Season ends on a high…

After a season of more lows than highs, we signed off in style yesterday as we put Stoke to the sword…The the top 4 spots had already been claimed and we didnt have anything to play for so the pressure was off….or was it?? As it was the last game of the season and as it was Stoke we did have something to play for…two words….pride and revenge..and neither the fans or the players let us down yesterday…

The sun shone, and the support and our football flowed as much as the beer and we showed that the early season game at Stoke was a fluke result…its a shame though really because those other ‘fluke’ results against Hull, Fulham, Sunderland etc probably cost us the league but thats football…we have all summer to put that right….right??

The fans gathered before the game and marched en route to the game to show their support for Wenger and the team…the banners to support Wenger were there to be seen all around the stadium…the turn out for a game against Stoke was immense…just as it was for the FA youth cup midweek….thousands upon thousands of the Red and White army were there and they made sure Wenger knew they were there…

Wenger wants more support like that every week next season…which is fair enough….as long as he doesn’t expect a march before every game!!!! And as long as he doesn’t start playing players out of position and watching them play poorly for 80mins before changing it….just a thought….

But…today is not the day for negativity….its a day for looking forward with anticipation and excitement and it started yesterday as we gave Stokes bullys and long throwers a damn good lesson in football….

The phrase ”boys against men” has been branded about alot recently…and all aimed at us…in a negative way…well yesterday we put that right and reversed it round…if it was a boxing match it would have been stopped after the first round…

We started the game well…the passing was crisp and direct, the ‘spine’ of the the team turned it on and our big game players turned up for once…and we went after Stoke from the start with a hunger and a passion that has been missing from this team for large chunks of the season..

The first goal came from some lovely interplay from a corner after 10 mins…Cesc found himself with space on the byline and fizzed a ball in low and hard that any predator would thrive off…unfortunately for Stoke..it was their own predator and it clipped of Beatties heel into the net…Yes!! Good start…a goals a goal and it was 1 nil to the Arsenal…

Our second came from a slice of luck…but in football you make your own luck…Robin took a pass just outside the box and looked to have lost control…but he never gave it up and battled for it back like anybody proud to wear the shirt would….he found himself in the box with the ball at his feet and took a tumble off the slightest touch that even Ronaldo couldnt pull off….and a minute later SMASH…perfect pen…the keeper didn’t have a chance as it clipped off the post and into the net….Robin Van Persie…Robin Van Persie…

The third was an excellent header from a free kick that was fizzed in with pin point precision from our chocolate legged boy wonder….with Toure and Diaby we actually had a bit of height in the box for once and the free kick was a beaut…Diaby leaped like a salmon and used the pace of the ball to glide it into the net… it was a great header by our very own enigma and the keeper didn’t have a chance again…. 3nil boys…let the carnival begin..lets thump em now…

Stoke pulled one back… sigh…but we wont talk about stoke…yesterday was our day…

We managed to regain our 3 goal advantage when Robin showed great technical ability and got himself into a position to intercept a Delap header back to the keeper…he chested it down…swivelled on a sixpence and blasted the ball into the goal…it was a piece of technical brilliance and his 20th of the season…a good return…

4-1…haha..and it wasnt even half time!!!!!

The second half was much of the same style of play…we were still all over them but we couldn’t break them down and unfortunately we couldn’t ripple the back of the net….we deserved a cricket score..it should of been a cricket score…but 4 goals was enough to smile about and Wenger and the fans and the players all went home happy….

Ratings

Mannone…9….no chance with the pen but had nothing else to do but save a Beattie free kick that was straight at him…

Sagna…9…a fairly quiet game but thats what you want from your defenders

Kolo…9…see Sagna.

Song…9 see Kolo

Gibbs..10..I love this lad…tackled, stormed forward, showboated…brilliant… Clichy who??

Walcott..9..needs to play in the middle

Cesc…10…brilliant passing, sprayed the ball everywhere and Stoke crumbled

Denilson…9…steady and consistent

Diaby…9..see Denilson

AK47…9…direct forced the issue and shot on sight..shame he didn’t score…

Robin…10…two goals, an assist and a battling perormance..what more can one ask for???

Subs

EE…8…plays for Arsenal

Nikki..8…see EE

Vela..8..see Nikki

Overall the fans wanted an end of season party and the players brought the beer and the strippers with that performance…and celebrate we did….

We now have a few months of withdrawal symptoms to look forward too…but hopefully the transfer window will give us something to shout about….the Under 21 championships are on the summer to keep us going too..maybe Wenger will take his cheque book!!!!!!

Have a good bank holiday guys and thanks for all your comments over the past few months….

Next season will soon be upon us and next season is ours….

That was a really good read Jonjon, top post.

  3. JonJon says:

    cheers london..

you ok mate??? did you enjoy the game??? hows the hangover…mines killing me… 🙂

  4. London says:

The only thing that was missing was Bugs Bunny……..it was show time.

Having taken my seat at the Emirates with my youngest son beside me I was concerned as to what, by way of excitement, the game would bring, not only for an eleven year old but for his Dad. There was nothing to play for and I feared that Arsenal would settle for a training ground practice match; which, after five minutes, it became apparent that was exactly what was going to happen. But the thing that had slipped my mind was that atmospherically controlled Wengerball, the brand that is played every day at London Colney on the training ground is a very classy and entertaining affair.

Arsenal were at their flowing best, the passing was crisp the level of skill was very, very high and there were plenty of goals which not only pleased my eleven year old but really pleased me.

Stoke, not happy with just being last game cannon fodder, went one further and decided to give us a helping hand or four. The first goal came from a corner, with the usual Fabregas one two with Van Persie, which worked beautifully and allowed our captain to move purposely towards the goal, not having a clear shot, he drilled it into the six yards box forcing Beattie to smash it into his own net; the Stoke fans saw the humour and celebrated with more gusto than the home fans. Training ground Wengerball continued. Stoke, not happy with giving us an own goal then made a present of a penalty; the softest of touches brought Van Persie down, which he dispatched with familiar precision.

It was at this point I remember thinking, this is what Wenger must see everyday and ask himself, “why do I need to sign new players, it is all here”; and it was. The problem was that Stoke’s performance, like training ground Wengerball, was and is artificial and therefore very misleading.

Diaby, giving the ball away cheaply as usual, was the only one disturbing the aesthetics of what seemed like a well choreographed master class. And as if to shut me up and any negative thought, Van Persie sent in a beautifully weighted ball for Diaby to soar majestically to head in our third. If this were Christmas and you were opening your presents in front of your family you would have found yourself in one of those embarrassing moments, as Stoke had spent far more on us than we had spent on them. We tried to make amends by giving them a penalty but they were having none of it; the gifts just kept on coming. Delap tried to head back to their keeper only for Van Persie to intercept, controlling it on his chest he swivelled and finished with that magical left foot of his. It was all over bar the lap of appreciation.

  5. London says:

    Morning Jonjon

I can’t wait to read Ave’s match report lol

  6. JonJon says:

    hahaha

oh sorry london…i rang ave last night to see if he had one and he said he didnt know so i did one…

that was a good piece as usual….

did your son enjoy the carnival???

  7. JonJon says:

i still would like to see diaby sold but if we sell ade maybe diaby could be a striker??

  8. London says:

I was with my youngest and we cycled there so I was sober.

  9. JonJon says:

ahh a cycle in the sunshine father and son bonding…theres nothing better than a footy match to spend your quality time with your youngest…

    hope he enjoyed it…

  10. London says:

Jonjon no need to be sorry. I never know when I am going to write something, which if I am honest is the way I like it, sometimes they are useful and help you guys out, other times I am happy to just write something and post it.

My son really liked the noisy, drunken exuberence of the fans getting the Police escort; he had never seen anything like that before.

Diaby: I really want to like this player but he really isn’t doing himself any favours. I’m hoping for a loan for him and a new signing. Someone who can defend, Diaby offers nothing in that department.

  11. London says:

Jonjon you got it in one…it was a special day.

  12. London says:

I don’t think Diaby is good enough to be a second striker. Besides we have got second strikers coming out of our ears…RVP, Bendner, Vela and even Eduardo to a certain extent. If Adebayor goes I would like to see us buy someone quick and mobile which, maybe exluding Vela, none of the others are.

  13. JonJon says:

i know what you mean about diaby….he has no awareness other than in the final third and he cant defend…

yet when he has a chance in front of goal he takes it…maybe a switch to striker would see the best out of him

  14. JonJon says:

sorted then london…we sell him 😉

  15. Ateeb says:

    Jon Jon,

About Diaby, is that an opinion or a fact?

  16. rico01 says:

What a day me and mine have had…!!!!!!!!

JJ, another post, and lovely to read as usual, and London, what a lovely day you had with your son – days out like that are priceless..

  17. JonJon says:

    good afternoon rico…..

thankyou…did you have a nice barby???

  18. rico01 says:

So, on to our day, a beautiful warm Bank Holiday Monday – a little overcast first thing so we thought we would get the mundane things out the way, get home and enjoy an afternoon in the garden.

Shopping is Sainsbury’s, a look around Scats (chicken stuff) and the on to the local retail park for some clothes and a Mr Whippy – but that place was busy so popped to Tesco to fill the Freelander with Diesel…

And then it all went so horribly wrong, £8.00 into filling and it was realised that the pump nozzle said, (yes you have guessed it)…..

UNLEADED – F**K – I thought (sorry, but so would you)

Cut a long story short, off in a truck to High Wycombe, engine drained etc, £250 worse off and just got home !!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the interesting thing about all of this is that the driver of said truck was a Dipper fan, he said Tevez is having a medical at Pool, and Ade has done an interview in a newspaper (i cant find it) saying he hates all the Arsenal players, they are all rubbish footballers, he is the best, we are not team players and he wants and is going to sign for Man Utd….

    Anyone else heard/seen this ??

    Oh, Afternoon all 😦

  19. rico01 says:

JJ – It was lovely thank you, sweetcorn, kebabs of mushroom, onion and red pepper – a veggie burger and loads of salad – i love the warm evenings..

How are you doing today JJ, have you been stiring up the lefties 😉

  20. avenell says:

Ateeb welcome aboard you are free to blog now mate!!

  21. JonJon says:

no not today rico…they do my head in…cant debate with them…its all over their head because its stuck up their arses.. 😳

apparently my problem is i cant be taught… wheres the rule in the supporters handguide that says fans must convert to other peoples opinions or they are trolls???? 😉

seriously, you couldnt make it up….

oh dear rico…thats sounds like a traumatic day out….

ive heard pool want tevez and to be honest it doesnt suprise me about ade…ive thought that about him all season anyway…hes another one thats stuck up his own arse…

  22. JonJon says:

    afternoon Ateeb…

    thats opinion mate….

  23. JonJon says:

    Howdy Ave.

    whereve you been mate???

  24. rico01 says:

I cant see Ateeb 😦 Hello anyway

Afternoon ave, you just got up 😉

  25. JonJon says:

    3.53 rico

Ateeb was one of the bloggers on another site i was on i actually had a decent conversation with…thats if he wasnt yanking my chain…. 🙂

  26. rico01 says:

Ah – seen it now, guess only time will tell – but i know what i think 😉

  27. JonJon says:

its looking like we’ll be playing burnley again next season…

  28. rico01 says:

I am pleased for them JJ, they are a good footballing side with a good manager -SU remind me of that old git Warnock 😉

    Also, burnley beat Reading 😦

  29. JonJon says:

me too rico..i quite like burnley…they gave some good games….

    ive never liked SU either…

me and a mate once travelled to bramall lane and they beat us 1-0….

after the game we went for a burger and me and the mate were chased halfway across sheffield all the way to the train staion by about 10 SU thugs…

they are not my most favorite team.. 😉 couldnt of happened to a nicer set of fans…

  30. London says:

I see we have had the honour, all the way from Pakistan, of no other than the Lefties very own… “Ateeb”

Actually, when he is not trying to save Arsenal supporters souls from the demons that lurk on the other channel he has some interesting football insights.

  31. rico01 says:

    JJ – spot-on 😉

Right, got to go now 😦

    Be safe

  32. JonJon says:

    hi again london.. 😉

  33. JonJon says:

    bye rico. 😆

    one out one in… 😉

  34. London says:

    Jonjon

You were very busy last night, I just read the whole thing; it was very entertaining. The thing I didn’t understand was after Muppet had gone to all the trouble of explaining the way he saw things to which you politely said that it was a good comment and that you had a better understanding of what he meant; he then goes on, completely unprovoked, to insult you. It didn’t make sense. The Lefties are not easy to understand.
I still have this image of you as a Johnny Depp character in Pirates of the Caribbean swinging on a rope from one ship to another only in this case it would be from blog to blog with a cutlass in your mouth ready to do battle with anyone. It brings a smile to my face.

  35. London says:

A cutlass in your mouth and probably, last night, a beer in your hand 😉

  36. JonJon says:

you got that right london… 😉

i could of done with a few shipmates but you know me…

  37. JonJon says:

yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.. 🙂

  38. rico01 says:

    Morning all

  39. rico01 says:

Just watching the game – one thing that stands out for me, and stands out big time.

No Ade or Nik and Nasri in this side right now, and every single player is playing freely – they are smiling!

A goal goes in and EVERY player joins in the celebration – and I dont think we have seen that for a while – I know its the last game etc, but its shows how happy they all are together on the pitch.

Ade is clearly a thorn in this side, but then we all knew that didnt we.

  40. rico01 says:

Sorenson played out of his skin, why do keepers always play well against us 😉

  41. rico01 says:

Kolo ‘jink jink’ Toure, how unlucky he was 😛

And Gibbs is going to be the best left back in the world real soon 😉

  42. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Evening all

    Bring on the signings

    Regards GG9

  43. rico01 says:

    Hi george 🙂

  44. rico01 says:

gp – just realised you mean Thomas Vermaelen, CH at Ajax, meant to be pretty good – but thats only from reading about him. Thats the other guy all the paps are linking us too

  45. rico01 says:

    WOOPS – 😳

  46. rico01 says:

Where are you old tinkers today 😦

  47. JonJon says:

    hi rico

sorry im back at work today…..spare times hard to find

yes i agree Gibbs was one of those who had an outsranding game and he has all the qualities there to make it…

    Hi GG9

yes bring on the signings… 😉

  48. rico01 says:

Hi JJ, No probs, I understand – catch you later

Ave – hope you are ok, whatever you are up to 😉

  49. London says:

Why haven’t we signed anyone yet?

  50. rico01 says:

Evening London – sadly that is a No 😦

Juve have, and Inter I think, but not us with the 32 seater slow coach 😉

  51. rico01 says:

Good television viewing tonight, the youth are on Setanta with a 4-1 lead 😛 😛

  52. London says:

    Evening Rico

    What time does it start?

  53. London says:

I have decided to join the Gibbs fan club. So there you have it, London is a Gibby.

He has a languid style and so I was concerned that he might lack pace….but I was wrong; he can motor when he needs to.

I was concerned about his ability to defend especially tackle but I have been watching him closely and his improvement, on a weekly basis, is impressive.

I have never doubted his ability to cross, that was always there for all to see.

He is showing signs of getting goal hungry, which is obviously good; he almost scored twice on Sunday.

Not sure how this is going to work with Clichy!

  54. JonJon says:

    hiya guys…

see how peoplecan warm to certain players…some quicker than others…

i dont know if you guys have noticed but in recent weeks ive started to warm to nikki….

i still think he has alot of work to doto improve his game….but its his attitude in the games that has impressed me….

see…..you get a player like nikki…lathargic…playing poorly….some fans against him and he works even harder to win us round…i admire that…and if he goes on tobe a qulaity player i’ll respect him for what hes come through…i suppose that one of the advantages of watching players develop i suppose…alot like song i might add…

then we have adebayor….lathergic…playing poorly…fans against him…and turns round and blames the fans….wrong attitude…very wrong…

  55. London says:

Adebayor should change his agent and his PR team; they haven’t done a single thing to counter the terrible image that has been created around him and the other thing, he should stop talking to the press: everything that comes out of his mouth is damaging.

If I was his agent the only thing I would allow him to say is “46 goals in two seasons” which I would want him to say loud and often.

  56. rico01 says:

    London – its on now 😉 …..

JJ – i understand exactly what you are saying about Nik – at least he tries 😉

  57. rico01 says:

    night then 😦

  58. avenell says:

Morning Roadsters.. I have a few computer problems and I am out for a while catch up later..

  59. rico01 says:

the main man appears – hoooooooooorah 😉

  60. rico01 says:

See we have signed a couple of kids today 😛

    And this is interesting

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/348858189?-19387

I am allowed to say I have had a shite afternoon 😦

Sorry if that offends, just needed to tell someone

  61. rico01 says:

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/348801584?-19387

Bollox, he will want an extra 10K a week now 😉

  62. rico01 says:

Gosh, I have said a naughty word in both my last two comments – sorry 😳

  63. avenell says:

The reason we banned the naughty words was to protect the “ladies”.. 😉

  64. rico01 says:

Hi ave, how are you doing – good day ??

My naughty words were not too bad though, were they ?? 😳

Very Lady Like I thought 😉

  65. avenell says:

You can talk dirty to me anytime .. 😉

5 hours in a bird sanctuary/childrens play area thing..
    😦

  66. rico01 says:

You are male, all males love 5 hours looking a birds – dont they ???? 😉 😉

    Me, talk dirty …. 😳 😉

Ok, I will call you tomorrow 😛

  67. rico01 says:

    off for Din Dins 🙂

  68. rico01 says:

    Hello…………… 😛

  69. rico01 says:

    Come on Barca 🙂

  70. rico01 says:

Right, no-one around so I am off, no footie for me tonight, not really interested, just hope that Barca go on and win…

    Catch you tomorrow…

  71. London says:

Do you know any welders? There is a bus in Manchester that needs a top putting back on. Lol

  72. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..
    Anyone about?

  73. rico01 says:

    Morning 😉

    I am about ave 😉

  74. London says:

Helloooooooo, was that tumble weed that just rolled by.

  75. rico01 says:

You refering to me London ?? 😉 😛

  76. JonJon says:

    evening all….

i was happy that manure got stuffed last night…so happy…

but you know the only downside….is that it showed henry was right to leave us and now fergie will go out and strengthen the squad next season with at least two big players..

liverpool will try to keep up and push on from this season and sign quality and chelseas new boss will be given a hefty kitty to rebuild

if wenger thinks that keeping this squad togther and signing another coulple of 16 year olds, like has what has been reported today, is enough to compete with next season hes in for a shock and we are in for another season like this one….

this window is the one where wenger has to make the biggest decisions of his career and drop the deadwood and get us the quality to prove that there isnt a growing divide between the ‘big three’ and the ‘best of the rest’

  77. rico01 says:

Hi JJ – Arsene will buy so many good old oldies, we will be smiling all season 🙂

  78. rico01 says:

Seriously JJ, I couldnt agree more, get rid of the ‘no chance’ players, take the money and use it very wisely – we have a big squad, but a very very weak squad – and that is where we differ from many clubs 😦

  79. London says:

Ok, I am one and a half bottles of wine in. If any one thinks that Wenger is happy with being second they are seriously deluding themselves. Wenger has stuck with the board through the transition period now it is time for the board to show their support for Wenger. Have you noticed that collectively we are not callling for x y and z to be signed or we will fail next season which starts to show me that we are more than three quaters of the way to where we the fans want to see us be next season.

  80. London says:

Congratulations if you could make head or tail of what just said. I think alcohol is a wondworful thing.

  81. London says:

    Rico dearest

I promise you that I will never think of you as tumble weed.

  82. rico01 says:

    London 😛

And I did make every sense of your comment, we really are not far away, just 3 players with experience – that is all we ask…

Hope you dont get a hangover in the morning – actually, I hope I dont have one either 😉

    Nighty night all 😆

  83. avenell says:

Who are these new players Hex, Why and Zed are they from south america?

  84. rico01 says:

Blimey Riley, The boss has arrived -bit bloomin late !! ?? 🙂 🙂

They are Russian ave – definately off now, i have been up since 6am 😦

  85. JonJon says:

    hey up boys and girls…..

london im on my 6th can and that made perfect sense mate….

of course wenger wants to win..thats obvious…but what else is obvious is that hes willing to be patient and wait 6 years until he gets it…

the problem with that is that he can buy as many young players as he wants and say the future is bright and rosy but as long as the rest keep buying ‘ready mades’ the only improvement we will see is within the team and not in the competitions…

we need a few more AK47’s and a few less diabys and we’ll be fine…. 😉

  86. Evo in Oz says:

    gday all,

anyone around, whats the plan for the off-season, will we still be blogging/posting?

    cheers

  87. rico01 says:

    Morning Roadsters

Interesting piece this morning, and its in ‘our clubs’ paper

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/349177179?-19387

As much as I hoped for a stronger midfield man to play alongside Cesc, if we get this man on the cheep cheep, I guess it would be a good addition… 😉

  88. rico01 says:

Off to try and get a few little zzzzzzzzzzzz’s 🙂

  89. JonJon says:

    hey evo…

yes mate we’ll be doing a few posts here and there during the off season…

im unsure about barry rico.. maybe

  90. London says:

    Morning Rico

Our clubs news paper is funny and I finally get the tumble weed joke…..ooooohhh my head!

  91. rico01 says:

    Morning again all

Not a good day for a hangover London, its hot and humid 😦

Busy morning, catch you all in a while

  92. avenell says:

Just in case you don’t know, London has put a NEW POST on..
