Is the Man City circus good for Arsenal??

For me the answer is quite simply…yes!!

For years Arsenal have been the media’s main interest in English football..Constantly harassing us, making false allegations and to put it bluntly, talking absolute shit about us. No other football team in England has been under the media microscope more than Arsenal and in recent years, due to the lack of trophies and the apparent lack of funds, the situation has become worse, but now they have a new play thing…Man Shitty…

The EPL now has a new superpower, albeit due to financial backing, but nonetheless still a superpower…They’ve been spending their money like it was endless and talking themselves up as the next big thing…The papers have had a field day with whats going on at Eastlands and I see this as a good thing…The more they talk about them, the less they’ll talk about us…and it’s already started happening…

The city of Manchester have been a one team city for as long as I can remember. Citeh have always lived in the shadows of the red side but now are seen to be the poor relatives that have hit the winning numbers on the lottery…and they are going to rub Fergies nose in it…they already have by signing Tevez and putting his face up on a blue billboard saying welcome to Manchester…HAHA..

Lets not forget Chelsea either…Citeh have spent the last few weeks telling everyone who will listen to them that they are on the verge of signing Terry..Chelsea must of been seething. For years now Chelsea have made their name on the fact they have all the money in the world, well now they dont…So i expect the rivalry there to be highlighted the media too…Lampard was already quoted in a paper at the weekend, having a pop at Citeh, saying that money doesn’t buy success???? Errr, hello, Fwank…Are you thick or what?? Where were your team before Roman came along??

The war of words has begun and I expect it to go on all season. Both Chelsea and Man UTD have a new rival…with the papers loving it and feeding of it and leaving us alone in the process.

Citehs over elaborate spending on rubbish players that can only be described, for use of a better word, as mercenaries, has also put extra pressure on them….there’s no way that any team can spend the amount that they have spent and then say they don’t expect to win anything. What tripe. Their own fans may fall for it but the media wont..The media will be sniffing around Citeh all season, waiting for the 1st loss or the 1st goalless draw before they start putting the boot in.. I reckon when it comes to January, Citeh will be linked to every big name player and every big name manager..

All in all, they are going to give the red tops something to write about all season, leaving us to step back into the shadows. The chance would be a fine thing. I’m actually looking forward to buying newspapers again over the course of next season, turning it straight over to the back page and reading about Adebayors offside and missed sitters count in a 1-0 defeat to Stoke or Hull..

Another bonus that Citeh will bring to us is the fact they are prepared to be ripped off just to get the player they want..we sold them a right donut in Adebayor, all for the measly price of £25mil…are they stupid?? HAHA..and now with the great JT staying at Chelsea they are in for our beloved Kolo for £15mil.. £15mil???? I’d rip their hand off for that…£40mil for two players, both past their peaks and both to disappear for a few weeks in the middle of the season can only be compared to taking candy from a baby.

Maybe we can throw Eboue in the deal too..?? Although it looks like Fiorentina have won that race..

The bookies have already wrote us off..we are favorites do drop out of the top 4 this season to be replaced by the one and only Citeh..and with the new rivalry its created with the other top teams, the pressure is well and truly off us next season..

Arsenal will sneak in under the radar..and while the other teams are arguing amongst themselves we will pick up the points and be top of the table by the time anyone, even the media , has noticed…

Have a good day we could see those developments in the transfer market…

“Hes Dutch, he’s the dogs, he’s from the land of clogs, Huntelaar, Huntelaar”

    Morning all

Super post JonJon – let them all argue, we sneak and get Huntelaar and a midfielder, while the others argue we romp home with the silverware –

    Happy days ahead, eh 😛

Off back to bed, be back later

  2. Cartman says:

Good post Jonjon, but i dont agree with “the pressure is well and truly off us next season..” There still is pressure on us either for maintaining our top 4 status or winning silverware! I do agree tho, that citeh will be the new media attraction, and hopefully it wud leave us without the constant media criticism!

btw, these posts help me improve my english! 😉

Another positive post from a clever angle on a fascinating subject.

I think one of the reasons we are collectively being……well…..positive on City, is because of the effect they are having on United: you can almost feel them squirming from here…’s great, suffer you banned words.

I agree that the press will not let them off the hook if they start losing but it is obviously the right thing to say that they do not expect to win any thing this season…I don’t. This is their equivalent of Chelsea’s “Varon” season when they wasted a whole load of money on over inflated players like the Argentinean Sebastian Varon. But, next season I think they will seriously challenge. We are laughing off this idea of Adebayor and Kolo going there but the offer to double a player’s wages is going to gather momentum to the point where they will start to truly shock us with their signings.

  5. Rasputin says:

    Morning roadsters,

Good post JonJon, I agree with Cartman, despite the focus on citeh, we are under immense pressure. If we don’t win anything this season, or don’t end up in the CL next, then patience will run out. Our ‘brand’ is losing its appeal, and sponsors will look at other clubs to invest in.

At the moment, luck will play a huge part in the outcome of the season. The stronger the squad, the less you rely on luck. We predictably fell away at the end of the season before last because the squad wasn’t strong enough in the same way Villa did last season.

  6. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

Nice post, your love for Adebayor JonJon is so obvious. 😉

The main difference between city and Chelsea is that the basis of a good side was already at Chelsea before Abramovich took over.

Now that Terry has carefully decided the pros and cons of staying with Chelsea,I suspect the pursuit for kolo will heighten.realistically I don’t see City being a threat to the top 4 yet,but I am sure their spending is not over and has been said many times before,a collection of highly priced footballers is no gaurantee of success.

My hunch is that Huntelaar will sign for us.

Nice to Vela come on last night as a second half sub,and yet again he scored a glorious chip. How long can AW keep him out of the team.

The reason I think we will buy Huntelaar, are that he obviously plays well with Robin and we can’t rely on Eduardo, rosicky and of couse nasri is out,to a challenging start to the season.

That doesn’t answer our defensive issues, but maybe AW will tinker with the current players to bolster the midfield.

  7. London says:

    Morning Rasp

Do we really have an alternative to the way we go about things at the moment?

  8. kelsey says:

if you feel a little negative, which is understandable, and you believe that we have to sell one big name before we buy, regardless of CL qualification,we are running out of players who would justify a big transfer fee,and we all know who the one is that would demand a huge figure.

  9. Ole Gunner says:

I guess you think we should sell Kolo to them as well.

  10. London says:

    Morning kelsey

I certainly agree with your hunch about Huntelaar.

I am always confused when people use the fact that Abramovich inherited an already good side as some reason for City to not achieve their goals. It seems to me that it will just simply take City a year longer to win the league than Chelsea did.

  11. Rasputin says:

    Morning London, kelsey….

We’re a business. We need to invest sensibly in a couple of players and that will pay dividends. Without that, we will be relegated in the eyes of the football world to the ‘poor man’s barca’ – good to watch at times but not a serious threat to the big boys.

We do not need to spend £25/30 million on superstar players, but we do need to be ruthless and decisive and target the players we need. We do not have a world class keeper. We have an average prem keeper. We need a strong defence and more importantly a strong spine with strong leadership on the pitch.

  12. Rasputin says:

Going on from my previous … we do not need to buy superstar players because we have AW and he adds £10+ value to every player he buys…. by wanting them in the first instance and by developing them once they are at Arsenal. Without Wenger at the helm, we would really be sliding down the league.

  13. kelsey says:

The rules of boring boring Avenell, are not being adhered to,and it’s your site Ave,so I would suggest you alter it,and also add a brief paragraph to all new posters, that can be seen in the widget column.

  14. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

  15. London says:

    Morning Rasp

Not much to disagree with there. The lack of leadership was a common stick used by they press to beat us with last season. Since then we have added the Captain of Russia to the side, the Captain of the Czech Republic has returned and we have bought the Captain of Ajax who will almost certainly go on to become the Captain of Holland. That is my idea of trying to put things right.

As for the idea that we can identify two players with a collective value of 30 mil and simply go out and buy them seems so out of date it’s positively antiquated. Apart from 30 mil being nothing, as soon as we identify a player the selling club will simply stall in the hope that another club will come in with a better offer. This is not meant to mean that I wouldn’t like to see at least two more additions, I would and still expect that to happen but the way we have to do business has changed and waiting until the big dogs have finished eating or words to that effect as you colourfully put it yesterday is the name of the game.

    Morning Peaches

  16. kelsey says:

please read this it appears DD is still linked with usmanov.

  17. rico says:

    Morning again all…

Kelsey – who is breaking the rules ??

  18. peachesgooner says:

    Morning rico

When we let new people on they often go straight back into moderation for mentioning other blogs or using swear words that aren’t welcome on the site. Cartman was a recent example of this so I think its right that we let new bloggers know as soon as they come on rather than have to keep digging them out of moderation.

    What d’ya think?

  19. Rasputin says:

Buying players with any ‘collective value’ relative to the budget of a club is not antiquated, antediluvian or even a point for debate – its what all clubs do … buy the best players they can afford when they need them….that’s what we have to do to compete. It’s not about the team, its about the squad.

  20. rico says:

    Hi peaches

I agree as I don’t think bloggers read the rules when they first go on to any site – silly me just looked at the comments this morning rather than go behind the scenes.. 😳

JonJon’s comment on the pressure being off us, I read that as meaning some thing like all the eyes will be off of us and the focus will be on the Manchester battle, the Citeh pressure to produce results – tha money battle beteen Chelsea and Citeh – where as the dippers and us will go about our game as usual – we will have to fight for everything while the dippers will continue to get all the luck 😉

  21. London says:

I was not trying to say that collective buying of players is, as far as Arsenal goes, antiquated. I was trying to say that the idea of identifying a player and putting in an offer and expecting to buy him then and there is gone for the forseeable future.

  22. Rasputin says:

I emailed our esteemed overlord a few weeks ago (no reply 😦 ) and made the suggestion that we greet all newcomers to the site and ask them to have a quick look at Boring boring Avenell to understand our ‘rules of engagement.

  23. Rasputin says:

OK London – I don’t think I suggested that was the case though. What I am saying is that we may have (probably have) missed out on players that could have made a huge difference to our fortunes (Alonso) for the sake of a couple of million. If we are able to take a gamble on a player (Bischoff) we should also be prepared to take a gamble on a couple of million to get a player we need.

  24. rico says:

That is Arsene’s way – he will always try to offer and then pay the minimum for any player – and I think that is why he waits until near the end of any transfer window to get an ‘extra’ player

  25. peachesgooner says:

rasp – i’m emailing you about boring boring ave…..

  26. peachesgooner says:

….not ave the man you understand 😉

  27. rico says:

Rasp – how rude of him, I think it’s a good idea, are the comments in moderation the same as the comments in the spam – ( i am not good with the technical stuff)

  28. peachesgooner says:

Spam is generally rubbish – some of our comments get swept up by other sites abd they reply with a comment that goes straight into spam.

Pending is a new blogger commenting for the first time.

Is there stuff in there, gonna have a look myself…..exciting 🙂

  29. rico says:

Thanks peaches, I think ave did explain it all to me, but I suspect I wasn’t listening 😉

  30. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters…

Peaches.. Sounds like you are getting this rules thing in the earhole again..

I don’t see it as a big deal.. I would rather we spent more time on the writing of new posts than squabbling over little details.

  31. rico says:

    Morning ave

  32. peachesgooner says:

Do you want to deal with it yourself then…..stubborn stubborn avenell 😉

  33. rico says:

Friendly match tonight then 6pm, one on Wednesday and then the boys come home for the start televised footie… And that means, winter will soon be upon us 😦

  34. London says:

    Morning Rico

I agree with your 11:05 but what I would add is the point I have been trying to get across for that last two days and that is that this policy has been forced on Wenger and not something he has chosen. Gone are the days when he could identify Henry and just buy him; if Wenger put in an offer for him now Juve would drag the deal out until the end of the window in the hope that someone would come in and double our bid. This tactic works to a point but backfires, of course, if nobody comes in because we know we are the only bidder and then we negotiate hard, this is exactly what happened with Arshavin…..the result of this is that Wenger wrongly gets accused of always looking to buy someone on the cheap.

  35. peachesgooner says:

London – why does it only apply to us though……is it the case that our targets will be wanted by so many other teams or solely the greed of the selling club that makes this situation…….am i being really thick here……..

  36. Rasputin says:

London, are you seriously suggesting that clubs in the past wouldn’t try to get the highest price they could for a player?

The difference now is that we have slipped down the league of desirable clubs for players to go to .. mainly because we can’t compete on wages (not Wenger’s fault) and partly because we don’t look like a club that is going to compete for major honours. Most pundits think we are going backwards.

  37. peachesgooner says:

If Real Madrid want to sell Huntelaar and we want to buy him and he wants to come to us then whats the point of holding out for a higher bid to come in from somewhere else?????

  38. rico says:

I think he is just a wise old man with a bit of financial knowledge

I wouldn’t go to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant and pay for a three course meal costing £150.00 IF I knew I could eat pretty much the same meal in another restaurant that was of very very similar quality for half the price – I just wouldn’t do it..

The price of footballers is no different imho –

Arsene has standards and he won’t be ripped off, which is why I think he waits towards the end of a transfer season to capture his player – the club who is selling knows that its now or never and they can’t afford to wait until the next window so he gets his man, and not at an over inflated price.

The down side for us fans is that we see clubs like citeh and chelsea just throw their money around, and we all want our club to buy big player aswell, but we havent got the finances. (not that i know much about our finances)

I still think he will spend the 25M, and the main reason is Arsene is a respected man, he won’t want dirty money in his pocket 😉

  39. peachesgooner says:

We can’t win if thats the case – no-one wants to sign for us and the selling club wants to push the price up so we decide not to buy the player……the markets gone mad…….how come the spuds get to buy who they want then……………..

  40. rico says:

Look at the Barry situation in January – Villa priced him at 18M, and rejected a 15M offer from the dippers…

This summer they sell him to Citeh for 12M – Villa were holding out for an over estimated price for Barry, and then they ended up 3M short of what they could have got – now thats greed and stupidity

  41. rico says:

Ade is also a perfect example – is he worth 25M ???

So, when a greedy money rich club comes in with that kind of offer, you just can’t say no, but if Inter Milan or Sunderland wanted him, we would have struggled to get 15M for him – imho 😉

  42. rico says:

I disagree that players don’t want to come to Arsenal, we are a club with prestige and history – the ‘real’ footballers in this world want to play for us, not the ones who want money, money, money…. 😉

Robin, Cesc, Clichy, Bac and even Theo to an extent, they would all have gone by now, RM, Barca, The Milan’s – any one of those clubs would love any of them

  43. kelsey says:

    Morning ave,

I don’t agree with you.get back to cutting the grass. 😉 No one reads the rules,so it should be on the front page of every post in the side column.Surely we have all discussed privately and publically not to offend other authors or sites. So to me and others it is important. Why should we be like other sites, where anything goes.

With regards to posts, they will kick in naturally once the season stars or even the Emirates cup.

both our games are on sky in the Emirates cup, however only 2 live games until the end of October.Man U away and Blackburn at home(if I read it right)

  44. London says:

Were we a club that was going to compete for major honours when Henry signed? No. We were in a higher financial bracket and could put in a bid fairly safe in the knowledge that nobody else would come in and embarrass us by stealing a player from under our noses.
Since then many clubs have been bought by backers with greater resources to waste on transfers which has pushed us down the pecking order and that is the reason why we have had to change the way we do business.

    Henry = Old way…..Arshavin = New way.

  45. rico says:

Huntelaar’s Way, thats going to be the best..

Sounds like a television programme from the 70’s 😛

  46. avenell says:

Where have the rules been broken?

We like to make people welcome on here .. Not hello, go and read the rules..

  47. London says:

That’s the one Rico….I would now stick my neck out and say the deal is done.

  48. rico says:

Did you read the Robin comment aswell London – something is going on I can feel it – I so hope it’s Huntelaar + one midfielder, yes I am greedy 😛

  49. kelsey says:

peaches has already explained to you.The case of Cartmen, not intentional on his account, surely you can see that.

  50. avenell says:

Cartman never slagged another site, he never slagged another sites owner, he never slagged a fellow Roadster off..

He just mentioned another site and got caught up in our safety net.. so I don’t see the problem.

I feel the blog is running fine.
Has any other roadster got any problems?

  51. London says:

  52. London says:

    That Bendner story is tosh.

  53. Rasputin says:

Yes, of course we were a club that was going to compete for major honours when Henry signed… history proved it!!!! We had just won the FA cup and we went on to do the double = major honours in my book.

Avenell …. everything is fine as long as everyone plays by (and is expected to play by!!!) the same rules

  54. rico says:

    ave – not especially

London, I know, just goes to show what poop some write, and ave – nik is fibbing, or course he knows about the rumours 😉 😉

  55. Rasputin says:

Hey rico … which midfielder are you wishing for to accompany Huntelaar to THOF?

  56. rico says:

Rasp – and we will again, we are so very close, Huntelaar and a midfielder will see us win a few things 😛

  57. avenell says:

    Afternoon Rasp..

We have been over this and we have sorted it all out..
I know we are all bored and frustrated by the lack of Arsenal..

I do take some offence to the fact I have been called stubbern and rude on here already today.. Albeit toungue in cheek.
The site is running well why are we causing our own problems where there isn’t any?..

  58. Rasputin says:

haha rico – we’ve done it gain and dovetailed each other’s comments. I am somewhat confused about the midfielder thing … it appears that we have only seriously looked at Matuidi…

  59. rico says:

    PV – 1996
    EP – 1997
    FL – 1998
    TH – 1999
    RP – 2000

Its funny really – those players above were signed year after year – why is it that in my mind I feel they were all signed together – and I wonder which ‘chance’ players were signed in the same years

  60. Rasputin says:

    Afternoon ave,

I didn’t call you any names – but name calling ‘tongue in cheek’ was rife on here last night and no offence was taken. I don’t want to go over it as I assume you actually know what the perceived problem was and don’t consider it to be a problem – nothing to do with me. You can run your site in the way you see fit. You asked a question and got the responses you wanted…end of as far as I’m concerned.

  61. rico says:

Ave – that was me calling you rude, and indeed it was an off the cuff, tongue in cheek humour comment, and in no way was it meant to offend – if it did, then i am sorry 😦

But Rasp, that is Arsene again, we know he wont make it known who he is after – Matuidi could very well be a smoke screen, but I wont be too dissapointed if it is him..

  62. avenell says:

There was name calling on here last night.. whilst I was on the phone to the person I was calling names to.. that was totally different to this morning, after you said I never replied to an email.

You know I have given you my phone no and welcomed any discussion about Avenell Road, which you have never taken up, therefor we have to go through a third party which is unfair on her..
Yes it was discussed last night, phone her and find out the outcome.
I have also been through this “my site” crap a hundred times there are 6 people running the site so if the majority want changes I am happy to go along with that.

  63. rico says:

As for this rules stuff, i would just leave a message in the blog to the offensive blogger telling them to see and abide by the rules and then onwards and upwards…

Actually, after this morning best I go and read them 😉

  64. Rasputin says:

Timeout ave ….. I’ll just bugger off if you’re going to get arsey

  65. rico says:

Why has all this started up, who brought up the subject of the rules etc, and why ??

And who is it that has supposedly breached them – other than a comment from cartman which was only spammed because of a certain word i havent seen any problem

  66. rico says:

Bloody Hell – we are just about to kick our season off, and probably it will be the most interesting season we have had for a while and could very well be the one when we start to win trophies – and this happens… Its so sad !!

  67. Rasputin says:

Don’t get upset rico, nothing to worry about…football is a great healer 😉

  68. rico says:

    Rasp – I do get upset 😦

Are you able to answer my 1.49 comment please Rasp? Why has all this come up, as I don’t understand 😦

  69. Rasputin says:

rico … I’ve somehow been drawn into this and it is nothing to do with me. I only mentioned the email as a way of saying that we’d been over this before. I didn’t expect anyone to take offense and I would never consider any of your comments to be offensive.

I think everyone is a bit wound up by the lack of football and the ever growing tension as the end to the transfer window nears.

You are the shining light on here …. go on…. give us some smilies.. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Deep down we just want everyone to be content and as you say Cartmen didn’t actually sin,he didn’t know the banned words,so I and and peaches and rasputin suggsted that we put a little phrase at the bottom of each post so newcomers understand.

If six people are running this site then there are bound to be disagreements or they are not in zink together. Those 6 have to work it out themselves.

  79. Irishgunner says:

    Afternoon all,

London I found the post you left me the other day about Hong Kong, thanks so much for the info 🙂

So it looks like Kolo is off. Love the bloke but from a footballing perspective I think its a good move.

Also, Charlie Nicholas writes a weekly column in Ireland and he heard AW is after two strikers.

  80. rico says:

London – you old buffer 😉

  81. rico says:

Hey Irish – me old chicken keeping buddy, how are you 😛

Good old Champagne Chalie, hope he is right 😛

15M is a lot for Kolo Irish, I will miss him though if he goes 😦

  82. Irishgunner says:

Hi Rico – the chickens were been bold today, they have a massive field to wonder around and still think it a good idea to come up around the yard where the cars are so back into the pen with them now.

I will miss Kolo too, think he is a great bloke and will always give 100% but from a purely playing ability stance its a good deal. He’s not the same guy since the last ACN, relies a lot on speed which he is losing and £15mil is a great deal if re-invested.

Seen as he doesn’t appear to get on with Gallas, I would keep Gallas for the year if we want to win trophies. He is the better defender when in form.

I still have a sneaky suspicion that AW may go for Hangelaand.

He may not totally suit our football but for the games against the likes of Bolton and Stoke he’d be perfect.

  83. avenell says:

    Hi irish..

Although I appreciate what Toure has done for us, I suggest this move is for money and not a career one, so he loses some of my respect.

I could understand it if he was to join his brother or go to an big Italian club.

Unless we have told him to go, then good luck to him..

  84. Cartman says:

all this bcoz of me 😀
Nice to see clichy back in training!

  85. avenell says:

Cartman.. It’s because your worth it.. l’oreal..

  86. rico says:

Irish – they are little tinkers aren’t they – where there is action, chickens want to be – what breeds are yours out of interest ? We have Ginger Nut Rangers and they are so so nosey 😉

Difficult decison between Kolo and Gallas – Gallas is a git and will walk for free next summer – where as Kolo is Mr Arsenal …..

Did Hangeland agree a new deal at Fulham or is he still stalling?

  87. Cartman says:

  88. Irishgunner says:

Avenell – I suspect that things may be frosty with Toure and Gallas certainly. He did hand in a transfer request in January and maybe AW just convinced him to stay on until the summer.

Either way, he will be going to the ACN in January and will come back shattered, then have a World Cup in the summer so will be a shadow of himself come next August.

I wish him well because I never questioned his commitment while at Arsenal, it also may push Wenger back into the market for another defender.

  89. rico says:

    Hi Cartman

  90. Cartman says:

    hey rico (hamster 🙂 )

  91. avenell says:

I just find it a shame that he may move to a club that I want to fall straight on their arse..
At the end of the day him moving to another premier league club shows disrespect for Arsenal.

  92. Irishgunner says:

Rico – I have no idea what breed they are, all I know is they eat a lot, wonder around and lay eggs 😛

Not sure if Hangelaand signed a new deal but what is for certain is that Fulham are in the market for a CB despite having bought one already.

  93. avenell says:

Irish… Rasp and me are the Toure and Gallas of Avenell Road today.. lol

  94. Cartman says:

fulham r looking for a cb?
we shud offer senderos+silvestre for hangeland!

  95. Irishgunner says:

Hi Cartman – great to see Clichy back.

Yeah Avenell I get what you are saying but at the end of the day the money is good for Arsenal.

  96. Irishgunner says:

    😆 Avenell

  97. Cartman says:

with toure leaving, we shud really buy another cb!

  98. avenell says:

Or drop Song into CH.. and buy Yaya.. 🙂

  99. rico says:

Cartman – guinea pig, please 😉

Thats funny Irish – ours do just the same 🙂

  100. Cartman says:

i think wenger said that song will be a cb! as for yaya, its just a dream now! 😦

  101. rico says:

Is he definately going to citeh the 😦

Yaya ave, now you are talking 😛

  102. Cartman says:

    ok rico!

  103. Cartman says:

    back in a bit…

  104. Irishgunner says:

It seems very possible, there has been no denial from Kolo or Arsenal as of yet

  105. Rasputin says:

ave – bags I’m Toure …. you can go and sit on the halfway line ……. 🙂

  106. London says:

My memory is getting a bit foggy Rasp. Can you tell me if Wenger had won the league before Henry arrived?

  107. avenell says:

Rasp…Hang your head over the advertising hoarding then.. 😉

  108. avenell says:

    That’s a pea-souper London.. lol..

  109. Rasputin says:

London … don’t be a little tinker as rico would say …. I work with wind-up merchants you’ll have to do a lot better than that!!

  110. Rasputin says:

    Arsenal have won 3 Premiership titles in 1997-1998, 2001-2002 & 2003-2004 = 1 before TH

  111. rico says:

Am i right in thinking that when a striker has left, Arsene normally replaces…

    Anelka – Henry
    Kanu – Ade
    Henry – Eduardo
    Jeffers – Nik 😉 😉

    And so on…..

  112. avenell says:

Unless he considers AK47 as a striker Rico..
Or Arsene is going for a 4-4-1-1, where you don’t need 2 definate strikers..

  113. Irishgunner says:

    Adebayor – Huntelaar 😉

  114. Irishgunner says:

I wonder will AW bank on Eduardo been fit or over his injury properly – he banked a bit on Rosicky last season been back in October and that bite him on the arse big time although we got Arshavin out of it.

  115. London says:

    Yes Rico.

    Wenger always follows that pattern.

  116. rico says:

Irish – I knew you would fill in that gap 😛

Ave – he hasn’t used him as one yet though, all bar Nikki are very under tall – if he isn’t going play the fast footie anymore we need height – mmmmm

  117. London says:

I reckon Yaya will move to Arsenal for the three following reasons: London has a sunnier climate, he will anticipate winning more trophies than at his present club and, of course, we will offer him a higher wage.

  118. rico says:

I thought you would all shout at me for the Jeffers – Nik 😛

  119. avenell says:

That’s true Irish.. also what do you make of us hanging on to Jay Simpson? He will be 21 soon, he has to make a decision on his future surely.

  120. avenell says:

London.. Same reasons as Hunterlaar then.

  121. rico says:

Thomas and Dudu could easily suffer setbacks, and if they do we are in the deep again….

  122. London says:

I don’t really understand what you mean. I had forgotten if we had won the league under Wenger before Henry arrived. The answer as you reminded me is yes, which flies in the face of my suggestion that Arsenal were not a successful club when he arrived, all quite innocent really. People are having a sensitive day; this is no time for me to start challenging people’s views.

  123. Irishgunner says:

Don’t see Simpson making it Avenell to be honest, reckon he is Championship standard.

  124. London says:

Huntelaar would have been told by Real Madrid that if he stays he will, more than likely, spend the rest of his contract sitting on the bench. Where as, Yaya would have been reasured that he is a valued member of the Barça squad. So, not the same at all.

  125. rico says:

Irish – no no no, he is going to be the new Wrighty 😉

  126. avenell says:

This is where I think the youth system fails slightly, at 20 years old you know if a player is any good or not… we have too many not good enoughs that we need to sell for the good of us and their own careers..

  127. rico says:

London – I think the Huntelaar v Yaya was a bit tongue in cheek 😉

No way will Barca sell Yaya, not now sadly 😦

  128. Irishgunner says:

Yep Avenell that’s true, don’t see Randall been much either.

Then again, I thought Flamini wasn’t up to much for the first few seasons.

  129. London says:

Wenger’s yard stick, when it comes to the strikers, is 23; he always points to Henry not blossoming until he was 23. Vela, Bendtner…….I have just realised you are talking about Randal, Simpson and co.

  130. avenell says:

In Flamini’s second season he helped take us to the CL final, I rated him then, a right footed left back.. But he was never given a proper chance in his best position, Arsene prefered Gilberto so Flamini was a hard one to judge..

There is something about Randell I like, but he really needs to step up now.

  131. London says:

I have just had a look at the Spanish press and the two stand out snippits of interest are that Barça have agreed to pay 70% of Hleb’s wages and I was reasured to see that the Real press still believe that they will get Alonso.

  132. avenell says:

London…. would you like to see a Flamini type player at Arsenal?

He is only used as an example of what some of us think we need..

Songasaurus is okay, but I would have a more mobile player over him anyday..

I am happy with the squad, and every team has a weak spot, this is where I think ours is.. that is the reason for the debate..

  133. rico says:

And we have – Merida, Barazite, Lansbury, Coquelin, JET and Frimpong chomping at the bit for a chance

  134. avenell says:

    and rosicky.. 😉

  135. London says:

Would I like to see a Flamini type player at Arsenal? As a fan I would always like to see the squad strengthened. My problem is that I think Flamini is totally over rated, he was playing next to Hleb, Rosicky and Fabregas which would make me look good. When it came to the big games; we went one up against Chelsea and lost the game, where was our defensive shield? We went one up against the mancs and lost the game, where as our defensive shield? We went ahead against Liverpool and lost the game, where was our defensive shield? Flamini failed to do his job.

To answer your question when it comes to needing a defensive shield, someone who is strong in the air, I would take Song every day. But that doesn’t mean that I think we need Song to play in every game. We don’t need a defensive shield when we are at home to a team that plays football on the floor like Fulham, for example, in this situation Denilson, next to Rosicky, Arshavin and Fabregas will not only do well, I expect people to start praising his contribution this season.

I know you like to take the piss out of me for this but I still think for games against Fulham that Rosicky could play the same position for us as he does for his country (deep play maker) with Arshavin or Vela on the left wing.

  136. JonJon says:

    hi guys….im here…what have i missed??? 😉

ole gunner..if your still reading…mate i would be devastated if we sold kolo..but it would only be for sentimental reasons and not footballing reasons…

i beleive that kolo is a player past his peak….he hasnt been the same player since sol left and i see him as a weak chain in the squad…

ive always seen him as a week link…the reasons why the invincibles didnt achieve glory in europe was because of 4 players whos quality didnt match the rest of the squads and kolo was one of them…

i love the guy..his heart, his passion, his desire…he is arsenal through and through…but for 15mil???? i wouldnt say no…

  137. London says:

Flamini or Rosicky as deep playmaker…….Rosicky

Flamini or Song as defensive shield……..Song

  138. rico says:

London – I think he has more than enough ability to play that role – but until the season gets going we are unsure how strong Thomas really is – he may take a few months to get truly match fit and by then our season could be in a tricky position 😦

Ave – just looked at the squad and Arshavin is still shown in the with the midfielders

  139. rico says:

Hey JonJon – I can hear you now 😉

  140. avenell says:

London.. It was not a piss take.. I just think it is wrong to use our best left winger, who can also cover the left back in that position.. It was more a leg pull over your stand on it..

If the whole team defended we would not have got out muscled Flamini couldn’t be on every opposition player..
he showed he was very capable by marking Kaka out of the game against AC milan.. the so called best player in the world.
Do you think Song or Denilson would have stopped us getting over run in midfield in the games you mention?
I believe it was a team problem, a question of attitude and desire.

  141. avenell says:

Rico.. so a 4-5-1 then.. not 4-4-1-1.. also Theo (oh no) was going to be used more as a striker.. believer.. 😉

  142. rico says:

I really don’t want Flamini back, I hope Song has been doing drill training all summer, worked on adding a bit more pace to his game, and got his hair cut….

One thing I am sure of having looked at his photo’s, his hair is still the same, so I hope, and in the words of Meatloaf

Two out of three aren’t bad 😉 😉

  143. rico says:

Now that was a good song too….

    Daydream Believer 🙂

  144. avenell says:

Or “paradise by the dashboard lights”.. 😉

  145. avenell says:

    by “Quornloaf”

  146. rico says:

Attitude and desire – where was Flamini’s in the final third of the season – the season he had made up his mind to move to Milan ? He, Ade and Hleb all went missing and I still blame them for us not getting over the finishing line ??

I know Gallas didn’t help with his tantrum, but was that not because of desire ??

  147. rico says:

Linda McCartney sang that one ave 😉

  148. avenell says:

Flamini missed some of the last third of the season, when he got injured against the dippers in the CL.. we never did so well after that.

  149. rico says:

all a cunning plan by him ave, he knew he was off and wanted nothing to ruin his transfer 😉

Just like Hleb slapping the Reading player 😦

  150. London says:

I believe Song would have done a much better job in those games. The Milan game at the San Siro, which I was at, is almost a one off special situation: the whole team including Adebayor played their socks off that night.

Ave says, Rosicky is such a special player that he probably could play as a deep play maker but I would prefer to see him on the left where he is not only excellent at going forward but good at tracking back.

    London says, fair point.

By the way, I meant “make fun” rather than the slightly more abrasive take the piss

    I’m good, I’m good

  151. JonJon says:

    hi rico, ave,london…

    ahh the old flamini thing…

  152. rico says:

Hey Guys – check out the new WD film, G Force – its out Friday and guess who is going 😛

  153. London says:

    Hi Jonjon

Have you seen the official site? RVP: “New striker will strengthen the team”

This is tantamount to the club saying a new striker is imminent. They would never allow such a comment on the site if they didn’t expect it to happen. Comments like that would be regarded as questioning Wenger’s judgement, something that is unthinkable on

  154. Irishgunner says:

Rico – we had an escapee, one chicken down spent the last hour and a half looking for her and nothing.

Any tips on luring her back?

  155. avenell says:

    Dun,dun,dun.. Hunterlaar or Chamakh?

Angel London.. your being too nice.. 🙂

  156. rico says:

Irish – thats horrid, any feathers around ??

She should head towards home as the sun goes down as long as they were kept in for more than a week before letting them out into the big wide world..

We always try food, and by using any means they associate with food …

I wish I could come and help you look

  157. JonJon says:

huntelaar huntelaar, huntelaar huntelaar huntelaar…. 😉

lonodn i agree the website would never say such a thing and its rvp too…it makes you wonder why he signed a long term deal dont it..?? 😉

  158. kelsey says:

considering i payed setanta a year up front and now they are in administration,at least in the u.k. why should i pay another amount to watch tonights game when it was scheduled on setanta to be shown.

  159. London says:

It does make me wonder, but I find it difficult to believe that they promised him Huntelaar. They couldn’t have been certain; he might have been wanted by Barça for all they knew. Maybe they went as far as saying that there are going to be some changes in the strike force and we are sure you are going to like them.
I have always had a suspicion that one of the principle reasons that the club brought Overmars was because he was Dutch and would keep Bergkamp happy.

  160. JonJon says:

    good point kelsey…

just do what i do and stream it…

  161. Irishgunner says:

I’m soaked wet from looking for her.

    No feathers as of yet.

Thing is, our house is surrounded on three sides by tall trees and ditches and the other goes onto the road. Added to that there are farms all around, she could have wandered very far.

4 people looking for her and no sign ….. little £$%^&

  162. London says:

Just chalk it down to one of those unlucky things Kelsey

  163. rico says:

If it’s raining real hard Irish, she could be hiding under the bushes to keep dry – ours do…

I really hope she wanders back your way real soon – they are frightened by traffic so she could very well stay away from the road…

  164. JonJon says:

london…i wonder why huntelaar pulled out of the stutgart deal at the last aint like he has a future with madrid is it???

    so whos talking to him…???

  165. Irishgunner says:

Its raining in patches, we checked under all the bushes, in the trees in the neighbour’s garden a few times and nothing so we are just hoping she’ll wander home.

Our road would have very little traffic but I walked it anyway and no sign of her.

JonJon- Stuttgart say the deal broke down over wages.

  166. Rasputin says:

I’d just like to remind folks that we will lose Song for the ACN. Every team benefits a Flamini/Ray Parlour/Grimandi type player in the squad. song improved immeasurably last season and definitely benefitted from a run of games – I hope he carries on from that position and doesn’t take another 10 games to regain that form.

  167. Rasputin says:

    Londonwum 😉

  168. rico says:

I have everything crossed Irish, you must be a right old state, I know I would be ….. I know you will anyway, but please let me know when she returns safe and sound with her tail between her legs…

  169. kelsey says:

is showing the game and toure is captain.

  170. London says:

Did you notice that Zidanesque pass from Song lol

  171. Rasputin says:

Hi kelsey … I wonder if that is the club making him captain as a fond farewell? …. it would be a nice touch and quite typical of the Arsenal

  172. rico says:

Grimandi Rasp, we could do with him…

  173. Rasputin says:

I was quite a fan of the Grimster as a utility player and someone to add a bit of beef when the opposition needed reminding that we wouldn’t be bullied.

  174. rico says:

He is our vice captain Rasp – is Cesc playing ?

  175. Rasputin says:

Sorry rico – bum info from kelsey 😦

  176. Irishgunner says:

Thanks Rico – hopefully she’ll wander in later. there is a rooster down the road, maybe she found a fancy man 😆

  177. rico says:

No worries Rasp, I have tried the link but it wont show the game 😦

  178. rico says:

Irish – you may just end up with a few chicks…..

  179. Irishgunner says:

If I do I’ll be looking for maintenance

  180. Irishgunner says:

Who scored? – darn stream keeps freezing 😦

  181. rico says:

Ha ha Irish, I hope she consents 😉

  182. rico says:

My stream won’t work at all ! 😦

  183. kelsey says:

toure is captain.traore great cross and bedntner superb header.then add eboue who is playing, which shows you all the rumours today about bedntner, eboue and toure seem to be ….just rumours.

    eduardo looks good.

no cesc or rosicky or rvp or arshavin or sagna or theo or clichy ….rico

  184. rico says:

Nikki B has scored then, and with his head 😉

  185. kelsey says:

eduardo 2-0 first touch bang left foot. luvely jubbly.

  186. Irishgunner says:

” bedntner superb header” – one of many to come from the upcoming season for Super Nicklas Bendtner 😀

  187. Irishgunner says:

Thanks for the updates Kelsey, I’ve given up on the stream.

Good to see Eddie on the score sheet again.

  188. rico says:

I hope you are right Irish 😉

  189. Irishgunner says:

Oh I will be Rico 😉

  190. kelsey says:

song and traore ok in defence, othwrwise nothing special.jack is playing right wing, eduardo left wing. traore looks good.

  191. kelsey says:

check….song is being wasteful in attack,we are playing 4-3-3.

  192. Irishgunner says:

    Is Song in midfield Kelsey?

  193. choy says:

    evening all..

edu and nikkib looking good i hear!

  194. kelsey says:

eduardo 3-0 free kick blast along the ground from outside the box. he never shows emotion bit different to the unmentionable

  195. kelsey says:

    yes djorou,song,ramsey.

  196. kelsey says:

4-0 bedntner.reversed pass from jack, blast it past the keeper from the edge of the box.

  197. choy says:

    seems easy.. this one

  198. kelsey says:

good work out in first half against a physical average team.we are playing in second gear and nic looks like a man relieved without ade on his back.

  199. Irishgunner says:

The Games against Valencia, Rangers and Madrid will be the key ones as it’ll be nearer the start of the season and more competitive – hopefully.

  200. Rasputin says:

Good running commentary kelsey … and great to see Nik has his shooting boots on….. I hope my point about Song earlier doesn’t come true……..

  201. kelsey says:

4 really good goals, no 1 yard tap ins, must give confidence.the big plus is that eduardo will be 100% match fit by the time the season starts, and we all know what he is capable of doing at everton.

  202. Rasputin says:

How many off sides kelsey? 🙂

  203. kelsey says:

eduardo still on.sed dare ros is on, and vermaellan.arshavin and rvp on.wilshers still on and ramsey.sorry going by the commentary,no teams come out. oh silvestre on for traore.

  204. Rasputin says:

Aaaaahhh – I’d forgotten about tweetypie – I pray we never need him this coming season…..

  205. kelsey says:

5 shots and 4 goals, and don’t remember an offside.

    gallas is on aswell.

  206. Irishgunner says:

No offsides 😯 Aw life without Adebayor 😀

  207. rico says:

Hi choy – how you doing ?

  208. Rasputin says:

Hey Irish … I hope your chook turns up 😦

Yes life without Ade is going to be less stressful. I had quite a long chat with pat Rice the summer TH left and he said that the team would be able to focus and play higher up the pitch and more for each other as a result of him leaving – I’m sure Ade’s departure will have the same effect…

  209. JonJon says:

    wilshires fecking quality…

hes gonna replace nasri for sure…

  210. kelsey says:

lovely chip by jack, hit the cross bar. we now have 2 complete attacking options covering all positions.

  211. choy says:

hello rico, m doing well! thank you.

    how are you doing?

  212. Irishgunner says:

Hiya Rasputin – cheers, no sign of her yet, I’ll give another look soon.

I think Adebayor hindered us at times and slowed us down.

  213. kelsey says:

we don’t need a lone big striker,we didn’t have one in the invinsibles, barca don’t have one.

by the way sen dare ros is still playing 😉

  214. rico says:

choy – i am tip top thanks, good to see nikki b earning his money 😉

  215. kelsey says:

oooops check barca have got ibramovich now.

  216. choy says:

    😆 no more headbutts… !!

  217. Rasputin says:

Its interesting this thing about slowing down play …. I’m in an absolute minority, but I thought that Hleb would often slow down play and over-complicate attacking moves. He seldom passed the ball more than 30 yards and was seriously lacking in power … not that any of that is relevant. Ade’s habit of drifting out wide used to drive me nuts.

We haven’t had a striker who’s attacked the near post since Wrighty and maybe Freddie – I think the Hunter would always place himself in the danger area if there is a chance of a crosss coming in…..

  218. rico says:

I still think we need Huntelaar, not to play as a lone striker but to give us something different

  219. rico says:

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (born 12 August 1983) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a striker for Real Madrid and the Dutch national team. Huntelaar is a classic “number 9” striker with good technique and athleticism, who can score all types of goals with either feet and with his head. He has been compared in playing style to Marco van Basten and Fernando Morientes.

Former Dutch national team coach Louis van Gaal has been quoted saying about the player “in the penalty box, he is the best player in the world, bar none.”Nicknamed ‘The Hunter’,

A classic No9 – thats what we so desperately need 😛

  220. Irishgunner says:

The thing with Hleb was, that he may have slowed down play on occasion but he lured defenders towards him which still created space. Adebayor just arsed about last season on the wing.

  221. rico says:

    5-0 now then, Robin penalty

  222. Rasputin says:

Haha rico – I put that passage up yesterday …. he does sound like exactly what we need to compliment the midfield and strikeforce we currently have….

  223. Evo in Oz says:

gday all, good warm up so far hey?!

  224. JonJon says:

a natural fox in the box guys…and not fanny jeffers…

someone who just wants to make the net ripple…nothing else…nothing more…just to score goals…

theres too much emphasis on the complete player…but those days are gone when thierry left…

we play more as a team now so lets put someone up front who just wants to score….and finish off that crisp attcking play…its no good doing pretty triangles and fancy 1-2’s only to have your striker stood out on the wing at the end of it all…

  225. kelsey says:

lost my link and rico has stolen it 😉

  226. rico says:

I am not watching kelsey, it didnt work for me – i am just looking at the text commentary on 😦

Irish – Ade was just an arse, full stop 😉

Rasp – we are spooky, we keep posting similar things and keep missing each others 😉 😉 I must wear my specs more often 😳

  227. Rasputin says:

    🙂 rico

kelsey … I always suspected you were the misssing link 😳

  228. Evo in Oz says:

fack, great save by Szczesny there, gallas sold him into trouble

  229. rico says:

JonJon – your last is spot on, we need less of the fancy stuff in the penalty area, just a player who has a severe addiction….

An addiction to scoring goals 😛

  230. kelsey says:

i have got a few missing links.

  231. kelsey says:

evo is nearly at the south pole and is watching the game and all our links have mysteriously gone down.

  232. Evo in Oz says:

    comical stuff up there

  233. Evo in Oz says:

Wenger interview coming up hopefully, lets see if he gives us any insight on the in/outs?

  234. Irishgunner says:

The chicken wandered home Rico 🙂

  235. Evo in Oz says:

no wenger interview, that is bollox

  236. Irishgunner says:

Suppose AW won’t give any until back in London for the Emirates Cup.

  237. Rasputin says:

rico – Irish has got homing chickens, that beats your Rhode Island Reds 🙂

  238. rico says:

Irish – some things in life get to me, and now I have tears down my face – I am so so happy for you – I sat and pondered about how I would feel if that was one of ours and I would be frantic with worry –

She knows where her home is, and I am so so happy and relieved for you 😛

Now go smack her arse and find out where she has been 😛

  239. Irishgunner says:

    😆 Rasputin

Should I take them a mile down the road and see if they find their way home? 😆

  240. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha Rico, I have every intention of having a word with her, they are grounded now for a few days for been so bold.

All the goals from the game are on Youtube for those that want to see them, they are on individual clips so I won’t bog down the blog by posting them here.

  241. London says:

The stand out of tonight’s game was Eduardo, fresh, hungry and raring to go.

  242. London says:

I have just read your thoughts on Hleb and incredibly, I agree, just think, at one moment in time we could have agreed on something…….spooky

  243. rico says:

    Irish 😉

  244. Irishgunner says:

Okay Dokey I’m off – a chicken needs telling off. Talk tomorrow 😀

  245. rico says:

London – you are old tinker – debates a just wonderful, but you and Rasp agreeing – well that tops it all –

From the ‘outside’ – i love reading both of your views – and I see so much logic in both…

  246. rico says:

Irish – just give her a big kiss and tell her to always come home, she will because that is where her heart is 🙂

    Have a good evening Irish..

  247. Rasputin says:

    Hi London,

    I agree 😉

  248. kelsey says:

stupid question but anyway why did we play these last two games in our new blue away kit ? We could have played in red,as there was no colour clash.

  249. rico says:

kelsey – to sell it 😉

I am off now all – catch you all tomorrow

sleep tight, stay safe and dont dream of Arsenal’s new signings 🙂

  250. Rasputin says:

    Nite nite rico……

  251. London says:

I have just been crusing and read that Senderos is in his final year of his contract, does any one know if this is true? If it is, it might be very much in his interest not be going anywhere; we may just have found this year’s DM, this year’s Flamini; a classic case of be careful what you wish for.

Actually he looked quite good there, but don’t tell anyone I said that.

  252. rico says:

    Morning all…

    Good old Titi 🙂

‘I am Arsenal through and through. I’d never advise anyone to sign for Tottenham. Patrick Vieira is a grown man who will do whatever he has to do for his own career. But I have never advised anyone about their future because it’s not my business.’

‘I can’t have Arsenal fans thinking I am helping Tottenham in any way. The truth is I was talking to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp and he told me he was trying to sign Patrick from Inter Milan. I was very surprised because Patrick is like me. He loves Arsenal.’

Looks like Kolo is almost gone 😦

  253. rico says:

Anyone woken up this morning feeling that we are in for some news….

    I have – don’t know why, but I just have….

    Catch you later 😉

  254. rico says:

Where are you all this morning ? 😉

  255. London says:

    Morning Rico

It’s a bit quiet today. The sale of Kolo is in the air which doesn’t make for a good feeling.

  256. rico says:

    Morning London

I really don’t want Kolo to go, he has been such a good man both on and off the field – but as many say, 15M is a lot of money to turn down. I don’t think Arsene wants him to go, and if he leaves I guess we all have to respect his decision, maybe he feels he needs a new challenge, and the arrival of TV may just make him think he will be 3rd choice..

It could however be just Citeh throwing their weight around again, as they did with Terry – making too many assumptions about who they are going to buy. Maybe today Kolo will follow Terry and make a statement saying he is staying etc..

My good feeling though is around buying, and the Huntelaar chase is starting to gather pace in the paps, if we really do want to buy him, the club need to make a move real soon otherwise we will lose out to Spurs or Milan – Madrid probably want the deal sorted out and doesn’t their season begin before ours ?

  257. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

I first saw Kolo play in a pre-season friendly at Barnet. I stood right by him with my daughter at the autograph hunter’s spot … we didn’t know who he was and didin’t ask for his autograph. I swear he was only about 5ft 9ins then and just had a quiet game at right back. I love his enthusiasm even though it could boil over into madness at times like when he lost it in the CC final. Anyway … I shall have fond memories of him, but unfortunately I can’t wish him success at citeh, I just hope he’s getting a fat pay packet and will enjoy his life after football.

  258. rico says:

    Morning Rasp

If he leaves, I hope his career goes down the pan, the same one I wish Ades to travel 🙂

He will double his salary if he goes, he should have a good life after footie 😉

  259. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

its the old head v’s heart thing isn’t it. The head says its good business for the club and the heart wants him to stay. Sadly its true he hasn’t been the same player for the last two seasons. It seems to stem from the malaria at the ACN, but more importantly the lack of a strong playing partner like Sol who he gets on with.

  260. London says:

My read on the situation is that Kolo is at an age where he knows he only has one more wage negotiation in which he is in the driving seat.

It is understandable that he will want to try and secure his own financial future as well as that of his family. This understandable loyalty to his family puts him in a difficult situation when City are able to offer him a five year contract on double the wage that he is getting now — figures that Arsenal cannot compete with.

I for one would not blame him for leaving but I will be sad to see him go and take no comfort from a 15 mil payment.

  261. rico says:

Rasp – it pulls my heart strings, he is the ‘last one’ 😥

You mention him playing alongside a player he gets on with, what if TV is that man, what if he brings Kolo back to his prime, he is only 28, he has 3/4 good seasons left in his legs yet..

Thats why I mention that maybe Gallas should be the third choice, or even replaced with a younger model. Next season he will go anyway, and on a freebie 😦

  262. rico says:

But would Kolo go just for the money ?

He has never struck me as that kind of person, and let’s not forget, Yaya has said that his brother wouldn’t take a step down in his career by moving to Citeh 😉

  263. Rasputin says:

Who knows rico … I’m all at sea at the moment. I felt like I was blogging on a different site the other day. We’re all going abit mad and losing Kolo just seems like ‘the old Arsenal’ is no more.

  264. rico says:

We need the season to start Rasp, the transfer window to shut, Kolo to say he is staying, those who are going to have gone, and Huntelaar, Yaya and Lescott to be bought by Arsene. Then we can all settle down and enjoy our season 😛 😉

  265. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

There is still so much speculation going on and i read gallas is being offered to Florentina as well as the toure move still gathering momentum.

This so called settled squad is far from settled with only 3 weeks to the start of the season though I accept the boss is looking at various options.

I noticed yesterday that neither rosicky or diaby were in the squad, and though it only amounted to yet another traning/fitness session our defence still looks vunerable.

Interestingly in the first half the combination of Eduardo and Bedtner looked beter then after half time with RVP and AA and eduardo, but then again we were already 4-0 up.

  266. London says:

This brings me back to my definition of “loyalty”. If Kolo were to walk away from an offer of a 5 year contract at double the weekly wage to stay with us out of respect for the help the club have given him then I would call him loyal.

Fabregas could get a much better deal somewhere else but stays, so I would call him loyal.

RVP is a borderline case; a six month wage negotiation is the same as saying I am here if anyone wants me, in his case no one came in so he stayed because we were the best option which I would suggest is slightly different to showing loyalty.

And this is the main point I have been trying to get across: when a player stays, for reason that he has not received a better outside offer, doesn’t him “loyal”, it makes him a player accepting the best offer available.

By contrast, if Kolo does chose to leave I would not describe him as being disloyal for reasons stated in my 9:16

  267. kelsey says:

The money issue has also changed the concept dramatically as to how long the elite have to play these days.

Any player today on one hundred K a week can within a short period of say 3 years have enough to live on for the rest of his life,if he is prudent.

Therefore a certain percentage of players will move on a regular basis, including our own Cesc regardless if we win the CL or not.

A fact of life, sad but true.

  268. rico says:

London – Kolo has been an example for all footballers on how to behave at a club – if he goes I wouldn’t say he is disloyal either – but I wouldn’t wish him good fortune at another club. I haven’t ever wanted a player who leaves us to be a success at their next club except Bobby Pires – he was a totally different story..

As I said earlier, if Gallas is the reason for him wanting to go, I would rather it were Gallas who left.

  269. Rasputin says:

Your definition of loyalty is obvious and correct …. no-one as far as I know, has argued against that. Loyalty is not a term often applied to business. Its OK for fans and players to be loyal, but presumably its OK for businesses not to be loyal if the justification is that ‘it is good business’

Selling Kolo for £15m is good business for the club …. I’d like to see us sign another CB if he goes.

  270. rico says:

Hi kelsey – I didnt see the game last night, so cant comment – I am really looking forward to the Emirates cup because I think we will all then see just who will be ready for the season ahead. I also hope that IF there are new players to be bought, they will be signed by then.

  271. rico says:

Nigel Clough has confirmed he will not be signing Arsenal youngster Mark Randall on a long-term loan.

Randall has been training with the Rams and featured in three friendlies on the club’s pre-season trip to the South West last week.

The midfielder was hoping to secure a move to Pride Park as he looks to gain further first-team experience, having made 11 appearances for Arsenal to date.

However, the 19-year-old will now have to wait for his opportunity after Clough decided against following up his initial interest.

“We have decided not to pursue anything with Mark,” Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

“We have spoken to Liam Brady at Arsenal and to Mark, and although he did quite well for us while we were away, we think we need a different sort of midfielder.

“We need somebody who is going to come in and really challenge the three central midfielders we have in there.

“We have three very good players – Robbie Savage, Stephen Pearson and Paul Green – and arguably they have impressed as much as anybody in the last three or four weeks.”

I would be gutted if I were Mark Randall, not considered good enough to challenge Lilly Savage for a place in the midfield –

What now for him, and spooky as this was discussed yesterday…

  272. rico says:

Rasp – I think we need on even if he stays, Kolo, Gallas and TV are all good enough – but look at the back up – JD, Silvestre, Senderos, Song – I wouldn’t want to put a lot of trust in any of those right now.

kelsey – I havent seen the Gallas rumours, do Fiorentina want both him and Eboue ?

  273. Rasputin says:

    Hi again rico,

I can’t see us signing a CB, midfielder and a striker … If Ivan pulls that off, I’ll be his greatest fan.

  274. rico says:

Nor can I Rasp, but a girl can dream 😉

All a bit quiet, so I am off for a while

    Catch you all later 😛

  275. London says:

This, of course, will come as no surprise to you but I expect us to sign a CB, a midfielder and a striker; although, I also expect Kolo, Senderos, Eboue, Traoure, Randal and Simpson to leave, the latter three on loan.

We should swap notes at the end of the transfer window. In fact, this might make a good side bar in the same way we do when we try and predict the scores.

  276. London says:

Oh, and by the way Rasp, the discussion about loyalty was with Kelsey and Big Raddy.

  277. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

Any news on the Arsenal front?

  278. London says:

    Hello Irish

What are your predictions for our activity in this transfer window.

  279. Irishgunner says:

    Morning London,

Think Toure and Senderos will be sold. Randall and Simpson will go out on loan for the full season.

We will try and buy Hangelaand with the Toure money, Matuidi will come in cheap (£2mil) and possibly we may get a striker as well.

  280. Rasputin says:

It’s hard to argue with someone who believes the things you want to happen will come true … if you understand what I mean 😕

You and I exchanged several comments on the loyalty debate a week or two ago .. I didn’t think I was excluded 😦

  281. London says:

My memory is not what it was. Goldfish in a bowl springs to mind.

  282. London says:

Good call, yeah I reckon we will get a midfield cheapy; someone who offers hope, who won’t rock the boat but can be sold at a profit if things don’t work out.

  283. Irishgunner says:

Percentage of Premier League fans planning to attend fewer games
    Arsenal 33
    Manchester United 33
    Liverpool 33
    Birmingham City 31

    Burnley 19,_Arsenal_and_United_fans_to_stay_away_-_survey&in_article_id=710532&in_page_id=43

  284. Irishgunner says:

I went into moderation there – must be the link.

Interesting stats though and shows its not all about winning.

London – Maybe that’s more what I hope will happen (apart from selling Kolo) but at the same time has a reasonable chance of occuring.

  285. Rasputin says:

    Hi Irish,

Those are very interesting stats… do you know how the percentages relate to admission prices?

  286. Irishgunner says:

    Hi Rasputin,

I don’t but I’ll have a look around and see if they match up i.e are Arsenal the dearest and Burnley the cheapest

  287. Irishgunner says:

    Morning Rico,

BBC “understand” that talks are ongoing between Arsenal and CIty over Kolo

  288. rico says:

Ha ha Irish, we strike the same again 😉

  289. Irishgunner says:

    We do indeed Rico 😆

If the £15mil is used straight away to bring in Hangelaand then it might be just about okay.

  290. rico says:

He says, nothing is decided and will see what happens in the next week – doesn’t sound good 😦

  291. rico says:

On new arrivals – we are of course looking but i dont want to put any time limits on it – maybe in the next few days, or weeks. at the moment we are concentrating on everyones fitness..

  292. rico says:

Off out for a while, back soon ..

  293. Irishgunner says:

Doesn’t sound like Kolo is staying does it?

If Kolo does leave and nobody comes in, I’d be furious with Wenger – our defence certainly isn’t good enough.

If he doesn’t buy another striker – then okay the goals should come but a lack of defensive cover AGAIN is inexplicable. He better have something up his sleeve.

    But I’ll calm cos I’m sure he’ll sign 😉

  294. Rasputin says:

Have we been linked with any other defenders apart from Hangelaand? It appears the source of our focus for acquiring new players has moved from Africa to mainland Europe. I’ve always liked Dutch players although they can be moody….Norwegians have a fantastic work rate, and in general the northern european players are more reliable I think.

  295. kelsey says:

    Hi Irish,

looks like you are right about Kolo,BBC have more or less confirmed he is going.I don’t think it’s all about money, maybe there are other issues besides his row with Gallas, such as he cannot be guaranteed a first team spot anymore.

I keep reading how great that we will not have so many players going to the ANC. So what,we need to be in a position by then that we are still in contention for the title and that the majority of players remain fit, and we cure our vunerability in defence. We must buy at least cover for Kolo, but i trust in Wenger that he has already made plans, though I hope it is not Senderos.

  296. kelsey says:

Ilike the eastern european and russian players. they have a harder mentallity, but i haven’t a clue who is available.

  297. Irishgunner says:

Not too sure Rasp – Hangelaand is the only one I’ve heard off.

Agree with you Kelsey. Selling Adebayor and Toure for x amount of money in an ACN year is good but only if they are replaced. Better have a player for half a year than not at all.

  298. peachesgooner says:

    Hi all

My lap-top has died and I had to threaten my son with allsorts to get some access 😉

Hope everyone is well, catch up later – I hope 😀

  299. Rasputin says:

All I can say is that the powers that be must be like the proverbial duck …. all calm and serene on the surface whilst working away like mad below the surface!

If we do not replace Kolo, the net result of this summer’s dealings will be a negative in terms of the strength of the squad in the areas that need reinforcing.

  300. London says:

I think the expression is based on the proverbial Swan rather than a duck but I know what you mean. Let’s hope it is true.

  301. peachesgooner says:

    Kolo has gone for £16m

  302. Franchise says:

Arsenal are agreeing terms with Utopia FC Belgian born defensive midfielder (captain) Dreamon Noone

  303. Rasputin says:

Are you having fun at our expense Franchise? …

  304. Franchise says:

im in la-la land Rasp 🙂

  305. Franchise says:

if we sign noone (the belgian)after £43m worth of sales then Arsenal are in a serious mess financially and cant come out to admit it. Worrying times

  306. Rasputin says:

I must admit, I’ve been close to hysterical myself a bit lately Franchise. I cannot comprehend that we haven’t got a deal in the bag for a replacement for Kolo. What really pee’s me off is that we still have tweetypie in the squad …. can it all really just be about money and bugger the football?

  307. Franchise says:

    rude of me…. Hi guys

  308. kelsey says:

is he related to peter noone of herman’s hermits… milk today 🙂

  309. Franchise says:

    probably kelsey

no one seems to have a dossier on noone

  310. Irishgunner says:

    I’m a muddle of confusion so don’t know what I think 😕

    Hiya Franchise

  311. Cartman says:

  312. Franchise says:

hi Irish ive avoided the forums for almost a week now. i cant cope with our lack of activity

  313. Cartman says:

    hello! guys!

  314. peachesgooner says:

    Hiya Franchise and Irish

nooone – I’ve heard he’s great at set-pieces, lets get him in, maybe he has brother too 😉

  315. Irishgunner says:

I’m getting a teeny bit worried Franchise to be honest. We better see a new “battling” signing by this time next week or I may have no finger nails left.

Even with Kolo there I wasn’t too happy with our defensive options so as you can imagine I’m not any happier now.

    Hi Cartman.

  316. peachesgooner says:

    Hey Cartman

    Sorry, I’m not stopping 😦 catch u later 🙂

  317. Irishgunner says:

    Afternoon Peaches

  318. Cartman says:

we’re all in the same state irish!

  319. Cartman says:

    hi peaches!

  320. Rasputin says:

Hey Irish … don’t look to me to cheer you up I’m afraid…. I flagged this up a week ago and was called a pessimist 😦

They are saying that Fulham have offered to double Hangeland’s wages to stop him coming to THOF. We’re all getting excited over him and he’s not that good!

  321. Cartman says:

fran, what about yao ming for our new cb??? lol

  322. Irishgunner says:

Bring in Hangeland for £15mil and I say we are challenging for trophies

  323. Franchise says:

    cartman wasuup?

  324. Irishgunner says:

Hangeland would be good for teams like Bolton and Stoke though. They are only offering him £30k a week, even we can beat that 🙂

  325. Rasputin says:

    I’m off for a while … laters

  326. Franchise says:

yao ming would be fantastic cartman

  327. Cartman says:

    great fran!

yeah he wud be great but wud play with his hands! 😀

  328. Irishgunner says:

Hiddink has called up Arshavin for a friendly in Russia on Aug 12th – pi55 off Hiddink

  329. London says:

“Spurs boss Harry Redknapp fears Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira will turn down Lane move” (Daily Mail)

    Now there is a surprise

  330. JonJon says:

    evening guys…

london…i wonder if arry could tell us the next winning lottery numbers??? he seems to have a firm grasp of the obvious dont you agree???

  331. London says:

    That’s funny

There’s not much going on, just twiddling our fingers waiting for more football

  332. rico says:

    Hi JonJon, cartman and Fran..

If Arsene says we have too many defenders, then sell Senderos and Silvestre – not Kolo !

  333. rico says:

Sky are talking as if Kolo has signed, I am not happy, in fact for me its a very sad day, 16M or no 16M 😦

  334. rico says:

In fact I am getting pretty peed off now – I know there is a long way to go until the end of the season, but if we don’t buy a CH, HM and a striker, I think we are not going to qualify for the CL let alone win anything ! 😦

  335. JonJon says:

    rasp..this ones for you mate…

i understand your concerns..they are very valid and i agree with them..

but the reason why ive been so positive recently is because of a number of reasons…

1…wenger knows that coming into a fifth year without any trophy at all, he isnt going to be able to convince the fans his squad has ‘charachter or mental strength’ those lines dont work anymore…

2…he also knows that the fans arent buying into the fact this team has to ‘stay together’ we are losing ground quickly with some of these players and last year proved was a massive gap…

3..he admitted changes have to be made…with us having such a young side their were times last season when the experience players had to be stood up to be counted and they didnt..the kids outshone them…its no surprise that the players who are linked with leaving us are seen as our ‘experienced’players are leaving…

4…it was rumoured he had 13 mil to spend…hes spent it quickly on germeline and rvp contract renewel…he needs to sell to buy and thats what we are doing at the minute… seems to me wenger realises what needs to be done but he needs to create the opportunity to get the means to work with….

6…while its the off season and with wenger still at the helm i have every confidence that he will put last year right…

i predict that in the next few days he will offload kolo and eboue…which will help bring in the funds and will help during the ACN…id like him to get rid of silvestre but he isnt worth anything….he has to get rid of the players who are worth something…

he will bring in hangelaand in a swap deal with senderos..and he will sign huntelaar…

my cousin down south said that hes already got matuidi as the CM

and all three new signings will be announced at the emirates cup in front of our fans….

if we carry on losing players and nobody is signed i will go into mental breakdown and you know what im like when im in my arsenal induced manic depressive stage!!!!!

but until the season starts i will continue to remain optimistic because hope and beleif is the only thing that will keep me sane when theres no football on…

besides we sold ade…thats made my summer birthday, xmas all in one.. 😉

  336. rico says:

JonJon, you have just made me feel a little better, not a lot though 😉

  337. JonJon says:

    dont fall asleep.. 😆

rico…he cant sell silvestre because hes not worth diddly..

16mil for kolo is good business…i would be upset if he left..but only for sentimental reasons…not footballing ones…kolo is not the best defender at our club and never has been…his passion is what makes him but sometimes it takes more than passion when you are gunning for glory..his times been and gone…

the money is too good to say no to…and if he goes…then i cant wish him well..for obvious reasons but i will hold no grudges and he’ll always be an invincible to me….kolo owes us nothing…i hope he gets the fattest contract he can…

  338. rico says:

Mine is all sentimental aswell JJ – and like you I hope he goes on to play the worst he has ever played in his life 😉

  339. rico says:

This is a real strange one, but you MUST read …

  340. JonJon says:

to be honest rico…i dont think ive seen kolo play as bad as he has for us in the past 18months….

hes no worse than JD…so i dont see it as a big loss..

i cant see him being any better at citeh…

he wont be any better…once he has all that money he wont care about citeh…arsenal runs through his veins..he wont be the same player…

for 16mil they can have him…and they are buying a dud and we can use it to sign someone we need…

  341. rico says:

JJ, my head knows that, honestly, but my heart…. well that is something different 😉

I will miss his big bum in a pair of white shorts, but I guess Arshavin can take that role now 😛

  342. London says:

“but the reason why ive been so positive recently is because of a number of reasons”

From where I stand it is quite funny when people feel they have to apologise for being positive 😉

I like number 6, that is definitely my favorite.

  343. JonJon says:

it is wierd rico..but anyone can update wiki…

i think de rossis worth like 25 mil anyway…i cant see it happening if im honest…

does anyone think that weve already agreed terms with Le Hunter but hes waiting to see if we qualify for CL first???

i cant undertand why hes pulled out of the deal with stutgart and nobody else has come in for him yet???

its echoes of AK47 all over again…

  344. London says:

    Hi Rico

That’s funny, I was thinking that, Arshavin does look like he has a penchant for the pies.

  345. JonJon says:

    London.. 😆

im not apologising for being positive…im just trying to cheer rasp up… 😉

    rico…you’ll be ok…WE HAVE CESC FABREGAS… 😉

  346. London says:

I was only kidding, we will get signings and Rasp will cheer up again.

  347. JonJon says:

    i know london…

and if we dont get signings you will all be listening to me go into endless rants about how we are going to get relegated this season… 😉

  348. rico says:

    He is ours JonJon 😛

    London 😛

  349. JonJon says:

    anyone spoke to ave today??

is he hard at work again??

oh and has anyone got a post for tomorrow???

  350. rico says:

Did you guys see my earlier about Randall not going on loan to Derby as Nigel Clough says he is no better than Robbie Savage 😉

    He is truly doomed 😦

  351. kelsey says:

I just found this, so maybe AW is right. Evening JonJon.rico and London.

A survey by Virgin Money of 690,000 season ticket holders claims that 200,000 of them will not renew their season tickets this summer. 29 per cent blame the rising costs of following their team or the poor quality of football on offer as the reasons for not renewing. 19 per cent of Manchester United fans asked in the survey said they would not renew because of the cost, followed by Birmingham (18 per cent), West Brom (17 per cent), Cardiff (16 per cent) and Portsmouth (14 per cent). 31 per cent of Aston Villa season ticket holders said they would renew because of the standard of football on display, followed by Millwall (29 per cent), Wolves (28 per cent), Southampton (27 per cent) and Sunderland (26 per cent). There are special factors at work in many of these clubs, however: four were relegated, one just missed promotion, one just missed relegation and one (Southampton) is the focus of considerable fan discontent with the board. Virgin Money estimates that the total spent per season by football fans across Britain is £8.8 billion with season ticket holders spending an average of £1,875 each a season (for all associated costs). Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters’ Federation declared, ‘Football in this country is simply pricing itself out of the market compared with other top European countries like Germany and Spain.’ However, a note of caution is necessary. There is a difference between what people say in response to hypothetical surveys and what they actually do as leading retail firms like Tesco understand. For some supporters, saying that they will not renew their season ticket is an annual ritual which always end in a purchase just before the deadline.

  352. JonJon says:

    hi kelsey…

wengers said for ages recession will hit football…but i think we have about 50, 000 fans on the waiting list so well be ok…and if they dont want one…i’ll have one…its only cos its a million year waiting list i havent bothered…

rico..randall has something about him i dont like…

but if clough doesnt rate him but wenger does id rather take wengers word….

but i still dont think he’ll make it…

  353. rico says:

JJ, me too, he reminds me of Bentley…

  354. JonJon says:

yeah..the type of guy that gets chinned in restaurants…

  355. rico says:

    Just that JJ 🙂

  356. rico says:

JonJon – how ‘connected’ is your friend down south, out of 10, how would you rate the info he has said about Matuidi ?

  357. JonJon says:

    hes my cousin rico…

he hangs around with a few of the players when they ‘socialise’ together…

    so he says….

at the start when he first told me i would of said it was a 7-10…

    probably a 5 now… 😦

  358. rico says:

Thats good enough for me, one of the players must have said something JJ – and he sounds like a steady player with an ability to lead, just what our midfield needs – cesc will grow alongside him and life could very well be rosey 😉

Funny though, the thoughts that keep going through my head are indeed about Cesc, Robin, Clichy, Sagna, and a few others who have just signed new contracts – they have been told something, something to reassure them that the future is bright at Arsenal..

Why, when Ade and Kolo are leaving, would they stay otherwise – if I was them and knew that the team around were departing, I too would jump ship – maybe just maybe the players we want are on their way in….

    Just maybe…

  359. rico says:

    JonJon – just for you…

Dinner tonight is smoked haddock on a bed of rice with garden peas, seasoned courgette and runner beans – with a lemon based sauce 😛

  360. JonJon says:

    LMAO rico

ive just had a platter of spag on a bed of bog!!!

  361. rico says:

Thats sounds just the job JJ, and I bet it tastes better than this old **** I am cooking 😉 😉

  362. JonJon says:

doubt it rico…i made it myself…and im the type of guy that burns the cornflakes… 😆

  363. Rasputin says:

    Hi JonJon, rico et al,

Thanks for your list JonJon, had it been the other way round, I would probably have compiled a similar list myself 😛

I’ve found myself in this position in the last few summers and I can’t get those experiences out of my head. AW has said today that he will consider letting Kolo go because we have plenty of cover in that position. Since London tells me that lying is part of the ‘transfer spin’, I have to hope that he’s a naughty fibber and Hangeland is lined up … but if not …… 😦

  364. rico says:

Just how I like cornflakes JJ 😉 😉

  365. rico says:

Now I have eaten and am very full, so a nice walk and bed for me now that the chickens have gone to bed – not before trashing the garden again, they are now banned until October !! 😉

You all stay safe, sleep well, and lets all dream of a few incomings rather than outgoings 😛

Nighty night all – see you bright and early 😉 😉 😉

  366. Rasputin says:

    Night rico, sleep well …..

  367. Rasputin says:

I guess I’ll talk to myself. I’ve just scanned most of the popular blog sites and the majority seem to be in favour of getting in another CB rather than viewing TV as Kolo’s replacement (in advance)

  368. London says:

I would have thought this channel would have also been already on that list of sites that would be in favour of bringing in another CB rather than viewing TV as Kolo’s replacement.

  369. Rasputin says:

Your inference is incorrect London ….. I didn’t say this site held the opposing view. From what I have read today, it seems that Irish, rico and peaches would like to see Hangeland brought in – probably JonJon too.

  370. London says:

I am still laughing at your dismissal of David Villa as one of those small players that we already have plenty of. I’m not sure that you really believe that or you said it to back up another point but either way it was very funny.

  371. Rasputin says:

Just carry on London ……. do you want to correct any of my english this evening?

  372. London says:

What was my inference…if it wasn’t that the majority of people on this channel held the same view.

  373. Rasputin says:

If you really think we’d stump up the money for Villa, you’re more deluded than I thought. Of course he’s a quality player who would add to our squad, but there is zero chance we will sign him ……

  374. London says:

I cannot think of a single instance when I have ever corrected your English. I have always thought of you as having a greater grasp of the language than I. If you are refering to the swan and the duck. I was just trying to help you. Lighten up.

  375. London says:

Well that is a bit different from saying he is one of those small player we already have plenty of. Lol

  376. Rasputin says:

I don’t your need help in the english language London – your response was grammatically in correct, but I thought that this was a football blog and folks expressed themselves without worrying if some ‘editor’ was going to comment. I don’t need to lighten up – I’m perfectly chilled. You, on the other hand, should ask yourself why you get banned from sites.

  377. JonJon says:

evening boys… in favor of letting kolo go..and if we dont replce him im not really bothered…

we still have gallas, germeline, JD and senderos..

if we use senderos in a swap deal with hangelaand then im all for that…

    4 quality CB’s…with song as backup…

  378. London says:

Please tell me when I commited this crime? I genuinely do not know when I did what I am accused of?

  379. Rasputin says:

There is no point in speculating on Villa as we are not going to sign him – unless you believe we are?

We have a lot of small, technically gifted, mobile players, Huntelaar would add another dimension to our strikeforce and is potentially within budget.

  380. JonJon says:

    Whats all this about now???

I thought you two were getting along ok..I know there’s no football on but we dont need to start on each other do we???

  381. Rasputin says:

You were correct in your assumption = @ 1:31

  382. JonJon says:

    Whats all this about now???

I thought you two were getting along ok..I know there’s no football on but we dont need to start on each other do we???

  383. London says:

Lets get this clear Rasp you have accused me of correcting your English please tell me when this happened?

  384. Rasputin says:

    Hi JonJon,

I know Gallas is the consummate professional, but he’s off after next season come what may and he doesn’t need to impress to find a new club back in France. I doubt at his age whether he will stay fit all season, so we have to expect a CB pairing of TV and Phil / JD, and that is an untested partnership. I think JD will come good, but like a lot of the squad, he hasn’t reached that level yet.

  385. Rasputin says:

    I’ve answered that London … drop it…..

  386. JonJon says:

and why am i posting two of the same???

  387. London says:

He makes these acusations. If I just knew when I corrected his English I would apologise

  388. London says:

So you are talking about the Duck and the Swan….that is not correcting your English.

I have not come on here tonight to upset you. Relax a bit.

  389. Rasputin says:

Two C’s in accusations! – yes I was talking about you correcting my reference to a duck … I think everyone got my drift without your assistance. OK, will you drop it now?

  390. London says:

I was brought up on a Council Estate and received a comprehensive school education; the fact that my spelling is atrocious does not surprise me….whats more I don’t give a duck or should I say Swan lol

  391. JonJon says:

can i ask you something guys??

have either of you really taken it personally, honestly?? because i dont see a huge problem really…

  392. Rasputin says:

OK London … it’ll be just fine if you restrict the windups to other sites. We can blog together as long as there is mutual respect. Things don’t get under my radar like some folks, so let’s agree that the games stop now. That doesn’t mean we can’t have a good debate together on any subject… I’m sure you know exactly what I mean……

  393. London says:

I’m laughing my head off here. I thought he was purposely trying to be funny about David Villa and I was just trying to join in the banter. I hope he is alright, no out side porblems or anything like that.

  394. London says:

I know I can be a bit of a pain at times and I have apologised to you before but you have misread the situation tonight. There was no inference as you wrongly guessed, I was not mocking your reference to David Villa and the duck and the swan…come on, you must have other things on your mind to allow that to upset you. I have told you before I like blogging with you. I often take the stance I do because I know you are more than capable of holding your own.

  395. JonJon says:

i was brought up in yorkshire, raised by a cockney, although my real dads welsh, my favorite subject at school was french only cos i fancied my teacher who was belgian and i left school at 15 anyway…

my english is spelling and punctuation is shit…but im an arsenal fan and i dont think anyones grammar really matters when it comes to talking football..

if it mattered my opinion wouldnt mean diddly but everyone gets along with me so why cant you two get along without worrying about who can win the next episode of countdown… 😆

or am i getting the wrong end of the stick???

  396. JonJon says:

i think rasp has had a hard couple of weeks and is wound up because of the lack of arsenal and londons just drunk.. 😆

if we were in a pub id say it was a fight between two friends waiting to happen…

so im stepping in as the good friend that i am…buying rasp a cyber pint and…buying london a cyber pint of water 😉 and getting the pool cues out and the table set up.. 😉

i wanna play london for money though with him being the drunk one…i’ll clean up and get my money back i paid on the pints.. 😉

  397. London says:

We just need Ave to come in now and say: When I were lad I used to live in cardboard box under motorway

  398. Rasputin says:

The fact is London – you prefer an argument to a debate and that is why you got banned for the second time elsewhere yesterday. If you are not careful you will give this site a bad name as you have a growing reputation as a troublemaker.

JonJon, I have immense respect for you. I think your method of presentation and your views are brilliant. I have never taken offence at any of your comments and generally find myself either agreeing with you or admiring your passion.

As previously, I have tried to draw a line under this and move on……..

  399. London says:

I am, yet again, wrongly accused; I have not had a single drink….read back and I challenge you to tell me where I have been offensive.

  400. Rasputin says:

    JonJon 🙂

  401. JonJon says:

did anyone see the skysports stats on kolo last year…??

    he was crap…

in the list of defenders who won ariel challenges he came 35th in the league…

lets say each team has two CB’s…theres 19 teams so thats 38 Cbs…according to my belgian french maths that makes kolo a relegation threatened defender!!!

even if we up it to 3 cbs.. thats like 57 Cbs…kolo came 35th…35th??????

on tackles he came somthing like 25th…which is crap again…

and on passes he came 19th…

ive been trying to find them all night so i can show you guys….i cant…

i know we dont really do stats but when the stats match what you see as well you gotta say for 16mil we are getting a good deal…

i’ll miss him but we could buy alot better for half the price…

  402. JonJon says:

london…im sorry if you took offense to my comment…i wasnt saying you were actually drunk i was just trying to lighten the mood… 😉

i was trying to put it into perspective…

if you want i could change it round so rasp is the drunk one and youve had the hard day….either way we still get the same result and im still buying the pints and taking the money off one of you at pool… 😉

i read back through the comments and i personally wouldnt of been offended by what you said to rasp about the birds if you had said it to me…

im just playing peacemaker mate i aint taking sides…

  403. Rasputin says:

I didn’t see those JonJon, but Kolo’s exit certainly has elicited an emotional response. I think it is a combination of the fact that he is undoubtedly a great guy and a loyal servant of the club, and that he is the last of the Invincibles – and who wouldn’t be nostalgic about that era? It is good business to let him go and maybe we have seen the best of him, but as tonight has shown, football supporters are passionate beings 😉

  404. London says:

I just wish I knew what I said to you tonight that has made you so upset. If I did I would avoid doing it in the future but I am genuinely confused. If you look at your first comment at 9:30 you will see that my 9:35 agrees with you. We have to sort this out otherwise I fear I will unwittingly make the same mistake.

And as for being banned from the other site you mentioned. I regard it as the main achievement of my week.

  405. Rasputin says:

    ref…. @ 10:17

  406. London says:

I need examples to understand what you are talking about. Because these wind ups, as you call them, seem imaginary to me.

  407. JonJon says:

i thought we werent mentioning other sites anymore.. after ‘cartmangate’ 😉

but if its from where i think its from im off to have a peek.. 😉

  408. London says:

    London Says:
    July 27, 2009 at 10:13

Why do you blame the club for Edu’s desire to play part of his career in Spain? Edu was on a set contract; he made it clear that he would honour that and then, as was his right, he openly explained that he would like to leave for Valencia. I do not understand why you use this innocent occurrence as a stick to beat Arsenal with?

This is the post that got me banned. Tell me, what did I do to justify that because I don’t know?

  409. JonJon says:

    cant find it. 😦

  410. London says:

    I’m good, I’m good

  411. London says:

    I have just reposted it.

  412. London says:

    Come on Rasp, join in

  413. London says:

Have you all left? Just remember when all the toys come out the pram tomorrow morning I wasn’t the first who started talking about another site.

  414. JonJon says:

oh that site…havent read it in weeks so would never have known if it hadnt of been mentioned..

  415. JonJon says:

    you sure your cool london????

    what about you rasp???

water under the bridge or what??

  416. London says:

If I wrote that on the lefty site someone would have said London your a star lol.

I off for the night, it’s been fun, I hope you are ok Rasp, It wouldn’t be as much fun without you. Big hug

    Night Jonjon

  417. JonJon says:

and i still cant find these bloody stats on kolo..

  418. peachesgooner says:

Look boys, I really don’t think its necassary to have this on the blog but here goes…….

London – you have been winding a few of us up with some of your comments whether its intentional or not it still has the same effect – you could manage to make an arguement with a shadow.

rasps comment about the duck didn’t need any qualifying from you and it would have been better if you had said nothing – we all make grammatical and spelling mistakes all the time and it would be really tedious if everyone corrected everyones mistakes…..

I suggest that as we are all authors of the site we email each other if there are any problems and not broadcast what ends up being an unseemly row

  419. Rasputin says:

    JonJon… July 27th 10:13 – 10:23 and onwards……

London … you have posted links on other sites so don’t play the innocent…

    My last word……

    Night all….

  420. raif says:

woop woop roadsters…. 16 mill for Kolo thats a good deal i say..

  421. peachesgooner says:

Hey raif – how are you – have you aired the The Jacket 🙂

  422. Rasputin says:

Hi raif … where do you stand on the need for a replacement for Kolo?

  423. peachesgooner says:

Theres not much point in me refereeing if you go to bed 😦

  424. Rasputin says:

I’m still around peaches … just wanted to put that particular episode to bed 🙂

  425. peachesgooner says:

What would life be without a spat with London eh 🙂 🙂

  426. London says:

    Peaches dearest

Please show me one wind up, as you put it, all the comments are above. As I said to Rasp I cannot change if I do not understand what exactly he is upset about and as of yet he has not been able to give me one single example, I remain confused.

  427. peachesgooner says:

I think it might be time for a rico special cos this page is so slow – any ideas for a quick ode to kolo and I’ll quicken everything up……

  428. raif says:

Hello peachesgooner.. i havent yet its still air tight in the geothermal vualt. 😉

Rasputin: i think we should get a big lump of a defender, NOT short and athletic like the rest wenger seems to buy.

  429. peachesgooner says:

London – I’ll email you tmoro, I really don’t think we need to be doing this on the blog…

  430. Rasputin says:

What kind of team do you think we’ll field for the Emirates cup? I remember being really excited when LJ came on last year and ripped their right back apart.

I have high hopes for Ramsey. I know not everyone rates him, but I think he could realise his potential more than Theo.

  431. Rasputin says:

Haha raif – sounds like you’re describing Hangeland!!

I think he’s about 27 so presumably just reaching his peak. If we sign him for 5 years, his resale value won’t be great but perhaps his no nonsense approach to defending will have won us something by then 😛

  432. raif says:

    London / peachesgooner

    whos upset??

  433. peachesgooner says:

I can’t remember if Arsene uses the Emirates cup to field 2 sides like in all the other pre-season games…….I remember the first against Juve or was it Inter and Gibbs played as CF – that was 2 years ago 😀

  434. Rasputin says:

… that should have read “helped us win something by then”, he’s good, but he can’t win us trophies on his own 😆

  435. Rasputin says:

Yes, I hope he doesn’t go for extreme experimentation as he would never use those combinations when it comes to the crunch. It was interesting that JD played DM/sweeper earlier in the week.

  436. London says:

I cannot be more open than repost the comment myself. So to say that I am playing the innocent, I feel, yet again, wrongly accused. You are friends with them explain to me why that comment would offend someone?

  437. peachesgooner says:

    …….and so did Senderos 🙂

Of course we’ll all groan if Dudu has an injury from last night…..Arsene sounded very positive about him in his interview though

  438. peachesgooner says:

London – lets talkabout it tmoro can we please, maybe avenell will have something to say…….

  439. Rasputin says:

Its exciting that we’ve seen Nik develop a great understanding with Vela last pre-season and Dudu this time around. Its a bit like having Arshavin in the side – all of a sudden, Cesc had someone to play football with. I agree with all the optimism regarding the attacking potential of our midfield for this coming season. I think RVP likes to play deep and also Nik is not comfortable as a target man, so having a ‘Huntelaar type’ in the side makes sense. I don’t think it really worked playing Cesc so high up the pitch last season.

  440. London says:

Good Idea I have had enough of being wrongly accused for one night.

  441. peachesgooner says:

rasp – you’re right about not playing Cesc high up the pitch, I hope Arsene remembers 🙂

Do you think we’ll see Cesc at the weekend?

  442. Rasputin says:

I’d like to think so, but he may be rested after his exertions in that silly cup competition.

  443. peachesgooner says:

Morning JonJon – we have dreary dreary rain here in London – any news ……

  444. JonJon says:

    hi peaches…

    its drizzly here too 😦

    no news..same old…kolo gone…hangelaand in and eboue gone 🙂

  445. Cartman says:

    morning jonjon, peaches!
    any good news???

  446. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters and Roosters,

No new faces for the Emirates Cup then … still I live in hope 🙂

  447. rico says:

    Morning All

So then – all should be revealed today, and then the spending begins – oh what an interesting few days/weeks ahead 😉

  448. JonJon says:

    hey guys…

dont worry rasp..the new faces will be unvieled at the cup…they may not play buy they’l be there

    mmmmkay cartman.?? 😉

  449. JonJon says:

    rico yes…

    today and tomorrowww..

  450. Cartman says:

    hope ur right jonjon!

  451. rico says:

Hi JonJon – do you know if anyone has done a post for today ? I thought about writing one?

  452. JonJon says:

im fine thanks me old mucka….

  453. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

Its interesting that Arsene said he wanted to keep the team together and we may see 4 new signings – Vermaelen, Haaaaaalaaar – thats 2 and Matuidi……

We’re gonna have to start seeing the opposite in everything he says 😉

  454. peachesgooner says:

Hi rico – if you’ve got something to post then that would be great……

  455. JonJon says:

    i dunno rico…

nobody said anything yest..i think ave might have one

  456. peachesgooner says:

The team showed mental strength – they were all over the place

We passed the ball very well tonight – if only we could hold on to possesssion

This team have character – yet again we went a goal down and had to claw our way back

  457. Rasputin says:

It appears that there is renewed hope that the squad is going to be strengthened. It occurred to me that we mostly see the players that have been sold as a positive thing – financially and for the good of the club. That perspective would be turned on its head if the reason we sold the players was out of necessity because we needed the money to service the debt…… I don’t think that’s the case though and as you say, all will be revealed in the next two weeks.

  458. rico says:

I don’t know what to do now, no-one is in the widget

  459. Rasputin says:

Haha peaches…are you suggesting we have a tab for ‘Arsene’s terminology’ 🙂

  460. peachesgooner says:

rico – is your post ready?

  461. rico says:

Yes peaches, it is now 😛

  462. peachesgooner says:

Haha rasp….the only one I ever believe now is the one about playing with the ‘the hand-brake off’ 😉

  463. Rasputin says:

3 out of 6 say yes rico …. go for it …. we need refereshing 😉

  464. peachesgooner says:

So lets put it up – I’m sure ave would have put his name in the Widget if he had one… you need any help

  465. rico says:

    NEW POST 😛

  466. Rasputin says:

I get sick of commentators trotting out the old “I didn’t see it” Arsene line whenever they want to have a go at him. When you sit down at pitch level it is very difficult to see what is happening on the other side of the pitch, but unfortunately it looks like he’ll be stuck with that reputation …. I’m sure he cane live with it……
