part, but I agree with the rest.
Clichy should have had a mark deducted for not hitting row “Z” when he dithered on his clearance in the penalty area.
Oh I have just heard that Mike Dean has apologised to Mr Wenger for that stupid decision at the end of the game to send him to the stands.
Arsenal have had some positive publicity for the way Arsene conducted himself.. at last.

  2. PDT says:

Good morning, folks! How are we doing this morning?

Don’t know if you got to read my perspective on the game in the comments of yesterday’s post.

  3. avenell says:

Yes I did mate.. paste in in again if you want to.. It was good and positive but I guess we are all a bit down as we never want to lose and the way we lost was typical of the last 4 years to the big clubs.

When we have been good enough to win, we either have a biased ref or a piece of bad luck to take it away.

  4. PDT says:

This new 4-3-3 is putting too much pressure on some parts of the team. Arshavin was patently out of breath by the end of the hour and I would not be surprised if we started having injuries earlier in the season due to the new formation.

I am looking forward to see how Wenger rotates. He has enough talent in the team to rotate early and often.

  5. PDT says:

Thanks, Ave. I don’t think things are as bad as they seem and there could be a lot for us to cheer for this season. I think we will be in the contest for the EPL and the UCL in February.

The key is not getting injuries due to fatigue. This 4-3-3 is going to exacerbate fatigue.

  6. avenell says:

When Fabregas and Rosicky are back, we would kill games like that off and then we will be able to keep possesion and stroke the ball around. not working so hard.
But the likes of Diaby and Denilson are making our lives harder because of the lack of creation.

  7. JonJon says:

    hi guys…

we lost but we werent beaten…ive been very down since the final whistle so much to the point that i havent watched footbal first or motd..

when we got beat last year i was upset and angry at the performance..we got trounced…

but yesterday we did enough to win the game…even the journalists were saying this morning they have underestimated us and we will challenge chelsea for the still positive..

PDT…the new formation is working i think…its just that when the three midfielders are diaby song and denilson it leaves a certain lack of creativity so players like AA are having to do more work to get involved in the game…

when cesc and rosicky are back we will be flying…we have the defensive core right with the current system…we just need the right players for our creative game and denilson and diaby are not the right players..

  8. PDT says:

I would disagree, Avenell. I think both Diaby and Denilson add to the team. Diaby had an excellent game yesterday, except for that one moment of madness. Denilson did not have a good first half but came back strongly in the second.

  9. JonJon says:

ave we did it again 😉

  10. PDT says:

JJ, I agree the new formation is working – my point was about the amount of additional work that the four players on the wing have to do. In addition to the longitudinal movement, there is a significant amount of transverse running and tackling they have to do. I don’t know if our team has the steel to pull off that formation through the season.

Guardiola rotated from the second game last year, and will, no doubt, do so again this year. Plus they play in a slower and less physical league.

  11. PDT says:

What did you guys do again, JJ?

  12. JonJon says:

i think denilson and diaby are decent squad players but only for the lesser teams…

for the big games we need more…denilson offers nothing in defence song cant do alone and offers nothing going forward..he cant pick a pass or a through ball and he cant run with the ball..

diaby wasnt bad but denilson had an absolute both halves….his lack of ball retention was dire and to top it off he kept losing the ball outside our own box….mrs jonjon was sick of me shouting at the telly…she said after the game she thought denilsons name was ‘just clear it’ 😉

  13. JonJon says:

sometimes when we are blogging ave and me will write practically the same comment and post it at the same time…its becoming uncanny.. 😉

and i agree about the rotation too…it will be vital but we have alot of options to cope..its just a pity so many of them are on the physios table..

  14. PDT says:

JJ, there;s something fundamentally different in how we see Denilson.

On DIaby, his physicality helps him hold off defenders and this should come in useful when we play the Blackburns and the Boltons, etc. He has good skills and will be of use to us this season.

  15. avenell says:

PDT.. if we all agreed there wouldn’t be much to debate about.
I thought Diaby was okay, but I don’t see him as very physical in his play, he has shown glimpses, Like Mr “one run” Walcott. and he runs out of steam after 30 mins. In that time also you can tell if he is going to be poor all game.
While we have these passengers we will always be nearly there. too many incomplete players.

  16. JonJon says:

the thing with denilson PDT is that i dont see him as a DM or an AM..

hes and interceptor and a 5 yard passer..thats it..but to be a complete midfielder in a team challenging for trophies you need to be able to do more…

    my perfect team would be

    ———–another GK

that team has the right balance for me…

and i agree with you on diaby..i think against the lesser teams hes pompey…so is denilson but they arent the players we need for the big games…

  17. avenell says:

Denilson sort of just follows the play around.. never runs into space, never passes the ball into space.

He is just there, that is why his stats are good, the rest of the team have to create.
That’s okay when we have Fab, Rosicky and Nasri in the team but next to Diaby and Song he is nothing..

  18. avenell says:

I have to pop out for a bit.. nice chat guys..

Keep your eye on the dashboard JJ .. 🙂

  19. Hasasn says:

Well said mate. i can see us winning something this season

  20. JonJon says:

but looking to the future and on a positve note we took our B team midfield to old trafford and only lost the game because we had two lapses on concentration…

we will bounce back..the systems working…we look stronger than last year..20 points stronger…it will be close and we will be there at the end of it all…

i cant see us dropping points against any of the lesser teams this season with the system we play…home and away..which was our weakness last season…our defence is sorted..

our season depends on the lesser team results…the top teams will always take points off eachother so as long as we dont slip up against the hulls and the stokes we’ll be ok…

  21. avenell says:

Hi Hasasn.. welcome to Avenell Road you are free to blog now..

and I have got to go.. bye..

  22. JonJon says:

    seeya ave.. 😉

hello hasan..yeah mate for sure..we look strong we were just unlucky…two mistakes two goals…

it was a good performance we have alot of positives to take from it…

we just need to show we can bounce back…the citeh game is set up perfectly..

  23. JonJon says:

ive just noticed your points on the previous post and i agree..

may i highlight your point about the bookings???
i think weve learned how to fight..i dont care about the amount of bookings we get…but since paddy left weve lacked that bit of steel..this season looks like we have that back..

  24. avenell says:

I’m back.. Man u had more fouls yet we got more bookings.. also a Man U player gets told to calm down and that is great refereeing.. our players never gat that option..

and everyone foul throws nowadays..We get picked up on it..

  25. JonJon says:

yeah fletcher made about 20 fouls…thats enough to get sent off 4 times…and he never even got a yellow

  26. Freire says:

Two silly mistakes that cost us 3 big points.

I’d put Almunia, Denilson and Diaby out of the squad forever. Wenger can go with them too.

  27. raif says:

Diaby needs to be sold as his to much of a liability for us.

he hasnt progressed at all in the 4 almost 5 years his been with us..

we was calling for songs head last season, now his supassed him in every department,

  28. rico says:

Hi all – Great write up yet again JonJon, but a tad harsh on Almunia 😉

The trouble with Diaby, Denilson and Eboue is, none of us know week in week out which ‘side’ of them is going to play – the committed side, or the lazy good for nothing side – yesterday was the latter imho. I can accept everyone has an off day, but these guys seem to have them all too often – to be a top premiership player anyway.

And as I sais earlier, I am seriously concerned about our strikers, another game where thay haven’t scored…

Bloody Lardy Arse has scored again I see 😦

  29. raif says:

Denilson. you can see his a year older. his going in the right direction in terms of his development..

our problem is the players who are Liability’s,
    Diaby, Eboue, Sendaros, Silvest, Almuina,

  30. JonJon says:

friere why would you want wenger out??? the tactics were working..we had manure was the mistakes the players made not the manager..

diabys always been a liability for us raif….

rico..any one of those three you mentioned would fit into the side and do well with the right players around them…if you play one of them with cesc song and rosicky then they will do ok…its playing them all together at the same time that makes them look bad..they are not creative enough…

  31. JonJon says:

almunias been abit hit and miss for me since he’s been our number 1 but everyone of the goals weve conceeded this season so far has been his fault…

so how do we fix it because the defence is we have to score 6 goals a game?? because we obviously wont..theres games we will have to win one nil(like yesterday) and i dont see how with almunia in this form..

  32. raif says:

i really cant stand Diaby as a player. he wenger seems to always wanna play him in the biger games.

i think his so bad his now getting in the way of other players development.

  33. Freire says:

Wenger is stubborn ( dont know if this word is correct). Why did he keep Diaby on the pitch? Why did he keep Diaby against Chelsea last season instead Arshavin on the FA semis?

If you think the tactics will work till the end of the season, I think you’re crazy. Look, we’re going to the 5th round and we have lot of injuries. Fabsk, Nasri, Cesc, Rosicky. Who’s next? With this short squad, we’ll go nowhere. That’s my persnal opinion. Wenger is quit. Arsenal must spend, buy great players, fight for the title every season, follow the UCL title, and not seek for the 4th place.

Wenger is quit for me. The 4.3.3 doesn’t please me. We have no players with the features to play this way.

  34. JonJon says:

and the problem with eboue and diaby raif is that they are ok when they are played in their proper positions…once they move out of their comfort zone and wenger starts playing them all over the place they become liabilities…

both are backup players…eboues a backup RB and diabys a backup support striker…

we know diaby cant play CM becuase he lacks the positioning and the awareness and we know eboue hasnt got a cutting edge in the final third so why play them out of position and why treat them as first teamers????

if your going to play diaby keep him uptop with the strikers away from the midfield and eboue should only play when sagna doesnt…

  35. Irishgunner says:

    Evening all,

You can’t make this up – McGeady got sent off for Celtic today …………… for diving!!!!

  36. rico says:

    Hi raif & Irish

JJ, I now blame Cesc 😉

  37. JonJon says:

i think your way of on your assessments of the team…yes we have injuries and yes wenger is stubborn but do you think we got beat yesterday??? like we got beat last year???? i dont

i know we lost the game and the points but we didnt get beat…we won that game…every battle on the pitch…every aspect of the game we won…

almunia just made a few errors and that was it…we lost becasue of GK errors…not becasue of the formation or the tactics…wenger got it right… the almunia let him down…manure were 2-1 up without making a shot…how can the tactics be wrong when manure dont have a shot at home….we totally outplayed them…

the 433 works…defensiveley we are excellent…manutd didnt have a shot yesterday until the 75th minute…even then it was because we were throwing everything at them and still they could only manage 3 shots all game…one of them was a pen..

the problem we have is that all of our attacking midfielders are out…when cesc nasri and rosicky come back into the midfield the system of 433 will be unplayable…

  38. Irishgunner says:

    Hiya Rico,

I wonder will the Moral Highground police comment on the usual chants AW had to put up with yesterday …..

  39. rico says:

Friere, seriously, that team yesterday ‘on paper’ was more than good enough, and capable of beating the Manure of today – but a few players went missing when it really mattered – we were cruising at 1-0 Manure were no threat, but once they scored their penalty, the midfield buckled instead of stepping up a gear

Irish – thats so funny, serves him right 😉

  40. rico says:

For sure they will not Irish, and it sucks 😦

  41. JonJon says:

the squad may look small but it isnt..we have a massive squad…our problem is that its top heavy in certain areas and not so strong in others…the only player i think we need is another strong midfielder for when song goes away and thats it…

we’ll definately need a new defender next year…if we get one now then great but if we dont it wont affect us too much… we are three games into the season…and weve lost on game…at old trafford…theres no shame in that…not when we were the better team…lets not start buying and selling half the squad and changing the manager already…

  42. JonJon says:

i take that back…i think we need a new keeper as well 😉

  43. Freire says:

I don’t think we got beat yesterday. In my website, I talked about it: I think we won the game, but two silly mistakes from two stupid players let ManUtd get the points.

I just think Wenger must give us some justification about what is happening sometimes. The window is closing, we got Vermaelen and let two starting players go away. We all know Song is limited, and we NEED a defensive midfielder better than Song.

I think there’s something wrong with our players. What happen with them for their constant injuries? Don’t you think it’s time for the Club ( or AW) think about it? We lost 07/08 because of the injuries.

  44. rico says:

That’s the real thing JJ, we had several key players out, they just had an OAP and an ugly sister, we were far the better side, and I am not too depressed about the result..

Like I said yesterday – they lost 2-1 to us last season at our home, then went on to win the league. This season its our time 🙂

Also, I know I harp on about him, but I truly believe that Merida would be better in the side than Denilson

  45. raif says:

JonJ i agree, a keeper is a must i feel. along with a Striker who can play in the middle of that 3 man Attack. and a Defender

  46. Freire says:

I don’t agree with you so much.
If we think our goal was born from a beautiful Arshavin kick outside of the area, we were privileged by some divine force that let that ball enter.

The team didn’t produce togheter. Diaby and Denilson were playing for the wrong side, so why does Arsene keep puting them on the pitch? That’s enough for me.

  47. rico says:

    Its good to disagree 😉

Those players were all clicking against Everton and Celtic (Diaby) but when the going got tough, the tough…. bottled it 😦

  48. JonJon says:

i said the same thing about song last year freire..i said he was limited but the boy has become a man..hes been awesome and he was our best midfielder yesterday…but we have no-one else like him so we probably need another CM as backup…

i think vermalean is what we needed..the defence is sound and with song protecting them we are solid…highballs, counterattacks, throughballs we will be ok…as long as almunia stays solid in the sticks which so far he hasnt…

yes our injuries are becoming a problem but it doesnt help when referees let players like fletcher make 20 fouls in one game without one booking..the players are technical so they are going to get kicked…its up to the refs to make sure they are not and yesterday dean let fletcher do what he wanted..

wenger may surprise us before the window closes but the performance so far have been positive…even yesterday…

last season i was going mad because we were getting beat without putting up a fight….the players look ready this season..we were unlucky was a freak happens once a season and it happened to us early enough to recover…

look at our fixtures in the next few months

    A manchester city
    H Wigan Athletic
    A Fulham
    H Blackburn Rovers
    H Birmingham
    A West Ham United
    H Tottenham Hotspur
    A Wolverhampton
    A Sunderland

we will win all of them, we are still in this..

  49. rico says:

Modric is out with a broken leg, what a bummer for him, he was just started to shine down the road 😉

  50. Freire says:

In my opinion, we have two big problems that can keep us away from the titles:

1- Injuries. I think everyone will agree with me, and everyone already knows about it.

2-The fear – I think the players can’t hold a game like yesterday. Look at Denilson, he was scared of playing against ManUtd, he looked like a lost chicken in the midfield. Diaby played for them, and Almunia was sleeping on the pitch. The players are still too scared of playing against big teams, and big games determine the champions. If we beat only the smaller clubs, that won’t be enough for being champions.

Let’s wait until the game against the spuds…if we lose, the season is quit for me as well.
    No patience anymore =\

  51. raif says:

Good, i hope more of them get injurd

  52. Irishgunner says:

Freire – We look far better than last season, are working a lot harder, Vermaelen looks class.

Still short a bit but don’t let one crap referee, some dodgy keeping and Diaby loosing his mind get you down.

We are better than the Mancs – FACT!!

  53. rico says:

    raif 😉

  54. JonJon says:

freire…what would be your arsenal first team when everyones fit????

    open question to everyone… 😉

  55. Irishgunner says:

AW also said we lacked maturity yesterday so he recognizes that – maybe he has one last player in mind to bring in?

  56. raif says:

plus our new 433 system is suiting our players better,,

we just need a few signings and a few liabilitys to be sold and we will be alright

  57. Irishgunner says:

Can I buy a new keeper Jon Jon? 😉

  58. Freire says:

    Jon, I’d go with
    Sagna – Gallas – Verma – Clichy
    Rosicky-Cesc-Song- Arshavin

Not 433 yet, cuz I think we have no players with that features.

  59. JonJon says:

of corse you can irish…see my team earlier at 12.30 😉

  60. raif says:

alot of our players are lost in a 442. plus that leaves out back line with no cover.

433 is perfect for us, if it wasnt goot enough we would have had a good start.

all we need is the odd 1 or 2 players who could fit into that system and unserstand it from the start,

have faith and wait till the new year

  61. rico says:

JJ, I asked the same question a long while back on another channel, its a hard one to answer – but here’s mine

    Sagna Gallas TV Clichy

    Nasri Song Cesc Thomas

    Arshavin Eduardo

  62. raif says:

    understands** i mean

  63. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha Jon Jon I’ll go with what we’ve got – Casillas isn’t for sale 😉

Almunia, Clichy, Gallas, Vermaelen, Sagna, Rosicky, Fabregas, Song, Arshavin, Eduardo, Van Persie in a 4-3-3

  64. rico says:

Irish – I have been reading some stuff on the Arsene comments he had to put up with, it stinks doesn’t it –

The courts found several fans guilty for the comments chanted at Sol, the police need to do the same with the Manure filthy fans too !!

  65. JonJon says:

    exactley freire…

my team is near enough the same…but where is denilson and diaby???

thats my point…when we have our players back we will storm the league…

we played with our B team yesterday and we totally outplayed manure up until the mistakes…

when cesc, rosicky and nasri return we will be a force to be reckoned with…

if wenger goes out and buys 2 new world class midfielders what do we do when cesc and the rest return…???? we cant play them all can we??

and its like raif said the 433 suits might not with diaby eboue and denilson in the team but as yours and mine and probably arsenes first choice first team suggests, they wont be in it…

keep the faith freire…dont let one flukey result get you down…

  66. Irishgunner says:

Rico – Its sickening. We hear the Liverpool and United fans crying over the Hillsborough and Munich chants – Is it better to spit in the face of the living than that of the dead?

    All bloody hypocrites.

  67. Freire says:

Jon, I’ll keep the faith. LOL.

But I’m sad with the result yesterday because i give my life to Arsenal, and look what they do on the pitch.

You know… the band that changed my life, Oasis, is over. That affected me so much, and I saw that giving my life for something I’ll never recieve as much as I give, I’ll always be frustraded.
That’s why i’m nervous about yesterday.

For Arsenal, my supporting is shit.
    For me, Arsenal is life.

    That’s sad, mates. =\

  68. raif says:

JonJ.. i would say NO to Van Da Vart if we got him..

i know it will pack out Creative Players to the brim but when players of a Acceptable class comes on the market you have to Consider.

as Injurys WILL get the better of us at some point of the season

  69. raif says:

JonJ… i mean to say WOULDNT SAY NO….

  70. JonJon says:

    lol freire…

dont worry about oasis…ive followed them for years and its not the first time theyve split up…they’ll be back together again…

and of course the result hurt…my weekends ruined now…i couldnt even watch Motd or football first last night..

    but we didnt play badly…

you should here me rant and rave sometimes when we lose….. 😉 but the difference yesterday is that we didnt play badly..we didnt deserve to lose…we matched them and was better than them for long periods and theres not a manc fan out there that will say they deserved the points because they didnt…

we will be ok…just look at the fixtures..once the citeh game is out of the way we have a chance in the PL and the CL to gain some momentum..

like rico said the mancs lost at our place last season and went on to win the league..

yes we have passengers in the team but when the key players return we will be firing on all cylinders…

we are a total different team to last year…

  71. Irishgunner says:

Plus with all the stuff that has gone on the past week it has created a proper “Us versus Them” mentality like when AW first came and the meeja were on about all our fouls – we won then, we’ll win now (just keep Diaby away from our goals)!

  72. JonJon says:

raif..if VDV was available for the right price and the right wage id take him…defeinately…

maybe a loan deal is up wengers sleeve???

he would defeinatley add something to the team

i think we didnt go for sniejder cos RvP hates him…VdV on the other hand is a different kettle of fish

  73. raif says:

    why does RVP hate Sniejder?

  74. kelsey says:

    Hello again,

just think about this.Even with a fully fit Cesc,Nasri and Walcott and assuming Diaby played, both goals would still have been conceded.

As I said earlier Almunia doesn’t command his area,it’s seen time and time again.

We were really unlucky and as rico said earlier if Foster hadn’t instinctly put out a foot we would have been 2 -0 up.In fact i thought it was going in.The RVP drought will end soon.

Internationals coming up,if i was AW I would pull the lot out and say they had some sort of injury,as SAF and Benitez does frequently.

  75. JonJon says:

yeah irish…i agree..the dressing room will be a huge varirable into how our season pans out..i think with everything thats gone on its stronger than ever..especially with ade and kolo gone…

  76. paul says:

Just found this site.Like it a lot.Rico/Irish werent you regulars on another blog last season, havent seen you there lately

  77. Freire says:

Wenger won’t be at the sidelines against City?
    If not, who will?

  78. JonJon says:

something happened about 3 years ago during an international… they fell out and then last year sneijder told the tail to a newspaper and started a war of words between the two…sneijder had to make a public apology but rvp has never forgiven him…he wont talk to him when they play for holland…

  79. JonJon says:

if what i can gather is correct..the 4th official has admitted he got it wrong and the LMA have issued an apology to wenger….in this instance..i think the sending off will be recended…alot like when red cards for players are recended and a ban will not be served…

he’ll be on the dugout for the citeh game..

  80. rico says:

This is our season guys and gals, I can feel it in my….. beer 😉 😛

Irish – your comment about Hilsborough – I just wrote a heart felt reply, but deleted it as I think many would be very angry with me.. Chanting such cruel, sick, tainted comments at any person is so so wrong.. And add to that they are untrue, unfounded and illegal.. It makes me sick!

  81. Irishgunner says:

Yes Kelsey, but if we had Cesc, Nasri and Walcott when could have been a few more to the good by then 😉

  82. JonJon says:

    good point irish

almunia was at fault for the goals but our lack of creativity was the reason we only had one…

the mancs were there for the taking…if it would have been 2nil at the time of the pen they would have never have got back into it…

  83. Irishgunner says:

Rico – To be honest we should start singing “Sit down you padeophile” at Ferguson, Bentiez, Ancleotti etc see how they like it

  84. Irishgunner says:

    Exactly Jon Jon

The Mancs midfield is laughably bad – we had a second choice one out (maybe 3rd choice) and had the beatings of them.

  85. JonJon says:

hi paul 4.23…welcome mate and thanks, you are free to blog now… just try not to mention other sites by name 😉

  86. Irishgunner says:

Paul – I’ve matured since last season 😉

  87. JonJon says:

thats why im not too down irish…we fielded three players who are regarded as our liabilitys and we we won the midfield battle…cesc nasri and rosicky would of tore them a new rear hole..

  88. Freire says:

why this, Jon? Not mention other sites by name…?

  89. paul says:

Good point Irish i know where you are coming from.Jon Jon why?

  90. rico says:

Hi Paul – it was more than likely 😉 Good to see you again 🙂

Irish – couldn’t agree more, that might shut the b’stards up 😉

  91. JonJon says:

weve banned other sites names so if they are mentioned in a comment it puts the comment straight into moderation

weve done this becuase we dont want this site to be a place of hatred and abuse towards other sites..weve just cut it out from the source…

  92. Irishgunner says:

Imagine if Cesc was fit, Diaby wouldn’t have played in all probability.

    C’est la vie.

  93. Irishgunner says:

Rico – you know what would happen then “Arsenal fans are the worst in the world” all over the meeja.

  94. Freire says:

    I understand, Jon.

  95. Irishgunner says:

Mowbary: “If the Eduardo situation had not been blown up so big nationally, 99 times out of 100, maybe even 100 out of 100, it would never have been a yellow card.

“I think the referee has been influenced by the diving situation.

“I don’t need to look at it again, it happened right in front of me.”

  96. JonJon says:

i dont think there was much wrong with the selection any way…but id have swapped AA and diaby around and played dudu from the start..

id of had AA as the playmaker in midfield backed up by song and eboue as the cover and put diaby supporting rvp and dudu…

  97. JonJon says:

how the hell can mowbray talk…??

whats the phrase im looking for??? the chickens come home to roost???

  98. Irishgunner says:

Hypocrisy I think, although in fairness Mowbary was grand Tuesday.

  99. Freire says:

    well, going away now.
    good afternoon all.
    have a nice monday.

  100. JonJon says:

cheers freire see ya later buddy

  101. JonJon says:

right guys im off for some food…i’ll be back later..seeya

  102. avenell says:

Poxy Man Citeh.. 1-0 again.. not only do they nick our players they nick our scoreline.. 😦

  103. rico says:

    Irish – re your 4.47, aren’t we already 😦

  104. rico says:

    Haha JJ, roosters 😉

Mowbray was a real gent though, he has stayed away from the witch-hunt..

Hi ave – yes, and Lardy scored again 😦

  105. rico says:

I am off folks, catch you all at sunrise 😉

    Stay safe, nighty night

  106. avenell says:

Hi rico.. er bye rico.. 🙂

    Sunrise what’s that?

  107. avenell says:

I hope we flex a bit of financial muscle tomorrow..

  108. kelsey says:

I naturally follow la Liga and up to date this weekend there have been 8 games with 42 yellow cards and 3 sending offs… that some kind of record. ?

  109. JonJon says:

yeah ave lets hope we buy a new keeper 😉

i suppose it would be kelsey…im guessing those bookings were for dives. 😉

  110. Timex says:

    Haha JJ, roosters 😉

Mowbray was a real gent though, he has stayed away from the witch-hunt..

Hi ave – yes, and Lardy scored again :(;. All the best!!

  111. PDT says:

Hi JJ, thanks for reading my post from yesterday.

I agree with your point about steel.

The reason I am highlighting red cards is because the number of red cards we accumulate a season is an indictaor of how close to he edge we are playing the game. Football is a balance between the nice guy and the guy who we’d rather not have in our team, but who brings that je ne c’est quoi.

  112. JonJon says:

    hi PDT..

yeah it was an interesting point you raise…ive always said that wengers great teams of the past had that certain edge to their game…not only could they play wengerball but they had that steel to accompany it…

they would pass any team off the park and if the other team wanted to go to war we had the players with the ability to roll their sleeves up and earn the right to play wengerball first…the only problem with it was that players like vieira became targets for referees..other teams would kick lumps out of vieira and he would take it but as soon as he gave it back he was booked…

fletcher wouldnt of lasted two minutes with vieira…mike dean let fletcher kick lumps out of us yesterday…if vieira would have been in the team he would have probably been sent off yesterday because if dean wasnt going to defend us vieira would and fletcher would have been kicked into row z…its why i liked flamini so much because he was the unsung hero in the team who would take the fight to the other team..closing them down and pressing the ball..

what makes our style this season so different is i feel we have that workrate back…in recent years we have played beautiful footy but failed to match the workrate of the other team…leading us to drop points against the likes of fulham and hull and stoke..i dont think we will have any problem this season as we have upped our workrate…

    the signs are positive…

  113. PDT says:

    Agree, JJ!

  114. kelsey says:

    Good Morning,

A lot of debate about Almunia yesterday, and the general consensus of opinion is that he is shall we say politely not on top of his form.

There is no question that defensively and in midfield we look much sharper and pressing the opposition all the time.

However in 4 out of 5 games we haven’t kept a clean sheet and without going over old ground again, Almunia has been at fault for 4 of these,by wrong positioning and not calling out to his defenders.

Any other top 4 side who lose their second choice keeper for an estimated 2 months would buy or loan another keeper of equal standing, but no, we have Manone who is yet to start a league game.

Lehmann was dropped after 2 games for one particular howler, but Almunia has no real competition and if you looked carefully, especially in the first half on saturday he had an aloofness and didn’t seem fully concentrated at any time.

A good keeper is worth about 10 points a season, but a weakness of AW is the buying of would be a shame to see the defence performance so well only to be let down by the keeper.

Titles are won by conceding fewer goals than the oppositioon and last years’s stats prove that.

My only other concern is that the gallas/vermaelen partnership looks solid. How many chances did Rooney have on Saturday, but if either get injured or suspended,we don’t have cover of equal proportion.

I would love to see a surprise signing today, here’s hoping.

  115. kelsey says:

Oh another thing, i see we are linked with another 16 year old wonder kid,who happens to be a keeper.if i read anymore about 14,15, and 16 year olds possibly joining us, i will tear my hair our, and i have masses 🙂

  116. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

Good post JonJon, I didn’t get on yesterday to have a read.

How upsetting is it that the Lazyone seems to have found the ability to hit the barn-door at will 😦

Agree kelsey with your thoughts on another keeper and defender – whats happened to Phillipe???????

This time last year we were expecting an 11th hour signing of Alonso……..and this year……who knows

  117. kelsey says:

    Morning peaches,

i got a feeling that Viera will be our surprise signing, and yes where is Send dare ros. poor boy, no one wants him.Maybe Coventry ?

have to say as much as i admire Wenger,he really has gone over the top with his remarks last night, sheer annoyance and frustration i am sure, but he sometimes does himself no favours.Subsequently he will be lambasted yet again.

  118. peachesgooner says:

Hiya – Vieira…….how happy would that make me 🙂

Can he play in goal…….. 😆

  119. JonJon says:

    morning everyone…

i think wenger will sign someone…if he doesnt then it wont matter too much i think the new formation is as good as a new signing…

i also think wenger has come out on top of this and looking around the headlines and the reports he is not being lambasted…

he was right in saying what he said about fletcher…even though he mentioned no names everyone knows who the player is…

the papers..even the red tops have been highlighting fletchers tackles and the disgraceful sending off wenger was subjected to.SSN have been showing replays all morning of fletchers unpunished tackles and manures much higher foul count yet we got more bookings…they also say fletchers foul on AA was a pen..

the referees top dog is to issue an apology to wenger and even they are highlighting the fact dudus potential ban is a can of worms for football…the maximum punishment for a dive is a yellow card…so a two match ban isnt justified especially when we were already 2 nil up…

finally…the biggest impact saturdays game had on the world is that everyone from fans to the media knew we were the better team and they admitt they have underestimated us…its manure they are questioning for negative tactics at home and being totally outplayed…

weve come out on top…for once..

  120. JonJon says:

we need to be careful with the almunia situation…yes he has made errors in all the games weve played and he has been at fault for allour goals conceeded so far this season…its not a good thing when your outfield players are working so hard at creating a brick wall only for your keeper to be totally innefective as the last man..

but as its bee pointed out…who do we replace him with??? good keepers cost alot of money and our young keepers are too inexperienced….

we all know what wengers like for bargains and trying to pick up keepers on the cheap…we could end up with david james.. 😦

  121. JonJon says:

manure will crumble this season…they are a piss poor side without ronaldo and playing at home they will get results like that because the refs will always be on their side like dean was on sat but when it comes to the away games they wont be so lucky…burnley anyone???

  122. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

I have come to the decision last night (well at the start of the season 😉 ) that I am championing Citeh to finish in 4th ahead of their franchise neighbours.

Hughes did himself some good in backing AW in the Eduardo debate so that helped too. C’mon Citeh 😉

  123. Irishgunner says:

Oh and how class would it be for Madrid to knock out the Mancs in the CL after the diving winker dives to win at peno at Old Trafford – lovely 😀

  124. JonJon says:

    hiya irish..

i honestly dont think manure will reach the knockout stages of the CL…

i would love them to finsih outside the top four…but i think it would be bad for football if citeh did it…

id love it if liverpool and the mancs were replaced by everton and villa… 😉

i think the title race is between us and chelsea…if we can stay with them up until the ACN when they lose key players we can take them then…

  125. PDT says:

Good morning/evening, all! What are we discussing today?

  126. JonJon says:

    hi PDT..

how crap manure and fletcher are and potential transfers.. 😉

  127. kelsey says:

    morning PDT,

the surprise signing of viera 😉

  128. PDT says:

I am very uncomfortable with Almunia in goal, but I don’t think Fabianski is dramatically better either. We need a proven goal keeper. I would have taken Given last year, before City got rich.

Also, give Adebayor a few months to settle in and feel loved. He will go back to his old ways.

  129. Irishgunner says:

Jon Jon – The Mancs are bad for football too with the bias towards them so meh all the one to me.

PDT – We are talking about how we are still on track to do well this season if we cut out the silly mistakes.

  130. PDT says:

Kelsey, I’d love to see Vieira back in some kind of coaching/playing role. Maybe bring him on only agaist Fletcher and his ilk.

  131. Irishgunner says:

Has Anderson been totally dropped by the Mancs – himself and his stupid face has cost me a lot of Fantasy Football points.

  132. PDT says:

JJ, (I hope you don’t mind my abbreviating your name), I won’t put buying someone today or tomorrow beyond Vecchio Naso Rosso…I am sure he hasn’t given all of his ill gotten gains from the Ronaldo sale to the Glazers…

  133. PDT says:

Irish, based on how we have done so far, I am positive we will be in the running in February. The only thing I am worried about is overextending our key players in this 4-3-3 formation that we have deployed with such success this year.

We have to keep Fabregas, Arshavin, Eduardo, Rosicky adn Nasri fresh through the Christmas season into the UCL knock out stages. To do that, we have to play Diaby, Ramsey, Eboue, Wilshere, Merida, Theo (through the centre, he’ll do better than RvP) and Denilson consistently against the teams in the lower half.

I am very impressed with Gallas – he’s playing like a 25 year old!

  134. rico says:

    Morning All

    No-one bought yet then 😦

  135. PDT says:

    Where does everybody disappear?

  136. Irishgunner says:

    Agreed on all PDT.

Already we have seen that Wenger is ready to use Ramsay a lot more. Merida is in the squad.

Rosicky I reckon will only be an on/off player. Thankfully though Eduardo seems to have left all the niggles behind him.

Do you think Wenger will make a final push for Chamackh?

  137. PDT says:

Also, I don’t believe the Hackett has the decency to apologize to Arsene.

What’s happened so far is that Arsene’s union rep, Bevan, has gotten red in the face and complained. Only the God above knows what transpired at that meeting as the refs’ association has been ominously quiet.

I’ll believe it when Arsene confirms it.

  138. JonJon says:

    i dont mind PDT..everyone does.. 😉

i agree gallas has been reborn and we will be in the running at xmas…but id like another strong midfielder like song before the window closes…

  139. Irishgunner says:

PDT – They copped out already by blaming the fourth official and not the ref. Shower of jokers.

  140. PDT says:

    Morning Rico!

After the way RvP has been playing, I am sure that Arsene will make a play for Chamakh, either now or in the winter window.

Chamakh may not score goals for us, but his workrate is higher than RvP’s and he is a harrier by nature. He tackles naturally, which is unusual for a forward and he will fit beautifully into a 4-3-3. Unfortunately, none of our current forwards is a natural for a 4-3-3.

  141. JonJon says:

i think he’ll push it to the limit for chamack but i dont feel we need to sign a new striker..

am i the only one who thinks ramsey was a waste of 5 million????

  142. JonJon says:

i think that bendtner can play the frontman better than RVP…rvp would be better used coming in from the right…like holland use him…either that or on the bench…

  143. Irishgunner says:

Only if the £5mil stopped us getting Alonso.

Am I the only one that thinks Nani is a waste of £17million? £17 million – that’s soooooooo funny 😆

  144. PDT says:

I am very sure that Arsene is also looking for a central defender (not a DM), but no one has been linked with us.

He has made repeated comments that he wants to strengthen defensively. Not knowing who he is going after is killing me!

  145. JonJon says:

    irish.. 😉

    what about valencia 16mil
    or berba 32 mil
    or carrick 18mil
    or hargreaves 18mil
    anderson 15mil

  146. Irishgunner says:

Only another two days left PDT and the window will be shut so we’ll know all then.

JonJon – Its like the Djemba Djemba, Kleberson days all over again.

  147. JonJon says:

    you and me both PDT..

i think we should get a CB…not nesecarily for this year but for next year…although i think gallas is playing for a new contract senderos and silvestre will defeinately leave…

ive been think though about Chamkaka…bordeux said they would like silvestre in exchange and tweety hasnt played yet this season has he???

maybe a swap deal is on the cards and wenger will sell senderos and buy a new defender as well…

  148. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Jj.. All those players loses paid for with the sale of Ronaldo.. Lucky b’tard, Ferguson would have only got £40 million last year for him.

  149. JonJon says:

    dont forget veron irish 😆

  150. PDT says:

I sincerely don’t want Senderos to leave. I still rate him higher than JD and am sure he will make the cut if he gets the same chances that JD gets. Rest Gallas against the Boltons and the Blackburns and play Big Phil. All he needs is love from the fans…see how Eboue has become a new player!

  151. rico says:

Hi PDT, hope you are right, we need a striker big time

    Hi ave, good sleep 😉

  152. JonJon says:

    hi ave…

yeah ronaldo does pay for all those players but who pays for the 60+mil interest repayments on loans for the outstanding last 2 seasons???

    well run arent they??? 😉

  153. JonJon says:

although in all fairness thats not fergies fault thats the galziers

  154. Irishgunner says:

Fergie is still a pillock Jon Jon, don’t be standing up for the Mancs 😉

  155. PDT says:

    Morning, Ave!

Fergie plays the game very well in the boardroom. He has Gill who runs defence for him with the Glazers and makes sure that the football dealings are protected at all costs. The Glazers’ over-leveraged-ness (if I may coin a word) just caught is with them and the Ronaldo sale will take care of them this year. They will need to find significant money ver the next three years also, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the next two years were down years for the mancs. Ironically, their down years will coincide with the rise of the sky blue end of Manchester!

Having said that, I wouldn’t put it past Fergie and Gill to have salted away a bit of the stash from the Ronaldo sale for signings. Once on drugs, always on drugs.

  156. JonJon says:

hahaha yeah irish sir snotty face is still a pillock

  157. PDT says:

Hve fun, all! Bye for now..

  158. JonJon says:

once on drugs always on drugs…

  159. Irishgunner says:

Once a pillock always a pillock.

I read this on another site from a Manc:

“Wenger’s reaction, though understandable with the late tension, was not befitting a top EPL manager. You would never see SAf do that!”

  160. JonJon says:

im popping out for a bit guys i’ll be back soon

  161. avenell says:

    New Post guys.. 🙂
