Its Now or Never………….

Speculation is rife at the moment as to who maybe leaving as well if any additions are needed to our squad. There are countless rumours doing the rounds, but without actually berating our current players (for a moment)  let’s look back at the final table for last season.

Interestingly, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all scored exactly the same amount of goals, that is 68, but when one looks at the goals conceded it is a completely different story.

Manchester United and Chelsea both conceded 24 goals, Liverpool 27 and Arsenal 37. So that in itself shows where the real problem lies.

One can argue that we must have had the worst season for injuries for many a year and at some stage at the latter part of the season, our entire first choice back four were missing.

All teams that aim to win the league, must first and foremost have a dogged defence with a physical presence, which I feel is one of the most important foundations that is missing. It has been apparent now for a couple of seasons and hopefully Mr.Wenger will address this problem, otherwise the top four could well become the top three.

Our Manager gets things right more often than not, but with the unrealistic transfer figures being met by clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City, it is harder now than perhaps 6 years ago to find the right player at a price that equates to our funds available and a player who really wants to play for The Arsenal at the going rate. I don’t envy our manager, but nevertheless lessons have to be learnt from last season, that our squad in not big enough and some of the youth players are being paid extortionate amounts based on a gamble that they will become regulars in the next three years or so.

We have to act now, hopefully RVP is extending his contract this week and that both Eduardo and even Rosicky make at least a reasonable contribution to the coming season.

Remember the players are not a year older when this season starts, just a couple of months at the very most.

I still believe that overall we did better than I thought we would do at around the turn of the year, but I truly believe this coming season is the most defining one for Arsene in his tenure at the club.

    Its gnarley number 1

  2. peachesgooner says:

See I’ve already read it – dozens of times 😳

Good post kelsey – I agree with you that Arsene is going to have to hope his boys/men can get off to a good start and hopefully get their noses in front…….we want something to celebrate this season and he’ll be wanting the Champs Lge.

Most important though is that we must look like we’re challenging for the Premiership from the off…..

  3. peachesgooner says:

rico – I’m writing right next to your pig 🙂

  4. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Against the popular view that total football is 1st & foremost, I have been stressing the most important factor for a while now that defence is the real rock that a realistic challenge can be made for The Title from. & no one did it better than kelseys avatar IMO, when he set up his back 4.

  5. peachesgooner says:

Very true george, some of our defending last season from set-pieces was woeful……

Musn’t get back into negative thoughts though, hes bought Vermaelen who looks like a chunky hunk so hopefully we’ll be more assured at the back from now on……..

  6. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – if you’re still around you’ve joined the list of authors…….have a look

  7. Rasputin says:

    Morning Kelsey,

Good post. It looks like Gallas is going to see out his contract next season and who knows whether Kolo will stay or go. Having seeen the pics of TV yesterday, I assume he will very quickly become a 1st choice CB. If we sell Kolo we may well buy another defender, but if we only sell Phillipe, I doubt we will as it wil not be seen as a loss from the squad……

  8. rico01 says:

Spooky kelsey, this was an earlier comment i left on the previous post, so i have cheated and re-psoted

I just wish the club would get out there, get a strong, tall athletic midfielder who is good in the air and with his tackle 😳

A player who can break down the oppositions attack and defend well when needed, a gusty player who can make that last ditch tackle and help the defence – someone who can play his part in preventing us leaking goals – TV has come into the the defence, now lets get a midfielder to stop it getting to them …

Then we are in with a real good chance to get back to winning a trophy or two 🙂

  9. Rasputin says:

    Hi-de-hi rico,

I agree about the need for a midfield powerhouse – Matuidi dosen’t fit the bill IMO, but it is all academic as I’m sure any further acquisitions hinge on the sale of Ade and that is out of our hands 😦

  10. peachesgooner says:

Hi rasp – do citeh still want Kolo?

  11. peachesgooner says:

Its gonna be so boring waiting for someone to come in for Ade……..

  12. rico01 says:

We now have – Gallas, Kolo, JD, Senderos, Silvestre, TV – I really can’t see Arsene going for another defender with all of them in place

I wish he would sell who he has little faith in and get one ‘no nonsense’ defender..

peaches, my piggie has now moved 😉

  13. rico01 says:

    Ho-de-Ho Rasp 😛

  14. rico01 says:

Rasp – wikki says he is 5’9 another blog says he is 5’7 – either way, I agree he is far too short for a CM, we need a bulky stroner version of Diaby 😉

  15. peachesgooner says:

Its very strange all the papers are saying that we’re interested in signing Melo AND that hes been signed by Juve……. 😕 😕 😕

  16. peachesgooner says:

    …..maybe its just a cover-up 😉

  17. rico01 says:

Was that an Elvis song in 1960, the idea stolen from the 1940’s 😛

  18. peachesgooner says:

    😕 😕 😕 what rico…..I’m being dim give us a clue

  19. Rasputin says:

I always recall the ‘Just one Cornetto’ version 😉

  20. rico01 says:

Rasp – and I much prefer Cornetto’s too, especially the strawberry one’s – you can get the ‘Lidil version’
    6 for £1 🙂

    The heading peaches 😉

  21. rico01 says:

Do you think kelsey had the album given to him for his 21st birthday present 😳

  22. peachesgooner says:

    Duuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrr 🙂

rico – the strangest thing……the Smiley Library you emailed me, the smilies all disappear when I forward it….. 😕

  23. peachesgooner says:

Sorry, it has to the Chocolate Cornetto – I don’t do strawberry ice-cream yuuuuuuuk……IMO….

  24. rico01 says:

Oh no peaches – shall i try again? I know ave put them in a posted comment the other day, but it would be nice to have them as a widget (get me!) or somewhere nearby – is anyone trying to do that, i must admit I wouldnt have a clue how to magic its appearance 😉

  25. rico01 says:

I like the chocolate too peaches, have to always make sure it’s hazel nuts on top though otherwise i may meet an early exit from this world 😦

  26. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Isn’t evo an author as well, or with the Ashes on, seeing the big continent on here all the time would that be a bit intimidating, Chamoneeeeeeeee 😈

  27. peachesgooner says:

    Do you mean ‘not’ hazelnuts……

  28. peachesgooner says:

When evo wrote his post it got put up by avenell…..

  29. rico01 says:

I can eat hazel nuts peaches, Brazils, Walnuts and Almonds are the big no no for me – Almonds cause a big of a breathing problem and Brazils would finish me off 😦

Now dry roasted peanuts and cashews are ok, but make me wheeze a bit – how bizarre eh

  30. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I really think that Le Gaffer has assembled his quota of “narse boyz”, its time to get some “thugs” with skill @ the back & CDM to compliment them. & the good thing is Le Gaff seems to be attempting. Fear not all the Cup is on its way.

  31. rico01 says:

My father-in-law always threatened to buy me chocolate brazils for Christmas – I always thought he was joking – but in the last few months I have fallen out with him big time and he is no longer welcome in our home – maybe he was being serious after all 😉

  32. peachesgooner says:

My Hazel in my garden is full of nuts – but the sqirrels nick them before I get to them……..

I have to pop off for a while……

  33. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I love cashews. Its sort of like 1 is too many, then 100 is not enough, if you know what i mean 😛

  34. gnarleygeorge9 says:

We don’t have squirrels here, we have possums.

  35. rico01 says:

Going back to what you said on Melo peaches – Gilbet O’Silva told him to come to us, this Juve rumour could very well be a smoke screen and all in an attempt to get Stan and Ollie to sort the deal out asap – the latest is that Senderos and Eboue are to be offered in the deal – now how could Fiorentina resist such an offer 😉

  36. rico01 says:

    🙂 george

  37. Rasputin says:

    Morning GG,

We all agree we want a psycho/cultured/thug in midfield – who would be your choice?

  38. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Evening Ras, I’m still holding out on Melo. I just feel that the Gilberto push & Le Prof interest with a trade keeps this one going.

  39. Rasputin says:

One of the reports said that the deal has been done, but they’re all liars so maybe you’re right. I don’t want Inler at any price – he missed his chance last year….

  40. kelsey says:

Just got back from the first dentist, going back to the other one soon.

Glad you liked my post,as it turned to ice cream flavours somehow 😡

Elvis Presley recorder It’s Now or Never in 1960 from the original melody of O Sole Mio published in 1898.

Thanks rico, my 21st present 😉

  41. rico01 says:

    kelsey –

“It’s Now or Never” is a popular song recorded by Elvis Presley in 1960. The melody of the song is borrowed from the Italian standard, “‘O Sole Mio”, but the inspiration for it came from the song, “There’s No Tomorrow”, recorded by U.S. singer, Tony Martin, in 1949.

  42. rico01 says:

The other day it was all over the news that we were about to sign Melo, today its Fiorentina – I don’t think anything is sorted out yet, but hopefully today we will secure our man 😉

  43. kelsey says:

quite right, rico, by the way you should remove the edit next to each post as it gives personal information.

  44. peachesgooner says:

have you got ‘edit’ on your posts kelsey

  45. peachesgooner says:

have you always had it – maybe its there today because you are the author of the post – gives you power

  46. kelsey says:

yes, because i am the author.i may have some fun with the comments,a sort of scrabble.

  47. peachesgooner says:

You’d better behave or I’ll be removing your special treat…….. 🙂

  48. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Ok all. I’m off for the cricket. may the best team win, us.

  49. peachesgooner says:

Enjoy george – come and crow later 🙂

  50. Evo in Oz says:

    gday all

  51. Evo in Oz says:

so to Melo or not to Melo, that is the question?

  52. peachesgooner says:

Its a very strange one I think…… be in discussions with a club and for another club to swoop……….odd, very odd…….we’ll have to wait and see

  53. Evo in Oz says:

indeed peaches, lets wait and see, could be all smokescreens and mirrors on behalf of someone…

  54. Irishgunner says:

    Morning all,

So new contract for RvP then.

I kinda thought Arsenal were been used by Viola to push up the price of Melo so Juventus would buy, seems right. Not too pushed about him to be honest.

I managed to get through two hours of the MJ memorial last night with dry eyes – till they brought the kid on 😥

  55. Evo in Oz says:

gday irish, the red wine is going down here tonight! but no signing celebrations to be had, just the RVP extension. Although i am proud of that, i think he has matured and this will be the season now that we see 30 goals from him for sure!

  56. Irishgunner says:

    Hiya Evo,

Yep I’m very happy that RvP signed – its a good omen. AW just needs to get that tackling midfielder in and I reckon we are good to go.

So this ashes thing is starting soon – Will I have to pick a side 😉

  57. Evo in Oz says:

yep its already started tonight mate!

  58. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Nice post Kelsey. thanks mate.. good to see GG up in lights..

I haven’t got a lot of time at the min so I will be on for a chat laters on..

  59. Irishgunner says:

I wouldn’t be Irish if I didn’t go for Australia ha ha ha ha 😆

  60. London says:

    Morning Kelsey

Interesting post, although, there is a bit I am confused about. On one hand you acknowledge that the spiralling cost, paid by clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City, for players is putting us a financial disadvantage, but you then go on to criticise the club by saying:

“Some of the youth players are being paid extortionate amounts based on a gamble that they will become regulars in the next three years or so”

There seems to be a contradiction between these two views. If we can no longer compete in the transfer market as, you suggest, we used to six years ago, how do you expect us to ever have the next David Villa playing for Arsenal if we do not gamble and pay wages that attract the most exciting up and coming youth prospects, such as Ramsey, Wilshire and Lansbury?

  61. Irishgunner says:

I don’t really think Madrid are the problem as odd as it sounds – they only fork out the stupid money for the Kakas, the Ronaldos and Benzemas.

They paid a “proper” price for Albiol and have reportedly backed out of the bids for Alonso and Ribery.

The problem is perhaps City who offer decent but not World Class players like Barry and Bridge HUGE sums of money that Arsenal can’t compete with.

The likes of Kaka and Ronaldo are rare so they will command high fees but when the likes of Barry are getting so many million over 4 years based on above average skill there is your problem.

  62. Evo in Oz says:

thats True Irish, good support old son, good support mate!

  63. London says:

    Hello Irish

I fear that players such as Bridge and Barry are simply the next step towards inevitable success. This year Bridge and Barry next year Tevez and ??? The process is a mirror image of Chelsea.

  64. Irishgunner says:

    I a woman Evo 😉

  65. Irishgunner says:

    *I am a woman.

I am woman, me Jane you Tarzan 🙄 my grammar is dying a slow death.

  66. Irishgunner says:

    Agree with you there London.

City already have a pretty decent team even if they don’t buy anymore. Vincent Kompany is a decent player who seems to be frozen out there.

  67. London says:

I find it odd how Real Madrid seem to always push the boat out when it comes to paying for foreign players but when it comes to Spaniards they negotiate as meanly as if they were Arsenal.

  68. Irishgunner says:

    Yeah that’s true London.

They seemed to stop short on David Villa. Pulling up short on Xabi Alonso isn’t a major surprise because he isn’t really a “show-boater” and that’s what Real like.

I wonder is there a reason for it or is it coincidence? Hardly coincidence!

  69. avenell says:

London.. Do you think thay would pay a lot for Cesc.. he is Spanish but they would have to get him from another League…

    Coffee break BTW..

  70. avenell says:

Or if they tried to sign Torres..

  71. Irishgunner says:

Torres 😯 He’s from the other side of town

  72. Evo in Oz says:

Sorry Irish, im onto it now!

  73. London says:

I know a couple of Madreleños who are polite enough but no matter how hard they try they cannot hide the fact that being Real supporters they are Gods gift to football; so, when Florentino Perez comes along and does things that no other club in the world can do they love him for it.

I have just finished writing and have forgotten the point of it…probably jealousy.

  74. Irishgunner says:

“Arsenal fans have launched their own Michael Owen-style brochure in a send-up trying to sell striker Emmanuel Adebayor to any interested club.” – Gets a worse and worse idea by the day!

  75. avenell says:

Yeah I know he was captain.. and he does seem to have principles, but money talks and lowers them..

He was just an example really.. I was just wondering if London thought that Real barter harder with fellow Spanish clubs, because the attraction of Real is great.
But if a Spanish player has come over here perhaps the attraction is diluted because the player is more worldly..

Hi Irish by the way! 🙂

  76. Irishgunner says:

    Evo – Who is winning?

I have as much knowledge of cricket as I do of how to fly a space ship. Numerous people have tried to explain it to me and my face generally ends up looking like this 😕

  77. Rasputin says:

Hi Irish, London, ave, Evo – (good toss to win 🙂 )

  78. avenell says:

Irish… Adebayor was for sale on Ebay the other day too.. lol..

  79. avenell says:

Rasp.. It’s going to be a draw..

  80. Irishgunner says:

London – Since I was small I’ve hated Real Madrid, they always stood for what is wrong with football for me and that is its over commercialization.

Hi Avenell 🙂 – Raul was a Atletico boy

  81. kelsey says:

I understand your point, and perhaps it is the way I have written the article. For many reasons IMO we need extra experience as defensive cover now,and there is no guarantee that the players like Ramsey,Wilshere or Lansbury making it as first team players at Arsenal.Potential is there and at this moment of time nothing would please me more if these youngsters we develop make it,though our track record in recent years isn’t great.

Some would argue that Walcott, who has been at the club for three and a half years, has not improved sufficently to earn 60K a week.

It is a gamble. If Wenger is under no pressure from the board and wants to carry through this policy, then so be it, but we will fall behind the other clubs we are challenging at the moment, together with more money injection from other clubs besides the top 4.

it is nothing to do with not supporting the club, win or lose,it is just a finally balanced equation, which quite frankly,i don’t know the answer to,at this moment of time.

  82. Irishgunner says:

    Afternoon Rasputin 🙂

Avenell I saw that but do you not get the feeling that Arsenal fans will be a bit of a laughing stock if he is still with us next season and we cheer if he scores?

  83. avenell says:

Was he the one who played for Barca then Real bought him..

I don’t know much about foreign football 😦
Okay Rico.. I know, I just know.. 😉

  84. London says:

Good point Ave, I think they will be as mean as they possibly can. Fabregas being a Catalan represents everything they despise. I have difficulty imagining Cesc going there. The Madreleños may despise the Catalans but that doesn’t come anywhere close to how much the Catalans hate the Madreleños. By signing for Madrid every friend he ever had in his village just outside Barcelona would hate him. No, Cesc will wait until Xabi leaves Barça and then sadly it will be time for him to leave us and return home.

  85. Evo in Oz says:

So far Aussies on top – England 90-2 but the ball is moving all over the place and the top order look a bit shaking with their bat!

  86. Rasputin says:

ave – it will only be a draw if the rain intervenes – otherwise an England victory…. (although at 80 for 2 its not going that well, we need 400 on this pitch)

Irish – shame on you for supporting the aussies… and I thought we were friends 😆

  87. Irishgunner says:

Maybe I’m an odd one out but I’ve never felt AW has ever tried to prove he is a clever clogs and can win with kids. He is either unfortunate or has a terrible medical staff because we became overladen last season inparticular with crocks.

I think they may be too many kids per se in the squad now but is that through Wenger’s own doing or a lack of funds?

  88. Irishgunner says:

Avenell – Raul played for the Atletico Madrid junior sides but they shut down their youth academy and he went to Real.

Figo moved from Barca to Madrid so they threw a pig’s head at him – Nice!

  89. London says:

Did you mean that Fernando was an Athetico boy (of this there is no doubt his family are hard core) or did you really mean that Raul was an Athletico boy. I believe he used to play for Athletico before he signed for Real; now, of course, he is Mister Real.

  90. London says:

Ah Irish, I didn’t see that, question answered.

  91. avenell says:

I think Ade has already made us a laughing stock.. When he was linked to Chelsea the fans on a site caned the nuts out of him..

Normal people/fans can have a joke at themselves, I suppose it’s the English, British, and any Islands connected 😉 sense of humour..
The problem seems to be the fans from overseas who follow Arsenal on TV or through blogs, the players are there hero’s so they cannot accept a bad word against them..
If Ade does well he will win the fans back, but at first the cheers will be ironic no doubt..
But players will come and go.. it’s a clubs evolution..

  92. London says:

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply, your post is much clearer now.

  93. avenell says:

London.. did you catch my question to you?

    That’s the geezer Irish..

  94. Irishgunner says:

He played for the youth set up and his family were hardcore supporters but when the red and white side of Madrid had no academy he went to the white side.

Mr.Real now – apparently he has a contract that states if he starts 20 games a season he is automatically granted a one year contract extension.

  95. London says:

Yes Ave, I thought I answered it in my 12:47

  96. avenell says:

    Oh yeah you did sorry..

I was looking as to why Irish and Rasp were getting moderated,,

  97. Irishgunner says:

I thought it was funny myself to be honest Avenell but worry it may bite the fans in the arse.

Arsenal fans didn’t come off last season as having a rep as good fans.

  98. Irishgunner says:

Usmanov’s offer is reported to have been turned down as well.

  99. Rasputin says:

Unsurprisingly, Usamov’s Rights suggestion has been turned dowm….

“The Arsenal board has decided against a proposed rights issue to generate transfer funds and reduce the club’s debt, which was put forward and underwritten by Alisher Usmanov, the Gunners’ second biggest stakeholder.

The chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, confirmed the subject was given due consideration but has been turned down in favour of the status quo which sees the north London club remain self-financing.”

  100. Rasputin says:

Were we ever going to buy Melo unless we were positive money would be coming in from the sale of Ade? Maybe we’d been trying to stall the deal whilst engaging them in talks to give us time to sell him.

  101. Rasputin says:

Doh…. Irish…. one day I’ll get there before you 😡

  102. avenell says:

I think the press make a bigger issue of it than it really is.. The London clubs support is different from the rest of the country..

It’s like West Ham in the mid eighties they never sung.. it was cool to not sing just a few “ICF’s” and pretty much silence..

Arsenal get 60,000 a week turn up, you don’t pay the money that Arsenal want for admission without being a good supporter..

  103. Irishgunner says:

“Reports in France claim that Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira has been offered a two year deal by Lyon.”

Fantastic, this is our chance to nip in and get Toulalan 🙂

  104. Irishgunner says:

In all fairness Rasputin your post had more detail 😉

Avenell – Do you think the prices will come down in time or is that a wishful thought?

  105. Rasputin says:

Its all going tits up in the cricket – 90 for 3 at lunch 😦 We need our South African to put them to the sword……….

  106. avenell says:

Irish.. supply and demand I guess..

If football was to lose popularity and the fans didn’t turn up, TV deals were to be less lucerative, then yes.. But I cannot see it yet.. It cruised through this recession..

Blatter and Plattini could be the ones who could start to cause this crash imo.
Take away the free market, and English clubs have very little talent to choose from.. So the big boys will pay over the odds and the little clubs will die..
We won’t do as well in europe the poularity will spiral down..

Could be a good idea for a post that..

  107. avenell says:

Rasp.. don’t think I am being rude, but I haven’t watched cricket since the late 70’s. I didn’t even watch any of the last ashes series when we won..

I find it hard to get back into with all the colours and the no’s and the sponsership everywhere..
And this 20/20 stuff don’t seem right..

I prefer having a beer on the village green watching you lot tbh..

I have no probs with you and Rico and our Aussie chums having a chat..

  108. Evo in Oz says:

come on aussies, off to bed to watch it and fall asleep! 😉

  109. London says:

so long as we are winning

  110. Rasputin says:

OK ave …. no strimming and no cricket then ….. 😳

  111. avenell says:

I can talk strimming all day.. 🙂

It’s just the cricket.. I cannot debate about it as I know f’all.. perhaps the rivalry on here may get me back into it.. I will be looking out for the scores..

  112. avenell says:

    Has Geoff Arnold retired yet?

  113. avenell says:

London/Rasp what’s your views on the 6/5 rule whatever it is?

  114. London says:

“The Arsenal board meeting to decide on the proposed rights issue by Usmanov to generate transfer funds and reduce the club’s debt”

Terrible weather today chaps, hope it brightens up for the Ashes. Yes, certainly hope so. And that concludes the discussion on Mr Usmanov’s proposal. Motion denigned.

  115. avenell says:

I guess thet is linked to Kelsey’s post in a roundabout way.. Because Man City athough they had a good youth policy, they can now buy all the best English/homegrown talent.. Making the rich richer..

  116. avenell says:

London.. it’s sunny down here mate and we are sort of near Cardiff.. 🙂

  117. rico01 says:

ave – you and foreign football go together like

    spring and onions 😉

Can you please put my name in the widget for a post one day ave – it’s up to it’s usual standard, that is on a par with the opening three batsmen for England

South African Rasp – Thats funny 🙂

Off out for a while, and guess where…. The dentist for a little filing 😦

  118. Irishgunner says:

Forget cricket, y’all need to see a proper game 8)

  119. rico01 says:

ave we are safe with that ruling – so many of our overseas players fit within the rule.

One player I hope really steps up this season is Merida, I would use him when resting Cesc, I reckon he is going to be a real quality player… mme, now have you all heard me say that befoe 😉

  120. avenell says:

Rico.. I don’t think we are totally.. If Man City offered £30 million for Walcott, £30 for Wilshere etc or anyone who fits into that rule.. and they treble there wages.. Are you confident of hanging on to them?

  121. avenell says:

What day would you like Rico.. Friday?? that gives this post a couple of days..

  122. rico01 says:

For sure, Theo won’t go up there, he is a southern softie like myself, and LJ, why would a London boy want to go to Manchester, the OT Centre isn’t that good 😉

Re the post, just letting you know there is one, but any day next week will be fine, others have probably been waiting but if not there is one lurking 😉

  123. avenell says:

  139. JonJon says:

    onto the post…

    bloody good read kelsey…

’tis true amigo….this year has to be the year…no more pissing about…wenger has to do whats right for the club and not whats right for the players….

the players will come and go…the club will be around for years and years….as we always have….we owe them nothing and at the end of the day they work for the arsenal…. if they cant do their job then we replace them with someone who can….this is no longer an experiment or a development…

and i totally agree…they arent a year older or wiser.. thats a bloody good point and everytime i hear that i think christ… i wish id had thought of a reply like that…. 😉

  140. JonJon says:

    hi rico…

i just came across it and i pissed my pants…i had to share it with the guys

Don’t rate Ravi Boatperson much, its amazing how many runs that can be scored from edges. But, all in all, the game is in the balance IMO.

  144. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

having given myself some time to think, having bought Vermalen(sp) I believe it is a first time we have actually bought before selling, for some time, in the close season.

There is speculation, not mine, that any of Toure,Gallas,Eboue and Senderos(not surpringly Silvestre)could leave or be used in an exchange plus cash, and I think that our only other signings will happen if that is the case.

I omit Adebayor,as it is deathly quiet about any interest in him,so though not one of my all time favorites 😉 we may be stuck with him.His football ability may improve,in fact at 80K a week,if I was his manager I would like to see his talking rather on the pitch, and the man himself should take heed from what so many fans are saying.

  145. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Howdy Kelsey

Ade had better get his 30 goals a season boots on, coz Little Nicky 😈 is catching him up as far as value for the starting line up.

  146. London says:

    Morning Kelsey

As you know, when it comes to Adebayor I am not one of what you describe as “many fans”. The result of which often leaves me confused by comments like:

“the man himself should heed from what so many fans are saying”

Would you be kind enough to tell me what many fans are saying?

  147. rico01 says:

Morning all – off for a peep around the news 😉

george – your boys will be all out by tea today 😉 😉

  148. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

    ITS NOT RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to do some stuff outdoors…..back in a bit

  149. rico01 says:

So Bassong reckons we want to buy him ??

Citeh are going to pay mega bucks to Barca for Eto’ and Barca are then going to use the money to make a bid for Cesc

And pigs as they say, might fly 😉

  150. London says:

I’m starting to believe this Etoo going to City story. Barça will use the money to buy David Villa.

  151. kelsey says:

    Oh London Good Morning.

We will never agree about Adebayor.Maybe i should express myself in a different way.

I can’t give you an exact percentage, but apart from one particular channel(which we both know) I haven’t read anything positive in either the tabloids or by the media from football correspondents, who make a living by watching football.Maybe they are all wrong, and I am not even listing the numerous blog sites I read.

  152. rico01 says:

    Morning London,

Me too, I think Barca will take the money, they need to bolster their squad now the Real Madrid have made sunch big signings – I hope you are right in that they go for Villa, otherwise they are sure to come knocking for Cesc, and Barca is the one and only team I honestly think will turn his head, just hope its not for a few years yet.

    Morning kelsey

The longer time passes, the less I think that Ade will leave – Arsene has said he wants the squad to be all sorted and settled by pre-season, which I think is the 18th July. Both he and his agent have remained pretty quiet, maybe he has had a rollocking for Arsenal – I dont know..

Prior to the season ending, huge rumour was that Ade’s agent was told to find him a new club. If there is any truth in that rumour any day soon we could hear that he is being sold, just maybe though the deal will be kept away from the cameras and paps until its concrete.

But should he stay, as I said the other day, he will no doubt be one of the first names on the team sheet and should he score and continue to do so, then great for us all, but he he carries on where he left off last season, Arsene has to be strong and drop him..

  153. rico01 says:

    London – the flying piglets related to Bassong coming to us ;

  154. London says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the story that the club told Ade’s agent to find him a new club at the beginning of this transfer window was true. It is easy to imagine that the agent was acting in an arrogant way showing off to Ade that he could get him this deal and that deal with this big European club or that big European club; and yet, as most of us have always thought — nobody wants him. My guess is that this reality has had a very sobering effect, hence the deafening silence from team Adebayor.
My guess is that he will be with us next season, hopefully with a new sense of reality after realising that he is not wanted throughout the world as his agent led him to believe; and, as a result, I expect him to buckle down and start putting in the effort.

  155. London says:

    Morning rico

Absolutely, flying piglets with Bassong face masks on them.

I fully expect Wenger to be tough with Adebayor this coming season. I just don’t buy into the idea that Wenger is pressured into selecting a player because of the wages that he earns. Wenger is not that shallow.

  156. rico01 says:

London – if he does just that and does what he gets paid for, I wont complain – but should he go and we get a 25 goal a season forward, I wont complain either 😉 Win win 🙂

  157. London says:

    That’s our neighbours.

Can a club be more bitter, jealous and twisted?

  158. London says:

That’s how I view it Rico

  159. rico01 says:

I think its funny London, good luck to the kid though, he will need it 😉

  160. rico01 says:

What do make of the Bassong rumour London, its everywhere this morning – it’s definately an Arsene type of signing

  161. London says:

I have just had a look at NN; I can see what you mean, the Bassong thing is everywhere. I agree, he is a Wenger type signing. Someone made a good point on another channel: Bassong has been surrounded by such mediocre players at Newcastle it is not really surprising that he hasn’t had a chance to shine as much as he possibly could, not to mention the handicap of a whole bunch of crap managers.

  162. London says:

I am happy for us to strengthen the squad in any way we can. The more players the better, bring them on.

  163. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..Rico/London..

London.. Do you still include me in the theory that fans think that Arsene will select Ade just because of his wages..

Without going into great depth.. I believe Arsene made a judgement last summer to keep Ade at all costs, so Arsenal pushed the boat out and gave him top monies..

Therefore for Arsene to just dump him on the bench will undermine that decision, so he will persevere with him more than a player who has not been awarded such a rise..

It is not as straight forward as he is on top wages, so he won’t sit on the bench.

  164. rico01 says:

London – he has to be better than Silvestre 😛

Morning Ave – the only way Ade will not be sat on the bench is if plays his heart out, stays offside and scores goals – if he does that he deserves to be one of the first on the team sheet.

But I don’t think our manager is best pleased with him, and for once I feel he will have no problem in dumping him on the bench 🙂

Like most of you Arsene bigs up Nik, so if he has doubts about Ade, he should put his money where his mouth is 🙂

What I think is really important is Arshavin plays the striker, not the midfielder, give that to Thomas 😛

  165. avenell says:

I watched Arsenal TV last night and the greatest goals were on.. Arshavins 3rd at Liverpool was voted ahead of Mickey’s winner at Anfield.. and Charlies..

Seems to say a lot about our support, but I guess we all guilty, I don’t know much about Arsnal Pre 68′, but then again there is not much in the TV archives to investigate that period and before..

  166. rico01 says:

crazy that isn’t it – Mickey’s goal was all about what it meant as well as a good goal in its own right..

where is Rasp, I miss his view on how we are doing in the cricket 😦

  167. avenell says:

What do you reckon about your beloved Corrie giving way to Champions League on a Wednesday night?

Re Raspno.. dunno he ain’t here..

  168. rico01 says:

It will be a double dose on another day ave, so I dont mind, however I am not sure about the other house members 😉

  169. rico01 says:

ave – what were you on about yesterday evening, i never did get what you were on about 😉

  170. avenell says:

They were all connected to a phone call..
    ie.. yellow pages JR Hartley..
    ‘ology, Maureen Lipman BT ad
and Who wants to be a millionaire .. Phone a friend.. 🙂

  171. rico01 says:

Thankfully then ave, I didn’t lose sleep over that one 🙂

  172. avenell says:

On a more serious note the press are really pissing me off today..

How can they turn the story that Usmanov is willing to lend Arsenal £100 million if we think we cannot compete in the transfer market if we need it… into Usmanov says Arsenal cannot compete in the transfer market coz we are skint.. full stop.

Am I reading the situation wrong?

  173. rico01 says:

I ignored that after reading ave, the press will use anything to put us down – for me it says the opposite, the board don’t need his money as they have enough for what they are planning to do – next ten days will prove what we are all about imho

  174. rico01 says:

Or not as the case may turn out to be 😉

  175. Rasputin says:

Hi Roadsters – nice to be missed 😛

Cricket…. I was 24 NO last night = 6 innings only out once!!

Re: England, we nearly cocked it up but the tail wagged sufficiently to make it a decent score…. Just watch Ponting get a century now 😦

Re: Bassong he isn’t any better than what we already have

Re: Ade / London…. If he stays, I’ll give him my total support during the season but will tear him to shreds next summer if he doesn’t get 25 goals and halve his offsides 👿

  176. rico01 says:

    Ho-de-ho Rasp 🙂

Not a bad score in the end, even old Monty got a few 😉

Few dodgy LBW’s not given – hope the rules stay the same now the Aussies are batting, they had a few bad calls in 05 – just hope its even..

24 last night eh, good on you, that score must be a third your age Rasp 😛

Quite tempted to ignore ave, and pop a new post up 🙄

  177. Rasputin says:

    Hi Rico…. It’s Tom Tom Go…then ….. 🙂

  178. avenell says:

Rico… as I say to ‘er indoors..

Do what you like you normally do.. 🙂

  179. rico01 says:

    Thank you boss, I have….

There’s a new one up guys and gals
