It takes a big man to admit his mistakes…..

Sir Arsene Wenger  OBE  CBE  has had a topsy turvey relationship with the fans this year…with insults being thrown at him branding him with  names ranging from four letter immature tirades such as c**t, which I disagree with, to less insulting,  the more truthful mature analysis of stubborn, which I do agree with…..

Le Prof has made mistakes this season, from sticking with Gallas as captain to playing Song at  right back and Eboue at Left Midfield…..Not replacing Flamini in the summer was seen as one of the biggest mistakes of this season….Yet Lord Wenger has left us all baffled with post match interviews and reluctance to back down over team selections and tactical substitutions…especially at the start of the season…..

The majority of the fans knew the summer was a destabilising one….we lost a major part of our team, almost the entire midfield and the Adebayor saga definitely had a negative effect….Well now in a frank interview Wenger has revealed the mistakes he’s made….

For those of you who haven’t yet had the pleasure to read it, here’s the link

This takes a lot of guts….it takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong and for this reason I salute Wenger…the revelations are long overdue..but its honesty nonetheless and its all Ive wanted Wenger to do all season….we all make mistakes, we are all human and none of us are perfect….

There’s something about this interview that excites me though….if you stick with me I’d like to explain…..

Its like having an addiction….you don’t see anything wrong with what you are doing and when people around you try to help you reject the advice  because you know best and you cant see the problems….admitting you have a problem is the first step to putting it right….. Is Wengers admittance to this seasons problems the 1st step to putting it right this summer???? I hope so because if we have another summer like last one I don’t think I could cope….

There’s certain parts of the interview that I would like to focus on…..

Firstly i’d like to talk about where Wenger reveals what  I thought about Adebayor in the summer… Wenger comments on the  Adebayor business, stating : ‘I’m going, I’m staying, I’m going, I’m staying’ was also an important factor. One thing followed another. Earlier this season, our game wasn’t there. Even the people who love Arsenal were saying: “This is a disaster.”

Are you listening Ade????  Wenger has finally told Arsenal fans worldwide what you did in the summer helped destabilise his young team and uses it as a key reason to why  our form at the start of the season was dodgy… I hope your proud of yourself and its up to you to put it right…..If we see another one of your pantomimes again I hope you are told to pack your bags you greedy selfish “little” man….I’ve been critical of Adebayor all season and I’ve been given some stick from several quarters for it…..not only do I think Adebayor is an average player….but I also think he’s and utter tosser….How can supporter fully support a player that even in Wengers eyes destabilised the season???? Anyone who fully supports him and players like him are watching Arsenal through rose tinted specs….and I find it patronising when I am told to give him my full support or when I’m told im not a ‘Real’ fan or a’ Johnny Come Lately’ fan for giving my opinions on this usesless selfish self centred lump…..

Secondly….I don’t fully agree that Wenger never expected Flamini to go….I disagree with Wenger here….I am one of those fans who show no hard feelings towards what Flamini did….Flamini was an excellent player for us long before last season….after all he showed his talents by playing at LEFT BACK for the majority of the 2006 CL campaign, which was an impressive one, and he never kicked up a fuss about a new contract…he was totally professional about it  all and how did we reward him?????  We dropped him for the final for an unfit Cashley and then we let his contract run down and try to flog him to Birmingham?????  He was a good squad player for all his years with us and we should of tied him down long term in 2006   cough.. Mr David “Arsenal” Dein ….He didn’t push for a new deal…he didn’t sell himself  like Ade did….he played his arse off and EARNED that move to Milan…

Thirdly….if Wenger thinks that signing superstars will kill his young players then why did he try to sign Alonso in the Summer????  and why did he buy Arshavin in January????  I don’t understand this statement…maybe he’s backtracking too far with that one…..

The interview may be seen as some as bad timing, coming in the middle of a two pronged assault on Champions League and FA Cup glory…but I see it as a mind game masterstroke….to me it says to our players that we’ve been up against it all season, yet the mighty Gunners still charge on…’Wengers Warriors’ have against all odds got themselves into a position to still achieve great heights this season….so lets prove everyone wrong and give both Chelsea and Villarreal a slice of Wengerball pie……’ve got us this far…why not go all the way???

I agree with everything you say 🙂

  2. rico01 says:

Well JJ, I am with Rasp, top post, and as much as i like a arguement, i cant with your post, except 😉

Maybe the interview is not such bad timing, maybe he is saying to the lumpy lard ade and a few others exactly what he thought of them then, and what he thinks of them now…

And that now is belief, you have come this far, now show just how good you could be and you all pull your socks up and do something for us fans

  3. JonJon says:

    hi guys thanks….

i honestly think wengers had enough of the some of the players and their egos in this team…

his recent comments on the contract situation too tell me that he’s starting to get abit ruthless….

its obvious he trusts the players and hes treated them like adults but when you havent won anything for almost 4years and certain players are demanding wage increases and acting like primadonnas etc etc…. its taking the piss out of us, him and the club as a whole….and wengers starting to show them who is really the boss….

  4. kelsey says:

That is the best post i have ever seen on Avenell Road, and i would add,as i always have a hunch, that Wenger has told ade score as many as you can,to rectify your slim chances of getting some of the fans behind you,as well as justyfing your ridiculous wages,.and come the summer wenger will sell him.

  5. avenell says:

    Nice post Jonjon..

It makes me wonder if he is fed up with Ade, he paid him his money and expected him to change and act in a profesional way, but he hasn’t..
So instead of talking to the press before Christmas when we was on a bad run, he has waited until now, so it didn’t look like he was making excuses..

  6. JonJon says:

    hi kelsey…. agree…

i think ades in the shop window…if we get a good offer wenger will take it…

i think one of diaby, denilson and song will go too… and wenger will buy a new midfielder….

exactley ave…its easier to admit you were wrong when things are going good….if he’d of done it before xmas he’d of had more fans wanting him sacked….

  7. rico01 says:

woop woop, so ade needs to go then 😉

  8. rico01 says:

Ave – there is no hole in my brownie for the lead to download my pictures 😦

My that sounds a tad crude 😳

  9. JonJon says:

not until he’s scored in the CL final….paid the fans back and upped his price to 40mil… 😉

  10. peachesgooner says:

Wonderful post JonJon – well done to you for your thoughts that so obviously echo mine…..and a few others 😆

Just to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons – Why did he give in to Ades wage demands???? I’m very happy for him to score as many goals as he can and win us as many games as he can but I still believe he was lucky last season.

  11. peachesgooner says:

Now that would be something wouldn’t it – Ade scoring a class goal in the CL final. Thierry always said he was class – come on Ade 🙂

  12. JonJon says:

peaches….i can offer an opinion to why ades demands were matched….

because we had already lost lehmann, gilberto hleb and flamini….

and we had long term injury and fitness doubts to dudu and robin…

leaving us with bendtner theo and vela…who were all unproven….

    wenger didnt have much choice…..

  13. avenell says:

I would say it was a case of.. RvP is always broken, Dudu was broken, Bendtner was too young and untried as a starter. So leaves a man who has scored 30 goals who is threatning to leave..

    You make a decision..

  14. peachesgooner says:

Its weird, I could never imagine Paddy playing without Manu or Thierry without Bobby or Kolo without Sol – Ade is on his own in our team, Robins not gonna miss him, Nikkis not gonna miss him, he doesn’t link up with anyone – its very strange……..

  15. peachesgooner says:

Yep, ave and JonJon, I’ll go with all those reasons – he was in the right place at the right time, quite literally if you think of some of his goals last season 🙂

  16. avenell says:

It’s a shame Bendtner doesn’t make more of his chances in the starting XI
If he could have been more clinical Ade would not have walked back into the team…
Now Ade rules again.. Which makes him more valuable. 😉

  17. JonJon says:

that goal against villareal will add 10mil on the tag 😉

  18. peachesgooner says:

Well Nikki had plenty of chances didn’t he, don’t get me wrong I want Nikki to succeed – hes a much better footballer IMO. Nikki and Vela were such a great combination pre-season – they looked like they were made for each other – hopefully they’ll get another chance

  19. avenell says:

When we have had successful seasons before there has always been a player who has come in and stepped up his game and became as good as the big guns.

Back in 98′ Anelka did it, since then Henry, Ljungberg and even in 2006 Fabregas came of age..
I don’t see who that player is this year and it’s a getting bit late for a new hero..

  20. peachesgooner says:

……won’t it be a shame if its Ade and then he goes……

  21. kelsey says:

    Happy hour is it ?

That answer to that peaches is …. NO

We will have an abundance of strikers in Bedntner,Eduardo,Walcott,Arshavin and RVP, the last two aren’t out and out strikers but all can score, more in the Barca fashion, the days of the single hit man are not really needed with our type of play, and I haven’t included Nasri, who has a good shot, nor rosickky(if he ever plays again) and Vela. The buying has to be done in the defensive area IMO

  22. avenell says:

I wouldn’t object if Arsene stuck with Arsh and Dudu..
He could use any two Ade, RvP, Bendtner or Walcott to get better deals in the transfer window..

Add that to a Vieira. skillful midfield type of player and a couple of better defenders.. perhaps a Lesscott type who can play in a couple of positions..

  23. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – I didn’t mean for us, I meant for him, ave was talking about heroes 🙂

  24. peachesgooner says:

ave – you’re not touting Theo again are you 😦

  25. avenell says:

Would you swap him for David Silva or David Villa??..
I would and I would think if Theo was on a decent contract the valuations would be similar..

  26. kelsey says:

My phone bill equates to your season ticket peaches 🙂

With regards to Theo,i am again a little undecided and maybe AW is too(showing his ruthless streak). The extension contrac has not been concluded and even AW has been reported to say that he had expected theo to have improved more than he has.he has bulked up,but he can be the speediest in the world, providing he takes the ball with him,and he will be in for a rough ride every time he plays, but he needs to get that final touch working better.Weighing it up,i think he will make it,but it might still take a couple of seasons.

  27. JonJon says:

if theo rejects a new deal then we should sell him too… no more being held to ransome….

  28. avenell says:

If Theo signs a new contract he is worth over £20 million jonjon would you swap him for Villa??
Then we could sell Ade and buy Silva,, bosch.. that’s what Arsene is good at..

Silva, A N other, Fabregas, Nasri.

    ……. Arshavin….

With Rosicky to cover .. luvvly jubbly..

  29. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – its dusk in N21

  30. JonJon says:

ave if their was a chance of us getting silva or ribery as a replacement id happily sell theo for 20mil

sell adebayouratwat and brikki too and get villa….

  31. avenell says:

Sell RvP and buy Torres off Liverpool as they are skint.. 🙂

  32. peachesgooner says:

kelsey – its dark in N21

  33. avenell says:

Thing is as well jonjon we have a load of £8-£10 players we could sell to add to anyone we sell..

Sell.. Ade plus Diaby.. £30 million… = Villa

RvP plus Denilson. £25 million.. = Silva

  34. JonJon says:

thats what ive wanted wenger to do for ages ave….

we know the stadium didnt donate itself and we know we are a little short on transfer pennies…but we could raise millions by selling some of our players and it would buy better players……we would improve the squad without having to break the bank….

  35. kelsey says:

peaches you have such a cultured left wing approach to everything 🙂

  36. linny goddard says:

i read thar wenger has a 40m transfer kitty in summer how many years av we heard that one so i wont belive it. if arsenal are serious about rebuilding then we have to sell the trash. e.g eboue bendtner song n denilson also selling 2 stars may not go a miss adebayor mr im bigger than arsenal has to go i dont know how he got cheek to demand all that money the true greats dint demand money or they quit. ian wright dennis bergkamp playd coz they loved the club who is adebayor n wots e one to demand that? african player of the year that essien shoud be! anywho back to selling stars selling ade n another satr cesc wud be more than enough to rebuild such a great team. altho cesc is brillient we now av arshavin who is beta e can take players on and provide the same killer pass that cesc can n also nasri in time will be as gud as cesc. now cesc is wanted by barca will we see a repeat of ade saga?? i say sell them both bring in villa and one hard arse holding mid that we missed since viera.

  37. linny goddard says:

rvp n villa would make a brillient strike team. if we cant get villa y not aguero

  38. JonJon says:

    hi linval… 🙂

ive said before after having cesc out for so long and after seeing what nasri can do in the centre i wouldnt lose any sleep if cesc wanted to leave and we got 40mil for him….

especially now if the only way we are going to attack is a cesc long ball to ade…….

  39. avenell says:

They are only going to get in the way off Wilshere, Coq and Ramsey anyway..
and we still have Eboue.. 😉

  40. JonJon says:

Eboue will be striker next season and given the no 10 shirt… with pass master on the back instead of his name….

  41. linny goddard says:

we need ready made players coz we need tropies asap we cant wait longer 4 players to get good coz wot if they dont progress like theo hasnt.

  42. JonJon says:

agueros a class striker and hes in wengers age range…

    21 i think… hes a good option..

  43. linny goddard says:

aguero frm ath madrid would not be a bad buy

  44. avenell says:

Eboue could have his name put on his back sideways, so when he is horizontal after diving it will still read correctly.. lol..

    Hi Linval..

  45. JonJon says:

he put barcas defence to the sword the last time they played….

  46. linny goddard says:

hi avenell. i like the eboue joke. id like to sell him but fink we realy would av to give him away.

  47. London says:

Have you ever seen Mad Max? During the battle where one on the gangs is tearing around on motor bikes and cars that resemble armoured stock cars, there is one absolute nutter with a leather jacket and a Mohawk hair cut, chained to a contraption, screaming to be let loose so he can join the fight. Can I please? This one is too juicy, I will try to be good. Lol

  48. avenell says:

Hi London … hehe… If you are a bad boy you have to catch the boomerang.. 😉

  49. avenell says:

We would get an nice chunky £8 mill+ for Eboue as a right back..

  50. London says:

Ohhhh where do I start 😉

  51. London says:

I know, brilliant post Jonjon, I don’t think I have ever read a post that radiated more passion.

  52. JonJon says:

we could use eboue in a swap deal…. teams in spain and italy would love eboues pace….

i heard we turned down an offer from athletico for him… we should offer cash plus eboue for aguero…

  53. JonJon says:

cheers london… good to have you back mate…. 😉

  54. avenell says:

Jonjon That is exactly what we need to do.. use our players as bait for better players.. Wengerball players

  55. JonJon says:

i cant wait for the chelsea game…. any team that conceeds three goals at home to bolton are there for the taking and if arshavin is on form we’ll take them…..

theres no better time for everton to play manure and i got a feeling its going to be a arsenal everton final….

  56. London says:

Ok niceties over, what is wrong with this picture, L’Equipe and the News of the World, just about everything you can possibly effing well think of. L’Equipe have got form on this sort of thing; they have published spurious stories before; I think the last one was about Diarra that little Dophin headed c-word and The News of the World, when have you ever been able to trust that bunch of lying, mischief making b-words. Is there anyone who seriously believes that Arsene Wenger would actually diss one of his players in public at this point of the season, FFS, he won’t even admit that Clichy f…up at Birmingham last year. It is a complete and utter bunch of lies. Here is the link, it is in French but you don’t even need to speak the language, just ask yourself where are the questions and where are the answers, there arn’t any, that’s because it is a totally made up piece of News of the World s-word, which I expect Wenger to start legal proceedings this week for deformation of character and down right lies. I’ve only just started.

  57. JonJon says:

if it is lies london then i fully expect legal proceedings too….but why would they risk that??

why would they completely fabricate an interview just to rick being sued for more money than what the stories worth????

i can understand papers making up headlines such as cesc to barca ect… but a full blown interview???? i dont believe that they would be stupid enough to do that…..

and if they are then they should be sued….. and we use the money to replace ade.. 😉

  58. London says:

Linny, we haven’t spoken, hello. I am a bit confused by your view that Aguero wouldn’t suit Arsenal! I’m not sure what you mean? As a fan I would bite your arm off for him. Can you elaborate?

  59. avenell says:

Arsene Wenger and Arsenal players are always giving interviews to that paper.. I don’t know much about them I must confess, but if they print lies..Why do they keep going back???

  60. London says:

L’Equipe really do have form when it comes to this sort of thing, they don’t seem to care at all if what they write is accurate or not. I mean, if you had such a juicy interview like that with Wenger, I’m sure you would want to give it as much credence as possible by setting it out in the most believable way possible.

Question: Monsieur Wenger what are your thoughts on Adebayors antics during the summer. Answer: I thought his actions destabilised the squad, etc Look at the piece in French, it’s bollacks.

  61. London says:

I already had it translated what interested me was how it was set out in French.

Arsenal, club, players and manager go back to L’Equipe when it suits them, when they need to get a message across. Q: Bonjour Monseiur Wenger comment ça va? A: Wenger to sell Fabregas. L’Equipe is the only sports paper in France they would welcome the publicity that litigation would bring.

  62. avenell says:

London.. I am just asking..Are you on the correct article because L’equipe is dated the 13th.. but the NOTW was dated 2 days previous??..

Unless L’equipe refresh the dates on that page..

  63. JonJon says:

he still mentions the fact the adebayor saga destablised the team….

even if parts of the interview were fabricated….we still know that adebayor did an interview on sky sports in the summer saying he wasnt going anywhere…then within two minutes he was back on camera saying his future was undecided….

adebayor still messed us about and wenger has still said the team was destablised because of it…..

the minor details may or may not have been made up but the main fact still remains…..

  64. London says:

Ave interesting, what do you think? If the NOTW article was 2 days earlier then are we to assume that they have taken something that L’Equipe wrote earlier. L’Equipe then re printed some of it because of the publicity that was generated by the NOTW.

  65. avenell says:

It’s like an episode of Jonathon Creek..

We need to find the original e’quipe one .. or did they just let NOTW feed on it first..

  66. JonJon says:

it was the professor, with the candlestick, in the library… 😉

  67. London says:

My point is that I don’t believe Wenger said that at all at any time. He will have to make a statement this week on it.

But I accept that which ever way you look at this Adebayor didn’t exactly help, the slight difference with me is I want a bit more proof that condemns him, ie. it was Adebayor who was whoring himself around Europe rather than his agent. Hopefully we will get more information this week.

  68. London says:

    Johnathan Creek (gooner)

  69. Rasputin says:

I first posted a link to the NOW article on here 3 days ago (I think) with a cautionary note – up until tonight, I haven’t read anything that suggests it was a fabrication.

  70. London says:

It’s been fun chaps, I’m off now. I would have liked an answer from Linny. Aguero? I mean there just isn’t enough boxes for all the ticks?

  71. JonJon says:

    hes already condemmed london….

the only thing he can do to rectify it is if he fires us to glory…. which is why i think wenger has done the interview….

its more of a mind game between wenger and the players….

adebayor wanted the added pressure of extra money…and up until now he hasnt done anything to warrent such a rise…he’s got what he wanted and rested on his laurels….

hopefully this will put the added pressure on him to perform….

  72. avenell says:

    Cheers London.. speak tomorrow..

  73. JonJon says:

i think linny wants aguero london… he said he would not be a bad buy….

  74. Rasputin says:

Whether the article was true or not, it is clear that the majority of contributors on here would like to believe that the sentiments expressed portray AW’s feelings about our recent history. The reaction to JonJon’s post was unanimous in its praise, because it expressed our faith in AW – the great man, not football’s answer to Nostradamus.

  75. JonJon says:

sorry about the late response….been to make some supper…

    night london…

  76. avenell says:

Rasp it’s all a mystery!! we need Scooby Doo and Hleb back..

If Cesc can say papers are spewing out bull within a day, why can’t Wenger?

    okay.. 😉

  77. Rasputin says:

I wouldn’t take Hleb back for all the tea.. 😉

  78. JonJon says:

hleb can go lick icecream from diarras balls…..

next season will be all about AA….and silva and Villa… 🙂

Were there girls around for you young studs to have as pin-ups? Not you rasp cos we know you had the real thing……..

  123. avenell says:

Young Deborah Harry was around at about the right time.. 😳

  124. Rasputin says:

All this reminiscing has worn me out. Time for me to climb onto me Stannah Stairlift to Heaven. Nite nite Roadsters….

  125. peachesgooner says:

    ……and shes still around now…lucky you…..:)

  126. avenell says:

Me too Rasp.. Nita is gonna slap me about a bit when she reads this.. 😉 later mate..

  127. peachesgooner says:

He he, are you giggling to yourself rasp, very clever 😆

  128. peachesgooner says:

Nite nite guys, sleep tight xx

  129. avenell says:

    nite peaches.. x

  130. peachesgooner says:

Something for tomorrow, I was just reading through some stuff on – I know most of us think that needs a reality check sometimes but they have posted some of the Arsene interview which they say first appeared in Le Parisien – maybe this is true and L’equipe and NOTW picked it up………

  131. peachesgooner says:

Morning kelsey and rico – I’m going to bed xx

  132. kelsey says:

    Morning peaches,

Well Phil Spector wont be watching any footie for a very long time.

Scanned through the injury news,we know diaby and clichy are out,but no definite news yet on eduardo.

  133. kelsey says:

I have caredully read all the articles including the official line from, that peaches put up.

The key to nearly every blog written since last summer was the issue of not strengthening the team(by the readers) yet if you believe the recent article, which i do, there is no mention whatsoever about limited finances last summer, which could have attributed to us not strengthening the side.I still believe that Arshavin was wanted last summer, but Wenger put off his bid,to see if Rosicky and even RVP would remain fit,or in rosicky’s case, actually come back into the side.Although prolonged we did sign him and the quoted fiqure of 15/17 million was payed, and therefore available.

Wenger rightly points out that losing 5 of our opening 14 games, put paid to out title hopes, yet here we are with one leg in the semi final of the Cl, a semi final in the cup and baring some dreadful run we have consolidated, with an average team, major injury loses to key players, and hopefully the lesson has been learnt for next season. We need quality not quantity, and a team spirit without too many egoistic players who can play a major influence on the younger players, and cause unnecessary disruption within the squad.I really believe that Wenger now realises that youth alone will not win you trophies, and as mentioned before i think an injection of money by Kroenke, during the summer and the key to see if lady Nina sells(which is the trump card)will set us up nicely for next season.

  134. Rasputin says:

    Morning Roadsters,

Excellent research peaches – we can clearly see that the article verifies the key points on NoW and L’Equipe. Journalists will always use ‘artistic licence’, but it is a frank and in my opinion very cleverly timed article from AW. If he’s have said those things at Xmas when things looked dire, he’d have been lambasted, but now that we have turned things around it can only have a positive effect.

  135. avenell says:

    Morning the Roadsters..
I am going to have a look about..

  136. London says:

I write your name there so as to make it clear that this message is principally aimed at you, when your name is not there I am making a general comment not directed at anyone, a bit like when I am invited to write the main post above, and I emphasise the word invited because that is what I am. We are all Arsenal supporters; we just chose to support our team in different ways.

I’m all for the positive effect that anything has on the team but I am far from convinced that verifies the key points; if anything, it highlights the exaggeration and spin that L’Equipe and The News of The World put on an interview which was given to Le Parisien rather than — “The most revealing interview given by Arsène Wenger to date” — given to L’Equipe as NOTW claimed, What we need, in my opinion, is to see the original article including the date, do you have a link?

  137. avenell says:

London.. Did you read the article Peaches pasted in from the official Ars.con website?

It is the interview from the Parisien, as it is on the official website that indicates to me that Arsene has given it the all clear..

I don’t see why Arsene never gives such frank interviews to our own site, he just spins belief and other over used words..
    morning by the way!! 🙂

  138. London says:

    Ave Morning

The club have only released a section of the interview, I was looking for the original, the date is so important.

Kelsey has been taking a mauling on ACLF this morning!

  139. kelsey says:

did you receive the comment to you from myself, that ave decided would be best for you and you alone see, and therefore he e mailed it to you, and hopefully that you would reply to me.

We all have different opinions, that’s what makes life and the blogs interesting and all we want is for all us to act in a courteous manner.

  140. kelsey says:

    No problem,
i just dipped my toe in there as a few other bloggers I know were on there,as i was only drawn to the site through a headline on newsnow.i certainly don’t need that,as i was as usual quite polite,so i wont be back.thanks for your concern,London.

  141. avenell says:

    Morning Kelsey..
I think that was the site that was the catalyst for the “AKB” thing..
Reading the responses to you, I can fully understand the frustrations of trying to get through to supporters who just wear rose tinted specs..

Although I find it equally frustrating when it is the complete opposite..

  142. Rasputin says:

You’re like a dog with a bone, maybe you should re-read JonJon’s headline! I have never had a problem with your opinions, just your use of this site to attack other sites and the occassional lapse into cyber bullying when you disagree strongly with someone.

I want to bring an end to this ridiculous ‘crossfire’, let’s move on shall we 😉

  143. London says:

    You have a deal.

I would like to give your email a considered response.

  144. Rasputin says:

    London 🙂

  145. London says:

I don’t know if I am missing something but the link you gave only takes me to an article on Gallas, I have spent most of the morning trawling through Le Parisien with no luck. To answer your question. I do speak French, which is not as good as my Spanish but better than my Italian, I’m not trying to show off, although, I must admit, they are very useful tools when it comes to European away games.

  146. avenell says:

There was a search box in the corner I was trawling through.

I put Arsene Wenger in but when the search results came up I couldn’t read them.. So I had to keep google translating it. I just thought if you could read French you could do it a bit quicker..

    El London.. 🙂

  147. Rasputin says:

Nice to hear that RVP is thinking positively about extending his contract. I’d like to think the competition for places and AW’s tougher stance on contract negotiations (possibly encouraged by Gazidis) has made all the players realise that no-one is indispensable.

  148. Rasputin says:

We could really do with Drogba picking up an injury tonight. He generally gives our best defenders a torrid time so I fear for our ‘makeshift defence’. I will be very interested to see what back 4 AW picks for the chav game – maybe he will learn something from the line-up against Villareal.

  149. kelsey says:

    Don’t shout at me lads,
but doesn’t it show you how much we miss DD, at least with player transfers, contract negotiations etc.Gazidis or whoever should have been appointed a lot earlier, though I except there was a lot going on behind closed doors in the boardroom. Even Karen Brady was touted as CEO

  150. JonJon says:

weve missed the ceo….we havent missed DD

  151. peachesgooner says:

    Morning xxxx

  152. Rasputin says:

    I quite like a pair of DD’s 🙂

  153. Rasputin says:

Bad timing posting that just as Peaches comes on 😳

  154. Rasputin says:

    For the ornithologists 🙂

  155. peachesgooner says:

    Hi rasp 😆

  156. peachesgooner says:

rasp – it says Penduline not Pendulous 😳

  157. Rasputin says:

Apologies to JonJon and kelsey – I’ve just hijacked your serious debate…..

I’m undecided on DD. He clearly had a brilliant working relationship with AW. He is a very intelligent man. He does love the Arsenal through and through. So why did he sell his shares to Usamov. If he neede the money, he surely could have found a more appropriate buyer

  158. peachesgooner says:

What do I want to happen tonight?

I’d like pool to come back from the death and crush the chavs with both teams sustaining lots and lots of injuries……..

  159. peachesgooner says:

Its a bothersome conundrum rasp, I agree that it now seems a strange thing to do on his part – but – at the time the board were dead against Kroenke so maybe he thought the russian would be better received…….

  160. peachesgooner says:

……or he only saw the pound signs cos really that usmanov is so ugggllllyyyyy…..not that I’m judgemental about these things 😳

  161. peachesgooner says:

    Hows my spelling today rasp?

  162. Rasputin says:

    gud paches

  163. JonJon says:

    no worries rasp

i dont really have time for debate…i was just giving mu opinion on it…. 😉

  164. rico01 says:

Afternoon guys and gals – Diaby is fit for tomorrow..

  165. raif says:

oi oi roadsters… i got a good feeling we can do it tomorrow.

hopfully bang in a few goals aswell.. but lets hope the team sheet is the right one.

as we was very lucky to walk away with a away goal n the last game

  166. kelsey says:

I was just having a siesta when I had a dream about rasputin and something to do with DD. I then realised my wife had brought me up a cup of coffee 🙂

  167. rico01 says:

Djourou is definately out as is Almunia and Clichy

Dudu and Diaby have trained and ready to play – Dudu for me is a must to start

Hi raif – all good with you i hope

  168. kelsey says:

I would play Diaby in defence,as long as he doesn’t go walk about up the field, but really I prefer him in attack.Dudu, has all the european and national experience for this game and I hope he starts.

Hi raif, opened up any new sites lately 😉

  169. rico01 says:

dudu is massive for tomorrow, he wont miss a chance, unlike our other half wits 😉

    Bac Song Kolo Silvestre

    Theo Cesc Diaby Nasri

    Dudu Ade/Robin ?

    Home win – 3-1

  170. kelsey says:

i think that is about right for tomorrow, though Gibbs might keep his spot instead of Silvestre, remember silvestre has also had one game back, and Gibbs is the more natural LB.

my prediction as i said before is 2-1 to us,WE MUST GET OUT OF THE TRAPS AND SCORE AN EARLY GOAL

  171. rico01 says:

Just have this sneaky feeling kelsey, arsene wont trust Gibbs against a team like V’rreal, and will go for more experience.. But he does have more pace than Silvestre, its a tough call 😉

  172. peachesgooner says:

    Everyone well I hope

I agree about using Sylvestre instead of Gibbs

  173. peachesgooner says:

Where do we play Dudu? Arsene will want to start with Ade and Robin I reckon………

  174. peachesgooner says:

I only said hello and you’ve all disappeared 😦

  175. rico01 says:

    Hi peaches – I am here 😛

  176. peachesgooner says:

I was gonna have to either talk to myself or go to the supermarket!!!!!

    We’re gonna have spanish weather tomorrow I just heard – 19 degrees…….

  177. peachesgooner says:

How rude of me, how are you?

  178. rico01 says:

Wow, thats fab news, all our boys should have no excuses and no gloves tomorrow then..

I really hope he starts with dudu and robin, Ade and Nik are better coming off the bench.. dudu will grab a couple of goals in the first half and then be subbed with twenty mins to go 😉

  179. rico01 says:

peaches – are you still talking to yourself 😉

I am not bad thanks, how about you..??

AVENELL – Where are you ????

  180. peachesgooner says:

Sounds like a plan………whatever happens I hope our boys are in the mood for fabulous football

  181. peachesgooner says:

I’M HERE STILL TALKING – story of my life really….

rico – did you sort out the photos

  182. rico01 says:

peaches – i have just emailed a couple to ave, but typical, he is nowhere to be seen… 😦

  183. peachesgooner says:

I have to check on my plants – back in half an hour xx

  184. kelsey says:

I think our manager has learnt mind games for once and for allwith some players.he might not start ade as in the last game, don’t let him get to complacent,i think Eddie and RVp would start,i wish we could clone AA.

  185. kelsey says:

I think ave has left this site on remote control,or auto pilot. 🙂

  186. peachesgooner says:

Cloning AA what a brilliant idea 😆

  187. rico01 says:

Where is that old bugger, he is meant to be watching over us all 😉

  188. peachesgooner says:

It would appear that we are so well behaved he can go and do some work 😆

  189. kelsey says:

I have two reasons why I want Chelsea to win tonight.
    1) for rico’s sake
    2) we have a much better cup record against Chelsea than Liverpool in recent years if by some chance they get to the Final, instead of Barca.

  190. peachesgooner says:

No no no – i never want Chelsea to win anything 😦

  191. avenell says:

Hi all, Did you miss me..?? 😦

Rico’s famous birds are in Girlie Bits for viewing.. 🙂

  192. kelsey says:

stop arguing with me peaches or you will go into moderation or be confined to the girlie bits 🙂

  193. kelsey says:

in that second picture it looks like the hen is just about to take a penalty, but Helen looked it up not me.

  194. avenell says:

I always wear a dress and high heels, when I do work in there.. 😉

  195. peachesgooner says:

    I’ll behave I promise 🙂

Ave – I’ve tried leaving a comment in the Girlie Bits but it just disappeared – twice……..

  196. peachesgooner says:

ave – you’ll have to put a pic of that up aswell then 😆

  197. avenell says:

WordPress spammed them Peaches.. one’s in now..

  198. avenell says:

I sometimes go down the shop in Nita’s moshulu clog sandal things.. When I cannot be bothered to get the trainers down.. much to Neets

  199. peachesgooner says:

WordPress must have known kelsey had put me on a warning 😳

…….if chelsea win I’d like the ground to open up and swallow them all…….

Hi ave, how do you feel today?

  200. peachesgooner says:

    …..not exactly cross-dressing ave 😆 …..

  201. avenell says:

I feel about the same… I have got to press up 10 Hen night T shirts tonight..
My imagination can run wild… mmmm

  202. kelsey says:

This isn’t funny, but in TV news just now, they said they have found a fifth part of the man who was killed with a single stab wound,in 2 different counties,Herts and Leicestershire. the DC in charge said
” the man was between 5’6 and 6′ foot tall and of either white, asian or mixed race” huh.

  203. peachesgooner says:

Ooooh company – how nice 🙂

Surely they must know what race he is by now?

  204. peachesgooner says:

Beer or wine for tonights game?

  205. avenell says:

Kelsey .. the torso was found within 1 mile of the River Rib.. True..

I used to live within 2 miles of where the body was found and my workshop was within 2 miles of where they found the left leg..

  206. avenell says:

And I have never been to the Leicestershire by the way and I have a alibi lol..

  207. rico01 says:

Hello all, thanks ave for putting the pic’s on, when we first put their ball in, they all chased it 😛

kelsey – thsnks for your support, i bloody hate the dippers 😉
But I must add, I want Barca to destroy chelsea in the semis 😛

  208. rico01 says:

peaches – how can you want that one man band to win anything, especailly as they always cheat against us ? 😉

  209. rico01 says:

sorry for my spelling rasp 😦

  210. peachesgooner says:

rico – that one man band are playing awfully well without him, maybe its just him you don’t like 🙂

Hate chelsea more thats all it comes down to……hate spuds more of course 😆

  211. peachesgooner says:

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 0-2

  212. peachesgooner says:

    Wheres my comment gone ave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  213. rico01 says:

peaches – i hate liverpool with such passion, it all relates to one supporter who did some serious harm to me and mine – dont get me wrong, i dont like the russian camp either, but out the two, and for one night only 😉

anyway, thats my problem, and i really understand why you would rather they make a big come back and beat the John Thomas brigade 😉

  214. JonJon says:

    hi guys

i really dont know what to think now…

chelsea need the half time whistle and how many penalty shouts does carragher get away with???

  215. rico01 says:

Blimey, didnt realise the dippers are 2-0 up, you may get your wish peaches 😛

  216. peachesgooner says:

Hi JonJon – have you had a nice day?

rico – we all have our reasons for having pet hates against other teams 🙂

  217. kelsey says:

I got a bad feeling about this, the pool seem to have all the luck in CL games.

  218. peachesgooner says:

Hope my wish tonight doesn’t interfere with my wish tomorrow 😦

  219. JonJon says:

pool are the jammiest pack of dodgers ive ever watched…. lucky goals and penalty decisions always go there way….

peaches ive had a stressful day at work and liverpool are making it worse….

  220. peachesgooner says:

Who would we rather beat in the final – Pool or Barca?

  221. rico01 says:

    Barca peaches – Barca….

  222. peachesgooner says:

Come on JonJon you must’ve fancied a bet on Pool to turn this around?

Sorry you’ve had a stressful day 😦 pour yourself a nice glass of red

  227. JonJon says:

  228. JonJon says:

    hiya nita….

has he got the marigolds on????

  229. JonJon says:

  267. avenell says:

    No worries Peaches.. Nite x..

  268. rico01 says:

Morning all, we have thunder storms and lightening 😦

  269. kelsey says:

    Morning rico
we have showers as well.I am off all day today and maybe tomorrow, will be on later.

For those who criticize Almunia,Cech looked like a clown last night.I am sure you got the result you wanted, rico.Great game for the neutral but any team that conceded 7 goals at home in the space of 3 days one must question their defence. if I don’t get back in time, put me down for 2-1 to us ave.My only concern tonight is that we don’t concede first, otherwise I feel confident.
    Have a nice day roadsters.

  270. rico01 says:

Morning kelsey, good result for me, now i hope they get thrashed by barca, another good thing is their defence leaks goals, just hope we can take heart from that for our game at the weekend 😛

    have a good day kelsey

  271. rico01 says:

Just a thought, why is the FA Cup a ‘one off’ game at the semi stage, league cup and cl both have two legs, and i think the uefa cup is to – strange …

  272. Rasputin says:

    Morning rico, Roadsters…..

Maybe its because they want to have the semis at Wembley to raise money for the FA – so you can’t have two legs at the same venue. Mind you with the fixture congestion we’ve got, we could do without another game at the moment. It will be a miracle if we come through the next 3 games without losing at least one 😦

  273. rico01 says:

    Morning Rasp – I love miracles 😛

  274. rico01 says:

Hot Chocolate Rasp, Hot Chocolate 😉

  275. Rasputin says:

    You crazy thing 😉

  276. rico01 says:

Now i am sure that is not the next line 😉

  277. Rasputin says:

To state the blindingly obvious… the next 4 days we will could either be in 1 final and 1 semi final or have nothing to play for for the rest of the season apart from CL qualification. I was praying for Drogba to get injured last night. He went down on several ocassions as though he’d been hit by a sniper, but true to form, bounced back up again. He really doesn’t need to play act like that. Let’s hope Kolo can do an ‘Ivory coast’ job on him….

  278. Rasputin says:

    Since you came along 😆

  279. rico01 says:

Wrong again Rasp, go on, be nice 😉

Put like that Rasp, its quite frightening and exciting, but could also be so depressing – i wish i had a real crystal ball…. 🙄

  280. rico01 says:

Drogba – he is one actor on the pitch, i hope he has a little rest on saturday, but king kolo will keep up with him and not give him an inch 😛

  281. rico01 says:

Whats the odds on Senna playing tonight…

  282. Rasputin says:

Feed me the next line rico? 😉

I don’t think Senna will play tonight. We have to play offensively. It never works when we try to protect a winning situation. Hiddink brought Anelka on after 30 minutes last night – I’ve never seen Aw make a tactical substitution in the first half or at half time. I think he could be braver with his subs when things are not working….

  283. rico01 says:

    Just for you Rasp 😛

  284. rico01 says:

Hope Hiddink doesnt stay at Chelsea, I didnt see the game Rasp, who did he take off? They were shocking in the first half from what I have read …

  285. rico01 says:

Rasp, have you seen that footage from the G20 protests, that woman getting a battoning, its bad

  286. rico01 says:

Rasp, Rasp – where you gone – come back, I’m all alone 😦

  287. Rasputin says:

Yes I saw that too rico. Its not something you expect to see in this country and there is no justification for it. It is true that in pretty much every other country bar Bhutan, the police would probably deal with demonstrators/rioters in a much more physical way than ours. We have to remember that the police are human and it must be scary for them. The adrenalin makes you do things you may regret.

  288. rico01 says:

Rasp, best I not air my views then 😉

  289. Rasputin says:

rico…please air your views. I only saw a brief clip in the background on the news this morning – were the police seriously heavy handed? I have no bias either way. I agree with the spirit of the demonstration, but as in most cases, people with a worthy cause often have their case undermined by others who have a different agenda.

  290. avenell says:

    Morning Roadsters..

Who’s been giving a woman a good battoning, bit early for all that?

  291. rico01 says:

Rasp, only teasing.. one minute the lady is talking to the policeman, he slaps he accross the face, she goes back to talk to him again, he draws his batton and hits her just below the back of her knees – I could understand if she was in a crowd of angry people, but it doesnt look too good – the policeman has been suspended now..

    Morning Avenell 😛

  292. avenell says:

Oh the batton was used in a different direction to what I was thinking.. 😉
    Hi Rico..

  293. Rasputin says:

Morning ave – I didn’t see that clip rico. Just plain bad behaviour, he deserves to be suspended.

What’s your prediction for tonight ave? I came so close on saturday – I want to get a point on your board 🙂

  294. London says:

Morning all, big day, big night, big week

    Did anyone notice Adebayor’s rebuttal?

  295. avenell says:

morning Rasp.. My prediction is already in.. 3-2 ..

Morning London.. If that was true the same website should apologise to him because they carried the story too..
I think it was his agent who touted him around Europe and technicaly he may be correct, but his agent represents Ade and is paid by Ade..

  296. London says:

Can I have 2-1 please, that said, something tells me that with our defence being what it is and the fact that Villareal have got to attack which will leave lots of space for us, tonight’s score line could be 8-8

  297. rico01 says:

    Morning London, how you doing

  298. rico01 says:

Ade is a numpty – I watched him tell camera’s for television that he may leave – why cant he just shut up and get on with scoring some goals!!

  299. Rasputin says:

    Morning London.

Well said rico – I saw that too, he’s doing ok why do the club feel the need to bring it all up again now? I hope Ivan isn’t into politician type spin.

Put me down for a nervy 2:1 along with London for tonight please ave

  300. rico01 says:

Chary – Morning to you, I would rather Song played there and not Silvestre – but I think Arsene may go for Silvestre’s experience

  301. rico01 says:

OOPS i have left a comment for chary – Ave please dont be offended and feel free to delete it 😦

And please find it in your heart to forgive me 😳

  302. London says:

    Very well Rico and you?

So are you saying you don’t believe what Adebayor has said on the club’s site?

The post above makes the position of the site clear; the bitter hatred of Adebayor is plain to see and unanimous agreement tells me that I had completely misunderstood the site’s ethos. What I am curious about though is at what point do you forgive Adebayor or perhaps you don’t, but if you don’t how do you watch tonight’s game without wishing him well? This is not meant to be a provocative question; I think a better understanding of the site’s mind set would be useful.

  303. rico01 says:

Rasp – I think it maybe him feeling a little insecure and needs to justify what went on – albeit he is making himself look a little silly by talking again. And like you, are pretty daft to bring it all up again…

  304. London says:

Your comment sent me scuttling up the site looking for Chary. Lol

  305. rico01 says:

    London – good thanks..

Re Ade though London, last summer he said he was staying, then in a live i/v about two minutes later he said he didnt know for sure what he was going to do, and he would see if other clubs wanted him etc etc.

It wasnt his agent, it was from his mouth, and I lost all respect for him from that day. Also, I no longer believ a word that comes from his mouth. So if this i/v is a recent one, i would expect to hear nothing from him in the summer about a move – but i bet your bottom dollar he comes out with the same old ‘big clubs want me’ tripe…. I for one wouldnt care if we sold him, but if we see a peaceful Ade during the summer months, then I wont be too unhappy if he stays

  306. rico01 says:

London 😉 I think it may send Ave up the M4 looking for me !! 😉

  307. avenell says:

I’m saying the same site 2 days earlier published an article, in which Arsene stated Ade de-stabilised the team.. form one of the French papers..

As it is the official site they should say they published an incorrect article.

Also Ade’s agent was trying to get a better deal for Ade, as rico said we heard it from the horses mouth on sky..
Ade may not have directly tried to leave Arsenal but he allowed his agent to do the talking to other clubs for him..

  308. London says:

    Good Morning Rasputin

I can only assume the reason that the club felt the need to publish that story on their web site about Adebayor rejecting the idea that he wanted to leave in the summer was to allow him to put his side across.

  309. avenell says:

Tut tut tut Rico….. I always use the A303, A34..

  310. rico01 says:

    ave – 😦

I didnt mean to get the wrong roads 😉

    Am I forgiven??

  311. squallviii says:

err…do u plan to write a new post today? 😐

  312. London says:

Have you still got the link to the club’s statement from a couple of days ago, the interview that Wenger gave?

  313. rico01 says:

Morning squallvii, havent seen you here before, how are you ??

  314. rico01 says:

that wasnt a good start by me, I missed one of your i’s off 😦

  315. avenell says:

    Morning squallviii..

I’m on the case now mate..

  316. London says:

    Morning Squallviii

What is your view on the post above?

  317. rico01 says:

Yes Ave, where is the new post for the pre match debate, come on ??

  318. peachesgooner says:

Adebayor was directly responsible for Arsenal fans losing respect for him – he talked total b****x during the summer, big clubs came in for him – hes going – hes staying – its in Arsenals best interests for him to leave and get £30m for him – hes going – hes staying…..blah blah blah

I too don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth – I don’t understand why would be running that story but I have questioned their PR machine before

  319. rico01 says:

Good morning peaches, not keen on ade then 😉

  320. peachesgooner says:

Morning rico – I need to see some stats on him before I make up my mind 😆

  321. peachesgooner says:

I did say hello to you rico in another world – you know the one where chary resides 😳

    I love ave 🙂

  322. rico01 says:

Not the stats peaches, please, they dont tell a real story – 😆

Yes i did see, and boy have i gafted this morning, but like you I love Ave, and i am sure he has forgiven me 😛

  323. squallviii says:

lol rico even here they you discuss about the stats..
owh, and about this post wenger’s excuse for not buying the experienced players is pathetic. Nonetheless, it’s rare for wenger to talk honestly like this. He just usually avoid these questions.
