A day or so ago we touched on the subject that this years kits are the worst home and away kits I can remember us ever having.
The home kit in my opinion is wrong, Herbert Chapman changed our kit in the early 1930’s and put white sleeves on and in my opinion that is our traditional colours, not a wide red stripe on the sleeves. At some angles especially when Silvestre is playing he still looks like he is in a Man U kit.
Cue the Hovis theme tune now…. “ When I were lad” My favourite player was Geordie Armstrong who unfortunately died on the Arsenal training ground some 10 years or so ago now. When he ran down the wing the sleeves on his shirt, they used to appear to be inflated, but that may have been my old b/w television that gave that illusion. This was the first kit that I ever owned, it must have been about 1970 I went to a little shop called Lee Sports and Marine and came out wearing the full kit, with a long sleeve shirt, I don’t think short sleeve ones were available then and I just wanted to play football in it not wear it for leisure like the shirts are today.
It was about the time we got to Wembley and we wore yellow, I don’t think they were called ‘away kits’ in those days just ‘changed kit’ so for us paupers with the b/w tv’s it was easier to spot the different teams. Who can remember the snooker (Pot Black) before the colour tv? “ The light grey is just behind the slightly darker grey” .
So we was in yellow at Wembley in full colour, that’s how I like it to be yellow away but I do understand that market forces mean that the away kit can be messed about with. But not the home kit please!!
My favourite shirts are from about 1986 and they were a breakaway from our old kit maker Umbro. We were to be decked out in Adidas, the trefoil, a proper manufacturer with some style, more like the clothes that everyone was wearing on the terraces. This new kit also coincided with Georgie Graham coming in as manager, the shirts represent a bright new era in our modern history David Rocastle, Paul Merson and trophies luvvly jubbly.. I have the home kits around that era but my bestest shirt has to be the 91’ away kit, yellow with the green/black delta’s on it. The first time I saw it some kid cycled past my house with one on and I had to have one there and then. So I got on my trusty RD350 and went straight down to the Arsenal shop at Finsbury Park and bought one that day.
That has since been worn so much the letters have started to fall off..
I have been disappointed with the Nke shirt era to be truthful, I like some better than others, also I was upset when the club changed to the new badge, it’s a Leeds look alike, a piss poor attempt at modernisation. We are The Arsenal, a club built on tradition and traditional values and that badge does not represent that in my opinion. It really winds me up on Arsenal tv when the use the Victoria Concordia Crescit on an advertisement when they have dropped it from our badge.
I could go on but I would like to hear other views on the shirt debate..
“Do a summersault on your head, whoop”
Evo.. When you have a post to put up.. I will give you my email address send it too me and I will put it on..
As you can see we have 6 in admin at the moment and I get confused at what is going on now
Wow avenell, well done, such depth of feeling about a shirt
I have to admit to never having owned one I’m afraid but my daughters have had them over the years……
This is the best site for Arsenal kits
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Arsenal/Arsenal.htm
Get you ave, where did you copy and paste that from
I still don’t like the new badge and never will, I have had a few shirts but all but one have been the traditional colours – the other was the blue JVC shirt which I used to wear when I was footie training along with the boys training kit – what a poser, eh
Looked the part, but still poop at playing
Raddy – the girls are going great guns, 6 down now
I had the first blue Nike shirt.. then the next year they brought the one out with the starship enterprise stripe across it.. yuk!!
I Remember wrighty used to tuck in the collar on his to be different..
no worries avenell….ill type one up this week.
I must say i like the current home strip, but im not super keen on the new away one, might need to see it during a game to see if i like it or not?
Thanks for the Link London.
my all time favorite shirt is the 04/05 all blue away kit, and of course the 1971 double team yellow away kit, with visions of CG celebrating on the ground after scoring the winner against liverpool in the Cup Final.
You surprise me sometimes Kelsey.
You have probably supported Arsenal for the longest on here, yet you take to change a lot better than I do.
Not just in your view on the shirts, but in the general evoloution of the club.
ave,
I don’t really understand what you are saying. Can you explain, please.
one of my favourite strips is the dreamcast one, but i hated the o2 one thou
Kelsey..
It just seems I am stuck in an era sometimes like when I used to attend matches on a regular bases.. that was when the good times were for me, hence when I liked the shirts from the eighties.
I drag my feet when I see changes, and they take years and have to grow on me.. you don’t seem as stuck in the past..
some things are instant like Arshavin though..
ave – guess that’s why you have only just binned your tins and string, and bought yourself a telephone then
And custard these days ave
This is a shame …

Rico.. you can tell it’s my birthday soon.. i’m going through a nostalgic phase..
Oh yes, when is it again ave, you are older than me aren’t you
You couldn’t be more wrong ave.
I miss going to the matches, the atmosphere, the expectation, the years in the doldrums and then finally getting one over on spurs.and finally winning trophies after years in the wilderness.
It seems a lifetime ago,but the passion is there as it was 50 years ago, maybe my priorities have changed with age,but once a gooner always a gooner
Stuff to get done now so off for a while – catch you later
Yes I am Rico, I just look younger..
cyber slap coming right up.. ouch..
Kelsey.. All i was trying to say is I could just carry on talking about the good old days, arsenal isn’t the same for me now I live a fair distance away, I also loved the terraces, the atmosphere, the smell of beer in the ground, the bloke with the peanuts (not loved
), the girlies who brought the scratch cards around.
It just doesn’t seem the same now..
Oh well it’s the same for both of us ave,but for different reasons
Did you get any beauty sleep last night?
you mean me ?
No, No ,No. i think that Rocky the male boxer has got a problem again.Up every 2 hours for a pee.Sometimes i miss him and it finishes up on the marble floor. Can’t eat anything much because of my tooth op,and it is sweltering here.
Oh Happy Days.
Yes sorry Kelsey I did..
It all seems like paradise from a distance.. Too hot for me mate!
A’anoon Roadsters … tear jerking post ave
I stopped wearing Arsenal shirts altogether after the FA Cup final against pool, when I had to add replica shirt wearing to my already long list of superstitions. I never wear a shirt to games now and I am one of those that feel that men of a certain age and physique don’t look great when it hugs the beer gut
rico – great result for the ladies in the cricket – resounding victory!
Just to add to my last comment – I am a hypocrite, because I would hate to go to a match and not see a sea of red and white around the stadium…….
Good for Diaby – at least he’s addressing his problems and prepared to put in the hard work – shame Ade couldn’t go to ref classes for a month and study the offside rule….
………”Instead of spending his holiday on the beach, Arsenal’s Abou Diaby is working on his fitness with famous French personal trainer Renaud Longuevre.
The Gunners midfielder has opted against resting this summer, as he wants to gain muscle power and reach the next level, Longuevre has revealed.
As a consequence, the France international, who has been widely compared to Patrick Vieira, will practice with the track and field trainer for four weeks.”
I know I’m talking to myself… so here’s my last comment until I leave Coventry
Great to see that TV speaks fluent English with a better anglo/dutch accent than Schteeve McClown…..
http://arsenalspot.net/2009/06/video-thomas-vermaelen-first-interview/
Rasp.. Thanks..
No one has noticed I carried on the song title theme.. even though I put the last words of the lyrics on the end of the post..
It’s like they couldn’t give a figg
Wrighty is in for a slapped wrist, he has stolen my headline
Haircut 100 ave – I didnt know it, but have just been told who had it as a hit
And the next line is
And your ‘boxers’ are on your head…. Ok, it should be socks
Hey Rasp – see the ladies woop the NZ’s – how are you today, and I wont mention your cricket, honest
I can’t believe that JVC sponsered us for 18 years, I loved the shirts with that on, and I did like Dreamcast – But Fly Emirates is just not quite the same, especially knowing the name has been somewhere else in London
Great link by the way London
Hey there Lonely Girl
I smell of chicken poop and I am covered in dust from a cutting the hedge, so best I go and sort myself out …
See you in a while
Aaahhh Haircut 100 – not the Figgs – sorry ave you must think I’m mad… a musical reference I got wrong

Pakistan in the driving seat in the men’s game …..
I just spent an hour trying to work out figgs..lol
Sorry Rico I missed ya, I spotted you on wrighty’s site, your the original (even if it was a C&P)..

Rico.. did you see I had already had a pop at him.. lol.
I did ave, first comment, and he gets the stale pork pie right in the eye, bless ya
The funny thing is Rico .. if you look in the blog stats we have had nearly as many hits on that post because I put the link on as we had on this one..
the power of newsnow.. eh?
Good to hear about Diaby, maybe he will now get a muscle instead of always pulling one
And TV is going to be another Dennis, not for the way he plays, but the way he conducts himself – Dennis was a master at that, a real gentleman
When are newsnow going to put AR up ave, would you like me to email them and tell them to get a grip
A doctor in Dublin wanted to get off work and go fishing, so he approached his assistant.
‘Murphy, I am going hunting tomorrow and don’t want to close the clinic I
want you to take care of the clinic and take care of all me patients’.
‘Yes, sir!’ answers Murphy.
The doctor goes fishing and returns the following day and asks:
‘So,Murphy, how was your day?’
Murphy told him that he took care of three patients.
‘The first one had a headache so he did, so I gave him Paracetamol.’
‘Bravo Murphy lad, and the second one?’ asks the doctor.
‘The second one had indigestion and I gave him Gaviscon, so I did sir’
says Murphy.
‘Bravo, bravo! You’re good at this and what about the third one?’
Asks the doctor.
‘Sir, I was sitting here and suddenly the door flies open and a young gorgeous woman borsts in so she does. Like bolt outta the blue, she tears off her clothes, taking off everyting including her bra and her panties and lies down on the table, spreading her legs and shouts: ‘HELP ME for the love of St Patrick! For five years I have not seen any man!”
‘Tunderin’ lard Murphy, what did you do?’ asks the doctor.
‘I put drops in her eyes!’
Diaby didn’t want to lie on the beach as he has spent the last 3 years horizontal, that’s all..
Rico.. i’ll email you a link..
haha ave – you are on top form….
I DO love little Johnnie !!!!
The teacher asked the class to use the word ‘fascinate’ in a sentence.
…
Molly put up her hand and said, ‘My family went to rico’s farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.’
…
The teacher said, ‘That was good, but I wanted you to use the word fascinate, not fascinating’.
…
Sally raised her hand. She said,’My family went to see Hull City and I was fascinated.’
…
The teacher said, ‘Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate.’
…
Little Johnny raised his hand.
The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word ‘fascinate’, so she called on him for his offering.
…
Johnny said, ‘My aunt peaches has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big she can only fasten eight.’
…
The teacher sat down and cried
sorry her pet sheep
kelsey – there are ladies present
And there is me stood here, just putting my ‘hay fever’ eye drops in
kelsey, I know another school one based on the word Contagious, but it takes too long to write
Oh,
sorry i thought it a fast way to get on NEWSNOW
“Arsenal fans are a joke.”
and i know one about german school kids learning how to put the word “probably” into an english sentence, but it is rather rude.
Not all kelsey, not all
Not as rude as Contagious, I bet
I was joking about our fans being a joke.It backfired on me.
Off to feed the hounds.
I realised kelsey – I was joking too
The only Johnny one I can remember is about a firework and a fox.. best not go there..
Got your email thanks, back hand return just in time for Wimbledon….
Speaking of wimbledon.. where is rasp and his red and white tennis ball?
Probably watching the cricket ave, looks like Pakistan will win – it should have been us
I am so sad for Nadal, I really wanted him to be fit for next week, he is a lovely man, but I guess it really opens the door for Murray now
See Melo has started talking ave, flattered about the link to the EPL, I hope talks are under away and we get him – also its good to hear that Gibbs is being looked after
Melo will probably play a blinder tonight and all the clubs will want him now they know we do.. Hopefully the deal is further down the line than has been let on..
I hope you are right, I like the sound of him – I hope he is rubbish tonight
Well Done Pakistan – That’s for you Bob Woolmer, RIP
Anyone for Pimms……
Hi peaches – Pimms is for next week
i am off for dinner, lentil and mushroom lasagne, home baked of course…. oh, and a nice garlic loaf
I’m now sending msg from someone elses Blackberry – get me and I’ve had 2 glasses of Pimms and I’m making delicious dinner. Who’s coming so I know how many to lay the table forM
Peaches…That was quite clever.. apart from you need to let yourself out of moderation..
peaches – you cooking meat ??
with nadal out will murray move up to number two seed as he was number three seed/if he stays at three seed he would be scheduled to play federer the number one seed in the semi final. It will be interesting.
sorry rico – I’m afraid I am, not very exciting but I’m a bit sloshed now so its better that its easy.
We’ve had to have banana bread with the Pimms cos my friends daughter – aged 13 – insisted we make one together…….how bizarre
ah peaches, i think you maybe a little sloshed – good on you, its the weekend…
I am off for the night all, you all stay safe and catch you tomorrow
I did ask this morning if I needed to be got out of moderation when I sent a msg from my daughters blackberry and no-one answered me…….ave, did you let me out this morning?
Nite Rico..
Peaches Wasn’t it Frinds daughter that got locked in his cellar?
Or are you not talking to me..
Peaches.. answer to your 7.24.. not me…
I thought I’d better ‘road test’ the Pimms – you never know who’ll drop in for a drinkie
ave
Melo having a much quieter game this evening against Italy. He looks like another Gilberto, just mopping up and keeping it simple.
Rasp
I saw the Italy game; you say Melo was quieter. Do you mean he was livelier in his previous game? I found it hard to follow him; I’m not familiar enough with his play to know exactly what his role is. Talking of which what position did you think he was supposed to be playing? With Bert as DM and Lucio another defensive midfielder in there I wasn’t sure what Melo’s role was but whatever it was, I am sure from the point of view of the Brazilians, it worked.
I agree London, I didn’t think he was involved in the game that much. It didn’t help that the commentators only seemed to name the better known players when in possession. I guess I compared him to Gilberto because he wasn’t spectacular yet the overall team performance was clinical. I did think he was a more commanding presence in the last game.
Hi guys
So was Melo not what we want then rasp……
Just read an exchange I had with ave earlier this evening – I must have been quite sploshed cos I don’t remember any of it ……..
As I’m blogging all alone I’m going to bed, nite nite all, catch up tmoro
Just having a look about Peaches.. all is a bit quiet..
I’m glad I am that memorable..
Hehe I have just noticed a sneaky piece of editing,,
“E’s” are good “E’s” are good..
hahahaha….peaches, a couple of chardonnays was it?
i like the sound of this…
Diaby looking to strengthen
——————————-
Arsenal’s Abou Diaby has acquired the help of a French trainer as he looks to get stronger in the close season.
The 23-year-old has got together with Renaud Longuevre as he bids to enter the 2009/10 season in peak condition.
Longuevre has worked with some of the world’s finest athletes and Diaby will now spend four weeks with the track and field trainer.
“When I feel that a sportsman is ready to give it all in order to reach a stage, it suits me,” said Longuevre.
“He is motivated and wants to reach the next stage on the physical level.”
The midfielder has suffered several niggling injuries since joining the club in 2006. Last season he regularly found himself on the sidelines and Longuevre has revealed that the demands of the Barclays Premier League were a factor in Diaby’s decision.
“The English league is very demanding; as a consequence his objective is to improve physically in order to be stronger and more resistant,” Longuevre added.
“He wants to be stronger in challenges. That is why he needs more muscle power.”
Diaby scored in Arsenal’s last match of the season, a 4-1 win over Stoke City
Morning,
So the only rumour is that Arshavin wants to end his career at Zenith.Another misquote most probably.
The tax issue is become a major issue to footballers and though La liga doesn’t quite compare to the PL, the tax incentives are immense, and we all know loyalty today means zilch.
I reckon Tevez and Ade (if he is going) will finish up in Spain or in Italy.
mornin….i hope the Melo news gathers momentum to the point it becomes true!
Morning Roadsters,
Strawberries and cream are upon us for the next two weeks, and me thinks the transfers will begin to hot up..
Let’s take 25M for Ade from the Russian camp, get Melo and a goal scorer
rico – yep i concur, get on the champagne and start barracking for your Murray bloke!
Evo – I hope so too, he has supposedly said he is flattered by the link, so lets hope there is a bit more to this rumour
Evening all
Great post Avenell. My favourite type of strip is the all red with the white arms. I have a few replicas, my favourite is my long sleeved 1978 umbro one. Unfortunately its a bit tight a fit these days but I can always trim down
I loved the 1998 strip with JVC, & strangely enough I quite enjoy this one too
http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/10_04/NistelrooyDM0111_468x949.jpg
The worst one was the O2 Red & white Invincibles & that technicoloured one looks like the night befores dozen cans & pizza liquid laughed out.
I see the British & Irish Lions are going to add to their squad to try and overturn their loss the South Africa. They are adding France
evo, Murray is Scottish not English
Hi guys
Gnarley – love that photo, i hated the horse and it was awesome when that penalty hit the cross-bar!
cant say i like any of the o2 strips, the JVC one was gold thou!
You are in fine form George
My cheering will be reserved for Laura Dobson
Fran, how goes it.
Morning Roadsters..
Hi Franchise welcome to Avenell Road. Long time no see. Jonjon and peaches will be pleased to see you..
Thanks gnarley.. yeah that one that looks like it’s been puked over is my favourite.. lol
And of course Anne Keothavong
ave, yes its a bit too busy for me, but one we will never forget
im good gg9. rico NikB is going to lead the line next season
Morning ave, and Franchise
thanks avenell i thought i come say hi and chat with u guys i miss peaches
I probably like it more because it got slated by the press and the commentators couldn’t see the numbers so they had to put a patch on the back..
I liked the green umbro one too, that was a marmite one..
I have missed you Fran, would that be the pickett line
GG – yeah i knew he was Scottish, but they claim him has half english these days, so might as well get on the bandwagon hey?
what is sleated ave
Peaches has got a big garden project on this week I understand. I don’t know if she will be about much..
You wait until The Ashes you two
ive missed u too rico
the lack of football is driving me crazy. i would rather watch us getting thrashed every week than not watching us at all
I was editing that Rico you beat me to it.. I haven’t opened my eyes properly yet..
Your causing trouble this morning I see..
Me ave, never
I don’t know if I can agree on that Fran
But I miss the footie, but it won’t be long now until the pre-season friendlies and CL qualifiers, get Wimbledon over and we begin again
Speaking of a lack of football.. Why are all the players playing in this mickey mouse confederations cup thing.. They never get any break now.. then they miss pre season and it becomes a vicious circle.
World Cup, Euro’s, Confederations cup, ACN.. Who pays there wages.?
hows that hangover peaches?
Stop moaning ave
i see avenell. i’ll be checking u guys out more frequently. ive added u in my favourites
Cheers Franchise..
It’s a bit dead at the moment, but it’s okay if you pick the right time to come on..
avenell, its night time now
haha Gnarley.. is it cold as well where you are in the winter?
and hows that building project going, I forgot to ask?
peaches is stuck in the greenhouse or is still hungover from last night
Franchise nice to see you again.
id say hungover is my bet.
just having a couple of ales here myself!
11.50 over here 36 degrees 45 humidity and too hot to trot.A day behind closed doors with the air con at full blast.
Kelsey.. I bet your old electric meter is spinning up like a CD player..
avenell
building project?
I see spurs are off loading Bentley ha ha ha, but pavchenko as well is rather strange.
They have this full proof system where they change managers annually buy 6 and ship out 6 and still win nothing.
full proof or fool proof.
Morning aaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh
Have to go shopping for plants soon – hope you’re all good.
FRANCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISE – my footie mate, how are you – I miss our saturdays/sundays together
It was a Pimms induced slosh-up – great fun….brandy soaked fruit and stuff……
wish we had 45% humidity in Sydney, its always bloody 80% at least!
good point ave,
electricity is more expensive here than in uk.
We are on 4 floors with three seperate units.
Gnarley .. sorry I thought you was building a house or something overlooking a super looking beach..
sorry if I got you mixed up with someone else..
Spurs couldn’t beat time with a drum.
MORNING PEACHES!!!!!
pacy defenders like gallas and toure like to step back rather than commit into a challenge. they rely on recovery pace. slower defenders (not neccessarily only slower def) stick to the players they mark like glue not allowing them to gather momentum. and they try to attack (as in charge in) early. i think vermalaen is that type of player. his game would complement gallas, toure or djourou
Evo was right about peaches then. She said it was scrabble not a pimms induced game.
good memory Ave, we were comparing beaches that time. We’ve put it on hold to do another project. We bought another house & plan to “Grand Design” it. Well thats the plan anyway
correction humidity is 70% at the moment, I was looking at last night.
lol i was gonna post that on another channel
hi peaches. emirates cup is just around the corner or not
ive got a season ticket sharing scheme agreed with some mungla on LG
the remaining games i wish to attend i would rely on u and tkt exchange.
how are u doing?
DDM by any chance franchise.
Arsenal & Man U put on red alert by agent’s comments
10:53 AM 22 June, 2009
Arsenal and Manchester United may renew their interest in Lyon’s Karim Benzema, after his agent said his client would ‘think about’ a move away if an offer comes in.
Benzema’s agent, Karim Djaziri, said: “Karim is on holiday at the moment and he is not thinking of moving.
“He wants to stay in France for another year so that he can prepare for the World Cup and I think that Sir Alex [Ferguson] knows this.
“Perhaps he wants to make an offer to Lyon. If that happens, then Karim will think about it, but as things stand, Karim wants to stay with Lyon for another year.”
Arsenal have been following Benzema’s progress for a long time, but may be put off bidding by the astronomical asking price.
yeah kelsey
Morning all
Excluding the signing of TV, the story that has lifted my spirits most recently is the one above about Diaby. The release of this story is no accident; someone in the Diaby camp has worked out that all is not well with the supporters and has made a concious attempt to try and change the image we have of him. Furthermore, and probably more importantly, it seems that he has realised that he needs to add more to his game if he really wants to forge a place for himself in our midfield. It seems logical, as we enter the new season, to wish the players we have well, I certainly do and that includes Diaby but I fear that if he doesn’t up his game this season it could end up being his with us.
You made me jump there Franchise, I thought I had accidently posted on another channel. How are you fella? Peaches tells us you are the man to go to the games with…..good sense of humour.
bit quiet in the speculation/transfer news today hey, nothing really new unfortunately…
did she london?
im a nutter at games
Morning London..
I think the transfers will start moving more in July when the players are back off there hols..
Morning all.
I’m a bit late on the football shirt front but my favourite shirt is the home kit from 1994-1996 cos it was my first one.
I put Platt 7 on the back though, should have went for Bergkamp 10
melo is a good rumour tho evo
Morning Irish..
When I went to watch Arsenal bring the cup back at the town hall in 98′ Platty was the only player who stopped and signed autographs in his car(Jag)..
All the others just bombed straight past the fans..
Unfortuanatly he had knee problems when he played for us, but a good player like a Flamini with an end product.
Morning Avenell,
Platt was a top player. I was more delighted that he signed than Bergkamp but that has changed with time haha.
I liked the last year at Highbury kit too, not many did but I like it.
Morning London, Irish & peaches
David Platt will always be rememebered for ‘that header’ to win the game against Manure 3-2 – what a star man
yep its one that im happy to continue on until he actually signs!
oh and my best arsenal jersey that i have had the privilege to purchase has to be the 06-08 home kit with fly eirates. i have only had 5 gunner jerseys in my 15 years stint as a fan
i refused to buy one last season cos i was not too impressed with the club
This is the best one IMO. I like the round neck. I think collars look daggy, i.e the new England strip.
http://goonersworld.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/charlie.jpg
I have one of the final season at Highbury shirts, I hate the colour, and it’s still in it’s box – I wonder what it would fetch now on ebay
Does it have a name & number rico?
I have 10 Arsenal shirts from my 15 year stint, 7 home and 3 away.
I wanted to get “Highbury 93″ on the back of the shirt but no-where in Ireland did gold lettering!!
This is just a personal thought, but I feel that a club like Arsenal, steeped in the old etonian tradition, though at the same time accepting that things move on,the name the emirates doesn’t sit well with me, and our deal for naming the stadium and shirt sponsorship may have been a bit hurried as we are tied to 8 and 10 years respectively for a sponsorship deal which is far less than our competitors in the PL.Furthermore if you consider our global market is expanding yearly by more TV coverage worldwide, and regardless of what we win, we are nearly always one of the top two teams that the neutrals like to watch.
Setanta will be interesting to watch, whoever takes over with our tie up with them on Arsenal TV, as the amount of live games last season, shown by Sky of Arsenal was the lowest for 10 years.
hiya guys…how are we all??
hello friendcheese
youve had me in stitches in recent weeks..
my favorite kit was the away strip we had in 91-93, it wasnt the prettiest but i wore mine for football practice at school and i loved it…ive still got it too….
i thought platt was a top player, i always remember his goal for england against belgium in the 1990 world cup, it was a peach, i wanted us to sign him on the back of that goal alone but i was about 11 or something at the time..
good player…shame about the injuries..
ive got 11 arsenal shirts in total…5 away 5 home and 1 GK..
two of my home kits were my grandads including his first shirt he got in 1938…
Morning Roadsters and Roosters….
Blimey – its like Picadilly Circus on here this morning. I’ve been toiling in the garden while you lot have been having fun
Hi Franchise, are you so tired of abuse you’ve come on for some cyber cudddles? – my son’s still got ringing in his ears after sittting next to you
George, It has it’s official allocation number – but no shirt number
I bet you haven’t got the Malaga FC kit
Don Revie changed Leeds completely JJ, as he wanted Leeds to be like Real Madrid, hence the all white,in case you didn’t know.
i am a mine of useless information
I’m not having fun Rasputin
I’m waiting patiently for a wildish cat we have to go into a trap we’ve set for her so we can take her to the vet. No luck so far! Darn cat is too clever.
All the seventies home kits had the white sleeves, and after a few washes the white turned pink.
The busiest day for weeks and mummy goes missing. yellow card i say.
Thankfully kelsey, no I don’t
franchise,
for information only.
As london correctly stated the other sites on here are known as channels.
I am the oldest,so I can ay what I like, but Raddy is a tad younger but looks much older.
rico, irish and peaches, the 3 wise ladies can give as good as they get.
hi jonjon and rasp. Irish u whoring here too
JJ i let those ‘lefties’ get to me when i first went on there. i had to reinvent myself and frustrate the hell out of them
they dont seem to have an answer for me.
Rasputin i come with a health warning
when im i going to see u in flesh ive met a few members of ur fam i believe
Morning JJ and Rasp, sorry, didnt see you both
Irish, are you sure you want to nurture these cats – my horrible specimen has presented me with another dead bird this morning
On the Diaby ‘getting fit issue’ – its a shame they can’t find some exercises to improve his speed of thought ….. but he must be applauded for the effort. Any Murray improved his tennis no end by beefing up…
Franchise you are the undisputed blog whore, I dare not take your title
irish ooh aaah
I’m hoping to come to the Emirates cup Franchise, but I’m worried I’m going to get a crick in my neck if I meet you
Rasputin, they breed like rabbits and we have 10 at the moment so I really do want them neutered. There is one over at the vet at the moment, she was easy to catch.
not if u wear platforms
kelsey @ 12:06
I think you’re mistaken – we don’t talk about any other sites do we?
be careful or mummy will smack your legs
Morning jj..
Franchise.. Jonjon started the site with me after we had a little missunderstanding elsewhere.
What we try to do is not talk about the other channels as some of our posters meet and are friends with the other site(s) posters and some choose to post on other sites, which is fine.
Not that it would because there is no need, it would be unfair on everyone if it all turns into a channel “war”
So we just agreed we would not talk about them, not even nicely..
Irish – are you encouraging these cats by feeding them? My experience of feral cats is that however much you pamper them, their ‘killer instincts’ never go away.
Ah, I have been busy…..
Ok rasp,
already got a telling off from mummy.
only trying to be helpful.I shall cry now.
kelsey
I’m off back out to continue my strimming – ave, any ideas why my petrol strimmer won’t start – I’m having to use the electric and its like cutting the lawn with a pair of nail scissors…..
petrol Rasp – have you run out of it ??
Rasputin – That’s how it all started.
We had two pet cats of our own a few years back but there was a feral one hanging around and like eejets we felt sorry for her.
She started breeding and it started a chain reaction. We have either kept of re-homed all the kittens.
So now we have the oldest one that started it all, she is neutered and has tamed a lot.
Her eldest daughter we kept is a pet and she is neutered.
Her next batch we kept two both female who had offspring because we couldn’t catch them but we found homes for the kittens of one but the others died cos they were inbread.
Both of them are no neutered. However, the ones who’s kittens died, actually kidnapped another kitten who we thought was male but was in fact female and she is now the one we are trying to catch.
My sister found another kitten abandoned about 2 years ago and is currently at the vet – she is the mother of the 3 kittens.
And we have a male cat who won’t feck off, he isn’t ours but won’t go away even if we don’t feed him.
Yes, I see cats in my sleep
i like espn
Franchise –
rico
Why is it every woman thinks I’m useless – I do have some talents.. honest …
I don’t Rasp, honestly
Got to pop off for a while, later’s all
I don’t think the new sheik investor in the prem is putting his money into Arsenal – he’d have to buy out Usamov and Kroenke to get 60% – its interesting that nobody seems to know…… usually secrets aren’t that well kept in the football world?
Rasp..
First of all take the plug out and check for a spark.. Put the lead back on the plug and earth the plug out on the metal on the engine (use insulated pliers)..
Pull the cord see if it sparks.
What one of my strimmers needs is priming to get it going, this is because something in the carb doesn’t sython the fuel up from the tank to start it..
Take of the air filter and pour some fuel into the carb(small amount), it should start then die.. repeat this a few times it may keep going once the fuel gets moving..
Oh and make sure you don’t have the kill switch turned off..
Oh and if it is a 2 stroke which most are, if they are not used for a while the petrol evaporates from the fuel mix leaving just the oil to solidify in the bottom of the carb.. If all else fails clean the carb..
Thanks ave – I’ll give it a go …..
hiya crew…
is anyone about??

Remove and put it back in anyway..
adding to what ave said, do the same again by unplugging at wall, leave for a minute but take the viewing card out at the same time and clean it with a clean cloth.Only re insert the card just before you switch back on…
50 euros please, cash
Don’t listen to the zimmerframes peaches – find yourself a 14 year old – they’ll know what to do
ok, here is what to do peaches…

remove card and clean off static, leave for five minutes and then switch it all back on.
when sky goes green at the button, select any channel. then it will say insert card….
Bob will be your uncle
Honestly, DONT insert card before turning on, I am really a Sky engineer
kelsey – sorry, I didnt see yours, sky alsways have told us not to insert bdfore the channel is selected,as it prevents further static – but either way it probably will be ok
Microwave the box and claim off your house insurance..
Hey you’re all stars
Thankyou thankyou thankyou
Its working now……..and my daughter has nicked it aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh
Didn’t do anything with the card cos I got a new one last week.

catch up later……
Where did everyone go……..
The Melo rumour is gathering pace. Gabriele Marcotti was on Talksport talking about transfers that he reckoned would happen.
He said that Arsenal and Fiorentina have reached an agreement over the transfer of Felipe Melo. Arsenal have to wait for Brazil to finish the Confederatios Cup before they can speak to Melo. He believes that Melo’s agent has spoke to Arsenal and is happy with their proposal.
He went on to say that once Melo starts to speak with Arsenal, Fiorentina will then speak to Senderos to take him to Florence. He understands that Senderos has enjoyed his time in Italy, and would jump at the chance of a move.
If this happens we have got it all; the defence will be solid, the midfield is bulging and the attack is settled and varied enough to beat anyone. Damn I’m getting excited.
Wow London that does sound like it might happen. While I was at one of the nursuries this afternoon one of the guys said that Senderos was included in the deal.
So, it is obviously going to be Arsenal v Real Madrid in the CL final held in the Bernabeu next year where we break their hearts in their own back yard……do you think I am getting a bit ahead of myself?
Ok, you are proabably right, there is no way Real Madrid are going to improve that much…Arsenal v Barça is much more likely.
The one thing that majority were agreed on at the beginning of last season was that we needed a CB and a DM the fact that we didn’t sign, one of each, cost us. If we sign Melo both of those concerns would have been answered. Book your flight to Madrid now.
Night, night
How do you say that in Brazilian?
London
Hope all your dreams come true……. love the bit about Real Madrid not improving that much….
I’m off to bed, nite nite, sweet dreams
Boa-noite – its portuguese
any news lads and ladies?
Maybe we should get Jose Antonia Reyes back for out left winger that we need? – NOT! LOL
Morning roadworks. Predicted text is hilarious on a blackbird and I need my glasses ……
Morning Evo and All
Its a shame that Reyes couldn’t take to the life in the UK, a great player, or rather could have been – but sadly he left, and has done very little since, except get the two goals for RM to win the league a couple of seasons ago..
I dont think he was liked much, he was victim of the Henry scowl many many times…..
Reports are that RvP has signed an extesion to his deal, well blow me old timbers, what a shocker
Just for you Evo
One of Britain’s few respected football journalists, Gabriele Marcotti, has claimed that Fiorentia’s Felipe Melo is on his way to Arsenal. Speaking to sports radio station talkSPORT last night, Marcotti tipped Brazil midfielder Melo to join the Gunners at the conclusion of the Confederations Cup.
Melo joined La Viola a year ago in a €13m deal from Spanish outfit Almeria and has thoroughly impressed all in his first season in Italy, even forcing himself into Brazil’s starting side. The 25-year-old had previously been touted to join Inter Milan, but has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks. Melo reiterated his desire to stay at Fiorentina on Sunday, stating:
“It’s clear that interest from big clubs makes me happy because it shows I have worked well, but I would like to once again confirm that I am very well in Florence and have a great relationship with my teammates, the club and the fans.”
It seems though, that a move to Arsenal was too good to turn down for Melo. According to the ever-reliable Marcotti, the deal will not be finalised until the conclusion of Brazil’s Confederations Cup campaign. Melo’s agent, though, has been in heavy communication with Arsenal and is happy with the contract Arsenal have put on the table.
Marcotti then continued, stating that Fiorentina are also keen to open negotiations for Arsenal-owned defender Philippe Senderos. He claimed that Senderos has enjoyed his time in Serie A and would jump a the chance of joining Fiorentina. Marcotti did however make it clear that the deals for Senderos and Melo are completely seperate, although one would think that a smooth deal for Melo would do no harm to Senderos’ chances of joining Fiorentina.
Well, hopefully this will save me 12.99 a month
Disney-owned sports TV network ESPN, who have been circling the Premier League throughout the Setanta crisis, dived in last night to buy up all the available live match action for the next four years.
The American channel picked up the Premier League packages for Saturday teatime and Monday nights for next season that were resold by the PL after doomed Setanta failed to meet last Friday’s deadline rights.
ESPN also bought the one set of 23 Saturday games that Setanta had forfeited for the three years starting from 2010-11.
Morning all
I am confused. If ESPN have got one set of 23 games for the 2010-11 does that mean that Sentanta will carry on as usual for this coming season?
Moning London, here is the full story for you
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/353832816?-19387
Morning Evo,Rico and London.
I wouldn’t read to much into the reported fee that Liverpool are paying for johnson.Approx. half of that is still owed to them from Pompey for the sale of Crouch, and the balance of about 8 million will be staggered.
What is more interesting is that gillette and Hicks are trying to sell off some of their transatlantic investments, before D day on July 7th. (wish i am sure that rico hopes will fall flat on it’s face
As to us it looks like milo is on his way and some sort of deal with Senderos is part of the package and that’s it IMO unless we get a huge bid for Adebayor.
Evening all
evo, Reyes was too easily knocked off the ball IMO, then sat on the turf moaning, but I get your tongue in cheek
Hi kelsey – The two deals are said to be seperate according to a reporter in Italy, but it does sound promising
Hi george
Two things influenced Reyes’s departure.Frst and foremost he bacame homesick and secondly he and Henry didn’t see eye yo eye.We payed a lot of money for him, which was partly offset by selling him on.I always remember his two goals against Chelsea and forever smiling, who knows what would have happened but now I here he is being released by Atletico Madrid. Shame.
volume of posts yesterday shows the highest rating for AR at 121 3 days ago it was 146. How does it work ?
It is sad about Reyes, but his lack of education cost him. Coming form a family who didn’t belong to mainstream life in Spain meant that he never had the scholastic opportunities, particularly as he had such talent in his feet.
He had no English at all when he left, had to use Swiss Phil and Lauren as translators etc etc.
He never reached his potential. That early game for Sevilla v Real made him look a future superstar. How sad for him…. though I guess he has a very enviable bank balance !!
kelsey where is that list you mention.
Howdy rico
how rude of me
My favourite shirt is the one CG is wearing in GG’s avatar
Thanks for the link Rico.
Do you know how to go about canceling a Setanta subscription?
morning/evening all,
yep reyes was good and bad all rolled into one hey?! im also wondering about Setanta, more for the FA cup and other games. In Australia, Fox Sports have the rights for the EPL games, so no probs for us there. Setanta for us is only 1 channel at an extra $14.95 per month on top of our other subscriptions which can be anywhere from around $50 to $120 per months on how far you want to go…
Hey London, bloody hell that Setanta repeats a lot of adds about stuff that is coming up next. It give me the shits
can I say that on here?
How much does a full Sky package cost? The Canal+ sport and movie subscription costs £70p.m. here
evo, G”day mate. I agree with u on Setanta, its not good, but usefull for some things like watching the Gers win
I wish they had Arsenal T V
BR
speaking of the years rolling on, just looking @ my avatar, I used to have a haircut like Charlies, it was all the rage back then. Now a days blokes have haircuts which make’m look like they have been through a wind tunnel
……backwards
yeah i complained to them about no Arsenal TV, but that fell on deaf ears!
London – I think you can email them to cancel, right now they must be expecting many, mine will be done today – I wonder what will happen to AFC TV Channel ??
Raddy, I pay £49.25 per month, that is everything except films, on top of that is the £12.99 to Setanta
£62.24 – in total, I think I need to review my subscription…
Cheap Rico.
GG. I am deeply envious of the ‘windy’ look !
man this lamb stew i whipped up yesterday is a ripper! Ran out of red wine to wash it down with, so i had to have another beer!
I am busy knocking up a lasagne Evo. Better load up on Red wine
yep just on the auction sites now bidding for a few quaffing items!
Morning roadsters..
Thanks Evo I received..
As for setanta .. I am 6 months into a 18 month contract.. anyone know if i can cancel it as they have not kept there side of the deal..
at least that scottish tosser is out of work, and Steve Mcmanamanamanmanamnaman..
Can I just point out that Peaches was on just before 7o clock this morning and nobody took her out of moderation….
Mind you she sounded pissed again..
she’s loving the booze at the minute, but hey why not…im currently bidding on cases of wine, not just bottles, cases!
Morning ave – i think you will be able to as they are unlikely to honour your contract
Hi rico.. do you think this will kill arsenal TV then?
I will see what happens to that before I cancel..
Did you know Setanta got started when a couple of Irishmen started charging customers to enter a pub in London to watch the footie.. then they nearly took on Sky?.. it’s a shame really it’s all gone Alex Song..
gnarleygeorge9,
the list is down the right hand coloumn under Newsnow.
The best TV deals are definately outside UK. I have sky + sports which is a con as the HD cost an extra 10.00 per month.Total cost 48.50 + Setanta at 130 a year (special deal they did at the start of the season.)
SHOWTIME offer a full package of every single Arsenal game and highlights of all the others with commentary in English. initial set up 400 eiros then 100 euros per year annual subscription. This package can be obtained for any PL team, and is the way forward, and i wouldn’t be surprised if Sky go down the same rote eventually.
Showtime is only available in the middle east and some european countries around the med.
Evo,
do you live in Tasmania, or have i got that wrong.
Kelesy – that’s Gnarley mate, im in Sydney!
BBBRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr
did i see the word Tasmania mentioned. Its going to be a cold one tonight.
I am not sure ave – and i think i will do the same as you and wait and see what happens to the ATV -
Off for a while, catch you all a bit later – enjoy the sunshine….
Why did peaches end up in moderation this morning ave ?
Sorry I popped out..
Rico.. Peaches is a flash arse and uses a blackberry..
Hi Roadsters,
Not going to be around much today – I have a post, but its not important so let me know if there are more worthy contributors ready to go
Flashy indeed
Interesting article
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/353942402?-19387
Hi Rasp.. I have one for later on tonight or early morning.. It could wait as there is nothing that will go out of date..
but I would like it to go on..
Hi Rasp – You go for it
No ave – after you…. these posts are like London buses – I hate you Butler ……
Tasci sounds ok, but another one for the rumor file at best!
Rasp.. I will put my name in the widget then.
or
Strimmer??
So Arsene has backed up the fact that we have been arguing about for a year now…
He said…”I am fed-up with people who think I have £100m in the bank yet don’t want to spend it. How can people think that? “The pride of the club is in having moved to a new stadium while maintaining the club at the top level.”
See we never did have £93 million to spend on players..
Sorry Rasp i know you don’t like me talking about money..
Strimmer is the blog killer..
I have no problem with others talking about money ave – its just not my sphere so I can’t really contribute.
Strimmer
but a friend is getting an expert to look at it for me ta …..
Is it a good strimmer? I have learned in the garden use the old saying “buy cheap, buy twice”… and the better the quality the better it is at doing the job..
I have a crap hedge trimmer that takes forever to cut an hedge.. WD40 in one hand cutter in the other.. (it was Nita’s)
That ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ reminds me of a Woody Allen line
“The worst sin in my family was buying retail….”
afternoon crew…
im about for a bit this afternoon, finally got some free time on my hands…
i dont disagree with wenger about keeping the squad together and only adding to it, with the ACN coming up we will need all the players we can….as long as the players he wants to add are going to be 1st teamers and he doesnt stick with the likes of eboue and diaby for certain positions when we have better options in the team…..
as for reyes..he was a fantastic little player and its a shame how his career has nose dived…i wouldnt say we ruined him…but i think he wasnt ready for a move to a big club at that age…he emotionally wasnt ready and it got to him…i personally would take the risk again for the 6mil price and see if we can make him the player we thought he would be…
haha never got into Woody Allen films.. or any films for that matter..
I wished I lived in an apartment sometimes.. It’s kin hot here today too.. How is wonderful wonderful Coprenhagen for weather now?
i love some of the old retro shirts – mainly the JVC ones in red and also the gold ones from the 90s!
hi evo…my favorite shirt is the JVC black and gold one from the early 90′s…love it…
It’s a 50 quid basement bargain I’m afraid ave and proof that your saying is correct…..
I’m not sure where all this Melo optimism is coming from. Aw has said he doesn’t want to lose any players so I can’t see us buying another midfielder – even though I rate Melo highly. I’m not sure who said it, but it appears that the RVP deal was in the bag a while ago and the club have just been waiting for the best ‘spin moment’ to announce the good news….
91-93 away jonjon?
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Arsenal/Arsenal-change-kits.html
Rasp.. one of my strimmers was £400′s worth… but it cost me £3,500 because it was all I could rescue out of a limited company that stitched me before it went down..
THIRD KIT: The Gunners are supposed to be releasing another third strip, but there’s nothing official yet. Rumours of a green and blue kit (ala 1982-83) didn’t go down at all well with fans earlier this year…
It’s here if you want to borrow it!!
Ouucchhh!!! ave – that’s painful. The government rescues banks when they recklessly lose our money, but do nothing for the ‘little man’ when someone goes bust on him….
Evo.. I think there is a law or a rule that a club has to keep a kit for 2 years.. so to get around this they bring out a new away kit every year then relegate the previous seasons away kit to a third kit..
Unless that has changed..
thats the one evo…never took it off..
hi rasp..i dont know about this melo bloke…id love a new signing but i dont want to fall into the trap of buying anyone for the sake of buying…id rather have veloso..
ave…you chatting strimmers again?????
Rasp, I have been lucky really.. only ever been done about £6,000 total in 20 years..
It hurts, but the skill is to keep moving forwards otherwise it costs you more in the long run worrying about it..
wish i had one of those jonjon, looks awesome! The green sucks the big one IMHO, i loved the full white with burgundy trim 3rd kit from 07-08, i have Cesc on that one!
Jonjon … I have a Honda 4 stroke one that is the nuts.. apart from the handlebars broke, so I welded them up with my Tig.. Er yeah..
Hi JonJon, yes its all gone quiet on Veloso. He’s obviously up for a move. AW has admitted in the past to forming a shopping list of players in order of preference. It seems likely that a strong midfielder would be his main focus, I wonder in what order he would place Alonso, Veloso, Melo, Cana etc etc?
i hope Wengers quotes about 1 or 2 more prove to be correct. i would like 3 more in and one out if we have to!
gonna hit the sack, catch you all later!
Nite Evo…..
hi rasp…
i think its only natural to assume, with the way wenger works and has done in the past…that his order of preference would be calculated by such variables as price and contract length etc…..
he may want alonso…but alonso may be out of reach because of the price…so he wouldnt even make it on the list if you know what i mean….wenger lives in the real world and not in such worlds of chelsea and citeh and madrid so he has to think logically and realistically…
wenger seems to only want players who he can take advantage of their situation at their current clubs….
i suppose the list of priority would depend on the situation….
eg…melo…if fiorentina want senderlump…then that deal could be high up the order…
we all know if wenger cant hit the right deal he’ll stick with what hes got but sometimes i wish he’d just let his hair down and pay what the other team wants and then sell some shite to make the money back…
do i need to mention the shite???
Hi Guys – Citeh have bought Stuart Taylor……??
hiya rico…
they continue to amaze everyone by buying world stars dont they…..one minute it was buffon…the next stuart taylor….
im still not convinced by citeh…they may do enough to challenge everton but im not certain they will challenge the top four….they have the money yes…but its getting the right players and i dont think hughes has what it takes….
you know whats getting my back up??? how some sections of the footballing world are saying liverpool are favorites for next season now manure have lost ron and tev….how???
without alonso torres and gerrard they are nothing and last season they were lucky…they’ll be in the top 4 again but they wont win it…
i’d of said chelsea were more likely to do it….saying that..if we get the right players we are also in a strong position…
Yo Ho JJ, good to see you
Next season is big for Citeh, as someone here said, how will they keep the players happy – I dont think they will. All they will attract is players who think they should be earning mega bucks, they will stay for the money but they won’t be happy…
Alonso is reported to be heading to Madrid, and I think Masceranus (spelling
) will also leave for regular football. I think he may very well follow Tevez, just a hunch.
I like you believe that two more ‘right players’ and we will have strenght and great depth for once, and it’s good to hear AW say that he is still looking to buy – more importantly this transfer season he is saying what he says rather differently to last year. He is making no promises….
I still think a player or two will go, regardless of what he hopes.
SETANTA HAS CEASED TRADING – ATV IS STILL BEING SHOWN
just a bit of info just been on to sky – espn have the footie this coming season and they have an agreement for the fixtures to be shown via sky – talks are still ongoing..
a new channel will be introduced to show this seasons footie games that setanta were going to show, and for a lot less money….. £5.00 a month is being suggested..
also, dont bother trying to cancel with setanta, just cancel the direct debit – thats the advice I have been given all
I guess I am all alone…..
Oh well, I have tried to help
I have since been advised by my bank that Setanta have said they will be cancelling all DD/SO’s – I may just check that bit….
Thanks Rico.. we have no Setanta GB, but like you say we still have Arsenal TV.. We also have Setanta Ireland, you would think they would send an email out.. they were quick enough to do it when they were advertising..
Hi Ave, they only went off air tonight, so maybe we will hear something later or tomorrow – I hope my bank are right about Setanta just cancelling all DD & SO’s – SI is soon to shut down to, and a new channel will arrive..
I just hope none of us lose any pennies…
Off now for my supper, little red chillies are being cooked on a pizza, not sure what else has gone on there, no doubt I will soon find out
Hopefully I will be fit to blog tommorrow
Stay safe all – nighty night
