Panic on the Streets of London!

Yesterday we lost the last of the ‘Invincibles’. I would like to wish Kolo the best, but I feel he has betrayed us by joining another Premiership team, he could just be the difference in us winning the title or coming second,  so I will just say thanks for what you have achieved with us and as we only paid £150,000 for him 7 years ago, you can knock Wenger for selling him, but you cannot knock him for the price he paid for him.
I agree with Ray Parlour on this one “There’s a lot of centre-halves out there who you could get in for cheaper than that, who are maybe on the right side of 25 or 26”

And two weeks ago we lost a 30 goals a season striker, oh no!! Another £22 million pound profit.
Big names, and bigger names now because of their price tags, yet they are still the same players even if we never broke the bank for them..

I am trying to keep a reality check on this, before I slash my wrists, I must remember vertical if you mean it, horizontal to seek attention. (a little tip)

Since we came 3rd in the League two seasons ago we have lost.

Gilberto.. replaced him with Song.. (not the Bert in his prime…. the soon to be 33year old one).

Flamini .. replaced him with Denilson.. (you know my views on the Flamster)

Hleb.. replaced him with Arshavin.. (that’s an improvement we can agree on).

Toure… replaced him with Vermaelen (Perhaps it would have been better if we sold Kolo first, that would have made us feel better, it’s also strange that Thomas was never given a squad no, he sits their in Arse.com blank.. perhaps Kolo was offski anyway. mmm)

Adebayor.. replaced him with Bendtner.. (not exactly replaced just a step up for Nikki)..

We have also gained Nasri, who was the same age when he joined as Theo is now, we all forget how young Samir is, but we only make allowances for Theo’s age. It also took Sir Bobby a year or so to settle, so when Nasri is back, he seems to be quite a fit type of player so he should regain fitness quickly, I am sure we will see a real improvement in him

We also went 18 months without two of our biggest signings Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo, they now both look to have recovered from their injuries.

In today’s inflated market..  Tomas would be fetching banging on £30 million and Dudu must be worth £25 million. I know Arsene says they will be like new signings and we all groan, but in fairness they are players who haven’t played and would be a quality addition to any team.
Also with the loyalty and affection that the club and the fans have showed these two, I get the feeling that they will also show us loyalty in return..
Their has also been an evolution in other area’s Gibbs has come on bundles, Fabianski has shown he can step up to first team standard (if he chills a bit). Djourou has put in some good performances, RvP has gone a whole season without getting injured..
We should start to reap the rewards from our investment in youth too, Ramsey and Theo cost over £15 million plus their wages and the time spent training them.
So we have lost who I think is our most hated ever player (along with Cashley). We have lost a loyal player in Toure, but we have been moaning about him since he has returned from the African Cup of Nations.. and we won’t weaken this January like we did two years ago..

Out of all the positions we are weak in, the one that concerns me the most is if we lose Eboue we have no cover for right back, I would like to see a midfield player to come in alongside Cesc, but come on, is their a team anywhere that couldn’t improve in one area?
The team we had 2 years ago was good enough to win the League, until injuries, the A.C.N. and some pretty poor refereeing decisions cost us in vital games and in the Champions League against the Scousers.

Mr Wenger obe probably has 25 plus targets around the world and has soon as one steps into his valuation of the player and into what he considers to accept a fair wage, he will be in, no problem..

I know I have said it before but I think we will be okay with what we have and we still have 5 weeks before the transfer window ends, so I may get a bonus on top.. I hope so.. The Huntelaar rumours are gaining strength, he wants us, we just need to introduce Real Madrid back into the “real” world.
The Villa rumour is a bit too speculative and will wind up the “I want a silver trophy today” fans when we don’t get him, the Di Rossi thing is a airbrush hoax, Who saves a web page as a jpeg.. c’mon?
When we all blast Arsene we should remember football isn’t an exact science, hindsight is a wonderful thing and we have to balance the books…
But at a time when football has gone nuts, let’s stick together and get behind The Arsenal..

The Press don’t rate us, the bookies don’t rate us, Talk Shite don’t rate us.. I love it!!!

    Morning Roadsters..

Two more thoughts .. Did Vieira use his interest in the Spuds as a cry for help? come and get me…

And If Eboue was a done deal.. Why did we risk him for a large chunk of yesterdays game?.. I don’t see who would gain from it..

  2. rico says:

    Morning Roasters 😉

Nice one ave, getting a post on just after midnight, makes it look as if you were up early 😉

Yesterday was a sad day, and as you say, the last one of ‘that season’ – but today I get up to hear Kolo will be in a blue shirt in an interview with Sky TV, so he is now long forgotton in my mind! Thanks for the memories Kolo, but now I hope your ligaments go ‘ping’..

The rumours are rife – and its actually quite exciting, just imagine if they all are true – we will have

    Paddy
    Matuidi
    De Rossi
    Huntelaar
    Chamakh
    David Villa…

Wow, some team we would have eh, ok ok, I will stop dreaming, but three of those above are coming our way, which three is anyones guess. 🙂 😛

  3. rico says:

ave – good point about Eboue, maybe the deal is not quite done and he needed a good game to secure it, or maybe he just begged the boss for a chance to say goodbye to a few fans – after seeing the video of him after the game, it certainly seems that he is off

  4. London says:

    Morning Ave

Would it be fair to describe your post as an assessment on how we stand today? That’s what it struck me as at the end of an enjoyable read. I particularly liked the flashes of hope and optimism.

  5. rico says:

Morning London, you will have a long wait for a comment from ave, he will still be fast asleep 😉

  6. rico says:

What do make of the Vieira speculation London ?

  7. chaf says:

    Good morning Roadies.

My thoughts summed up in one sentence are that we need to plug the hole and stop people scoring against us, the rest we can do. Simple.

  8. chaf says:

Just read the Pat news. Thats not a Wenger move, unless its long term, or to play him at CB. Or both.

  9. chaf says:

Typical, not been here for ages and no one around!

  10. chaf says:

Actually, while I’m here and no one is disagreeing with me, I’d just like to say that all of Wengers plans over the last five years have been long term, but he keeps replacing his long term plans with new long term plans. At the moment the team is still ‘in progress’. And that is the way it always seems to be. Thats what annoys me..

The other thing is, I can’t work out if I don’t like football as much as I used to, because of the vulgarity of Chelsea/ Man City etc, or its because we’re not winning anything, or not likely to with our budget teams.

  11. chaf says:

By the way Ave (when you get up), some great posts lately…..

  12. chaf says:

Is there a record of “Most comments made to yourself’ on here, I must be in with a chance…

  13. peachesgooner says:

Hi chaf – how are you, where you been…..

Agree with you about ‘team in progres’ it seems we might not get to see the finished product at the rate we’re changing players….. 🙂

  14. Rasputin says:

    Morning chaf,

    Sorry you’re being ignored.

    Morning ave,

Well done on presenting the positive side so succinctly. The defence still worries me. I don’t think we have a stand-out goal keeper. If I view our prospects using last night’s game as a model, I’d say that its all down to the luck of injuries yet again. The first half team was great. Nik, RVP and Cesc were playing Wengerball. The second half was dismal. Song and Denilson didn’t work, Tweetypie an embarrassment, Eboue on left midfield and TV and JD getting in each others way. We will not be buying Villa … why do people keep listing him as a maybe?

  15. Cartman says:

    morning all!
so toure’s gone… thanks kolo, u will be missed!

viera is linked for a return… i just dont know what to think of this viera rumour!

  16. Rasputin says:

    Morning Cartman,

I haven’t read a bad word about Toure. I don’t know how you wish someone well but don’t want them to succeed at the same time? I saw the picture of him with MH holding up a citeh shirt and thought…no, you’re never really going to be one of them … you’re a gooner and always will be.

  17. peachesgooner says:

Morning ave – when you get up….. 😉

This mornings post was a good read – I also love it when we’re the underdogs and hopefully this team will have everyone purring about us again really soon .. 😀

  18. peachesgooner says:

    Morning rasp

Toure in a Citeh shirt is going to be just rubbish to see – what a shame, there we were looking forward to watching Ade muck up and now we’ll have the heart-ache of having to see Toure too 😦

Looks like they’re gonna get Lescott too so they will have an experienced defence 😦 😦

Gonna check the weather forcast for Sunday maybe that’ll cheer me up…….

    Nikki’s gonna be great 🙂 😉 😀

  19. Cartman says:

going to the beach this afternoon and i think i’ll leave my laptop at home!!!

  20. peachesgooner says:

Cartman – shall we save all the good news ’till you get back then 🙂

  21. Rasputin says:

    Morning peaches,

Chaf made some very good points earlier – about long term plans being revised year on year…. unfortunately no-one was around to chat to him.

  22. Cartman says:

peaches, sure (if there’s good news)!

anyway i’m off! be back on monday, have a great day!!! 😉

  23. Rasputin says:

    ???

  24. rico says:

    Morning again all,

This doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence 😦

Wenger – If I spend, I’ll do it the right way

Arsène Wenger knows he must spend his money “in the right way” if he decides to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.

The Arsenal manager has funds available and the sale of two major players would suggest he needs to go into the market.

However the Frenchman is not so sure. After the 1-0 win at Hannover he cautioned against knee-jerk reactions and revealed he was not close to bringing in a new name.

“I feel we are strong enough but if we can add then we will do it,” he said.

“In England people think that all the problems can be sorted out by buying players.

“I believe the biggest target is to work hard in training, improve what we can improve and have confidence in the players that we have.

“If we need to add then we will. We have money available so for us it is now [important] to spend it in the right way when we do it or if we do it.

“But unfortunately I cannot tell you that we are close to signing anyone at the moment.”

The official confirmation of any new addition will appear first on Arsenal.com.

  25. rico says:

Just read back, poor old chaf, I must have missed him by seconds – phone rang and i had to go.. sorry chaf

  26. rico says:

SSN’s are reporting that Alonso has submitted a written transfer request to the dippers – thats him gone to Madrid aswell then, they are going to be one heck of a side this season.. Glad they are in Spain (if you know what i mean)

  27. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

I don’t think any signings are imminent. I hope ave is right and we don’t need them. At best we may sign one £8 – 10m player and get a cheapy as some kind of back-up. I’m afraid any notion of Villa is pure fantasy.

  28. rico says:

That’s just what I was getting at with yesterdays post, compare the players that Madrid are buying with those that Citeh are buying with all their millions…

  29. rico says:

    Hi Rasp

I know the Villa rumour is just pie in the sky, but its funny, I dont know who starts its all off, my comment earlier was very very tongue in cheek about if we bought all those we are ‘linked’ to, we would have a half decent side 😉

  30. rico says:

Celtic got beat last night at home to D. Moscow in CL QF round – 1-0, thats a bit of a shock…

  31. Rasputin says:

Ha ha rico – yes I realised. We’ve alreday got a more than half decent side. I think CB partnerships take some time to develop, and we can’t expect TV to just gel ….

  32. Rasputin says:

That should have said gel straight away. I expect AW thinks that TV and Gallas will be his first choice CB’s with JD as a more than adequate back-up. He has played JD as defensive midfield, and that’s not a bad idea as he is a good footballer. Traore looks like a genuine left winger to me … fast, can deliver a good cross and strong defensively, but it doesn’t look like we need him in that position.

  33. rico says:

Its a strage old window though Rasp, apart from Citeh no-one is really buying at the moment, not like the usual deals going through –

But if the boss is buying a couple of players, (other than the two to be announced on Sunday), he best start negotiations soon, it takes us 30 days to buy a player, but 48 hours to sell one 😉

  34. rico says:

Its quiet here this morning 😦

I dont know Rasp, Thomas fitness is still unknown and if he has any set back, Traore is a good back up for Arshavin. On the right I guess Theo and Nasri will be doing battle for that position, at least we may not be seeing Eboue play there, albeit I think he has a wicked cross on him at times too!

  35. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

I love been underdogs in any sport 🙂

    C’mon you Gunners.

We still need defensive steel, not so pushed about an attacker, unless of course it was David Villa 😉

  36. rico says:

Morning Irish – I think AW likes us to be underdogs too 😉

  37. Irishgunner says:

    Excellent news 🙂

” Javier Mascherano’s brother has poured more misery on Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez by reiterating the Argentina captain’s desire to leave Anfield.

Seeing red: Javier Mascherano is causing Liverpool problems. Benitez looks set to lose his battle to keep Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid’s clutches and has another battle trying to keep Mascherano happy on Merseyside.”

  38. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

I will join you just for today rasputin and be shall we say a little concerned as to being pessimistic.

Ade and toure are gone, shortly to be joined by Eboue.Senderos can stay or leave, according to Wenger(whatever that means.)
Rosicky has picked up a knock
fabianski and nasri are out until October.
our defence looked imbalanced last night.
A lot depends on RVP remaining fit,and Eduardo will be eased in.
We need at least 3 players hopefully we get two,I am giving up on guessing, but it is plain to me that our finances are at a bare minimum.
Eduardo and arshavin have been called up for international duty on August 12th.
Too much uncertainty or stability with just over two weeks of the season to go.

  39. Irishgunner says:

Imagine if the media’s favourites Liverpool were knocked out of the big 4 AGAIN 😆

  40. rico says:

Spooky Irish, hust reading that on NN – would love it if Alonso and Masc leave them 😛

  41. peachesgooner says:

Now I’m really pleased that we didn’t get Alonso, we would heve won the title and Real Madrid would have come knocking for him 😥

    Morning Irish, rico and kelsey

  42. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha Rico, then they would have Lucas as a starter ha ha 😀

  43. rico says:

    Morning kelsey

  44. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – we all need to slit our wrists after reading your round-up 😳

I don’t mind volunteering to make the tea at half-time but I don’t fancy being a defender 🙂

  45. rico says:

Morning peaches – if he had come to us, he would have played alongside his best mate, he wouldnt have wanted to leave us, its the dippers he wants rid of…

  46. Irishgunner says:

    Morning Peaches and Kelsey

  47. Rasputin says:

    Morning Irish and kelsey,

I agree, I much prefer to be underdogs – bunker mentality and all that. Historically we’ve been at our best with our backs against the wall. We got to the CL final with Flamini playing at left back and Phil in the defence. We had an unbeaten run without Cesc in the side lasy year.

Our mentality and results improved no end after 6 suspensions in the manu game and went on a winning run. I don’t think that those coming back from long term injury are likely to stay consistently fit throughout the season – Diaby didn’t.

  48. peachesgooner says:

Where is Diaby? I hope he’s not being saved for the Emirates Cup……

Looking foward to seeing Tomas though, I hope he makes an appearance on Sunday, the crowd will go crazy when his name is announced. I’m such a romantic 🙂 🙂 🙂

  49. avenell says:

Morning Roadsters.. I haven’t got much time as I have to pop out to sort out my computer collection (again).

Peaches.. Diaby was undergoing some personal training to help him bulk up and be less prone to injuries.. last I heard.

  50. rico says:

Morning ave – weetabix and weights for Diaby then 😉

  51. rico says:

Are you going Sunday peaches ? You will get to see our new players first 🙂

  52. peachesgooner says:

Yes rico I am going although Arsenal v Rangers is hardly a mouthwatering prospect……..got seats in Club Level too……. 😉

  53. Irishgunner says:

Club Level – ooooooooooooh posh, enjoy the sandwiches 😉

Pity I can’t go on Sunday, there are a few Celtic jerseys lying around the house here, I heard Rangers fans love the sight of them 😀

  54. rico says:

That will be fab, Rangers will be up for it though peaches, both they and Celtic are always going on about being in the EPL and how they would be up the top half (well kind of that) it will be a good test, and I hope a wonderful game of football…

Club level eh, get you 🙂

  55. rico says:

Did you see Celtic got beat last night Irish in the CL qualifier 😦

  56. Irishgunner says:

Didn’t see the match but heard about it. I’m really hoping Mowbary does well. Hopefully they can turn it around – an early away goal and they could be okay.

Nakamura is a big loss for them.

  57. rico says:

He sounds like a Russian wrestler Irish 😉

  58. Irishgunner says:

    😆 Rico

This is a very good read, written by a United fan no less:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/226584-love-united-hate-arsenal-but-i-want-the-gunners-to-succeed/

  59. Irishgunner says:

Lady Nina has a buyer for her shares
    By Myles Palmer

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

I’d been wondering why it was taking Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith so long to flog her shares.

    Stan Kroenke has 28.58%

    Danny Fiszman has 16.1%

Red & White Holdings have 25%

Other shareholders (inc. Arsenal Supporters Trust) own 14% .

    Lady NIna owns 15.9%.

And now she has found a buyer who is a friend of Red & White.

    True or false?

  60. London says:

    Peaches

As I said before, I have no intention of entering into an email dialogue with you, anything I have to say I will do so on the blog.

Your criticism is imaginary, nothing highlights this more than the idea that I was referring to Rasputin yesterday when I replied to Rico’s headline post: the disclaimer was purposely put there to make the point that my comment was not aimed at anyone in particular, especially Rasputin.

    London Says:

    Clever, clever post Rico
I, of course, love the optimism.
There is one small point I would question “history has made us all negative with Arsene’s signings” (Rico)
Wenger’s reputation of not doing as much as he should in the transfer window only stems from last summer and I agree with the consensuses that Wenger did not cover himself in glory.
But that is just one year…..one single, solitary transfer window. In every other transfer window during which Wenger has been at the club he has come up trumps and surprised us by signing someone we were not expecting. So on that basis I think my optimism is more rational and valid than other people’s pessimism.
Disclaimer: this is a general comment and not aimed at anyone in particular.

  61. peachesgooner says:

    David Dein???????????????????????

I hope so, we need him back…..

  62. rico says:

That suggests R&W are very soon to be in a position to take us over – or am i barking up the wrong tree 😉

  63. Irishgunner says:

Never thought of him Peaches … interesting!!

  64. rico says:

That a nice report Irish – I am the same with Manure though, if we cant win things, I would much rather it be them than the others around us…

Have to pop out for a while, catch you all a little later

  65. Irishgunner says:

Rico – How much do we believe Myles though? Although I will give him that Lady Nina is a lady scorned and probably wants to sell her shares

  66. rico says:

Mme, forgot that important part Irish 😉

    Out of 10 – I say Nil 😉

  67. peachesgooner says:

London – I have asked you politely to drop the subject of previous spats……….

  68. peachesgooner says:

Irish – that was a very good article from the Manc, do you think they realise they’re gonna have a hard year too …..

  69. Irishgunner says:

Some of them are a bit worried Peaches as they realise Ronaldo is a massive loss although Valencia is meant to have fitted in quite well.

I think though they are United fans like us Arsenal fans who long for the return of the good old days of Vieira vs Keane, Wenger vs Ferguson, Arsenal vs United – those were the days. It was real football.

  70. peachesgooner says:

You’re absolutely right there – that was real competition, I think we saw a glimpse of it in the home game in the Premeiership against Manu last season – it was a proper game of football……..

  71. Irishgunner says:

    Exactly.

It was proper heated battle, it really felt like both sets of players were really playing for the shirt and pride not a paypacket.

  72. Rasputin says:

    Hi again Irish / peaches,

I’m worried about the Lady Nina story. IMO it would be bad news if Usamov has his hands on them – a takeover bid will follow without doubt. It could be good news if DD has acquired them…… Usamov certainly can afford them and would easily outbid DD if such a situation were allowed. I’m crap at this stuff, but seeing the tricks Usamov’s been up to lately, I fear he may be the recipient.

  73. Irishgunner says:

Red and White Holdings is the umbrella Usmanov is under isn’t it?

And Dein was involved with them up to quite recently until Usmanov dismissed him in hopes of winning favour with the board.

  74. Irishgunner says:

” And now she has found a buyer who is a friend of Red & White” – If we are to believe Myles Palmer, it does sound like David Dein.

  75. Rasputin says:

I hope you/Myles are right Irish, and I hope DD is still friendly with Kroenke – it would make everything so much more cosy and hopefully create stability at Board level….

  76. Irishgunner says:

Rasp – In my opinion it’d be a Usmanov/David Dein combo now. I honestly believe if we see David Dein back at Arsenal, Usmanov will own the club.

  77. kelsey says:

Have to agree with irish tere, rasputin. Can’t see where Kroenke fits in with DD.

  78. Irishgunner says:

    Gazidis – Kroenke

    Dein – Usmanov

That’s the way I see it.

If Usmanov does manage to get control, I can still see Gazidis at the club and will be called CEO but he’ll be over media and merchandise, David Dein would be back with a bang.

  79. Rasputin says:

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky suffered a minor injury problem as he seeks to make his way back into the Arsenal team following 18 months on the sidelines.

Tomas Rosicky has a ‘minor injury’ that is preventing him from playing. The Czech Republic star had been out of action for almost two years with knee and hamstring issues, and was desperate for an injury-free run to help force his way back into the Arsenal side.

But the club admitted today that he had picked up a “minor problem” in Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Barnet earlier this month.

Rosicky may even miss the Emirates Cup, Arsenal’s pre-season tournament featuring Athletico Madrid, Rangers and Paris Saint-Germain that begins on Saturday.

Despite Rosicky’s injury blow and the availability of almost £30m in transfer funds Wenger has refused to be rushed into making new signings.

  80. kelsey says:

there are 62217 shares at arsenal. .8% = 500 shares Peter HillWood. Lady Nina has 15.9% and the carrs about 5%. Now i have to find out how many shares DD had that he sold for 75 million.

The purpose of this exercise is to see how the balance of power would swing if the alleged report that Lady nina’s selling to someone connected to Red and White

  81. kelsey says:

David Dein sold his 9072 shares (14.58%) in the club for £75 million … but did not find any breach of FA or Premier League rules.

    so there you are

  82. Rasputin says:

Good work kelsey, see what you can dig up.I only thought DD may link up with Kroenke because Irish told me that he tried to bring him in before he teamed up with Usamov, but also he was ‘let go’ from R & W Holdings and that may have been in acrimonious circumstances.

  83. kelsey says:

that was in august 2007 and he is 66 in september.

  84. rico says:

Evening everyone, ever tried digging and planting shrubs in your garden with four feather friends helping ?

If not, it goes like this, one scoop of soil out, feathers one’s kindly put it all back for you 😉 😉

So Kolo knew where he was going for the last six months then, guess that means AW asked him to stay on as we were short in the defence in January, now he has TV, Kolo gets his wish…

Good old AA, he is telling Arsene to buy, no doubt so is RvP and Cesc 😛

  85. rico says:

Interesting about Thomas, if he has a little knock already, he can’t be considered to be a definate for the full season, its a good job Traore has improved and looks good 🙂

  86. rico says:

All this stuff with the shares, I don’t really understand all that side of things, do you guys think Usmanov still may launch a takeover bid ?

  87. rico says:

Sun is shining and I guess you are all enjoying while it lasts 🙂

  88. kelsey says:

    hi rico,

rosicky is fine,he has said it on his own website and will play in the emirates cup,as will clichy.

but where is walcott, was in austria ?

the shares thing is quite complicated as we (the club0 are a private plc and therefore do not have to disclose everything.

reading between the lines I think DD wants back in for two reasons.firstly he is still passionate for the club and knows be it right or wrong we need to be taken over and at the same time remain as a top 4 club.

to me there is little or no finance available at the moment, for this to happen, and reading a number of other sites today many fans are really getting quite worried that if we don’t remain in the top 4 with this present squad, the gulf will widen and we won’t be so attractive to players anymore.

don’t get me wrong i am not for the sale but i think it is the only way forward.

the key is finance, a takeover with DD having some authority and letting AW do what he does best in what could amount to his last two seasons.

  89. rico says:

Hi kelsey – thats good news about Thomas, and I have no idea about Theo, I dont think he has been involved in any pre-season matches (not sure on that though)
Maybe he is in the ‘bulk up’ training with Diaby 😉

The takeover stuff – its so hard to judge what would be the best outcome, is Usmanov more wealthy as Stan?

But then I think I would be a little bit of a hypocrite as I have always slated the clubs who ‘buy’ success like Chelsea did, but on the other hand, if we don’t get a huge financial backer, like you said, we will just drift further away – unless of course the signings we so clearly need are captured during this window …

  90. kelsey says:

    rico,

usmanov is far far richer than kroenke.remember abramovich isn’t squeaky clean and his first choice was to buy the spurs, noy chelsea.

Best otcome for me would be DD back in the involvement of our club.

By the way Hagelaand plays for Fulham tonight,so that’s him out of the running.

  91. rico says:

Thats funny kelsey, Roman is not squeaky clean, and he wanted to buy Spurs 😉

Is Usmanov squeaky clean ? I know Roman has been investigated but they found nothing on him, not that that means diddly squit !

I can understand DD wanting to be back where his heart is, he should never have left – who was the author of removal kelsey, I have forgotten ?

Re the Hangelaand (spelling) after seeing what happened with Eboue last night, do you think him playing makes much diffence ? I am not so sure 😉

  92. rico says:

Ah, is it a Europe game tonight kelsey, or pre-season friendly ? But then does the UEFA cup games effect the CL, and qualifiers, do they count ?

So many questions kelsey, feel free to take a while to answer, sorry 😦

  93. avenell says:

    Hi I am back..

Rico.. if you play in the Europa cup you cannot play in any european competiton until after Christmas when you can play in the CL.. But not the europa Cup in the same season..

vice Versa if you play in the CL that’s it for the season but you can play Europa Cup after christmas…

Even then I think only 2 players per club are eligable..

I have just spent 3 1/2 hours in the computer shop and still no joy with 2 laptops.. 😦 My head feels like I have been shopping with er indoors at lakeside all day..

  94. London says:

DD’s fan club is gathering pace on this channel…..interesting.

  95. avenell says:

    I vote no DD..

  96. London says:

    Lakeside all day…..ooohhhh…not pleasant.

  97. JonJon says:

    no takeover…not a sugar daddy anyway…

    and no DD…

    evening aves and avettes…

good post ave mate..i love being the underdog…its the best way to win something….

  98. London says:

    Evening Jonjon

I was just on my way out, laters.

  99. peachesgooner says:

I definitely want DD back at the club and am putting together an amazing conspiracy theory – its very complicated so it might take a few more hours, bear with me 😉

  100. rico says:

Yo – Ave, not good about your computers 😦 How can you compare that with shopping with your loved one 😉

So is the Fulham match a European one ?

  101. rico says:

Evening JonJon, London and peaches – May I abstain from the DD debate – I don’t understand it all, and I am not convinced that R&W’s intentions are honourable…

London, you were in moderation earlier, not sure why …

  102. JonJon says:

its a europa league qualifier rico…

he cant play CL football until after xmas…

peahes… DD almost sold us down the river to get his own way..all this battle of the shares rubbish is entirely down to DD’s selfishness…if it wasnt for DD actions neither kreonke or von greenback would be here….

    catch you later london…

  103. rico says:

I have to go walk off my dinner, but won’t be too long..

  104. JonJon says:

    see ya rico….

    guess i called in at a bad time..or do i smell?? 😉

  105. Xabier says:

Solid post. Nice and level headed.

  106. kelsey says:

de rossi starts tonight, that’s another gone.

  107. JonJon says:

    evening xabier….

kelsey i never believed the de rossi thing anyay..

  108. rico says:

JonJon – I bet you you, but only sweetly 😉

Hi xabier – good to see another new face

  109. rico says:

I love all this stuff coming out from Arsene, does that not say he knows he has to, and WILL buy a player or two….

  110. rico says:

I’m all alone, I really am the donkey from Shrek, ‘and everything’ 😛

  111. rico says:

‘And I had my mouth open, and everything, huh’ 😉

  112. JonJon says:

    im here rico..

  113. rico says:

Dum De Dum, Do Be Do….., I am here but where are you 😛

  114. rico says:

Hey JJ, how is my little master chef 😛

  115. JonJon says:

    fan daby dosy thanks rico….

i like how alot of fans are going nuts cos wengers said he doesnt need to buy someone…

its just like when he said he was keeping this squad together…

  116. rico says:

JJ – its funny, i am taking London and your view, wait until the 31st August 😛

  117. JonJon says:

i reckon it will be before then rico…

  118. rico says:

    Sunday JJ, Sunday 😛

  119. JonJon says:

    hell yeah rico…

wenger will be leading everyone on a merry song and dance and then he’ll suprise us all at the weekend….

the buzz willbe electric..the excitement will be immence and we’ll go into the season stronger and better than ever…

  120. rico says:

JJ, that would be just so typical of him though wouldn’t it – the press cheese him off all season, what a way to say ‘Up Yours’ 🙂

  121. Rasputin says:

Evening all – another no news day / evening 😦

I don’t reckon there will be any surprise signings unveiled at the Emirates cup, but on seeing AW’s interview on ATV, I am more optimistic…… that is completely contrary to the reporting of the same interview where the mischievous press chose to interpret his words as saying we weren’t looking to sign anyone.

  122. JonJon says:

exactly rico…welli hope so anyway..i’ll be devastated if he doesnt buy anyone…

  123. rico says:

Hi Rasp, the press are tinkers ;)My optimism has a capital ‘O’ 🙂

  124. rico says:

    Don’t go there JJ 😉

  125. JonJon says:

    hey rasp… evening buddy…

so on a scale 1to10 how optimistic are you??? 10 being the highest…

  126. Rasputin says:

Hi JonJon & rico … lovely to see you both blogging 😛

Well I’m afraid I’m a bit below you and rico JonJon, but I see that Fulham are looking at Huth which means that they may consider letting Hangeland go. I am 6/10 that we’ll get Huntelaar and 5/10 that we’ll get Huntelaar and Hangeland.

  127. rico says:

I am done guys, early rise for me…

    Stay safe and sleep well

    Night night all 🙂

  128. rico says:

😳 – sorry Rasp, I want to stay up, but I am useless after 10pm 😦

  129. Rasputin says:

No worries rico… nite nite, sleep well 😉

  130. JonJon says:

i dunno if the hangelaands a goer now rasp cos he played for fulham tonight in europe…it makes him inelligable for CL… so i reckon its less than 5

theres gotta be someone decent coming in though cos why else did robin agree a new deal….

it wasnt for the money becuase he was offered more elsewhere…he said he wanted to see ambition…i dont think making 40mil and not spending it as ambition…

theres a reason he signed…and im hoping that reason is announced real soon… id say huntelaar was an 8..

    night rico…

  131. Rasputin says:

Oh bugger JonJon – I didn’t know that, you’re right. It would reduce his value to us … can’t he play after Christmas or something like that?

  132. JonJon says:

    thoughts on the paddy rumours???

  133. JonJon says:

yeah he qualifies after xmas cos it aint the same comp…but why would fulham play him and lower his value if they were selling him???

  134. Rasputin says:

True – maybe they don’t want him to go and are trying to dissuade him from putting in a transfer request? … I’m cluthing at straws now 🙂

  135. JonJon says:

you think paddys on his way back??

  136. Rasputin says:

It would be totally out of character for AW to bring back Paddy, but if he can sign tweetypie, he certainly should consider paddy as a good deal. I haven’t seen enough of him play recently, but it would be a shame to bring him back and find him to be a shadow of the player he was…

  137. JonJon says:

i dont think its on the cards…

vieira would be loaded if it was pay as you play…we’d have to play him every game!!!!! 😉

i really cant see it..unless its a coaching role too…

  138. Rasputin says:

No I agree, but rather he came to us than the spuds!

What are your thouhgts on the destination of Lady Nina’s shares … Irish posted details earlier

  139. avenell says:

Back again.. one of those days.. Just seen ‘arry on SSN sounds like he knows that Arsenal would be the no1 choice for Hunterlaar and Vieira if they were to leave their clubs.. thought he was going to cry..lol..

Also on Arsenal TV…. Arsenal v Man City on action replay .. how tactful..

  140. avenell says:

Acording to Steve Stanner on Talk Shite this morning.. Vieira has been so good in pre season Maureen is thinking of keeping him..

  141. London says:

    Peaches

May I suggest, if you can, that you make your DD comment a head line post: you will set this place on fire? I, of course, will refrain from the excitement as I am unaccustomed to controversy. Lol, Night night until tomorrow.

  142. avenell says:

Alonso hands in a transfer request.. Mascharanho (spelling) unhappy too.. top 4 for the dippers… haha

  143. JonJon says:

    hi london.bye london.. 😉

rasp..that report was originally by myles palmer….if i honest he talks alot of sense…but theres no in between with him so at the same time he talks alot of shit… so i dunno really..

    evening ave..

  144. Rasputin says:

    Hi ave,

As it stands at the moment, we’re a tad stronger than last season (I know you think considerably stronger), manu and pool have been weakened and the chavs are standing still. I think the other 3 will be signing players so if we get Huntelaar and maybe one more, we will definitely be in contention….

  145. avenell says:

Sounds like you have cheered up Rasp 🙂 .. I don’t see us as considerably stronger.. just about the same as 2 years ago.. when we had a good go at the title..

I think we have a good chance..

But I do have a sneaky feeling one or 2 more signings will be on the cards. They may not be the obvious targets though.

  146. Rasputin says:

I was never unhappy ave … just didn’t quite see the reason for such optimism and was exercising my right to put an opposing view. Obviously I only want what’s best for Arsenal and that includes keeping the best manager in the league. I am not anti Arsene … never have been

  147. avenell says:

Rasp. I have never considered you anti-Arsene, we all have a moan now and again.. I do..

If you didn’t want what was best for Arsenal you wouldn’t waste your time on Arsenal sites..

I think that’s the problem sometimes we care too much. We get involved, but we cannot do enough about it as our passion would like us too.

  148. JonJon says:

ive just had a browse around the blogosphere and ive come across a comment from a bloke who says he knows gilles sunu and gilles has told him matuidison his way…

including me…thats two people who have heard the same story from an arsenal player and theres an article tonight in the guardian saying the lad is close to a switch…

  149. avenell says:

Jonjon.. It’s only true if “Fat Bloke” down the pub says it’s true..

  150. avenell says:

I also forgot to say.. if you are reading Xabier.. Thanks!!

You are always welcome on here..

  151. Rasputin says:

    Very true ave 🙂

I don’t really know much about Matuidi – I wouldn’t imagine he would be bought as a player that would go straight into the side, but more one to see how he develops.

  152. JonJon says:

rasp..i have no doubts you are not anti arsenal..your just passionate…

ive found you to be alot like myself…you have your ups and downs…

only difference is you manage to stay abit calmer whereas i just go off into endless rants about everything and everyone i can think off… 😆

i call it A.I.M.D…. arsenal induced manic depression…

theres 5 stages and i reckon your at stage 2 at the minute and you never really go above stage 3

ave sometimes reaches satge 3 depending on what time he wakes up.. 😉

    london never goes above 2

im normally floating between 1-3…although i was at stage five when we lost to chelsea and the mancs in the semi… 😉

i wanted to go back to highbury and usmanov in and wenger sacked and the team sold and i was spending 500mil on a new team…. 😉

  153. avenell says:

I would like to see Wenger buy Matuidi, just to shut the Denilson fan club up.. At least it shows Arsene knew we were weak there then. Perhaps Patrick and Matuidi could do a jobshare.

I used to like Denilson, but the fan club are testing my patience now..lol

  154. JonJon says:

thats my take it on it ave…

he isnt exactly shit….hes ok as a backup…

but when your arguing with someone who reckons denilson was our player of our season last year and hes worth more than 30mil and hes better than alonso and hes highly regarded in brazil(even though hes uncapped) you find yourself putting him down….

its not a case of denilson is underatted…most fans who actually understand football know what hes capable of…its the fact hes sooooooo overatted that causes the arguements…

the lads not shit…he just aint all that yet..

  155. JonJon says:

id take paddy back…not as a first teamer though…

just to gell the dressing room…imagine paddy back…imagine what it would do to the players???

pay as you play…only has toplay a handfulof games…use him like we used to use grimandi…bring him on to close the game out…

scores 2-1 to us with 20mins left and we are on the back foot and the kids are wobbly….like many times last year…

so what do you do??? bring paddy on….rejuvinate the side…add steel and leadershipand experience and take the game back and close the 3 points…

  156. Rasputin says:

Denilson can’t change a game like Cesc or drive the play like PV used to. It comes back to the stats thing – they flatter denilson. I agree he’s ok, but only as back up IMO unless he can raise his game a level or two and become more constructive in his play.

  157. JonJon says:

and my space bars rubbered now…. 😦

    laptops ready for the bin..

  158. JonJon says:

    thats just it rasp…

denilsons just a player who can ‘do a job’…

hes not the type of player that can win you a game…hes not the type of player that can produce a moment of brilliance to change a game and he aint the type of player who can run a midfield on his jack…

hes just another number.. a decent squad player..nothing more…

  159. Rasputin says:

What’s the antidote for A.I.M.D. JonJon? – would an FA cup do it, or would it have to be the prem and the CL? 😛

  160. JonJon says:

after 4 seasons of disapointment mate id settle for the Fa Cup…

id love to see us lift the CL,but the bread and butter is the PL for me…

i want us to go for all three seriously….and that means the next time we reach a semi of the FA cup we go for it properly with our best team…we got that far…why tinker???

i could only compare it to a sexy lady taking you to bed…kissing you and undressing you and then telling you that you arent getting any cos its time of the month…

    arrrrgggghhhh

  161. peachesgooner says:

    Evening chaps

    Whats AIMD please

  162. avenell says:

I would like to see some good progress and when we come up against the “big boys” we can at least compete.. then there is always a chance.

I never felt that last year I felt we would never beat Chelsea and Man U in the big games.

  163. Rasputin says:

Hi peaches – see JonJon’s 11:08 for AIMD definition 😛

I agree ave. We were really exposed in the the CL semi 2nd leg against manure and the chavs in the FA cup ….. I hate to use their terminology, but it did look like men against boys 😦

  164. avenell says:

Exactly rasp, when we played Man U about 5 years or so ago, I always fely we had a 50/50 chance.. now I don’t..

  165. peachesgooner says:

Thanks rasp, I found it 🙂

  166. peachesgooner says:

Evening ave – how do you feel about me putting together a conspiracy theory post regarding the destination of Lady Ninas shares

  167. Rasputin says:

I’m bushed ladies and gents, thanks for the chat and ‘therapy’ 😛

    Sleep well all, night night…..

  168. JonJon says:

we looked lost at times last year…really out of sync…

i dont see the loss of either kolo or donut as weakening..but id see it as a lost chance if we dont spend that money and buy the players we lacked last year…

all i wanted this summer was for wenger to stop persisting with the same players and to remould the team….sell the deadwood and bring in the reinforcements….the deadwood are leaving…so far so good…

    hi peaches…

  169. JonJon says:

    night rasp…

  170. avenell says:

Peaches.. that’s up to you.. As London says it could make a good debate..

    Laters Rasp.. you too, Nite..

  171. peachesgooner says:

Once upon a time there was a football club in North London ………..

Nite nite guys, catch up tmoro 🙂

  172. rico says:

    Morning Roasters 😉

All quiet for news this morning 😦

Talking of new posts and stuff, hope I am not speaking out of turn here, and I know this doesn’t refer to me as I am not lucky enough to go to matches, but it is there any chance that one of the ‘fortunate’ ones would be up for doing a match report after the home games they go to, which can be put up the morning after the game??

    Just a thought 😉

  173. rico says:

Clichy crocked and we are after a keeper…

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/361307349?-19387

  174. rico says:

I wonder if Alonso could still be on the cards ? I know all the talk is about him joining Madrid, but he has now asked for a transfer, we now have some pennies….

Why did he not ask earlier for a transfer, could it be he waited for us to raise the cash? was he afraid to ask earlier in case the dippers sold him to a club he didnt want to go to??

Yes, unlikely, but football is a funny old game 😉

  175. kelsey says:

    Morning rico,

So many things I would like to get off my chest. So, in paricular oreder,it is becoming increasingly apparent that Wenger is being more tight lipped than before. It was obvious to me Clichy has a serious back problem as he missed the end of last season, all the friendlies so far,and now rico puts the newsnow article up.

As far as hageland is concerned, even though he played last night,i here that Fulham are looking to Hull for a replacement if we still sign him, which wouldn’t be the first time AW has signed a european cup tied player.

As far as I am aware London, peaches,Chaf and Rasputin attend matches, and a post on the 2 day competition(one post for both matches) is an excellent idea rico.

A post on the real finance of the club,as peaches has a theory would interest me,yet several of you don’t either want to get involved or don’t understand the actual position, not that we do either,so have a vote or let Avenell make the decision.

We have all noticed over the last few weeks that not all is well on here, and as most of the misunderstanding or conflict arises mainly because we are all built differently. Some are more defensive than other, some more sensitive and therefore read into a post the wrong way( me included) and to others it’s like water off a duck’s back, and others just want a relief from daily life and want to enjoy blogging about anything with cyber friends, but always avoid cnfrontation, which is perfectly understandable, but it has the effect of people backing off and hours go by without a comment, surely you can all see that.

Furthermore we all have other more important things in our life therefore the time we blog depends on a day to day basis.

For this site to be enjoyable for all, things have to change.Only one person can do that and that is Avenell,as it’s his name on the site.
Irish and I are the only two regular contributers who don’t have the facility to moderate, hold, edit, delete or change a post.I believe 6 posters can do that. For a sight so small, that is by far to high a percentage, and as an outsider i find it strange to follow a thread when posts that are there one minute are deleted the next.

AT least 10 times as many read and monitor this site than actually post, and it doesn’t give a good impression.

Agree, disagree but please don’t wind up people the wrong way,it has no benefit.

Please all of you read this through and think about it.We have too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Ave, we have spoken on many occasions but I am a little confused as to the direction you want this site to go,please give an honest answer,we have the season starting in 2 weeks and things need to be clearer for everyone,s sake. Thank you.

  176. rico says:

    Morning kelsey

Blogging is a funny old world, and I think I have said this before – writing, emailing, blogging, it all loses the speakers body language and comments are hard to ‘truly read’.

Re the post on the club’s finances, I think peaches and ave sorted that out last night kelsey, so I cant see any problem there, take a peep at peaches last comment, its clear she is off on a mission 😛 (Brave peaches I say) I have admitted I don’t know a great deal about the finances of the club, but please don’t assume I wouldn’t be interested or want to participate in a post that peaches would write, oppposite, I look forward to reading it, and contributing.

As for things not being right on here, have I missed something new or are you bring up the other nights incident again ?

Please don’t take this the wrong way kelsey, but my view in relation to the direction of this site is – we are all adults who love our club, can’t we all just be human and decent towards eachother….

  177. rico says:

    kelsey

Re the match reports, I feel a little bad as its suggesting work for someone other than me and I know we are all very busy in different ways. We others can help out on the live televised matches, but I never seem to see what is really happening on a link, it either freezes or crashes for me – well thats my excuse and I am sticking to it 😉

  178. rico says:

Sorry kelsey, another bit of your last I am trying to answer, Avenell’s name is at the top of the site, and I think he ultimately has the control of the naughty words, spam etc etc – but I think a while ago it was discussed and decided that the ‘ownership’ was shared out so technically its not Ave’s site – its ours…

Does that make sense, i am poop at explaining things in writing 😦

  179. kelsey says:

    rico,

i agree with you entirely, that’s why i went to the trouble with my long post There again everyone reads the same post differently.I am not persuing anything,I am just giving mt feelings as a contributer as to how the best way forward could not should be.

    Off to the dentist,yet again.

  180. rico says:

    Guys and Gals

Sorry if all my last few comments seem to be directed at kelsey, but they are only in MY attempt to answer some questions he has raised..

  181. kelsey says:

    that what I mean rico,
when you say !I am poop at explaining things in writing” I am the same, that’s why we appear to have little misunderstandings. 🙂

rico it is not shared,as i explained in my first post.

if you wrote a post e.g. which might be interrupted the wrong by someone else you have the facility to edit it,delete it or put it into moderation,I can’t do that, not that i want to.

Please again, don’t mis understand me,i am not saying you would do that, but 6 people can do that, theredore it isn’t really a shared out ownership in that rspect.

if I wasn’t concerned i wouldn’t bother to write all these posts.

  182. rico says:

    Kelsey

The site is shared by six, that is what was agreed a while back – and my belief is that that would mean that no one person would have to sit and monitor ‘behind the scenes’ stuff all day.

Re the deleted stuff, I have deleted a few words from comments over the last couple of days, that is only because the contents would just stir up trouble, and I personally don’t like to see that happen.

  183. rico says:

The Daily Mail report this 😛

Arsene Wenger is poised to break into the £40million he has received from Manchester City by tying up a deal for long-term target Blaise Matuidi.
And it looks increasingly likely the youngster will be mentored by Patrick Vieira, who could be on his way back to Arsenal.

  184. rico says:

Arsenal appear to have stepped up their interest in Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh after Bordeaux’s Presidet Jean-Louise Triaud affirmed that he had received a phone call asking after the striker from Arsene Wenger. The Gunners have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old since January, and although speculation has also hinted at interest from Spurs and Blackburn Rovers and firm a offer from Sunderland, they have remained quietly optimistic of getting their man.

Speaking to French publication L’Equipe, Triaud revealed:

“[Arsene] Wenger has in fact called me,”

“He said he had a list of attackers and Marouane was one.”

It was reported earlier in the week that manager Laurent Blanc was unwilling to let his prized asset leave for the sake of it and made clear that he would only sanction a transfer to a big club who could help Chamakh achieve his potential.

  185. rico says:

kelsey and I have obviously scared everyone off this sunny morning 😦

  186. rico says:

Isn’t Friday usually a signing day, feeling confident today anyone ???

    😛

  187. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Got no time to blog this morning.. I am taking yet another laptop down to the computer shop.. I may get to blog from there on it.. (I may be in moderation, look out for me).

Kelsey.. I would rather the blog talked about strimmers instead of Arsenal .. but I only have a 1/6th vote.. 🙂

  188. rico says:

Morning and good luck ave 😉

I am off to watch a tale about guinea pigs – now that is much better than Arsenal 😉

    Catch you all later

  189. peachesgooner says:

Morning all – Chief Conspiracy Theorist here

I have to be a mummy for a few hours so I’m gonna have to keep you waiting, sorry, catch up later 🙂

  190. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

You have all missed the saddest news of the day …. Bobby Robson has died. Yesterday several posters commented that they were in danger of falling out of love with the game because the money and the people are so reprehensible these days, Bobby Robson was a true gentleman of the sport and we are all the poorer for his passing.

  191. Rasputin says:

Back to Arsenal …. I can’t see why we would chose Chamakh over Huntelaar – except for the price 😦

Huntelaar is a proven goalscorer who offers a different dimension to our strikeforce. Chamakh is another clever athletic player who doesn’t convert enough of his chances into goals and is similar to other strikers we already have.

  192. Rasputin says:

    Talk to yourself Rasp 😛

  193. Irishgunner says:

RIP Bobby Robson – made Newcastle a decent club, no small task that.

  194. Rasputin says:

    Hi Irish,

Yes, he must have been very sad to see what has happened to them in the last few weeks if his life…

  195. Irishgunner says:

Morning Rasp – As you said he was one of the good ones. He had an awful battle with illness the last few years. He was advisor to the Rep.Ireland team before Trap came but had to give it up due to illness.

  196. rico says:

Afternoon everyone, I only just heard the sad news about Sir Bobby, I am stunned and deeply saddened, a wonderful man, a truly great manager, and the world has suffered a great loss…

May his family find strength, and may Bobby RIP…

  197. rico says:

Where is everyone – I may have to go and blog elsewhere to feed my football craving 😉

  198. rico says:

I have stolen this from another channel, and I hope if TAIG reads, he won’t be offended, but I think this is one of the funniest things I have read in a long while,

A song for the trip to Anfield

You put you right hook in
    Your right hook out,
    In Out, In out
    You knock the f****r out,
You pay the judge and jury
    So you’re not sent down
    Thats what its all about…

    Ohhhhhhhhhhh Stevie Gerrard,

  199. Irishgunner says:

😆 Rico – funny cos its true

  200. rico says:

Hi Irish, I have been all alone and having a flick around the other sites for a read 😛

Went to see G Force this morning, apart from the cinema being full of 5 year olds, great time, and a pretty good film

  201. Irishgunner says:

    Hiya Rico,

I’m surprised that film is good, the adverts for it makes it seem awful.

I cut down on the cinema going, €9 for a ticket and then a billion quid for some popcorn 😯

  202. rico says:

Its a typical WD film Irish, and the guinea pigs actually look like guinea pigs – thats probably why I like it. I think the ‘average’ adult may not enjoy it as much…
The cost is such a rip off everywhere and we don’t go much either, the last was Mamma Mia and before that was Shrek..

We cheated and took our own supermarket popcorn 😛

  203. rico says:

Fiorentina wont meet the price for Eboue then, do I need to post them a Fiver 😉

  204. Irishgunner says:

In one of the cinemas in Limerick they check people who act suspicious around the cinema to see if they have food, I fool you not.

I went to see Bruno but it was a disappointment after Borat.

Wouldn’t be the end of the world keeping Eboue, in case Sagna gets injured. No point in just giving him away.

  205. rico says:

As long as that is the only position he gets played in Irish, my fear is that he will pop his head up at…
    left midfield
    right midfield
    centre half
    full back
    centre forwrd

    😉 😉

  206. Irishgunner says:

Known our luck Arsene will go off for a holiday and leave Eboue in charge.

  207. rico says:

Off for a short while Irish, got to go and play with the chickens 😉

  208. Rasputin says:

A damning indictment of our chances from an Irish person I’m not so fond of 😕

“Cascarino: Arsenal line-up isn’t worthy of the arena

Tony Cascarino, a league veteran of over 600 top flight games for the likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa, Millwall and Marseille, believes the current Arsenal side is not good enough for the relatively new Emirates Stadium.

Writing in his regular column for the Times, the Republic of Ireland legend slammed the state of Arsenal’s current squad, suggesting they are not a patch on previous teams assembled by Wenger.

Cascarino told the Times: “Arsenal are a club in no-man’s-land unless Arsene Wenger makes some dramatic signings in this transfer window – and nothing so far has suggested that he will.”

“This is a strange and uncertain time for Arsenal.”

“It’s hard to be positive, which is bizarre for such a big club that is stable, has talented players and has known great success so recently.”

“When Arsenal moved to the Emirates Stadium it was a key moment in their plan to become the dominant London club. But where is the great team to match the great crowds?”

“The line-up isn’t worthy of the arena.”

“There’s a contrast between the theory and the reality because the transfer business isn’t in tune with the club’s status or ambitions.”

“There won’t be full houses at the Emirates in the years to come unless there’s a winning team on the pitch because fans who’ve been spoilt by the quality and success of Wenger’s teams won’t keep paying high ticket prices for an inferior product.”

“No matter what the manager says about this current squad having great ability, they’re not a patch on his title-winning sides and many of their performances last season were indifferent.”

“Anyway, it’s been so long without silverware that attractive football isn’t enough to placate supporters any more.”

“I disagree that Arsenal are an improving team.”

“Like England in past years, I don’t see a team of winners – I see a team that can be expected to reach the quarter-finals of tournaments each time but lacking the quality and mettle to do any better.”

“You’d have thought that the success of the Andriy Arshavin transfer would help Wenger realise the value of splashing out for stars in their prime, for the boost it provides to both team and fans.”

“Obviously not, to judge from his recent comments about not feeling in any hurry to buy again and insisting that the squad is strong enough to challenge.”

“It’d take the pressure off him – and place it on the board – if he was to admit that Arsenal just don’t have the finances to be competitive.”

“But he’s saying almost the opposite.”

  209. rico says:

Hi Rasp, do you know what – I read that earlier and it made me so angry, what an idiot that man is!!

  210. Rasputin says:

Hi rico … it kinda sums up where the dark side of you mind can go when you’re starved of football and you need reassurance as to how fabulous our players really are. Ave is right, either we are deluded – as most commentators would say something similar to the above, or they are all in for a shock. I do sincerely believe we are two quality players off of a prem winning side. Without those two, we will have to be lucky with injuries.

  211. rico says:

I see where you are coming from Rasp, and as you say, two ‘right’ players and we are really strong – and we still have the time to get them..

If Fergie had made that comment it would be easier to take, or another top class manager, but this article is a bit like listening to Andy Gray on Sky Sports, none of them like us, few of them, if any, have managed a premiership side in this financial climate but they all think they are experts…

    grrrrr 😉

  212. rico says:

Anyway Rasp, where have you been all day, Irish and I were all alone… and everything 😦

  213. Rasputin says:

Awwww … sorry! You’ve been to the pics and Irish has been busy … I thought I was all alone on here 😦

  214. rico says:

Just teasing Rasp – kelsey was around earlier but as I peeped around the other blogs, I think he has been busy telling jokes on another channel, some very good jokes I have to say 😛

  215. rico says:

Oh yes, I went to the pics and saw my favourite animals in a Walt Disney film, they were super heroes… It was funny, as we went to show our tickets and collect our 3D glasses, we were the only ones without children – I said to the usher, yep, we are here to watch it ourselves, no rude comments please – he just smiled 😛

  216. Rasputin says:

I don’t tend to go elsewhere much these days…Its been a bit embarrassing because I have been expounding a view on here and later on looked elsewhere and seen that I’ve said almost the same as someone else’s headline … I’m not a plagiarist … honest 🙂

  217. JonJon says:

    guten nacht mon amies….

    rico/rasp..

im not liking this idea of wenger enquiring about chamkaka for 12mil…

weve got a few more bob than that and for a bit more we could have a proven striker at domestic and international level and not another african who couldnt hit a cows bum with a banjo…

  218. avenell says:

I just got back in and heard the news of Sir Bobby on the news at 6..
That’s truly gutting, what a brave man he was..

He only had a Bobby Robson Day last week and 25,000 geordies turned up, 10,000 more than in the friendly against Leeds..

  219. Rasputin says:

Agreed JonJon, if we can pay £12m for Chammakakakakak… we can add a couple of mill and get the Hunter.

  220. JonJon says:

    im hoping its a decoy…

    i can imagine rvp’s contract meetings now…

AW; are you going to sign???

RVP;ive been offered more money elsewhere but i want to stay here as long as we show some ambition in the transfer window and we can win some trophies…

AW;i feel your pain brother, we are signing that superstar Chamkaka, you know that guy in france who everyones heard of and the likes of sunderland want to buy..

    RVP;great,thats settled,gimme that pen…

  221. Rasputin says:

I love Arsene … but I don’t trust him/the board when it comes to transfers based on the last few seasons… the story about Chamakh is probably just an invention, but if it were true, I’d lose all faith. We don’t need Chamakh or a player like Chamakh

  222. JonJon says:

    im gutted about robson…

he was the only england manager i actually liked in my time…

he was a true football man…he was the type of man football needs…the reason why football is such a passionate game…

we need more men like sir bobby back in this sport…its a sad sad day…

  223. London says:

There is one thing, above all, that would make my evening and that is that the same person who punched Bentley in a Restaurant did exactly the same to Cascarino, just walk right up and smash him on the nose. I am so pissed off with him whining about Arsenal. This time he is condemning the team he hasn’t even seen; we know this is the case because we, some of the most obsessed, haven’t even seen it yet. What a banned word.

  224. JonJon says:

    agreed rasp…

we dont need another striker who ‘works hard’ and ‘runs the channels’

we need a striker who can score…

12mil on him would be a unlogical signing…especailly when we have about 6 strikers at the club and the midfield needs the money more…

  225. JonJon says:

    london…

correct me if im wrong but was cascarino even that good a player????

would he in his prime have ever got into the previous arsenal sides he talks of…or for that matter the current one…

i think you can see where im going with this one…

a banned word he is indeed….

suits me all being the underdog….

but we should all lose faith because some geezer who wasnt good enough to become a manager says so…

    right???

  226. JonJon says:

is he a chav this cascarino bloke??? or a villain????

cos i dont remember the last time villa won something and i dont remember chelsea sweeping all before them given all the pennies theyve spent either…

hes on my list this season with ade and cashley…

  227. London says:

    Evening Jonjon & Rasp

May I offer a bit of hope? Last year, when Milan wanted to sign Ronaldinho they let it be known falsely that they were interested in Adebayor. As we all know they never had any intention of signing Greedy, the purpose was, of course, to try and drive down Ronaldinho’s outrageous wage demand.

This is a tactic we are all familiar with; I am hoping that the club are using it to sign Huntelaar.

P.S. I don’t think that Kalou is off the radar yet.

  228. JonJon says:

    hey london…

i dont think kalou could offer us any different to what we have either…hes fast but is he better than vela or walcott????

and id be annoyed if wenger sold africans only to replace them with africans with an ACN coming around the corner…

    it makes no sence…

  229. JonJon says:

im watching the arsenal/manc game at home last season…

sagnas a monster when hes flying…never shirks a tackle or a 50/50….and challenges you normally see players rolling round the floor from, that man just gets up and carries on…what a nut case….

sagna will crush cana next season….

lets put him in midfeild.. 😉

  230. Rasputin says:

    Evening London,

You are perceptive … I do feel the need for some ‘straws to clutch at’ … This closed season is particularly torturous because we know, (make that think), that we have some money in the coffers.

  231. London says:

I, like everyone else, would prefer Huntelaar but my next choice would be Kalou, he is a proven goal scorer in the PL and at 23 he could just about to become very good.

Either way we definitely need another striker, when RVP went down injured against Hanover and Bendtner had gone off, I suddenly thought, all worried, who is going to replace him? I had, of course, forgotten Eduardo but he is a player that comes on and gets a goal when the play has been compressed in the opponents half rather than someone who can lead the line.

The other thing that occurred to me is that we have a team as it stands who could win the league but I am not convinced that we have the squad; I like to think that Wenger feels the same and will make the necessary adjustments.

  232. JonJon says:

i dont agree that kalou is proven, london…

but i do agree with your last paragraph….thats the way i feel…

  233. London says:

I think that this year will be Vela’s proper introduction, I expect him to do well but I don’t want our season resting on him. As for Walcott, who knows? By the end of this season he could be regarded as a white elephant or a soon to be Arsenal legend. Out of the two my money is on Vela.

  234. JonJon says:

yup i agree with that one too london…

    vela wins hands down….

  235. Rasputin says:

Eduardo is the only No.9 we have. RVP and Bendtner both prefer to play deeper. We can’t rely on Dudu staying fit, so whoever we sign (if we sign) should be a No.9 type striker … back to Huntelaar again. On the positive side, Bendtner has looked really sharp in preseason and has shown that he can play vert effectively in an attacking midfield.

  236. JonJon says:

whos your bet on london for

    A…most goals..

    B..player of the season

  237. JonJon says:

    open question??

  238. London says:

    Rosicky and Rosicky….I’m kidding 😉

  239. kelsey says:

    Most goals darren bent

    player of the season; adebayor

Ooooops sorry london don’t agree. Nothing to do with class or potential but Wenger will not play vela much, for some reason which is not clear to me and furthermore upto the end of november he has to jet off to mexico a couple of times.

If Theo doesn’t improve other aspects of his game apart from speed,i don’t even see him staying.

  240. Rasputin says:

    Most goals Nik
Player of the season Cesc (maybe AA)

  241. kelsey says:

    oh most goals arsenal; arshavin

    player of the season senderos

  242. JonJon says:

    dudu(maybe huntelaar and AA(maybe cesc)…

  243. JonJon says:

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-why-i-sold-african-duo-to-man-city

so there you have it…i read that as wenger thought he had better in the team than who he sold…and it was his decision to sell…they just chose who they went to..

  244. kelsey says:

the question for me is wenger there to make a profit or win trophies, as he seems to be unable to do both successfully anymore.

  245. Rasputin says:

I didn’t know we could include players we haven’t bought yet….. JonJon is correct – most goals, def Huntelaar

  246. peachesgooner says:

How can Wenger toy with us like that – I hope he said those things or that reporter will be in BIG trouble 😉

  247. peachesgooner says:

    Hi rasp 🙂

  248. JonJon says:

it was my game rasp.. 🙂

rasp how would you feel if your favorite player returned home…that would lift your confidence surely…it might not be the same footballer…but its the same legend…i think it would be more an impact signing for the dressing room…

    hi peaches

    kelsey

the thing with that is that with the likes of citeh, chelsea, and manutd spending millions over the seasons gone by its hard for wenger to do both…

its a whole different ball game now…

he either spends the same amount and bankrupts the club and takes the fun away from being a gooner or he sticks to his guns and we go 4 years here and there without a trophy…

  249. Rasputin says:

Hi peaches – how does your garden grow? 😉

  250. peachesgooner says:

rasp – today a very nice man came and painted green stripes on the grass and I have to say it looks amazing – so greeeeeeeeen 😉 Hows yours?

  251. peachesgooner says:

What do you think rasp about Vieira…….wow that

  252. peachesgooner says:

……wow that would be amazing – maybe Arsene is planning for them to retire together……so romantic 😀

  253. peachesgooner says:

How much was Benitez trying to flog Alonso for last year…..£16m……and now he’s holding out for £30m!!!!!!!!!!!!

  254. avenell says:

I just saw the Wenger interview on SSN.. he definitely said he was seriously considering Vieira coming back..

  255. avenell says:

Didn’t Alonso sign a new contract? That would increase his price.. plus the inflated meerkat caused by Real and Man City..

  256. Rasputin says:

I hoped that no-one would ask me that questin … jonJon and peaches 😦

PV is my favourite Arsenal player. He will never be as good as he was before he left (at least a season too early IMO). How would you feel if your favourite player came back in the autumn of his career? If Vieira is coming to help with his experience and with coaching and to make an appearance occasionally … great. But is he sharp enough and fast enough for the premiership any more? … I’m not sure

  257. rico says:

Hi all – remember a few weeks ago, when we were talking about Nik being the highest goal scorer this coming season, I suggested it would be Chamakh…..

This one may just bite me on the butt 😉

  258. peachesgooner says:

rasp – just to see him in our shirt standing in the tunnel……

  259. avenell says:

He is the French captain though isn’t he? You have to be quite good to keep the other french midfielders out of the team.. and mouriniho reckons he has been superb in pre season..

  260. JonJon says:

i watched the interview with wenger rasp and he made it clear that a player like vieira would provide experience and more of a role to play in the dressing room….

like i said yesterday..their were times last year where we couldnt hold onto leads….

imagine if we were 1 nil up with 10mins to go and the players started to look tired and out of ideas and the fans were lacking voice becuase of the nerves and were under the kosh and wenger brought vieira on…..

it would lift everyone…the fans would find voice the players would find energy and vieira could lead and show the team how to close out the game…something we lack and have lacked since paddy left..

he wouldnt be a first teamer…

  261. peachesgooner says:

It would be unreasonable to expect him to be the player he was hes four years older – but if hes going to be helping on the coaching side and playing occasionally I’d love to have him back…….

  262. Rasputin says:

Why isn’t Maureen keeping him then?

Of course I’d like to see him standing in the tunnel. I’d love to see him scythe Ade’s legs from under him. I’d love to see him trying to suppress a giggle at interviews while the other players wind him up. I just don’t want my memory of him to become jaded…..

  263. rico says:

Saying that, if Chamakh does score 30+ – we would all be happy in the end 😉

Did you all see the Stevie Me Me Me song earlier 😛

I don’t mind Paddy coming back, he will be good for Diaby, Song, the new boy and may even instill some winning mentality – I am sure he will only play a bit part and use this as a step towards coaching…

  264. JonJon says:

    hi rico…

chamkaka cant finish his dinner…never mind be top scorer for a team like arsenal..

hes scored something like 15 goals for 50 apps for morroco and 50 goals in over 200 games for bordeux…

    hes crap..

  265. avenell says:

Maureen dumped Vieira out of the team last year and I think Vieira felt like he wasn’t wanted, so he then went in search of a club who would give him regular football, Lyon, PSG etc in World Cup year, so he has been training hard and impressed The special knob…

  266. peachesgooner says:

Maybe he wants to come back to the premiership……

Hes not going to spurs anyway….he can drop that thought……. no way no how……JonJon will help me kidnap him and he can play on your Hertfordshire hillside………

  267. rico says:

    😛 JonJon

Bless old Reyes – maybe he wants to come back too 😉

Jose Antonio Reyes believes Arsenal are a force to be reckoned with this season.

The Spanish international is back in North London for this weekend’s Emirates Cup in the colours of Atletico Madrid. Reyes left Arsenal in the summer of 2007 but he has never played at Emirates Stadium – he joined Real Madrid on a season-long loan shortly after the ground opened three years ago.

Reyes should fill that hole in his CV when Atletico face Arsenal on Saturday afternoon and the 25-year-old is relishing the challenge. Some say Arsenal will be off the pace this season but, as far as Reyes is concerned, Arsène Wenger’s team is on the up.

“I don’t think they are weaker,” he said.

“Arsenal are one of the strongest teams in the Champions League. We have to admit they lost a couple of important players but they have an extraordinary young team and they are going to develop.

“They have a great team here in England and are one of the strongest teams in Europe. In fact I think Arsenal are getting stronger. Players like Cesc Fabregas are doing incredibly well. Ever since he made his debut with Arsenal you could see that he had a lot of quality.”

It’s tempting to view Reyes’ Arsenal career as a case of what might have been. He arrived to a wave of expectancy in January 2004 and supplemented the ‘Invincibles’ side which won the title and went 49 League games without defeat. But despite clocking up 110 appearances, Reyes never settled.

His career has dipped since then – Reyes was shipped out on loan to Benfica last season – but the Spaniard has no regrets over his decision to leave Arsenal.

“Any player would like to play for Arsenal, any player,” said Reyes. “But I don’t have any regrets. I took my decision because obviously I thought it would be better for my career. I had a good time here and won some trophies with the team. I think they deserve all the praise they get.

“Of course I am happy, I’ve said it before and I am very hopeful to play this season with my team. My success will depend on how much effort I put in.”

    [Friday, July 31, 2009]

  268. rico says:

Seems you have all gone, maybe it was something I said 😉

Anyway, I may aswell say nighty night a tad early, catch you all tomorrow

    Stay safe

  269. peachesgooner says:

Nite rico, sorry I’m putting pen to paper, catch you tmoro 🙂

  270. London says:

I’ve got tears in my eyes after reading that. I’ve gone from, it could never happen, to………what if….the last time he kicked the ball for us we won the FA cup…….what if…… I’ve got goose bumps all over my body. He comes from Senagal he plays…….just to sing it one more time….what if…….what if it were true.

  271. JonJon says:

    id be a happy gooner…

  272. Rasputin says:

One thing is for sure, signing Vieira would be very popular with the fans and some of us could wear our old shirts with his name on with pride again. The first Arsenal shirt my daughter owned had his name on it……

  273. peachesgooner says:

Hi rasp – where you been?

  274. Rasputin says:

I’ve been to the local windybum takeaway……..

  275. peachesgooner says:

Oooh lovely – have you got time to look in drafts for me

  276. Rasputin says:

    Sure – no probs …….

  277. London says:

Have you noticed the change in Arsenal.com? They seem to be trying to be trendy or something like that. With interviews from Rayes and allowing speculation about Vieira returning. There is something not quite right about it. It’s a bit like finding out your grandma has taken to dressing in fashionable clothes from Top Shop or that she smokes spliff. It just doesn’t quite sit right, you want her to return to how she was before, you what Arsenal.com to return to being the slowest source of news but some how when you read it you knew you were reading the truth.

  278. Rasputin says:

Good point London – they seem to be uncharacteristically revealing …. is it a Gazidis generated smokescreen as I’ve heard you call it before? It is genuinely comforting to hear ex players who thought they were going to ‘bigger’ clubs expressing their regret for that poor decision.

  279. peachesgooner says:

Ave – I’ve finished my conspiracy theory post, it can wait till next week if you’ve got a footie one for tomoro as its Emirates cup

  280. Rasputin says:

Is your theory that David Dein knew about Pearl Harbour but didn’t tell the yanks because he had landed on the moon first and shot Kennedy while he was up there?

  281. peachesgooner says:

    Yes Rasputin

  282. avenell says:

Peaches.. I haven’t got anything I have been a bit busy, No one else has contacted me to say they have one.. so if the widget is empty, it’s all yours..

You could do another monday on your emirates cup experience too. 😉

  283. peachesgooner says:

Oh don’t make me write about it – I won’t be able to just soak it up and enjoy it……

Have a look at it, it might be better going up on a slow day, its in there now

  284. Rasputin says:

Put it up peaches … what’s the worst that can happen? … we’ll all tear it apart … just an ormal day on AR :0 😛 😉

  285. avenell says:

It’s up to you Peaches.. we haven’t had a post for a couple of days.. I saw it was there, I trust it is good, with some good points..

  286. peachesgooner says:

    oooh, i’ll check……

  287. peachesgooner says:

    clever you……you’re right …. 😉

  288. avenell says:

Don’t ruin your day at the Emirates.. It does change your outlook on a game if you are watching with a post in mind..

    Are you going Rasp?

  289. JonJon says:

je suis un pomme de terre….

are we all excited about the weekend???

  290. avenell says:

Peaches.. I am by no means perfect. but Sometimes I need someone to look over mine. It is difficult to see things because you are looking at it from a different angle.

  291. Rasputin says:

JonJon – you shouldn’t admit to being a spud … even in french!

yes, I’m going ave and don’t mind typing up some thoughts, but it won’t be a blow by blow breakdown of the action as I hope to be slightly pissed… hic!

  292. avenell says:

Nice one Rasp.. Saturday, Sunday or both?.. I suppose it’s work on a Sunday 😦

Like a pillock, I booked in a car at 5 on Sunday, I need to change it.. duh

  293. Rasputin says:
