Girls Girls Girls…….

Ok, naf title, but we have drawn the ‘Bhoys’ in The Champions League qualifier, first leg is the 18th August across the border in sunny Scotland – in The Emirates Cup we swept aside Rangers, the current champions of Scotland with some ease, so on paper we should be able to do the same with Celtic.

So what can we expect from our opposition – I am not sure really, but as mentioned yesterday Tony Mowbray likes his sides to play football, so at least we shouldn’t need to worry about the usual bus parked in the goal mouth – in fact it should be a very open game and we should be able to play are quick free flowing football.

This is their current crop of players,

Goalkeepers:
Artur Boruc, Mark Brown, Lukasz Zaluska

Defenders:
Andres Hinkel, Lee Naylor, Stephen McManus, Gary Caldwell, Danny Fox, Mark Wilson, Glenn Loovens, John Kennedy, Darren O’Dea, Paul Caddis.

Midfielders:
Landry NGuemo, Scott Brown, Willo Flood, Marc Crosas, Massimo Donati, Barry Robson, Paddy McCourt, Koki Mizuno, Simon Ferry.

Attackers:
Scott McDonald, Georgios Samaras, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Sean Maloney, Ben Hutchinson, Cillian Sheridan, Chris Killen, Aidan McGeady, Nicholas Riley, Paul McGowan.

Last year Celtic were knocked out in the group stages after finishing bottom of their group which included Manchester United, Villarreal and Aalborg, in fact they came bottom of their group.

So are we in danger of hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons following this tie, or will we return from over the border very happy, several away goals in the bag and a comfortable home leg to look forward to?

On a happy note – The Dippers new midfielder that it meant to excite all their fans is not fit to play for up to eight weeks – is his name really Bischoff 😛

Morning all, this is just a quick post to speed the blogging up, it was taking an age to refresh

  2. JonJon says:

    morning rico

20mil for the new bischoff. 😆

and i dont think we should be worried about celtic…we’ll spank them…

i love it when we get scottish teams…cos they are all shit…

id love the FA to let rangers and celtic and rangers play in the PL….just to shut them up…

they reckon they would be in the top 6 at least…nah…theyd probably make midtable at best…along with citeh… 😉

  3. Rasputin says:

    Morning rico,

I think you’re right … this early in the season we don’t know what to expect. Away to Everton should be a more difficult game than Celtic on paper, but the combined effect of us V’s the scots and the size of the occasion will make it pretty tricky. Not losing and scoring an away goal should be enough to see us cruise through at THOF.

  4. JonJon says:

    we’ll cruise it rasp…

2-0 at their place and 4-0 at ours

  5. rico says:

    Morning JJ and Rasp

I like your confidence JJ, but I am with Rasp, they are unknown in a CL qualifier, and they will be up for the game against us. A couple of away goals would do just nicely 😉

It’s funny though, look at their squad, I havent heard much about any of them other than Samaras, and isn’t he a tennis player without the ‘P’ 😉

  6. rico says:

    Spuds get Bassong from Newcastle
    Villa get Beye from Newcastle

Why the heck dont we just finish them off in defence and take Taylor from them 😉

  7. London says:

    Morning Roadsters

Thank goodness someone changed that post, it was, as you say Rico, taking an age to refresh.

I can’t remember the last time we played a Scottish team in a competative game, does anyone recall?

I still see this as the best draw we could have got.

  8. rico says:

Morning London, wasn’t there a team that sounded like a dessert – they would have been a little easier 😉

  9. rico says:

Citeh are now after Upson, having given up on Lescott it seems …

  10. JonJon says:

the scottish league is really poor….celtic and rangers only stand out because the rest are rubbish…really rubbish…apart from the old firm the rest of the teams would probablt struggle in the coca cola league….

aberdeen got thumped 8-0 on agg the other night to some unknown outer mongolian team…

celtic and rangers are made to look good…

look what the kids did to rangers the other week….

their players came out after the game and said it felt like they were outnumbered and they are scotlands finest…

    we got a good draw…

  11. London says:

Maybe these protracted Senderos negotiations with Everton have included Lescott coming our way.

  12. rico says:

Ok JJ, you have convinced me 🙂

  13. rico says:

London – I sure hope so, he would be the final piece in our defensive jigsaw 😛

  14. Rasputin says:

As it stands, taking into account the players who’ve left, the injuries and the one player we’ve bought … we are weaker than last season…. FACT …… discuss 😉

  15. JonJon says:

hahah citeh are making me laugh…

they keep bidding for lescott cos they think he’ll force a transfer…

hahaha…hes already at a good team…playing regular in europe and regular in the top 6…why would he want to step down…???

    money???

    not all players are mercenaries…

stick to your bellamys and your ades sparky…

the real decent footballers dont have to move for the money…the money will move to them…

they are gonna crash and burn this season and i will piss myself if they get relegated…

  16. London says:

I don’t really see what Lescott gains by staying at Everton; he could double his wage at City or play Champions League football with us and at Everton he gets what?

  17. London says:

    Jonjon

I hadn’t read your comment when I posted my 10:30

  18. JonJon says:

    hey rasp

    i disagree. 🙂

look at the players we lost…ade and kolo…we raised 40mil, got rid of two bad eggs who were disprupting the team and we have better players in the squad….we wont miss them..

without ade we are stronger becuase we wont play long ball any more and we’l play wengerball again…

dudus back, AA is elegiable for all comps, jackys forcing the issue….

i reckon we are stronger than last year…that was a disastor…

we could be even stronger if we sign a few players….

  19. rico says:

Rasp I don’t think the loss of Ade and Toure has weakened us other than in depth, but then Senderos is still with us, and is he any worse than Toure has been recently – and is Simpson any worse than Ade 😉

On the plus we have Thomas, Eduardo, LJ and two new ones being sorted as we write – we have increased the Chamakh offer and London says Lescott is coming our way 😉 It’s going to be fine 🙂

Nasri is the only real injury concern, as I think Thomas will be ready for next Saturday 😛

  20. rico says:

JJ, did I just copy you, or you copy me 😉 😉

  21. JonJon says:

    hi london…

hes at a team that has made him…hes with a manager that knows him and has moulded him…

he would only improve as a player if he came to us or pool or one of the real top 4…

everton are the best of the rest and have been for a few seasons now…

why would he go to citeh??? it would be a total step in the wrong direction…unless its for the money???which it doesnt look like it appeals to him…

he could go to citeh and double his wages but if citeh crash and burn his career could be ruined before hes 30…

they buy lescott this year…but the money is endlesss…so next year they buy rio and terry…what does lescott do then???

at the minute hes at a club that values him as indispensible…his career is under his own control at everton

at citeh nobody is indispensible…you could be replaced tomorrow….

  22. Rasputin says:

Good response folks, last season we were humiliated in the CL semi. We need to be significantly stronger. The signing of Hangelaand would probably be enough to make that difference. I’m off to cricket … hope we do better than England 😦

  23. JonJon says:

chelsea did the same when they were throwing money around…

they ruined so many good players careers by just buying everyone…

    SWP, scotty parker, steve sidwell,

they were all doing really well, especially scotty and SWP…

chelsea bought them along with 20 others and stuck them on the bench…

    set them back…

fabian delph was wanted by citeh too…but he turned them down becuase he said he wants to improve as a footballer….so he went to villa where he will get a chance…

the quality footballers will get enough money over there careers..if they are good enough the big teams will come calling along with the big contracts at some point….

citeh are full of the players that just want the money and dont care about trophies or anything…

their a shit club with shit principles and the more footballers that turn them down the better…theyve been forced to buy all the crap….

“we are signing kaka and ronaldo and cesc”

    bellamy,adebayor and barry…

    PMSL….

  24. London says:

    Morning Rasp

Are we weaker without Adebayor? I will leave that decision to Jonjon, if you listen carefully you should be able to hear the answer coming down the M1, ohh it’s getting louder. lol

Are we weaker without Toure? Possibly but we have bought Vermaelen so not really in my opinion.

Are Denilson, Song, Diaby, Ramsey, Wishire more experienced this season? Yes and they should make more of a contribution.

And now le coup de grace do we have one of the most clinical goal scores back? Yes we do, and we will have Rosicky for at the very least some of the season.

And, I almost forgot we will have Arshavin in the CL.

So, my answer to the question: are we stronger this season would be a resounding: Yes.

Now add Wenger’s intention of buying two more players and you can come and join my party and the singing of the song we are going to win the league….simples

There are some very cynical people out there in blogsphere (not on this channel) that would try and suggest that we are not………to them I say you have lost the magic.

  25. JonJon says:

    rico, great minds…. 😉

    have fun rasp…

yeah i agree that we were embarrased both cup semis…but it was more of the tactics and lineups than not being strong enough…wenger cocked up in both cups…

we all know what happend Vs chelsea and against manure he played ade up top by himself when ade had spent the last 10 games not bothering to run and he played cesc in the hole where the last 5 games cesc had played in the whole he’d been double marked and was shit…

come to think of it,many of the cockups we had last year was becuase of wengers dodgy lineups and tactics….

  26. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Rasp we also beat Man U without Ade in the team.. That means we are stronger without him.. 🙂

We have players who want to work hard together now, plus Arshavin plus the rest of the squad are a year older.. How can the improvememt be gauged?

On paper it may not look strong, but the improvement of Gibbs, Bendtner, Song, and even Denilson must be significant.

  27. London says:

A couple of very uplifting comments there Jonjon. I like the idea that players are starting to see past what City have to offer.

  28. JonJon says:

    london…

    “lost the magic”…

    well put that man…well said…

  29. London says:

I forgot about Bendtner and Gibbs.

    Morning Ave

  30. rico says:

Off for a while, ducks to feed 😛

Catch you all in a little while

    Hi ave

  31. avenell says:

    Morning London..

Also Ramsey turns 19 this year and wilshere 18, so they will get a few games.. Probably they are 18 months behind Denilson and Song,
Fabianski got some good experience too.

  32. JonJon says:

    see ya rico…

    hello ave…

  33. avenell says:

    Morning rico..
Thanks for the post, your title has made me think of a few more songs as titles if I do the match report. 🙂

  34. avenell says:

Hi JJ.. Always book in on the Widget.. 😉

  35. JonJon says:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/8189501.stm

    has anyone seen this….

this looks like to me that the player is about to sign for a club he wants to join for not a right lot of cash and the selling club want to create a last minute bidding war???

  36. JonJon says:

i know…i came on this morning and was beaten to it.. haha..

not to worry…extra post for next week.. 😉

  37. JonJon says:

im popping out for a bit…

my season offically starts today and it invloves bookies and football coupons…

i hate the summer…no football…and theres no fun in betting on the cricket… i dont want to wait 5 days to see if ive won any money or not.. 😉

  38. Rasputin says:

Just popped in after preparing the pitch.

Unsurprisingly you all disagreed with the proposition 😛

We will suffer significant injuries. Some players have improved. Some that were injured will play some games. We are fewer in numbers therefore the squad is lighter than last season. A fully fit team picked from our best 15 players is going to be competitive unless as is often the case, all the injuries occur to players who play in the same position – I wouldn’t want to lose our 1st and 2nd choice GK’s !!!

We need two more squad quality players or just one 1st team ability CB IMO

  39. Rasputin says:

By the way, I didn’t say that the team was weaker without Adebayor …….

  40. avenell says:

Hi Rasp.. who are you playing against today?

  41. London says:

    Rasp

    That was a good question.

How do you make out that we have fewer numbers this season? Adebayor gone; Eduardo back, Toure out, Vermaelen in. Add the return of Rosicky (hopefully) and it could be argued that we have more. As boring as it might sound Eduardo and Rosicky are like having two new players. That said, I do agree that a couple more signings wouldn’t go a miss. But what more would you like Wenger to do? He is already on record saying that he intends to buy two more players before the start of the season.

  42. Rasputin says:

Hi ave …. We’re playing Little Bardfield – I must win game!!!

I’m just off to mark out the pitch and boundary.

Have a good day in the sun Roadsters … catch up with you all later I hope 🙂

  43. avenell says:

    Good luck Raspno!

Are we comparing from the end of last season until now?

If so just losing Adebayor makes us a stronger unit.. as Arsene has lost the choice to pick the player as he felt obliged to as he was the highest paid striker..

Also Rasp.. I wasn’t suggesting you was saying anything about Ade in particular, but he does come in to the topic of discussion..

  44. rico says:

Afternoon – ducks all fed & watered, as am I…. 😛

  45. avenell says:

You english cricket fans and your ducks.. 🙂

  46. rico says:

Ah, there is life then 😉

  47. rico says:

Or maybe not – catch you later

  48. Rasputin says:

We won – just going down the Rest & Welcome for a celebratory pint of Country 😛

  49. Rasputin says:

Help fellow gooners – where can I get a stream to watch the match?

  50. avenell says:

Evening Rasp.. how did you get on (your score) today?

The stream is supposed to be on..

    http://www.iraqgoals.net/ch4.html

  51. JonJon says:

    what times kick off??

  52. peachesgooner says:

You’d best all get round to my gaff cos I’ve got it on my tv 🙂

  53. peachesgooner says:

    Kick-off at 8.30 JJ………

  54. JonJon says:

    cheers…

howve you got it on tv peaches??? ATV??

  55. JonJon says:

do we know the lineups yet???

  56. peachesgooner says:

yep…….i’ve got ATV on-line and cos i’m so clever i can connect it and watch it through my tv 🙂 🙂 🙂

  57. JonJon says:

    oooooh get you peaches… 😉

  58. London says:

How the hell do you do that? Seriously jealous

  59. London says:

    Diaby…….with hair…..spooky

  60. London says:

    Why isn’t D Villa playing?

  61. JonJon says:

good thing about this is that wengers been going mad since the 1st whistle…

i dont care what he says in the press conferences or how calm he is during interviews…

if he needs proof to sign new players he needs to play the tapes backs of the game and watch himself…

he does exactly what we all do watching some of the dribble we class as first teamers….yet he never learns

  62. Rasputin says:

Hi ave … raspno didn’t get to wield the willow – so I was not out because I was no in 😆

    Why haven’t we scored yet?

  63. peachesgooner says:

Eboue is our best player 🙂

  64. peachesgooner says:

Not quuite true……AA has been good…..all the play up the left, Nik has hardly seen the ball

  65. peachesgooner says:

    New team for 2nd half

  66. peachesgooner says:

London – if you’re very good I’ll tell you how to watch it on your tv 😛

  67. avenell says:

Watch wilshere outshine that knob Villa.. c’mon jack!!

  68. avenell says:

Villa is worse than bendtner.. lol

  69. JonJon says:

lost my stream ages ago…anything new???

    or are we still shite??

  70. avenell says:

    1-0 down and crap.. 😦

  71. avenell says:

and villa missed a penalty.. hahaha

  72. JonJon says:

    was it a set piece??

  73. avenell says:

Yeah sort of.. after a deflected shot.

  74. JonJon says:

    typical…

is eboue still their man of the match????

good to see the new formation working well then…

  75. avenell says:

That should have been another penalty to them..

  76. avenell says:

2-0 that should give us a kick up the arse before the season starts.. may be the best thing that could have happened..

  77. London says:

Guess I am going to have to wait a very, very long time to find out how to rig the computer up to the telly.

  78. JonJon says:

    yup agree with that ave…

i said earlier..all i could see was wenger going mad earlier..that should answer all the doubts he has about new players..we need em…

what was the second goal like???

  79. peachesgooner says:

Villa left Sylvestre behind and slipped the ball between Fabianskis legs – I think Fabianski was injured 😦

  80. Rasputin says:

Sylvestre should never be allowed to wear the shirt again … sub standard manure reject …….

  81. peachesgooner says:

Hi rasp – were you snoozing 😛

  82. Rasputin says:

Yes I’m afraid I have been peaches. It was very hot running about in the outfield and I’m cream crackered.

From what I have read, we played quite a few players out of position … what’s that all about … that’s one of the things that drove me mad last season 😦

  83. peachesgooner says:

Well we learn’t couple of things from the 2nd half – Traore ( sorry you know how I feel about him 🙂 ) will give penalties away on the big stage – he could have given away 2………

Theo can be creative for about 10 minutes 🙂 and I love him too…..

  84. Rasputin says:

Sounds to me like you are scraping around to find positives 😕

  85. peachesgooner says:

Bugger……..just typed a long comment and it went puff up in smoke 😦 😦

  86. peachesgooner says:

Nevermind, i’ll tell you tmoro 😀

  87. Rasputin says:

Keeping me in suspense eh? … where is everyone else?

  88. peachesgooner says:

    Somewhere else i reckon 🙂

Did you see on the news that Mark Lester reckons he’s Paris Jacksons biological father……

  89. Rasputin says:

No I didn’t – is he to be the new CB we are hoping for?

  90. peachesgooner says:

    Durrrrrrr 🙂 🙂 🙂

  91. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters and Roosters,

Any thoughts on yesterday’s game from those who found a stream?

  92. rico says:

    Morning Roasters 😉

Didn’t see the game last night, but not a good result losing to a side that Manure whipped 😦

  93. rico says:

I thought Merida had gone out on loan? He is shown as a second half substitute last night, hope this means he has not gone after all

  94. raif says:

i think he has gone Rico.. its just a matter of when he is ment to go

  95. rico says:

Morning raif – thats a real shame, got my hopes up for a while then 😉

  96. raif says:

i was reading on sky sports that he was gone on loan. its a shame really i was also hoping we would have seen more of him this season..

maybe his abit like reyes and misses home alot so wenger sends him back home on loan to keep him on the books till his big enough to break into the first team.

or wenger is just advertising him for the spanish clubs to buy,

  97. rico says:

Don’t think he will be sold raif, he is too good, and I think probably a ready made replacement for Cesc if he ever decides to leave.

I just hoped this season he would be in the CC and FA Cup squads, and some bench appearances in EPL. Merida has said he is very happy with us but does want to play football – if anything the loan should only have been until Christmas – 😦

  98. rico says:

Got to go for a while, laters

  99. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

Where are our two new players 😦

  100. London says:

    New post

  101. JonJon says:

    hi everyone…

what was last night about?? i know friendlies are just friendlies….but the are part of our preparation…

when we were trashing rangers with our kids we were waxing lyrical and having kittens….

so are we just gonna ignore last nights performance??

    i only saw 40mins of the 1st half…

we were poor….i just dont see what the likes of eboue and diaby bring to the party….

we have to play as a team in order for our game to work properly….like we did against rangers..that was perfect….

any weak links in the chain and we are just not that effective and spend most of the game largely on the back foot

so why does wenger continue with the weak links????

  102. Irishgunner says:

    Jon Jon

The way I see it, if AW doesn’t strengthen the squad,

    (A) We have no money and are been lied to.
    OR
    (B) Our manager needs some cocoa and a lie down

I don’t like this “end of window” stuff, we need some defensive help before Saturday.

  103. Rasputin says:

We suffered from the some of the obvious deficiencies of last season in yesterday’s game. The side wasn’t balanced because he played players out of position…… why??? There were players who aren’t of first team quality – Diaby will always be a liability in midfield. We need to strengthen the squad with some quality players. We can expect more injuries, I understand Fabianski now has a problem.
