Thomas Vermaelen, wow what a signing. Arsene Wenger sure doesn’t know a good defender when he sees one.
Why was he born 8 miles across the Belgium border, his parents ruined my headline?
He is tenacious in defence, and attacks corners like a madman and is showing the team the way, we now have a new confidence on corners, you can see the takers trying harder to hit a man rather than just hit and hope.
On top of that on Saturday he showed he has a sweet left foot, so 2 goals and a brilliant defensive display. So man of the match then.. er no??
That honour went to Robin van (satellite remover) Persie. To me he is trying too hard, but he is not a power player and should stick to the slick pretty stuff he was showing a few years ago, and when it comes to shooting his hand eye co ordination is getting worse, like when the sound track isn’t in line with what you are watching on the box and peoples lips are moving out of time.
This was a good result for us and should be the starting block to build a run of winning games and get the confidence sky high for the Chelsea game.
I heard on the radio this morning that there have only been 4 draws in the Premiership all season, if every team has played nearly 6 games that must mean about 60 games have been played, I don’t know what that means but we have seen some “gun ho” football this year and not just from us.
Mannone… 6.5 .. doesn’t seem comfortable just yet, needs to communicate better with his defence. Made a reaction save, apart from that never had much to do.
Sagna.. 7 .. an average game for him, not that it is a surprise that a full back is never going to have much work to do against Wigan.. needs to vary his attacking moves.
Gallas.. 7.. Played very well and has settled into a good rhythm this season,
Vermaelen… 9.. Apart from a bit of bad positioning every now and again what a performance from a centre half, could be the best we have had since TA6.
Clichy. 7.. An improved performance from last week, but I was thinking it is about time we got a better end product for all his attacking, Cole and Silviniho used to come up with the odd goal or assist.
Fabregas.. 7.. Doesn’t look too happy at the moment, the Carling Cup game should give his ankle some time to heal, don’t rush him back perhaps have him on the bench next week in case of emergency.
Song.. 6.5 Not his best game, gave the ball away, but if he can keep his best performances for the big games that would be okay.
Diaby.. 5.5.. Good for Diaby, but not living up to expectation now his injury mare is over, needs to find a brick wall and learn to kick with his other foot.
Eboue.. 5.5.. He doesn’t add enough to the team going forwards, not for a midfield player. Okay at right back where attacking is just a bonus. Oh and the handball.. STOP CHEATING..
RvP..8.. He is turning into Thierry mark 2, the most important player at the front, but needs to chill out and take the pressure of himself. May be better when AA comes back to take the pressure off in the final third of the field. Some brilliant corners now that he has someone to aim at..
Eduardo 7.5.. I have only just got used to him being able to run around, he is now back to how I remember him before the injury. Good in flashes but lack that presence needed, needs a big man to feed off RvP is not his ideal partner in crime.
Rosicky.. 7.5 definitely, defintely getting there back to fitness.
Bendtner.. 6. never really got into the game. I don’t want to see him in our half looking for the ball.
Ramsey.. 6.5.. The big stage is still a bit too big for him at the moment..
In all a good 7.5 perfomance..
I watched a couple of great games yesterday on the box.. it was quite strange not wanting any particular team to win.. I hated all 4.. lol..
But although it was good to see Hughes face when he lost yesterday, I feel more should be done about the favouritism of Man U especially at OT..
This injury time thing is out of hand, when I ask the question “where did all the injury time come from?” I get told 45 seconds for a goal 30 seconds for a substitution etc.. but that never happens in our games. What was the injury time in our 6-1 win at Everton I bet it was 3 minutes at the most..
It needs to be the same rules for every match.
Anyway have a great day and look forwards to seeing the kids tomorrow. J
Hello again all…
Nice one ave, but if Robin was your man of the match, how come he has an 8 and TV has 9
Got to go do the shopping, but will be back real soon
Hi rico.. no he was sky’s MOTM, not mine. not too clear that. sorry.
nice post, really busy today will come back late. any news on cesc ?
I’m back again just doing this:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/258740-arsenals-carling-cup-kids-coming-back-out-to-play-against-west-brom
what avater, looks the same to me ?
I think it’s a bit like that old song.. “your always the last to know”
Hi ave – nice post, agree about why Van Persie MOM????
Really I’m just checking Phillipe is still with me
Hi Ave, all!
The highlight of the match for me was the diagonal run Clichy made followed by Eduardo’s magnificent volley that came off the upright. It was such a good move and such a great volley that the goal off the rebound almost seemed an anticlimax.
We are playing such good footbal, I don’t really care if we win any silverware this season, so long as we continue with this exuberant brand of football till the last day in May. The truth is we will win something if we keep playing this way. With Chamakh coming in in the winter, this team can only get better.
I want to see Sunu and Coquelin start tomorrow. Along with Gibbs, Wilshere, Merida, Ramsey, Mannone, Senderos, Sunu and one of Rosicky or Arshavin.
And, lest I forget, Silvestre.
Arsene can figure out the formation.
With the quality of football we are producing, I can’t wait to have Theo and Nasri back. We will be the very epitome of awesomeness!
If I didn’t have a stinking cold and ‘er indoors being a bit moody I’d go to the Carling Cup game also.
It’d be great to see LJW rip the hapless midlanders apart.
Sorry, I meant Sanchez Watt and Coquelin.
PDT – You sound almost too optimistic
Hi Chary, good to see you here!
Get well soon!
Hi PDT.. nice and optimistic my ol’ mate..
We should win things the way we are playing.. but it seems to easy to de-rail the system. As soon as we come up against the “big boys” we seem to be as good but the results and breaks don’t go our way.
We used to win when we was twice as good as the opposition, that is the only way.
Hi Chary.. Irish.
Wenger has said that Szczesny, Silvestre, Senderos, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere and Watt are definitely starting.
I think Randall will start too – he seems to be like the youth version of Diaby.
I’d like to see Barazite and Merida get a chance.
Cheers PDT, I flit around, like the floundering vagabond I am.
I can’t believe some of the Middle Eastlands crowd are trying to get RvP in trouble for his goal celebration – a message to that lot “get over yourselves!”
Chary – I’ll be going to the Birmingham game, you going that day?
I’m not sure yet Maire – I think it might clash with Diwali, but I live in hope.
No doubt Martin Taylor will get a warm welcome!
Pardon my ignorance Chary but is that a long festival or just one special day?
I’m not sure officially how long it is, but I’ve always seen it as just one day. To be honest, most years we’ve never done that much for it, but this year ‘er indoors may want to make something of it.
I may have to take in 2 November games if don’t get to a game in October, probably 2 Champions League games.
Birmingham game will be my one and only for this season, maybe the next as well depending how things go.
That’s a shame Maire, but you obviously have far to go – you’re not quite in Os yet are you ? “G’day sport” and all that.
Ha ha we’ve been warned not to come home with Australian accents. Not that there is anything wrong with an Oz accent – its just that people have gone to America for the weekend and come back with a twang.
There is five of my friends in Oz (and many more Irish besides) so it’ll be like home away from home.
I’m going to miss my nephew, my cats and watching Arsenal at a reasonable hour – maybe I need this trip to get out more
Will you use the internet to stay in touch with us Irish.. or will you just forget.?
I will try and get on the internet as much as I can. I’m not bringing my laptop cos I’ll be only trying to look after it so I’ll have to find internet cafes and that.
I must have said once before but an Irish girl I used to work with went “back home” to Drogheda and when she started working at an office there after she spoke to a client they later referred to her as “that English girl” but to me she always had the rich, strong tones of Erin and sounded pure irish to me.
But then Stevw said he couldn’t understand a word of what you said, so I’d probably sound like Del boy from “Only fools and horses” to you.
Phew.. roadsters are dropping off like flies at the moment..
I never thought I had that much of an Irish accent to tell you the truth but I must have.
Although people keep thinking I’m from Kerry/Clare cos of my accent. I don’t have a Limerick accent at all which might be just as well ha ha
I have a bit of trouble with some English accents. There were two young fellas at the last Arsenal game and I had no clue what they were saying – I just nodded politely
It’s what you’re used to hearing I suppose Maire.
When we chant “You dirty northern bas****s” at away fans after their team has another hack at one of our players we always use the northern way of saying “a”, like “bah-stards” rather than “bar-stards” as we do in the south. Must be a subconcious effort to speak in a way that’s the only language they understand.
Good attention to detail Chary ..lol ..
“You dirty northern bas****s” must be one of the most over-used chants in football ha ha.
I go to a few Limerick FC games and any time the border teams come down they get an earful. Along with “You’re not even Irish” and other such North/South chants.
Talking about accents – I have the funniest joke ever but can’t tell it to ye cos its in Irish so ye wouldn’t understand it but trust me its hilarious when you say it in a Belfast accent.
I always think of the veteran parliamentary reporter John Cole(second to our League cup winning goal scorer, Steve Morrow) whenever I hear a Belfast accent/voice: “Hondootedly Mossis Thotcher…..heeve greeve doots….poleetical hoot potato..” etc..
I love Donegal accents like Shay Given’s but the real thick Northern Irish accent always sounds so angry.
Is Vela back for tomorrow?
Yes Maire, Wenger said “You will see Wojciech Szczesny, Ramsey, Gibbs, Wilshere and certainly Vela,”…“Traore will play”
also he said there’ll be Fish head and Senderos at the back.
That’s good news. Do you think he will start or come on as a sub?
With Vela and Arshavin back there can be no excuses for seeing Diaby left week.
So will it be like this:
——————— Szczesny ———————–
Hoyte ——- Senderos ——— Silvestre ——Gibbs
——————– Randall ———————–
———– Ramsey —————— Merida ———
——————- Wilshere ———————-
————- Watt —————– Vela ———-
I reckon Carlos will play the first 65-70 mins and get taken off. Probably Bendy will lead the line as he only came on for the last 20 minutes or so on Saturday. However Rico’s favourite may be a 70th minute sub for (Dirty)Sanchez Watt.
Bendtner and Vela work well together up front but Wenger will probably go 4-3-3.
Look forward to seeing Wilshere.
The WBA trainer was on the radio this morning, he said WBA will rest a few of there players as they want to concentrate on the Championship..
WBA probably know they won’t go too far and they are doing well in the Championship. They might come right back up.
All three of those relegated look like coming back up.. whats it like to be a fan? One year they win every game.. next year they see the top teams and watch there teams lose..
know your place..
Doubt all three will come back up. Boro got hammered by WBA.
Newcastle might fall short as well. They should just give the manager’s job to Chris Houghton in all fairness, pay the man for what he is doing.
I don’t think they will take anyone on until a new buyer is found,, they may have there own ideas and they would have to pay compensation (again)..
ave – I love your assessment of what its like to be yo-yo fan –
One year they win every game.. next year they see the top teams and watch there teams lose..
know your place…….
Is he still there…….
Hello Phillipe – you’d better not drop any clangers tomorrow……..I’m expecting great things from you
Hi Peaches.. could be a new Wenger theory.. play Phillipe next to Silvestre.. make him look good and fast..
Hi ave – I don’t understand why Sylvestre has to play, Bartley is much better. All the team selections that I’ve seen today contain too many first team players. In previous years there have only been 2 or 3 from the squad – could Arsene be taking it more seriously this year?
I haven’t seen the definate 8 that he has said will start. Perhaps he is getting the first line of subs ready for an injury crisis..
Morning Roadsters and roosters……..
I’m going this evening and I’m going to have to watch the worst signing we have ever made and the best youngsters we never play
/
Morning rasp – so when we kidnapp Diaby we should stick tweety-pie in too
Look, theres Phillipe
Worst player we’ve ever signed = Sylvestre …. Diaby doesn’t even come close …..
Wow, this rant is gonna run and run…….
Morning Peaches,
Your mate big Phil had better not let yoy down tonight …. but as has already been said, he’s considerably better than his proposed CB partner……
Morning all
Morning rico
Hi Rasp, hope it’s a great game tonight for you, wish I was going
Hi rico,
With one exception it should be a free flowing attacking display without the ‘fear of failure’ that often prevents our first teamers from having a shot from outside the box.
I’m off to unsightly Staines ….. catch up later ……
Ah, you mean Silvestre
Morning all,
Hughes has refused to dish out any discipline on Bellamy and he didn’t do anything about Adebayor. He’ll loose that dressing room soon with all the primadonnas. Bad management imo.
On tonight – it seems Merida and Hoyte are at the U20 World Cup. So they have an U17, U18, U19 and U20 World Cup
Hi Roadsters..
Has anyone read this article..??
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/sep/22/manchester-united-goals-stoppage-time
We all say how pally old red nose and the 4th official were at the end of the game. I’m sure he enjoyed his post match wine and brown envelope.
Arsenal have announced the following squad for the Carling Cup tie with West Brom this evening at Emirates Stadium.
Wojciech Szczesny
James Shea
Philippe Senderos
Mikael Silvestre
Kieran Gibbs
Armand Traore
Kerrea Gilbert
Kyle Bartley
Mark Randall
Francis Coquelin
Craig Eastmond
Emmanuel Frimpong
Nacer Barazite
Aaron Ramsey
Gilles Sunu
Jack Wilshere
Carlos Vela
Sanchez Watt
That’s a mouthwatering array of young talent (barring the obvious exception …phhppaaa). My prediction is 2 nil but could be a lot more if they start playing with freedom…..
Phillipe and Carlos……. whats a girl to do
Carlos I get but Phillipe
I’m pleased you ladies are taking our footballing exploits so seriously
– I feel the same way about topless darts
(women’s that is…)
Let’s hope Phillipe is not a Phulop
Its a vital ingredient Rasputin, everything has to be taken into account
Did you hear there was an ugly scene at Manchester Derby at the weekend? Rooney, Lescott and Tevez all took to the pitch……
Thank goodness Keown’s retired – we only play pretty football now …..
We played such pretty footy when Thierry Henry was with us *sigh*
I’d have gone through gender reassignment for TH
Quick ave – edit out my last comment …….
I think many a man would have done that for TH14
Are you getting in touch with your feminine side Rasp?
Nothing wrong with that..
I would Irish (4.57) ! But I have always been easy
I miss him.
But if we are talking flesh, we still have some lads who were at the back of the queue when good looks were given out. I guess TV is handsome, as is NB and certainly Vela. So is TW, and Mozart in a boyish way.
This reminds me of that scene in 40 year Old Virgin when they say ” you know how I know you are gay?”…. I love that movie
I can’t think of too many ugly Arsenal players to be honest, we have quiet the good looking team. Silvestre and Diaby fail here as do Eboue.
Fabregas, Van Persie, Nikki B, Vela, Eddie, Gallas, Rosicky, Walcott I would rate very highly.
Thanks ave….
I think TV looks a bit scary – he has manic eyes… Did anyone notice how he buried his head in RVP’s shoulder after he scored at the weekend? – it was like he was a small child!!!
Sagna is a bit of a dog, as is Clichy, and AA. Song is hideous, Almunia weird, and Mannone a gargoyle.
RAs… how was sunny Staines?
I think Song and Clichy are cute
Hi Raddy,
Staines is the armpit of the world!
My daughter has Mrs. Fab on the back of her favourite arsenal shirt so I guess she thinks he’s dishy.
Big news of the day – Chas n Dave have split up – its sending shock waves through the music industry
Mannone always reminds me of Alister Mcgowan.. doing an impersonation of a goalkeeper.
Chas was on Radio 2 yesterday, he has a new solo album out.
Not that I listen to radio 2..
Best station on the radio Ave.
Bob Harris show is the best radio programme of alltime and it is on Radio 2. (well, Bob, and Kenny Everett, and John Peel, )
Dave was the talent !!?? Delighted they have split up, the only shame is that they ever formed. I had the great misfortune of seeing them play at Shite HL before a game. They were excruciatingly bad.
Spoken like a true music connoisseur Raddy
Ave – I would have thought that radio 4 was more your mark now!
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has labelled transfer spending “a last resort”, and believes new Uefa rules will benefit his side in the long run.
Top clubs will soon not be able to spend more than they earn, to promote responsible financial behaviour.
He said: “Transfer spending is the last resort, re-signing existing players is far more efficient. We’ll not spend on players that don’t add real value.”
I have just realised that in Jan/Feb we play Villa MU, Chavs & the Dippers inside 2 weeks.
Who made this schedule? It is nonsense that we have to play all our rivals consecutively. I bet it was that idiot Gordon Brown or even more likely his muppet Darling (can’t help thinking of Blackadder 4)
Oh Dear Coadsi. Some people are going to very unhappy about that !!
I know BR, very unhappy
hello all,
does anyone have some stream for the game?
Hi Freire.. I cannot find anything.. I think they are copying Arsenal.com and will be delayed until after the game the same..
I’m looking though.
That’s ok, Ave. Thank you.
But why do you use stream to watch the games, Ave? The TV doesn’t pass the Arsenal games in Conwall?
Cornwall, i mean.
The only game on the TV is Liverpool v Leeds.. I should have drove to London.. it was only a £10 to get in..
How many time do you spend till London, by car?
275 miles.. about 4 1/2 hours each way.. I used to live 20 miles away until a few years ago..
:O woow. That’s too much for a Carling Cup game. Lol.
Do you know the starting XI?
Wojciech Szczesny
Kerrea Gilbert
Philippe Senderos
Mikael Silvestre
Kieran Gibbs
Francis Coquelin
Aaron Ramsey
Jack Wilshere
Armand Traore
Sanchez Watt
Gilles Sunu
Oh, thanks. Exotic team, mr Wenger. Hahahah
Wilshere has just hit the post..
How do you know, Ave?
It’s on sky sports news..
There are updates here Freire .. press the live commentry box..
http://tv.arsenal.com/
I dont pay Arsenal TV to get access to it. It’s expensive for me.
No the updates are free.. press the match centre box..
the one on the right.
ARSENAL WIN A CORNER: This time Traore gets forward and crosses from the left. Nothing comes of it though as Ramsey makes a mistake.
Thanks!
thanks, i found it
oooh, Szczesny crazy!
Newcastle are 2-0 down to Peterborough.. lol .
There down to 10 men ..
WBA that is..
Sounds like RvP is playing..
…AND HE MISSES BY MILES! Ramsey got right underneath that and it would have missed three goals standing on top of each other
68mins – goal!!!
Poooor Newcastle. I like them, they are nice;
1-0 to The Arsenal!
Watt happened?!
Has Watt energized the crowd?!
So many puns
Watts it all about Sanchez..
2-0 as I was posting..
LOL!
Hello Irish, how’s Ireland?
Ugly Vela..
Hiya Freire, Its good how is Brazil?
I’m following the game on Yahoo and BBC text – how depressing
Brazil is not nice, it’s not a nice place to live, irish. I’d like to be in Ireland now, LOL.
What are you going to do about it in the future Freire?
Is there anything to make your life better?
Ha ha Ireland isn’t all that great either to be honest.
Well, Ave. I’d really like to know different places, as England and Ireland. I’m fascinated by these countries. Brazil is too hot for me, and ppl here are stupid. If you’d come here sometime in your life, you’d know what I’m talking about.
I have never flown Freire so that is unlikely. I am too old to start now.. I would rather go up in a microlite or a paraglider than a 747 lol..
What is stopping you coming over? Is it hard to earn money?
I’m 17 now, Ave, and it’s very expensive to fly to Europe. England is a far dream for me. Now I have to think about my future, and I’m trying to enter in a university.
England, only when I am 30 or 40 years old. =\
You have never flown Avenell?
I’m not a huge fan of it myself which isn’t ideal considering what I’ve ahead of me. Its only a recent dislike because of my 3rd last flight when the plane got thrown around in the air, didn’t feel nice but hey hoo I’m still here.
That’s all you can do mate, try your best.. Are there jobs for you if you get qualified?
Brazil is a poor country, mate.
Even if you get MBA and a lot of courses, you still have to look hard for a job. I don’t have any great courses in my curriculum, and if i don’t get a university, I’ll have to work almost as a slave next year.
No Irish.. I have had a few dreams come true in the past.. Once I woke up and had a load of numbers in my head.. so I went and got a lottery ticket and won £85.00.. I have only ever done it that once. (stop while your up).
I have also had a few other dreams come true, so as I have nightmares about planes crashing it would build up in the days before a flight.
I know how a plane works, shape of the wings etc.. but I would feel out of control.. I know it’s stupid..
but there always the channel tunnel and a fireblade if you want to see other countries.
Is there any way that you could get into a British university Freire?
Your right Avenell not to go if you don’t feel comfortable and Britain is lucky having the channel tunnel.
There is only two ways out of Ireland – by sea or air.
The way I look at it is that I could never fly again and did get stung by a bee and die from an allergic reaction. When its your time to go, its your time to go, can’t stop it so just gotta live.
Well, Ave. That’s what I was going to ask you. I don’t know how universities in England work. The only thing I know is that is VERY VERY expensive. I don’t have that money, and I wouldn’t like to leave my girlfriend here.
Could you explain me how universities work there?
I was watching Sky News and its very expensive to go to college/university in Britain – is there any government aid?
Ireland was free for me but the government are doing away with that next year.
I have been to France, Spain and Switzerland on a ferry. I would like to tour Ireland too. I am always trying to build on what I have. There is a ton of work to do to get this place how we want it so going away would knock us backwards a bit..
You have the right idea.. do it while you are young and have no ties.
Irish/freire.. I know very little about it.. But a lot of it is done with student loans.. Which I am not sure is a good idea.
Or perhaps you could write to companies to sponser you..
I will have a look about though.
I’ve been to England, France, Italy, America and will be adding Hong Kong and Australia shortly.
Normally, people from Europe and United States can go to other countries easier than us, from South America. The longer I traveled was to the south of Brazil. But I was 4 years old and I don’t remember anything.
One of my uncles will open a little shop in England, in Candem (nearby Islingtn!) and i’d like to go with him. But this is a looong history =\
I love Camden lock market.. that is very near where London lives.
If you can get here there will be loads of opportunities I am sure. again I don’t know much about work permits or anything though.
What are your plans after that Irish?
My uncle has shown me some pic of there. Oh man, WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE!! The perfect place for me! he said there are FOXES (fox in the plural, lol) running through the streets! Here we have only abbandoned dogs =\
The foxes are not supposed to be there though Freire.. They have gone into the cities to scavenge, we get a few in our garden.. they like to crap on our mole hills..
I saw a programe about Moscow the other night .. you are more likely to be attacked by a pack of dogs turned wild than you are to be mugged..
LOL. I’d love to see a fox, Ave! I’ve never seen one in my life, they don’t exist in Brazil. Especially if the fox is in London, I’d love to be attacked by one. lol
My uncle said they are not lovely animals.
Freire.. The problem with the fox is it will kill far more things than it will eat. I am no expert but it would take out say 20 chickens and only eat one.. they sort of kill for fun.
And there are a couple of people on here who keep chickens and a fox is there worst nightmare..
I understand, Ave. But I just would like to be in London, u see? Moscow is another place I’d like to go. The Transyberia Way, Oh, how nice would that be!!
Freire re studying in England, first step is to pass the subjects with good grades. I dont know what exams are done in brazil but the A level or the brazilian equivalent i think.
Well, now i know that I won’t study in England. HAHAHAH
Not too sure about the transsiberian railway.. It’s a bit wild over there. I suppose it would be good to see it once..
I would like to visit Egypt and Crete.. one day a med cruise could be the answer.
Depends how bad you want it Freire..
What you mean by your last post,Ave?
Transsiberian railway must be very good. Eight days inside a train, drinking vodka all the time and listening to that PERFECT russiand language… Snow, snow and more snow all around! I’d live in a place like that easy easy!
I gotta go now, mates. See you later. Good night for all.
Freire, there is no education quite like seeing the world and immersing yourself in different cultures. I have great respect for your wish to travel the world and hope you get to do it in your lifetime!
Too many people travel to be able to say, “I saw the pyramids and the Harbour Bridge, etc, etc” but from your posts, you are clearly intrigued by the romance of travel and that is absolutely the right attitude.
Morning all…
Great result for the kids club last night, shame the LJ is getting the blame for Thomas’s red card. I didn’t watch it and haven’t seen it this morning so have no idea what he has done
News is breaking in couple of papers that Big Sol has left Notts County after playing in one game…
Morning Roadsters and roosters,
Watt scored the first goal after some vela magic but he was actually pretty poor and in the second half whenever he received the ball from a player with his back to the goal he just passsed it straight back to them instead of creating a goalscoring chance – hopefully his confidence will grow….. Vela however was a class apart from every other player on the pitch. He made one and scored one and I can’t conceive why he hasn’t had more chances in the prem, I’m a Dudu fan, but I see Vela as nearly as good.
Big Phil was still the old Big Phil, a decent defender but when he gets skinneed defending high up the pitch, his lack of pace lets him down. Two clear headers (one unopposed) – he should have got one on target.
I have to be honest and say that tweetypie had a good game. He hardly put a foot wrong and produced an ‘Adamseque’ late tackle to deny them an almost certain goal.
Bad decision of the night – taking Coquelin off – he was far and away our best midfielder as Ramsey was not having a good game….
Morning Rasp,
You should have been sneaky and popped that down as a new post, it’s always nice when someone who is at the game does one
Good to hear that about old Tweetypie, do you think he could perform to that standard against the likes of Chavski? Not such good news on Senderos though, but to be fair, I didn’t really expect much improvement from him, sadly
Morning rico,
BP and tweety would both be OK against botttom half prem teams I reckon, but would definitely be found out against the better sides.
Vela looked ready for the first team and Ramsey, LJ and Coquelin are also ready to play some part in the prem campaign although I doubt Coquelin will get the chance. He is a little Terrier in midfield. He snaps into tackles and if a pass is misplaced he often wins the ball back … a great prospect for the future I’d say…
Oh, and Chezny Hawkes pulled off some good saves but flapped almost everytime a ball was delivered in the air from a set piece. He decides to come for the ball before it is kicked instead of judging the flight and reacting accordingly.
Rasp – I hope AW uses them both wisely to rest Gallas and TV, otherwise one of them will get injured -
Chezney Hawkes
Who do think is the better keeper out of him and Mannonnonneeoonnee
Chezney Hawkes has done well to come back after breaking both arms
Hey ave when you log on, is your first post sentence right ??
Afternoon Roadsters..
Rico … of course it’s right.. what bit?
Sol is doing his usual walking out of a club again, there is talk of him joining ‘arry.. a load of spuds on the radio this morning are going to tear up there seasons..lol..
Hi Ave – this sentence
Thomas Vermaelen, wow what a signing. Arsene Wenger sure doesn’t know a good defender when he sees one.
Its sad for Sol, but would be funny at the Spuds camp
Rico …. re: keepers,
I think Chezney is like all our other keepers ….. a decent shot stopper but doesn’t command his box or exercise judgement when deciding to come for crosses. Having said that, Chez kept a clean sheet and grew in confidence so we don’t know how much he could improve after a run of games … I’d prefer him Almunia on current form
Rasp – same old then, but I would prefer me as our keeper right now than Alumina
Hi Rico/Rasp..
A bit tongue in cheek that ..
Chez does have a few years to improve though. he is only 19. and he missed a few months last year with injuries, so early days.
Sol was in the Notts team pic that was taken yesterday.. lol.
Afternoon all,
Sol gone walkies again
Afternoon Irish.. yep.. what does he need £20 million quid for?
Maybe he wants to move to Spain or something?
At least he finished the game and didn’t walk out at half-time.
Man City and Man U are at home tonight.. should be interesting..
Man City are getting boring already – they haven’t won a thing for donkey years and the fans are walking around like Lord Muck – a dash of reality would be nice.
Who do they play tonight? I want the opposition to win.
Fulham – that could work they are due a win.
Hi Irish – they won’t get one Saturday
Nope but they will hopefully get one tonight
And if they pick up a few injuries en route to winning then no harm either.
Man City are going to take the CC quite seriously as they are not in europe.
All that money and they have to take the CC seriously – reminds me of Chelsea
What nobbers
So that’s the Spuds and man City who take it serious, and rafa the bottler..
What’s a nobber?
Everyone takes it seriously apart from MU and us.
Hi Raddy, are you teasing
Nobber = idiot
hehe 10 man.. Man U..
Morning Roadsters
No shocks last night then
Statistic Arsenal Wigan
Possession 62% 38%
Shots 26 13
On target 9 5
Fouls 8 20
Corners 6 4
Saves 5 5
Offside 2 1
Booked 2 2
Sent-off 0 0
Do these stats worry any of you?? 26 shots on goal and only 9 on target !!
Morning Roadsters..
Those stats look very similar to games we played from 2000 to 2005. The ones that worry me the most were last year during january when we was playing crab football. we was having 60% possesion yet only producing about 4 chances a game.
When we have AA, Rosicky and Cesc all fit hopefully we can create slightly more clear cut chances and get more out of them..
The offsides are a bit low though only 2.. why is that?
Morning ave – what it tells me is we have a shocking forward line! Look at who are our goal scorers are – the chances are already being created, the problem is we are not converting them right now…
I wish Theo would return and he gets a chance in the middle, I honestly don’t think it would take him too long to find the net
Offside… Let me think about that one
Theo and Vela in, Robin and Nik out
Nic in the middle. Theo to the right and AA to the left in a 4-3-3 then a midfield of TR7, Fab4 and Song.. that should create.. I would try Dudu instead of Theo myself swapping AA to the right ..but either is worth a go..
I just get frustrated to watch us pass, pass, pass, pass, pass with nothing at the end – i hope against fulham we have a team full of pace, precison passing and a good few finishes
Any gossip about rico?.. I am a bit busy today so I don’t have a lot of time to scan everywhere..
Nowt really ave, Bordeau having a ago at AW about Chamakh pursuit, Eden Hazard is a target for the summer, same old, same old really dross really
I’ll pop back later, don’t go overdoing it today ave, i have just had a couple of busy days – exhausted today
Good afternoon, all!
I would like to see Eduardo play every game in the middle with Theo and Arshavin on the flanks. RvP needs a rest.
Arsene has said that he will play Theo as a midfielder rather than a CF.
Hi PDT, if Theo plays in a 433 that should make him half winger/half striker so he should start to get a few goals..
Rico.
Nobber must be one of those new words that have developed whilst I have been abroad.
PDT. When did AW say that about Theo? Seems far-fetched to me. Why would Theo who is the fastest player in the EPL play MF ? As you say, he will be a winger.
Maybe I am mis-interpreting you
Sure is quiet on here today, but then there really isn’t anything to chat about.
So ….. I will entertain myself by writing about the wonder of Italian Red Wine – just joking (though I could) – No – I am going to watch some dreadful Danish TV, and think about the green, green grass of home (could be a title for a song)
Evening guys and gals
Theo and Arshavin both fit for the Fulham game – hoorah, no Diaby or Eboue then
Raddy, sadly, I learned that word at secondary school, it must be a southern thing
Catch you tomorrow all, hopefully there will be some juicy gossip to debate
Nighty night
Evening People
Just had 2 observations to make and i’ll be on my way…
Just read this off of Goal.com
————————————————
“I had £30 million in the summer, and I spent £10 million on [Thomas] Vermaelen. Apart from that I did not want to buy,” he said.
“We have an unbelievable squad. Against Wigan, [Nicklas] Bendtner was on the bench, [Theo] Walcott, [Andrei] Arshavin, [Samir] Nasri, Denilson did not play.”
————————————————–
1. If Gazidis says that buying players is a last resort then should we have hired him as a last resort? I mean seriously. WTF is he doing at the club?
2. 30 – 10 = 20. 20 + 40 = 60.
60m quid. We couldve bought David Villa and Yaya Toure.
So let me just say that the way we are being run is a joke. And i dont have any expectations till Wenger is sacked.
Morning all.
Wenger has stated many times that because of the size of our squad and the small percentage of really great players(who invariably get injured)he has to concentrate on the PL and CL. Look at the clubs left in the CC and I am sorry to say the so called experience of what amounts to the youth team and average squad players,as opposed to a stronger CC team to last year is far weaker. What experience will this team get if they manage to progress another couple of rounds, none because being kids they will take it mentally harder than a seasoned pro.if wenger decides to bolster the team for the next round, that may be a different thing, but i doubt it.
Lasy season we beat Sheff unied and promptly lost our next league game.
The only clubs that will benefit in the short term are those with wealthy beneficaries and the rest will be left behind.
if money is so tight then Wenger has a juggling act to perform every week also accounting for injuries, but sometimes i wonder at why he plays certain players out of position.hil Wood has said “if we break even on the Highbury square development,it won’t be the end of the world, what does that men.
there is no pressure to succeed ans selling out to Usmanov may not be the answer either.
i would rather have been told when we moved to the Emirates that we have a five year plan to develop home grown talent with the odd acquisition 9which should have been done every year for the last five years).it is clear the percentage emphasis on kids has been weighted on to heavily,so as to achieve the right balance.
Good Morning all
My view is that the club would be run exactly the same way right now, no matter who the manager is. I truly believe and have always maintained this view, that it is the board being tight and AW is just the front man taking all the critism – i cant think of any other manager who would
1) Put up with having so little to spend and
2) Would do so well with the players he has.
I still think that some of the ‘top’ clubs are going to one day have serious financial problems but we won’t. Even the dippers have let it leak that Rafa will only have a 20M budget EVERY year for the next five years, and that includes contract extensions.
Look at Manure too, they got 80M for the winker, but even they didn’t go out and spend that money, and the dippers didn’t really replace Alonso, well they bought a player who is a crock!
