This Is England!

So we need more English players in the Arsenal team?
After last nights game it is obvious to see why England never win anything, the attributes that make the English players good in the premiership, hard work strong tackling go out of the window when they put the England shirt on.

Our players are technically inept and when they represent the country they become lazy and think they can outplay other countries, this is okay in the middle of winter but as soon as the temperature reaches 20 degrees plus (like it will in South Africa) we run around like headless chickens for one game instead of letting the ball do the work and we will be knackered for the rest of the tournament.

Also I don’t go for this one position bollocks, like a player  is a central midfielder and that’s it, a player with any level of intelligence should be able to cover 2 or 3 positions on a football field at least. It was good to see the traditional winger, tall good in the air centre forward combination working so well too. Perhaps Mr Wenger and his Wengerball total football is the future after all.

In 5 years time when the Shenley academy of football produces 75% of the England team perhaps Arsene will actually receive some credit for his vision into the future of football in this country.

Chelsea have sacked another manager, oh am I glad I don’t support a club with the morals of a cuckoo, when are we going to realise we have the best manager in the world at our club, the one who could walk into any other job in the world, but some still want him gone.

What would have happened if Hiddink was appointed Chelsea manager 3 weeks ago, would the Arshavin transfer have been derailed? I would say yes we got away with that one I feel.

Have a good rest of the week, next post will be before the Cardiff game..

well hello, top notch ave, couldn’t agree more, and exactly the reason arsene doesnt often buy marure english players – sol was different, one he was free and two he always performed for club and country.

i also agree that we have the best manager, and would hate to be swapping and changing – chelsea have the plyers, they are to blame, no-one else. i hope they are on the decline and the money bags roman flees….

    Hi People!

Good article and one I agree with.

English players don’t get the education in football that players from Europe and South America get.

We are light years from the level we think we are at.

  6. avenell says:

    Cheers wrighty.
I just watched a replay of the reserves v sunderland, all the reserves make bendtner and ade look like dinasours, even jay thomas has more skill..
I’m looking forward to monday now. I hate international weeks. good new about eduardo and no more injuries at least.

    But why is that ?

For the past 10 years we have had foreign managers and coaches. The same training as the Italians/Spanish.

Do you think that the batch of kids coming through the ranks will be a match for their foreign counterparts?

I really hope so. Having seen those two kids at Everton, the AV boys, Theo and Ramsey and JW etc etc. There may well be reason to think things are about to change.

  8. avenell says:

    Morning Raddy.
I would say it is down to the british attitude of football. When I started watching football the first world cup I got to see was in 1970 and Brazil were fantastic, but then that was the only time we really saw football played like that and it was the liverpools with tommy Smith and leeds with norman hunter to watch for the next 4 years.
By the time holland featured in “74” I didn’t really appreciate how they was playing I had got used to the muddy pitch hoofing it long tall centre forward British game.
It wasn’t until the time wenger came that he changed what I wanted to see at arsenal.
But now with football being shown from all countries all the time and so many foreign managers and players in this country, kids can see a better way of playing football and it should filter down to younger kids.
But now we are fighting the youth culture of this country which will hold us back.

  9. Big Raddy says:

I agree to a certain extent Ave, but the kids today get signed to clubs at a very early age, and despite the ‘youth culture’, they can still develop real talent with a ball. Look at Rooney, one of the stupidest men on the planet, and one with questionable morality, but you could never accuse him of lacking in technique.

    I am optimistic.

  10. avenell says:

I think we have always produced the odd player with great technical ability, like gazza, rodney marsh and rooney but they have never had the players around them to play football with causing them to be too direct and lose the ball instead of playing percentages like snooker players do.
When I saw the arsenal reserves again the other night, there are 10 players many english of a similar mindset all playing together and It has taken all these years of not just training kids but training the trainers to reach this stage.
I am confident the arsenal kids can take football to another level in this country.

  29. avenell says:
