Football isn’t Complicated.

Today’s Post by is by supporter ‘D’

Bob Wilson has often been quoted a saying that the reason he loves football is because it is a very simple game. All you have to do is be strong and defend the goal area, take control and be creative in the midfield, and have clinical predatory firepower up front. These are the basics of the beautiful game. Manchester United displayed all of those attributes last night.

The job of the manager is to assemble the personnel to fulfil those criteria, to train them to play together and then pick a team and devise the tactics to win games. We are guilty of over-complicating our style of football to the point that it only works when the opposition is foolish enough to let us play.

The reason we have won nothing for the last five years is because we have failed to do the basics. We haven’t assembled a squad capable of winning trophies. We haven’t been able to mould the players into a balanced team. We haven’t effectively coached them tactically on how to beat opposition that defends deep or how to change a game plan when our approach isn’t working.

Whether we persevere on the same lines as the last four years or have a mass clear out and rethink our basic approach to Arsenal football, only time will tell. I expect that unrest amongst some fans will be growing to fever pitch over the summer. We must all remember one thing…the club is bigger than any player, the manager or the board. It is our club and we deserve better….

    i agree…

  2. JonJon says:

we got our arses kicked last night… we had something like 2 shots at goal all game….

wenger and the players were spouting shite all week about how we were going to see a different arsenal….

we did.. we were worse…we were humiliated…

the fans were immense last night…the fans turned up..none of the players did and id of walked out on 60mins too if id off been there…

  3. London says:

Apparently Arsenal have got a rare cross virus of Swine and Bird which will prevent them from winning a trophy.

It’s called “Pigs might fuckin fly flu”

  4. JonJon says:

    haha

  5. chaf says:

It’s by our own recent standards that we judge ourselves. Thats why we are so pissed off.

I still can’t understand why Wenger is getting it wrong so much. I assumed that his responsibilities are to get us into the CL every year until financial stability is regained.

We need a new spine to the team. No leader on the pitch, we were made to look like boys v men last night, and as I said before I’m disappointed but not surprised as we were punching above our weight.

Its time for a big change.

  6. London says:

That is a very eloquently written post. Who wrote it? Who is supporter D

  7. JonJon says:

chaf….i never expected any thing from this season at the start….

this team was never capable of winning anything…. weve struggled in the league as a result and weve scrapped our way into the semis of the CL where we were then made to look like the average team we are by a true class team….and not the class team wenger says we are….

the only trophy we had a real chance in was the FA and wenger threw that….

this 21 game unbeaten run doesnt fool me….the only big team weve played in that is liverpool and we were lucky to draw… we were spanked then too….

changes need to be made…not just tweaks…but wholesale changes….half the team dont care and the other half are not good enough…..

  8. chaf says:

    JJ

Thats what gets me the most. Nobody seemed to be bothered in either two semi’s.

Fab strolled around, its like he doesn’t want to be seen losing whilst really trying.

    Ade just doesn’t care much.

    RVP didn’t bust a gut.

Theo was marked out of the game, and basically he’s a one trick player.

I still like Song and Nasri, they looked bothered. As did Nic, and I know he’s only 20 but I don’t think he’s good enough.

I won’t blindly support Arsene and Arsenal, whatever they do, I want them to have the same ambition I have.

Actually, I will blindly support Arsenal!

  9. JonJon says:

chaf top top comment…. its not losing that hurts its the way we lost… we pay them millions we stay loyal and we big them up as this team with potential….

our big players didnt want to know one bit…

cesc is supposed to be our leader on the pitch and he was awful…

i will blindy follow arsenal fc…. but not arsene fc and the sooner he wakes up and realises no 1 man is bigger than the club the better… that not only applies to players but to managers too….

he cannot keep on this way….its not working and i refuse to beleive him and his policies anymore…

nasri was our best player he made cesc look 3rd division…..

if ade, robin and cesc wanna go they can fuck off with attitudes like that and if theo thinks he deserves a 60k a week contract he can pack his bags as well…

id rather have jacky gibbs and simpson in the squad next year than those over hyped over paid gits…

  10. chaf says:

I would like to see the same sort of team that played against Pompey the other day, for the rest of the season.

We were winning games when Fab was injured. AW should start rebuilding now.

I hope Fab, Ade and RVP go and warm the benches of Europe’s top teams. RVP said when he arrived we were winning things, and now we’re not. Enough said…

  11. JonJon says:

offering ade that contract and not offering flamini what he wanted is the biggest fucking disaster….

id rather 11 players on the pitch that run there sox off than the fucking mercenaries we have at the minute…..

win lose or draw all i want is a bit of fucking sweat on the brow….

all our so called superstars dont give a toss…not one was out of breath after the game….wenger sat with his head in his hands for 80 mins….what sort of attitude is that….????

while all the fans are feeling like shit them tossers will be sat counting the bonuses they all get fo reaching the semis….and looking forward to the payrises they are all gonna get for showing potential…

    bastards….

frimpong and JET next year in the 1st team…..

    sell the fucking lot….

  12. JonJon says:

cesc aint all that….he cant even get into the spain squad…. if those fools at real or barca want to fork out 40mil then they can have him….

most of our players only have one trick…walcot only fast. cesc can only pass. ade can only count money rvp isnt the star he thinks he is…

i went mad at gallas when he said what he said but you know what….he was fucking right….this team is full of egos and no leaders…..

  13. JonJon says:

    http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5288342,00.html

    you got that right….

no correction…. we need players better than you… you lazy, useless, money grabbing, team unsettling, lump of shit…

    and take theo with you…..

thats 50mil to rebuild with right there and we wont miss a thing when youve both gone.

  14. peachesgooner says:

That is so sad – Arsene thinks he is the only one who feels bad but last nights result will have a profound effect on thousands of peoples lives over the next few days.

  15. peachesgooner says:

Problem there JJ is that it sounds like Ade’s not going until he wins something eeeeeeeeek

  16. JonJon says:

the thing is… wenger always goes on about mental strength and determination….

well i dont see an end of season parade for mental strength……..

and he contradicted himself in that interview he did when he said we were poor at the start of the season because of the effects of what happened last season and in the summer…..

make up your mind man….your full off shit….

  17. peachesgooner says:

Those words are only spin to cover up how hes feeling – its not a bad attribute to try to find positive and encouraging words for the press….

The only problem is that we’ve heard them all before and nothings changed with regards to moving the team forward – look at all the shit that came out last week about seeing a different Arsenal when we play at the Emirates…….

I love Cesc but he needs to show a bit more on the pitch and a bit less in front of the cameras….

I blame Arsenal tv – its too cozy, its unrealistic, its too Arsenal bigging themselves up all the time and the players believe the hype…….

  18. JonJon says:

Cesc isnt the player we need i feel peaches….

all cecs has to his game is his passing…he offers nothing else…hes too slow..

nasri is a better option in the middle…hes more direct and he drives the midfield forward…he can dribble and shoot and has more pace and is a better all round player…

i aint being blinded anymore by players who are overhyped and only have one trick and cesc is one of them….we played better when he wasnt in the side…

i love cesc too and i want him to win things with us but he aint all that…

rvp, ade, cesc, theo. all overhyped….and i wouldnt mind if they went….

  19. avenell says:

For Cesc to play he needs to be in a team with players who can take a pass and use it within one touch like Nasri and Arshavin.. Passing doesn’t work when you have players who don’t have the intelligence to make runs or make themseleves available like Adebayor RvP and Theo..
Put Cesc in a team with Hleb, Flamini, Arshavin, even Henry and Bergkamp he would be the best in the world at his job he is twice as good as Gilberto or Petit used to be. Or if you think Cecc isn’t the same type of player better than their partner Vieira.

  20. JonJon says:

i see cesc as a luxury player…. he does better than most at what he does but he offers nothing else…

if he was all that then he would be in the spain squad but hes fourth choice behind xavi, xabi, and iniesta….

going forward we need two box to box midfeilders who can go forward and back with ease…. cesc is a luxury player… one trick man…

its like adebayor…. if the team dont play well ade dont play well… if the team dont play well cesc dont play well…

our so called ‘big stars’ are not match winners…. they arent game breakers….

liverpool , chelsea, manure all have players who can change the game if the rest of the team dont play…

henry, vieira, pires, bergkamp, all used to do it….

we dont have any… cesc isnt all that… the mans overhyped…

AA can do…. but one man aint enough…

  21. avenell says:

The Spain argument is out of order.. Cesc played a large part in Spain winning the Euro’s in the summer..
Spain are a team like Italy who prefer their players to play in the homeland and unlike in this country the manager picks the best team.. not the best 11 players..and lashes it together. so it is one mans choice he is not in the Spain starting line up..
just because the Spain manager doesn’t make him his first choice you don’t have to take that as gospel..

  22. avenell says:

You could name anyone of our old players and none of them could improve Arsenal on there own.. Anyone of them had at at least 3 or 4 world class players around them and 3 or 4 very good players.
Cesc has been dragging this Arsenal team along for a few years now and he seems to be tiring of it..

  23. JonJon says:

so let him go…. if hes tired then let him leave…

and he can take his boyfriend ade with him…

the way we play with ade in the team is partly cesc fault too as he always hits the long ball to him…

other players might be open but time and again cesc will look for ade….

cescs a one trick pony and when it dont pay off he looks less than average…

  24. JonJon says:

and the spain argument isnt out of order….

cesc was a bit part player in those games…. the stand out players were xavi and villa…

spain would of won that cup cesc or no cesc….

  25. avenell says:

What is the point of letting our first or second best player go?.. That’s just knee jerk reaction..

We might as well sell the lot and start again in the conference..

  26. avenell says:

It also proves that Cesc is capable of playing in a winning team and bit part isn’t correct he was about fourth in the passes completion table..
I don’t like stats but how can a bit part player get so high?

  27. JonJon says:

if barca offer the 40mil then we should take it…..thats all im saying…

we need new players…thats obviuos…we have no dosh so we raise it….

40mil would get alonso and veloso with change….

cesc aint the catalyst in this team anymore….if the offers there we should take it and id be happy with nasri taking over in the middle…

  28. JonJon says:

id put that more down to villa and torres ave.

cesc was made to look good…

with ade and rvp he just looks average….

  29. avenell says:

We would be like Man City then or the Spuds everyone elses player always looks greener..

You cannot take his last nights performance and single him out.. the tie was lost at old Trafford when he was played out of position..

If Cesc played for Man U last night instead of Carrick we would have lost by many more he would not have been their worst player.. Cesc is class and doesn’t deserve to be within this team..

  30. avenell says:

If Cesc looks good with Torres and Villa but doesn’t look good with Ade or RvP .. Cesc is the common denominator That to me suggests Ade and RvP are the weaker links..

  31. JonJon says:

im not singling just cesc out….they all were shit….

rvp ade theo cesc all our so called big players might as well not of turned up and if im honest they havent done all season….

cesc hasnt been all that this season either and since hes got back from injury he has been rubbish too….

they all have to be held accountable and if any of them were sold i wouldnt cry myself to sleep over it…

  32. Big Raddy says:

    JJ

I question the use of the word ‘rubbish’. By Cesc’s high standards, he has had a poor season. However, it has been blighted by having no break between the Euros and pre-season, and a long term injury.

I fully understand that you are carrying 4+ years of hurt and are unhappy with AW, but I firmly believe we are not too far away from a fine team. As I have said, yesterday we played the best team in the world playing at the top of their game. We, on the other hand were hampered by injuries to key defensive players, plus we had some bad luck early in the game and fell to pieces.

    We will only get better.

  33. London says:

For sale, 57,000 Arsenal flags all as good as new, only waved for seven minutes.

  34. chaf says:

    London~Where did you hear that?

Raddy. You are right. In fact I agree with both you and JJ. But we did start winning when Fab was injured.

Theres no doubt he is a great player, and he might be knackered, but he had a good rest during the season!

Did anyone notice Flamini in the crowd…

  35. London says:

If Flamini hadn’t already played for us he would tick every box needed to make him the perfect Wenger signing: French, out of favour with his existing major European club, inexpensive and grateful for being given another chance, oh and did I mention French.

  36. London says:

Chaf I have a very good source for my jokes

  37. chaf says:

    I understand he’s often on the sauce….

  38. JonJon says:

things can only get better raddy…

but will they with wenger in charge????

i have no confidence in the man anymore….i hope he shoves my words down my throat for the sake of the club but i fully believe the man is losing the plot….i dont expect to see any major changes…

this summer is the big one…if nothing changes and he goes with the same players…same lies…same formations and same line ups then he doesnt deserve to see out his contract….

we should plan for injuries…rosicky has been a crock for 18months… we should look to replace him…if he comes back then great but we need to take action….same with dudu and robin….if dudu comes back then great but we need to start thinking about quality in quantity and not relying on kids or playing RB’s at LW or strikers at LW or CM at LW or strikers at RW….etc etc etc….

the answer is to get somebody who naturally plays RW and LW… if we want to see the best of our players such as cesc then we need a striker who understands movement and positioning and can read the game and get himself onto those passes and finish them off….. other wise its like having a bazooka with no rockets…

no more experiments no more games…its make or break time…

i dont care if certain players leave this season… heck i want them to go….but we need the 2/3 quality signings this summer as well as the 2/3 we were promised last year…

if we fail we fail but at least it shows ambition and effort and we cant do much worse than what we are doing now can we??

  39. JonJon says:

was flamini really in the crowd?

i heard that ancellotti was in the crowd too and he said that adebayor had another poor game….

its no coincidence that ades now saying he wants to stay at arsenal…..

i think he means ‘ive proved im a one season wonder and im a bag of crap and now nobody wants me so im going to stay beacuse im ripping you lot off with the money i get’….

  40. London says:

I might as well go and watch the chavs, a bit of shadenfreuden might cheer me up.

  41. chaf says:

Yeah, Flamini was shown on TV, just by Beckham!

  42. London says:

I want to stay at the club = Ancelotti you are going to have to pay me more to leave.

  43. chaf says:

    Lets have a whip round

  44. JonJon says:

    essien….sigh….

    oh essien…what a player…

  45. London says:

    Hehehehehe

  46. JonJon says:

    hehehehe….i feel better now… 😉

that picture of cole almost crying was great…

drogba went sicko….he’ll be banned for a while…

  47. London says:

Yes, it is true, a big dollop of shadenfreuden has helped.

  48. JonJon says:

that was criminal though…chelsea deserved that… should of had a few pens…the ref was a joker….

    hahahahahahaha

  49. London says:

I turned off as soon as the whistle went did all the chavs go mad?

  50. JonJon says:

if yaya toure wanted to come id take him…ive always had my doubts about african players but anyone who can out muscle drogba and outpace anelka is fantastic in my book…

  51. JonJon says:

london the chavs went mental….drogba totally lost his head and was on the verge of assualting the ref…he then started pushing stewards and players about and swearing at uefa in the tv camaras….. 😉

  52. London says:

    Excellent

  53. JonJon says:

nice 12 game ban should be in order 😉

  54. avenell says:

It’s like Eboue if you keep diving you get a reputation.. Drogbreath deserves jack shit..

  55. JonJon says:

cole was the best picture though… priceless….

lets hope the toffees do em too in the FA… and i will piss myself…

finishing this season with nothing wont be as sour if the chavs and bin dippers finish with naff all too..

  56. London says:

Yeah, Yaya was very impressive…as you say, there is not better yard stick than Drogba…I hate that man, such a cheat…I thought for a while that it was an Ivory Coast thing, with Eboue and all but Kolo is the perfect gent…so it must be just that Drogba is a cnut

  57. avenell says:

Nita worked it out tonight with the amount of swearing who I hate the most at football.. lol..

  58. JonJon says:

i dont think drogba desreved them pens…he a diver and that yaya tackle was brilliant and drogba went into a triple backflipp from a laying down position…quite impressive.. 😉

i think the handball was a nailed on one though…

its a fucking disgrace….uefa its a fucking disgrace…. drogbas words….. they just replayed it on sky….dont think they meant to though… 😉

  59. JonJon says:

hahaha ave….. anyone would of thought i hated adebayor and wenger last night…..

i dont hate wenger though… he just needs help… i do on the other hand hate ade… 😉

  60. London says:

I don’t think that Barça player should have been sent off, he didn’t touch Anelka.

  61. JonJon says:

the only thing that puts me off with yaya is that we will lose him for a few weeks… i dont know how we could cope with that because i actually think hes a great player… shame really..

  62. JonJon says:

no he shouldnt… anelka fell over his own foot….

i think abidal should of gone in the 1st half though….

  63. London says:

You sound like you have just returned to the land of the living Jonjon. I have been steering well clear of you today for fear of getting an earfull 😉

  64. avenell says:

According to Sky no decision went Chelsea’s way..

And what a two faced tosser Andy Gray is.. they havn’t had a shot on target.. blah blah.. Who would have betted on that .. blah blah..
Barca stuck at it and full credit to them .. haha knob!

  65. JonJon says:

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/nicklas-bendtner-official-statement

has anyone seen this….i seen the photos of nic and to be honest i didnt think it was him….

but it looks like it was….

    what do you guys think….

i think he needs dropping to be honest….

  66. avenell says:

He was on Arse.com and apologised.. jonjon..
What has he done so wrong though??

  67. London says:

I was going to say the same thing

  68. JonJon says:

haha london im sorry… im sorry to everyone if i upset them….

i turned the TV off at half time… and i was going to leave it off but i had to watch….self torture… 😉

i broke the remote and two mugs of tea…. 😦

i just cant beleive the way we went out of both semis… we went out without a fight….

we need more backbone but how we achieve that im not sure…

im sure wenger will sort it out though… i hope.. 😉

  69. JonJon says:

the rumours are he was shagging some bird in the toilets…

  70. JonJon says:

i can understand why he did it…if he loves the club it makes sense…but he still needs to know that its not professional….

its a shame because im getting the impression we are a team of party boys and thats mot good…

  71. London says:

Nothing to apologise about mate, I understood.

As for Nikki, I understand even more. Drop him Jonjon? That seems a bit harsh.

  72. JonJon says:

    maybe not drop him….

id prefer to drop ade and let bendtner play the remaining games…but maybe a fine????

let him make it up in the remaining games???

  73. London says:

I thought he played well under the circumstances yesterday. At least it looked like it meant something to him, sorry to bring it up you can ignore this if you want.

  74. chaf says:

    Nic scored at last….

Drogba, what goes around comes around you cheating tosser.

Any man that gets carried off, on average, twice a game is lying to himself.

He is a piece of shit.

  75. JonJon says:

    who bendtner or ade, london???

  76. chaf says:

The Strongbow super is kicking in….

  77. JonJon says:

hahaha chaf… drogbas a world class turd… he deserves that… couldnt of happened to a nicer bloke… 😉

  78. London says:

He will get a token fine, so the club are seen not to be condoning his behaviour and I fully expect him to play the remainder of the games.

  79. chaf says:

I’m a conversation behind here, but I agree Nic was doing his best….

  80. chaf says:

I’d rather go out for a drink with Nic than Ade. Every time its his round he’d be offside.

  81. London says:

    Jonjon

Bendtner played well when he came on 😉 Ade? I’m nowhere near as far as you guys are but I certainly agree we could do better.

  82. avenell says:

Drogba’s stats 0.65m high (not inc stretcher).. 2.03 metres wide..
Thierry hat trick in the final..

  83. JonJon says:

    ahhh nikki….

yeah he tried…so did nasri…. it was the big guns that let us down…

does anyone think that theo isnt going to make it and we need better strikers than both ade and rvp???

  84. London says:

    Evening Chaf

Actually seeing that picture of Bendner has made him go up in my estimation, I mean lets face it, we have all been there.

  85. JonJon says:

id love thierry to smash the mancs…. if we cant win it i want him to…. i dont like the fact he left us but after all he did for us i wont deprive him that…

what id give to have him back…even at 31…

  86. London says:

I think Theo cost us the title last year but this is a bit deep for this time of night so I will bore you with that theory another time.

  87. JonJon says:

hahaha thats true london…. nikki deserves some slack i think… but wenger still should have a little word…

like dont get caught next time… 😉

  88. London says:

    Why wasn’t he playing tonight?

  89. London says:

Don’t get caught next time LMAO

  90. avenell says:

He had a knee injury, from the weekend against RM..

  91. chaf says:

    Evening London

Yeah, good on him, not enough characters in football now. Just a bunch of highly paid tossers, moving around from one job to another, kissing their shirts. You wouldn’t get someone in the Co op kissing their shirt because they served you correctly…

  92. JonJon says:

i was convinced this was theos year but he just hasnt done enough…. i know hes young but he offers nothing else but pace and if wenger doesnt trust him upfront then maybe we should cash in on the millions we would get for him and use the money for weak areas of the squad…

  93. JonJon says:

    hahaha chaf…. 😉

  94. London says:

The old Strong bow is kicking in 😉

  95. London says:

    I’m thirsty now

  96. JonJon says:

perry groves in on your on sky sports…this should be interesting if a gooner calls in..

  97. London says:

Ok, I’m calling it a night chaps, talk tomorrow.

  98. JonJon says:

    night london..
