Ade-out the back door

The summer transfer window was a difficult one for the majority of Gooners to swallow. We saw players that were and integral part of our dynamic midfield AKA Hleb, Gilberto and Flamini leave and we saw nobody of note brought in to replace them…..Samir Nasri, a young unknown talent from France was our only major signing and Wenger papered over the cracks in the rest of the squad by adding crocks such as Silvestre and Bischoff(who)… For many Gooners the season was doomed from the start…. Most of us knew we’d need more than an unknown French Starlet and a £5mil 17 year old Aaron Ramsey to fill the gaps left by the losses we endured, including long term injuries to Rosicky and Eduardo…Yet the biggest regret coming into many Gooners minds is the Adebayor saga.

Adebayor has never been known as a lethal assassin, out and out striker, but more of a plan B striker….used to come off the bench and act as a battering ram against stubborn defences to let our more technical, gifted players such as Cesc, Rosicky and Robin rip them apart. Yet last year due to injuries to Dudu and Robin, Adebayor found himself as our number one striker and he bagged himself 30 goals. Plan B had without choice become plan A, but with a midfield of Rosicky, Cesc, Hleb and Flamini playing beautiful football behind him, tearing teams apart and putting his chances on a plate, it wasn’t hard for any striker to hit that amount. Bearing in mind he still missed half of them ‘on a plate’ chances, such is his pathetic finishing!!!

To be honest I was astounded when I heard that teams such as Milan and Barca were ready to come in for him with a £20-30mil bid, like most of us were I presume and the first three words that crossed my mind were SELL, SELL, SELL!!!!!!!!

I was even more astounded when Ade, with a little help from his agent, was whoring himself around Europe and demanding the same wages as a certain Thierry Henry to stay at our beloved club. The first three words to cross my mind  then was SELL SELL SELL!!!!!!

Adebayor knew he had Wenger by the short and curlies… We were a team already rocked with key departures of Hleb(cough cough) and Flamini, we were a team with long term injury and fitness doubts to other key strikers in Robin and Dudu and we were a team with no other attacking cover other than unproven youngsters in Vela, Bendtner and Theo.

Surprise, surprise, the bid for Ade was rejected and he was given a new improved, bumper, triple your money wage rise…. After one good extremely lucky season????? I was furious with him and I bet I wasn’t the only one. Then again I bet Wenger was seething too… Ade showed tremendous amount of bottle to do what he did and under the circumstances he got away with it.

The only thing Ade didn’t think of is that he had another 5 seasons to go and prove he was a top, top striker at a top, top club like Arsenal.

The new wage that Ade was rewarded with also came the extra burden that Ade had put himself as the clubs top striker, therefore meaning he was numero uno and he was now expected to hit 30 goals every season, such as a certain Thierry Henry. We all know this was never going to happen and i think Wenger did too.

Ade isn’t the type of striker who can make a goal for himself, he relies on others to do it for him and without the likes of Rosicky and Hleb in the team and with new boy Nasri still adapting to the English game, he has struggled. Plan B has now with choice become Plan A, but hes too stupid to be a Plan A striker. The beautiful, fast flowing, on the deck football that we have become so accustomed to and well renowned for around Europe under Wenger, is almost non existent with Ade in the team….His poor work rate, poor first touch and overall lack of intelligence means all our good build up play is stifled when it comes to the final third…..he gets caught offside more times than he can count and he cant finish his dinner… The one thing that made him so effective last season was his work rate, that was 75% of his game, but that has arguably disappeared along with his goals and we are now stuck with a lump on the pitch and a lump on the wage bill too…

Ade continues to state his undying love for the club, this is simply because he knows he’s not been value for money this season…. yet he says to be linked to Milan was like being told Beyonce was after his heart…..Something tells me we are to expect another one of his pantomimes this summer…

If this happens again I expect everything to be different this time…..Robin has proved his fitness….. Dudu, although not yet fit (and Wenger has appeared to have wrapped him in bubble wrap along with Rosicky until next season) is remarkably healed and has already started scoring goals that will be remembered in the annals of Arsenal history(Burnley FA Cup)… Bendtner is rapidly proving he can do Ade’s job(even miss chances like Ade, but he is younger, hungrier and is on a lower wage) and we have Vela, Theo and now a true, humble superstar in  Arshavin, who can all play striker. Even without Ade in the team we still are left with 6 forwards….. and if we include Simpson(who does actually love the club and will run his arse off if he gets the chance) we have 7.

Adebayor pissed Wenger off in the summer and I think he pissed most Gooners off too. Hes done naff all this season and that was foreseen by many of us…. Ade will be sold this summer…The only problem is what team in their right mind would still pay 20mil for him and match his wages???? Are you listening Man City???

Top of the morning JonJon, and top script about dear Ade, I mean by that Oh Dear Ade, I think your time has come, start packing old man, your days are numbered 😛

  2. JonJon says:

    I fancied a rant rico… 🙂

im sick of him…i really am…

  3. rico01 says:

JJ – I am sick of him too, lazy useless lump, and try as hard as i have to see something in Nik, I cant and I would rather they both went and we get one big goal scorer like Eto or Villa – had we had a goal scorer this season we would be fighting for first, not securing 4th spot 😦

I know, many will say Nik is still young, does a lot in the game etc etc, but i judge a striker on goals, and he aint scoring 😦

  4. Rasputin says:

Congratulations JonJon on an excellent post and somehow managing not to type in the many expletives that must have been going through your mind whilst composing your words of wisdom.

Like you, I was amazed that so called big clubs were reportedly interested in Ade and doubt that anyone will want to match the ridiculous wages we are paying him. Even if he scores a hattrick in the CL final – I still want him gone!

  5. rico01 says:

Did you guys see what i posted earlier about the rumour that Ade’s agent has been told to find him a club in the summer ??

  6. Rasputin says:

yes, I saw that on NN this morning rico – I pray its true… 😉

  7. rico01 says:

    Me too rasp 😉

  8. Rasputin says:

I’m surprised that the opinions expressed in JonJon’s post haven’t prompted/provoked more response. So far no-one in favour of keeping Ade? I know on other sites he has plenty of admirers.

So in response to a non-existant Ade supporter on here, I would argue the following. Its OK for goalkeepers to be goalkeepers, and for centrebacks to be centrebacks (if you know what I mean), but ideally, everyone else should be able to play Wengerball – and Ade can’t/doesn’t. He’s a square peg in a round footballing hole!

  9. Big Raddy says:

Let’s have a group prayer. An Adebayor hatrick in the CL Final and then offski for a bundle.

We spend the money on a DM and a CB.

    Lovly Jubbly

  10. Rasputin says:

I’ll second that motion Raddy 🙂

  11. kelsey says:

    Nice post JonJon,
I can feel the frustration in your post about Ade.I would like to put another angle on our striking options.None of us,I believe, know the true extent to Eduardo’s fitness, and it has already been explained that after such a long absence through injury, little niggling injuries are bound to happen. However we have a huge game tomorrow and if Eduardo is not in the squad, perhaps his injury is worse than first thought, because there is no doubt that he is our most clinical striker, and if more or less fit,it wouldn’t be the first time Wenger had played someone for at least part of a game, who could possibly change the result.I think Wenger will decide during the summer that he would be better to offload Ade and bedntner and replace them with one out and out striker, but that again depends on Walcott progressing, and playing more central, and the fitness of Eduardo and even Rosicky.i think vela will be loaned out again, otherwise he would have featured more in the last couple of months.he’s fit,but to the boss obviously not ready yet.Ramsey and Wilshere have already been put to bed for the season,so our options in a depleted squad,at least for the time being are even less than at this time last year. With Gallas missing,Wenger really needs a master plan for tomorrow and the rest of the season.Let’s hope he takes heed.

  12. Rasputin says:

Some very interesting points kelsey. Hasn’t Eduardo been on the bench recently or is my memory playing tricks?

  13. kelsey says:

I am not sure but Eduardo definitely wasn’t on the bench against Boro or Chelsea, but i think he was the game before that.can’t remember if it was liverpool or the game before that.

  14. kelsey says:

Arsenal (from): Almunia, Sagna, Toure, Silvestre, Gibbs, Nasri, Song, Denilson, Fabregas, Walcott, Adebayor, Fabianski, Djourou, Eduardo, Bendtner, Diaby, Vela, Ramsey, Eboue.

That’s the squad,so i was completely wrong about ramsey and vela and eduardo is in the squad.Oh to be a pundit 🙂

  15. Rasputin says:

Looks like Clichy’s recovery from injury is taking longer than expected – could be a blessing!

  16. Big Raddy says:

I’m not sure Rasputin. Clichy usually plays well against MU. He is proven quality, and I would definitely pick him ahead of Gibbs.

  17. Big Raddy says:

If it is true that MC have offered £40m for a 28 y.o Eto’o , we will never buy an established striker. How much must the younger Villa be worth. Benzema is still a toddler (surely RM bound)

  18. Rasputin says:

You may be right Raddy – although to throw him straight back in against manure might be asking a bit much. He hasn’t had his best season and is prone to one or two potentially costly errors every game. Gibbs sometimes leaves gaping holes at the back and you can’t allow Ronaldo to get up a head of steam and run at you.

  19. JonJon says:

    good evening guys….

today was hectic at work i couldnt get on line at all and im totally exhausted…

whats that rumour that people are talking about??? regarding ade??? i cant find it…. 😦

  20. kelsey says:

MC will kill football with their endless pot of gold.i get your point though, and what is Ade really worth even in today’s market.

  21. kelsey says:

Actually for all the stick Senderos got,I agree that defensively Clichy has made quite a few blunders going back to the Brum game last season. The only good thing is that we seem to have a conveyor belt of left backs at the club.

I can’t find it either, rico mentioned something and so did another blogger who knows Pat Rice who reportedly told Ade to get his finger out of his arse, bag a few goals to increase his value,so he can be sold in the summer.

A bit like after the horse has bolted.

  22. Rasputin says:

It was on NN this morning kelsey/JonJon – but I can’t find it now. I can remember whose article it was. I doubt there’s any truth to it.

  23. JonJon says:

What was it about???? Does he want more money??? 🙂

Man city can try to kill football…but no household name will join them….

Mancity were going to buy kaka, ronaldo, cesc, pele, best, moore….. and they ended up with bellamy and de jong…and they paid over the odds for them too to make it look good….

city wont even be in europe next season…

i know they can pay players silly wages…but when the players they are after are already superstars and earn millions anyway…and they win trophies…why go to city…

i wasnt worried about city at all at the start of the season….and i wont worry about them next either…

  24. London says:

Evening all, I am a bit confused as to why some people seem to be more repulsed by Manchester City’s wealth than by Manchester United’s for example.

  25. JonJon says:

    I’ll tell you why London….

Fergie has been there so long he’s made into a world brand…..the money Manure have generated is from all the trophies and support generated world wide because of those trophies… the Glazier takeover messed them up a little though

we are in the same situation under wenger… wengers got us into a situation where in a few years we will be able to match Manure…and it will be self generated…

Mancity are just another chelsea…… no history…no years of hard graft…just a plaything for rich kids in a playground…

  26. London says:

It is difficult to argue(legal) against your 4.15. This is going to take some thought.

  27. JonJon says:

    oh and hi london….

you dont have to hide the fact you dont like the post…. i know you like ade… i was expecting something critical from you my friend… 🙂

  28. peachesgooner says:

    Evening all

What a fine post JonJon – we’ve have agreed many times over the lazybayor. At least Nikki plays good football and chases balls and wins headers which generally find another Arsenal player. Ade’s had plenty of chances to show his worth – one stunning overhead kick is not enough 😉

  29. JonJon says:

and he slipped and shinned that peaches…. 🙂

  30. Rasputin says:

    Evening London,

Don’t think you have to argue with my post @ 4:15 – you can always agree if you want 😛

  31. peachesgooner says:

    …so true, so true JJ ……. 😆

  32. peachesgooner says:

oh rasp – you got in my way 😦

  33. rico01 says:

peaches – please tell me, woman to woman, what is it you see in Nikki B 😉

  34. rico01 says:

Hey London, do men really have busy days ??? 😉 😛

  35. rico01 says:

Seen the news about Vela, he has been cleared to join the squad, having been given the all clear of swine flu after going home to see his family …

guess you are all watching the footie, so i will catch you tomorrow, nighty night all

  36. peachesgooner says:

rico – just his footballing skills I’m afraid when comparing him to lazybayor- its certainly not his hair style or choice of boots. If he doesn’t start scoring prolifically soon then all his hard work will be wasted.

    I won’t be signing up to a Nikki love-in 🙂

  37. rico01 says:

    peaches, good answer 😛

  38. peachesgooner says:

    …….now Theo…..thats a different matter… 😆

  39. rico01 says:

Ah, Theo – he is a big head though peaches, not as all sweetness and light as he wants us to believe 😉

  40. rico01 says:

ok all, def off now, be good….

  41. peachesgooner says:

Night rico – dream of a Ade hat-trick at OT 🙂

  42. Evo in Oz says:

    gday all

  43. JonJon says:

    hi evo….night rico….

the barca game is rubbish…why doesnt anyone play this bad when we play them???? 😉

  44. Evo in Oz says:

hey jonjon, would have been good for drogba to score earlier!

Cech really is shite these days!

  45. kelsey says:

before you nod off check those pigs.vela didn’t go home to Mexico he had friends come over to London to see him.So they had him checked out yesterday, told him to stay away from the stadium, and now he has been given the all clear.

I see messi has had his haircut,is that an omen.40 minutes in Chelsea’s half yet drogba should have scored.i see ared card in the second half, and nothing by either team to get terribly excited about.

  46. JonJon says:

cechs been shite for ages… and i still cant believe we dropped our most potent attacker and had only one shot against him….. 😦

someones going to get red carded kelsey…that does look on the cards…even if a goal doesnt…

  47. Wrighty7 says:

    Nice post JonJon.

Put me down for 10-0 Arsenal tomorrow please.

  48. JonJon says:

hey up wrighty… is that to us mate???? we need to get the minor details right… 🙂

    and cheers…

  49. Evo in Oz says:

nice one wrighty….ill take 10-0 too

  50. JonJon says:

thats two 10-nils… is yours to us evo..??

  51. Evo in Oz says:

i think for the line up scenario, depending on the fitness of Silvestre and Djourou, Song might stay on the bench as a back up CB. If one of the first 2 dont make the squad because of injury, there is no back up CB – Eboue and Sagna definitely arent back ups in the CB spot.

  52. Evo in Oz says:

    hahaha…of course to us!

  53. Evo in Oz says:

henry should have had a penalty there

  54. JonJon says:

yaya has dealt with essien tonight…

  55. Evo in Oz says:

ballack really is a c*nt, excuse my french – why would anyone like that bloke?

  56. JonJon says:

hahaha hleb gets a minute… LMAO..

  57. JonJon says:

id love to wallop ballack in his ballacks….he is on the 10 players id like to punch list…

  58. peachesgooner says:

no he gets at least 5 …….

  59. Evo in Oz says:

wow kleb is on, i didnt even realise, and he had a shot at goal! far out!

  60. JonJon says:

why did they get 5 mins injury time??? they werent alot of goals in that one… 😉

  61. Evo in Oz says:

the injury time is out of control these days, refs just add heaps on…

  62. chaf says:

    Good evening everyone.

That match sickened me tonight. So many cheats, Drogba with his imaginery falling over stick, both Alvase and Ballack got up quick when they had to. Its shite when it comes to this. What an advert for kids. Dive, dive, dive….

  63. JonJon says:

dive dive dive and roll roll roll….

  64. chaf says:

Loads of rolls, almost a bakery

  65. chaf says:

Said on the news that Gibbs is a doubt, have you been through that tonight?

  66. JonJon says:

    haha chaf…

i heared gibbs had a problem… i hope he plays…i want to see him tested against the world player of the year…

  67. chaf says:

I enjoyed reading the post JJ. I can’t make my mind about him. On one hand I find him a lazy greedy git who misses half his chances, but on the other hand he did score a load of goals last year and he’s been injured this year. I think I sway towards the former but it’s 40/60. But he doesn’t cheat, so the Chavs would never sign him.

  68. Evo in Oz says:

i didnt like gibbs last year, but ive changed my mind

  69. chaf says:

    World player of the year….

Another player who relies on cheating in his game.

  70. chaf says:

yeah, hello Evo, he’s come on in leaps and bounds, so to speak. Born in 1991….

  71. chaf says:

Another thing while I’m here. Ferguson was on the box earlier, what a hooter. Magnificent, a true red.

  72. JonJon says:

i never rated gibbs as a LB…i always liked him at LW… ive changed my mind when i seen him play in the CC… i really want him to do well…even if it means ousting gael…

ive never rated adebayor chaf..even after last seasons goal tally….some of the chances he missed was terrible…and dont forget he went missing for a couple of months after xmas… the same months we let the title go….he was trouble at monaco and he was always being fined or always benched…wenger gave him a chance and look how he’s repayed him…

  73. chaf says:

And seeing as I’m talking to myself, my score tomorrow is 1-1, their score first. My heart tells me its dangerous, my son tells me I’m getting old….

  74. chaf says:

He scores some fantastic goals though. I think they all went missing after xmas, Gallas went walkabout on the pitch, how could people forget that.

There’s no scruples in football nowadays, agents, the wives, the money, if he were born near Highbury, I’d be really upset, but they’re all journeymen.

I’m not blindly defending him, the loyalty is not an issue now. Its all money. At least he’s not sending spam junk mail telling you have been chosen by his family to be their representative to pick up two billion dollars, please send your bank details…

  75. Evo in Oz says:

    nice wit chaf…i like it!

  76. JonJon says:

thats a good point chaf… nicely put 😉

and your right its all about the money….and the way we pay our players is the reason why they either leave us or they kick up a stink… its not like we win anything is it….

  77. chaf says:

    JJ, Unfortunately right.

Ever since the new stadium malarky, we’ve been playing for fourth place. Thats why I went off the boil. £1,300 for a season ticket and at the beginning of the season you know we’re not going for the title. I can’t live with that.
I know we do things ‘the right way’, yep, thats AFC. But I would like to win things. Players move to us to improve their game for a couple of years, thats all. Fab4 was the last great, as a potential, but we were winning things then. No wonder he has a crocked smile….

  78. JonJon says:

He wont be here much longer chaf….not if things dont change…. why would he stay when he can go to a club thats

    1..close to his heart.
2..would pay him more than he gets here
3…play just as good footy as us…if not better
4…see silverware more than once in a blue moon…

theres nothing wrong with doing things the right way…but when the right way isnt working its obvious it isnt the right way….not when like you say…fans are forking out over a grand just for a season ticket in the middle of a recession and the best we can hope for is fourth place and a couple of semis….

lets hope we win the CL…that will make it all better…

  79. chaf says:

Yeah mate, sad but true. I think we are punching above our weight at the moment, so I’ll be surprised if we go on the CL final. But stranger things have happened…

  80. benwell says:

Never been convinced about Barn Door, but I know the Mancs hate him and he normally does better in the bigger games, so I think we will have to go with him for the rest of this season and hopefully cash in when some demented president sees him as a vote winner! He was caught offside more times than Fulham last season.

Chelski showed what an adventurous team they are!

Lets take it to Manure tomorrow and hopefully keep faith, shape and disipline!

  81. rico01 says:

Morning Roadsters didnt watch all the game, but did manage to catch old Drogba auditioning for the 2012 games, all that was missing was the gym mats!!

I thought Barca would win last night, and easily, but I gather Cech was back to his best, shame..

The important thing for us tonight, whoever plays up front really must ‘get in the face’ of VDS, he is flappy and if we get an early goal passed him he will be very nervous..

Please all think of me, and fingers crossed plaese that my hospital appointment is on time…. ;)Grovel grovel

  82. kelsey says:

    Morning rico,
firstly hope all goes well at the hospital, these post natal clinics don’t usually take that long,so my wife tells me. 😉

I actually stayed up and watched the match last night, and allowing for the fact that all semi finals have naturally so much at stake, the game was just a physical battle with players from both sides intent on getting each other booked.Chelsea did their job admirably, but 0-0 doesn’t give them the advantage most think they have. They actually have a poorer goals conceded at home in the last few months, but having said that,if we are to go through i would rather play Barca anytime.

So on today and we go into the game as underdogs and with a depleted defence.I would take a draw of any description tonight,1-1 being preferable,if we lose concentration for a period of time, the game could be over tonight.on the other hand if either Ade or Bedntner perform half as well as their continous quotes in the tabloids tell us , we have a real chance.Wenger must pick a team with more thought than ever this Eduardo our wild card for tonight.I am covering my bets as the game is hard to predict, but the valium will be on hand.

  83. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters and Roosters 🙂

I can smugly ay that I was right about the chavs v barca 😳

It will be similar for us tonight. We will only get a few clear cut chances. If we take those, my 1:2 prediction is a possibility. If we keep slagging Lazybayor off, he’s bound to score at least once!

  84. Rasputin says:

    ay = say unless you’re a pirate 😉

  85. rico01 says:

Morning kelsey and Rasp – 1-1 1-2 – either would done me – just hope we can get at least one away goal to set us up nicely – Almunia to be the hero of the defence, Ade to be the hero of the forwards, and Cescy boy has found the net again and he loves away matches in Europe – I am getting jelly belly already and its ages yet 😦

    kelsey, haha, thanks 😛

  86. Big Raddy says:

    Morning All.

I am already tense – how the hell am I going to sit through tonight?

Wish I was going to OT. Being an armchair fan just doesn’t suit my temperament.

  87. rico01 says:

Morning Raddy, I understand how you must be feeling, its really strange, after all, its only a game of football…… pffff 😉

  88. Big Raddy says:

    Morning Rico.

My (our) emotional attachment to something that I have no control over has plagued me for most of my life.

There are so many days when I question my sanity about the Arsenal . I have tried De-Tox, and it just doesn’t work. Changed my habits, home , friends, language, and yet there is no escape. I have to accept it …. I am a Gunner until I die ! But sometimes it is very bad for my health, and tonight will be a case in point.

  89. Rasputin says:

    Morning Rico ‘n’ Raddy,

I know we’re not short of players of his type, but I am really impressed every time I see Iniesta. Messi looked messy last night and Cech is not the keeper he was.

Here’s a prediction from fantasy land. Us v the chavs in the final, Gallas to return and score the winner against his old club….stranger things have happened 😉

  90. rico01 says:

Raddy – thats funny, but not far from the truth i bet 😉

Rasp, I like your fantasy 😳

  91. rico01 says:

Who has the mighty task of writing the new post for the pre match pump up ?? 😛

    Glad its not me

  92. rico01 says:

Hope there are no knives and forks being used at OT as we go through the day, I wouldn’t put anything passed old SAF 😉

  93. Rasputin says:

I’m not sure the mancs will know how to approach the game tonight. They know we can score on the break, but they will be expecting nothing less than a 1 nil victory. We may be under tyhe cosh for the first 20 minutes, but actually I wouldn’t be surprised if they start quite cautiously.

  94. rico01 says:

Rasp, SAF said in his press conference he would take a 1-0 victory, I think you are right, the first 20/30 minutes will make or break the game.

  95. Rasputin says:

    You know everything rico 😛

  96. rico01 says:

    Cheeky 😉

  97. rico01 says:

Where is everyone, i thought all the pre match nerves would have us all up and about early…

  98. Rasputin says:

Yes…and where’s our leader with his rousing pre-match post?

  99. rico01 says:

    Rasp, writing I guess 😉

That iriot who works for AFCTV, the west ham fan who’s name i cant remember reckons we will play Denilson, Song, Nasri Cesc and Theo across the midfield, hope he is wrong!

    Bac Kolo JD Gibbs/Silvestre

    Theo Song Cesc Nasri

Subs – Eboue, Dudu, Denilson, Silvestre/Gibbs Fabianski, Vela, Nik, Merida and everyone else i have missed out 😉

  100. Rasputin says:

I’d bet my bottom dollar he’s right rico…professor cautious will revert to type…….

  101. kelsey says:

apparently if gibbs is unfit(ankle) ade will play at left back, but has been told not to stray too far up the pitch,in case he gets offside.

  102. rico01 says:

I really hope not Rasp, this is it for our season, and the best way to defend is attack, but yes, he probably will go on the all out defensive 😦

Diaby or denilson then Guys ??

Diaby for me, just behind Ade..

    kelsey 😉

  103. Rasputin says:

Rico – I don’t often disagree with you, but I wouldn’t play Diaby – he’s too unreliable. I think he’ll go for 4:5:1 any way, but if it is 4:4:2, I’d prefer to see Dudu up there picking up Ade’s shin passes 😉

  104. rico01 says:

Thats ok Rasp, just have a feeling he will play Diaby in that second striker role, bet you ave’s house he does ;P

but i would rather the 4-4-2 with dudu anyday 😉

  105. Rasputin says:

Yes rico, I can see a 4:5:1 with Diaby under instructions to play higher up the pitch and Song being told to sit in front of the back four – Denilson on the bench, Cesc to be the midfield maestro and Nasri and Theo being told to rip them to shreds down the wings.

  106. kelsey says:

I tell you what folks,if diaby plays,i can see him scoring the first goal.Just got a hunch.

  107. Rasputin says:

Whatever combination he goes for up front, we must play Nasri and Theo……I wouldn’t want Diaby to displace either of those two……

  108. rico01 says:

Rasp – indeed, sad though, i wish we would go at the b******s 😉

  109. Rasputin says:

ave….where’s my prediction of 1:2 on your chart? I posted it yesterday 😦

  110. rico01 says:

    Can’t disagree with that Rasp…

kelsey – i hope you are right 😉

  111. Rasputin says:

I’m off down the bank…..where’s Peaches, London and ave….not getting drunk already???

  112. kelsey says:

i haven’t given you my bank account details yet. 🙂

  113. rico01 says:

Good job you didnt say you were going up the bank Rasp, i would have thought you were Spiderman 😉

  114. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Well written post JonJon, but why on the eve of a CL semi final leg. The only thing that matters is going on to the final, not whether a player should leave coz he is “lazy”. Don’t get me wrong, Ade has been below par to the previous season, but so has Cesc, but i don’t see too many saying he should sod off. I mean he is being tapped up as much as ade, maybe even more by other clubs.

I really think @ this point in time Arsenal should act as one, not as a bunch of splinter groups who just aren’t happy ever coz things aren’t 100% the way they want it.

Arsenal has a semi final to win. & The Club has got there by not playing that well IMO, which goes against the fact that we are seen as a passing perfect team by the rest of Europe. The Roma game was by a bees dick, but it has got The Club to a position that all but 3 other clubs in the world would die for.

Get behind your Club, & I say that in the nicest possible way 🙂 coz I respect everyone on this sites opinion.

  115. rico01 says:

We even get injuries to our on loan players, I reckon this boy will turn out pretty good over the next couple of seasons 😛

  116. rico01 says:

Morning George – I reckon its because Ade reads AR, and now he will be all out to prove his doubters wrong, tonight will be Ade’s night 😉

  117. rico01 says:

Off for a little while – few things to get done, have a relaxing day all, you will be needing a lot of energy later to shout at your televisions 😛

  118. Rasputin says:

    Hi George,

Don’t be too hard on JonJon, I think he’s just being kind and offering us a diversion from the growing angst!!!

It’s like Raddy said earlier….we all care too much, but can’t do anything about it except suffer….and then hopefully rejoice in the outcome (hic!)

  119. rico01 says:

    Hi Spiderman 😛

    – its all very quiet today, i have been out and back and still not many around, guess its the weather being so nice

  120. chaf says:

    Afternoon all.

Henri Lansbury is England Youth captain,(and a Barnet boy) shame about that, the tackle sounded like it was meant..Typical Spuds!

  121. chaf says:

While I’m here my prediction, 1-3. to us…

  122. Rasputin says:

    Who is/where is spiderman???

  123. rico01 says:

Hi chaf – yes typical cheating scum bags 😦

Rasp, you are spiderman, you went up the bank 😉

  124. Rasputin says:

    🙂 🙂 🙂 – duuurrrrr you’re just too sharp for me rico 😉

  125. rico01 says:

    Rasp 😉

  126. kelsey says:

have you two read the AR rules, stop flirting,I am trying to have my lunch 😉

  127. rico01 says:

Get you kelsey, you shouldnt be reading whilst eating ….. 😉 😛

    What rules kelsey 😉

  128. rico01 says:

All quiet so I am off guys – catch up later or tomorrow with a bid 😛 on my face I hope…

  129. rico01 says:

    bid = BIG

  130. Big Raddy says:

OK. Just started the first beer, fired up the cooker – I am cooking a pasta with mushrooms and white sauce – and starting my pre-match build up.

I should be firing on all cylinders by kick-off.

Took the difficult decision to go with beers rather than my usual bottle of red, as I would be slaughtered by half-time if I go with the Valpolicella. A mixture of Tuborg and Carlsberg should calm me down.

How do you get through the game?

  131. London says:

    Evening folks

Just finished work and have noticed a couple of really good posts above: Raddy’s early morning, it conjured a humorous image of everyone sitting on chairs in a circle as in an alcoholics anonymous meeting and Radddy gets up and says “Hello my name is Big Raddy and I am addicted to Arsenal” and the rest of us say hello Big Raddy. I also felt a great deal of respect when reading Gnarley’s heart felt plea.

I’m nervous as hell and am going for 1-1

  132. gnarleygeorge9 says:

You are everywhere, like Cesc. Come on you rip roaring reds.

  133. Big Raddy says:

Surprised Silvester is starting. I guess he knows the way the Mancs play.

    I am going 2-1 Mancs

  134. John says:

I’m bricking it. Just coming out from behind the cushion to say 1-4 😀

  135. Big Raddy says:

Nice call John. Good to see an optimist on the site !

    Where is everyone – fressing?

  136. John says:

    what is fressing?
do you speak german or something?!

  137. John says:

ermmm, before you take that as an insult, fressen means an animal eating in german

  138. Big Raddy says:

    Exactly John …. eating.

Come on you rip roaring Gunners

  139. raif says:

we look a bit rubbish at the mo..

i see wenger couldnt help him self and sticks denilson on the wing

  140. Big Raddy says:

Almunia needs to relax and stop kicking out to Ade. He hasn’t won a single ball in the air.

  141. John says:

Raddy, thanks – I didn’t know you could say that in english 🙂

We’re starting to get a bit more of a sniff but Nasri has hardly touched the ball

  142. John says:

    arghhhh please learn to defend

  143. Big Raddy says:

I’ll take that after the terrible first 30 minutes.

Adebayor was dreadful tonight. Couldn’t trap a bag of cement, didn’t win anything in the air.

And Nik was no better when he came on. Had he buried a relatively easy header, we would be favourites.

    Gibbs – magnificent.
    Song – superb

    MoM. Almunia.

  144. London says:

I agree with your list, although, I would Toure: so often an unsung hero.

  145. Rasputin says:

I can’t believe AW didn’t learn anything from Diaby’s last dire performance. If he has to play, put him in the hole behind lazy – not Cesc, Cesc should play deeper from wheer he can conduct the play. Mind you its pointless when you don’t have anyone up front making runs. Diaby continually gave the ball away and was nearly as bad as, by far the worst player on the pitch – Adeshitlazybayorbastard.

Unfortunately JonJon’s post was prophetic. Almunia, Gibbs and Toure were magnifgicent. Gibbs did get caught out of position but showed twice as much strength and desire as the TT.

Everyone on the radio is saying its not such a bad result. I do not think our defence can stop manure scoring, and if they do we will need to put at least 3 past the best defence in the premiership. I think our chance has gone…. 😦

  146. peachesgooner says:

    Hi everyone

What is the point of playing Adebayor?????

What is the point of playing Diaby?????

These 2 are a liability to our cause.

We are very lucky that score line is only 1-0.

Agree raddy about Gibbs, Song and Almunia.

We can take them apart at the Emirates, all we have to do is score a couple and defend for our lives.

Time was, 1 player would have a bad game and we would forgive them – Ade was rubbish against Boro and rubbish again tonight. Diaby was rubbish against Chelsea, Boro and again tonight.

Six days and then we have to go through it all again.

Rico, I hope you’re appointment happened and that everything is ok.

ave sweetie 🙂 – I hope you’re gonna be up early tomorrow to chat.

    Night night xx

  147. chaf says:

Evening, if anyone is their after that exhausting game.

Gibbs was fantastic, he has no ego yet as a top player, he just played great, no hang ups. He had Ronaldo under control and Ronaldo had to go elsewhere.

Almunia was great, as was Song, Nasri grew with the game. Ade and Diaby are out of their league.

I prefer it when we play away second game. But we were playing what the Daily Mail would call the best club team in the world.

At 1-0 I thought we would lose 3-0. We didn’t. It’s still up for grabs…..

  148. JonJon says:

    evening everyone…

ive been out on the razz tonight and im dissapointed once again about how we played….

gibbs was our man of the match… kolo was good….so was almunia…. the rest were rubbish….

how many more games are we gonna be subjected to the rubbish that is ade and diaby??? how many more big games is it going to take before wenger wakes up and sees he has utter donkeys in this team…

there is one point in the match where we were counter attcking…cesc and nasri were streaming forward and manure were on the back foot…. where was the front man???? out on the fucking left wing…..leaving cesc and nasri to take on the best defensive pairing in europe on their own…

the man is garbage… utter garbage… and if we think we are going to get a 2-0 at home or better we are dreaming…

cesc in the hole again…??? manure are not boro arsene…we were crap and we deserved to lose… at not one point did we look like scoring…not one…

and why cesc continues to keep passing to his bum boy mate adebayouratosser i’ll never know…

jeez…. 1nil was a perfect result fo utd…. it should have been more…

well played gibbs… if clichy gets back into the team straight away its a football crime…

  149. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Evening all

I don’t blame anyone for being pissed off with Adethewhore. He promised to deliver, but failed to front up. & fair call post game to call it that way. But on a team thing, its only 1-0, it should have been 4-0 or worse, but the tie is alive.

The person who has made the scenario the way it is is The Gaffer. His post game talk stated that it will be a different attitude in the return leg. Well, my old frenchie, you have made it the way it is, you had better make good on your word or expect the shit to hit the fan with the fans.

Until then I’m not going to rant on about what could have been, etc, etc coz now is the time to stand as one & show solidarity. The team needs all the support it can get right now. But there will be a time for rants later. But hey has anyone seen a big fat shiela around exercising her vocal chords. No! Arsenal can still do it.

I find negative talk boring @ half tme of a fixture. Arsenal has been behind @ half time before this season & come home with a wet sail, & against good opposition like chelski. Whats stopping The Arsenal doing it again.

Please provide answers post 2nd leg 😆

Keep your peckers up Gooner mates. The job is only half over. Chamoneeeeee 🙂

    Over & out

  150. Big Raddy says:

The Ref was superb last night, shame I can’t say the same of the other Dane on the pitch 🙂

  151. rico01 says:

Good morning all, sadly didnt get to see much of the game, but from what i understand from the review is Ade was his usual, Nik came on and did nothing, Song is proving that Arsene was right to show faith, Almunia was like Superman, Gibbs was very good and other than the goal the defence was ok 😉

Oh, and we should and could have been 6-0 at the end.
Like chaf, I prefer the home game first exactly for the reason we are in right now. Lets just hope our game is a lot better in the second half of the fixture..

  152. chaf says:

    Good morning all

Yes, Raddy the ref was superb. The CL refs are now far better than the PL refs, the role has changed. Our refs buy everything. It can’t be that hard to realise that a player is cheating…

  153. Rasputin says:

    Morning roadsters,

I can’t understand all the negativity directed towards Nik. If you want to focus on individuals look no further than Ade (words cannot express my anger at his performance), Diaby and AW – AW for being so blind to Diaby’s obvious failings. I said yesterday that SAF would tell his midfield to pressurise him whenever he received the ball and that’s exactly what they did and true to form he gave the ball away on countless occassions. When Nik came on, he immediately played as part of the team (Ade never does. He was involved in link-up play and made the whole team look more threatening. He missed a header, but at least he got into postions to pose a threat. I watched Theo race down the wing and looked back to see Ade loping forward without any intention of getting on the end of a cross.

  154. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

Arsene says its going to be different in the second half of this tie – I don’t understand why he couldn’t have made it different last night!!!!

Why is Diaby preferred to Denilson who has worked his socks off all season and doesn’t get caught in possession!!!! Just taking Diaby off last night would have made a difference.

    I’m still awfully cross 😦

rico – I hope everything went ok for you last night

  155. Rasputin says:

If Diaby had to be on the pitch he should have played in the position Cesc occupied behind the striker. He can’t do too much harm there (to us!), he can do ‘tricks’ and he may get a chance to have a shot – which is one of his strengths

  156. peachesgooner says:

You’re right rasp, Cesc isn’t comfortable in that role in the hole anyway and so if Diaby has to play, he should play there.

  157. rico01 says:

Morning chaf, Rasp & peaches –

thanks peaches, didnt get home until well into the second half, having spent just under an hour in a very noisy clank clank MRI Scanner 😦

I really hope Ade leaves in the summer, I didnt see much of him last night, but even Graham taylor was saying on 5live that he was pants, and he also said that AW had played right into the hands of Manure. He said he was sad not to be seeing the Arsenal football he is used to seeing – 😦

  158. rico01 says:

Has anyone spoken to Ave ??

  159. kelsey says:

    Good morning all.

Hats off to Mr.Larsen, one of the best referee performances i have seen for a long time.
now let’s put it into perspective,we were playing the Champions of Europe in their own backyard.Did Wenger forget to tell the players this was the most important game of our season,or are we just also rans, because this season is panning out as last year and the year before that, because we just didn’t buy a couple of decent defenders last summer.Sure we had injuries, but United have looked vunerable in defence, and all we did was fire blanks.Walcott was literally squeezed out of the game, the team for the first 20 minutes looked nervous and shell shocked, and but for Almunia, the tie would have been over by half time.Adebayor had no easy task playing the lone striker against two of the best central defenders in Europe, but the few times he got the ball,he was a complete embarressment. No one played well apart from Almunia,Toure and amuch improved second half from Gibbs.A special word to the 4000 away fans, who sung their hearts out all throughout the match.
Now we have a big ask, though i am convinced we can win the return leg,but will failure to score away ultimately cost us the tie.

  160. Rasputin says:

Hi rico – no! …. I’m worried about him 😦

  161. peachesgooner says:

I emailed him last night – havn’t heard anything so far 😦 still its a bit early for him isn’t it 😉

  162. kelsey says:

Hi rico- No he has disappeared.

  163. rico01 says:

I had an email from him on Tuesday, and I know he had a real busy day that day, but its unlike him not to be around on a match day, it is worrying, just hope he and his family are all ok

  164. Rasputin says:

    Morning Kelsey,

What worries me is that AW has shown a disturbing tendency to reward a player who has a bad game with countless further opportunities to fail in the same position. Diaby was poor against the chavs in midfield and was even worse yesterday – so you can virtually guarantee that’s where he’ll be played on tuesday. AW won his point during the journeyman games of the prem and Song has become a pivotal player. Last night I would have been delighted to see eboue come on and run at their defence. He played EE when he was struggling, he has improved incredibly – so why not bring him on to provide some penetration into their box. It was ridiculous to bring Dudu on for 8 minutes.

  165. rico01 says:

Sorry kelsey – Good morning to you 😉

  166. Rasputin says:

Could I respectfully make a suggestion to those who run the site 🙂 …… A match report has to give the story of the game. Other posts in between matches do not need to be lengthy ‘works of art’ – they just serve as a thought provoking topic for discussion.

Even a few lines from someone who doesn’t have the time to write reams – almost a ‘thought for the day’ type post would be good. I reckon running a site must be really demanding in terms of time and energy. The burden should be shared wherever possible and the subscribers have a duty to contribute if they wiish the site to succeed and to enjoy what it can offer.

I hope this message is received in the spirit it is meant 😉

  167. rico01 says:

Afternoon all, where is everyone today, not still trying to get ‘that’ blood vessel I hope 😉

  168. rico01 says:

Rasp, I think that is a pretty good idea 😉

  169. Rasputin says:

    Hi rico,

I guess everyone is recovering from the mixed feelings we have after yesterday’s game. There is no doubt they should have scored more, and we’re not out of it yet….but the performance was very disappointing.

Once we start looking forward to the pompey game everyone will start feeling more positive I’m sure. I don’t think I’ll be able to watch on tuesday – more time on the compost heap for me 😛

  170. Rasputin says:

    I’m getting a complex….hellllooooooooooo……….

London, JonJon, Raddy, kelsey….all mi ‘ol mates….where are you? 😦

  171. avenell says:

    New Post.. press home.
