The summer rebuild..A fans perspective..Midfield

Before I start this post I’d like to say this was a hard one…At first I thought it was going to be the easiest aspect of our team to discuss but when it came to it I found myself writing things down and coming to a dead end time and time again….After 3 attempts of trying to write a post everyone could understand and not just me, I ended up scrapping every one of them and left scratching my head…I’ll be honest..this is the first time its happened to me..when I write a post it normally comes straight out of my head and on to the draft and after a few tweaks here and there its ready in 30 minutes…but no, not this one…

So I took some time out and gave ‘me old mate’ Avenell a ring to see how he was…after a couple of hours putting Arsenal to rights, I was left with a huge light bulb above my head glowing brightly…So credit must go to the main man for this one…he was my inspiration…

Let me start by elaborating on what I meant when I said this was a hard one….

The Arsenal midfield was decimated last season due to injuries to key players, and departures in the close season of other key players….the midfielders who had the most appearances this season were;

Denilson..51 appearances

Song..48 appearances

Nasri..44 appearances

Eboue..44 appearances

Diaby…36 appearances

Theo..35 appearances

Cesc…33 appearances

Now, I don’t count Eboue as a midfielder and the same can be said for Diaby…Both these players can be sold. So that leaves the rest…and Cesc is the oldest!!!!!!! He’s still a young man…the oldest midfielder in our team last season was 22…and he was out for three months!!!!! Although I would like to rip the midfield to bits for some of the performances this season, I simply can’t…they don’t deserve it…

We weren’t good enough in midfield….but its not their fault so I wont be castrating them….

Unlike the defence…which I said yesterday was top drawer on paper…the midfield isn’t….when you see a midfield of Nasri, Cesc, Denilson/Song, Walcott…. you just see inexperience….players who are still learning…but these players need someone to learn from…learning for themselves just leads to mistakes…

Something else i’ve also noticed is a severe lack of balance…by that I mean

1…we have no left footers

2…we are top heavy with playmakers and attacking mids….. we don’t have enough mids who can defend as well as attack and its fair to say this coincides with the fact our defence has looked weak at times this season…

If we take a look at our first team midfielders for next season we have;

Cesc, Nasri, Denilson, Rosicky, Arshavin, Diaby, Walcott, Song

They are all either playmakers or attack minded..except for Song…this is what I mean by unbalanced…there’s nothing wrong with having a midfield full of playmakers and attackers, but they have to be good enough to keep the ball…so they don’t have to defend as much…Diaby, Nasri, Denilson, Song, Walcott aren’t good enough to do that yet…In Diaby’s case..never will be…

I don’t class Eboue as a midfielder…Ramsey and Jacky aren’t in there either because I don’t feel they are ready yet…they are banging on the door but they are not the answer nor the missing pieces in the midfield jigsaw…so who is??? Where do we improve????

I feel the wide areas are well covered…something we missed from the start of the season and in another players case, all season, were Arshavin and Rosicky…and in Nasri and Theo we have good cover so I feel we don’t need anybody else coming in…although I’d like to see another left footed wide player…but I don’t see it as a priority…unless Rosicky is never coming back….

What I do see as a priority is the central midfield…Cesc has to start….Cesc is one of the best players in the world…his reading of the game and passing is second to none…he might not have had a great season but that’s because without Rosicky and Arshavin he had nobody in the midfield to play with…Cescs game is all about pass and move and pull the opposition all over the place but it didn’t work with the likes of Denilson et al because they aren’t of the same standard…they don’t see the game the way players like Cesc, Rosicky and Arshavin do so Cesc was being left to do all the work for long periods of the season…and he isn’t that type of player…When Song and Denilson were the mainstay of our midfield they did well, but you could see the lack of creativity in the team…alot of sideways and backwards passing….it meant teams could park the bus and make it look easy…

I’d like to also add I don’t want to see Cesc being played out of position next season either…that didn’t help matters…

So basically we are looking for a partner for Cesc…this could be one of two type of player…either we get a midfield enforcer who can defend or we get another player similar to Cesc who can pass and move and we defend by keeping the ball….

The choice for the enforcer for alot of Gooners would be Yaya….he’s done the job playing alongside a pygmy midfield at Barca…so he could do the job for us…he can also play CB…so between him and Song we have our enforcers…

The choice for the possession player would be Alonso…he’s a proven winner on the international and domestic stage and he is perfect for Cesc to play with…Cesc and Alonso would run rings round any midfield in the world…and more importantly…they will keep the ball….possession football relieves your defence…I don’t see any team scoring when they are stuck defending in their own half for 70% of the game….

So Alonso would be my choice….

The only problem is with these players is availability and price….if for either of these reasons we cant get one of these players then my choice would be Veloso…

He’s slightly older than Cesc but he has won medals in Portugal and has played CL football…he’s the best player in the Sporting side and above all else he has a sweet left foot…and I’d like to see the right foot left foot combo in midfield we used to have with Manny and Paddy…

So…next season the 1st choice midfield could be; Rosicky, Cesc, Yaya/Alonso/Veloso, Arshavin

Possession football would return…Wenger ball would be back…We would see plenty of passing plenty of interchanging and plenty of goals, which had been missing from the midfield…and when you look at that midfield it’s hard to find a weakness….

With a backup choice of; Walcott, Denilson, Song, Nasri…which basically has time on their side and still managed to get us to 4th in the league and 4th in Europe…

Looks a bit tasty that doesn’t it????

    Excellent post JonJon/ave,

My last comment was lost on the previous post – but if your response was correct and AW was flirting with Real to wake the Board up and get some much needed transfer funds and not solely because he didn’t like criticism from the fans, then it looks like he agrees with your assessment.

We’ve spoken before so you know my 1,2, would also be Alonso, Veloso … I just hope we don’t get Buggerallso 😉

  2. JonJon says:

i really think wengers hands were tied last year rasp…if you look at the losses we endured…wenger must of known he needed more…

well, he did becuase he went for alonso…but we missed out because of a few quid…

ive mentioned before i think most of wengers time and transfer kitty was spent on Ades new contract…thats what wenger meant when he said ade unsettled and de-stablised the team…leaving wenger with not that many options but to go with youth and see what happened….

its up to ivan and kroenke to help wenger this summer…

i think wenger was giving them a push in the right direction…

  3. Rasputin says:

    I agree JonJon,

Even though its very frustrating to be kept in the dark, if we want the best outcome for the club, we have to accept that there will be no official line on transfer budget or possible targets. Its always been the Arsenal way, but in these times of super-rich clubs its the only option if we want to be successful and sign players.

I’ve heard differing reasons for why we failed to get Alonso – I thought it was dependent on Barry going to ‘pool. If it was just down to a ‘few quid’, then that has to be one of the biggest mistakes we’ve ever made

  4. JonJon says:

does any one think we need another wideman??? not a winger as such but somebody like AA or rosicky??? which would allow AA to play uptop???

i dont see walcott as a winger and id like to see AA play in the hole leaving us with nasri and rosicky…is that enough??

  5. Rasputin says:

Marc Overmars V2 would be good 😆

  6. London says:

Excellent post Jonjon…..30 minutes, you have no idea how jealous I am, I labour over mine for hours.

I would like to comment on Veloso but I don’t know much about him do you have a decent youtube link?

My guess is that Wenger will have to wait to see what Chelsea, Man City etc do and then pick up the bargains and I am convinced that there are going to be more than usual this summer.

Madrid are going to have to have a midfield clear out and they have the gem Mahamadou Diarra, tall, powerful DM experienced 28, can score goals; he was the other half of the dynamic Lyon midfield with Essien. The downside is we loose him to the ACN and he is just coming back from knee surgery.

  7. Rasputin says:

He’s a very good player London, but as you’ve just said, we’d lose him him for the ACN and do we want to gamble on another potential crock?

  8. JonJon says:

ive always thought it was the other way round regarding the barry alonso saga rasp…

benitez wanted barry…he made that public…but they spent their kitty on the irish bloke whos had more clubs than hot dinners…

so pool needed to raise the cash and they were offering alonso to anyone who’d take him….

if we’d of gave them the money for alonso they wanted when they wanted it….they would of been able to get barry…

but like always we left it too late and tried to save a few pennies…with the money we offered and with it being on the last day of the window…it left pool with no chance to get barry…so they didnt sell…why would they sell???

abit less time wasting and a few quid more and we would of got one of the best mids in the PL and pool could of got barry…

the deal was there to be done and we fucked it…

  9. Rasputin says:

You may well be right JonJon … if we had got Alonso, we wouldn’t have lost Cesc for 3 months … still that’s the beauty of hindsight.

I do get the feeling that we are being proactive in the transfer market, but whilst agents want to maximise their profit, they are unlikely to let good players sign until the ‘big clubs’ have had a chance to bid.

  10. JonJon says:

the thing with knee injuries is that you never know what the future of the players going to be…i know the medical attention they get is second to none but alot of players arent the same after a bad knee injury…

its what stopped me from turning pro when i was 15…once the knees damaged it can be difficult to be the same player…

i’ll try and find you the link for veloso London…i posted one on here a few days ago…i’ll dig it out for you mate…

as for the madird clear out…i’d take sneijder…maybe robben…but robbens another reyes…good player but one kick and hes crying…

  11. JonJon says:

    your right rasp…

in a day of the greedy agents in football…we are always going to struggle as we work within our means…

with all the other clubs throwing silly money at players it leaves us in a difficult position…at the moment anyway…

wenger needs to be more shrewd than ever…but every other team has followed wengers scouting network and its even harder to find a gem for the right price….

  12. JonJon says:

    here you go london

  13. London says:

There is of course the danger of signing someone that has just had surgery but it seems to me that in our day and age surgery is so common that if we held that as a yard stick as to whether to sign a player or not we would have a thinner squad than we do at the present.

I think due to Rosicky, we as Arsenal supporters have become over cautious about the possibility of injuries. Clichy was out for the best part of a season and returned as did RVP, I could go on as I am sure you are aware the list is quite long.

Rosicky is a one off; his injury was so rare that a whole raft of specialists that he visited didn’t pick it up. This player’s misfortune has given rise to the use of the “C” word, I despair when I read it.

  14. Rasputin says:

Here’s us talking about midfielders/wingers and NN has this….

“It seems that Arsene Wenger is going to carry out the promise he gave at the shareholders meeting that he will go into the transfer market to strengthen the team.

But this latest news about an interest in Bosnian hit man Dzeko seems to be an attempt to maintain the team’s strength rather than add to it.

As the bid appears to be serious (according to Dzeko’s agent, Irfan Redžepagić) one conclusion that can be drawn is that Adabayor looks like a goner to pastures new.

He is a player who, like some other outward Wenger transfers, should have walked at least a year before. Let’s just hope that Arsenal get the same money for him that were offered then (25m).

According to the agent, Dzeko will have to consider Arsenal’s interest seriously much more than Manchester city’s!

“It is not realistic for Dzeko who is a leading player in Germany and due to perform in the Champions League to opt for an average club like Manchester City. Arsenal is the other case. We will discuss their offer seriously” Redžepagić said while in Germany.

So there you have it. Wenger’s interest is genuine and according to other reports it is Boro Primorac who has been running the rule over Dzeko over the last year.

    Hhhhmmmmmm …. I wonder……. Naaaaaa

  15. London says:

Jonjon, Veloso, left footed, I like that. Is he attacking midfield or defensive?

  16. JonJon says:

    thats true london..

wenger has picked up some bargains on the basis on injury..Overmars???

occording to all the reports on newsnow rasp. wengers interest is always geniune.. 🙂

  17. Rasputin says:

I loved Overmars. Apart from the raking runs down the wing that had you jumping out of your seat, he always kept his shots, low, hard and on target – they seldom ended up in row ZZ 🙂

  18. JonJon says:

    london…he’s both…

    he’s a more technical flamini…who can shoot…

and he can play in the defence and LB…

he’s been wanting out of sporting for a while now…hes won titles with them and he wants to play on a bigger stage…they wanted over 20mil for him a few seasons ago but he’s only a year older than cesc so there was no takers…so he’s letting his contract run down…which is why he has been getting death threats from the fans….and were supposed to have the worst fans in the world???

i think its up next summer so theres a chance…

  19. JonJon says:

    unlike his fellow dutchman!!! 😉

  20. JonJon says:

    changing the subject a little..

how can holland beat england in the cricket???

i know freak results happen but thats just an embarrasment

  21. Rasputin says:

It is a total embarrassment JonJon…. the Aussie’s must be quaking in their boots leading up to the Ashes now. It’s not the sort of ammunition you want to give the best’sledgers’ in the world…..

  22. JonJon says:

    i watched the game rasp…

    our openers did really well..

then the rest of the team were crap..the fielding was terrible…..

so many times we had them and we bottled it every time…and we are supposed to be the experience cricketers…

    fair play to holland…they werent scared…we were…

  23. Irishgunner says:

    Good post guys.

For midfield I’d have Rosicky, Cesc, New Signing and New Signing.

Eboue and Song to be used as defensive cover and Arshavin to be pushed up top as a SS. Nasri isn’t quite ready yet despite his good year, I think in time to come he can become a top player but in the middle like he used to L’OM.

London – in reference to the loyalty question.

In a perfect world loyalty would still exist and players would realise that just because you get an extra £20k a week from some club wouldn’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things but everyone can be bought and loyalty seems a bygone word.

Gerrard would have moved to Chelsea had Liverpool not won the CL and a few gangsters turned up on his doorstop.

Loyalty is also a two way street. Maldini has been one of the most loyal players to have graced football and some Milan fans all but spat in his face in his last game after two decades of service – why should he have bothered?

The same could be said of some Arsenal fans. All too this season Arsene Wenger has been treated in an awful fashion by some sections.

  24. Irishgunner says:

    *All too often this season

  25. avenell says:

    Afternoon Roadsters..

Jonjon.. I’m still looking for the bit I inspired in the post.. Which was good by the way..

    Hi Irish..

I like Nasri, but we have introduced him into the team the wrong way around.
He should have had less games in his first season, letting him settle in slowly.. Now we have had what is hopfully his worst season for us out of the way, we may as well keep him in now.
What I still don’t understand is why Fabregas was used behind the striker in a 4-5-1. We have Arshavin, Nasri, Bendtner, Rosicky (next year), Diaby (useless anywhere else) RvP, etc.
But the one position (Midfield playmaker) that we really only have one player who is capable.. Arsene moves him.
I can only think it was to accomodate Song and denilson, but to me that is then 2 players doing one players job..

  26. Irishgunner says:

” I can only think it was to accomodate Song and denilson, but to me that is then 2 players doing one players job..” – I think that is because AW realised that they couldn’t do it individually, well not yet anyway.

  27. avenell says:

What that seems to do is then compress the play into the opponents half, without the players able to penetrate the opposition defence.. Swapping a striking position for a defensive sideways passer.

We also need to defend from the front like Tevez and Rooney did for United, when Ade doesn’t pick up a man at the front the rest of the team are always left chasing shadows..

  28. JonJon says:

    hi guys…

irish..i agree with that…i’d love to see a left footed wideman and AA pushed up top with maybe bendtner or dudu…

but if it didnt happen i dont think it will affect us too much..the central area is more important… was when we were talking about cesc and wengerball and non rigid formations… 😉

even if AW wanted both denilson and song ‘holding’
why push cesc so far up???

why didnt he play cesc in the middle of them both and play two attacking players behind the lone striker..with the FB’s acting as wingers…

surely that would of been better for the team???

a sort of 2521 formation… the fb’s act as wingers anyway and with the two holding players the defence would of been well protected…cesc
keeps his position and our threat is still there…

playing cesc in the role he played was rather silly…it totally takes him out of the game…cesc likes to play with the whole pitch…you give him the final third alone and your taking a third of his game away…

  29. avenell says:

The problem with 2 DM’s is they don’t have a lot to do and wander up the field to indulge in sideways passing.. then when the opposition breaks Song isn’t fast enough to get back and denilson doesn’t bother.. like when he got overtaken by the 35 year old Giggs the other day..

  30. Irishgunner says:

Barcelona do that to great effect, Messi, Eto’o and Henry all take it in turns or do it as a trio to shut down from the front.

  31. JonJon says:

    yeah agree about ade…

he may think he doesnt need to work and his job is to score but he needs to defend from the front…

henry used to…there would be times when henry would just stroll around waiting for the ball…but if the team were under the kosh for a period you’d see henry break into a burst of pace and chase the ball everywhere it went…he’d run upto 80/90 yards sometime just chasing the ball…and although he didnt always win it..he stopped the opposition from organising an meaningful attack…

ade just wants the ball…he needs to do more without it…

  32. JonJon says:

thats one thing that annoys me about denilson…everyone raves on about his stats and how it makes him the best DM in the league…

but when you watch him play he never tracks back…

hes good when the opposition is in front of him…but when hes behind the play he gets left behind…he either chases the wrong man or just doesnt bother and gives up…

who ever heard of a DM that gave up???

  33. JonJon says:

    indulge in sideways passing.

hit the nail on the head…

  34. avenell says:

Also when a striker tracks back.. like Henry (now and again) it gives the rest of the team a kick up the arse that it needs sometimes.. like you said the other day like winning a tackle, how many times did Flamini win tackles that got the rest of the team up for it? and the crowd..
I cannot say I have ever seen Song or Denilson have that effect..

  35. JonJon says:

    i love a tackle ave…a good crunching one…it just lifts everyone….

  36. Irishgunner says:

Not Arsenal but when Ireland played Holland at Lansdowne for the WC2002 qualifiers, Roy Keane may a crunching tackle within three minutes of play and it set us up for the day – got the crowd and team up for the game and we won 1-0.

  37. JonJon says:

exactley…tackle hard…tacklings an art…its part of the game as much as shooting, passing etc…

we need to be a little bit tougher….

a beauty of wengers teams of the past were that we’d either play you off the park or we’d kick you off it…

the red cards tolled up over the years and the media led a witch hunt against us for it…

i think sub conciously wengers tried to move away from thatto prove a point…but fuck the media i say…lets go back to that…

50+ red cards in a 13 year span is nothing…

can anyone find out how many red cards fergies had under his reign…it would be interesting..

  38. avenell says:

The stats would be a bit misleading.. A lot of Arsenals sending offs were for retaliation where the refs never protected the foreign players..
As soon as Vieira stepped out of line it was a booking or a straight red..

  39. Irishgunner says:

    Great point.

Whenever someone gets sent off for us the media wheel out “And that’s X amount of red cards for Arsenal since Arsene Wenger took over”.

Never hear that for the Mancs – the ref is usually “harsh” FFS.

  40. JonJon says:

i loved it when vieira would carry on… 😉

  41. avenell says:

Do you remeber the game against the Mancs in about 02 when Man U came out and kicked hell out of us.. Gary Neville followed through on one tackle and put his studs into one of our players chest?.. cannot remember who on.. The first challenge we done we got a yellow..

  42. Irishgunner says:

We still get yellows for nothing these days.

Like against Liverpool at the Emirates – Lucas must have committed 10niggly tackles and only got a yellow in injury time, Adebayor makes two fouls and is sent off.

  43. JonJon says:

ahhh yes the battle against the mancs in those days was great..pizzagate had nothing on those times…

it was a shame about reyes…he was a good player but that prick neville spent all game kicking the shit out of him and the ref did nothing…

its going back to the foreigners are picked on in the english game…it was really bad still is now in a way…remember the stoke game???

it was alright for them to kick the shit out of us and MOTD was telling the whole world we were soft and the best way to beat us is to kick us…and then when we played the dippers and ade got sent off for a semi-studs up challenge we were branded a set of dirty gits…

  44. JonJon says:

    LOL irish…

  45. avenell says:

That was when he was arguably shielding the ball wasn’t it?

Compare that to Rooney, even if you take away the foul language he gets away with murder..
Then when the referee has a quiet word to calm him down.. “it’s great refereeing”..

and you cannot blame him for being frustrated playing him out of position on the wing.. lol.

He will seriously hurt another player one day..

  46. avenell says:

And it was Eduardo’s fault his leg got broke.. he was too quick..

  47. Irishgunner says:

The best one yet was Evra:

    “Arsenal are kids”

    Next week:

“The ref didn’t protect me from the Arsenal players who kept at me”

    😆 ponce

  48. Irishgunner says:

    Wenger is in China 😕

No fear that he is reading any blogs so.,19528,11670_5366661,00.html

  49. JonJon says:

is that the same evra that was comlaing about fabregas kicking him and it wasnt fair….

    boo fucking hoo

the same evra was saying if he ever saw cesc in the street it would be different and the same evra that was fighting with chelsea stewards in a warm down sesh..

  50. Irishgunner says:

Wonder why Evra never got pulled up for making those comments?

Agh, yes he plays for the Mancs.

  51. JonJon says:

    and yes rooneys a danger…

but hes english and hes only young so its ok…

we’ll see what the media says if he ends up breaking gerrards leg..

  52. Irishgunner says:

Is the England game on ITV today?? I might watch it before Ireland’s one.

  53. avenell says:

    It’s on setanta over here..

  54. JonJon says:

im nipping out for a bit i’ll catch up with you guys later..

  55. Irishgunner says:

I don’t have sellotanta – I’ll check the ITV website might be a good idea haha

  56. avenell says:

I think it’s home games ITV, away games Setanta..

  57. avenell says:

France have Turkey on Eurosport, I might watch that..

    C’mon Evra..maybe not..

  58. Irishgunner says:

Yep its not on ITV, just have to wait for 6:30 and Ireland so

  59. kelsey says:

    Wenger in China, Blimey.
Is he watching that defensive midfielder Lee Song Chong otherwise known as takeaway No:37

  60. kelsey says:

  61. Irishgunner says:

    Hi Kelsey 🙂

  62. kelsey says:

i am testing as i am still finding it hard to get on

  63. avenell says:

Hi Kelsey.. are your comments coming straight on today?

  64. peachesgooner says:

ave – I’ve let kelsey out three times can you have another look behind the scenes – I can’t see why hes going into spam

  65. avenell says:

    Haha.. Sidekick we are..

  66. avenell says:

Hi Peaches.. There is nothing in there against Kelsey..

just a few swear words, racist words and what we mustn’t talk about.. lol..

  67. kelsey says:

24 hours always in spam, can’t really communicate this way.

  68. peachesgooner says:

ave – is there a help-line you can contact – there must be a reason why hes going into spam……..

  69. Irishgunner says:

Is it something to do with his IP or something or security settings?

  70. avenell says:

Peaches.. I don’t know.. I have tweaked a setting but I doubt if that’s the solution..

Irish.. they are only a few words that we have put in that we don’t want to hear in the moderation bit.. and Kelsey isn’t using any of those..

The bit I don’t understand is, if we blocked anything it would go into moderation not spam..

I am looking on the net.. there is some more advanced spam filters..

  71. Irishgunner says:

Do wordpress have anyone you could e-mail to find out?

  72. peachesgooner says:

I went into help and searched ‘blogger in spam’ that came up with nothing……….

  73. Irishgunner says:

Well that’s not very helpful is it???

Seems to be a strange one 😕

  74. peachesgooner says:

Poor kelsey, every time he wants to blog he has to call one of us from Spain to put his comments on 😦

How are you today Irish – are your boys playing footie today?

  75. kelsey says:

i think wordpress think i am a criminal on the run living in the costa del sol and they are looking for any coded messages.

  76. peachesgooner says:

Now I’ve finished being the good fairy I can read JonJons post 🙂

  77. Irishgunner says:

    They are indeed Peaches.

6:30pm against Bulgaria in Sofia, we beat them and its virtually us against the Italians for the top spot.

Actually, the Irish were training all week at London Coloney.

  78. avenell says:

This is the spam filter we use and it says it will learn if we keep approving the comments..

  79. Irishgunner says:

Oops I must have a banned word there 😳

  80. kelsey says:

i am the only person who pays a euro a minute to blog on here, can i have free advertising rights for my companies.

  81. Irishgunner says:

You pay a euro a minute?

  82. avenell says:

Irish are you using Kelsey’s computer? .. you have joined him in spam lol..

  83. peachesgooner says:

    Did you do that ave?

  84. Irishgunner says:

    Agh nuts,

It must be because we are in the €uro zone Kelsey 😉

  85. peachesgooner says:

One of the young boys I know at one of the nurseries has just got a job at London Colney maintaining the grass – I offered to carry his fork for him for a morning – he thought I was nuts……hes a spud too 🙂

  86. Irishgunner says:

😆 Tell him I’ll push the wheelbarrow

  87. peachesgooner says:

JonJon – great post. Everything hinges on the
mid-field – the defence and the attack, if you’ve got mid-fielders that can score goals and defend when needed then you have a team.

I don’t think that for most games this season we actually had a team playing for us. It must have broken Arsenes heart sometimes…….

You’re absolutely right that someone to play alongside Cesc – a like minded player – is crucial to our future.

  88. avenell says:

I have contacted the spam blocking site and sent this message..

I have a regular commenter who always goes into spam. His IP address is not on any list for him to be moderated and he is not using any banned words.. can you help please?

I will let you know what happens…

    I am trying Kelsey..:)

  89. peachesgooner says:

How amazing would that job be – he sees the players everyday, eats lunch in the canteen with them…..

Irish – d’you want me to give you a crash course in turf maintenance?

  90. Irishgunner says:

I think I’d need more that a crash course 😆

My thoughts: Grass grows, cut grass, grass grows again and repeat 😀

  91. peachesgooner says:

Its much more complicated than that – you have compaction and drainage and repair and weed control and feeding……..not to mention DIVOTS 😛

  92. Irishgunner says:

I’ll tell my dad to hire you for a week – you can sort out our lawn 😉

Although I think it looks nice 🙂 It gets plenty water anyway

  93. peachesgooner says:

Lawns are a man thing – its something they can control so they learn how to do it – me, I’m a plant kind of girl, I’m quite happy for my grass to look like rubbish as long as the rest all looks fab.

    Selective sight its called 😆

  94. Irishgunner says:

We have plants and flowers and tress and all that kind of carry on but its not really my cup of tea, I like looking at them but that’s about it.

  95. peachesgooner says:

The Times have this wonderful chap called Daniel Finkelstein who writes a footbal article at the weekend called The Fink Tank. He works with a team of statisticions (spelling) to produce some amazing facts and figures about football games.

I’ve just read that Portugal – they with the Winker in their team – have only a 20% chance of reaching the World Cup finals. They have a 55% chance of beating Albania and if they don’t win they could be on their way out. Sorry if this has already been discussed today 🙂

  96. peachesgooner says:

I didn’t like it either until I was stuck at home with small children. We all loved being in the garden and my next-door neighbour was a bit of a plant buff so really she turned me on to it……thanks to her I can now bore for England…….. 😆

  97. Irishgunner says:

    Go Albania 🙂

The Czechs aren’t doing too well either they are all but out to be honest.

  98. kelsey says:

did you say bore for England, or did i misread that 😉

  99. Irishgunner says:

I’m off to watch the Bulgaria – Ireland match.

    See ye soon 🙂

  100. peachesgooner says:

    …..yep, bore for England 😆

  101. peachesgooner says:

    Enjoy your game Irish 😉

kelsey – did you manage to get on by yourself or are you still getting leg-up 😛

  102. kelsey says:

still trying to get my leg up peaches, or something like that.

by the way, the belgian is signed,it’s a done deal trust me.

  103. kelsey says:

Right ..,Robin hood is on in a minute, you have got 45 minutes to fix it.All the controllers kindly get together, whoever you are.

  104. Rasputin says:

I’m back – don’t ask the score – I scored more than England though 🙂

  105. Rasputin says:

OK – I’ll have a shower, maybe someone will talk to me when I’m not all sweaty 😦

  106. kelsey says:

    Goodnight everyone.Nice talking to you.

  107. London says:

Tonight, I am mostly drinking red wine.

  108. London says:

    Ciao, a domani

  109. London says:

    Italian red wine, of course.

  110. avenell says:

To celebrate our future signing . Thomas Vermaelen.. I am mainly drinking a belgium delicacy.. the Stella Artois.. 🙂

  111. London says:

It’s funny how so few people realise that Stella is Belgian. I told Mrs London its nick name the other day….she didn’t believe me at first, she thought I was making it up.

  112. rico01 says:

Morning Roadsters, up early London 😉

This morning we are rumoured to be on the end of a 25M offer for RvP from Inter Milan – Sell him I say..

Add to that a 15M fee for Ade to AC Milan

40M pounds to add to the transfer kitty, and that 40M could very well be enough to secure David Villa….

  113. rico01 says:

London, I thought Stella was in Sainsbury’s 😛

  114. kelsey says:

Just so no one gets offended,

I have been put in spam and can’t contribute as i would want to, when trying to reply.

    Godd morning rico and London.

  115. rico01 says:

    Morning kelsey

  116. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters and Roosters 😉

  117. London says:

    Morning Everyone

Rico, I know it is good to have a dream and I would love to see David Villa play at Arsenal as much as the next supporter….I would also like to see world peace and a planet free from starvation but…..I feel such a kiljoy whenever I write about DV.

  118. rico01 says:

    Morning Rasp 🙂

  119. rico01 says:

London – With 40M a dream could be made to come true 😛

  120. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

I think Veloso is within budget and this guy Dzeko is an amazing player we may be able to afford…

    Hot off the presses…

Arsenal have secured a €13 million (£11.4 million) deal for Ajax captain Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports in his native Belgium

  121. London says:

“You’ve got to have a dream. If you don’t have a dream, how you going to have a dream come true?

  122. Rasputin says:

I’ve just lost my last comment..

Hi rico, we may be able to afford Veloso and Dzeko is an amazing player we may be able to afford…

    Hot off the presses..

Arsenal have secured a €13 million (£11.4 million) deal for Ajax captain Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports in his native Belgium

  123. rico01 says:

Rasp – you were in spam, as was kelsey this morning…

  124. rico01 says:

Just read about Thomas on Setanta – hope he is the first of a few 😉

  125. Rasputin says:

  126. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

Whats it like in spam – am I about to find out…..

  127. peachesgooner says:

rasp – did you get on by yourself that time

  128. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – rasp was in spam too, why don’t you try again, I’m watching 😉

  129. peachesgooner says:

Hi rico – how are you, we’ve had lashings of rain but the suns out now – is it going to be a nice day

  130. Rasputin says:

    Abducted by

    Proof of
    Mismanagement 😳

  131. peachesgooner says:

rasp – can you answer my question please 😆

  132. Rasputin says:

Yes to everything you say peaches…

    Must 🙄

  133. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Here is the reply from the peeps who stop the Spam, as you can see I am innocent.. 🙂

I assume you are referring to the user kelsey?

Most of that user’s comments were regarded as ham (not spam) by Akismet.

    I see two issues:

One, your administrator JonJon has at some point flagged some of kelsey’s comments as spam. Akismet has learned from that and is flagging occasional similar comments as spam (in particular when they are on JonJon’s posts I believe). If you ask JonJon to approve those comments Akismet will un-learn that behaviour, or I can help speed up the process if that is difficult for you.

And two, you have “**” in your comment blacklist words. That will incorrectly catch some comments as spam if they contain (for example) the words “bulge” or “vulgar”, or any other words with the sequence “**”. I don’t know if that has caught any of his comments but it might be causing problems for you.

    Kind regards,

  134. rico01 says:

    London – I like those lines – Happy Talk ?? 😉 😛

Morning peaches, I was checking the spam this morning, there is obviously a problem with wordpress, hopefully ave will get a reply soon to his email he sent

We have the sunshine too now, thankfully – it was awful during the night 😦

  135. rico01 says:

As if by magic, here is the boss with the email, I think I am a white witch 😉

  136. peachesgooner says:

    Morning ave – I love the 2nd reason 😛

You’d best get JonJon out of bed then…..although I think that kelsey has gone out to play bowls now anyway……will you send him an email about this, I think you should 🙂

  137. Rasputin says:

Doesn’t explain why I went into spam ave?

    Peaches 😦

  138. peachesgooner says:

rasp – ‘yes’ to everything I say – how nice 😆

  139. avenell says:

Morning Rasp.. It is spamming similar comments.. Your’s and Irish’s got mixed up in that I assume..

    Morning Rico and Peaches..

  140. peachesgooner says:

rasp – i think you went into spam because of ‘Bel*ium’
and Irish went in yesterday because she used ‘Bul*aria’

  141. avenell says:

And you cannot use those phones of the name **.. or their fridges.. 😉

am I banned yet Peaches?.. 🙂

  142. peachesgooner says:

If we sign Thomas Vermaelen he’ll have to hail from somewhere else 😉

  143. avenell says:

    Beaclfium.. lol

  144. peachesgooner says:

ave 🙂 all in good time…….

I wonder what happens if theres a typo in Enlgand..

  145. peachesgooner says:

Wow, it must be really intelligent to know that that was a typo….or its given up 🙂

    ave 🙂 I was a bit slow there……

  146. avenell says:

    Or Enaclfand.. easy done.. 😉

I will do this joke until i get reconition.. 🙂

  147. Rasputin says:

If that’s true peaches, how come 2 posts at 10:36 P.M. (London) and 7:41 this morning (ave) both containing the ‘forbidden’ letters get through?

  148. avenell says:

I have debanned the letters Peaches.. not that clever. 🙂

  149. peachesgooner says:

    I’ve given you recognition 🙂

Maybe because we’re all authors it doesn’t ban ours.

rasp – you try again using one of them

  150. peachesgooner says:

Too late – aves already taken them out.

  151. avenell says:

See my previous 2 posts Peaches.. i’m quick this morning.. 😉

  152. Rasputin says:

    Ave’s muscles are buLGing…. 😕

  153. avenell says:

Rasp do I need to ban the word “duck” so cricketers who play in Essex are not offended with there scores?.. 😉

  154. Rasputin says:

    I’d ban geese – they s**t everwhere 😛

My score was perfectly respectable – I carried my bat and was ‘not out’ but unfortunately ran out of partners which is very frustrating …..

  155. avenell says:

What you did after the game is none of our buisness.. 😉

I see how you got your name now.. lol

  156. Rasputin says:

I simply do my best at the crease and score as many times as I can 😎

  157. Rasputin says:

“Tottenham are leading the race to sign former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy – with his current club Real Madrid ready to let the 32-year-old Dutch striker go for just £1.25m.”

All they need to do now is sign Savage and all our most hated players will be in one place…..

  158. avenell says:

It’s okay until you get run out, then you don’t want to go back for a second innings.. 😉

  159. Evo in Oz says:

    gday all

  160. Rasputin says:

    g’day Evo….

I hope you haven’t come on here to gloat about the cricket 😆

Mind you, Australia lost to the Windies, but that is nowhere near the shame of losing to Holland 😦

  161. avenell says:

G’day.. G’nite whatever it is down under mate..

  162. Rasputin says:

Do you tyhink AW has learnt the lessons of last season and is expecting to lose RVP and Ade – this guy would be a more than able replacement….shame citeh are interested, it can only push the price up 😦

“Arsene Wenger has opened talks with Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg over the signing of German player of the year Edin Dzeko.

The Arsenal boss is competing with moneybags Manchester City for one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe with the bidding starting at £12million.

Wenger is convinced that can beat off competition for the Bosnian with the chance to play in the Champions League for Arsenal a crucial factor.

Dzeko scored 26 goals in 32 appearances last season as Wolfsburg beat off late competition from Bayern Munich to seal the first German national title in the club’s history.

Despite the interest from City – and the prospect of a much higher salary at Eastlands – Dzeko, 23, moved to Wolfsburg two years ago from FK Teplice, but he caught the eye of Wenger with his impressive performances in Germany.”

  163. rico01 says:

    Afternoon all

Ave – did you get my email ?? 😦

  164. avenell says:

Hi rico.. yes I did.. how his he/she?

I was waiting for your return.. 🙂

Rasp..I hoping that this new c/o is dealing with the contracts, keeping Arsene on his toes..

As for RvP .. flog him.. we stuck by him when he got injured for Holland.. We could have won the League if he had of stayed fit last season.. or season before last.. he needs to know he was responsable for us winning nothing as much as anybody.. Now he is saying we lack ambition.

  165. rico01 says:

    Ave – real poorly 😦

  166. Rasputin says:

Sorry to hear you’re having some strife rico … hope it all gets better very soon … 😉

Ave – I agree, we should nevcer be in the position when we feel we have a player who we simply can’t do without (Henry, Cesc, RVP) and no player should think he can dictate to the club…….

  167. rico01 says:

I agree ave, sell him, a crock, who steals and misses all the free kicks, 25M would be a good bit of business 🙂

  168. rico01 says:

    Thanks Rasp

  169. peachesgooner says:

Hi rico – sorry to hear about your poorly piggy 😦

I think its a bit harsh on RVP to condemn him cos he was injured………I’m sure he didn’t want to be…and I did read somewhere that he was guilty of mis-leading the medical staff about his recoveries because he was so keen to play…….

  170. kelsey says:

I am back, my new team is Coventry, because that’s what it feels like.

JonJon get off your arsenal and despam me. 😉

  171. kelsey says:

    oh f*********************************************** it

  172. kelsey says:

the first unseen hatrrick ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  173. avenell says:

I’m not condeming him.. I just find his comments 2 faced.. We got him at a young age and gave him time and a chance to develop, now Arsene is doing the same with others he says we lack ambition..

His injuries were either from a goal celebration where he broke his foot or from playing for holland where he twisted his knee, then before he recoverd fully he played for holland again and started the groin problem off..

  174. peachesgooner says:

Been watching some clips of Dzeko – very impressive heading……do you think he could give Nikki some tips 🙂

We’ll need to get a lot more bandages in I reckon for his head 😛

  175. avenell says:

On top of that he hasn’t scored from a free kick for 2 seasons I believe and he never allows another player to have a chance a taking one Nasri or Arshavin for instance.
He is totaly relient on his left foot and the opposition defences have sussed him out now like they did with reyes who was similar..

  176. peachesgooner says:

Sorry ave – I put up a NEW POST to see if the spammed one can get on. Hes gonna try now

  177. avenell says:

Peaches keep your eye in spam.. Kelsey lost 3 comments again..

  178. peachesgooner says:

Ave – I thought you were waiting for JonJon to let him on durrrrrrrrr

  179. rico01 says:

    Thanks peaches –

RvP is a wonderful player, but I agree that he has a bit of a cheek to make such comments about us not winning anything when he has hardly been involved through being crocked – and also him knowing that he has been paid a big fat salary while doing nothing..

I slate Nikki sometimes for his poor finishing but Robins has been as poor, in fact they have all been pretty pants in front of goal…

Arsene talks about getting our defence sorted out, but I would not be too shocked if we looked back at the games we ‘should’ have won, and see that we missed many many chances to score – making the fact that we conceded irrelevant. Dont get me wrong, we do need to defend much much better..

And in relation to free kicks, Kolo toure has an awesome shot on him, he drives it hard, fast and straight – why on earth do we not ever give him a chance 🙄

  180. avenell says:

If jonjon is not about for a day or so that’s not fair on Kelsey.. I meant when they are on together jonjon can de spam him then.. a missunderstooding.. 😉

  181. peachesgooner says:

Is the new post not up – its ok I’ll delete aferwards and we can carry on here, I just want to see if kelsey can get on

  182. avenell says:

I replied on here because you did Peaches.. haha

  183. peachesgooner says:

ave – what d’you want to do? Shall I delete the other one – it was just to make sure kelsey could get on – and we can all carry on here……

  184. kelsey says:

  185. kelsey says:

    Just for JonJon

  186. kelsey says:

    try again,
    just for jonJon

  187. kelsey says:

    one,two five

  188. peachesgooner says:

oooooh, there you are, did you do that all by yourself….. 🙂
