Arsene’s A*se is Well and Truly Bitten.

I thought it was about time I awoke from my blog slumber and made an effort to put my hands on a keyboard, to be honest I felt like doing it last Wednesday after we beat the Marsh Landers, but although it was nice to beat the Spuds, the stopping of the gobbing off and text messages was more akin to scraping something unpleasant off the bottom of my shoe, they are just an unnecessary irritation. Not a reason for celebration.

We have spent five years blooding youngsters in the Mickey Mouse cup and making excuses when we are knocked out, then we field a half decent side to win a game and we act like we have done another double..

Pathetic, That’s double standards the Spuddies are not our rivals anymore, Real Madrid, Juve, Barca etc they are. The Emirates Cup is just as important as the Carling at least we play decent teams in that pre season competition, well except Rangers of course.

To top it off and to prove Arsene right in the way that he used to rest the first team in the MM Cup, on Tuesday we fielded a strong team considering our injury problems culminating in resting key players yesterday who are vital to the team, especially while Cesc is out, so we went on to lose our next Premiership game.

What happened yesterday is so sickening, where does it go so wrong?
The pundits on Talk Sh**e on the radio were talking of Arsenal and Chelsea going through the season unbeaten (again in our case), Almunia was a reformed character, and the Squillaci and Kosceilny are the greatest CB’s since sliced bread (Hovis and Kingsmill the famous double winning pairing), well at least we don’t have to wait for the Chavs to knock us off our pedestal.
Yesterday we just got beat, no humiliated at home by a team whose town has a Building Society more famous than their football club.

It always goes wrong when Diaby plays, does anyone know the players who started in the games we lost last year? I am sure he was on the team sheet for most of them, coincidence.. mmm

It goes wrong when Eboue plays at anything other than right back.

If Cesc plays we can afford to drop the creative players and the better passers of the ball. When he is out we need Rosicky, Wilshere and dare I say it “gulp” Denilson in the starting line up.

Song, Diaby and Eboue don’t work… any one of them in midfield with the others is just bearable but any two and we stifle Arshavin and Nasri of any creative linking up.

We normally wait for Chelsea or the Man U games for Arsene to try out that sort of line up. But yesterday the mighty WBA beat us, and beat us fair and bloody square.

I have only watched the game on a mosaic quality stream and I will try to re-watch the game before I do some player ratings.

I watched some of the game again on Sky before I fell asleep (I knew the world of pop concerts at my age would catch up with me), but I saw exactly what was happening, no creativity only from Nasri, this caused Sagna to be our main attacking option, this is where we need a DM to sit to allow the CH’s to cover the full backs when thay are upfield. But Song was in the WBA penalty area.
Basically we were pulled out of shape.

Almunia. 4 .. Had his worse game in an Arsenal shirt and he saved a penalty. We all know he has to go, Arsene never helped his confidence in the summer and the fans are certainly not helping him now, but we need to back him at least until the transfer window opens in January or it could be season over.

Sagna. 7.. I thought he played well, he was the main attacking force and never got anyone to link with or cover his defensive duties.

Squllaci. 6. The best of the centre halves I think he will partner Tommy when he is back.

Kosceilny.. 5.. He was at fault for the chance that lead to the penalty decision, he has a touch of the Sendersarous about him, he gets too close and can be turned when he charges in.

Clichy. 6.5.. 100% effort cannot always turn a game, he needs to link up better with the midfield.

Song.. 6.. Why he is playing so far up the pitch? I really don’t understand, Arsene needs to have a word and get him back in his best position.

Eboue. 5. He spends the whole game running a diagonal from the half way line to the edge of the “D” not allowing the creative midfielder space or helping Sagna out defensively… back to the bench please.

Diaby 4.5.. No effort, no creativity, lapsidazical performance,

Nasri. 8.. The only player worthy to play in the red and white yesterday, would have got an extra point if we were a winning side.

Chamakh..6.5.. Things weren’t happening on the ground for him and he never got the perfect cross to head a goal.

Arshavin.. 6.5. It is easy to mark him down when we losebecause he looks lazy and uncaring, yet when we win we love his arrogance, hit the post eary on that could have changed the games outcome.

Subs .

Rosicky.. 6
.. I am still waiting for the old Thomas to come back to his true form that should make him one of the first choices on the team sheet, he had one of the best shots in the Premiership back in those days, fingers crossed with a bit of confidence after one screams in he will be back.

Wilshere. 7
.. We shouldn’t be relying on Jack as much as we do, if Cesc isn’t playing he is our midfield general. I really hope we can keep him happy and his head doesn’t get turned by the bigger wage packet boys.

Vela..4.5. Too lightweight, he always manages to look good for the cameo rolls when is comes on in a winning side, but start him or expect him to change a game .. nil points..

This time last season we went through the same thing, with defeats to the two Manchesters, this year it feels much worse, drawing to Sunderland and losing at home..
Still onwards and upwards, lets hope the Red Sox lose today and damage is limited.

stopped reading this after you gave Clichy 6.5. WHAT??? CLICHY WAS TERRIBLE? where you at the game? Obviously not. The penalty wasn’t Koscielny’s fault, it was Clichy’s fault – trying to win the ball early like he always does, getting it wrong and leaving a huge hole behind him that led to the penalty. His passing all day was rubbish and he was nutmegged by a backheel for the 2nd goal & nowhere for the 3rd. He was also at fault for the Ben equaliser at Sunderland with the most inept clearance in history. HE IS A LIABILITY! GET GIBBS IN NOW!

  2. SwedishGoon says:

Sagna a 7?!! Some Arsenal reject had him in his pocket. He was rubbish. 3 maybe.

  3. avenell says:

lee.. you obviously stopped reading earlier when I wrote i watched it on a stream.
I don’t agree about the full backs, they are trying too hard in there attacking play because of the lack of creativity in midfield.

    :)

i was thinking tha same thing..

diaby wasnt fit..he fails to put in any effort when hes 100% fit and 50% diaby gives you nothing and we got that again yesterday

Eboue?? 5 years of watching this guy tells us hes better on the bench or at RB

who was supposed to be the playmaker in that lot?? song?? lol

im not even gunna mention the keeper..

50mil profit and the same goalkeepers as the last few years is enough on that subject..

  5. JonJon says:

    the penalty was almunias fault

    he fouled him…

  6. JonJon says:

    clichy needs dropping though..

he wasnt the worst player on the pitch but his form was as bad as it has been for the last 18months

just didnt really pick it up in at much cos the rest of them were worse..

  7. avenell says:

Hi jonjon.. I didn’t realize you posted last night, I was so angry I thought I had better get this out my system.

I thought the idea was Sagna and Clichy give us width.. Kos and Squill cover for them then Song steps back a bit deeper and covers the centre half position..
Why do the full backs get the blame?

  8. avenell says:

Kos let him go past him and put Almunia in a situation that he didn’t need to be in though. but yes he brought the WBA gut down..
He was doing a Rooney and was half way down before Manu hit him as per usual.

  9. JonJon says:

this game is just best forgotten

its too early in the season to start telling wenger i told you so but you can understand why we have our customery games like these every 3 months or so…

we dont spend ANY money even though our gk’s are crap and have been for years and wenger still insists on square pegs round holes

even with the depth of midfielders we have at our disposal we see eboue and diaby as the DMs and song as the playmaker..

50 mil profit and we tried to solve our keeper crisis by offering 2mil for a shite 40 year old

    jeez

  10. JonJon says:

i think sagna is as defensively sound as always..

what you say is correct that the FBs give width and the midfielders drop back but clichy gets forward with no purpose these days and cant defend either so whats his job actually..

if its to look energetic yet at the same time headless chicken cluelsess hes doing a sterling job..

time he sat on the bench for a bit but we need gibbs to stay fit..

  11. JonJon says:

    kos was shite yesterday

but if tony adams had a midfield of eboue song and diaby, a gk like almunia and a LB like clichy i think tone would of looked shite too..

  12. avenell says:

Clichy seems to struggle more playing with Arsh.. perhaps he is too attacking and Clichy has nowhere to go when Andrei just turns around and runs directly at the opposition without the final pass.

  13. JonJon says:

clichy runs into dead ends though..

he gets the ball puts his head down and sets off and by the time hes lifted his head everyones marked and he either crosses it straight into the first marker, row z or passes it back to the defence

    frustrating..

gibbs has played with arsh plenty of times and although gibbs is the same defensively hes alot beter going forawrd..he beats men and gets it in the box..

if clichy cant play with arsh thats clichys problem..

  14. avenell says:

I have no problem with Gibbs though.
He never gets a decent run of fitness to get the main no3 spot. otherwise I think he would be first choice by now.

  15. JonJon says:

    of course

if gibbs stays fit he has to play

  16. JonJon says:

im still curious to know why wenger though eboue song and diaby was good enough for WBA..

fans blame the players but this ones the managers fault..

jack and tomas sat on the bench??..50 million in his sky??

shame on you AW for not taking your gk situation and WBA more seriously

  17. avenell says:

I think it has a lot to do with next weeks CL game.. Arsene thought he could play in the Mickey, then give the boys a rest before Tuesday.. wrong!!

  18. JonJon says:

why do they need a rest anyway??

    its only september??

if jack and tomas were fit enough to be on the bench they were fit enough to play..

    nasri played.

start them and take them off when the games won dont start with the duds and bring the scuds on when we are 3-0 down

why no changes at half time??

    the blame lies with wenger

  19. Slayer says:

Arsenal, at Emirates, lost to WBA???

Bottom line. We are a consistent top 4 club. But we do not have close to a top 4 goalie. Not top 10. Probaly not top 15 even. Then we are a top Champs League club, and you look around those leagues and there is better than Almunia, He is not a top 30 goalie in the world. So why then, is he playing for Arsenal????

He has his moments, but makes too many mistakes. He needs to go. And I am sorry, to say, if Wenger can’t figure this out, then he may have to go to.

Every fan and pundit knows our goalies stink and cost us games and points. Wenger somehow does not address this. It’s getting to be a joke

I would not mind making a play at Stoke’s Begovic. Anything is better than Almnunia. Heck, I rather have a garbage pail in net than our goalies

  20. JonJon says:

whats worrying is that after 6 games weve already dropped 7 points and conceded 100 goals and we havent even played anyone of note yet..

  21. Gurkhaligunner says:

I just would like to say song’s job was to cover our back and support our front. Neither he did if any1 was watching shitty vs cheski you would had noticed yaya toure he was full on support 4 tevez and covering up his bck 4 anyways maybe song’s gonna learn something maybe

  22. avenell says:

    Hi Slayer..

We have also played half of those games against teams that have finished with ten men.
Even on the games when we have won easily there has been a point where we could have gone one or two goals down. then when we score four or more this gets glossed over.. we came unstuck good and proper yesterday..
how many more games do we need to learn from before we get it right..
If we go into every game like the opponents are Real madrid we might be pleasently surprised and when we are a few goals up that is the time to rest and take the foot off the pedal.. not at 0-0 and 1-0 up..

  23. JonJon says:

wenger doesnt want a new keeper slayer..

we wont even get one in january..it will be too late anyway..

we needed a new gk in summer and the summer before and what bothers me is wenger messed about with mark swarzer for half a sixpence when im pretty sure he knew the club was set to announce record profits..

im glad we didnt get swarzer cos hes just as bad as manny but with 50 mill in your back burner you’d have thought we could afforded more than 2 fucking mill

no wonder the agm was cancelled and questions were doctored..

  24. avenell says:

Hi Gurkhaligunner.. Welcome to Avenell Road.. and I make you dead right..
But is that songs fault or Arsene’s for getting his tactics wrong and not letting Song know.
It’s all well and good kicking water bottles, but a good old shout to tell him to drop back and help out the defence might be a good idea now and again.
It’s happened since Song scored a couple of weeks ago. now he wants to be Cesc..

  25. avenell says:

Man U could only take a draw.. phew..

    Damage limitation ..

  26. agirlagunner says:

    Boo!

Ave, you are very magnanimous with your ratings. I’d have given Clichy a 5.0; as he was a general disaster and didn’t want to take control of the ball; and that’s saying something cause I’m always wearing my Clichy-colored shades. :(

Hey, JJ. I’d tell you to go easy on Clichy but… He was abject yesterday. :(

  27. avenell says:

    Hi Agag..

I gave the full backs higher marks because I believe they was trying to do there job and the midfields by thrusting the attack forwards.

anyway it’s really nice to hear from you.

  28. JonJon says:

    hi AGAG

theres nothing wrong with defending clichy.. we all love clichy..hes still young enough to get his form back but at the minute that man is struggling..

    he does need dropping..

the fullbacks must be our wingers in this formation and do the shuttle runs up and down the wing..they must be able to attack and defend..
clichys awesome cos of his energy hes perfect for the role but at the minute hes making constant mistakes at both ends..

sagnas come in for critism also but at least his defending has stayed solid..

when you watch teams attacking us they always go for clichys side..

put him on the bench and let him fight for his place back..gibbs is ready..hes been ready for months..he just needs to stay fit..

  29. JonJon says:

damage limitation is all good mate but we had the easiest draw we needed to take the points this week

its a chance gone..to lose at home to wba at this stage is a no no and although the season is long its points dropped like these we will look back on and say damn..if only

  30. avenell says:

You would have felt worse if the Chavs, Man U, Spuds and the dippers all won though mate… a lot bloody worse.

  31. agirlagunner says:

Good to se that you’re both back to writing ways:)

The match commentators of ATVO were tearing into Clichy yesterday; I had to put it on mute. But even with my crap video streaming, it was easy to see why.

Having said the worst I could possibly say of Clichy, Cashley was dismal yesterday for Tevez’ goal. Hahaha. I haaaate his guts.

  32. JonJon says:

yeah when u put it like that its easier to swallow

  33. avenell says:

We need a good win in the week to set us up for sunday.

  34. JonJon says:

we had a good win to set us up for yesterday :)

but jack and tomas need to come back and then cesc should be ready for sunday..

we shouldnt see diaby and eboue for a while after yesterday..we have better players to chose from and there is quite a few of them..even denilsons been playing well so he should get in over both those two if we really need to..

  35. DelBoyEssex says:

Is Wenger worried that Szczesny is another Lehman? A confident, outspoken disruptor in his cosy Arsenal world of silence? Probably! But if not then give him the No.1 shirt NOW! Or else he will do a “Flamini’ on us and piss off in 2011 when his contract expires, he (Szczesny) must be in a major piss watching those two muppets fuck up time and again! I am!

  36. JonJon says:

I really dont think Chesney is the answer though delboy..

has the situation become so bad that we are asking for a kid whos only played at brentford to be in goal?

the answer is obviously yes, it has.. but with 50mil quid under the matress we shouldnt be asking for a 19 year old

we should have bought someone in the summer..

we could have bought a shit hot gk in the summer for 15-20mil and still have 30 mil profit..

promote chesney to the domestic cups

i see no reason why are still stuck with the same players as the last two seasons

not with all the money we have at our disposal..

  37. avenell says:

Chesney has another 18 years ahead of him in top class football, he should do his talking in Arsene’s office or his agent should be at least.. not to the press.
If he jumps ahead of mannone because he has gobbed off that would be unfair.

I think we should sell all the keepers except Mannone and buy one top class late 20 or early thirty year old. That should set us up for the next 10 years anyway.

  38. avenell says:

It’s not like we cannot afford the best keepers in the world now we have paid the debts off..

  39. JonJon says:

the thing with chesny is that hes become a bit of a myth among fans

the other two have had their chance so everyones called for ches and everyones jumped on board as the performances of the others has got worse

hes not the answer..if he thinks he is then let him stay and prove it..

we need a top class international keeper for the next 5 years at least

if any of the young keepers are good enough they will break thru..if they cant then its no loss..

i find it amusing that everyone thinks chesny should play, yet after years of watching manny and fabby fuck up wenger still doesnt think hes ready..

is he really that good?? really??

  40. avenell says:

Spot on JJ.. how many wanted Fabianski to replace Almunia last year?? .. Now they all call him Flaphandski or something.
I don’t think it’s that easy to play behind an Arsenal defence no matter who you are or your credentials.

  41. JonJon says:

    its not easy..

mannys done whats asked of him..he is the arsenal number one..none of the others are good enough and thats why hes in the team and not them..

but he makes too many mistakes..mistakes wenger thinks the others will make also..

so we need to use that 50 mil in januray and buy another one and let the others fight it out

if they wanna leave so what..its not like we dont have the money to replace them and it aint like they were fucking good enough in the first place..

  42. avenell says:

I certainly don’t want reina after that episode in Spain when he intoduced Cesc as the new barca player.. he can fuck right off.

  43. JonJon says:

    reinas shit

hes another that cant get into the spain squad..

    fuck him..

we want the best not some washed up third rate dipstick..

we want someone whos played dozens of games for their country and has got a reputation

id say with 50mil at our disposal we should be looking at inters cesear or someone like that..

  44. avenell says:

Where did the France national keeper end up.. he would be perfect. and he can comunicate with the back 4.. except Gibbsy of course..lol

  45. JonJon says:

i think he stayed at lyon but to be honest i wasnt that impressed with him in last years cl or the world cup..

i dont think theres a right lot of keepers out there who are top class but if we are announcing 50mil profits, the ppl who are the reason for those profits deserve a better keeper for their team..

  46. avenell says:

Oh well scrap that then.. what was his name loris or something wasn’t it?

Shay Given it will have to be then..

  47. avenell says:

Not sure if is always that great either tbh..

    Almunia it is then…

  48. JonJon says:

    thing is

if we would have scored 4 we wouldnt have been worrying about manny ;)

we should have hit wba all over but the midfield had no creators..wenger messed up the tactics..

it was nasri v wba and it was one of those games where we could have bailed manny out with a few more goals but we didnt turn up full stop..

  49. JonJon says:

nasris been awesome this season so far by the way..

hes pulling it out every game instead of every 4 or 5 like last season..

    hes beginning to beleive.. ;)

  50. avenell says:

If we had of scored first we wouldn’t have had to attack as much leaving Manwell so exposed.

I know we love wengerball, but we need to keep a little bit of shape.
The main problem was lack of workrate though, when we played the Spuddies we worked our socks off, it’s like Barca, pretty football but tremendous workrate.
If you think about it though with the amount of possesion we have we wouldn’t have to run around too much chasing the opposition a mad 15 seconds from everyone and the ball would be back at Cescs feet.

  51. JonJon says:

we should have played denilson instead of eboue really..and either jack or rosicky instead of diaby..

possession denilson, strength song, creativity jack/tomas..

but no..we lacked everything in midfield..weve seen in other games those three players dont mix well and we end up being shit..diaby and eboue are always in the side when we really fuck up..

  52. avenell says:

I asked in the post JJ but do you know how many of the 7 defeats last season diaby played in?

He always plays shit against Chelsea..

The only game against the big boys he looked any good was when he played behind the striker against Man u a couple of seasons back..

  53. JonJon says:

he played in the chelsea games and in the spurs and wigan defeats..thats 4..

he scored against pool last season

  54. avenell says:

So we either only play him against the best teams…. or he makes them look like the best teams..
I would go for the latter and the former I suppose..

That Thomas geezer had a blinder agaist us yeterday, another downside of our youth system..

  55. JonJon says:

    i always rated thomas..

he came thru at the same time as alliadiere, pennant and bently

but at that time we had pires freddie wiltord edu parlour all vying for the wings and henry and kanu and henry up front..

he was never going to get a game so he moved on

but this is what wenger was saying the other day..ppl critise his policy but the amount of young players english and foreign that hes trained that have pro careers is astonishing..

but we cant keep them all can we..

  56. JonJon says:

did i put two henrys lol

oops one of them is supposed to be the ice man

  57. avenell says:

If you are about jj, I will text you..

  58. avenell says:

or better still JJ text me first as I seem to have a new phone and your no isn’t in it.. lol..

  59. RSD says:

Hey welcome back mate hope you can put hand board more regular catch yer the next time

  60. avenell says:

Hi RSD sorry you got moderated buddy.

I am off to uncle Ned but I will be in touch..
